If you want a great documentary about how the earth would adapt if all 6B humans vanished, check out channel.nationalgeographic.com/episode/a...

Amazing how quickly the buildings would crumble and plant life take over again.

(that is, assuming there wasn't a sun-blocking event)

Enjoy!

I think there are now 2 seasons of the series Life After People.  They show through computer animation what would happen to our cities 1 year, 10 years, 100 year, 1,000 years, and so on if all humans suddenly disappeared from the earth.  It's an amazing series.  What's amazing is that nothing man-made stands forever.  Even our metal skyscrapers would eventually rust, buckle & collapse & then be buried under the earth.

I imagine that 150 years after the Apocalypse, most wooden buildings would have collapsed, esp. their roofs.  Glass windows would all be shattered by wind & storms.  Concrete & metal structures would still be there but many bridges would've collapsed & most of our buildings would be covered in vegetation of some sort.  Except maybe in the Southwest where it's very dry.  But sandstorms would eventually cover cities there.

Nature would recover it's territory very quickly w/o people around to push nature back.

Interesting stuff. I can't remember if it was that series that speculated about it, but I think it was that show that depicted feral cats living in sky scrapers and a whole bizarre ecosystem of flying/gliding animals just florishing around high rises. It was pretty wicked.

The things that seemed to last the longest were like mount rushmore, big things carved into stone.
