The shrine is in a cavern in the mountains north and east of Garic's City. |
| #2taggiivApr 11, 2004 14:05:18 | {from LLI} Tagg leads Brie towards the main door entrance and bids him to stay there while he goes inside for a few moments "Tampaya." He takes a swift look around to note that no stable boys were around to see him leave the donkey there, then heads inside. He tries his best to look over the heads occupying the establishment to pick out his friends, doing so but without ease. He approaches Aramil and Boirin and takes a seat, positioning his shoulders so the hilt of his scimitar doesn't dig into his back. | #3zombiegleemaxApr 12, 2004 13:15:36 | Originally posted by Aramil Dunskar and Boirin son of Naerin *Aramil stracthes his beard some. Then he looks at both Boirin and Tagg. "Ulerian ye say, hrm..... Well I think he will be trustworthy enough I hope, just keep a close eye on him if ye have ter. Now I bettin' that he's already waiting for us at the gate to Garics instead of comming here. So lets go meet up with him!" *Aramil tells the bartender that if Ulerian does happen to show up tell him to go to the Gate of Garics a.s.a.p., then Aramil bows to the bartender and heads out of the LLI leading Tagg and Boirin towards the gate. |
| #4zombiegleemaxApr 12, 2004 14:15:16 | Boirin drains his mug in one shot, sets a coin on the table, then sets the mug over it. He then grabs his pack and follows Aramil out the door of the inn and down the street to the gate. As they walk he begins to wistle a classic dwarven drinking song. Its lyrics when sung, are about a dwarf maiden who decapitates an outrageous number goblins. |
| #5taggiivApr 12, 2004 15:21:09 | When they leave the inn, Tagg quickly takes Brie by the front of his saddle and leads him with the other two. He raises an eyebrow at Boirin singing in Dwarven, but refrains from commenting. Tagg and the donkey follow Boirin and Aramil, Brie's plodding hooves providing a nice rhythm to their walking pace. |
| #6zombiegleemaxApr 12, 2004 15:24:48 | *Aramil casually makes his way towards the front gate of GsC. He joins in with Boirin and whistles the dwarven song with him. He makes his way eventually to the front gate to the city and looks around to see if he can see Ulerian waiting there. (ooc: btw Tagg, Boirin wasn't singing the song he was whistling it. ;) ) |
| #7zombiegleemaxApr 12, 2004 15:44:33 | Boirin can't help smiling when through his wistling as they walk. When they get to the gates he quiets his wistling as they look around for the mage, Ulerian. .oO(It's been a while since I have been able to spout parts of The Bonny Lass with a Big Ole Axe and accually have someone recognize it. Maybe I should spend more time with dwarves...) Boirin's thoughts trail off as he thinks to himself, and looks around for Ulerian. |
| #8zombiegleemaxApr 12, 2004 18:22:45 | Ulerian shuffles up finally muttering soft curses under his breath "I am sorry for being so late. Please lead on master dwarf." |
| #9taggiivApr 12, 2004 19:30:27 | When they pause at the gate, Tagg turns around and keeps his eyes open for Ulerian. The mage fills his vision eventually, and when he approaches the elf greets him. "Hello, Ulerian." Next he turns to Aramil. "So, where exactly are we headed?" |
| #10zombiegleemaxApr 12, 2004 21:37:46 | *Aramil bows his head. "Ye don't need ter call me master dwarf Ulerian, Aramil will suffice. ;) And here let me show you:" *Aramil takes out his map and shows to the group where they are headed, then he goes up to the guards and requests them to open the gates, they ask where they intend to go and Aramil shows them, they nod then one of the guard yells up to the other on the top of the gate to switch the level that will swing the doors wide open. Aramil bows and then leads the companions off to begin their quest. |
| #11zombiegleemaxApr 13, 2004 20:50:06 | After a day of tramping along the northbound road that follows the river, the group comes to the branch of the Trillium River that leads eastward up into the foothills. There is a ford here for those continuing north, but the track along the Trillium is well-marked. The dwarven quarry makes use of that road, getting ore down to the main river where the barges collect it, but the Trillium itself is not navigable. |
| #12zombiegleemaxApr 14, 2004 14:03:07 | *Aramil smiles and turns to the rest of group. "Well here is where we turn to head towards the cave, so lets go afore the sun goes down." *Aramil goes off to the path that is marked on the map, he gets it out occassionally just to make sure that he is following the same direction that Hegnus told him to go, satisfied he puts it away and leads his companions ahead to go to the cave. |
| #13zombiegleemaxApr 14, 2004 17:20:11 | "Sounds fine to me." Boirin says as he follows Aramil down the path. |
| #14taggiivApr 14, 2004 19:35:50 | The ranger takes a bit to look around at the new surroundings, then, after making mental notes of things, turns to Aramil. "Carry on." Tagg stops a moment to adjust a pack on Brie's back, then walks after Aramil and wherever the dwarf leads. |
| #15zombiegleemaxApr 15, 2004 7:33:09 | "How far is your shrine Aramil?" Ulerian asks as he follows along with his pipe smoking |
| #16zombiegleemaxApr 15, 2004 10:25:45 | As the group hikes along up the steep road, occasionally dampened by mist blowing off the frigid river on their left, the setting sun draws their shadows long before them. If all goes well, Aramil estimates they should reach the quarry by full dark. Rounding a curve, Tagg, Boirin and Ulerian hear an animal grunting ahead of them, and a branch snapping off to their right. The drop-off to the river on their left is steep, and the vegetation on the right-hand side of the road is quite thick. |
| #17zombiegleemaxApr 15, 2004 11:10:10 | Ulerian stops and places his hand on Aramils shoulder. He puts one finger to his lips giving the universal 'shhhh' sign. He nods to the other two. |
| #18zombiegleemaxApr 15, 2004 14:07:25 | *Aramil nods to Ulerian, he points his finger to the brush to the other side of the road and he starts going off in that direction trying to be as quiet as a dwarf can. |
| #19taggiivApr 15, 2004 16:46:05 | Reflexively as he hears the noise Tagg's hand runs to the sword on his hip and draws it out halfway from the sheathe. Watching Ulerian and Aramil act, he silently draws the blade out the rest of the way. [use following if the vegetation is high enough to provide cover, and if it isnt too thick to make travel through it impossible or close to it, or to be able to see through it]Tagg slips into the brush and advances as quietly as he can towards the noise, keeping his head low and trying to have the vegetation keep his presence unknown visibly as well. (Move Silently and if applicable Hide) [use following if vegetation cannot be used as it was above]Tagg begins to walk down the path around the vegetation quietly towards the source of the noise.(Move Silently) |
| #20zombiegleemaxApr 15, 2004 18:59:47 | Boirin draws crossbow and loads, he follows behind Tagg, emulating his movements, moving quietly and hoping not be noticed. [Quick draw crossbow and load, Move Silently +9, Hide +8] |
| #21zombiegleemaxApr 15, 2004 19:41:23 | *Aramil silently draws out his axe and shield and awaits the return of Tagg and Boirin, since he knows he will not be able to be as quiet as them, and will probably get them into more trouble then need be. |
| #22zombiegleemaxApr 15, 2004 20:14:31 | Tagg and Boirin move off the road, southwards into the brush. Almost immediately they vanish from sight and hearing, moving about stealthily. Time passes, while Ulerian and Aramil wait with the donkey. Tagg and Boirin are unable to locate the source of the noise they heard before. |
| #23zombiegleemaxApr 15, 2004 22:16:36 | Boirin moves close to Tagg and wispers quietly into his pointed ears. "I see and hear nothing, I would suggest that we head back to our companions unless your elf-eyes see what I can't, and your elf-ears hear something that I can't." |
| #24taggiivApr 15, 2004 22:40:49 | Tagg puts his sword back in its holster. "Nay, I cannot hear or see anything either." He begins to walk back towards Ulerian, Aramil, and Brie to deliver the news. When he comes back out to them he gives them the report. "We cannot find any sign of what might have made that noise.." |
| #25zombiegleemaxApr 16, 2004 12:23:03 | "Perhaps we should continue but with a little caution.." Ulerian follows as soon as the others moveout |
| #26zombiegleemaxApr 16, 2004 16:56:07 | *Aramil nods his head. "Yes, Ulerian, I would suggest you would prepare some type of attack spell or support spell, Tagg I would like ye in the rear and keep a close lookout back there, Boirin, I would like ye to protect Ulerian while he may be casting spells and also keepign a close lookout. I will take the lead since I know were we need ter end up? One more thing, I suggest taking out your weapons from this point forward." *Aramil heads out of the brush and waits for the others to fall into formation, once they have done so Aramil starts to head towards the quarry but at a slower pace and more caution. |
| #27zombiegleemaxApr 16, 2004 17:49:08 | Aramil shepherds his group on up the road, rounding a sharp bend, only to find his way blocked by an enormous badger, saddled, and being ridden by a javelin-wielding goblin. "You have to pay my toll to pass here!" Tagg realises they are being followed, and chancing a look discovers a goblin, armed with a shortbow, fifteen feet behind them on the road. |
| #28zombiegleemaxApr 16, 2004 18:17:10 | Boirin curses and pulls up crossbow, he places a bead on the goblin on the badger and waits for them to move. [OoC: Ready attack versus approach] |
| #29taggiivApr 16, 2004 18:24:23 | Well there's what made the grunting noise before... After looking over his shoulder to the goblin he analyzes it for a moment before swiftly drawing his own bow, bringing an arrow to the string and turning around. Spending little time to take careful aim at such a close range, he looses the missile, he hopes, before the goblin behind them gets a chance to attack them. {draw comp. shortbow, attack the goblin behind us that is wielding the bow} |
| #30zombiegleemaxApr 16, 2004 19:54:31 | Prepared though he is to shoot, the goblin behind them on the road is holding his fire. "Pay the toll now, you morons! 20 gold each, or my mount will feast on your livers tonight!" demands the mounted goblin, as he shakes a javelin at them. Initiative:
|
| #31zombiegleemaxApr 17, 2004 16:45:41 | .oO(Great just when I got rid of the other dude who loved badgers now comes this guy.......) *Aramil smirks at his new opponent. "I've fought worse" Aramil mumbles under his breath. *Without looking behind him he whispers to him and to the rest of the group. "Ulerian I suggest ye get yer spell ready ter cast, it would be useful right about now. Tagg I hope ye can take care of that goblin back there. Boirin, concentrate yer fire on the main guy, help Tagg if he needs it, now when I give the signal start fireing at him." *Aramil continues to glare at the 'tax collector', he yells out to him. "Ter bad fer ye that I don't want ter pay yer stupid tax. Now I'll give ye a chance ter move outa the way afore my axe goes right in yer skull!" |
| #32taggiivApr 17, 2004 17:17:49 | well considering how the arrow i role-played firing up there didnt get fired, allow me to rewind. *stuff rewinds* "Aye cap'n, I can drop him afore he moves.." Tagg says under his breath when Aramil leans in to talk to them. He has his left hand touching the hilt of the sword and his other hand in position to quickly snatch up his scimitar. The elf keeps his eyes glued on the archer behind them, watching carefully for signs of movement from the goblin. |
| #33zombiegleemaxApr 18, 2004 11:52:36 | Ulerian walks to behind Aramil. "We will pay no such toll, especially under threat of arms" {Withhold action, will cast Color Spray if the Gobo engages} |
| #34zombiegleemaxApr 18, 2004 12:37:02 | "I claimed this road, and you'll pay my toll, or I'll take it from your dead bodies!" the goblin snarls. "Now pay up or prepare to die!" The badger snorts and shifts, crouching as it prepares to charge. |
| #35zombiegleemaxApr 18, 2004 19:54:22 | "You first!" Boirin turns on the mounted goblin firing at the rider, aiming for any vital area that he may hit. [OoC: Attack action vs. Monted Gobo, hoping for SA] |
| #36zombiegleemaxApr 18, 2004 21:08:16 | *Aramil sees that the badger is ready to charge so Aramil decides that he'll charge instead. "Alright then its time fer ye ter die goblin, now everyone do as I told ye to!" *With that he charges at the Goblin rider hoping that Ulerian and Boirin will provide him with some cover. (Ready action against charge with my axe.) |
| #37zombiegleemaxApr 18, 2004 22:21:30 | As Aramil throws his weight forward to charge, the Goblin rider flings the javelin he'd been holding ready. It arcs down, piercing Aramil, but doing little in the way of damage, thanks to the dwarf's armor. Aramil is unfazed, and hacks deeply into the goblin. A moment later, one of Boirin's bolts is sticking from the goblin's hide. Initiative and HP standings: Archer Ulerian 8/8 Mounted Goblin: Injured Aramil 60/59 +3 subdual Boirin 20/20 Tagg 26/26 |
| #38taggiivApr 18, 2004 22:31:32 | As Aramil begins his assault and Boirin takes the shot, in a flash Tagg has both of his blades in his hands. As quickly as he can he begins running towards the archer, both swords ready to dig into the filthy beast as soon as they get in range. [ooc- draw scimitar and shortsword, charge the archer goblin] |
| #39zombiegleemaxApr 18, 2004 23:05:04 | Ulerian, ready for an attack by the mounted goblin, lets loose his spray of flashing lights. The badger is unfazed, but the goblin reels, stunned, in his saddle. Tagg charges at the goblin archer behind the group, slicing into him with his scimitar as he moves past. The archer drops his bow, yanks his morningstar from his belt, and wallops Tagg. An arrow flies out from the overgrown slope on the south side of the road, missing Aramil. Initiative and HP standings: Archer Other Archer Mounted Goblin: Injured & stunned Ulerian 8/8 Aramil 60/59 +3 subdual Boirin 20/20 Tagg 26/24 +1 subdual |
| #40zombiegleemaxApr 19, 2004 8:02:36 | Boirin going to one knee, draws a bolt from his quiver, loads his crossbow, takes aim at the goblin once more and fires at the mounted goblin. [OoC:Reload crossbow, attack action vs. gobblion on badger] |
| #41zombiegleemaxApr 19, 2004 14:12:20 | "Ambush!" Ulerian casts a spell and a small ice crystal leaps from his hand at the badger [Casts Ray of Frost at the badger} |
| #42zombiegleemaxApr 19, 2004 14:12:41 | *Aramil smirks and silently thanks Ulerian for the useful spell. He raises his axe up high and brings it raining down upon the frozen and probably terrified goblin. He smirks and enjoys killing the stupid thing all the better. But Aramil doesn't forget the other archer that just fired an arrow at him. "Boirin take care of the other archer will ye?" (If I can do a Coup de Grace attack I don't know if the goblin would be considered applicable for that attack. If not then: +12/+7 melee, d10+5, 20x3, slashing.) |
| #43zombiegleemaxApr 19, 2004 14:46:53 | The badger turns, growling, clawing and biting at Aramil. He seems confused by his rider's immobility, and his attacks all miss. Ulerian sends out his ice ray, hitting the animal squarely in the face. Aramil launches his own attack, finishing off the stunned goblin. Boirin, since the goblin is dead, you may change your action. |
| #44taggiivApr 19, 2004 15:55:09 | Tagg quickly bounces back from the morningstar attack and retaliates, striking at the goblin with both blades. {ooc- atk w/ short sword + scimitar} |
| #45zombiegleemaxApr 19, 2004 16:30:48 | [Oops, make that shooting at badger] |
| #46zombiegleemaxApr 19, 2004 19:24:12 | Boirin shoots at the badger, enjoying the thrill of a perfect shot. The overgrown beast roars in fury, turning its full attention on Boirin. Tagg attacks the archer, missing both times. The archer in return hits Tagg with his morningstar, while the goblin shooting from the hillside again misses Aramil. Initiative and HP standings: Archer Other Archer Mounted Goblin: Dead Ulerian 8/8 Aramil 60/59 +3 subdual Boirin 20/20 Tagg 26/21 +2 subdual |
| #47zombiegleemaxApr 19, 2004 19:24:39 | *Aramil smiles widly as he feels the axe being imbeded into the goblin. He ripes it forth from the goblin blood flying over Aramil's armor who only smiles even wider and then he says in his own tongue: [dwarven]"One fer me new axe, lets get the second!"[/dwarven] *Aramil eyes rest on the badger, he unleashes his wrath upon the hamster in hopes of scoring a second kill. [+12/+7 melee, 1d10+5, 20x3, Slashing.] |
| #48zombiegleemaxApr 19, 2004 19:30:36 | Ulerian prepares another spell, and looks for a target among the brush, the other archer. [Casts Ray of Frost, with holds spell until he sees the other archer] "No Borin, leave the beast to Aramil, we need to locate the hidden archer.."he adds smoothly as he is studying the bushes |
| #49taggiivApr 19, 2004 19:54:37 | Tagg grunts with frustration as he takes another hit, and drops the short sword to the ground. Focusing his strength on the scimitar, he brings it back with both hands and takes a slash a the goblin. {drop short sword, use scimitar 2 handed for x1.5 str to damage} |
| #50zombiegleemaxApr 19, 2004 20:00:16 | Boirin nods at Ulerian's suggestion, and reloads his crossbow. He hopes to spot the hidden goblin and fire [OoC: Spot check for gobber fire if possible] |
| #51zombiegleemaxApr 19, 2004 21:48:02 | The badger, nearly as long as a human man is tall, unleashes his fury upon Boirin. Clawed and bitten, Boirin is grievously injured. Aramil steps up with his axe, managing to strike it once, but it does not fall. Ulerian, ready with his spell, sees the archer. Sending out the beam of ice, he unfortunately misses. Boirin is unable to see the hiding archer, but then again he's also being chewed on by a giant badger. Tagg, not beset by overgrown badgers, concentrates on the goblin he is fighting, and takes him down with his strike. The goblin lies helpless, clinging to life. The archer on the hill shoots again at Aramil, and misses, yet again. Initiative and HP standings: Archer: Down Other Archer Mounted Goblin: Dead Badger: Injured Ulerian 8/8 Aramil 60/59 +3 subdual Boirin 20/4 +3 subdual Tagg 26/21 +2 subdual |
| #52taggiivApr 19, 2004 22:06:36 | Tagg, taking little note to the goblin after he falls to the ground, puts the scimitar back in its sheathe. He takes out his bow and nocks an arrow to it. Searching for the other archer with his eyes, he takes the shot when he locates it. {ooc- put away scimitar, draw comp. shortbow, and assuming i am able to see the remaining archer (if not, make a spot check please), attack it with the bow} |
| #53zombiegleemaxApr 20, 2004 9:04:43 | Boirin cries out in agony, and his only thought for the moment is to get away, he jumps backwards into a backward roll. If he gets away allright then Boirin fires [ move back ten feet, tumble +11 to avoid aoo, if successful then attack vs. badger] |
| #54zombiegleemaxApr 20, 2004 9:48:05 | Yes, this is a little confusing. I figure Boirin meant to tumble away as soon as he was mauled, so I'm putting that as his previous action. Boirin flings himself away from the enraged badger, rolling back in the road, towards Tagg. He fires off his crossbow in the general direction of the badger, and luckily does not hit Ulerian or Aramil. The badger's attention is caught by Aramil's axe, and he turns on the dwarf, clawing him once. | #55zombiegleemaxApr 20, 2004 9:51:57 | Ulerians steps back and casts a spell. His hand shimmers with energy as he keeps his distance from the furious monster. "Tagg, this threat is a little closer.." [5' move away from creature, Casts Shocking Grasp, withholds attack until the badger either gives up an AoO, or it attacks me] |
| #56zombiegleemaxApr 20, 2004 14:02:29 | *Aramil sees that badger attack Boirin furiously and Boirin getting pretty beat up. So he fury increases every time he attacks the badger. .oO(I must protect these guys else I will fail.) *Aramil roars with primal fury and attacks the badger again and again. (+12/+7 melee, 1d10+5, 20x3, Slashing) |
| #57zombiegleemaxApr 20, 2004 15:04:06 | Aramil manages to connect with one wild swing, and the badger teeters, then collapses, blood draining from its wounds. |
| #58taggiivApr 20, 2004 15:50:42 | "Ehr.. right," Tagg brings the bow's aim to the badger and starts to line up a shot through his companions, but stops as he sees Aramil put it down. He looks around a bit more for the second archer, and gives an "ugh" when he fails to spot it. "Boirin, if you feel alright, try to shoot down that other archer!" He turns his focus to the goblin dying at his feet. Meh.. might be worth to try getting some information out of the trashbag before killin' it.. He kneels down next to it, setting the bow down. Drawing a knife he slowly starts to move it towards the goblins throat. "Are there any more in your band?" He grabs the goblin by its shoulder and brings the dagger's blade closer until the steel touches its skin. {drop bow, draw dagger, +5 untrained Intimidate [+1 Cha +4 size difference]} |
| #59zombiegleemaxApr 20, 2004 16:22:44 | Tagg attempts to question the captive, but quickly determines that the goblin's unconsciousness will make it a difficult proposition. Meanwhile, another arrow arcs down at Aramil, missing yet again. |
| #60zombiegleemaxApr 20, 2004 17:08:23 | *Aramil can't savor the victory yet again for yet another arrow tries to pierce him. He roars out again and looks for where the archer is shooting from when he sees it he runs over to it and tries to take it down. (Spot +0, charge action, +14 melee, 1d10+5, 20x3, AC 19 against archer) |
| #61zombiegleemaxApr 20, 2004 19:25:49 | Boirin reloads and fires at the goblin archer. [attack goblin archer +6] |
| #62taggiivApr 20, 2004 21:45:06 | {lmao, unconscious.. whoops.. its times like these that make me feel like an ass :p time to try my best to save the situation -_-} Seeing the goblin unable to talk, he plunges the dagger through its throat. Leaving it there to staunch the majority of the blood from pouring out, he stands up, picking up his short sword and bow as he does so, and returning the blade to its sheathe. {ooc- coup de grace, assume i stand up and stuff next round} |
| #63zombiegleemaxApr 22, 2004 9:15:36 | As Aramil attempts to pursue the goblin, he finds it impossible to run through the heavy plant growth, especially on a steep uphill slope. Boirin aims after the fleeing goblin, catching glimpses of it through the brush and trees. He hears a yelp following his parting shot, and knows that he has at least injured the remaining goblin. |
| #64zombiegleemaxApr 22, 2004 16:27:22 | *Aramils get mad at the fact that he can't get up there, so he decides that he'll let Boirin and Tagg take the Goblin down. He goes over to the Goblin who was riding the hamster and searches through his posessions to see if he had anything of value. .oO(Durned goblins......) |
| #65zombiegleemaxApr 23, 2004 7:24:30 | Ulerian stands very still with his eyes closed. "Don't tarry to long, there may be more. Borin looks greivously wounded as well, we should find a place to rest before dark." |
| #66zombiegleemaxApr 23, 2004 9:31:02 | Boirin reloads and tries to see if he can notice the goblin still. If he can he fires. "We could track it, cause its probally bleeding from the bolt I stuck in it. But..." Boirin spits and spatters blood on the ground. He relizes his mouth is full of it. "...I probally can't take another hit like that, and we don't know how many badgers dey got." As he speaks his voice begins to slowly fade into a mild orcish accent. He looks down at the claw marks that go through his armor and into his flesh "Bloody hells this hurts." |
| #67zombiegleemaxApr 23, 2004 10:04:07 | Searching the body of the goblin, Aramil finds a pouch of coins (63 copper, 38 silver, 22 gold,) and four potion vials, in addition to the leather armor, small steel shield and four javelins, all of excellent make. The morningstar is more ordinary, and the saddle on the badger could be useful to another badger-rider. What is found on the other goblin is more armor of fine manufacture, ordinary shield and morningstar, a shortbow and arrows, and a vial. Of the arrows, some are nicer than the others, and have a green stripe painted around the shaft. He carried a pouch of coin as well. (3 gold, 23 silver, 27 copper) |
| #68zombiegleemaxApr 23, 2004 14:23:22 | "Agreed. We'll let the little buger go fer now, unless Tagg can see it. But lets round up this stuff and try to even the weight, giving less to Boirin since he is badly wounded, I'll take his load. Oh and Ulerian when we rest I'd like ye ter try and figure out what's in these here 5 vials. And probably figure out if any of these things are magical." *Aramil nods to the group, he divides up the stuff that he wants to take into four piles, he picks up two and places them neatly in his bag, then he tells Ulerian and Tagg to pick a pile. He makes a new formation, ordering Tagg to take the lead while Aramil goes into the middle to help Boirin along and Ulerian in the back to keep a watchout. He tells Tagg to try and find a resting place for all of them. [Here is what we are taking:] |
| #69taggiivApr 23, 2004 15:25:16 | "I can't see it, but he might be going to get more help. I would suggest simply getting out of here and resting somewhere a ways away from here." Noting Aramil counting up the copper coins, he adds, "I'd say leave all that copper, I doubt its worth even one gold piece and 'twill simply be more to carry." Tagg cleans off his weapons on the grass and puts them back into their sheathes. Then he approaches the slain goblin and pulls the dagger from its throat and wipes it off on its body before returning it to the belt on its chest. He flips the goblin's body over with his foot so the gaping hole in its neck isn't immediately visible. He then approaches Brie, who is, he notes, unharmed. He pets it on the head and gives it a little food. "You guys stay here for a moment, I'm going to go scout out the land around here for somewhere we can stay." He takes a look at Boirin before leaving. "Boirin, I can take a look at those cuts once we get settled." Tagg walks away from the group, keeping his eyes open for suitable shelter as he explores deeper into the woods. (i think thats what we're in?) |
| #70zombiegleemaxApr 25, 2004 18:15:53 | Boirin plops down on the ground waiting for thre ranger to return. He pulls out his flask and takes a swig. He then leans against a near by rock closes his eyes in pain. |
| #71zombiegleemaxApr 25, 2004 18:53:46 | The steep ground of the immediate surroundings precludes comfortable camping, but Tagg finds a decent place not too far away, about a half-hour walk further up the road. The tumbling waters of the Trillium yield some fat trouts for their dinner. |
| #72zombiegleemaxApr 25, 2004 20:54:47 | *As Aramil and the group settles down for the night Aramil notices that Ulerian decided to catch a couple of fish for dinner, Tagg supervising even though he is also tending to Boirins wounds. Aramil never really had fish before, so he waits to see what there taste like. After dinner is done Aramil decides that he would ask Volos to start getting fish once in a while to cook for dinner. .oO(Man I never knew a fish could be so apatizing!) *When Aramil finally gets full he tells everyone that they will be taking watches seperatly, Ulerian going first since he will need sleep for his spells, then Boirin, Tagg, and finally Aramil. With that done he bids the others a good night then goes over to his bedroll and falls asleep. |
| #73taggiivApr 25, 2004 21:16:46 | After gathering the fish, Tagg heads back to the group to report the site he found. Once he leads the rest of the party to it, his first priority is dressing Boirin's wounds. He then gathers some dead wood from the surrounding forest and makes it suitable for a small cookfire, and lights it up easily using a flint and steel. After discarding unusable parts of the fish with his dagger while the fire starts up, he chars up the trout over the flame. "Aye.. they're ready. It's not like Maelut's food, but it shouldn't make anyone keel over." Serving the charred fish pieces, he eats his share, noting Aramil's pleasure satisfiably, though he knows the dwarf isn't picky when it comes to food. Tagg washes his knife and hands in the river where he found the trouts, then spends the rest of the evening trying to tend to Boirin and keep his pain minimal. As the sun sets, he gives Brie the rest of the bag of feed he open earlier, takes the bedroll off of the donkey's back, pets him for a couple minutes, then spreads out the bed. After the busy evening for the ranger, Tagg slips into his trance almost immediately as he lays down. {ooc- Heal +4 (long term care) on Boirin} |
| #74zombiegleemaxApr 25, 2004 22:00:38 | Tagg's excellent care of Boirin helps him to fall into a restful and healing sleep. After a full night's rest, he feels able to travel, though he is not fully recovered. Boirin recovers 8 hp. 23 Heal check for Tagg -- woohoo! ![]() |
| #75zombiegleemaxApr 26, 2004 8:06:17 | Boirin eats and rests quietly. In the morning he seams to be mostly back to himself and wakes a little early to test his stretchs. |
| #76zombiegleemaxApr 26, 2004 8:52:56 | Borin is awoken for his watch by a hand on his shoulder. Ulerian settles in for much needed sleep. He awakes in the morning, and sits quietly studying his book, until the group is read to sert out. |
| #77zombiegleemaxApr 26, 2004 20:21:00 | *Aramil wakes up and looks at Tagg squarly in the face, Tagg tells him that it is his turn for the watch, Aramil sighs, gets up stretches, and then takes his watch. Around the time for breakfast he decides that he'll try to catch a couple fish for breakfast. Not really having any success he goes and gets Tagg up to get some fish for the group. After the fish have been cooked and eaten they pack up camp and head out for the next leg of their adventure. .oO(One leg of the adventure, the next and hopefully more exciting is next!) |
| #78zombiegleemaxApr 26, 2004 20:54:10 | As Boirin eases into his day, he finds himself less stiff and sore than he expected. He is still not fully recovered, but he is much more confident of his ability to travel today. Boirin is at 17hp. |
| #79taggiivApr 26, 2004 22:18:51 | Tagg over the course of their resting nights volunteers to take two watch shifts, seeing as how he gets up much earlier than the rest. He spends some time in the silence of the night practicing with his weapons, doing so a bit away from the rest of the group to avoid disturbing their rest. He spends most of his time properly standing over the party, though, but standing still can get quite boring. The next morning {current} he begins gathering up any equipment laying around. "Glad to see you're looking a bit better, Boirin." He then turns to Aramil. "Assuming no objections from the others, I think we can start heading towards the shrine once more." |
| #80zombiegleemaxApr 27, 2004 1:22:51 | Exactly as promised by their map, only a couple more hours of travel sees the group at the dwarven quarry. A well-organized and highly efficient place, they are immediately approached as to their names and intent. |
| #81zombiegleemaxApr 27, 2004 14:14:19 | (ooc: I assume these are dwarves that approach us?) *Aramil bows to the guards as they approach the group. Then he tells them. "I am Aramil Dunskar of the SSAG, this is Tagg a very fine ranger, Next we have Boirin a good fighter when it comes ter it and an even better ranged fighter, lastly we have Ulerian who is a fine mage. We are traveling ter the shrine near here that has been abandoned for some time due ter a creature who has appeared and ran all of the dwarves out. We came here to undo what the creature has done, or in other words kill the durned thing." *Aramil waits in silence to see what the guards will do, he has a hand on his axe and the other ready to get his shield, just incase. |
| #82zombiegleemaxApr 28, 2004 9:42:23 | The dwarf that approached the group hooks his thumbs through his belt, rocking back on his heels a bit as he considers Aramil's speech. "Mind telling us the name of the shrine? Sorry, but I need some proof of your intent. Who sent you, anyway?" He glances over the other members of the group. |
| #83zombiegleemaxApr 28, 2004 16:35:51 | *Aramil tries to rack his brain for the name of the shrine, but in the end he couldn't remember mainly because Hegnus forgot to mention it. "I don't know the name, but I do know that it was a shrine ter Agathalos, and Hegnus told me ter get the monster out of there. So can we get it?" *Aramil again waits silently to see the guards responce. |
| #84zombiegleemaxApr 28, 2004 18:27:19 | When the party approaches the dwarves. Boirin takes off his dwarven-style half-helm and polishes it on his sleeve and returns it to his head. He then rests his hand easily on his shortsword but he lets his hand reveal the faint imprint on the base of the hilt of an Ironmug foundry. He trys to manage an apperiance of being ready to move at any moment while still seaming relaxed at the moment. He smiles his quiet respectfull smile he learned to use on the elders. In fact he trys to appear as dwarfy as he can at his almost six feet. |
| #85zombiegleemaxApr 28, 2004 20:26:47 | The dwarf does not seem to notice Boirin's gear. His eyes narrow, and his expression becomes hard, at Aramil's reply. "We've no shrine of Agathalos that needs cleansing." This is a diplomatically sensitive situation. When Aramil was recruited, I attempted to convey the delicacy of the task. These dwarves were hesitant to bring in outside help. They aren't going to be overly trusting, especially when the outside help doesn't have the correct answers. |
| #86zombiegleemaxApr 29, 2004 8:03:12 | "Hay Aramil didn't you say a shrine of Odermetrix before? The rough activities of the day must have pushed it from your mind. We were ambuished by goblins yesterday. However, we are still here to cleanse your shrine." [OoC: Diplomacy, Untrained +4 (+2 Chr, +2 Synergy)]] |
| #87zombiegleemaxApr 29, 2004 8:46:17 | "Borin you are missing what these good dwarves are saying. They have a shrine to Thalos, and it needs liberating from something, but they don't want outside help. To proud for that I would imagine." Ulerian turns to the speaker dwarf "Why not let us at least see what it is that troubles your people. Perhaps one of us has seen such a creature, and may give knowledge that will ease the struggle against it." |
| #88zombiegleemaxApr 29, 2004 18:35:12 | Boirin whispers quietly in Ulerian's ear with more than a touch of anger. "And you call me a fool mage, it is a shrine of Odermetrix, so unless you have something accurate to say, keep your tounge in your mouth and let me do the talking." Back at a normal voice he speaks again to the dwarves. [dwarven]"Please ignore my ignorent friend. He to must be traumatized by the fighting. He knows not of what he speaks."[/dwarven] |
| #89zombiegleemaxApr 29, 2004 19:52:34 | *Aramil tries hard not to rolls his eyes or get made at his companions. Instead he waits to see the guards reaction after Ulerian and Boirin spoke. .oO(I can tell this is going over great...... ) |
| #90zombiegleemaxApr 29, 2004 21:07:57 | His stance relaxing slightly, the dwarf nods to Boirin, eyeing him, glance falling on the smithy stamp of his hilt. [dwarven]Perhaps... Well, you're well-spoken enough. What's yer name? Boirin...?[/dwarven] |
| #91zombiegleemaxApr 29, 2004 21:16:16 | [dwarven]"Thats what my foster father calls me. I have the honor of calling myself his son, his was named Naerin by his father."[/dwarven] |
| #92zombiegleemaxApr 29, 2004 21:22:18 | The dwarf raises his eyebrows, and nods to Boirin to continue. [dwarven]Go on...[/dwarven] |
| #93zombiegleemaxApr 29, 2004 21:37:08 | Boirin nods and continues. [dwarven]"I came to Garic's City to earn honor for my family. I have completed some quests however, I agreed to come with Master Aramil to help you with your problem, for it seemed that it would be a noble quest. That could earn me much honor, so I accompanied him. As I said before, we were ambuished so we were delayed in coming to you. I hope you will allow us to help you with your problem."[/dwarven] |
| #94zombiegleemaxApr 30, 2004 20:06:42 | *Aramil breathes a sigh of relief. .oO(I need to make a mental note that I own Boirin one.) *Aramil waits until Boirin is done talking when he starts to talk. [dwarven]"Aye, and a friend of mine, of whom I've mentioned before, Hegnus, says it would be greatful if we could take care of the problem. And a thousand apologies me friend for calling it a temple to Agathalos.[/dwarven] *Aramil bows low, his beard touching the ground hopeing that the apologie would be accepted. He stands back up and awaits the word from the guard. |
| #95zombiegleemaxMay 01, 2004 9:32:22 | The quarryman gazes at Boirin, then at Aramil. [dwarven]There're a lot of Hegnus's... I'm one, m'self. Hegnus Oaksplitter.[/dwarven] "Well, c'mon, we'll give you a meal, and talk it over." He gestures them to follow, and leads the group towards the stone buildings on the northwest side of the quarry. |
| #96zombiegleemaxMay 01, 2004 10:29:34 | Boirin nods and follows the dwarves to the quarry. |
| #97taggiivMay 01, 2004 12:36:03 | Tagg stands quietly by as the three negotiate in dwarven, the dwarf's expressions his only way to try and judge how things are going. When the dwarf invites them to a meal, there are plenty of blank spaces in his mind but he keeps them to himself, assuming they will be explained in due time. He bids Brie to follow them and walks along with the rest of the group after Hegnus. |
| #98zombiegleemaxMay 01, 2004 16:27:41 | *Aramil pats Boirin on the back and gives him a smile for all that he has done. He whispers to him before he fallows Hegnus inside. "I owe ye one Boirin." (ooc: Just wondering Sche, did you ever tell me Hegnus's last name? The Hegnus in the city I mean.) |
| #99zombiegleemaxMay 01, 2004 22:15:53 | Hegnus Oaksplitter leads the group to a building that proves to contain a gathering hall. Hot spiced cider is served, and two other dwarves join the group. Yes. On 3-6-04. |
| #100zombiegleemaxMay 02, 2004 9:13:40 | *Aramil takes one of the mugs filled with hot apple sider gladly and then takes a seat near the other dwarves, he waits for the others to get situated before he starts drinking and talking. |
| #101zombiegleemaxMay 02, 2004 21:00:53 | Ulerian joins the group, but keeps to himself. He sips the cider politly, and looks over his spells. |
| #102zombiegleemaxMay 04, 2004 14:45:59 | Ulerian looks up from his tome and to the dwarves. "May I inquire as to what has assailed the shrine??" |
| #103zombiegleemaxMay 04, 2004 19:55:14 | The dwarves glance at each other, then one sighs, swirling the cider in his mug as though the liquid would somehow give up the answer. "Well, we really don't know what it is. It seems to be living in the sacred pool, sort of blends in with the rocks at the bottom, but it came busting out of the water and killed the priestess and two acolytes before anyone could stop it." He shrugs, miserably. "It's pretty fast." |
| #104zombiegleemaxMay 05, 2004 7:42:19 | "Has anyone seen it and can describe it? Anyone alive that is.." Ulerian sits back and packs his pipe. |
| #105zombiegleemaxMay 05, 2004 9:44:41 | "There was an acolyte that managed to get away. He's living in a hut near the cave entrance, with some miners. Don't know how much help he'll be but naturally you can talk to him." |
| #106zombiegleemaxMay 05, 2004 11:16:39 | "It would aid us greatly.. Would you show me to him master dwarf?" |
| #107zombiegleemaxMay 05, 2004 15:11:27 | With some odd glances at Aramil, as if expecting him to speak for the group, Hegnus stands and gestures Ulerian to follow him. "Aye, I'll take you there." |
| #108zombiegleemaxMay 05, 2004 16:01:09 | "I would be very grateful sir." Ulerian rises with a nod to Hegnus and follows him |
| #109zombiegleemaxMay 05, 2004 18:45:19 | (ooc: Sorry for not posting sooner, school..... )*Aramil doesn't really show any emotion when the dwarf looks his way. He gets a bit confused whether or not he should let his companions speak their mind or if he should take the lead. He decides that he'll take the lead with a bit of help from the companions if he's stuck. So he drains his mug sets it down on the table and goes up to Ulerian he quietly wispers to him. "Sorry to say this, but next time we are in a situation like that please allow me to take care of things before we go head first into a situation that we know little about. I would have liked to ask Hegnus some more questions about the location and whatnot afore we left. So please refrain from taking the lead, i'll do that." *Aramil gives Ulerian a smile, and a nod then heads off to follow Hegnus. |
| #110zombiegleemaxMay 05, 2004 19:21:03 | Hegnus grabs a stout oaken walking stick as they leave the hall, then leads the way up a narrow trail that circles around the left side of the quarry. The trail becomes very steep and a bit slippery as they move further north, and Hegnus is breathing hard by the time the stone hut comes into view. He stops to catch his breath, and a call echoes down the trail. "Hegnus Oaksplitter! Praise the Mother... come quickly!" |
| #111taggiivMay 05, 2004 19:52:34 | Tagg listens attentively to the conversation, sipping at his drink occasionally. When they get ready to go, he follows Hegnus with the others. - - - When they come near the stone hut and they hear the call, and Tagg squints over near where the sound came from, trying to make out the scene before they run up to it. {Spot check if possible, +6} |
| #112zombiegleemaxMay 05, 2004 19:58:29 | Peering ahead up the trail, Tagg is able to discern a dwarf standing on the trail. Behind him is the stone hut, and there is a bit of movement inside, obscured by the shadows. |
| #113zombiegleemaxMay 06, 2004 7:48:22 | Ulerian follows along waiting for Hegnus to deliver them to the witness. As they walk he speaks quietly, and very camly with Aramil. "No, I'm afraid your request will not be honored Aramil, but nor do I feel I've 'taken' anything away from you. I will not idly stand by to be called upon when you and our companions are at a loss. I am asking him questions, and they are so we can prepare to do away with this thing without getting destroyed. He is there, ask away, if you have any inquiries worth further exploration, implor them. If not, then let those who have less emotion and more capability for rational thought ask questions.. Do not worry, when the time is right...." Ulerian's harsh words are cut off by the shouts to Hegnus. "I am sorry if my words offend you, I am not here to steal your glory, just to get this done, get what I will be paid, and get back to the Hightower..." |
| #114zombiegleemaxMay 06, 2004 11:42:55 | *Aramil doesn't pay much attention to the rest of Ulerians words after he told him that his request will be denied. When he hears the call for Hengus come he looks up immediatly and grabs his axe and shield. He grips the his axe handle tightly and sets his shield in a good defensive position on his left forearm. Then he runs ahead to see who it is and what is happening. .oO(I knew something was wrong with that Ulerian fellow.....) |
| #115zombiegleemaxMay 06, 2004 13:07:41 | Hegnus sprints ahead as soon as he hears the shout, followed closely by Aramil. "What is it? What's happened? Where is Pekka?" "He's inside, I never would have expected --" Hegnus shoulders past the other dwarf, then stops, motionless, in the doorway. "Dear Mother, forgive..." |
| #116zombiegleemaxMay 06, 2004 15:44:14 | *Aramil runs up to where Hegnus is standing motionless and tries to see what has happened to make him stand there like this. .oO(This can't be good......) |
| #117zombiegleemaxMay 06, 2004 15:49:51 | Looking past Hegnus' shoulder, Aramil sees the horrific sight of a dwarf hanging by the neck, rope looped over a roof beam. The stool kicked away across the floor is all the explanation necessary, and the dwarf's swollen and discolored face is evidence that help has arrived too late. "I... I went for supplies, he was alive when I left, I never imagined..." The man's voice chokes off, and he turns away. |
| #118zombiegleemaxMay 06, 2004 15:56:24 | *Aramil slowly puts his weapons away, he puts a hand on Hegnus' shoulder for some support then walks away to let Hegnus some time to himself. .oO(I hope that wasn't the acolyte......) *After a while of letting Hegnus by himself he goes over to him. He pats him on the shoulder again and then whispers quietly to him: "Erm... I'm sorry fer yer loss there Hegnus, but I need ter know, was that the acolyte ye were talkin aboot?" |
| #119taggiivMay 06, 2004 16:07:07 | Tagg winces as he sees the grotesque image, and speedily turns his attention back to the living. He comes to the front of the dwarf (the one that is not Hegnus or Aramil). "Here, try to calm down." Giving him a moment to try and regain his composure, he speaks again. "Ok, now can you tell us exactly what happened here, and who that was?" |
| #120zombiegleemaxMay 06, 2004 22:05:11 | The strange dwarf looks at Tagg, then at Hegnus, then back at Tagg. "Err, who are you?" Hegnus takes a deep breath. "Yes, that was Pekka. The only dwarf alive that saw the beast." The other dwarf, hearing what Hegnus said, nods. "He... felt guilty, for some reason, because the monster didn't catch him. I told him the Mother let him live for a reason, but ... I don't know." He shakes his head, sadly. |
| #121taggiivMay 06, 2004 22:15:26 | -. - If Tagg were a cartoon character, he makes a face similar to the one above. "Ehr.. I'm Tagg, one of Aramil's friends..." Tagg indicates Aramil with his hand to accompany his words. Well.. at least I shocked him out of his.. er.. shock |

| #123zombiegleemaxMay 07, 2004 8:10:14 | Boirin who has mostly listened steps up and so that he can see and looks around. He tries to see into the hut. When he speaks his voice is kind but calm. "I'm sure he died with honor; however, it would seem prudent to check the hut, however we should leave a watch outside to make sure what ever killled him doesn't sneak up on us." When he speaks he uses the dwarven word for honor and hut. |
| #124zombiegleemaxMay 07, 2004 9:27:15 | The dwarves glance at each other, but nod and move aside to allow Boirin to enter and investigate. Searching the hut reveals no evidence of intruders. Sadly, it seems Pekka did indeed die by his own hand. A small altar to Ordemetrex holds his last offering, the smell of beeswax lingering in the still air of the stone hut. |
| #125zombiegleemaxMay 07, 2004 9:58:32 | "Shamed into death?" "Is this a custom among dwarves??" Ulerian stands, leaning on his staff surveying the situation |
| #126zombiegleemaxMay 07, 2004 10:05:40 | "No!" Hegnus and the other dwarf spin to face Ulerian. "No, it certainly is not! Pekka has brought shame to his clan by his death." Hegnus takes a deep breath. "He should have held fast until he could go back with help and faced down the beast." |
| #127zombiegleemaxMay 07, 2004 14:18:31 | *Aramil scowls as he hears Ulerians words. .oO(How dare he! )*Aramil holds back his words though because no matter how much he hates Ulerian he will still need them in order to complete the adventure. Aramil puts a hand on Hegnus to further calm him down then he says to him: [dwarven]"Do not worry aboot him me kin, he does not know what he is talkin' aboot. But instead of standing around here all day, let us avenge yer friends death by driving away the foul beast that lays within the shrine. Then yer friend and the souls of the others that died can finally rest in peace, and ye can worship their again!"[dwarven] |
| #128zombiegleemaxMay 07, 2004 17:47:24 | Boirin has to force his rage down an he hears Ulerian's words. He has to restrain himself mentally from giving Ulerian a lecture on honor. He waits for the dwarf to respond. |
| #129taggiivMay 07, 2004 18:36:59 | Tagg does think the comment was in bad taste, especially insulting since Aramil and other proud dwarves are present, but takes no personal offense to Ulerian's words. Tagg gives a mental sigh as the rest of the group starts to fade into Dwarven speech, once again left in the dark. He considers mentioning it to Aramil, but decides against it. As long as he doesn't miss anything important because of it. Err..I didnt miss anything important thus far, right? |
| #130zombiegleemaxMay 07, 2004 20:15:24 | Hegnus shakes his head and sighs. "We don't expect humans to know our customs and ways. Aye, come, I'll lead you to the shrine..." "Wait!" calls the other dwarf. "There's something you need to know. Pekka had a trap set up, in case the monster tried to come after us, but... I don't know exactly where it is. And the others that helped him with it have gone back to the mother temple for a new priestess..." |
| #131zombiegleemaxMay 07, 2004 21:42:15 | Hearing Hegnus's first comment Boirin says softly, half to himself. [dwarven]"Some of us try."[/dwarven] Then the word trap catches his attention, and he looks up. [dwarven]"Traps I can cope with, knowing where it is helps but if its there I'll find it, and try my damndest to disable it."[/dwarven] |
| #132zombiegleemaxMay 08, 2004 15:50:50 | *Aramil sighs as the other dwarf mentions the word trap, Aramil hasn't always had great experiences with traps especially back home..... He nods to Boirin to allow him to strat looking for the trap and then in turn tells Hegnus: "Do not worry my friend if anyone can find the trap it'll be Boirin. *Aramil then turns to Tagg and gives him a nod, but when he sees the confused look on his face Aramil gives a quiet chukle. "Ye know I need ter teach ye how ter speek me language sometime. That way ye won't get lost. *Aramil gives a nod and a wink to Tagg and then waits for Boiring to 'work his magic'. |
| #133zombiegleemaxMay 08, 2004 17:05:27 | Hegnus wavers momentarily, then asks Aramil and his group to please wait. "I need to help Karl get Pekka down, first. Then I'll guide you up to the tunnels." |
| #134zombiegleemaxMay 08, 2004 19:09:39 | *Aramil nods to Hegnus then sets away to allow Hengus into the room. He bows his head reverantly as they take down his body. |
| #135zombiegleemaxMay 08, 2004 19:32:08 | With Pekka's body arranged on the cot, Hegnus waves to the group to follow him, and takes them the rest of the way up the trail to a cave opening. "There ye be. Follow the directions carved on the tunnel walls, and you'll be fine. So long as you don't find the trap the hard way..." |
| #136zombiegleemaxMay 09, 2004 8:42:34 | *Aramil nods to Hegnus. Then he takes out his shield and axe. He turns to the others and gives them a new marching order. "I'll be in front since I have teh map. Next will be Boirin, for if there is a trap somewhere I'll need him ter tell me where it is. Then Ulerian since he has spells that will be of use in tough situations, and lastly Tagg who is very skilled with a bow and can see without much light. Ready? Lets go!" *Aramil gives a not to the group and then heads off down the tunnel following Hegnus' directions and the wall's directions. |
| #137zombiegleemaxMay 09, 2004 9:42:24 | Boirin digs out his lantern, refills it and lights it. "I'm sorry to disrupt your darkvision Master Aramil, but I need to be able to see to disarm." The man continues along behind the dwarf looking intently at all the walls for any signs of the trap. [OoC: Search for trap +9] |
| #138taggiivMay 09, 2004 11:07:10 | Tagg nods at Aramil's proposed plan, and follows along from the rear. He keeps his eyes ahead, watching Boirin search. |
| #139zombiegleemaxMay 09, 2004 20:38:46 | As Aramil strides along through the tunnel, taking note of the dwarven runes on the walls directing worshippers towards the sacred Shrine of the Mother's Tears, he belatedly notices the earth crumbling under his feet. Violently throwing himself backwards, gripping the tunnel floor with work-hardened fingers, Aramil pulls himself from the edge of the pit. Boirin is a split-second faster to recognize the threat, and has back-flipped to safety while Aramil is still teetering with windmilling arms. When the dust clears, they see a thirty foot deep pit in the tunnel. |
| #140zombiegleemaxMay 10, 2004 7:49:13 | Boirin smiles grimly, "I beleive we have found the trap." He comes up beside Aramil and shine his lantern down into the pit. |
| #141zombiegleemaxMay 10, 2004 8:09:07 | "Well done.." Ulerian smiles cynically as he stands by. |
| #142zombiegleemaxMay 10, 2004 9:36:52 | As Boirin inspects the trap, observing the remnants of timbers and stone, he is sure he could have jammed it so that it would not have collapsed. Too late now, though, and they need a way across. Perhaps edging around it on the sides would suffice, though a slip could be fatal to the frailer members of the group. The sound of running water echoes faintly down the tunnel ahead. |
| #143taggiivMay 10, 2004 22:40:57 | Tagg frowns as the hole falls in. He experimentally walks up to it, kicking a pebble down into it, waiting for a couple seconds until the small patter can be heard as it clangs against the floor at the bottom of the pit. He crouches near the edge, looking around at the hole. "Looks like we might be able to sneak past it along the edge there.. Perhaps we can see what can be done with some rope." |
| #144zombiegleemaxMay 11, 2004 14:41:54 | *Aramil breaths a sigh of relief when he is able to grab ahold of something on the ground, he pulls himself up and dusts himself off, he chuckles at Boirin's comment but then frowns at Ulerians comment. He looks at how far the hole is and then takes out his climbers kit to see if there is anything useful that would be able to get a hold of something on the other side. (ooc: Looking for a grappling hook, I don't know if one would come in there or not.) |
| #145zombiegleemaxMay 11, 2004 17:59:02 | Edit: Sorry guys this is Boirin wrong character agian. ![]() |
| #146zombiegleemaxMay 11, 2004 18:01:36 | "Okay I have an idea. Aramil are you a fair climber? You have a kit so I spect so. Heres what we do; we hold onto the rope at this end, and you tie the rope around your waste. We let you shimmy down the rope to the bottom of the pit. Then you go to the other side and use your kit to get up the other side. Then you pull the rope taught, and Tagg and Ulerian go across upside down, without there packs, one at a time. Once they get across I slide their packs down with my own and yours. Then you send me the kit and I pull in the rope. I spike the rope down, climb down, pull the spike and rope out. Walk across and climb up the other side. Make sense?" |
| #147zombiegleemaxMay 11, 2004 19:13:06 | *Aramil smiles at Boirin's idea. "Yes, yes it does sound like a good idea ter me, but I was thinking of something similar, if that fails we will try yours. I was thinking of just using my climbing kit to someone hook onto something on the ground across the hole, then each of use will walk, crawl, or something to get across the rope. I'll be holding it, then once everyone is over I'll swing across and Boirin and Tagg'll pull me up. Sound good? Or should we go with yers?" *Aramil continues to rummage through his kit to see if he has anything to grab onto the stone across the hole |
| #148zombiegleemaxMay 11, 2004 20:35:58 | Per the PHB, a climber's kit does not include a grappling hook. |
| #149zombiegleemaxMay 12, 2004 9:39:34 | As the group debates their course of action, examination of the pit reveals a depth of thirty feet, and a distance across of fifteen feet. Aramil is grateful to note there do not appear to be any spikes or other nastiness at the bottom of the pit, although the tumbled stones would make for a rocky landing. |
| #150zombiegleemaxMay 12, 2004 11:36:41 | "Surely the dwarves have a plank or two we could lay across the pit? " Ulerian says as he peers beyond, down into the passage. |
| #151zombiegleemaxMay 12, 2004 14:40:51 | *Aramil curses at his ill luck for not having anything to use to get to the other side. He tells Boirin that he doesn't have any grappling hooks which could make it much harder. Then he hears Ulerian and shakes his head at him. "That wouldn't be a good idea, we already were very close to not being able ter get in here, so how good do ye think it would be if we got back ter them askin' fer some wood cause we want ter take the easy way out. How good do ye think that would be?" *Aramil shakes his head again and then thinks about how they can get across. |
| #152taggiivMay 12, 2004 15:25:44 | "Well, I thought Boirin's plan would work." Tagg peers down at the bottom of the pit. |
| #153zombiegleemaxMay 12, 2004 20:52:40 | *Aramil strokes his beard some then comes up with a good idea. "Alright heres what well do. Somebody will go down to the bottom of the pit and look around to see if there are any tunnels that might lead back to here, if so then he'll send a signal back to us by tugging the rope once, if he is getting attacked he'll tug the rope twice, and if he just plainly wants to come back up he'll tug the rope thrice. Sound good to ye? Oh and if we don't find anything then we'll go on with Boirin's plan." *Aramil loosk to the others for any suggestions or comments. |
| #154zombiegleemaxMay 13, 2004 8:01:20 | "Allright lets get you ready Aramil." Boirin begins to ready for his plan to take effect. He hand the rope to Aramil so he may tie the knot. Then he takes the other end and readies to pull the dwarf up at a moments notice. |
| #155zombiegleemaxMay 13, 2004 8:05:22 | "How is walking across something, to get to the other side of the pit, the easy way out? I think we should do our best to get to the other side and continue, but.. I will help you with this pit excavation." |
| #156zombiegleemaxMay 13, 2004 8:18:11 | "Well I guess we could make a bridge, that would involve leaving a watch here while everyone else goes and gets the materials, then knocking the bridge down after we cross so the beasty doesn't get out behind us. Then when we get back we'll have to just do what we're doing now." |
| #157zombiegleemaxMay 13, 2004 14:07:31 | *Aramil nods his head after Boirin is done speaking, and then turns to Ulerian. "There's yer answer. Now lets get me ready ter go down there." *Aramil helps with Boirin to get the little exploration of the pit underway. Once he is done he makes sure that everyone is ready then he strats to go down into the pit. |
| #158zombiegleemaxMay 13, 2004 15:24:54 | Aramil climbs expertly down into the pit. It is a recently-dug thirty foot deep, fifteen foot wide pit. |
| #159zombiegleemaxMay 13, 2004 19:12:48 | *After the easy climb down Aramil quickly switches from his normal spectrum of vision into his, more appropriate for underground, darkvision. His eyes glow red as with all creatures that have this ability, and only creatures with this abilitilty might be able to see his red eyes. Then since he can see better he starts to look around to see if there is any tunnel or anything that might lead away from here. |
| #160zombiegleemaxMay 14, 2004 9:58:45 | As Aramil looks around, it suddenly occurs to him that a recently dug pit trap would certainly not have an escape tunnel in it. Since the idea of the trap, as already explained to him, is to keep the monster from leaving the area it is in... |
| #161zombiegleemaxMay 14, 2004 14:09:30 | (ooc: Thanks for making me sound stupid Sche...... )*Aramil cureses his luck, he was hoping that some monster might have dug a seperate tunnel that might lead away from this place, he tuggs the rope three times to signal that he wants to come back up. *When he gets back to the top he explains to the group that there are no other tunnels leading away from the pit, so they will have to go along with Boirin's plan. Then he starts to get his stuff ready to start Boirin's plan. |
| #162taggiivMay 14, 2004 20:01:04 | [heh, dont feel bad. Just remember the time when i tried interrogating an unconscious goblin ^- ^] After Tagg hears Aramil's verdict, he turns back to Boirin. "From what I understood from your proposal, we all climb down into the pit, then climb back up the other side?" "Err.. or was it us going across a rope bridge? I think you lost me when you mentioned something about crossing it upside down.." |
| #163zombiegleemaxMay 16, 2004 15:25:39 | Removing his backpack and getting ready to go across, Boirin responds. "Aramil goes down and then back up. We have the rope. He holds the rope, we lift the rope. You two go across the rope, then I slide the stuff across the rope. You give me back the rope, I nail it down and climb down this side, I pull out the pin and climb back up with Aramil's pitons. Any questions?" As he says this he rubs his gloved hands around him in a small heap is his quiver, crossbow, sword, and pack. He takes his dagger and shoves the sheath down his boot. |
| #164zombiegleemaxMay 16, 2004 19:36:08 | With the assistance of the rope, the group makes its way across the pit. Just beyond the pit, five feet at most, is a sharp turn. As they round the curve of the tunnel, the sound of water is louder, and Aramil can see a stream disappearing into a hole in the tunnel floor. There is room on one side of the tunnel to continue along, on the left side of the stream. |
| #165zombiegleemaxMay 17, 2004 11:16:22 | Ulerian says nothing about what Aramil 'found' at the bottom of the pit, or lack there of. He simply follows along, and stays both quiet and alertful |
| #166zombiegleemaxMay 17, 2004 18:21:55 | "Where to, boss?" Boirin says as he walks behind the dwarf. |
| #167zombiegleemaxMay 18, 2004 12:31:07 | Peering back over his shoulder at the pit behind them, Ulerian mumbles cyically. "Foward Borin..Right master dwarf?" |
| #168zombiegleemaxMay 18, 2004 14:21:42 | *Aramil roll's his eyes at the cynical mark made by Ulerian then he nods his head to Boirin and gives him a nod and a wink, then he takes out his axe and shield and gets them ready just incase. Then he moves towards the tunnel. |
| #169zombiegleemaxMay 18, 2004 18:32:29 | Boirin nods, then draws and loads his crossbow and follows the dwarf down the passage. |
| #170zombiegleemaxMay 18, 2004 19:17:25 | As the group moves along the tunnel, they find the going quite easy. The tunnel floor is smooth, with a gentle slope to allow any moisture accumulation from the stream to roll back to the watercourse. The tunnel walls soon show iconic carvings, though they are arranged so as to enhance the natural crystalline formations. At last, the cavern lies before them, a vaulted chamber, walls studded with crystal, and sparse but impressive stonework. On either side of the pool stands a three-columned arch. The pool itself has been slightly modified with a carved retaining wall, and there are the remains of a swirling platform above it. The waterfall thunders from the wall directly before and above them. The Tears of the Mother |
| #171taggiivMay 18, 2004 22:51:56 | Tagg frowns when he sees Ulerian and Aramil's relationship growing more sour, fearing that it may perhaps work against them sometime soon. As they enter the huge chamber, even though the elf has natural preferences to unenclosed areas, he cannot help but admire the temple. He runs his hand lightly along the wall, as he looks over it. "This is the temple, I presume, Aramil?" He takes a few minutes to simply look at the impressive structures, trying to take it all in at once. Hrm.. wasn't there supposed to be some kind of monster in here? Tagg wanders over towards the fountain that the water feeds into, and peers down into it. |
| #172zombiegleemaxMay 19, 2004 14:28:36 | *As Aramil enters the temple he immediatly bows down in respect to his kins god, even though Aramil does not worship any diety particularly he is still reverent to them. When he gets back up he nods to Tagg and also admires the work of the temple. When Tagg goes near the central pool of water Aramil grabs his shoulder and pulls him away lightly. Then he whispers to him: "Don't ye remember the monster came out of the pool? I don't think it would be best ter look down in there yet, unless we need ter. Keep yer eyes open, ye might want ter ready yer bow also." *Then Aramil turns to the rest of the group to speak to them. "Ye can admire the craftsmanship of the temple all ye want, but just remember our mission, ye might want ter also prepare for combat, since I don't know where the monster is. *With that he nods to the group, smiles and then gribs his shield and his axe. He walks over to the main fountain and bows again, he doesn't look in it though, instead he keeps a sharp eye out for the monster or any of its minions. |
| #173zombiegleemaxMay 19, 2004 15:50:06 | The only sound in the shrine is the thunder of the waterfall, and the rushing of the overflow from the pool through the stream. If a monster is hiding here, it would have to be behind or under the stonework, or in the pool. |
| #174zombiegleemaxMay 20, 2004 8:10:34 | 'Let him look, he is a proud warrior, and it may lure the beast forth.."Ulerian adds as he stands in the doorway to the temple. |
| #175zombiegleemaxMay 20, 2004 8:17:30 | Glaring at Ulerian for his comment, he does however see some truth in it. "Hay Boss, I would suggest we, uh, look for the beasty. Sittin 'round in the dark won't get this temple cleared." |
| #176zombiegleemaxMay 20, 2004 14:16:45 | *Aramil scowls at Ulerian, even though his back is turned to Ulerian, he does not say anything though, but he does take up Ulerian on his suggestion. He talks to everyone: "Alright we are going ter split up into two groups, the first group will be me and Boirin, which means that Tagg and Ulerian will be in the second group. Boirin and I will search up here near the pool and will call you guys if we find anything, which means that Tagg and Ulerian will search in the beginning of the temple adn work there way towards the middle where they will meet us. Sound good? |
| #177taggiivMay 20, 2004 16:47:03 | "Hm.. alright." After Aramil explains the plan, Tagg looks around at the cavern walls. He is a bit skeptical that there could be something hiding in the walls, however, since the walls appear so solid and final. Of coure, he reminds himself, what kind of secret passage betrays itself at first glance? Regardless, he starts to walk along his assigned wall, keeping his keen eyes peeled for anything amiss. [Search +8, Spot +6] |
| #178zombiegleemaxMay 20, 2004 19:16:34 | "Okay" Boirin follows with Aramil and looks around. [ooc: Search +9, spot -1] |
| #179zombiegleemaxMay 20, 2004 19:41:44 | The four men search the chamber, finding no signs of the monster. Aramil can see that the broken platform must have fallen into the pool. Repairing it will likely involve raising the stones from the bottom of the pool. The turbulence of the water makes it impossible for him to guess at the pool's depth. |
| #180zombiegleemaxMay 20, 2004 19:59:13 | *After a while of searching with no luck Aramil curses to himself. He was hoping that it would be easier to find the monster then this. He shrugs, then when he notices the fallen platform he decides that he mine as well check how deep the pool to pass some time, so he takes his rope back out, ties a rock or something to the end of it for a wieght and then starts to lower the rope into the pool to see how deep it is. He keeps a steady stance just incase the rope for some reason would start to pull it in.... |
| #181zombiegleemaxMay 20, 2004 20:38:24 | Aramil decides the pool is some twenty feet deep. |
| #182zombiegleemaxMay 20, 2004 20:53:35 | .oO(To deep ter get the durned thing right now..... hrm... ) *Aramil scratches his beard after he pulls up the rope and puts it away. He starts to think about how they might be able to find the monster. "I don't suppose any of ye have any suggestions about how ter find the durned beast....." |
| #183zombiegleemaxMay 21, 2004 8:01:49 | Boirin shakes his head and begins tossing pebbles into the pool, his crossbow tucked under his arm. |
| #184zombiegleemaxMay 21, 2004 9:18:29 | "It seems to like eating dwarven priests praying here.. Why don't you try that.. Pray.. To bad all the rest that saw it have passed on..." Ulerian stands quietly after the search, near the doorway. |
| #185zombiegleemaxMay 21, 2004 17:16:18 | *Aramil really has to use much of his training to stop himself from lashing out at Ulerian for that comment. He does manage to settle down, he turns around and speaks to him as calm as he can. "The monster does not like dwarves who are praying at the time he attacked, they were the closest possible things he could eat, so there for he does not like them. But if you insist on praying then go ahead and be my guest." *Aramil turns back around and wonders what its going to take to get the monster out, when he gets an idea. He turns back around and addresses the group. "Do you think he may be trapped under that fallen platform?" |
| #186zombiegleemaxMay 21, 2004 17:29:05 | Boirin considars Aramil's words. "Its a possibility I guess. I'm not sure how we'd get it out though." |
| #187zombiegleemaxMay 22, 2004 8:34:14 | *Aramil scratches his beard for a while. Then he turns back to the group. "Well I don't suppose any of ye can hold yer breath fer long periods of time? Or perhaps Ulerian might have a spell or two ter help us along in this." |
| #188zombiegleemaxMay 22, 2004 9:56:22 | "You or Tagg would probably be best at it...." The waterfall catches Boirin's eye and he looks up from his squatting posistion. "Wher does that stream lead to?" |
| #189zombiegleemaxMay 22, 2004 14:49:40 | *Aramil scratches his beard again. "I'm not much of a swimmer meself. So maybe Tagg woul be able ter do it. Meh? The stream..... I dunno, lemme check the map." *Aramil gets the map out and checks to see if there is any indication on where the stream leads. And if that doesn't tell him anything he checks around the temple for any pictures on the walls like the ones that led them here to the tunnel in the first place. |
| #190zombiegleemaxMay 22, 2004 19:03:10 | The underground stream bursts from the wall above head-height, plunging into the pool. The overflow leads out the tunnel until it disappears underground again, where they passed it. The map is of no use, since it guides them only from Garic's City to the rock quarry, where they met their guide. Aramil cannot find any decorations in the shrine that would indicate the source or destination of the stream. |
| #191taggiivMay 23, 2004 9:22:50 | Whoa.. when did I get nominated to go dive in there and get eaten... or something... "Well, eh,.. I'd prefer not to have to just dive down there.. If that's where the monster is supposed to be, it might not be the best idea to just go to it.. especially underwater, where we would not be at our best abilities." Tagg thinks for a few moments more. "Perhaps... we can use some kind of object to try and lure it out. That is, if its even in the pool here. Nothing seemed to interrupt your rope, Aramil." |
| #192zombiegleemaxMay 24, 2004 7:43:35 | .oO(Hmmm, I wounder...) Boirin walks to the waterfall at sticks his through to feel if there is a cave behind it. |
| #193zombiegleemaxMay 24, 2004 9:17:19 | There is no cave behind the waterfall, Boirin finds, though the power of the falling water is a bit intimidating. Although the water is cool, it is not so cold that it would cause problems to a swimmer. |
| #194zombiegleemaxMay 24, 2004 16:16:49 | *Aramil scratches his head as they cannot find away to find the monster. So he watches closly as Boirin goes over to the waterfall for some reason. When he comes back he speaks to him. "Ye find anything?" |
| #195zombiegleemaxMay 24, 2004 17:48:42 | Boirin shakes his head in disgust as he shakes the water from his hand. "No convinient cave behind the waterfall. I hoped it would be that easy. The waters not too cold though." |
| #196zombiegleemaxMay 24, 2004 19:46:09 | *Aramil sighs, he looks around just to make sure he didn't forget anything, and then starts taking off his pack and stuff to get ready to swim down and get that platform, leaving his armor on just incase, but dropping his weapons. "I guess I'll go down there now, now since I have two ropes I'll need one of ye ter hold the one around my waste incase I need ter be pulled up, I'll pull on the rope once in that case. And the other I'll hook around the platform so we can haul it up." *Aramil gets out his hemp rope and ties that around his waste and hands another end to either Boirin or Tagg. Then he gets out his silk rope since it is much stronger and starts to head down to the bottom of the well so he can get that platform. He tries to get the rope under the platform so he can easily haul it up. |
| #197zombiegleemaxMay 24, 2004 19:53:17 | "Why don't we try probing it with things other than ourselves.. if we do lure it out, a drowned companion will do us no good.." Ulerian moves forward and prods the pool with his staff, he thwacks the top and sides of it, and then dips it in a time or two, letting it go about 4 of the 6 feet down before retracting it. |
| #198zombiegleemaxMay 24, 2004 21:04:44 | While Ulerian prods and beats the sacred pool with his staff, Aramil prepares to enter the water. Dropping in, he sinks quickly under the weight of his armor. There on the pool floor, his outstretched hands (and toes...) find the chunk of lovingly carved stone from the altar platform. As he tries in the turbulent water to loop his silk rope around the stone, his body is slammed by an attack. Claws grip him, teeth bite him, horns pierce him, and the water swirls around in a confusing melee of stone, bubbles, and blood. Initiative and HP standings: Monster Aramil 60/56 and 9 subdual |
| #199zombiegleemaxMay 24, 2004 21:10:23 | Boirin seeing the blood pulls as hard as he can to get the dwarf up to the surface. |
| #200zombiegleemaxMay 25, 2004 14:22:50 | *As Aramil is getting mauled by the monster underwater he can't help thinking as he struggles to try and get away from the monster and back to his weapons.... .oO(I knew the durned beast was in teh water, so why in the 9 hells did I ever go in here! I'm so stupid.......) *Aramil continues his hardest to try and get out of the water before he dies of suffocation. |
| #201zombiegleemaxMay 25, 2004 15:06:51 | Aramil struggles to overcome the water, the weight of his armor, and the furious attack, and retreat up the wall of the pool. He is unable to get a grip and start up, but Boirin begins hauling him up by force. Then, the monster attacks, grabbing at him to pull him down again. It yanks, Aramil falls back, and Boirin feels the rope pass cuttingly through his palms, leaving streaks of blood to drip down his fingers. The gripping claws dig into Aramil, piercing through his arms. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster Aramil 60/51 and 15 subdual edited in damage, sorry! |
| #202zombiegleemaxMay 25, 2004 15:21:10 | *Aramil curses aloud as he gets sucked back into the pool, instead of trying to get out he starts to fight the monster with his fists, hoping that if he can get out of this grapple the monster has on him, he might be able to get up to the top of the water and out of there. .oO(I hope someone sends my weapons down, I might have a better chance now.....) |
| #203taggiivMay 25, 2004 15:32:21 | Tagg lurches forward as though to try and grab Boirin before he falls in, but realizes there is nothing he can do. Quickly jumping to the side of the pool, he draws his bow and an arrow is nocked to it in an instant. He tries his best to make out the figures beneath the water, aiming his bow tentatively at the water's surface. [Spot] |
| #204zombiegleemaxMay 25, 2004 15:37:12 | Aramil twists furiously in the monsters grasp, getting dark glimpses of a stony visage, horns curving up from the brow. He breaks free, feet against its chest, shooting backwards five feet. It propels itself after him in another onslaught, striking to wound, not grasp. Again Aramil suffers multiple wounds... Tagg realizes the combatants are too obscured by the water for him to be able to find a target. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster Aramil 60/48 and 24 subdual |
| #205zombiegleemaxMay 25, 2004 15:42:02 | *Aramil is glad that he is finally able to get away from the beast so he swims up to the surface as fast as possible (or uses the rope if that is still an option.). If he does make it up to the surface he quickly pulls himself up and then goes over and gets his axe and shield and quickly goes back over and gets ready to attack the durned monster. .oO(Durned monster........ ) |
| #206zombiegleemaxMay 25, 2004 16:27:18 | Boirin trys to pull Aramil up as fast as posible, again once he feels that Aramil is not being pulled down |
| #207taggiivMay 25, 2004 17:06:49 | Tagg curses under his breath before dropping the bow, holding the arrow in his hand however and slipping it back in his quiver. Drawing his blades, he takes a few steps backwards away from the pool. Knowing he is unable to help in his current position, he waits for something to come to him. [drop bow, draw scimitar and short sword] |
| #208zombiegleemaxMay 25, 2004 21:29:06 | Aramil flounders in the water, unable to swim in the weight of his armor. Boirin hauls determinedly, however, and just as Aramil feels his lungs may burst, his head breaks the surface of the water. He gasps frantically, only to feel the monsters claws grip him once again. He struggles, nearly breaking free as it digs into him with its claws. The men above, standing on firm stone, see a creature seemingly hewn from the stone itself, looking more like a living statue from an artist's nightmare than anything else. Though Tagg tries, he cannot strike the creature before it disappears under the water once again, hapless dwarf in its clutches. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster Aramil 60/46 and 30 subdual Tagg 26/26 |
| #209zombiegleemaxMay 25, 2004 21:30:46 | "GIVE ME A HAND!" Boirin pulls at the rope trying to get the dwarf to the surface again. |
| #210zombiegleemaxMay 26, 2004 8:09:33 | Ulerian grabs the rope and tries to help as well. "Tagg you cannot attack through water, help get the dwarf out." |
| #211zombiegleemaxMay 26, 2004 9:37:15 | Boirin strains to pull the dwarf back up, with Ulerian's hasty assistance. They have only a brief moment in which to realize that there is more than dwarf on the end of the rope, when the increased weight overwhelms the pair and they tumble into the pool. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster Aramil 60/46 and 30 subdual Ulerian Tagg 26/26 |
| #212zombiegleemaxMay 26, 2004 14:11:58 | *Aramil curses loudly when he starts to yet again get pulled back down into the water, when he sees that Boirin and Ulerian are also pulled down into the water he gets furious with the creature and resolves that once he gets his weapons he shall hunt down and destroy this monster. But first he hopes that Tagg heard him and will send down his weapons. .oO(I must protect Boirin and Ulerian, if I am no match fer this monster then how can they be?!?!? I must protect them even if that means I have to give up my life for them.) *With his new found resolve he yet again tries to break out of the monsters grib, but once he does he tries to attack him with everything he's got, and hopes to some greater being that might be looking after him that Tagg heard him. |
| #213zombiegleemaxMay 26, 2004 15:35:01 | Aramil wrenches free of the monster once again. Ulerian's head pops above the surface of the water. His effort to tread water is nearly ineffective, but with an effort of will he chants out the words to a spell, and his right hand glows with a ghastly blue light. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster Aramil 60/46 and 30 subdual Ulerian Tagg 26/26 |
| #214zombiegleemaxMay 26, 2004 15:46:07 | Boirin pulls out his dagger and procceeds to cut off the heavyist bit of his armor, the breastplate. He kicks off his shoes and trys to struggle to the surface. [OoC: Escape Artist +8 base mod, swim +1 base] |
| #215taggiivMay 26, 2004 16:07:20 | [ooc- can i assume i sheathed my weapons in the round before ulerian and boirin fell in? i will assume yes, but if you decide against it just make the next action take up a round or two extra. Also assuming that when they fell in, they dropped the rope. since rope floats, i believe my action is within reason.] Knowing Ulerian is correct, Tagg sheathes his weapons. Hurrying towards them to help out, he sees them tumble in. Cursing quite loudly enough in Elven, his eyes dart around, looking for something that could be used. Seeing nothing, he simply goes to the edge of the pool. He notes the irony for the briefest moment - he was nominated to go in first, and now he stands alone, the only one still dry. "Don't grab the rope yet! I'm going to take it out first and try to do something with it!" Tagg reaches out, trying to grab the end of a length of rope with his hand. Coming slightly short, he whips out his short sword and uses the flat of the blade to fish it out towards him, then scoops it up. about how many feet long is the rope? |
| #216zombiegleemaxMay 26, 2004 20:53:26 | *Aramil once free from the monster thanks however is up there watching over him, and then with his newfound furry tries to swim to the surface for some much needed air, and possible to get his weapons, or get to the surface..... .oO(I hope Tagg is doin' something up there ter help us....) |
| #217zombiegleemaxMay 26, 2004 21:34:02 | With a deft and graceful motion, Tagg hooks the end of the rope and draws it to himself. Boirin attempts to free himself from his weighty armor. Thankfully he doesn't stab himself, but his breastplate remains firmly in place. The monster is reluctant to let his dinner escape, and tries to regain his grip on Aramil, who fends off the unwanted advance. Floundering in the water, Aramil is unable to swim to the surface. Ulerian propels himself closer to the melee and tries to touch the creature with his glowing hand. He nearly succeeds. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster Aramil 60/46 and 30 subdual Ulerian Tagg 26/26 |
| #218zombiegleemaxMay 27, 2004 14:25:02 | *Aramil knows that he won't be able to take off his armor and he will need it to try and protect himself from the monster, but he also needs air to survive so he keeps trying to swim to the surface of the water so he can get some much needed air. But seeing how he has not been able to swim to the surface before and knowing that he's running out of air he decides to try and fight the monster with his last ounces of strength. (+7 melee, 1d6+3, 20x2. Bludgeoning.) |
| #219zombiegleemaxMay 27, 2004 14:46:41 | Underwater Combat combined with Unarmed Attack: Aramil's to hit mod is 5, damage (1d3+3)/2, he provokes AoO on each attack, and having failed his Swim check loses his Dex mod to AC (so 17, I believe.) FYI. |
| #220taggiivMay 27, 2004 15:42:04 | After snatching up the rope, he takes no hesitation getting started. Tagg first darts over to the gate-looking pillars to the right of the pool. He ties a quick loop around it, leaving a couple feet of rope on the end. Taking the rest he runs over to the other pillar-gate, and ties a similar loop (yes loops - trying to construct a pulley) Finally, and a more difficult task, he approaches the pool itself. He tries to keep his balance on the upper edge of the pool, and loop the rest of the rope over the arch above the pool's mouth. [if applicable - Use Rope +4, Balance +6 (includes acp)] [color=silver]not much of a doubt in my mind that all this will take more than one round - please just space as you see fit in the upcoming updates. Ideally, the extra length of rope at the first loop can be pulled on, and in turn pull up on Aramil' on the other end of the rope.[/color] |
| #221zombiegleemaxMay 27, 2004 15:57:15 | Seeing the rope go taught as Tagg pulls on it Boirin trys to get at the rope and pull himself to the surface. |
| #222zombiegleemaxMay 27, 2004 17:19:43 | Tagg begins his arrangement of rope, securing it so that the watery fighters can at some point escape their plight. Boirin gives up on his armor, swimming towards the surface. He can see light, and knows that if unmolested he will be able to pull himself out. Aramil resolves to brawl the monster into submission, but it launches another attack upon him, clawing and goring. The dwarf attempts to swing at the stony creature, but the weight of the water slows his arm and throws off his aim, and he can only long despairingly for his axe. Ulerian tries again to touch the creature, but misses. Tagg finishes up his rope arrangement, dangling the extra length down into the water, and Boirin climbs out of the pool, gasping for breath. The monster notices Ulerian's gyrations nearby and reaches out to grab him. Ulerian takes the opportunity again to reach and touch it, but misses, and it reaches for him. Perhaps the glowing hand startles it, though, because Ulerian is able to avoid its vicious grasp. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster Aramil 60/41 and 38 subdual Ulerian Tagg 26/26 |
| #223taggiivMay 27, 2004 18:20:12 | After pulling as hard as he could on his end of the pulley once he felt Boirin's weight on the other side, Tagg loosens his grip and lets the rope slide back into its original position once the rogue emerges. Relieved that his contraption works, he takes the momentary cease to take a few deep breaths and regather his strength. "ARAMIL, WE'RE GOING TO PULL YOU UP!" Tagg yells, hoping that Aramil can hear him from under the water. Once he feels that the dwarf is ready, he pulls again, hoping for his efforts to cooperate with Aramil's, and be enough outmuscle the monster if it happens to grab hold of the fighter again. |
| #224zombiegleemaxMay 27, 2004 18:51:57 | Boirin runs out of the pool and gets behind Tagg, he then proceeds to help pull the dwarf out of the water. [edit: wrong post thing] |
| #225zombiegleemaxMay 27, 2004 18:53:13 | double post |
| #226zombiegleemaxMay 28, 2004 13:59:31 | *Aramil curses in his mind and longs for the feel of his axe biting deep into this beast. Then he hears a mild sound from above and he sees that the monster is trying to attack Ulerian and Boirin and Tagg have formed some type of pully system to get them up. He smiles, even though he knows that he'll have to get out here soon before he dies of lack of oxygen. He tries to grab the rope that Tagg and Boirin are letting down so he can get up to the surface, while trying to defend himself from further attacks from the monster. (ooc: Not sure if I can take a defensive action and reach for the rope but if I can then I'll do it, if not then just reach for the rope.) |
| #227zombiegleemaxMay 28, 2004 15:50:53 | Since there seems to be a great deal of confusion about this, let me make it clear: Aramil tied the rope around his waist before entering the pool. It is STILL tied around his waist. |
| #228zombiegleemaxMay 28, 2004 18:25:06 | Boirin and Tagg haul on the rope, pulling the dwarf from the pool and leaving Ulerian alone to fight off the deadly beast. His glowing hand strikes the creature, and if it were capable of expression, one suspects it would look truly startled by the pain Ulerian causes it. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster Aramil 60/41 and 38 subdual Ulerian Tagg 26/26 |
| #229zombiegleemaxMay 29, 2004 9:57:48 | *Aramil smiles greatly as he is finally able to get out of the pool. He nods his head to Boirin and Tagg. Then he goes over and hurridly gets his weapons together. He takes out his bow and nocks an arrow (Regular arrow) so that he can try and draw the attention off of Ulerian. "If the monster does not stop attacking Ulerian then get prepared to haul up him and me fer I'll be goin in ter get him." (Longbow+1, +11/+6 ranged, d8+1, 20x3, Piercing, 100ft.) .oO(Its good ter feel a weapon in my hand finally, now it is time fer the beast to die.) "Tagg, Boirin, thank ye fer saving me, now it is time fer the beast to die, get yer bows out and start shooting! *With that Aramil lets go his first arrow at the nasty beast, then he quickly reloads and lets go another arrow right behind the other one. |
| #230zombiegleemaxMay 29, 2004 10:25:48 | Aramil aims his bow, only to realize that he cannot target the creature... at all. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster Aramil 60/41 and 38 subdual Ulerian Tagg 26/26 Completely submerged creatures have Total Cover. |
| #231taggiivMay 29, 2004 10:58:01 | Tagg smiles back at Aramil, but knows they're not near done with their mission. "Aramil, get the rope off yourself and throw it back in for Ulerian!" He prepares to begin hauling out the wizard. |
| #232zombiegleemaxMay 29, 2004 15:56:18 | *Aramil realizes that he cannot target the creature at all. He nods to Tagg and takes off the rope and throws it down to Ulerian. Then he takes out his shield and axe and gets ready to fight the beast. He gets his feet planted in front of him in a good dwarven stance that he has known since he was a child, then he gets prepared to attack. (ooc: Prepared action to attack any enemy when it gets out of the pool. +12/+7 melee, 1d10+5, 20x3, Slashing.) |
| #233zombiegleemaxMay 29, 2004 15:58:17 | Ulerian, hoping the creature will think twice about attacking him again, swims for the surface. |
| #234zombiegleemaxMay 30, 2004 19:46:41 | *Aramil sees Ulerian swim to the surface, so he gets ready to jump back into the pool to help defend Ulerian if need be. He curses himself for dropping the rope when the monster attack, because they could have used that now.... "Get ready ter pull Ulerian up, and possibly me if I need ter get down there ter defend Ulerian. And after we get ter the top here again, be prepared ter fight this thing with ranged weapons preferably, but if ye feel up ter a close ranged fight be me guest. Now get ready!" |
| #235zombiegleemaxMay 31, 2004 22:35:27 | Boirin nods and prepairs to either pull the dwarf or wizard from the water or grab his crossbow from the floor. |
| #236zombiegleemaxMay 31, 2004 22:56:34 | Tagg hurries to help Ulerian from the water, while Boirin tries to choose the best course of action. As he stands there, the monster bursts from the pool, leaping onto the ground and reaching for Aramil. I'm placing Tagg at P-2, pulling Ulerian out. Boirin at O-2, and Aramil at N-3. Monster jumping out at O-3. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster Aramil 60/41 and 38 subdual Ulerian Tagg 26/26 |
| #237zombiegleemaxMay 31, 2004 23:07:27 | Boirin lunges for his crossbow, reloads and fires it at the Beast. [OoC:+6 attack] |
| #238zombiegleemaxJun 01, 2004 9:28:20 | Ulerian swings again with his blue glowing hand, trying to zap some power from the beast. Chill Touch #2 posting out of turn for sake of getting one in. Back but still busy, thanks for the npcing Miss S. ![]() |
| #239zombiegleemaxJun 01, 2004 9:58:51 | Originally posted by Ulerian You're welcome, but you'll still have one more charge of Chill Touch. Would you like to use that first? |
| #240zombiegleemaxJun 01, 2004 14:17:14 | (ooc: What happened to my ready action??!?!?!?!? )*Aramil sees the monster burst out of the pool and immediatly starts to try and attack Aramil. Aramil just smirks. Then he says to the beast. "Ye stupid beast, it would have been better fer ye ter stay in the water like a coward, cause now yer gonna taste steel fer a long time." *With that Aramil starts swinging away at the beast. (MW Waraxe, +12/+7 melee, 1d10+5, 20x3, Slashing.) |
| #241zombiegleemaxJun 01, 2004 15:19:29 | Aramil starts swinging his axe at the monster, hitting it twice, but only the second blow chips it. Aramil is stunned, as those two blows would have taken down many a tree. Ulerian clambers from the water with Tagg's assistance, and Boirin shoots at the monster with his crossbow. The great precision of his shot leaves a bolt jutting from its ear. It roars, lunging with outstretched claws at Aramil. Aramil recognizes an opening, and takes advantage, leaving another small chip, and throwing it off its stride. Taking advantage of the reprieve, Aramil swings again, hitting precisely and doing serious damage. The creature does not fall, and Ulerian scrambles forward to touch it with his still-glowing hand. I'm placing Tagg at P-2, pulling Ulerian out. Boirin at O-2, and Aramil at N-3. Monster at O-3. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster (injured) Aramil 60/41 and 38 subdual Ulerian Tagg 26/26 |
| #242zombiegleemaxJun 01, 2004 15:25:22 | *Aramil roars out in praise as he deals many a blow to the monster. Then he gets back to his stance again and prepares to attack the beast again, hopefully the beast will fall soon. "I told ye, ye would be tastin' steel soon enough, but no ye didn't listen. Well have some more!" (MW Waraxe, +12/+7, 1d10+5, 20x3, Slashing.) |
| #243zombiegleemaxJun 01, 2004 20:06:55 | Boirin reloads the his crossbow and starts aims at the beast and fires. [ooc: reload and attack +6] |
| #244zombiegleemaxJun 01, 2004 21:41:40 | Tagg stands in shock while Boirin hurriedly reloads and fires off a shot at the beast. Despite the close range, its bobbing and weaving keeps it safe from the bolt, and it roars and launches a full-out attack against the mouthy dwarf. Aramil is unable to withstand its ferocity, and he falls to the ground unconscious. Ulerian has not been idle, and intones an arcane phrase, bringing a crackling force around his hand. Reaching out, he lays his hand on the stony monster, and is rewarded by its roar of pain. Tagg is at P-2. Boirin at O-2, and Aramil at N-3. Monster at O-3. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster (injured) Aramil 60/35 and 47 subdual, unconscious Ulerian Tagg 26/26 |
| #245zombiegleemaxJun 01, 2004 22:18:14 | Boirin curses to himself in a hushed wisper, reloads and fires again. |
| #246zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 8:42:29 | Ulerian steps back with his successful strike and casts another spell. He speaks a few more arcane words, mostly mumbling them and reaches out for another touch attack on the beast. |
| #247zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 9:16:01 | Tagg shakes himself to activity, moving past Ulerian and swinging at the monster. His scimitar clangs uselessly off the rocky creature, and it turns to look at him appraisingly. Boirin fires and misses, and the monster reaches for Tagg. Fear lends his arm a strength and precision it did not have before, and he fends off its grasp with a granite-chipping blow. Ulerian attempts to find an opening to touch the creature again, but is unable to do so. Tagg continues his attack, missing. Tagg is at P-2. Boirin at O-2, and Aramil at N-3. Monster at O-3. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster (injured) Aramil 60/35 and 47 subdual, unconscious Ulerian Tagg 26/26 |
| #248zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 9:20:10 | Ulerian moves away as the beast focuses on Tagg. He kneels by Aramil and empties a poition in the the dwarf's mouth. "Wake up long beard!!!" |
| #249zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 10:18:32 | Boirin seeing the crossbow as his best chance to hit the beast he moves into a position to flank tne beast reloads and fires. |
| #250zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 14:02:15 | *As Aramil gets hit but the monster all out attack he feels his strength drain away from him and he mutters a few words before he falls helplessly to the floor. "I... just... wanted ter... protect....." (ooc: Sorry about the lateness of this post, but I couldn't get a chance to post it seeing how I had school to attend...... >_<) |
| #251zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 14:59:37 | Boirin fires and once again watches a bolt bury itself in the living granite, falling again but leaving a visible dent. The monster swings its head in frustration, looking from one to another of the standing foes, and takes a deliberate backwards hop into the turbulent pool, vanishing from sight with a tremendous, group-drenching splash. Ulerian forces a potion into Aramil, and watches the dwarf's skin take on a woody quality. Tagg is at P-2. Boirin at O-2, and Aramil at N-3. Initiative and HP standings: Boirin 20/20 Monster (badly injured) Aramil 60/35 and 47 subdual, unconscious Ulerian Tagg 26/26 |
| #252zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 15:25:06 | Ulerian jumps at the beast and saying a few arcane words, and few in common dives in after it. "Watch the pool for me!" Once in he tries to touch the beast, making as much noise as possible to get it's attention. |
| #253zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 15:29:48 | "Bloody ashes! What was that?" Boirin gasps as the creature retreats into the water. He quickly reloads his crossbow as he speaks. He then looks to Aramil, "What in the hells did you give him?" |
| #254zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 15:57:50 | Ulerian leaps into the pool, recklessly attempting to finish off the monster. It avoids him, then attacks, biting and goring. Ulerian grits his teeth against the assault, then slaps it angrily, and it rears back in agony, thrashing the already turbulent water. |
| #255zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 16:10:08 | Boirin aims into the churning water and waits for the creature to surface again.. [ooc:ready action vs. approach]] [edit changed from attack] |
| #256zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 16:55:15 | Ulerian swipes at the beast again despite its horrible attacks. |
| #257taggiivJun 02, 2004 17:04:23 | Tagg gasps surprised as his blade has no effect on the monster. As it dives back into the water, he is surprised once again as the mage dives in. Doesn't seem like the wisest thing.. if we are going to fight it it should be on land on our terms.. Regardless, the elf goes to find the end of the length of rope and throws it into the pool. "Ulerian, pull on this when you need to get out, and we'll take you up!" After doing this he darts back over to his side of the pulley and gets ready. |
| #258shatteredtowerJun 02, 2004 17:49:47 | Pardon the intrusion, Scheherazade, but I hope this will save you a little bit of time. Boirin, Tagg, please note that the creature has returned to the pool, and Ulerian dived in after it. Please make sure that your posted actions take that factor into account. | #260zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 19:05:31 | As I've previously noted in this thread, when the creature is submerged it has Total Cover. Ranged shots miss automatically when made from land. Sorry! Go ahead & edit your actions accordingly. |
| #261zombiegleemaxJun 02, 2004 19:46:52 | Time passes, and neither the beast nor Ulerian can be seen. To the onlookers, the seconds tick by as though time had slowed to a crawl, marked only by their breath and heartbeat. |
| #262taggiivJun 03, 2004 16:56:55 | As the time goes by and nothing happens, and no response on the rope, Tagg cannot help but think something bad has happened to Ulerian. Frowning he abandons his end of the rope. Drawing his short sword he runs over to the pool's edge. We must try and get Ulerian out before he drowns... or is killed outright by the monster... "Boirin, go by the rope and get ready to pull us up. I'm going to try and get a hold of Ulerian!" He takes a deep breath and dives into the water. |
| #263zombiegleemaxJun 03, 2004 17:04:55 | Boirin nods and grabs the rope. |
| #264zombiegleemaxJun 03, 2004 18:51:54 | A corner of Ulerian's mind wonders at the unreality of it all, as the dark, swirling waters obscure the emotionless features of the stone monster attacking him. One paw reaches out to grab at his sleeve and he yanks away, cloth shredding. There is no time for self congratulation as the monster grabs hold with its other paw, pulling him into a painful embrace. Blood flows from the wizard, mixing with the water. He twitches and twists, only to feel its sharp teeth clamp into his shoulder, bone crushed under the relentless pressure. Darkness overwhelms him, as his hand rises to the creature in a final, deadly, riposte. The unconscious pair sink to the bottom of the pool in a silent waltz, the granite form weighting Ulerian down. And so Tagg finds them, there on the bone littered floor of the pool. |
| #265taggiivJun 03, 2004 21:33:37 | If there was any time to spare and he wasn't underwater, Tagg might wince at the painful situation that lays before him. He wades down to the pool's bottom. Pushing some kind of arm bone out of the way with his foot, he tries to wedge the stony monster off of the mage. Once he has gotten Ulerian free enough to be pulled up, he holds Ulerian with one arm and pulls on the rope with other, hopefully with the effect of Boirin noticing. |
| #266zombiegleemaxJun 03, 2004 21:58:47 | Tagg realizes that, fortunately, the monster did not land with its full weight on the mage. If it had, surely it would have crushed the hapless Ulerian. Moving through the water, Tagg pushes and shoves until he has freed up the body, still unsure as to whether there is still life in him. |
| #267zombiegleemaxJun 03, 2004 22:11:47 | Grabbing Aramil's helmet, he ties a quick knot to it with the rope and tosses it into the water for Tagg and Ulerian. |
| #268taggiivJun 03, 2004 22:13:39 | Tagg continues to keep hold of the wizard, and uses his other arm to swim upwards, using the rope to his advantage. As they surface, he immediately gets Ulerian out of the water and onto the dry ground while he catches his own breath for a moment. He does not linger, though, and pulls himself out. Tagg first checks Ulerian to make sure he is still alive, and then starts to locate and examine his other wounds. |
| #269zombiegleemaxJun 03, 2004 22:33:09 | As Tagg examines Ulerian, he realizes that the wizard is dead. Undoubtedly, the time he and Boirin spent waiting for the combatants to resurface was too long for the mage to survive. |
| #270taggiivJun 03, 2004 23:25:49 | Tagg's face turns considerably more grim as he determines the wizard's fate. "He is gone." He says flatly at Boirin without turning his head towards him. He takes off his cloak and places it over Ulerian's body. The elf rises, and walks towards Aramil. Mourning for the dead can come later. It would most likely be a better idea to take care of the still living. "Any plans for what we do now? I suppose we could try getting out of here now, though hauling two beings might not be the easiest." "Might be better if we spend the night here, and wait for Aramil to come to. The monster is dead, I don't think we'll have to worry about anything attacking us." |
| #271zombiegleemaxJun 04, 2004 14:10:40 | Boirin nods mutely. The features of his face titened into a rather astonished expression. Slowly though relisation dawns of Boirin. When he speaks his voice is distant easily showing how stunned he is. "Yeah, it would be smart to not try and get two bodies out of here at once. With Aramil carrying himself we can probably get Ulerian out of here." Boirin shakes his head as if clearing it. He shrugs off his backpack and digs through it, pulling out some food and a skin of water. From his belt he pulls his flask and takes a sip. The firery liquid makes him close his eyes and when he opens them again he looks slightly more relaxed. When he speaks he sounds more together. "We should get a fire started." Following his own advice he begins to look for wood and kindling. |
| #272zombiegleemaxJun 04, 2004 14:21:01 | It is soon obvious that there is no wood in this cavern of stone, crystal and water. After two hours of rest, Aramil regains a painful consciousness |
| #273zombiegleemaxJun 04, 2004 16:58:12 | *Aramil opens his eyes slowly and lets out a groan from all the pain. He slowly gets up and gets into a sitting position, then he looks around. He notices Ulerian laying on the ground and looks in very bad shape. He speaks softly. "Who killed the beast? And I pray that Ulerian isn't dead... I know I didn't like him much, but still ter lose someone as useful as him will be a hard break ter me." *He looks to Boirin and Tagg for some answers. While he is waiting he winces from all the pain is in and hopes that Tagg can take care of the wounds, he lays back down again, using his pack as a pilo, to ease some of the pain. |
| #274taggiivJun 04, 2004 17:17:19 | "We owe the honor of saving the shrine to Ulerian." "I suppose he cared more about the dwarves than he first let on?" Tagg answers to the first question. He simply shakes his head at Aramil's inquiries about the wizard's death. "Sadly.. it is true." He says. Then as silence comes over them, Tagg starts to examine Aramil's wounds. He walks over to Ulerian, and cuts off a strip of his cloak that he had put over him earlier. He uses some water from the pool to clean out a few of the cuts, and then applies makeshift bandages from the cloth strip. "That's about all I can do at the moment.. hopefully some of the dwarves can patch you up a bit better." |
| #275zombiegleemaxJun 04, 2004 18:03:52 | Boirin is quite, lost in thought he takes a sip of his flask and looks at the body of the mage, then takes another sip. "Ulerian seems to have been bolder than any of us. It is a shame that when such honor awakens its bearer should die." |
| #276zombiegleemaxJun 05, 2004 9:45:16 | *Aramil seems almost to lose it when he hears that Ulerian died. He gets up and goes over to sit close to the fire, wincing all the way. He nods to Tagg after he bandages him up. Then he sits there, near the fire thinking. "Tis a shame that he should die, he was the bravest of all of us, like ye said Boirin, I think we owe it ter him ter give him a very good barial cermony. But first we need ter get that durned platform outa the pool, after I rest I'll get it.... *With that Aramil lays down again and goes to sleep. |
| #277zombiegleemaxJun 05, 2004 22:47:34 | Although Tagg tries to make Aramil comfortable, his efforts are unexceptional. Nevertheless, the dwarf feels noticeably better in the morning. His bruises are a lovely rainbow of colors, and the idea of two or three more days of sleeping sounds wonderful. Aramil is at 42 out of 60 hp, and all non-lethal damage has healed. |
| #278zombiegleemaxJun 06, 2004 8:12:12 | *Aramil wakes up with the same pain as when he came into consiousness. He inspects him wounds and notice that they look pretty bad, he rolls his eyes and gets up and stretches. Then he walks around the temple a couple of times to get used to the pain. When Tagg and Boirin also get up he decides that they'll get that platform out there. He retrieves the two pieces of ropes that were on the ground and asks them. "Now I know I said that I would be gettin' the platform, but I'm hurtin' pretty durned bad, so would one of ye mind divin' in the pool and tying a piece of rope around the platform, then whoever's left and myself will haul it up and will fix it if possible." *Aramil tries his hardest not to wince while talking to his companions but he can't let one slip through as his pain his taking a toll on his body. |
| #279taggiivJun 06, 2004 8:41:40 | Tagg nods to Aramil. "Sure, I will do it. But first..." The elf starts to loosen the straps holding his armor in place. He eventually manages to slip it off, and stretches. It is a bit of a relief to be out of the heavy gear, though he shivers when he remembers he must delve into the pool. "Here, let's see that rope." Tagg accepts the rope, then dives into the pool. To his rejoice, the trip is much smoother than the last, no doubt thanks to the lighter load. Once at the bottom, he goes around the monster and begins to tie the rope to the platform, the task Aramil had tried to accomplish before. Once he is finished, he wades back up to the surface. He takes no hesitation finding a new breath to fill his lungs. He pushes clumps of wet hair out of his face, and then climbs back up onto the surface. "Alright, it should be all attached." {remove armor, take 10/20 if possible on any skill checks} |
| #280zombiegleemaxJun 06, 2004 9:12:13 | On his second try, Tagg is able to secure the rope around the platform, and the group hauls up the fallen rock. |
| #281zombiegleemaxJun 06, 2004 13:12:23 | *After the group hauls up the brocken piece Aramil inspects the piece and inspects where he would need to put it to see if he would actually be able to fix this. .oO(I hope I can fix this thing it would be nice ter see it all in one piece after that monster came here and wrecked the durned place.) |
| #282zombiegleemaxJun 06, 2004 14:23:23 | Aramil is able to determine roughly how the stone will need to be placed and repaired. But, he can also see that the creation of the platform was the work of a master stonecarver, and repairing it will take highly skilled labor. Nevertheless, raising the broken stone from the pool will allow the work to be done, eventually. |
| #283zombiegleemaxJun 06, 2004 14:36:25 | *Aramil sees that he will indeed be able to fix some of it. So he goes to work instructing Tagg and Boirin to do some of the stuff that Aramil cannot do by himself. They take breaks occasionally to get some rest since they are all still tired from fighting the beast. They continue to work until the platform is fixed the best Aramil can do, or until its time for them to sleep. |
| #284zombiegleemaxJun 06, 2004 19:03:40 | After a couple hours of work with the dwarf, Boirin pulls aside and stands next to Aramil. "Um, boss, I don't know how much more use we can be, cause after all, these are dwarves, and trained stone masons. We agreed to help them get rid of a monster, we got the stone up too for good measure, but we have a friend to get home for proper burial. I don't know bout you boss but I'm runnin' out of food, I think we should get going soon. Its not to late in the day we could be back by evening or we could stay the night with the dwarves and enjoy some roaring fires and such. Boirin shakes his head realising he has propbably opened himself up for a tounge lashing but hes going to stand his ground. [dwarven]"Boss I'd like to get out of here, and get home or at least sleep in a bed tonight. I'd like take our comrade home before he starts stinkin', cause a stinkin' body isn't very pleasent."[/dwarven] |
| #285zombiegleemaxJun 07, 2004 21:16:11 | *Aramil considers Boirin's words for a while then he slowly nods his head. "Aye, lets go and meet with the Hegnus and the rest. Tagg get yer things together we are headin out. One of ye has ter help me carry Ulerian's body outa here. And when we get back ter Garics we need ter go ter the temple about a proper barial. Lets go.... *Aramil takes one final look around after he got his stuff together bows his head in reverence and bows in reverence, goes over and gently picks Ulerians body up and starts leading the others out of the temple and back to Hegnus. |
| #286zombiegleemaxJun 07, 2004 21:43:20 | Boirin quickly gathers his equipment and helps the dwarf with the corpse as the go out of the temple. |
| #287taggiivJun 07, 2004 22:05:43 | While Aramil fiddles witht he stone, Tagg gets back in his armor. He gives a smull shudder, more from uncomfortability than cold, longing to get into dry clothing. He follows them out of the temple. The elf keeps silent on their journey back, usually avoiding looking over at the bundle Ulerian resides in. |
| #288zombiegleemaxJun 07, 2004 22:31:28 | Exiting the tunnel, Aramil and his companions find Hegnus waiting at a makeshift camp. From the remains of the stone-ringed fire, it is obvious to them that the dwarf has been there all night and day. He stands to greet them, and his eyes widen at the sight of the cloak-wrapped Ulerian. He... you lost a companion? This is terrible! You... you brought a man to help in your task, and he is dead while you yet live? The shame... We're all shamed... He stands, stunned, then swallows hard. The priests will know what to do. They should be here in the morning. He gestures roughly at them to follow, and leads them back towards the quarry dwellings. |
| #289zombiegleemaxJun 08, 2004 11:03:20 | Boirin follows Aramil and Hengus and helps carry the corpse. |
| #290zombiegleemaxJun 09, 2004 17:26:23 | *Aramil lowers his head in guilt as Hegnus speaks to him. He slowly nods his head and follows Hegnus as he shows them where they can stay. When he has some time he takes Hegnus and explains everything that happened while they were in the temple. "I would have gladly given me life ter save Ulerian, but the durned monster knocked me out cold afore I could deal the crushing blow, and when I awoke I found out that Ulerian jumped in the pool after the monster and destroyed him, but then the monster drowned him afore we could get him out." *Aramil lowers his head again in guilt and goes over to rest. |
| #291zombiegleemaxJun 09, 2004 18:02:06 | Hegnus rocks back on his heels as he listens to Aramil's tale, finally breathing out in an explosive sigh. And so, not only is Ulerian dead, but it's his name we'll be inscribing on the tablet of Heroes. Well, there's honor in your truthfulness, and I'll be sure the priests know that. He shows them to the shelter that they'll use for the night, and assures them that a hot meal will be sent over. In the comfort of the small stone house, Tagg is able to focus better on his efforts as a healer, and Aramil gains the full benefit of his ministrations. By the following morning, Aramil is at 56 out of 60 hp. |
| #292zombiegleemaxJun 09, 2004 20:44:52 | *Aramil tries to go to sleep but try as he might he can't seem to get any rest or hardly any of it, he keeps thinking that it is his fault that Ulerian died, finally exhaustion takes over and he falls asleep while Tagg works on his wounds. When he wakes up he sits up and feels his strength return to him, he leans up agains the wall and sits there thinking. .oO(I wish I was not unconsious when Ulerian jumped in, I might have been able ter save him. Well the only thing I can do now is use all of my resources and strength to bring him back, even if I have to give up me own life.) |
| #293zombiegleemaxJun 09, 2004 20:58:02 | With morning comes Hegnus and a basket of hot biscuits with sausage filling. The priests'll see you when you've eaten. No rush, they're inspecting the shrine right now. |
| #294zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 11:09:00 | *Aramil nods his head to Hegnus and gets up and grabs some food for himself. Then when he is done, he stretches and slowly makes his way to see the priests. |
| #295taggiivJun 10, 2004 11:10:57 | Tagg tentatively picks up the biscuit. He is not sure how good it would be, knowing that dwarves aren't the most culinarily attuned. However not eating anything in awhile coupled with the tantalizing aromas make this hesitation brief. He takes a bite and is satisfied. In between bites he tries to speak to Aramil. "I don't know why you're beating yourself up over this, Aramil. You were knocked out, you couldn't have done anything if you wanted." "You didn't choose to be knocked out, did you?" As Tagg gets a hesitant headshake from Aramil he continues. "Exactly." The last word fades, and is a somewhat gentler tone than the rest. He remains seated and keeps a respectful silence as he finishes his breakfast. |
| #296zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 11:26:55 | Hegnus shows Aramil, Boirin and Tagg to where the priests are waiting, in another low-roofed building. Ulerian's body precedes them, resting on a wooden bier and covered in clean canvas. Good day to you, Aramil Dunskar, Boirin son of Naerin, Tagg. Our thanks to you for your efforts in combating that monstrosity, and our apologies in arriving too late to be able to assist. The priest and priestess eye each other. It... came as quite a shock to find that your chosen companion gave his life, in a matter that is very much a dwarven concern. Naturally, this must be remedied. We are going to implore the Mother to restore his life. Due to the extreme expense and effort involved, Aramil, this will incur a debt on your part. |
| #297zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 11:33:37 | *Aramil bows to the priests when he enters the temple then he listens to the priests and priestesses very intentivly and when they say that he will need to do service in order to bring Ulerian back to life, Aramil gladly shakes his head. "I know I wasn't able ter save Ulerian, but I know too that if I wasn't knocked out by that durned monster then I would have been able ter save him. So the least I could do is ter pay the debt ter ye so that Ulerian may breath again, besides it was my duty ter look after him and I failed that so I hope I can succeed at this task." *Aramil bows to the priests and preistesses again and then waits for their word. |
| #298zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 11:48:17 | They nod approvingly, then turn to Boirin and Tagg. Would either of you be able to make use of a wand that holds healing spells? |
| #299taggiivJun 10, 2004 11:54:42 | Tagg's hopes seems to jump at word of a restoration, that perhaps the death was not a finality and the mage would be among them again soon. His state is interrupted by the question. "I suppose... I could." |
| #300zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 12:07:24 | Boirin who has been quiet all night and most of the morning jumps at the priest's words. "Yes bring him back, we owe him enough to try it at least." He looks around something of his normal cheerfullness restored. He pulls one of the morning's biscuits out of his pocket and munches on it. |
| #301zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 12:10:19 | Excellent. Very well, then, Tagg, this wand holds ten castings of a healing spell. For you, Boirin, these potions should be useful. This one is of healing, and this one is a protective spell. A pouch with a bit of coin accompanies the potions. Your companion will be with you tomorrow morning, if all goes well. Tagg receives a wand of Cure Light Wounds, ten charges. Boirin receives a potion of Cure Light Wounds, a potion of Shielf of Faith, and 50gp. |
| #302zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 12:56:13 | Boirin takes the potions and pouch, not sure what he is to do with them. "I'm sorry I'm not sure what I am to do with these, am I to use them during the ceremony?" |
| #303zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 13:27:55 | The priestess looks at Boirin with some confusion. Surely an adventurer such as yourself has need of such things? |
| #304zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 13:55:39 | *Aramil looks almost saddened by the fact that he did not recieve anything, but then he remembers how much gold he has back home and is not saddened any more. He waits for the priests word on what he'll have to do to pay back the 'debts'. |
| #305zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 15:07:33 | Boirin blushes at the priest's words when he realises that they are ment for him to keep. .oO(Stupid, stupid, stupid, some day you'll figure it out Boirin) |
| #306zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 16:52:02 | The priestess waits a moment, and as Boirin does not answer she turns back to Aramil. Thank you, also, for raising the stone from the pool. It will allow the master stonecarvers to repair the shrine that much more quickly. We will send to you in Garic's City when the details of repaying your debt have been decided. For now, I would invite you to ready yourselves for your return home, while we pray over Ulerian. The sooner the rite is completed, the sooner he can recover his strength for the journey. |
| #307zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 17:07:53 | Boirin tucks the potions into his bandoleer and ties the pouch to his belt. He turns to his companions. "I guess we should go get packed." |
| #308zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 18:30:21 | Boirin heads back to their lodgings and begins to pack his belongings for the journey back home. |
| #309zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 19:18:01 | *Aramil bows to the priestess as she gives him the details about repaying his debt. Then he gives a heartfilled nod to Boirin, since his spirits are rising, they get to go home, and Ulerian is comming back. "Yes Boirin, that tis a very good idea." |
| #310taggiivJun 10, 2004 21:37:11 | Tagg accepts the wand with a thank you, and then secures it in his belt. He nods politely at the priestess after her words and then turns to the others in his party. The elf follows the others to their rooms and gathers together his things. Soon, he has everything packed away, and, after double checking everything is in fact packed away, is ready to get back home. |
| #311zombiegleemaxJun 10, 2004 22:25:08 | Boirin is finished packing and looks around waiting for things to happen. Cracking knuckles and neck Boirin begins to go through a series of stretches. After a minute or two he touches the ground next to his toes with the palms of his hands, his legs locked. He locks his hands together and steps over them, then brings them behind his back and over his head without letting go. When his arms are in front of him he then bends over backwards, places his hands on the ground behind his feet and slowly brings his feet off the ground into a handstand, then after a few seconds he rests his feet back on the ground behind his hands and brings himself erect again, facing the same direction. |
| #312zombiegleemaxJun 11, 2004 11:16:28 | The door closes behind the three adventurers, and the sound of furniture being moved around commences. Some time later, Ulerian's face twists into a grimace, followed by a groan. He shudders, rolls onto his side, and then forces himself upright. "Wha--? Where?" Calm yourself, sir. You slew the beast, and your companions are safe. You may join them in the morning, when you have regained your strength. Ulerian stares at the priestess, considering this information. After a moment his eyes narrow, and he replies, "Then the job is done. I'd like to be paid now, if you don't mind." One of the onlookers gasps, and the priestess seems briefly disconcerted. Oh... but... Oh. Well, the debt for your raising is Aramil Dunskar's... "Quite. I did the job, and now I want to be paid." Very well, then. She rummages through some packs, muttering to herself. Here. This is a potion of healing, and this is a protection. Be aware that you will dismiss the aura if you take offensive action while it is protecting you. Most creatures will be unable to strike you while it is active, but some will be able to overcome the effect. And, as you may have equipment that needs repair, this gold should cover your expenses. Ulerian hefts the pouch in his hand, then tucks it through his belt. He stows the vials in a pouch after noting their markings, and bows his head curtly to the priestess. "Very good." I will leave you to Hegnus' care now. Our thanks, again, for your brave actions. Ulerian's lip curls slightly, but he tilts his head again. She gestures to Hegnus, who steps forward and escorts Ulerian to a quiet guest room. When morning arrives, the wizard joins Aramil, Boirin and Tagg at the breakfast table. |
| #313zombiegleemaxJun 11, 2004 16:15:34 | *When Aramil finally wakes up in the morning he gets up and stretches. He goes to his pack and makes sure that he got everything together then he walks around a bit, when he finally sees Ulerian standing at the doorway. He rubs his eyes to make sure that he isn't seeing a ghost and when he is sure that he isn't a wide grin spreads across his face, he immediatly goes over to Ulerian and bows before him. "How do ye feel? Ye did a job well done on killin' the monster, or so I heard, I was still knocked out while ye... ah... died......" *Aramils face grows grim as he finishes his sentence but then he shakes his head to regain him composure. "I've been meaning ter tell ye something, I'm sorry fer being mean ter ye when we were traveling together, and I ask you know if ye can fergive me so that we may become friends?" *Aramil bows to Ulerian again in hopes that he might be able to forgive him. |
| #314zombiegleemaxJun 11, 2004 20:26:08 | Ulerian sits and pack and lights his pipe before replying, which he does in his usual cold whisper. "There is no need for your appology Aramil. I am much weaker than before, but in time I will regain my strength. My master chose life once again for me....."he trails off with a couple of pulls on his pipe. "The dwarf preistess gave me a reward, Do you also have a share for me?" |
| #315zombiegleemaxJun 12, 2004 17:33:28 | *Aramil smiles to Ulerian and bows again. Then he listens to him and slowly shakes his head. "No, but Hegnus might give us something else when we get back to Garics, which we should do when you feel up to it." |
| #316taggiivJun 12, 2004 22:28:05 | Tagg smiles when Ulerian is among their presence again, and cannot help but appreciate the wonders of the priests' magic. He also cannot help but feel a bit odd to be looking at someone, talking and moving, who he had once seen dead... "Welcome back, Ulerian.." "So, eh, do you remember everything you did before? That's a bad question though, since if you don't remember you wouldn't know.." "Well, er, do you feel the same? Wait that doesn't quite work either..." He tries to find a question to inquire with, still in a bit of disbelief. |
| #317zombiegleemaxJun 13, 2004 22:39:23 | "I feel the same, but am weaker. I will regain my strength. I am travel ready now however, no need for delay." Ulerian stops talking, pausing in thought. "I remember all of it, until the end... after that, though, I know I went through something, a journey... I cannot recall anything from that time.. perhaps I am not allowed.. Regardless, we will all take that trip before long." |
| #318zombiegleemaxJun 14, 2004 12:13:19 | *Aramil stares at Ulerian, lost in his own thoughts about what Ulerian just said. Then he shrugs, gives a nod to the group and then speaks to them. "Well if we are all ready ter head back then I suggest we start right now, we'll take it slowly so that it won't be to much work fer Ulerian. *With that Aramil goes to Hegnus and explains to them that they are heading back to Garics, and that he might return here one day. He will also await for word from the priests and preistesses once he returns. He bows to Hegnus then he leads the others back the way they came so that they will once be back again in Garics City. |

"I'm proud of all of ye, ye did very well on this adventure, especially ye Ulerian. Now there is only one more stop ter make and then we can get back ter our lives. I hope that I shall see all of ye in the future. *Aramil bows to Ulerian, Tagg, and Boirin seperatly and then once he is done he leads them off to the Hungry Pelican so that they can talk to Hegnus. On the way there Aramil has mixed emotions about this meeting because he does not know how this will go over with Hegnus and the other dwarves, he hopes that it will not be the same as with the other Hegnus and the priests and priestesses..... .oO(So much fer gaining respect and recognition from the dwarves in the city.....) |
