Well-ordered display racks, lined with finely crafted weapons, and stands displaying suits of armor, take up most of the space in the armory. Weapons and armor are manufactured out back, and, for the right amount of gold, can be made to order...

Most common martial weapons are permanently in stock. If you're after one of those, just assume you are served. If you want to place an order, do so, and then notify the DMs via the DM thread. A DM will see to it as soon as chance allows.

Masterwork items can be commissioned based on a Craft check modifier of +21 for armor and most weapons, except for bows (including crossbows) and ammunition for bows, which are produced at a Craft check modifier of +16. Refer to the information thread for calculation of production rates, or PM ST for assistance if you have trouble calculating it, and he'll probably have an answer to you within a day.

For those looking to sell or trade, the rates are as follows: The shopkeeper will buy armor and weapons for 40% of the stated PHB value, but will offer 75% of stated value for trade-ins. This is, of course, assuming the gear is in good condition.

(This is the first IW thread to appear on this board - and only the second such thread ever. The first can be found here.)

New information has been added to this post on 14Jan04.

*walks to the shop by herself, to save time*

*picks out a light crossbow and 40 bolts*

*pays the man and heads back out, packs away the bolts and hands Alissa the crossbow*

I'll show you how to use this on the way. It's very simple.

*looks to Amarandios*

We're ready now.

Blight will have to stay outside. We can carry the items in with us.

*she picks up the chainshirt and the sword and Jaer grabs the bag with the braces in it and they walk inside*

*she walks up to the counter and places the items on it and waits for the armorer*

"Let's have a look then."

The young man frowns when looking over the various items, taking a lot of time inspecting the chain shirt specifically.

"This is... interesting. The quality is up to our standards, if only average, but the design is downright awkward. Might I ask where you got this?"

*she raises an eyebrow and lowers the hood of her cloak*

Well we got the chainshirt from an awkward gnome...as well as the sword and the braces..he had an a strange ability to become very large..maybe 3-4 times his normal size.

Why is there something wrong?
#8

zombiegleemax

Jul 24, 2003 13:49:15
"Well, this armour could be worn by someone of a height varying from that of your friend to four times as tall and everything in between. Not by magic, simply by design. Unfortunately, that means it's not as good as a comparable one that's fitted to a specific person. I don't see us selling this to anyone, except maybe a crazy collector.

The sword is apparently much the same, although not quite as awkward. The balance could be better, but it's serviceable."
#9

zombiegleemax

Jul 24, 2003 13:52:49
*she nods*

Alright. How much can you give me for the sword and do you know of anyone that would by the chainshirt?

*she raises an eybrow*

What do you say on the braces?

Jul 24, 2003 14:02:12
"The sword? A couple of golds, no more. Let's say three, just because the master armorer might be interested in drawing up a design sheet for his collection. I could throw in two more if you're willing to accept store credit.

The braces are worthless to us. They're simply leather and serve no purpose other than as an accessory - and they're rather worn too, at that.

A buyer for the shirt? No offense, mistress, but if I knew of one I wouldn't tell you. This is a business, after all - I'm not about to miss out on a commission. But to give you an idea, the only ones interested would be persons with the ability to change size you described, and I hadn't even heard of such a trick before today, or an armorer with a curiosity for strange designs. I could offer you a score and a half of golds for it. We'll likely study the design, take it apart and use the materials for something a bit more in demand."
#11

zombiegleemax

Jul 24, 2003 14:09:24
*she nods*

I didn't think they would have been worth much of anything because of their condition.

*she thinks for a moment*

Ok..let's do that and I'll give you the braces since I don't have any use for them anyway.
#12

zombiegleemax

Jul 24, 2003 14:18:31
"You'll be selling both of those items then? For cash, or would you like a store credit line?

As for the braces, we'll just throw them out. If you know someone with a dog, he might use them as a chew toy."

The man shrugs.

"Fine, cash it is. That'll come down to 33 golds then. Wait here please, I'll be right back."

The assistant goes through a door in the back of the shop and returns a few minutes later with 2 platinum and 13 gold pieces.

"Here you go, mistress. Thank you for your patronage."

As he makes to pick up the braces, Jaer beats him to it.

"I think I know someone who wouldn't mind a chew toy. Thank you, shopkeep."

The paladin's patience wavers before regaining its grip. "In simplest terms?" he says, and then ticks off a list:

"I don't want you to do anything that you'll regret. I want you to see things clearly. I want you to look before you leap. I want you to be safe and well. I want you to mourn properly. I want you to bear in mind that the Mother might not allow Alissa to come back. I want you to talk to Natala. I want you to look into Alissa being preserved longer before a decision is made. I want you to know that I consider us to be friends, I'm worried about you right now, and I will be damned if I won't try to help you out, whatever it is you really need."

"No. I'm not giving up on you, and I'm not done."

Gamis answers her step forward, placing himself deliberately in range if she chooses to strike him, with every intention of turning the other cheek.

"How do you know that? How? How do you, a woman who professes very often that she doesn't understand magic, only her swords and how to swing them, know that she might not be content in the next world? How do you know she--or any of us--even remembers this life where she is now?

"Death comes for us all."

It occurs to Gamis that, in her state, she just might try to bring it to him, but he merely sets his jaw.

Amarandios, who has been seething, steps out from behind Gamis and unleashes his own feelings. He stops slouching and draws up to his own considerable full height. His skin nearly glows with sweat and anger. His face has a darker grey tinge as he speaks.

All right, I've seen enough! You haven't considered her wishes or your friends' wishes. What kind of a sister are you? You won't go through a divine intermediary and talk to her? Ask her? You're a selfish, sniveling, overprotectivce, whiny little child, and if you think I'm going to help you bring Alissa back so that she can sleep under your wing, think again.

I am loyal to my friends, miss. I am. Your sister was my friend and remains my friend. I admit that I don't know much about the way the priests of Ordometrex work, but if it is the will of the Mother that she be asked before returning, then you have no right to charge around biting the heads off those levelheaded people who care and who want the right thing to be done.

What right to her have you? What right do you have to call yourself her sister and not her possessor if you don't care the least about her will? Calm your tongue. Apologize to your friends. Sit and think about what should happen. Go to Natala. Or forsake the help of the priests, and of heaven.

If you should wish to kill me in the full view of these people, then do so. Rot away as an evil mind twisted by your own lack of compassion and will to understanding!

What Keiran sees upon entering is a tall, immensely strong looking man in a chain shirt attending to a bent over, blueskinned man in modified regalia of the clerics of Agathalos. He has a huge bruise on his jaw that is swollen purple against his skin. Despite his injuries, he is looking enraged and indignant. He glares at Keiran upon entering and then softens his glance and mellows.

I'm afraid you've come in at a bad time, friend.

He looks down at the dog, and gives it a friendly wave, momentarily checking his shirt to see if he has any food for the creature, then finds that he doesn't and looks at him dissappointedly.

"You forgot reckless and arrogant on that list, Brother. I commend your bravery.

"This should take the edge off of that, and make sure you'll be able to speak tomorrow." The silver glow snaps into life around his hand, and Gamis presses his fingertips against the blooming bruise, arresting the swelling before it can get hold.

[lay on hands +3 hp]

He looks at his hand, and flexes it as the glow vanishes, when suddenly he hears a furious bellow from behind him.

Shopkeep:
"Just what was that about?! Get the hells out of my shop, before I call the guards! Does this look like the common room at Trundle's?!" Bozart, red-bearded dwarf and master smith, can be seen at his elbow, glaring darkly from under his great eyebrows, gloved hands clamped around a cross-peen and a glowing iron that he's barely started working.

Gamis opens a hand in an attempt to be placating. "Sorry, Shopkeep. Aria isn't--"

Shopkeep:
"OUT!!!"

The paladin sighs and helps Amarandios straighten up. "Alright, Shopkeep. We're going." He turns a strained smile on Kieran and Chester. "He's a good dog," the paladin offers as he and the priest leave the Iron Wolf.

Kywyn eyes the imposing weapon with some suspicion. He holds it in his hands and spins his wrist a few times to feel the weight.

"It wouldn't hurt to have," he agrees with Nashae.

Kywyn hefts the shafted weapon once more in his hands. He had played with simple ones before, staffs and cudgels and small blades, but he had never wielded one against a living opponent. He takes a moment to consider why that is.

Promptly, Kywyn hands the morningstar back to NaShae. He flexes his hands when she goes to make the purchase, reminding himself he has his own weapons.

Afterwards, Kywyn walks after NaShae, glad to see her with her spirits apparently lifted for the time being.

*Hands folded together in front of her, she looks closely at the various weapons, without touching. Somewhere in the back of her conciousness, she slowly becomes aware of Minto chatting merrily with someone -- probably the weaponsmith.*

*She comes across the sort of items she is looking for -- hammers, flails, maces. She looks closely at them all, dismissing some immediately. As she goes through the various weapons, she keeps returning to a beautifully crafted Dwarven Waraxe, despite that its not the sort of weapon she is looking for at the moment.*

*She finds a warhammer in the mix with beautiful etchings on the blade.*

.oO(Ahhh, look at that hammerr! It's lovely! The handle coould use some design, but Ah kin take carre of that with some carrvin'. But, is the weapon itself any good? It woouldn't do teh have it fail meh in the middle of an undead battle -- orr any battle ferr that matterr.)

*She turns to the sound of the voices, which silence as she turns. She asks if she may check the hammer, test it, get its feel. The man smiles... of course, he says. He approaches her position and takes up the hammer, holding the head in one hand and the handle in the other, presenting it to her. She smiles and takes the proferred weapon. She hefts it from hand to hand, testing its weight and balance, then, satisified, she sets her position and, carefully so as not to break anything .oO(Oy, Mrrs. Weatherrby's kitchen...), she swings it around. When she brings her arm to rest, she is grinning. She then checks the weapon itself over and, finding nothing wrong with it, asks for its price.*

"Will it be a trade for that fine axe at your side?"

*Brodda blinks, her hand dropping to her side and touching the battleaxe.*

"Oh! Heavens no, lad! Ah'm not rready teh give up me axe just yet! Noo, just a dirrect purrchase, if the prrice isn't too high."

*The man chuckles respectfully and nods. He quotes the price of the warhammer, to which she unashamedly overreacts about how costly everything is in this town and makes a counteroffer. The man mirthfully laughs at her offer, muttering something (good-naturedly, of course) about the stinginess of dwarves. The pair go 'round and 'round for a few turns, while Minto looks on, somewhat amused, yet anxious to continue their errands.*

*Finally they agree on a price for the hammer, laughing and shaking hands, and Brodda hands over the gold pieces. She takes her new hammer, thanks the man, and dwarfess and halfling head out of the armory and to the Market Square.*

While Brodda is trying out her mace, Minto chats with Shopkeep.

"I think I'm going to need a pair of maces as well. I doubt Hermy will remember to pick one up."

"Oh, I won't be needing anything fancy. Small maces if you have them. Hopefully we will be able to use our swords but you never know right?"

Minto doesn't bother hagling. He just shows his pin and hands over the coin.

Once he has the two maces, he waits for Brodda to finish her negotiations and then exits out with her.

Tagg can eventually see the armory, right where Mrs Weatherby had indicated it would be. He walks up to the door and enters the building. Inside is a big room, filled with racks of armor and weapons, and some bows hanging near the ceiling. The wall behind the counter is lined with quivers of arrows and other ammunition. At the end of the room are two other entryways, more stockrooms Tagg was sure. He approaches the counter, where the shopkeeper is inspecting what looks like a small axe.

"Hello there."

*the shopkeeper looks slowly up from the axe and eventually meets eyes with Tagg*
"What can I do for you?"

*Tagg lifts up the javelin and sets it on the counter next to the axe*
"Im trying to get rid of this, thought I could get something for it."

*the man lifts the javelin, stares at it for a few minutes, then replies with his verdict*
"What happened to this thing? looks like it was shoved through a tree... oddly the point is dull... yet its strangely intriguing. ill give you 5 silver for it, more than i should, no doubt."

"are there any other options?"

"Well, if you trade it in for something in our store, i can give you slightly more. 8 silver, maybe. If you cant afford anything just now, you can put that silver into store credit and use it towards a purchase in the future.

*Tagg eyes the room, looking for something he might like. He notices some nice blades, but then notices the price tag and turns his attention to something else.*

"Ill take the store credit, thank you."

*the shopkeeper records a few things on a nearby book*
"Ok, your credit is added. Next time you buy something you can use that."

"Thank you. Bye now."

Tagg walks out the door, and the shopkeeper looks at the javelin some more. Odd man, thought Tagg, as he strolls idly through the streets.

Stepping inside, glancing around, Mirielle smiles when she sees the shopkeep.

Goodday, sir. I was wondering if you'd had any inquiries towards an enchanted item?

"No, not recently. I haven't forgotten our agreement though. Have you given any further thought to that sword?"

Miri blushes a little.

Yes, I have. Um, I'd hoped to give it as a wedding gift, but... Well, no use waiting. Perhaps we could look at them?

Refraining from comment, the shopkeeper gestures Miri to the back room and unlocks the special cabinet.

Her eyes sparkle as she looks over the intricate steel, and they take out three swords for a closer look. Hefting one that resembles the blade Gamis carries, she sighs.

This is perfect. And such a pretty pattern to the steel...

"It's called the 'maidenhair' pattern, and I've only one smith that can do that."

If it isn't spoken for, I'd like this one.

"Then it's yours, Dame Dyer. 335 gold, all told."

She nods, and brings her leather satchel out from under her cloak.

It'll cost me a fair sight more when I've finished the enchantments, but here, I believe I brought that much...

Miri counts out the coins, and Shopkeep slides the sword into a plain sheath.

"A pleasure doing business with you, Dame Dyer."

Likewise, Mastersmith. And thank you!

Tagg after about twenty minutes reaches the Iron Wolf. Stepping inside and somewhat to his relief, a clerk different to that he had questioned earlier resides behind the counter, turned around and appears to be examining some arrows hung on the wall behind him.

"Hello there..?"

The elf says in a half question to get the shopkeeper's attention as he begins to take the shield off his back. The clerk appears to have already known Tagg's presence but had not bothered to turn around since he calmly turns around and faces him after the call.

"May I help you?"

Tagg carefully continues to take the shield off, finding points to grab at it with his hands in between the spikes. He manages to get it off, and he walks up to the clerk and sets it in front of him.

"Yes. I'm interested in selling this."

Watching the shopkeeper start to examine the piece with bored eyes, he quickly remembers to add in a piece of information that might help the price he gets for it go up.

"For store credit, that is."

The clerk continues to examine it, seemingly ignoring the comment.

After several moments of silence, the shopkeeper slowly gives his verdict.

"Okay.. At least the metal seems in fairly good condition, the shield itself looks poorly made shaped though... But nonetheless.. "

The shopkeeper looks like he thinks some more before giving his amount

"I could give you 14 gold for it and two silver pieces to be exact."

Tagg nods and the clerk readies a quill by dipping it in ink, opens a leatherbound book nearby, and asks for his name before continuing.

"Tagg. I already have a small amount of credit under this name."

The clerk flips through the book's pages for several more moments until he spots the name. He writes some notes next to it before putting the quill down.

"Okay, all updated... You have 15 gold total credit now. Would you like to use that now or do you wish to save it for another day?"

"Just a moment.."

Tagg turns around and starts to slowly walk around the store browsing what they have available.

.oO( Ok.. I don't really need any more swords.. Ew.. maces.. barbaric devices.. Bows, little big there..)

Tagg looks over the longbows and sees they are nearly the size of his whole body and would seem unmanageable. Walking slightly further he enters a section of shorter bows. Taking a closer look he examines the types of wood, in the end choosing out a sturdy looking piece. Picking it up, he bends the string back and makes as though firing an arrow, testing the balance, weight, and flexibility.

.oO( Heh. We used to have contests using bows much like this back at home.. If I remember correctly I use to do pretty decent in those.. I wonder if I still have such skill)

After a few moments of such examination, he holds it up for the clerk to see.

"How much would this cost?"

"75 gold pieces. With credit you'd need to provide 60 out of your own pocket."

Tagg checks his pocket and sees he brought only a small amount of coins, not sufficient to cover the cost. He brings the bow to the counter.

"I'm afraid I don't have the money on me right now, but I look forward to purchasing this. Perhaps put it on hold if you feel it necessary. I will be back some time today with the money to pick it up."

The shopkeeper nods and with a short farewell Tagg heads out the door and hits the streets.

Stepping inside, Tagg sees the same clerk as before behind the counter, this time doing nothing and seems to be thinking about usomething... That or he's bored and he's staring a hole through the far wall.

"Hello again, I believe we met this morning."

The opening words seem to snap the clerk out of his trance, albeit a delayed reaction. After a moment he slowly turns his head to see Tagg.

"Yes I believe we did.."

"I am here to purchase that shortbow, if I remember correctly yew handle? Do you still have it?"

"Yes we do, there've been no customers to take it away.."

The clerk gives what sounds like a muffled sigh at the mention of no business all day.

"It's back on the shelf over there."

The clerk indicates the section of shortbows over on the wall with a slight gesture of his hand. Tagg nods and goes over to examine them. After a couple moments he manages to pick out what he is confident was the piece he chose earlier. Bringing it to the counter he places it in front of the clerk, who does nothing and simply looks to him, obviously waiting for money before preparing the item. The elf takes off his backpack, opens it, and begins counting out the coins. After long enough he gets all of the coins out and has them piled on the counter. The shopkeeper counts through them once before beginning to extract them to somewhere unseen to the public beneath the counter.

"That was an equivalency of 60 gold.. I presume you wish to use your credit to cover the rest?"

"Yes."

The clerk opens the leatherbound book and searches for Tagg's name in the pages. He takes his quill and runs a neat line through the notes next to his name.

"Okay the bow is all paid for. Now would you like some arrows with that?"

Tagg's face goes straight as he realizes he did not bring extra money in the backpack.

.oO( How could you forget to bring money to pay for ARROWS when you're going to buy a BOW?? )

.oO( Wait! I still might have some coins in my pocket from earlier.)

He quickly searches through his pockets and manages to scrounge up a couple gold coins.

"How much do they cost?"

"Well plain arrows cost one gold per quiver, which contains twenty units of ammunition."

Tagg places a single gold coin on the counter.

"Does this pay for only the arrows or does the quiver come with? And if not how much does one cost?"

The clerk removes a quiver off the back wall and presents it to Tagg then takes the single coin and puts it with the rest of the money.

"We'll throw one in complimentary."

"Thanks."

"Anything else?"

"That'll be it."

The clerk nods and seems to lose attention again. Tagg pulls the backpack over his back again and picks up the bow and quiver and walks out the door, retracing his steps back to the boarding house.

Afternoon. I'd like to sell these weapons and purchase something bit more suitable for me. I'm also interested in buying a new suit of thin armor for myself.

Shopkeep: Afternoon, sah. Of course, of course. Allow me a moment to estimate their value and I'll tell you what I can give for them.

Thanks.

*With an eye after the woman, Thosar steps up to the counter.*

"Good day, sir. I wanted to order some high quality items, a heavy shield and thirty crossbow bolts."

*The bald man puts the money away as he speaks.*

"Heavy shield will be 157 gold, the bolts will be 21 gold. All money must be paid up front."

.oO(Still a little irratated by that woman I see. Well, I suppose I can't blame you.)

"That won't be a problem. How long will it be before I can pick them up?"

"Two weeks. Could be a little more. Leave where you can be reached and we'll send a runner, if you want. That'll cost another gold though."

*Thosar smiles as he puts a coin pouch on the counter-top.*

"But of course. Here is 180, in case the runner takes a while to find me."

*Thosar leans closer and gives the man his name and where he can be located. After that he nods and heads toward the door.*

"Thank you for your time sir and I look forward to recieving word of the items' completion."

*A jingle follows the elf out the door.*

Tyros enters the Inn slightly amazed at the display racks, filled with weapons of all sorts and sizes. He notices a small dagger and takes it, with the permission of the shopkeeper, and makes a few moves with it, testing it's quality.

.oO(I could surely use one of these for retrieving the meat of a hunt instead of the blunt edge of a rock. Then again... I might take two, just in case.)

After talking to the shopkeep, Tyros buys 2 daggers and hangs one of them in his waist belt and the other in his right boot. He pays for the daggers (4 gp) and leaves.

From The Market Square

*Thosar walks into the Iron Wolf and looks around for the balding man. Finding him behind the counter, Thosar approaches.*

"Greetings. I ordered some high quality bolts and a heavy shield a while ago. My name is Thosar. I was wondering if they were finished yet."

*The man shuffles a couple of papers behind the counter, then nods and walks into the back of the store. A moment later he emerges with three short quivers filled with bolts.*

"There you are Mr Lueque. I hope they are to your expectations."

*After placing the quivers on the counter, the balding man fishes in a coin pouch for a moment and places a gold piece on the counter.*

"I owe you that as well. The messenger didn't cost nearly one gold and I overcharged you. I won't except it back either."

*Thosar nods, takes the coin and the quivers.*

"The shield won't be finished for the another few days. I'll send that messenger for you when it's ready."

"Thank you sir. I appreciate the integrity and the fine workmanship. I'll await the messenger. Good day to you."

*Putting the coin in his coin pouch, the elf leaves the store.*

*Pushing his stack of papers under the counter, the man nods.*

*He moves into the back and returns shortly with a finely crafted heavy shield and places it on the counter.*

"There you are. I was just reviewing my paperwork and you have already paid for it, so it's all yours."

*Thosar picks up the shield and examines it for a moment. He straps it to his forearm and practices a few defensive moves with it.*

.oO(Even better than I thought. It takes much less to move around. Quite the bit of workmanship.)

*He unstraps the shield and slings it over his shoulder. he reaches into his belt-pouch and retrieves 5 gold pieces.*

"As fine a piece of workmanship I have ever seen. Please this tip as my thanks.*

*The bald man smiles and chuckles.*

"I've never been one to turn down a tip. I appreciate it Mr. Lueque. Come back anytime."

*The bald man puts the coins away and retrieves his paperwork.*

Around noon.

Enters the store and waits few minutes looking at the assorted weapons hanging on the walls. When the group of three adventure-clad customers finally depart, makes his way to the counter.

Good day. I might be interested in purchasing a chain-link torso armor.

Shopkeeper: "Good day, sir. And certainly, that's one of most popular types of the armor, we have few always in store. Though, at the moment we even have one of exceptional make."

How much would that better one cost? I have 245 gold coins' worth of in-store credit in here.

Shopkeeper: "I'm afraid that isn't enough, though, sir, you are only lacking few gold pieces. Maybe a cash-credit division?"

Shakes his head.

I think that's not possible right now as I'm running quite low on cash. I think I'll take one of those normal ones then. My credit should cover that, right?

Shopkeeper: "Yes, indeed. Normal armor costs 100 gold. Anything else you would like?"

Hmm... maybe one of those crossbows and a case of bolts.

Shopkeeper: "Okay. Just a minute."

The shopkeep gathers the items to the counter and digs out a thick ledger. Tipping an ink pen to a bottle, he opens the book.

Shopkeeper: "Your name, sir?"

Enelevin, Codrian.

Shopkeeper: "Thank you, sir. Yes, 245 gold credit. After these purchases your balance will be 105 gold."

Thank you. And goodbye.

Shopkeeper: "Goodbye, master Enelevin."

Gathers the new equipment from the counter and leaves. Heads back to NMS.

Ran hops in, the supplies he bought at the market under one arm. He makes a bow, a bit awkward because of the things he's carrying and asks for a quiver of arrows for a longbow. The store always has a good supply of these, so the elf is served immediately. Ran is in and out of the store in less than two minutes.

Five silvers... And I spent a little over a gold and a half at the market. That'll leave me about 2 golds, if I take 6 for the rent.

But this is an official guild mission. I'll be earning a bit of cash, so nothing to worry about. Good.

*Aramil finally enters the Iron Wolf Armory, after some time of walking through the streets of Garics City. He enters into the shop and heads up to the head shopkeep, who in turn sees him adn greets him.

"Good day to you master dwarf, what can I do for you today?"

"Aye, I have been told that I would be able ter place orders here to get some raw material that I need ter create a special armor. Can I?"

*The man smiles and nods his head.

"Yes you can, but if this is a special material it will take longer for it to arrive then most other raw materials. What type of material do you need?"

"Thats good ter hear. And the material I need is mithril, a very strong metal if worked right, but it's as light as a feather also. I have a speacial order to make a chain shirt out of it. So how long will it take ter get it?"

*The man thinks for a while and then answers Aramil.

"Well mithril is not an easy material to come by, I'm going to have to make a special order for this, and to tell you the truth it could take up to a week or more for it to arrive, but tell me where I can find ye and I'll send word for you when it arrives. And ye say that its a chain shirt yer dealing with, well that will be....... 397 gp fer the raw materials. Ye can pay now or when it arrives."

*Aramil has a mixed reaction when he hears that it will be a while before he can start making the main armor. He shrugs his shoulders and pulls out his money bag and starts counting. Once he gets up to the amount his wants he gives it to the shopkeep with a note telling him where he can find Aramil. Then Aramil closes up his money bag, puts it back into his bag, then bows to the shopkeep and heads back to the SSAG.

Boirin heads into the armory from the market square. For once he browses, he walks among the isles of weapons. The smith comes out from the back and asks the simple question of,

"May I help you?"

"I just browsing I'm not sure what I..."

As he is about to say the last words, a weapon catches his eyes. Its the smallest crossbow hes ever seen. It seems just big enough to fit in his hands. Its small handle with a trigger.

"What's this?"

"Its a hand crossbow, takes some training to use one, since its so small. I've seen some that could use them. Would you like to try it?"

"Sure."

Boirin is led to a small place from which to fire the crossbow. He’s handed the tiny weapon and an equally tiny bolt. Boirin loads the small thing aims with one hand. Its very light he notices, no problems with the one hand thing. Any way he takes aim and fires. Thunk. The bolt protrudes from the second ring from the center.

"Nice shot. You seem to already know how to use this."

"It seems like a crossbow just smaller. How much are they?"

"Well there not terribly easy to make, and you'd have to order one since this is the only one we've got in stock, its a show of what you can get. If you want a piece that will work it'll be at least 100 gold. A real masterwork will take longer and cost more. You’re in luck though one will be completed in three days. So if you pay now you can come back then and get your new weapon.”

Boirin looks slightly embarrassed,

”I don’t carry that kinda money on me. So if you give a couple minutes to run to my lodgings and grab it I can pay for it.”

“Sure.”

Boirin walks out the door and then breaks into a run. Five minutes later he returns with a much larger bag of money in his new cloak.

”Here’s the my money sir. It will take me awhile to count out the gold.”

After a few minutes there is a small pile, exactly 100 coins.

”There ah go sir.”

“Where can I find to you to tell you of the completion of your crossbow.”

”Uh Nobody’s Inn, I work there as the bartender.”

“When it is complete I will have someone, I’ll have someone come for you.”

Boirin heads out of the Armory feeling remarkbly more cheerfull.

"Ah, Ms. Corelli," says the shopkeep from the counter. "Why don't you clear that bench there for a bit of workspace? Then you can start with some arrows."

From the bench, Esmet asks, "Sir, how often would you like me to work here?"

"Well, dear, how often would you like to work here?"

"As much as possible, sir."

"Ah. Ambitious, are we? Then all right. You will work for me eight hours a day, five days a week," states the shopkeep and returns to his work.

Esmet smiles. "Thank you."

Once the bench is cleared and her tools are laid out before her, she begins her work. The practice yesterday seems to have brought back some confidence to her hands--that, or the extra rest overnight has steadied her fingers. Either way, today the task seems a little easier.

Catching Up to Present Time

As the hours pass, Esmet loses count of the arrows she's made.

The shopkeep glances briefly over stack of arrows. Nodding his approval, he bids her goodnight.

The next day, after four hours of arrow-making, the shopkeep asks her to start work on a shortbow.

Some of the following days follow that time pattern. Other days, she produces arrows for only two hours before returning to the shortbow. While she works, she chats with the shopkeep.

Five days later, she completes a shortbow. It looks to be a satisfactory piece of work, if still nowhere near her predecessor Amaelhin's level.

On Trijian, a week after she began work, she is presented most ceremoniously with her pay. She smiles, thanks her employer, and resumes work.

Present Time

Esmet clears her workspace and, nodding to the shopkeep, leaves the armory for Mrs. Weatherby's Boarding House.

Edit: Stupid me didn't know how to figure work rates... Thanks, ST!

(A brief moment in time…)

[From Beyond the walls.]

*Stepping into the armoury, arms laden with weapons, Tensek heads quickly into the back of the shop to the shopkeep’s desk. Dropping the longsword, bastard sword, and the masterfully crafted longbow in front of the man Tensek looks up at the shopkeep.*

Good day to you sir, I would like to trade these in.

Very well the total credit you can get from that is three hundred and eighteen, and seventy five silver. Is that alright?

Yes that is quite acceptable. But I would also like to requisition some specially made armor and a shield. Preferably a lighter wooden shield.

Well I can have it made for you but it will take 20 days.

That sounds quite acceptable. How much will the armor and shield cost me?

In total it will be three hundred and twenty-eight gold pieces. With the credit from these weapons you will still owe nine gold and twenty five silver.

Well if I am getting new armor I of course will not be needing my current suit so I will trade that in as well.

Very well than with the Armor thrown in you will have nine and a half gold worth of credit.

Excellent I shall be needing that to restock my arrows.

So if we’re done dealing we can step into the back room and I can take your measurements for your armor.

*With a nod Tensek follows the shop keep to a back room, after a few minutes the ranger steps out of the armoury and heads towards Nobody’s.*

Entering the armourer's shop, Maelut walks to the front counter. Placing the falchions and the armours on the table, he speaks with the shopkeeper for several minutes.

"I would like to sell these items, what can you offer?"

"Well, depends on if you want to trade them in or just take the gold."

"What could I get for these?"

"Well...this sword is in very fine condition, along with both of these sets of armour. Those, with an extra 12 golds and 5 silvers, could get you a freshly made chain shirt. The other blade I can give you a straight trade-in value of 30 gold. Altogether, you'd walk out of here with a good chain shirt and 17 golds and 5 silvers in your pocket. How does that sound to you?"

"Well...I'm not so sure. But maybe. May I see the shirt?"

"Certainly, I've got one here you can try on."

"It's heavier than what I'm used to, but feels like it would give much better protection than my old leathers. And overall, I still come out with more gold than I started with...so it sounds like a deal to me. I'll take it."

"Excellent, here is your money, and that shirt should keep you well protected from whatever comes your way."

"Thank you sir, I appreciate your help."

With his new chain shirt, and the extra money in his pocket, Maelut walks out of the shop and heads back towards where Codrian hopefully has some answers about his wand.

A stranger stumbles into the armory. His clothes are tattered, and he smells of filth and cheap wine. The beggar makes some noise as he nearly knocks over a display rack of shields. A young shop attendant looks to ask the man to leave but is unsure how to do so.

Luckily, Lieutenant Gerug of the City Guards happens to be in the store looking to get his armor repaired. The dwarf swaggers over to persuade the drifter to leave of his own accord.

“There we are, sir,” Gerug starts walking the man to the door.

“Bah,” the beggar man mutters before turning to spit on the armory assistant.

“You wretch!” the attendant screams while reaching for a weapon on the counter.

It happens to be a whip, and the young man wastes no time in letting the lash fall. Gerug tries to intervene, but the whip slashes the unprotected skin of the hobo who falls to his stomach in pain. The flaying continues and blood starts to drip freely even as Gerug attempts to seize the offending weapon.

“Stop!” shouts the lieutenant as the scuffle evolves into a wrestling match.

The stronger dwarf pushes back the employee, hoping to separate the two men. The maneuver works too well as the man trips backward and tumbles into a poorly placed rack of shortswords. A cacophony of clangs and thuds ensues. Before anyone can react, the shop assistant is haplessly impaled on a blade and no longer struggling.

Gerug freezes, not sure how things got to this point. He checks on the body, but it only serves to confirm his fears. Clearing away the swords, all Gerug can hear is his heart pounding in his eardrums. The guard knows the price of manslaughter.

The beggar staggers to his feet by this point and comes closer.

“Gawd, ya keel’d him,” the stench of alcohol grows stronger.

The drifter starts backing away from the black-haired dwarf and turns to run for the door.

Something inside Gerug snaps. Before he knows why, he is chasing down the beggar and knocking him off his feet with a tackle. The tip of the sword in Gerug's hand is promptly driven through the ragged man’s back. With a spasm, he expires.

Gerug’s hand trembles. Not from the deathblow, but from something more horrific. The guardsman realizes he didn’t want a witness. That was the reason before he knew what he was doing, but deep down, he knew. He knows.

It is all so easy now, all so logical. It is an inexorable chain of events of which he is a part. A leads to B leads to C, there's nothing to it.

The beggar would not be missed, that is facile enough. The shop assistant would be more of a problem, but a solvable one. First thing is first; Gerug has to get rid of the evidence. With some exertion, the guard drags the beggar to the back room, double-checking that there is no one else in the store. He returns for the assistant and pulls him out of sight as well. The blood is simple to wipe up and the displays can be set straight. The bodies... well, they would have to be dismantled and disposed of.

Gerug locates a saw-toothed dagger, a sword-breaker, and gets to the ghastly work. The armory is such a convenient location for this to unfold, part of the dwarf thinks.

"I didn't think you had it in you," a voice says to Gerug from some source.

"Why, neither did I."

The wet sawing noise is muffled by the guard's cheerful humming.

"Young man. I am no homeless vagrant. My cloths are in this state for I have recently slain several werewolves. I am here to order a weapon, and to trade in armor."

*The attendant looks greatly embaresed at this remark, and bows swiftly.*

"Excuse me sir. What armor are you going to be tradeing?"

*Jace retrives the banded mail and sets it down on a counter that the attendant, retreated behind.*

"I was told that Me and my partner would be able to get either 50 gold in coins or the equivilant of 93 gold in trade in. My partner may do as he wishs but I would like to order a silver longsword. So I will no longer have trouble with lycnthrope."

*The attendant examins the armor closely for a minute. Then he looks up*

*Once he sees that Aramil has left, Oskar enters into the armory and browses around a little bit, admiring the craftsmanship of some of the items. When he's seen enough he goes up to the head smith and sets his old items down on the table.

"I would like ter sell these items please."

*The smith looks up from his paperwork and scans the items a bit, noticing the fine craftsmanship and the detailed sketching he raises an eyebrow, then he lowers it quickly hoping that Oskar didn't catch that."

"Thank ye, and yes I was a dwarf, but I died and was brought back in this form, here's my pin of the Silver Sword if ye need more proof. And I'll wait here thank ye."

*The smith glances at the pin and nods his approval, then he goes in the back with Aramil's things and from the sounds of it talks to someone else in the back. There is some chanting that goes off, magical detection Oskar realizes, and then after about 30 minutes the smith comes back out and smiles at Oskar.

"These are really fine pieces of craftsmanship, may I ask why your brother is getting rid of them? Did he make new masterpieces for his use perhaps?"

"We were adventuring, and both of us perished fighting an evil lich, then Thalos the Lightbringer brought us back ter life ter fight more evil, and he gave me this new form, and me brudder came back as a bear. So he really has no use fer this armor anyways, and he can't use an axe or shield now. He is however lookin ter make a new armor, and we need some mithral fer that. If ye got any we'll buy it off ye."

"Well I'll have to check about the mithral, but first, let me tell you how much I can give you for these fine pieces of work. I can give you 2887 gp and 5 sp, but the majority of it i'll have to give you in amber if that's alright with you, however I won't have to fork over a lot of amber if you want to buy the materials for the new suit of armor now."

*Oskar thinks this over for a moment, then nods his head and agrees with him. He goes over what he wants to make and the specifications he'll need, along with how much mithral he'll need. The smith goes in the back again and talks with whoever else is in the back, after 10 minutes pass by he comes back out and speaks with Oskar.

"Alright we'll after all the costs for the mithral and the other materials you'll need to make this interesting suit of armor for a bear, I'll be able to give you 700 gp worth of amber, 31 gold pieces and 5 silver pieces. That sound ok with you?"

"Oh that sounds quite alright with me. Thank ye, when will I be able ter pick up me goods."

"Oh well contact ye at the Silver Sword, if you wait a moment I'll go get your money."

*With that the smith heads in the back yet again, and when he returns he comes back carrying a medium sized sack with 700 gp worth of amber, 31 gold pieces, and 5 silver pieces. He hands it to Oskar, who bows to him, and then Oskar heads outside to get Aramil.

"Well okay, but you need to take better care of a suit like this so it doesn't wear out on you. It could have done with a bit of buffing. I can fix it up easy enough but we don't get much call for gnome armor round here."

"Tell them this is Nanashi's armor and there will be a call!"

"Sure. Tell you what I'll do. I'll let you have the studded leather for this suit and another 15 gold."

Does that sound fair, Nanashi? It sounds like an awfully good bargain for this merchant.

"Nanashi accepts. Make sure you get a good price for it."

Oh ho ho! Nanashi has outsmarted the human! He sought to swindle Nanashi only now he will have to tell everyone how generous Nanashi can be!

"Done. I'll be right back with your new armor."

Yes, this is a much better suit, worth every piece of gold! Time to go show it off, Nanashi! To the streets! Oh ho ho!

I dream of steel, of metal covering my body, reconnecting the damaged parts so that I can continue fighting. The mutant spikes and shards that have grown out of bone and steel emulate something other.

It is dusk; the sun is almost gone for another day as a dark figure creeps along an alleyway. His torn grey wrappings flutter behind him as he moves past discarded barrels and crates and boarded-up windows. Skirting the perimeter of the lamplight, the hooded man crosses the street to the Iron Wolf Armory; a shopkeeper is at the door about to lock up.

Kywyn's even footsteps carry a slight echo.

"Ay, you startled me. We're closed-" says the stocky arms merchant, his long brown hair in tangles around his face.

When the man turns around, he squints to make out Kywyn's outline to the side of the light from the lamp next to the door. Kywyn hunches down and twists to the side, staying in the shadow for a moment before stepping forward.

The merchant freezes for a instant, assessing the situation, unsure if he should be hurrying back inside the shop.

"Ah, can I help you?" he asks cautiously.

Kywyn remains mute but gestures by crossing his arms over his chest and drawing them down, proceeding to point to his shoulders, arms, and legs in sequence.

"Huh? Listen-" the merchant starts.

*Jace walks by in the dusky light and glances at the scene. A cloaked and shadowy man guesturing about his person and the store keeper a bit confused by the actions.*

A small frog croak alerts Kywyn to turn around, which he does slowly. The dim orange glow of the light behind him casts his face into shadow under his hood.

"He-dis zis...?" Kywyn hisses quietly and lowers his pose.

The store worker backs away a bit to gain some distance from the two strangers.

"Um, gents, I could let you in to take a look if you have something in mind before I close up?"
the messy-haired man tries to defuse any tension.

.oO(What in the world???)

*Jace addresses the owner.*

"Are you ok sir?"

*Jace takes a few steps forward, approcing as if he was approching a horse, his head to the side and shoulders not quite straight forward. His hands are slowely taken out of his pockets and laid to rest straight at his side. When he is about 10 feet from Kywyn he stops, and waits.*

The hooded man is still as a statue while Jace moves. The merchant shrugs to the newcomer.

Eventually, Kywyn's icy calm stare turns back to the merchant and the door. Pointing to the shop questioningly, Kywyn indicates with a slight tilt of his head. The merchant nods and opens the door for both men enter.

Kywyn looks back to the elf before walking slowly inside.

The merchant says to Jace in hushed tones, "I don't know if that other fellow is all there. Maybe he's just not from around here."

Kywyn drifts along the rows of shafts and blades, somehow the weapons seem insubstantial to him. He follows the shelves until he reaches a section with suits of armor. He beings examining some of the boiled leather pieces.

The merchant takes his post behind the counter and observes the two late customers.

Some clinks and clanks can be heard as Kywyn pushes aside a few smaller, unfinished blades.

"'preciate it, son," the armorer taps his fingers on the wooden counter surface.

Kywyn approaches the counter, dragging a half-finished, black leather cuirass behind him. In his other gauntlet, he holds a number of spiked studs. He places them gingerly on the counter, like laying down a child with both arms.

The black-clad man arranges the spikes around the leather piece. Next, he reaches into his satchel and flips through some paper, pulling out a sheet and putting it on the counter.

Kywyn pulls back his hood, revealing a pale face and shortish, dark hair. It reassures the merchant he is dealing with a human at least. Kywyn points to the sketch which appears to be a diagram of a segmented leather breastplate similar to the one on the counter. There are spikes in a row across the top of the chest and a spiked shoulder ring piece.

"Hmmm," the other man considers from across the counter.

*Seeing Kywyn face scratches at Jace's memory again even harder then before.*

.oO(ARG...bloody memory...)

*Jace looks at the sketch of Kywyns new armor and ponders it for a while. Something clicks in his mind.*

.oO(The style is the same as the picture in my room.)

*Jace's mind does a familar rush through a scene without sound. A man in the market square sketching for children. The old Jace moves up and speaks with him. The man wears white and begins to scratch at the paper with a piece of charcoal. After some time the picture from his room is handed over with a smile. More talking then its over.*

.oO(Well that is a change...for some reason I see him in white...not black leather, shrouded in a black cloak...Something has happened to him.)

"I belive that I know you....sometime before I lost my memory. You were wearing white, and drawing pictures in the market square. You however cannot recognize me...I have changed a great deal."

Kywyn glances up to Jace, eyes ghost empty. Without turning back to the armoerer, Kywyn taps the drawing.

"Yeah, if that's what you're looking for it can be done. Will cost some though... Like sixty gold about. You understand me? Sixty? Six, zero?" the long haired man holds up five fingers and a thumb and then makes an O-shape with his hand.

Kywyn looks back and seems to attempt to take in the information. The cloaked figure taps the paper more lightly.

"Will take some time too, if you're not in a rush, I can see what I can do," the smith holds up the paper, seeming to grow a bit more intrigued by the design.

A black frog appearing out of the shadow of Kywyn's cloak and shoulder keeps his gold eyes on Jace.

Kywyn pauses as Jace explains. Whether the pale man comprehends or not is indecipherable as Kywyn steps back from the counter.

Kywyn keeps walking into a shadowed corner. He pulls up his hood, and Jace can almost see Kywyn's outline fading slightly into the half-light only to sharpen again.

Kywyn raises a hand to lightly touch the back wall. There are rows of longswords and hafted weapons to either side. Kywyn slowly turns around to see the elf following him.

"This is a good sword, nothing particularly special but still good quality."
