Here's something I wrote up which addresses some of the concerns that have been floating around regarding disparity in origin power levels. The classifications of various origins are arbitrary and in some cases meant specifically to prevent certain combos. (Like undead mushrooms.)

Thoughts?

You asked for thoughts, here are mine.

I don't really worry about the effect of imbalance in the game as that is a natural attribute of this GW. Just look a the deck system, those with a few bucks can outclass their game-mates to a startling degree just on the deck building. Power-gamers will be power-gamers and the only way to beat them at that game is to play a different game. In this case, make it fast, fun and light. I proposed the system of origin selection based on game roles, mostly so that players that enjoy a type can find that type to play in this game as well. Overall, game enjoyment is the end goal of this game.

Personally, I like the house rule stuff. It's fun and helps DMs create balance for them.

I'm looking at this from a RIFTS-like perspective. The designers don't really care about balance, they want fun. So what if you have someone who can teleport people every time they hit them. It's fun for the player and it's fun for the DM to see how the player works with the power. I think it's even more fun when you watch your players start working together and setting up combos. My friend and I did this in a D&D 4e game, he made sure that enemies granted combat advantage with his spells and I made sure that I attacked those enemies with my thief. That was loads of fun.

Still, charts like this bring even more options and help DMs create or get ideas for their own campaigns. My Reality Zero campaign uses some custom charts and Oraibi's chart here is simply awesome.

Though, I'm going to stick with d6/d20 for both origins. When Legion of Gold comes out, I'll worry about custom tables then. Unless WotC presents a good table themselves...

Well, the issue is that even the most egregious deck pales in comparison to the Magnetic and Temporal at-wills.

But I agree with the gist of your post.
