Hey everyone,

I DM a group of 4e players, and we have been playing together for a while. This weekend we were going to have a couple back to back epic D&D sessions as it is a long weekend for us here in Ontario, Canada. So we got to talking and decided that we will throw in a GW game inbetween as a sort of break between games.

Ive had the GW box for a while now, but havent read the book/rules for it yet. I know it uses a 4e system though. Would I be able to read up on it tonight or tommorrow (the night before we start playing) and understand how to play fine, or does it take a little getting used to

On the flip side of that, my players only started playing RPGs with 4e, would they have an easy time understanding the rules (they are pretty cometant with the 4e rules).

Basically I just want to know if I can get a game of GW going with relative ease considering it is in 2 days and I only have a little bit of time to learn it - or should I just wait for another day so I can have as much time as needed to learn and teach the game. Thanks!

Knowing the 4e rules will be a boon and make playing GW much easier since you can fall back on 4e rules for those that are missing in the GW book (charge, for example).

The main things you'll have to get used to are the Cards, the rest is pretty much 4e with minor changes here and there that are clearly stated in the books such as no healing surges, you have a second wind you can activate as a minor to restore 1/2 your HP. You get everything back during short rests as opposed to waiting for an extended rest, etc. There is one Daily power that I remember from the game and that is in Famine In Far-Go, if you don't have it, you don't have to worry about it.

You should be fine if you do a read through. The fun is in creating the characters ;)

Heck my players picked up on it pretty fast and none of them have played 4e before.  The system is fun and fast, easy to pick up and play.

It's easy to learn, a beer and pretzels game.

Half of the players in my Gamma World group have never played any version of DnD before, but they all seem to be picking up on it pretty quickly. It does help to have a few players who are familiar with the rules to explain how things work though.

I am pretty experience running 4E and I ran Gamma World with very little prep.  The first time I ran the game I just used the adventure in the Gamma World boxed set at the back of the book.  To be honest I didn't even read the encounters until I was running the game.  Its so similar to 4E that I wasn't slowed down at all.

The thing ExcalibursZone mentioned about the cards, it's true you should get used to them.  I would say, gloss over everything in the book, but spend more time looking at the cards and how they work.  Also, take a look at the origins, they're fun!
