Feel the need to smack Gamis around? Beat Kywyn senseless? Overthrow the tyranical rule of the Hermy and his Halfling Horde? Mop the floor with Mirrielle? Annihilate Aramil? Best Brodda? Demolish Darkar? Kill Kai? Butcher Boirin? Maul Maelut? Trounce Tagg? Ruin Ran? Crush Codrain? Jump Joseph? Eviscerate Ely? Nuetralize Natala? Terrorize Tyros?

Well heres your chance!


If knocking around your fellow characters appeals to you, this is the place to do it.

Contact the player you wish to pummel, (Over AIM works best, though email, and PMs also work.) and then find a third party to referee the combat for you.

Run the combat behind the scenes, and once your foe is a stain on the floor, post the results. (Or make the loser do it, but then you don't get to put a spin on it do you? )

Try to make it interesting, and make it easy to read. Don't just put a bunch of numbers out there. Make it a story that the bards will tell for ages.


Gamis or Kywyn? If you could post a generic map here, I would greatly appreciate it. My cartography skills are worse then my spelling.)

A generic tavern, littered with bottles, chairs, tankards, and stools that can serve as improvised weapons, and tables, the bar, and stage that can grant you higher ground in a melee. Not a bouncer in sight. All you need is Zz Top's "La Grange" playing, and you're all set for a brawl. ;)

The bar is four feet high; the tables and stage are three feet high. Getting atop the bar can be achieved with a Jump check of 16. Getting on top of a table or the stage is considered hopping up for Medium characters--it requires a DC 10 Jump check and counts as 10 feet of movement, but doesn't require a running start. For a Small character, this is considered a normal high jump, but it's possible to hop up to an upright chair, then the table--requiring two DC 10 Jump checks and 20 feet of movement. Since these surfaces are within their vertical reach, it may be easier and more tactically advantageous for Small characters to clamber up with a DC 15 Climb check and a move action. This can also be used by charactes of all sizes to get up on the bar. See the Jump and Climb skills in the PHB for more details and tactics.

While an attacker is on top of a table, the bar, or stage, and the defender is on the floor, the attacker receives a +1 bonus on melee attacks from being on higher ground.

The shelf behind the bar has a nigh-unlimited supply of bottles and tankards. As the map shows, there are many others scattered across the room on tables, the bar, and the stage. One of these objects sitting on the shelf, a table, the bar, or stage while you stand on the floor, can be picked up as if drawing a weapon (move action, no AoO, or better if you have Quick Draw). If you're on the same elevation as the object, picking one up is considered picking an object up (move action, provoking an AoO). In other words, if these objects are the height you can draw a weapon from, picking one up counts as such, but if it's at your feet, it's considered picking it up as normal.

Bottles deal 1d4 points of bludgeoning damage the first time they're used as weapons. Afterward, they deal 1d3 points of slashing or piercing damage. They count as light weapons. Tankards deal 1d4 points of bludgeoning, and are also light weapons.

Intact stools, two-handed weapons for all, deal 1d8 points of bludgeoning damage, and after they've been used once and smashed, you're left with a leg that deals 1d6 bludgeoning. Chairs, two-handed weapons as well, deal 1d10 points of bludgeoning damage and can stand up to 1d3 uses as a weapon before being broken. The leftover chair leg is identical to a stool leg. The kegs sitting behind the bar are two-handed weapons for Medium creatures and too big for Small creatures to wield. They deal 1d12 points of bludgeoning damage, but break after a successful melee hit or being thrown, regardless of a hit or miss, and leave nothing useful as a weapon.

All these objects are improvised weapons, and thus impose a -4 penalty on attack rolls and have a critical multiplier of x2. Bottles and tankards have range increments of 10 feet. As two-handed weapons, chairs, stools, and kegs require a full-round action to throw.

When upright, tables grant cover (+4 AC and +2 Reflex saves) as low objects, which can be ignored if the attacker is closer to the table than the defender. A Small character might hide under a table and gain improved cover against taller opponents. Tables can be thrown onto their sides and used for normal cover. The bar is high enough to provide improved cover (+8 AC and +4 Reflex saves, plus improved evasion) or total cover to a Small character or a Medium character who crouches.

Another battleground map, of a wrestling ring.

The ropes serve a useful purpose. Normally, attempting a bull rush or overrun or charging requires 10 feet of movement before you get "up to speed." Since the ring is so small, however, that kind of momentum can be difficult to get. Therefore, if a character can reach the ropes within the amount of movement alotted on a charge, you can bounce off the ropes to achieve the needed speed. You can also charge towards the ropes and effectively reverse direction on your charge.

The turnbuckles at the corner can be mounted from any side with a Climb check, DC 5, and a move action (they're about five feet tall, and since Climb speed is one-quarter your normal speed, as long as the dice aren't completely cruel this would pretty much work out as a move for most people). A position on a turnbuckle grants higher ground (+1 melee) than in the ring or on the ground. Also, even if you've spent a move action to climb onto it, you can still jump off as an effective charge--though you can move only half your speed (normally, charging is a special full-round action that allows you to move twice your speed).

If you're nimble enough, you can slip through the ropes to get from the ring to the floor or vice-versa. When passing through the ropes, make an Escape Artist check (DC 15). If you succeed, you can move through them at no movement cost. If you fail, they cost you 10 feet of movement to pass through (or over, or under; you can be creative). Alternatively, since the ropes are about three feet above the ring, you can vault them with a Jump check, DC 12. Remember to get a running start, though, or the DC doubles to 24. Jumping over the ropes from outside the ring is markedly more difficult: a 6-foot jump with a DC of 24. And if you want to try that without a running start at a Jump DC of 48, knock yourself out, Neo. Also note that if you attempt a Jump check untrained, you land prone unless you beat the DC by 5 or more.

What pro-styled wrestling match could be complete without folding metal chairs? These improvised weapons must be used two-handed, and deal 1d10 points of bludgeoning damage. See my last post for more information on such improvised weapons, but note that these babies don't break after a few hits.

And there are tables. Again, see my last post for more on them. These don't break as easily, either, and can't be used as weapons. At least not without someone helping you creatively.

Whether the match can spill out of the ring, leaving it disqualifies you, or you can stay out of it for a few rounds, is entirely up to the participants. Whether the match goes to pin-fall, unconsciousness, or death, is also entirely up to the participants. If you want to add more props to beat each other with before the match starts, feel free. Wanna try some rules for stunning your opponent long enough to set up an elaborate move? Work that out amonst yourselves. This may be the most appropriate arena for trash-talking before the match begins.

Oh, and one final note--I recommend against entering the arena on a cable from the ceiling.

Minto and Hermy approach the Last Lich Inn.

"Are you sure about this Hermy? I mean, I know someone needs to do something about this. But why you? And why can't we just tell Gamis when she's not around?"

Hermy adjusts his weapons. "Cause Ise a hero. An this is what heroes do."

Minto sighs. "But they usually kiss princess, not paladins."

Hermy shrugs. "The book doesn't say Princess. It just says Sleeping Beauty. An since Gamis is the prettiest person in town, that's probably him."

"But if he's at the inn, he's probably not sleeping."

"I heards Tynk was putting on a magic show here tonight. Everbody's gunna be sleeping."

Minto nods his head in agreement. "Good point."

"Now what was this curse again?"


"Wells in the book it was everbody sleeping fer a hundred years or somethin likes that, but Ise hoping it will also helps me gets rid of my athletes feet."

"Um, why would it do that?"

Hermy shrugs. "Well Ise hoping its sorta a generic curse ender."

Minto rolls his eyes. "Do you have everything you are going to need? Mirielle will kill you if you try anything."

"Ise got's my sword an magic boots. It's all I needs ta takes down Mary Ale."

Minto looks around, "Umm, I'll just wait out here if it's all the same to you."

Hermy nods. "Good idea. In case NaShae shows up. You knows how them girls likes to gangs up on me."

"Right." Minto rolls his eyes again.

Hermy pushes open the door to the inn, and steps inside. Much to his dismay, the only one sleeping is Kywyn, curled up in a corner booth mumbling about peanuts.

Hermy spies Gamis sitting at a table across the inn, enjoying a meal with his beloved, Mirielle.

.o0(Ok, he aint sleeping, but with the way that pies dribbling from his mouth he sure is a beauty.)

Hermy takes a few steps in, and then yells out. "Gamis! Ise here ta kiss ya!"

Gamis looks towards the pint sized hero, a coy smile starting to form on his lps, a sparkle growing in his eyes, a...

"Gamis!"

Gamis blushes and then apologizes to Mirielle. "Sorry dear."

Mirielle glares at the halfling. "Not as sorry as that halfling will be if he tries anything."

Gamis mumbles something and then looks at his reflection in his boots. "Yes dear."

Mirielle stands up and points at Hermy. "If you so much as pucker your lips you're going to be toast, manling. Burnt, crispy toast."

Hermy grins and blows her a kiss. "Wrongs. Ise gunna eats toast. With wizard jelly idfen ya tries ta stands in my way."

Hermy winks at Gamis, Mirielle points at him. "You loathsome little toad! You are going to eat dirt, and like it, and then beg for more."

Hermy waves at Gamis. "Nope, the loser gets ta eat dirt. The winner gets ta kiss that big hunka of pie covered tin."

Hermy dashes forward and slides under the nearest table. He fires off a bolt from his handcrossbow.

"I'lls helps you out! Duck!" Hermy smirks as the bolt flies towards the mage. "Ise probably shoulds have said that first, shouldn'ts I have."

Mirielle smirks back as the bolt hits the bottom of the table she is standing behind. "You might want to aim a bit higher too."

Hermy has only a few seconds to think before the wizard bursts into motion. .o0(I knew I shoulds have gotten magic platform shoes instead of these boots.)

With a snarl of anticipatory pleasure, Mirielle waves her hands in a complex gesture, intoning a dragonic phrase. A shimmer of pink energy washes over the halfling. Casts Waves of Fatigue She sneers at him. "Take a nap, why don't you."

Hermy blinks as the spell washes over him with no apparent effect. "I wills right aftert I beats you, an gives Gamis his kiss!"

He starts to reload, only to find his muscles feeling like he'd just ran three miles, done 50 push ups and ate four pumpkin pies.

The crowd begins to cheer. Someone yells out. "Threaten to throw Gamis in a lake! Throw him in the lake!"

Mirielle glowers at the crowd. "Watch it Gerug or you're next."

With Miris attention on a dwarf in the crowd trying to fade into the woodwork, Hermy fights off the urge to get in his pajamas and rushes forward, ducking under tables as he goes.

When the wizardess notices him, Hermy glares. "I'lls gives you to the counts of ten ta gives up the paladin."

"One. Two. Ten!"
Hermy leaps towards her, but she chuckles evilly, grabs hold of the back of Gamis hair and says Remuez-moi!" casts teleport

She reappears at the other end of the inn, and pushes Gamis into a nearby chair. "Sit."

Gamis sits down, placing his hands in his lap. "Yes dear."

Hermy looks around the inn and spots his quarry. "Running away is you?"

The wizard waves. "Don't worry little boy! I'm not through with you yet!"

Hermy scrambles across the tavern and stopping right next to her and catching his breath. "Youse... only... postponing... the ineligible!"

A shrill female voice calls out from the crowd. "Kill him Miri! You're my hero!" A few sheep echo the sentiment.

Miri starts casting a long incantation, and Hermy takes a swipe at her, scoring a nasty gash at across her thigh, while dodging the furious attack of her ferret familiar. Miri takes 8 points of damage.

It isn't enough to disrupt her spell though, Miri continues intoning and gesturing and two very large weasels materialize around the halfling. You look lonely Hermykins, you need new pets."

Hermy dodges their snapping teeth, "Thats all right. I don'ts have time fer the ones I already has. Majors still waiting ta get raised, an I aint mentioned the kittens in months. Thanks anyhow."

Hermy makes a clumsy stab at the wizard, "I'se gunna be nice an not use my Improved Feint this time.".

He quickily changes the speed of his attack, into a lethal strike. "Sucker!"

His blade once again cuts a gash in Miris thigh, but not as well as he had hoped. Miri takes another 5 points of damage.

The weasels set upon the hero as Miri steps back to cast another spell. [size=1]casts True Strike[/size]. One manages to sink its fangs into the halflings leg. Hermy takes 11 points of damage, 1 point of non lethal

A voice call out from the crowd. "Don't worry Hermy! If a dragon couldn't kill you, those rodents won't either!"

Hermy gives Darkar a quick nod and then glares at Miri. Can't ya fight yer battles yerself?"

"It's called using your resources, nitwit!"

Hermy slips under a pile of weasel fur but then rolls out unhurt and sinks his blade into the surprised mage's gut. Miri takes 26 points of damage

[color=purple]"An thats called being tricky." He smirks. "Ya probably shoulds have saved that teleport spell of yers... Stinky."

Ixchal scratches at Hermy furiously. Hermy takes 1 non lethal. as the crowd goes wild, Someone in the crowd starts singing. "Through the flesh to the bone!--- Such extremes shape this fight--- Fire is fed! Blood is shed!"

Gasping in pain, Mirielle points her finger at Hermy, and drawing on her preparations, a ray of darkness shoots out, hitting the halfling squarely in the chest, draining his vitality. Enervation. Hermy loses 3 levels and 15 hit points

The weasels take advantage of his surprise at being struck, and one of them buries its teeth into his shoulder. Hermy takes 7 points of damage and 1 non lethal.

The singing voice in the croud gets louder. A ray of hope emerges bright as day!--- Amidst the darkest hour, reveals what is pre-ordained!"

Hermy flinches and grimaces. "Ok, that didn't feel so good."

He lowers his sword. "Buts it wasn't near as painful as that lady's singing. You don'ts happen ta gots a fireball you cin spare, do you Mary Ale?"

With a side long glance at the crowd, Mirielle pauses. "Y'know... I think I do."

"Well, I'll promise not ta stabs ya fer a bit, ifen you'll stop the madness." Hermy puts his sword away, and holds out his empty hands. "Look, I aint even crossing my fingers."

"Climb on the magic we weave--- And I promise I will see---- The spell is never broken!" The singing continues.

Mirielle spins on her heel and unleashes a fireball, centered on the hapless singer. "It's a deal."

"Aiieeeegh!!" The smell of burning flesh, and the sounds of screaming bystanders fills the room. Bar patrons go running everywhere. The screams wake up the sleeping sorceror in the corner. "..."

Hermy watches for a bit, and then draws out his sword. "Ok? Where was we?" He thinks. "Oh right! You just spellded me so Ise sick an stuff likes that, an I was abouts to stabs you in the back."

"Ready?"


"Oh just lay down and die already... yeah. yeah...'ready'."

Hermy springs into action, leaping forward and then tumbling through the wizardess legs, before jumping up on the table behind her. "Nice underpants. Gamis has a pair just likes that."

Miri blushes furiously, and Hermy takes advantage of her distraction to catch her off guard, but his footing slips on an overturned mug, and he only manages to slash open half of her tunic, rather then her skin.

Hermy stares for a moment as peices of her tunic float to the ground, "I don't think Gamis has any of those."

Snarling, Mirielle raises her arms and unleashes five luridily glowing pink energy balls that slam into the halflings jaw, at the same time one of the weasels leaps onto the table and rips into the halflings leg, tasting blood.

The hero topples off the table and lands in a heroic heap on the ground. Grinning, Miri buffs her fingernails on her skirt. "Hmmm, I've never dissected a halfling before... Oh Gamis, darling..."

The paladin sighs, "Yes dear."

It’s a full house tonight at the Fight Thread Wrestling ring as the final event of the evening approaches. Not a seat is vacant ringside, nor in the skybox, as the match draws near…

Codrian walks around with an ad board, showing to the audience such endorsements as 'Dwarferade energy drinks - drink and hammer until next morning,' and 'Lusty Elven Maidens - featuring in this July, the Girls of Ordemetrex.'

Darkar takes his seat at the commentator’s table and turns on his mic. He surveys the burgeoning crowd, then speaks: "Good afternoon everyone today's talked about match is the battle of the pretty boys. It all started last week when Mirielle and NaShae got into a heated argument about who had the best looking man…"

Thinks Gamis, listening offstage, .oO("Heated" including 9d6 points of fire damage...)

"It was decided the only way to settle the dispute was to have the two slug it out right here, tonight, in the GsC Fight Thread Wrestling ring. The last man standing will be the best looking in all of GsC. Stay with us; this main event will be beginning shortly!"

The rabid fans stand in their seats around the squared circle. They have waited for this moment the whole evening: the main event. A stark silence of anticipation swells over the assembled horde, the agonizing calm before the furious storm. They clasp their refreshments and homemade signs while looking to the entry aisle. What is so moving about watching two souls clash, leaving their bodies and hearts in that ring? Emotion goes into it and comes out of it, and the match ceases to be about two people, and becomes something more... something that draws the breath of the entire world.

Then it hits. The lights go out, the arena is cast into darkness, and the crowd erupts. The somber, electric strums of Nirvana's "Come As You Are" fill the atmosphere and, at the entryway, a throbbing blue light starts to build. On the miraculous crystal screen above the entrance, images start to flash by: gravestones and ghosts, rain and lightning, and a hooded figure.

"Come as you are, as you were,
As I want you to be
As a friend, as a friend, as an old enemy."


The indigo hue grows in intensity until it permeates the aisle and then the flashing lights start. Smoke erupts in front of the entry ramp and a dark figure comes into view, lifted up on a platform from an opening in the ramp. A grey hood conceals the man's face, and the torn cloak runs in a stream down his front and back. The rest of his body is covered in black, form-fitted cloth except for the distal portions of his limbs, which are sheathed in metal armoring.

"Take your time, hurry up
The choice is yours, don't be late.
Take a rest, as a friend, as an old memoria..."


As the man stalks down the ramp and then the aisle with the deliberate stride of a zombie, the timekeeper's bell rings distinctly twice, followed by the voice of Darkar, the ring announcer tonight.

"Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for the main event. This will be a Last Man Standing match!"

The crowd continues to go wild.

"Introducing first, from parts unknown, weighing in at one-hundred and fifty pounds... Kywyn!"

Kywyn walks slowly until he reaches the ring. In lieu of the ring steps, he grabs the middle rope and hops up to the apron. Vaulting over the top rope into the ring, Kywyn looks around to take in the assembly. He raises both his fists forward and above his head for a few seconds before pacing to his corner. He turns to rest his back against the turnbuckle and slumps to slouches nonchalantly in the ring corner and await his opponent's introduction. While seated, Kywyn pulls off his cloak and passes it under the bottom rope to a waiting attendant.

The lights go down again momentarily and the screen goes to black once more. After a few beats, the metal pulse of electric guitar throbs into the air. Strobes flicker over the audience for a measure of the song, a slightly-modified version of Disturbed's "Prayer," then the screen fades in from black to show an altar raised on a dais in the transept of a temple. Kneeling before it, wide shoulders and solid back facing the view, is a brown-haired, barefoot man in an off-white, long-sleeved shirt, and worn-blue trousers. As the lyrics of the song finally begin, he rises to his feet and takes up a piece of the armor carefully arrayed on his left side. The view flashes momentarily on each part of the mail as it's donned--the two halves of a cuirass buckled together around his torso, gardbrace and pauldron laid around the shoulders, a fist sliding into a vambrace and gauntlet, cuisse and greaves being buckled around the legs, swordbelt strapped around the waist...

Another dream that will never come true
Just to compliment your sorrow
Another life that I've taken from you
A stop to causing good folk pain and suffering
Another truth you can never believe
Has crippled you completely
All the cries you're beginning to hear
Trapped in your mind, and the sound is deafening


Arming and devotions completed, the figure turns away from the altar and makes for the door. The view dollies alongside him, keeping his boots in view as he walks down the aisle.

Let me enlighten you
This is the way I pray


Two armored hands throw the portal open to a blindingly bright outdoors. At that moment, the entrance ramp is shrouded by a cascade of silver-white motes that pulse as they fall to the ground and wink out. The theme goes to chorus as the other contestant enters the arena, one hand raises as he strides, glancing to the audience while he approaches the ring. His face and tall, solid build are recognizable from his introduction, but he wears a chainshirt, not the fullplate, to the match today. He pushes down the middle rope to give himself more room and steps through, into the canvas finally.

"And also introducing, from Lilac Ford, weighing in at one hundred ninety pounds... Sir Gamis Pfaebinn!"

The paladin waves to all four sides of the crowd, his 'thank you!' lost among their cheers. He bows once, then walks to his corner to shed his chainshirt, leaving him in the button-up, arms rolled to the elbows.

A quiet rumbling can be heard in the audience, it seems that all of slums have turned out for this match and the skyboxes are full of nobles, with the exception of two in reserve for Miri and NaShae.

"Ah Silmarwen is stepping into the ring it seems the combatants are ready as well," says Darkar.

The cleric walks into the center of the ring and lays down (or mutters?) the ground rules: "A good clean fight blah blah blah, never will volunteer for charity work again…" She steps out of the ring. Codrian looks coolly at her and shrugs. He lays his hand around one of LEM girls who is nearby.

The crowd is watching intently, dropping into silence in the pre-match tension. Lucian is munching on popcorn. "WOHOOO Knock 'em dead!" he shouts. The bell goes off, and an ecstatic scream erupts from the rowdy sea of bodies.

As the ring bell sounds, Kywyn glances between his opponent and the crowd surrounding them. He is reluctant to get to near Gamis in the early going. Walking to the center of the ring Kywyn looks at his foe coolly and raises his own arms. The dark-clad man wonders if his paladin rival will mirror the gesture. Gamis smiles predatorily but doesn't follow the gesture, instead opening the match with a bounce off the ropes and a charge at Kywyn, arm extended to knock the sorcerer onto his back with a clothesline. The darker-haired man's eyes widen slightly before the charging figure. He kicks his right foot out reflexively in a snapping motion to try and counter.

Darkar gives his take on the first scant seconds of the match: "Kywyn strikes a mighty pose and the audience cheers and some woman faint. Gamis rushes to knock the sorceror down, but quickly he counters connecting with a quick kick. Such fluid motion is like he is floating on air." The 'ref' elf takes a out a nail file and begins checking on her nails the fight barely registering on her senses.

With a few, strong roundhouse kicks, Kywyn hacks at the thigh muscle of the large man, trying to damage the legs. He then jumps into a cartwheel backwards to get some space. "Should've taken your time, Tinman," Kywyn hisses.

Gamis flinches slightly at the kick. "Why wait? Let's get this party started..." The paladin pursues the bouncing sorcerer and seeks a grip on his wrist and the side of his neck for a collegiate-style grapple. Kywyn sees Gamis coming and shoots a knee up to try to stop the knight's progress.

"Kywyn lands a swift kick into Gamis' thigh and that is going to leave a bruise. I can only hope Mirielle does not have a fetish for legs. With a quick twist and a flip he backs away from his opponent. As Gamis charges Kywyn gives the knight what looks like a low blow. That has got to hurt, I almost need ice myself from seeing that one. But either it was really off-center, or he's wearing one of those steel speedos, because it doesn't seem to register."

"Slippery little fish today, aren't you..." says the paladin as his opponent avoids his grip.

Codrian shouts from his model-cushioned spot, "I am not a fish!!" Silmarwen is seen ordering a drink from zombie Treble and misses the low blow. It’s unlikely that she would have objected anyway. Instead of paying Treble, Silmarwen pulls out her holy symbol and poof dust rains on the crowd and there is a scramble for free drinks.

Back against the ropes, Kywyn jumps and tries to grab ahold of Gamis's neck and slide over to his back in a sleeper hold.

"Kywyn jumps on Gamis and it appears he is trying to choke his opponent out. Nice strategy, but oh look ladies at Gamis flex his massive muscles and throw Kywyn off his back!!!"

"Oof," Kywyn lands on his feet. The paladin twists around and lays into Kywyn with his fists, punching at stomach, shoulder, and upper arm, wondering if he'll charley-horse the sorcerer. The force to his gut causes Kywyn to double over.

"Gamis launches a full assualt on Kywyn and connects solidly however Kywyn's punch does cause Gamis to pause slightly. Wait?!? What is this Kywn has doubled over in pain, what an opening for Gamis to take!!!

Feeling that now he has something to strut about, Gamis walks a circle around the dazed sorcerer, letting out a whoop at the crowd and punching the air.

"What?... You.... Oh..." Kywyn starts to seethe while catching his breath. The crowd starts to chant for Gamis as he poses and Kywyn is standing there stunned, it seems that the momentuem is changing in the fight.

Once able to stand straight again, Kywyn dives into a roll to slide out of the ring. Holding his stomach, he staggers to the safety barrier, reaching into the fans' side for a little advantage. "'Last man standing' rules, Sir Knight..." he mutters, as he comes up with a chair. [i]"A little heavy, but it'll do,"[/i] Kywyn thinks.

"Tension mounts as Kywyn rolls out of the ring and reaches into the crowd. What is this? Oh, my! Kywyn has relived a fan of his chair and now he holds it aloft waiting for Gamis' move!!!"

Gamis crosses the canvas in the opposite direction and slides through the ropes, making for the chair not far from his starting corner. "Two can play at that game, Mr. Tenebrous!"

"Both men now armed with chairs pause to take stock of each other, and the crowd is calling for blood! Judging from the hidden cameras in NaShae's skybox she is enjoying her man getting all sweaty and violent, based on her expression."

Silmarwen, seeing that the fighting has stopped wonder's if her job is over. "Gamis win already?" she asks.

"No, you air-brain," Codrian answers her.

"Shut up and look at fight or the floozies you're with," Silmarwen retorts to he half-elf, missing what comes next.

With chair in hand, Kywyn rolls back into the ring. Upon seeing Gamis grab a chair of his own, Kywyn's adrenaline kicks into overdrive. He stands ready to do something he might regret, but hopefully something his opponent will regret even more… Thinks the paladin, .oO(This I've got to see...) Carrying his chair, Gamis comes back to the ringside. Kywyn sees the ropes and then the ground fly beneath him in slow motion as he collides with Gamis. The crunching sound that follows echoes in Kywyn's head as they both land in a heap.

"WOW, Kywyn flies over the top of the ropes and then drives the chair into Gamis’s skull, what a change of events! If only Kywyn could attack, now the is crowd chanting his name again. It could turn ugly quick for Gamis and could be relegated to being the man in the tin mask!!!"

Rising to his feet while wincing in pain, Kywyn dashes back into the ring and runs all the way to the otherside. Once there, he slides out and kneels down to look under the ring apron for something...

Silmarwen just glowers at Codrian and moves back to the action at ringside.

Gamis shakes his head to clear its ringing. "Ooo, now he's gonna get it..." Looking around, he fails to see the sorcerer immediately, and circles the outside of the ring, still carrying his chair.

"Kywyn is under the table trying to get something, but I can not see from the viewpoint what it is… Wait, Kywyn has a ladder, and is not to far from Gamis with it. He is going for broke it seems, can Gamis do anything to counter this?"

"Dammit, he's too close," Kywyn says as he sees Gamis come around the bend. He continues pulling out the object of his search: a 10 ft, steel ladder and manhandles it into the ring near his corner. He struggles to hold the ladder up in the ring, "Ooo, so heavy..." Gamis folds his chair up and hefts it overhead, takes aim, and hurls it at Kywyn inside the ring. Turning to duck just in time, the sorcerer glares at his opponent. He pulls the ladder open and stands it up in the corner. "Time to learn something, Gamis."

"Giving more lessons on falling down and going boom?" he calls back as he walks to the barrier and looks around for another goodie.

“Better than baking lessons," Kywyn retorts as he sees what the knight has in hand.

"Gamis has reached into the crowd and taken the Tollhouse cookie sheet from Miss Cuwen. Good thing Hermy likes pies, or he would be mad."

“You show 'im, honeybuns!" yells Miri, bouncing up and down.

Gamis blinks as he looks at the 'weapon,' then waves in the direction of the skybox. "You wanna bake something with this after I smack him around with it, dear?"

“Yeah, I'll bake a cake shaped like his head!

Kywyn steps through the ropes and hops down to the floor to pick up the chair that Gamis threw at him. "Cake shaped like what?"

"Your head!" someone shouts.

"Hey, shut up," Kywyn turns, looking for the voice. Taking the cue from the one person the crowd starts chanting, "cake!"

"Keeping my chair warm for me? " Gamis asks as he charges straight at the sorcerer and smacks him across the temple with the sheet. Kywyn starts to see stars as he leans against the ring apron.

"Gamis knocks Kywyn silly with the cookie sheet and he stands there with glazed look in his eyes. No pun intended." Laughs and a 'sure there wasn’t!' are heard from the crowd at Darkar's wit.

Gamis drops the cookie sheet and grabs the chair in Kywyn's hands.

"Hey...my chair..."

"Good grip for a man knocked for a loop..." Gamis comments as he wrenches it from his opponent’s fingers finally.

"My... chair..." Kywyn utters. Dazed as he may be, enough lucidity remains for the sorcerer to evade the swinging seat.

"The crowd boos Gamis loudly as he is unable to connect, oh the shame of it all!!!" Shaking the cobwebs out of his head, Kywyn tries to get away from Gamis's barrage of attacks. He leaps and rolls over the ring steps in search of a weapon of his own.

"Hey, I know you," he says to the chair he pulls out.

"Everyone loves this guy, they keep giving him their seats!" shouts Darkar into his microphone.

Gamis scoops up the slightly-deformed cookie sheet from the ground and flings it at Kywyn frisbee-style. "You're gonna get to know bruises pretty good, too, sorcerer."

"Bruises? Nah, I wouldn't want to come between you two, you damage-magnet," he replies as he focuses and sweeps precisely, batting the sheet out of the way with one gauntleted hand.

"Damn that Dex bonus!" Sir Pfaebinn the frustrated thrower shouts.

"Praise it, you mean." Kywyn moves steadily toward Gamis, shifting to the right and then the left with an overhead swing with the steel chair.

"Kywyn moves to hit Gamis with the chair, but Gamis blocks, now wait it seems his fingers got caught between the two chairs! That must smart!!!"

"You pinched me! Do I look like a leprechaun to you?" Gamis unleashes a folding-chair beatdown on Kywyn, who tastes the steel once again and is dazed. Gamis drops the chair to the ground and kicks it open, grabs the sorcerer by the elbow, and flings him at the chair. "Have a seat, why don'tcha? You look a little tired!" Crashing through the chair, Kywyn's vision starts to blur.

"..."

"Grabbing Kywyn by the arm Gamis flips him over his head and then slams him into the chair which promptly collapses. I do not see Kywyn moving, perhaps the referee should start counting?"

"That's you, Silmarwen," Codrian says. She jumps to her feet and starts the count. However, Kywyn starts to stir and show signs of life. In the meantime, Gamis turns to the crowd and flexes, raises his hands to encourage the applause, and then rips off his shirt. Mirielle can be seen to fan herself.

“Wha?" Kywyn looks at Gamis posing. "Thank the gods his pants stayed on…” Kywyn steps over to the nearest chair on the floor and picks it up. He then folds it and throws it at Gamis.

"Kywyn hurls the chair at Gamis it hits him, but his flexing muscles absorb the blow it seems…"

"You can't hurt steel!" Gamis shouts, then takes a running start, drop-kicks at his foe and connects. Simultaneously, the Avowed's favorite boy counters with a swift kick to the midsection.

"This truly is a marvelous fight one for the ages. Perhaps the rematch should be called Beauty vs The Beast…"

Kywyn takes advantage of their positioning to swing his fists wildly, taking his opponent across the jaw. Gamis responds with another gut-punch, a shoulder-check, and a headbutt. "Ugh..." Kywyn falls forward. The still-upright wrestler sets up one of the chairs and sits down and massages his bruised chin.

"Oh, Kywyn drops like a rock, get the referee!!!!" an excited Darkar shouts. Silmarwen rushes over and begins the 10 count.

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, ... 10. We have a winner: Gamis by a knockout," the elf declares in her monotone as Codrian rings the bell. The win declared, Gamis takes his feet and raises his arms to the crowd. They shout for the victor as his theme starts to play again.

"Thank Thalos that is over…" Darkar can almost be heard to slump as the contest finishes. "Match time is 16 rounds… When Kywyn can speak again, we'll have to ask him how it feels to go 1 minute and 36 seconds with Garics's number-one tank."

Cordian prods the unconscious Kywyn a couple of times and nods for the medical team to carry the loser away. Hex leaps and takes a spot on his master‘s chest. As the stretcher goes up the entrance aisle a mysterious force conjures an effigy of Kywyn and throws him from the ladder… Apparently Vernial is not pleased with the loss as the Avowed turn there back on the ring and then fade out of sight.

When Kywyn opens his eyes agin, he is being helped to the back. "Ow..." Microphones swarm around him, interviewers wanting to know how he feels, what he’s going to do next. The black frog takes another jump and perches on his forehead as he leans it forward to look down at Gamis taking a lap around the ring, then going up to the skybox for a victory kiss from Mirielle. He frowns and calls down, his vow caught by the mikes: "Next time, Tinman… Next time!" Hex adds his agreement with a loud "Ribbit!"

Hermy places a sticker on his dragons flank and then mounts up. The sticker reads "I Break For Pie." Once he's all saddled up, Hermy checks his equipment. Sword loose in the scabbard, the cord from his crossbow to his belt securely and then pats Mister Major II on the neck. "Lets fry us some elfies."

Gamis, referee of this match, sits on his bronze between the two combatants on the open field and glances between them, waiting for their signal that they're ready to go.

Hermy's red dragon snorts, a hint of smoke twirling up from his nostrils.
"Explain to me again why I can't let anyone know I can talk will you?"

Hermy pats him again. "Fer the elephant of surprise of course."

"Are you ready Red Plauge? Remember that Hermy is full of nonsense and tricky" Darkar checks the straps on his saddle as he readies for combat.He adjusts the straps that hold the lance at ready by the saddle and slings the bow and a couple of quiver of arrows on his back and readies short sword and rapier.

Gamis runs a hand through his hair.
"Feel free to trash-talk before the match gets started," the paladin adds, checking the polish of his armor in one of his dragon's shiny scales.

"Thats woulds dirty up Mister Major's paint job." Hermy points at the purple streak down the red dragons flanks. "I didn'ts has Kywyn paint these neato racing stripes on just fer them ta get all smudged."

Hermy's dragon shakes it's head and sighs. .o0(Mother always told me to avoid heroes, now I know why.)

Red Plauge looks at the little morsel and his mouth waters. "Do you think I can use his body for snacking when we win?"

"If we win....." He climbs in to the saddle and signals that he is ready to the referee.

Hermy pulls his goggles over his eyes and tightens the chin strap on his dragon skin helmet and then waves at Darkar.


"Ready for a good fight Hermy?" Darkar waves back.

"No, buts Ise ready fer this one." Hermy grins. "I'lls see you back here on the ground in a few seconds! "

"Don't worry, I has a spatula ."


"So you are making me victory pancakes then?"

"Well I'lls be making youse into a pancake, not a victory one though."Hermy spurs his dragon skyward.

"I certainly hope not...." Red Plauge takes to the sky as well when he sees Major II stir. The dragon and rider climb to fifety feet above the ground..

Mister Major II takes off at full speed heading straight for Darkar and his little red lizard. Hermy takes aim and fires a crossbow bolt at the dragon. "Hey, has you ever heards Mintos song?"

"Which song? I have heard so many."

"The one hes gunna writes about you, an a quick fall to the ground."


Hermy's shot goes wide of Plague, hindered no doubt by the range of the shot.

Seeing Hermy shoot Darkar pulls his bow and fires an arrow at the hero.
"Can't you shoot better than that Hermy?"

"Yeah, but what a boring song it'lls be ifen ya die in the first verse!"

Wide open spaces prove to be the bane of Darkar's shooting as well.

Hermy's dragon charges at Purge, striking out with tooth and claw at the other mount. Hermy struggles to draw his sword and hold on at the same time. Right as his dragon hits, Hermy magically gains complete control and buries his blade into the dragons hide.

Mister Major II's knife-like teeth rip into Plague's hindquarter (-11 hp, Plague at 85/45 +1 NL). The dragon cagily sees through Hermy's ploy, and a clumsy stab of Hermy's sword is turned back by his scales.

Red Plague furious at the halflings assault tears into him with abandon. Biting teeth, slashing claws, wings and tail whirling with unbriddled hatred. Shocked by the Red Plague's fury Darkar struggles to hang on while drawing his rapier to attack Hermy as well.


The elf's dragon shows his displeasure as his wings beat and hold him aloft by wounding the halfling, jaws, talons, and one wing impacting him hard (26 damages, Hermy 30/52 +4 NL) Darkar's rapier he evades with a deft twist.

Hermy's red bites out at the elf attacking his rider. Hermy sticks out his toungue with such force he nearly falls out of his saddle, yet somehow he manages to grab hold and thrust his sword at the elf before MMII flies away.

Darkar is taken in by Hermy's move, Hermy's sword cuts Darkar deeply in the vitals, and once he gets the benefit of the reach of his neck, MMII bites him, too. (40 damage, Darkar 19/57 +2 NL) [color=purple]


"Neiner, neiner, neiner!Darkar ain't got no... "[/color] Hermy starts to mock his oppanant, but the clouds open up and a stern face looks through it at the halfling hero.
"Oh, hi there ST... umm. Darkar aint got nomagic boots. And he smells!"


The striped dragon coasts away on angry wings. but Mister Major II receives a nasty bite as he flies away (17 damages, MMII 79/95 +1 NL)

Gamis, astride the hovering bronze nearby, whistles and winces at the flurry of claws and jaws from both sides.
"That was an ouch."

"Climb higher." Red Plague moves further from the other dragon while rising upwards to a hundred feet above the surface.

Hermy spins around in his saddle to see what his foe is up too.
"Sees what he's doing Mister Major II, he's trying ta gets in a sneaks attck by running away. We'll shows him who the sneak is, won'ts we."

With a few sweeps of his wings MMII climbs upwards to match the enemies elevation, and then turns to face him. Hermy and his dragon climb higher as well, keeping the distance even.

Red Plague holds his position, eyes locked onto Hermy and Mister Major, nostrils steaming.
The dragon hovers in place while whispering to Darkar and the elf twirls his rapier ready to deflect any incoming attacks.

Hermy the Hero yells out.
"Let's show him who the city's biggest hero is."

Darkar Shadowood calls back.
"That would probably be Aric, but you are the greatest hero Hermy."

Gamis chuckles. His dragon shakes his head, then speaks. "If this turns into a match of compliments, there may be a chance of lighting."

"Flatterys will gets ye no wheres, except mabye ta a barbeque"

Hermy spurs his mount forward towards the other dragon, Mister Major Iets out a gust a flame directed at Darkar..

Seeing the cone of dragon fire coming right at him, Darkar abandons ship, trusting to the
feather fall enchantment. The flame washes over Plague but doesn't affect him in the least.

Hermy makes a quick finger gesture, and then yells at the slowly falling elf.
"I tolds you I'd meets you on the ground! 'lls be down rights after ya!"

Plague sighs and turns his nose to the ground, spiraling around in his dive to come to rest right next to Darkar. Mister Major II follows, diving down, claws out-stretched to grab the elf before Darkar can get settled.

Hermy waves as his dragon gets close.
"Hey! Hi Darkar! Ya ruined a good trick, wanna see another?"

Once within striking distance, Hermy pulls a new trick out of his bag. Hermy watches Darkars eyes until he sees Darkar watching for him to pretend to slip, and then he surprises the elf by not falling out of the saddle.

Darkar raises a hand.
"Parlay?"

"I don'ts speak elf? Does that mean you gives up?"

Darkar nods. "Yeah, and I will buy the pancakes."

"Ok, but there'd better be milk in the deal too." Hermy hurridily adds, "Oh, an a lime."

Darkar nods again.
"I am sure that Red Plague can find a cow somewhere... Limes? Marketplace?"

"Sounds good! An with these dragons, Ise sure we'll gets a huge discounts on the price." Hermy grins.

Darkar shakes his head.
" Of course"

Hermy scratches his head and tries to think of more surrender terms.
"Hmmm, yer dragon aint breathed yet. We shoulds gets some marshmellows while wese at it,."

Gamis and the bronze swoop down to the landing sight for the paladin to raise Hermy's fist in the air as a sight of victory.
"Someone mention pancakes?"

"Darkar did! Boy, Mintos gunna has fun with this."

"Think we could get clams as a topping instead of strawberries? I think that's what this gentleman would prefer." Gamis pats the shoulder of his dragon. "Right of embellishment is hereby granted to Hermy Woodhome for this aerial dragon battle. Now to the pancakes."

"Lets go!" Hermy smiles even more, and then spurshis dragon towards the market at full speed.

"Whenever you're ready."

He does not assume a set stance yet and stands naturally in the moonlight before the dawn.

"He's a real monk... Don't stand toe-to-toe..." Kywyn strategizes.

Ran stands motionless, turning himself full profile towards Kywyn for better balance and easier defense, trying to seize up his opponent.

.oO(I can make the jump easily enough, but I'm sure that's what he's waiting for. Then again, he's not going to fall over all on his own and I don't feel like playing the waiting game right now...)

"Right..."

The elf makes a perfunctory bow, bends his knees and jumps forward, keeping his trajectory as flat as possible and holding his arms up with open hands to deflect any attacks, hoping to push Kywyn off the trunk he's standing on rather than going for a kick or punch.

With Ran flying towards him, Kywyn barely has enough time to bring his left forearm up. He braces it with his right palm and lifts his weight up in a hop. The impact of Ran's shove pushes Kywyn back, but the man goes with the momentum and lands on the next stump behind.

Kywyn jumps diagonally to a near stump adjacent to the one Ran is now on. In a flash of light cloth, Kywyn kicks out at the elf with his heel, aiming for a mid-height target.

Ran lands awkwardly, needing every bit of resistance Kywyn's raised arm offers just to be able to stay on the trunk, but he manages not to fall and to keep up a credible defense.

.oO(That wasn't very smart. I thought I'd lost most of my impetuousness...)

That's about all the thinking he has time for as Kywyn's foot shoots out towards his midriff. Ran's only option is to drop to one knee and block the kick with his upper right arm, pushing the sorcerer's leg upwards to try and unbalance him and gain the initiative again.

A forced breath slides out of Kywyn's throat as his leg is pushed skyward. Relying on his flexibility, Kywyn hopes for the best as he is over extended and falls forward into a split-legged position, one foot supported on either trunk.

From this unfavorable position, Kywyn grits his teeth and wavers an open hand toward the crouching elf. Without his feet beneath him or his waist free for torque, there is very little impetus behind his soft maneuver.

"Not bad. Not bad at all. You move very well."

The elf grins and cricks his neck. He lifts a hand and motions for Kywyn to make a move.

"Your turn..."

Kywyn exhales.

"You seem to have all the tools for this," he compliments.

Turning to the side, Kywyn plants both hands on the dirt and grass ground and rolls to his feet. He steps up atop another trunk to begin again.

Judging the distance between his stump, and the next one, and the one Ran has chosen, Kywyn taps his foot gently on the surface. He skips forward, right foot landing on the neighbouring stump for a second as his rear leg catches up. By the time that happens, his right foot is already hooking out to attack Ran up high. Kywyn gambles on Golden Dragon Swings Its Tail to force his rival from his perch.

Ran decides to meet his opponent head-on, catching Kywyn's right shin in the palms of his hands and pushing back, but he's unable to exert enough force completeky block the attack and has to retreat to the very edge of the tree trunk, only his toes still gripping the wood. Having sufficiently halted the sweeping kick he drops his right hand to the stump and brings his leg arcing round to try and sweep the sorcerer's supporting leg out from under him while trying not to fall to the ground, coming up behind Kywyn and closer to the center of the tree stump.

His kick denied, Kywyn recoils into a one legged-stance as he sees Ran's circular leg sweep coming and jumps up. The dark-haried man switches legs while in the air and lands on his right now.

Not comfortable with an all-or-nothing attack, Kywyn backpedals onto his starting stump. He stands in an upright pose, rotating his hips slightly to align his spine and counterbalance himself on his bent legs and heels.

Sensing it's not to his advantage to have to move towards his opponent Ran immediately follows Kywyn and tries to reduce the fighting space as much as possible, his front foot actually positioned behind the sorcerer's front leg and his hands blurring, trying to move Kywyn's arms out of position for a quick strike.

.oO(I think I might have the edge up close, but if he forces me off this trunk I'll be in trouble...)

Steady in his stance at first, Kywyn feels his personal space breached. He tries to back up again but is stopped by Ran's blocking foot. To stop himself from falling off the stump, Kywyn lowers and spins in place, putting his back against Ran's stomach and trying to crowd the monk's striking ability.

From this coiled position, Kywyn attempts to spring up strongly, pressing into the elf.

Being pushed upwards, Ran has to jump backwards to another tree stump. Unable to see where he's supposed to end up, the elf lands awkwardly and one of his feet slips off and touches the ground. He raises one hand to acknowledge the score for his opponent.

"Well done. I was running out of options there, having committed to my attack. Want to have another bout?"

"It was out of desparation."

"Something a frog taught me..." he adds.

Kywyn stretches out his arms and tests his elbow.

"Your attack would be more than enough. When I was forced into the splits the first time, I had no where to go. I figure that ties it. Best out of three?"

He moves to another stump for a different configuration of footings.

On the edge of the horizon, the first red glimmer of the sunrise starts to hint through.

Ran arranges his shirt properly and jumps lightly onto a tree stump about 15 feet from Kywyn's. The monk assumes a defensive stance and tries to devise the best tactic to attack his opponent.

.oO(Charging in isn't going to work, taking it close is too much of a gamble - building it up carefully seems like the best course of action...)

Kywyn adjusts his steel-plated gloves and vaults over to the next stump in Ran’s direction. With downcast eyes, Kywyn circles his arms and brings them up in a fighting stance, forward hand open, rear hand in a fist.

Not looking his opponent in the eyes, Kywyn presents a colder demeanor, apathetic yet menacing, wondering if he has a chance of throwing Ran’s timing off through mind games. The lithe man’s eyes finally engage the target, and Kywyn takes a long stride forward to a pair of stumps bordering Ran’s. With a low stance spread over the two trunks, Kywyn winds his center away before twisting forward with a snaking punch.

He follows with a feint with his forward hand and roundhouse kick from the same side, seeing if he can open up Ran’s offense and get the monk’s impulses triggered. Kywyn knows not to exchange blows with his competitor but wants to get a volley going so he could attempt to direct the momentum.

In his defensive stance, Ran easily deflects the first attack. His following reaction to the feint nearly opens up his right side for the incoming kick but the monk neatly dodges it by ducking underneath the sorcerer's sweeping leg. He counters with a quick succession of left-hand chops to Kywyn's head, trying to push his opponent backwards without overcommitting again.

.oO(He's very focused, but every bit in control - he's not going to make a mistake, I'll have to win this one on skill alone...)

Kywyn flinches his head back away from the first edge hand, but the series of chops that follows forces Kywyn back onto a stump next to Ran's. Kywyn brushes his forearm across to block another chop as he nears the edge of his tree stump.

Ran continues pressing, but refuses to commit to an all-out offense. The monk prefers to keep up his defenses and wait for one of his attacks to snake through or for Kywyn to slip up. He interweaves blows with both fists and feet, trying to make the pattern of attacks unreadable for his opponent.

.oO(He might be trying to lure me into overextending, or he might have a problem with keeping up both a strong defense and an effective offense - either way, I should keep following this strategy.)

Kywyn parries the potent kicks with hooking arms and raised shins but prefers to bound away rather than deal with the hand attacks. He lands one stump back and ricochets to another stump to Ran's left with a low hiss.

"Varying his pattern..."

From this position, Kywyn jumps at Ran, aiming to land on the trunk in front of the elf but not before launching a leaping leg attack with an outstretched heel.

Ran has to throw up both arms and almost has to take a half-step back to block the leaping kick, but refuses to relinquish ground - ground he doesn't have anyway, since falling off the tree stump would mean defeat. He follows Kywyn's example and jumps sideways to the closest trunk on his right rather than back to keep as much pressure as possible on his opponent, aiming two hard and low kicks at the sorcerer's legs followed by a reckless jump in the air for a roundhouse kick at head height. The landing is precarious, but the elf stays upright and preserves his equilibrium.

.oO(I'm letting him tempt me into risking everything on a strong offense again - I should control myself and wait for a mistake to profit from.)

Kywyn twirls to keep sight of his swift target. The first of Ran's kicks catches him off guard, and Kywyn barely saves himself from being nailed by shifting back. He jump in place when the second kick enters his range, trying to scissor-trap Ran's foot with his armored shins.

Before Kywyn can make contact though, Ran is already in the air. Kywyn manages to raise both arms to receive the kick, but the sheer force blows Kywyn back in a fifteen foot arc. If he were not already in mid-air, the attack would surely have knocked Kywyn over.

Seeing the ground speed under him in slow motion, Kywyn turns to seek the nearest landing spot.

He sets down crouched on a particularly thin stump.

The first fiery rays of the sun catch Kywyn's attention.

"Nice landing..."

Ran is impressed with Kywyn's agile maneuver. Noticing the sun about to come up, he jumps from tree stump to tree stump to position himself between the sorcerer and the brightening light before launching his next attack. The monk feints a straightforward full body blow to push Kywyn off his precarious position, but ducks low at the last moment to try a low leg sweep hoping the rays of the sun behind him will catch his opponent's eyes and distract him long enough to provoke a fatal mistake.

From his lowered stance, Kywyn keeps himself atop the pole with both his hands and one foot. The other leg hooks aroung the stump to provide an anchor.

When Ran comes in for the punch, Kywyn squints through the waxing light of the morning sun and stays absolutely still for a moment. Kywyn starts to shift his weight forward, thinking to counter the seemingly high attack with a jabbing strike.

His stare widens slightly as he spots the blur of Ran's foot coming in low. Kywyn takes off with a Lunatic's Frog Leap as his resting spot explodes into splinters.

As Kywyn reaches the apex of his jump, the thought that there may not be a suitable landing spot enters his mind.

"Damn..."

The only place he had a chance of reaching is the stump on which Ran currently stands. Kywyn turns his hips and aims to set his foot down, wondering if they could both stand and continue on a single trunk.

Ran isn't prepared for Kywyn's evasive maneuver - at least not for him to end up so close. The only solution left for the monk is to plant his hands underneath him on the tree stump and let his spin carry him to a handstand so he can catch the sorcerer's landing on his feet and kick out to send him spinning away.

"What?" Kywyn wonders in disbelief.

The soles of his boots touch down with the bottoms of Ran's rising feet. For a split second, the two form a bizarre mirror image.

Kywyn feels himself forced back upward. With no where left to land, Kywyn lets himself come straight down next to Ran's stump. The human reaches out in a last ditch attempt to latch onto something. He feels the roughness of cloth slip between his fingers and lands firmly with bent knees.

Ran seems taller than normal to Kywyn, and it takes a second for him to recognize he did not manage to land on the trunk. He looks down to see his feet on the grass a foot away.

"Nice move."

Kywyn nods as the sun crests over the horizon, silhouetting the two in intense orange light.

Ran finishes his move by flipping back to his feet, nearly stumbling as he lands awkwardly.

"That was certainly new..."

He steps down and bows towards Kywyn, breathing just a bit faster than normal.

"Thank you. You have taught me much today. Your skill is impressive, particularly for one who has not had the benefit of many years of rigorous training."

Kywyn takes a minute to catch his breath, though he hides his fatigue well enough.

"Same here," Kywyn answers, "And your technique..."

He walks over to the splintered thin stump.

"Is more than a little frightening."

"We should head back," Kywyn picks up his satchel and throws the strap over his head.

Ran nods, taking in the rays of the now fast-rising sun.

"You're right. I'm sure Hermy will want to leave as soon as he's done entertaining the local children. Let's go."

He picks up his discarded overshirt and puts it on again, smoothing most of the wrinkles out of his attire, and walks back to the village center, next to Kywyn.
