Hello, I am a new DM with gamma world. In Fact I am a new dm in general and have a question about player attacks. When a player attacks a creature with a power does that player still have to roll a D20 and add the attack to it? Also with the attack using Ability+level =, does that mean the score to that ability or the mod for the ability? Meaning should they be rolling D20+abilitymod+lvl vs. what ever to land that attack instead of having a constant number for that attack? I am right now playing the beginning campaign that came with the core and playing with family to learn how to run it before taking to my normal d&d group. Any advice and help will be much appreciated.

Hi, good questions.

1. Yeah, when attacking with a power, you roll 1d20 + modifiers to see if you hit.

2. The "ability + level vs. defense" shorthand really means "1d20 + ability modifier + level" as you figured out. This doesn't change too much (only when they level up) so they can calculate that out beforehand.

Thank you very much for the quick reply and thank you, we were doing it wrong then. It just seemed very strange that they have the same number each time. Now that I know that, the next time we go to finish the campaign it might make it a little more challenging for them. Thanks again.
