If you have never been invited to this place, pray that you never discover it. Just remember that even an invitation is no safeguard, should you earn the wrong figure's displeasure here.

For now, that's all you need to know.

"He has returned, you know," says the Nyctheron.

The young woman kneeling at the foot of the dais says nothing, so he continues to speak.

"You underestimated his anger, it would appear, child. You punished him, and when he vanished, you thought his shame had driven him off. Now it seems that his anger has brought him back with thoughts of revenge."

"Then this time I kill him," the woman replies.

"Perhaps you should have done that the first time," her senior says, his tone one that might chill the air around them.

"I-"

"You were intent on leaving him with a lasting reminder of your wrath. You have succeeded beyond your expectations; I believe he now possessed by our Master's own fury. You do realize what this means, do you not?"

The woman's expression registers only confusion. Her mentor sighs.

"It means that it is pointed toward us, unless we subdue it or find it a suitable target."

He waits until confusion turns slowly to terror.

"I see you begin to understand. You brought this upon us, so you will handle it. Learn the lesson; don't become the lesson."

The Nyctheron looks down upon a face filled with uncertainty. Nevertheless it nods once, quickly. He rewards the woman with a small smile.

"Go now, and prepare."

The black hooded acolyte kneels down in front of the dais of skulls, pressing his head onto the staind floor to defer his respect to the man seated on the throne atop it.

With a wave of his sceptre, the avatar of Kakodemmion bids his servant to meet his gaze. "You have served me well. Soon there will be no more need for the facade."

A eerily familiar voice responds. "You are indeed merciful, Master to allow me to live long enough to serve you."

"Mercy was not part of our deal."

"Of course Master. I was created to do your bidding. Nothing more. I am but a tool for your whims."

There is a slight nod from the demon in man's form on the throne.

"A mere tool. One that I still have uses for."

"When the time comes you will receive your reward."

"The Master is too... The Master does what he chooses to do.""

"Indeed."

The demon man stands, and moves towards the acolyte, crushing bones under his feet with each step. He looms above the prone form. With a clawed hand he reaches under the hood and drags the man to his feet.

"Bring her to me ere' the next time the moon is full."

"Let no harm come to her. The sacrifice must remain innocent and pure of heart if I am to return to this world in my full glory."

The mans hood falls away as he is pulled up. Codrian averts his eyes, as he answers.

"I live only to obey you my Master."

"You return sooner than expected, Violet," the Nyctheron says.

"I didn't have any other plans this evening anyway," she replies.

"I see. There were no problems?"

"None. The message will get to him soon enough."

"Good. It was well past time to tie up the loose ends anyway."

"Of course, Senior."

The older woman hesitates, brushing hair back behind one ear.

"Who... what do you think will happen?" she asks.

"Expectations have a way of getting us killed, Violet," the Nyctheron says gently.

"I'll try to remember that."

"So will I," he responds, frowning. "She's been more resourceful than I'd expected. One almost gets the impression that..."

"Senior?"

"Our Master can be very unpredictable, Violet."

"You'll get no argument from me!"

"In any case, these matters will tend to themselves, and we'll have word of the results soon enough. It is time I looked into another matter."

"How can I be of assistance?"

With a slight smile, the Nyctheron answers, "Not just yet, Violet. This is something I wish to investigate for myself first."
