| #1shatteredtowerNov 08, 2005 21:50:00 | Beyond the walls of Garic's City lie forests, hills, rivers, farms... and danger. Many people come to the city from far and wide, some remain outside, trying to eke a living from the soil. While others venture into the city, hoping to find fame and fortune. (If you are coming into the city, leaving the city or just wandering the area outside the city, this is the place to be. This thread takes place within a mile or so of the walls of the city. It also takes the place of using the "Elsewhere" thread when wandering the surrounding countryside.) [The (2) in the title refers to the fact that this is the first BtW thread since the new boards were opened. To refer to the previous thread, please contact your GMs.] |
| #2tensek_vicar_dupNov 08, 2005 23:45:47 | With Kiara bouding about him happily Tensek strolls up past the gates of the city. With a nod to the two guards sitting by the gate the ranger enters and heads off in search of information. [To Nobody's] |
| #3zombiegleemaxNov 18, 2005 4:38:21 | With a wince and a shudder, Driden look back to the semi circle and frowns. Exchanging glances, Kalthas nods and traces back a step. 'Yeah, I get what your getting at. I don’t think I can talk much sense into this guy. But if I stand around here any longer I might end up knocking it into him. Plus I think it’s about time I headed back to the farm.' Pausing Kal’thas frowns towards the man 'Sorry didn’t quiet catch your name. I’m Kal’thas, work’en off my debt to society, and you are?' |
| #4zombiegleemaxNov 18, 2005 10:29:25 | Huh? What's that? Driden says while sticking his index fingers into each ear. Ohhh! My name is Driden and I'm lost! Did they just get louder or is it just me?! The young man then scrunches his face and starts to back away from the semi circle. What about you!? |
| #5zombiegleemaxNov 18, 2005 15:52:27 | Kal’thas laughs loudly, ‘Who would know, they seemed to have all blurred into one.’ ‘What?.. ar Kal’thas, yeah. Na, im not lost. I came from the Yasgur's Farm to talk these guys from not nicking stuff from their farm…Didn’t get far.’ ‘Lost? You heading off to Garic's City, maybe you could catch a lift back with me.’ |
| #6zombiegleemaxNov 18, 2005 16:00:07 | Once the two manage to get some distance from the group, Driden pulls his fingers away from his ears. That would be great. I think I've been lost in these trees for the past two days...not really sure though. |
| #7zombiegleemaxNov 18, 2005 16:47:15 | ‘Yeah its all good. all we got to do is get back to the farm and talk to the lad that rode me down. Then were set.’ Kal’thas begins to move off in the direction he came from. 'God, I guess I have to tell the farmer I failed miserably. Still she’ll be all good. You had enough of the singing or do you want to stick around and finish anything off? ’ |
| #8zombiegleemaxNov 18, 2005 17:02:28 | With one last glance back to the semi-circle, Driden turns around and falls in behind Kalthas. Nahhh...let's just get going. I have lots to do once we reach Garic's...like eat some food and find a place to sleep. |
| #9zombiegleemaxNov 22, 2005 14:58:20 | The sun is nearing its zenith when it finds an unlikely pair in a copse outside Garic's City, still in sight of the city walls. Ran has brought his young kobold ward here, where they won't be interrupted or distracted, to initiate him in the difficult art of meditation. The sparse trees give some protection from the occasional stiff breeze and a small fire gives off enough warmth to be comfortable. The elf has told little Zeppo to sit down in a relaxed position and is guiding him through a simple series of breathing exercises. [draconic]"Breathe in - deeply - then hold for three heartbeats, then exhale slowly. Repeat, and again, and again. Find the rhythm..."[/draconic] The monk sits facing his pupil in the classical lotus position, hands on his knees, palms up. [draconic]"When you are ready, try to become aware of yourself. Leave the rest of the world outside and turn inward. Feel your heartbeat. Feel the blood flowing through you, energizing every part of your body. Follow its course. Concentrate on your entire self, on your body, on your spirit. Forget everything else. Nothing else matters."[/draconic] Minutes pass in silence, the occasional popping of the soft-glowing embers or rustling breeze the only indicators of time passing. Voice soft, Ran continues: [draconic]"Follow the course of your blood. Start from your heart, follow its passage. Let go of every part of your body that you pass through. Sink into the warmth. The pure energy becomes your only existence. Your heartbeat is the beginning and end of your being. And then you let go of that too. You are no longer defined. You are not your body. You are not your heartbeat. You just are. You are for a moment, and then another, and then another. A moment becomes an eternity, and eternity passes in a moment."[/draconic] |
| #10zombiegleemaxNov 28, 2005 23:29:08 | As Driden and Kal'Thas walk back towards the farm, conversing, the lilt of fervent song drifts after them. |
| #11zombiegleemaxNov 29, 2005 8:51:50 | A soft moan escapes Driden's lips as he turns around to face what he assumes to be the campers following close behind. |
| #12zombiegleemaxNov 29, 2005 8:56:19 | To Driden's relief, the campers have not moved from their campsite. Merely the sound of their singing follows the pair. It sounds like they are starting another song... |
| #13zombiegleemaxNov 29, 2005 9:05:52 | Driden shakes his head and blinks a few times before turning back around to catch up to Kalthas. I think I might have lost it...He says while scratching his chin. Must have been in the stew. Smiling, he looks down at his companion then back down the road. How much further is the farm anyhow? |
| #14zombiegleemaxDec 01, 2005 1:35:13 | Kal’thas snickers at Driders words and nods into the distance, ‘up this way and passed a big oak tree I think. Its not too far, well find it eventaully.' He answers in hopefully yet keeps his head down following his path back to the tree. |
| #15zombiegleemaxDec 01, 2005 8:58:46 | Soon enough, the pair stroll into the farmyard. The short distance traveled emphasizes just how close the cleric's camp is to the farm. Shan loiters near the Silver Sword's wagon, eyeing the position of the sun and fidgeting with a bit of harness. |
| #16zombiegleemaxDec 01, 2005 16:14:18 | Once the duo reached the farm and introductions were made, Kal gave a quick summary of the events at the camp with Driden interjecting a few things about the good soup he ate and torture he had to endure. After the farewells, the young sorceror finds himself lying in the back of the wagon with his fingers locked behind his head. With the sun slowly sinking into the horizons and rhythmic clopping of the horses, Driden again falls into a little cat nap. [Elsewhere] |
| #17zombiegleemaxDec 03, 2005 1:47:15 | With a groan and huff Kal’thas reflects over the whole little incident. Not really one to care, he would have settled it with fist. But he couldn’t find it in him to hit the buga anyway. They’ll get what’s coming eventually. Still he wont forget their smell. With another groan Kal’thas slips to his side, and begins to note the scenery about the place. [Elsewhere] |
| #18zombiegleemaxDec 28, 2005 14:23:48 | Heading for the city, and not far off, a lone figure rides a pony. The guards at the watchtower can faintly hear the music drifting from her flute-like instrument and watch as she casually rides to the city gates to be sure she causes no trouble. Finally she arrives at the gate and negotiates with the guard her passage into the city walls. Promising to write a tune for the guard’s ill child, she enters the city and makes her way to her home away from home. [to Mrs Weatherby’s Boarding House] |
| #19zombiegleemaxJan 18, 2006 21:01:14 | Overhead an eagle soars, and lets out a cry. The smaller creatures of the woods run for cover. Yet, the stag took no notice. Eagles cry all the time, what did matter. There was nothing in these woods that it couldn't handle. With it's great strength and might antlers what would a little bird mean. What the stag didn't understand however was that the eagle carried no threat of death, just it's messenger. Death followed behind. This far into the wood the Stagg knew nothing of man, never seen a city, a wagon, a camp, nothing ever came this far out. The stag's first encounter with man, with manufacturing was in the form the golden arrow that pierced its throat. The herd, confused by the sudden fall of it's patriarch fled. "Damn, the string broke." Gilgiga muttered under his breath, it was an expensive string, made from the hairs of a unicorn tail, but that was expected when you didn't use proper sinew. Swiftly and silently he moved from the brush as the herd departed. Above the eagle Earl took perch in the boughs of a pine, watching the half orc move below. Gilgiga took a position beside the stag and threw down his bow. From his clothing he presented a wooden carving in the form of scales. Placing one hand over the eyes of the stag he beguan to pray. Silently he reflected upon the stag, how it protected its herd from the threats of pumas and wolves.. How the does and fawns of the heard would have their fates forever altered by his absence. Riseing and returning his bow and scales to their proper place Gilgiga then heafted the stag over his shoulder and turned to leave. "Good thing I found him when I did," Gilgiga said adressing Earl, "I was starting to get hungry." The eagle simply hissed in reply and dove into flight. |
| #20zombiegleemaxJan 19, 2006 23:53:47 | Earl stands on a branch watching the half-orc work. He had decided that the side of the camp upwind from the black iron pot was the best place to be. Even for a birds weakend sense of scent, he still wondered how the orcish man could stand it down there. He knew that food was cooked in those pots, it didn't like man food already, he'd still prefer his meat fresh, but he couldn't figure out why the half-orc would make something so foul. Gilgiga knew, Gilgiga even knew what made it smell so bad. The scent was lye, he was making soap. Naturally the first thing you think of when you think of druids isn't soap, and when half-orcs are brought into mind soap might come along with the word "no." Yet Gilgiga continued to make his soap. He looked at the skin spread out between two large stakes. After killing the stag he gutted and cleaned it with a knife made from its antlers. Getting a smaller piece sharp enough to remove the eyes proved a problem with his merely basic weapon crafting skills, but he managed to figure it out. He said another prayer then moved over to the smelly side of camp. Removing a hardened piece of deer fat and lye soap he looked down at the remains of the meat (he kept it here knowing that Earl didn't like this side of camp) and grabed a hunk of teh cooked stuff. He then shoved it into his mouth as he returned to the skin. Gengerly he beguan to wash off the reaming fats with his soap. |
| #21zombiegleemaxJan 22, 2006 22:32:52 | Gilgiga ran, this had been his second day away from camp, and now he figured it was time to head back. His body was bare except for the skin of the stag over his shoulders. Everywhere he could feel the scratch of thorns and brambles. The earth under his bare feet was callious and unforgiving. For the past day he had kept his energy up for the run with nothing but berries harvisted from the earth, and blessed by the good mother. At his side Earl flew. Wingovers and flips throughly enjoying the sprit of Gilgiga's run. The eagle let out a cry as Gilgiga made the final turn on the loop back twards the camp. Through Gilgiga's mind only one thing bothered him. How much the skin weiged saturated in his sweat. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The fawn stood seperated from its heard. Things had been off ever sence the bizzare preator took the stag. Panic and terror ruled. The fawn was just glad to be alone in a glade with no one to bother him, just eating with no cares. Beyond the glade the predator reveled in his discovery. There alone, not stag, no heard, stood the fawn, unsupescting, unknowing. The puma let out a scream, and the fawn was overwhelmed with terror and fear, unable to run, frozen to the spot as the puma lept twards him. Yet in the middle of his pounce the puma felt something hit his side like a ton of rocks. Dazed and confused it returned to its feet to see the new contender for the fawn. The Orc man stood tall before him, and in his hands was a fearsome weapon of steel. The Puma was forced to admit that his match had been met. With a hiss the puma returned to the deeps of the woods. Gilgiga turned to watch the fawn head off twards its heard, and thought to himself. "I have repayed my dept to you, now go little fawn, grow stong and take your fathers place." And so Gilgiga himself turned to head back twards Garic's City. Show Gilgiga by serving a task to the heard from which he took has completed the ritual for creating a Cloak of Resistance +1. |
| #22jace_cornwallJan 27, 2006 11:54:37 | *Jace walks out of the gates greeting a good morning to the gaurds, and continues into the forest on a search for good fire wood. Wary and listening he finds several pieces that would do. But he continues to gather more and more. Until it would take two trips for him to return with the all the wood.* .oO(I may be up again tonight.) *Jace places the remainder of the wood next to a tree he can find again and sets off back for Ms. Weatherby's* |
| #23zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2006 18:03:11 | After a long walk to the gates, Driden finally exits the city and makes his way into the nearby trees. A short while after, Driden stumbles upon a small river. Ahh there ya go...*hic*...*burp* After dropping his pack and sword, Driden walks into the river with the lure in hand. After a long moment of staring at his lure then to the river and back, Driden realizes his little problem. No rod...*hic*or stirng... With a shrug, the sorceror walks back to his pack and pulls out a bottle of wine. I can always imagine it...*hic* He then takes a step towards a nearby tree and sits up against it. After a swig of wine, he looks out towards the river and falls back into deep thought. |
| #24zombiegleemaxFeb 23, 2006 9:56:43 | After draining nearly half the bottle of the wine, Driden manages to get up and pick up his belongings. After a long stumble through the forest, he somehow makes his way back to the city gates. Stashing the bottle back in his pack, Driden enter the city without any problems. [to Last Lich Inn] |
| #25jace_cornwallMar 11, 2006 17:25:52 | *Jace walks out of the gates with his head bowed and face thoughtful.* .O(That was a bit strange...perhaps I did actually fall into some sort of meditaion in the inn. But there is just too much distraction in there. I may be able to do it in the future but not yet....I also need to learn elven. Imagin an elf that doesn't speak elven...) "Humph..." *Jace finds himself near to where he had gathered the wood for Mrs. Weatherby. Jace wanders a bit and finds the pill of excess wood that he had gathered and looks around. He sees some animal tracks on the ground where they came to investigate this strange gathering of wood.* .oO(I'm suprized that no humans found this and used it for themselves...) *Without much other thought Jace kneels down on the ground and once again clears his mind and tries to find his own place in his mind.* *** *After some time Jace stops and stands up. He feels a bit better and his body seems to be rested somewhat. With a smile Jace stands and gathers the remaining wood minus a few pieces because there isn't enough room in his arms. Laiden with almost his own weight in wood, Jace sets off for the city staggering under the load.* |
| #26astron_the_wizardMar 19, 2006 12:00:43 | The dwarf bursts out of the trees. Dragons!!!!!!!!!!!! He yells. Runn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll hold them off! He draws his dwarven waraxe. :P |
| #27jace_cornwallApr 06, 2006 2:06:54 | *Not very tired from his lazy day in the forge rubing oils and breaking in the leather, Jace doesn't feel much for fatiuge. In fact he feels fairly alive. Sitting and doing nothing for the last several hours must have been the doing. In a odd mood Jace speaks to the cool clean air beside himself* "Its a nice night isn't it." *Smileing to himself Jace wanders into the tree line looking for nothing in particular...something to draw his mind away from his restlessness.* |
| #28jace_cornwallApr 09, 2006 22:03:30 | After a few hours of aimless wandering Jace begins to feel his long day. Slightly put out at his lack of success in his odd treasure hunt Jace heads home. |
| #29slivernyfalseeyeJul 29, 2009 8:38:23 | Sliverny False-Eye stares dumbly at her feet as she puts one infront of the other. She stops for a breather, blessing her gnomish constitution, and leans against a tree. . o O (How blasted far could one city be?) Pulling a large text from her satchel, she flips through the pages. "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Maybe my most powerful spells... No, no, no, no, maybe, no, no, no, maybe but probably not." Exaggerated sigh. Pushing herself up off the ground, Sliverny stuffs the tome back into the satchel, hoists it over her shoulder, and begins trudging again. Half an hour later she crests a grassy hill and looks down finally on Garic's City. . o O (That's not as big as I expected.) The gnome falls back onto her butt (a very short fall) and stares at the town up to her hips in grass. . o O (Well, there is a tower there, I suppose that'd be the mage's tower. And a wall, so it's reliably safe. Safer than the forest at least.) She rattles her component pouch and mentally tallies her spell matrices. . o O (Nothing useful but Prismatic Spray and Atropy Ray left anyways. At least they rhyme. 'The very brave gnome held evil at bay, with prismatic spray and atropy ray... something something something.' Still, the town looks very hustly bussely. I'm sure I can find a nice quiet, private place if I try.) Another exaggerated sigh. "Get ready you city you, I'm coming your way." Pushes off again and marches down the hill towards the walls. |
