| #1shatteredtowerNov 15, 2005 23:41:25 | Natala's Mystic Store is located several blocks north of the Market Square, very near the Temple of Ordemetrex and directly across from a public park. Pushing through the curtain of beads just inside the door, you see a room in which every surface is crowded with mystic items. Incense smoke hangs heavy in the air. The shelves on the walls are arranged to make most efficient use of the space, but are still crowded so that the full collection of divine foci, spell components, incense burners, packets of herbs, spellbooks, parchment, inks in various colors, decks of cards, and more can all fit. A small desk is squeezed in near the entrance. On it stands a sign: Natala's Mystic Store Fortunetelling, Soothsaying, and Magic Merchandise On the wall behind the desk hangs a plaque, on which is engraved: To Natala: In thanks for her service to the Church of our Lord, Agathalos, and to that of his Mother, and indeed, to all of the citizens of Garic's City. By her efforts, a celebration was not turned into a cause for mourning, and a plague averted. There is an entrance to another room at the back of the shop, covered by a heavy curtain. Staff: Natala - Proprietor. Fortuneteller and healer. Tynk Waverstone - Alchemist; also helps in the shop proper on occasion. Codrian Enelevin - Assists in keeping the shop |
| #2zombiegleemaxNov 16, 2005 0:18:00 | The halfling bard strolls into the shop, a sack slung over his shoulder. He sniffs around at the air and then makes his way towards the counter. He clears his throat to get Codrians attention. "Haven't seen you around in awhile. I haven't seen Natala either for that matter, though considering the situations I usually need her assistance with that might be a good thing." Minto finds an empty spot on the counter and opens the bag. "I've got a lfew things here I'm curious about. Curious as to what they do, and even more so what they are worth." He starts pulling items from the bag. First out is a wand and five vials of liquid. "Picked these up fighting hobgoblins and apes. I'm pretty sure at least a few of these are healing potions, but I don't want to test that theory out in the heat of battle if you know what I mean. And one of thems not magic, Tynk should be able to figure out what that is." He reaches back into the bag this time producing a horn, followed by a ring. "The horn produces fog, useful thing, but I think the coin we could get for it might be even more useful. And the ring provides some sort of protection." Next out come a pair of lred tinted lenses and an amulet. "The lenses seem to be usefull for making things look bigger and more detailed. I'm pretty sure that they could be very useful to the right person. And I suspect Natala might know someone like that. I might too for that matter, but I'd still like to find out as much about them as I can first." "Same goes for the amulet." "Think you can help me out Codrian old buddy?" Minto smiles. |
| #3codrianNov 19, 2005 9:36:41 | Ah.. hello... Minton was it? Looks bit unsure. What day it actually is? Time just flew where I was, I'm still getting used to having been so long away. Turns his attention to the items. Find out what they do? Yes, I can do that. But it will take time. Especially as the process to determine what and how the item works is lengthy one. Prayer won't expedite it, even though there is no need to drink pearls... Three days, then I'm done. That fine? And 50 gold for this task will take most of my time for following days. |
| #4zombiegleemaxNov 20, 2005 13:23:28 | Minto places thirty coins on the counter. "Times not so much an issue. Hermy won't be back for a few days anyhow. Don't think that means you can take all week though. You'll get the rest of your money when the jobs done, and if it gets done in three days I'll throw in another ten or so." .o0(I can spend the next three days performing and still count it as working on sorting out shares. I should make enough to cover a bonus.) He smiles. "And if I don't have the rest of your money at that time, well, you'll have my items." The bard gives him a short bow and then heads out the door. "See you in three days." |
| #5codrianNov 20, 2005 15:46:23 | Smiles. Goodbye. See you in three days then. [OOC: Now we shall twiddle our thumbs for a while? ;) ] |
| #6zombiegleemaxNov 20, 2005 18:40:43 | ooc Smiles. Nope. We leap forward in time to try and get on the same page as most everyone else. |
| #7codrianNov 21, 2005 3:35:27 | Hello. No problem at all. If you'll wait a moment I go get the items. Fetches the bag containing the goods from the backroom. Places it on the table and opens it. Lifts one item at time out of there. You were correct, three of the vials were healing potions. These two are weaker kind, and this one slightly stronger. This fourth magical one, when drank it will make you invisible to normal sight for few minutes. This wand then, with it you can remove most mundane and magical diseases without problem. Works like other wands, point and say the command word. Places the wand on the table. The command word for this one is 'hygiene'. It contains 40 unexpended charges. The amulet then... when worn, and when you don't have other magical stuff hanging around your neck, it will make your skin grow more resilient to blows like tough animal hide, though for this particular one it seems that your skin becomes slightly paler like your bones were bigger and nearer the surface. Possibly due to the material it's made from, piece of human bone, I think. This ring offers protection as well, but not by making your skin harder. Instead, it envelopes you into thin cocoon of magical energy that can aid to turn blows aside. Works just by plucking it onto your finger. Lenses are as you said, they make you see things with more detail and the magical nature also thus helps you to notice things better with your sight. A word of caution though, to whomever gets these: Don't wear only one of them, or you'll be dizzy for few seconds while your head clears. After the initial dizziness you can use only one lens if you cover your other eye. Oh, and don't scratch the crystals. The horn works simply, you blow into it and a thick cloud of fog appears. You can fill an area about 10 feet by 10 feet in few seconds and if you continue blowing, the fog will continue spreading away from you in a line. So, for instance, in about half a minute you can have a 10 feet wide line of fog that stretches 50 feet. The sound of that thing is quite... horrid. Not a musical instrument at all. The fog cloud last about 3 minutes before dissipating. If there's wind, it'll go away far more quicker. I think that's all of them. I'm still waiting for Tynk to take a look at those non-magical substances. Specifics
|
| #8zombiegleemaxNov 21, 2005 14:01:32 | "No hurry on that. It'll take a bit to find a buyer for the items anyhow." Minto shrugs. "Natala should know a few people who might be interested in some of the things. The wand and the horn to be specific.I don't think she makes enough just off reading teacups and cards to stay in buisness. She gets a commision on items sold doesn't she? I dally a bit in potion making, I know the mark up on these kind of things is pretty hefty." "If I had the time, and the connections, I'd sell them myself. I'm sure I could get more then going through Natala, but hey, she's a friend, and I've got better things to do anyhow." |
| #9codrianNov 22, 2005 6:58:46 | Yes, she probably can do that. Me, I don't even know what's the going value for most of these things. Natala's not present right now, she had to leave early to go see some people, but if we'll set aside what items you want her to find buyers for and I'll tell her what you require. And she can then contact you when she's found a new owner for each of them. |
| #10zombiegleemaxNov 23, 2005 1:13:20 | Minto nods. "Sounds good to me." The bard turns around an starts to leave, he stops at the door. "Oh, and while you are talking to Natala, see if she thinks there's a market for magical beer." He heads out. |
| #11codrianNov 23, 2005 3:49:02 | Looks at the door after Minto has left. .oO(Magical beer?) Shrugs and then carries the items to Natala's back room. |
| #12hermy_the_hero_dupDec 01, 2005 0:17:56 | The door to the shop is thrown wide open, and one of Garics more famous heroes strides in. "Hey! Hi! Yer Codrum right?" Hermy points at the half-elf behind the counter. The halfling turns back top yell out the shops door. "He's here!" His attention return to Codrain. "Minto tells me ya does a good job identifying things. Well we needs somew stuff identified quick." |
| #13codrianDec 01, 2005 4:24:16 | Uhm. It's Codrian. Please. Shrugs. What do you need? |
| #14zombiegleemaxDec 01, 2005 7:57:03 | Burleg enters and sees the half elf before him. He gives a click glance at the halfling once he realises who it is. "Codrian, aye, I know this one." He walks over to the counter and begins placing the items on it, all the while speaking as he goes. "It's been a long time since I've smelled the likes of you."he says to the halfelf. "Now I've got a good memory, and know what's what, so no trickery." |
| #15zombiegleemaxDec 01, 2005 10:00:22 | NaShae follows Hermy and Burleg, led by Dak. She steps into the shop, careful where she walks and that she doesn't hit anything accidently. When Dak stops, she stands behind him with her hands on his shoulders, 'staring' blankly. |
| #16codrianDec 01, 2005 17:58:20 | Ah, you've returned, Mr Burrleg. Not much worse for wear, apparently. Looks at the pile of stuff. Everyone mucking somewhere digging up magical items? [OOC: How many items are there?] |
| #17zombiegleemaxDec 01, 2005 18:08:36 | "aye I suppose, and some aren't making it back. Put a double quick effort into this, a man's life lies suspended." {3} |
| #18zombiegleemaxDec 01, 2005 18:11:10 | Hearing Codrian, Shae turns somewhat toward him, but seems to miss, "Greetings, Codrian." |
| #19kywynDec 01, 2005 21:51:28 | Seeking air now, Hex crawls from NaShae's pocket. Finding the air tainted with incense, the animal opens and closes his mouth a couple of times. He turns his stubby neck to look at the smaller giants standing around. The frog chirps softly and stays very still, a defensive instinct relying on camoflague that his black skin might not afford here. |
| #20codrianDec 03, 2005 2:40:51 | Finding out what magical items do is an inherently slow process. You can't speed it up at whim. Gestures at the three items. I can have it done by tomorrow, noon. Not earlier. |
| #21hermy_the_hero_dupDec 03, 2005 11:58:02 | Hermy bites his tongue and shakes his head. He looks at Dak and NaShae and then sighs. "Noons'll be good. Hopefully Kywyn'll be able to see what they is too by then." He moves towards Dak and puts a hand on his shoulder. "Takes yer mum ta the temple. Ise shoulds be ables ta scrounges up enoughs money ta gets the job done tadays. I knows some guys I cin borrows from." He looks to NaShae. "How much is you still needin?" "Even sellin yer stuff will takes more times then someones deserves to be dead for. An I knows you'll pays me back when ya can." "Lets gets Kywyn back." |
| #22zombiegleemaxDec 03, 2005 17:32:00 | Shae shakes her head, "No, Hermy. If it's tomorrow, then it will be tomorrow. He won't come back as undead. He's safe in the temple." She gives a weak smile in the general direction as the halfling, "Thank you, though. We'll get him back tomorrow." |
| #23hermy_the_hero_dupDec 03, 2005 18:15:47 | Hermy nods and reaches into a pocket for some coins. He hands a silver one to Dak. "Why don'ts you see ifen Codrum has some candy. I thinks Natala has some arounds here?" "Why don'ts you shows him Codrum. But not that squid candy. I tried somes of that once when I was waiting fer Natala ta gets home. It's not as tasty as it looks." He gives Codrian a stare until he leads Dak away, then he whispers to NaShae. "He's yer husband so I aint gunna question yer decesion. Except just this once, after this I won'ts say another word ta disagree with ya, but is ya sure about waitin?" He glances to make sure Dak isn't listening. "Yer things'll be udentified tomorrow, but then theres still selling them, thats coulds takes more time. An even if it don'ts well..." He looks around again, lowering his voice more. "Even if it don'ts a day coulds stil makes a big differance ta a dead guy. When Durin was dead, well Ise sure ifen he hads been rought back sooner he'd has not changed as much." .o0(An Kirby seemed worse after hes cames back the second time, ifen it really was just the second time.) He quickily shakes his head. "I aint sayin Kywyns in a hell likes Durin was. But been dead cin change people. An the longers theys dead, the more times they has ta thinks about changin." "Ifen we hads brought Alissa back sooner insteads of havin ta go outs to the desert ta gets that mummys hand an treasure an stuff. well...Well maybe the Mother wouldn'ts has found another job fer her ta do." "An Kywyns a pretty useful guy." Hermy starts walking towards Dak to see what kind of candy he has found, calling back to NaShae as he does. "Buts whatever you deceides, I'lls backs you up." ooc Thats it for me today and probably most of tomorrow. So just assume Hermy has a mouthful of something good. |
| #24codrianDec 04, 2005 3:17:32 | .oO(Squid candy? I wonder what he has taken and eaten... that one root perhaps... for morning sickness was it.) Looks at Dakarai. Wait a moment. Carries the items to the back room and returns with a jar. Opens it and offers to Dak. You choose. Just one. |
| #25zombiegleemaxDec 04, 2005 12:17:46 | Shae gives a soft sigh, looking very lost now that she's not holding onto Dak, "I don't want to wait either, but he'll be back tomorrow. It's one more day and we can wait. I'm sure it'll be fine." |
| #26shatteredtowerDec 04, 2005 13:19:01 | "Codrian, if you could-- oh, excuse me. Hello, NaShae, Dakarai," says Natala as she walks in through the front door. After a second glance, she adds, "Sir Woodhome." Moving to the elf, she says, almost brusquely, "Do you know, NaShae, that I've been looking all over for you, only to find you here? Tch." Her tone softens, sounding almost nervous, as she changes the subject. "I've been told you made arrangements for Kywyn at the temple. When the time comes, I'll be there." Then the faint trace of annoyance returns, though it's hard to tell if it's feigned, possibly mixed with an effort at levity. "But from the look of it, you never got your sight checked into. Well, it's a good thing I prepared for that, if you've got a moment." |
| #27kywynDec 04, 2005 16:07:21 | When Natala comes closer, Hex gets the sensation that his hiding spot is no longer secure. He spots something that draws his attention, a glass of water on the counter behind the dark-haired half-elf woman. Waiting until the moment presents itself. The dark frog leaps from NaShae's arm, rebounds off Natala's back, and lands in a heap on the counter. Hex scales the crystal wall of the glass and plunges into the water. There, he floats, taking in the moisture through his skin. A remnant of higher thought process pulses along Hex's brain as he thinks this might not be the right thing to be doing, but it fades. It all fades when he has air above him and water below him. As above, so below, he recalls briefly. |
| #28zombiegleemaxDec 04, 2005 17:08:20 | Shae nods, having little but time, "Thank you, Natala. I was told they could likely fix them at the temple, but I had other things to take care of first. |
| #29shatteredtowerDec 04, 2005 17:42:19 | Natala gives a start at the frog's sudden leap. Turning to see what struck her, she untenses as she sees the frog struggling for the basin, then turns back to NaShae. "No doubt you did, but this will make it easier. Allow me..." Passing a hand before her face as she recites her spell, Natala then gently places her palm between NaShae's eyes. There is only light at first, but she quickly recaptures perception of colour, and finally, within the literal blink of an eye, focus. "Now to test. Could you point out Hex for me, please, NaShae?" |
| #30zombiegleemaxDec 04, 2005 18:14:00 | Shae blinks, surprised that she can do the spell immediately. So shocked at seeing, she stares for a moment before looking for Hex. Giving a small smile, she points to the little frog in the water, "Thank you, Natala. I'll find some way to repay you for this." |
| #31shatteredtowerDec 04, 2005 18:41:57 | "No rush," Natala says with a small smile. "I have a few suggestions in mind -- none requiring too much of your time or any further risk, I might add." Her mouth tightening into a barely perceptible grimace, she adds, "They'll wait for a more convenient time, however. When you go to reawaken Kywyn, will you please come for me first?" |
| #32zombiegleemaxDec 04, 2005 18:54:49 | Shae nods, "Of course. I will have to come here tomorrow to pick up what I will need to sell to raise him." |
| #33shatteredtowerDec 04, 2005 19:36:17 | "I wish I had a buyer lined up for you, NaShae," Natala tells her. "I'm sorry. I could put in word with the Silver Sword for you, however, which ought to make things easier. There aren't many merchants with the funds to trade in such items, but the guild's backers do have the sort of connections that could afford them. Then again, a gem merchant might also be willing to accept them as collateral in exchange for the diamonds you'd need... "I'm sure you can figure it out, however. If you need the help, you'll let me know." |
| #34codrianDec 05, 2005 2:47:50 | While Natala arrives, gives the assembled people a nod and disappears to the back room. .oO(I can get one of those done today, and then other two tomorrow morning. Have to check with Natala that she won't need me to keep the shop then.) Sits down and looks at the items. .oO(Where are you people digging these out?) |
| #35zombiegleemaxDec 05, 2005 8:40:45 | Burleg waits for all the talking to get done, and then puts in his info. He steps forward holding his hands up. "One moment now.. First, I mean to stick by the offer, no question there, but I'll need to have a look at each item, and know their value in turn. The way I figure it, the one that I will get the least use out of, but still will help, will be the lucky item.” Burleg scratches his chin ”Will the temple not accept such a prize as one of these for direct payment? They each have as much money as any merchant I know.” |
| #36zombiegleemaxDec 05, 2005 10:55:35 | Shae frowns, "I understood that, Burleg. I had hoped that you would be here tomorrow to decide. And when you do, I was going to give that to the Temple as payment, unless it's much more than I needed, in which case, I would give the rest to you." |
| #37zombiegleemaxDec 05, 2005 11:23:07 | "OH!" Burleg fumbles for a moment. "I'll be here.. of course! I just thought yall were going to do business without me.. No that will be fine, in the morning, after breakfast.." |
| #38hermy_the_hero_dupDec 06, 2005 1:14:42 | Hermy takes a candy out of Codrians jar and shoves it into his mouth. He turns to wave at Natala as she enters, and then leads Dak towards Hex. "Ook its er ads oad" The halfling swallows. "Look its your dads toad." He glances back towards the conversation and bites into his candy to keep from interupting. .o0(The Temple don'ts buy magic stuff. Its too easy fer them ta makes their own.) He shakes his head and sighs. He turns to Dak. "Maybe you shoulds carry him fer a bit. I don'ts thinks a magic store is the best place ta leaves a toad laying around. Newts either." .o0(Why is they waiting? Tomorrows aint soon enough sometimes.) |
| #39kywynDec 06, 2005 10:09:36 | Hex struggles briefly when Dakarai reaches to scoop him up. Eventually, the frog resigns himself to looking around again. For his part, Dak seems somewhat blank at the moment, either unsure or unaware of the greater situation. Hex turns his gold eyes toward a point left of Dak’s head, thinking he heard some noise resembling reassuring whispers. The familiar chirps softly as the dark-haired boy holds him in both small hands. |
| #40zombiegleemaxDec 06, 2005 10:25:46 | Burleg returns early in the morning. So early that his boots have gotten a bit grimy from tracking through the dewy grass, then to dusty streets. He doesn't notice however, and simply stands around waiting for the shop to open. "I'll warrent that half elf is still dreaming about flowers and butterflies.."he mumbles as he waits. |
| #41zombiegleemaxDec 07, 2005 22:48:06 | Shae thanks Natala again and takes Dak home. [to Elsewhere.] |
| #42hermy_the_hero_dupDec 08, 2005 1:22:55 | Hermy stays for a few seconds after NaShae leaves. "Natala? Ise gots some money ta covers things ifen the stuff can'ts gets sold quick enoughs." "Just sends word ta Minto an he'll brings it." He sets outs. "I'll trys ta be back in the mornin." |
| #43zombiegleemaxDec 12, 2005 22:29:45 | Shae and Dak get to Natala's and wait with Burleg for Codrian. |
| #44shatteredtowerDec 13, 2005 7:25:13 | Once everyone has left, Natala seeks out Codrian. "Once you've determined the properties of these items, report it to me and I will see to things from there," she tells him. "None of them are thinking clearly -- as though they could just walk around and find a buyer in the market! If the dwarf complains..." She scowls darkly. "...I will... discuss matters with him. You may be required to fetch the guard, in which case I will give you a signal to leave quietly. I can manage until you return." Attempting a smile, she adds, "But it shouldn't have to come to that." OoC: The items Codrian is identifying are a set of bracers of defense +1/+1, a ring of protection +1, and a headband of intellect +2. When he's done with those, he can send me the level-up details for his character. He's only had a month and a bit already to think about them. ;) |
| #45codrianDec 13, 2005 8:08:22 | [To Natala on previous day.] Alright. He is quite temperamental. What is bothering them so? There has happened something, but no one tells me. [The next morning.] Around nine in the morning, Burleg can see Codrian walking towards the shop accompanied by a neatly dressed thin man. ...him that I will meet him there. At eight, was it? "Yees." That's agreed then, Mr Diene. Now if you allow me, I have work to do. "Ov courrse." Shakes hand with the man and turns to Burleg. It isn't any way near noon, Mr Burleg. I said I would be ready by noon, and means I'm ready by noon, not three hours earlier. I'll see that Tynk finds you something to drink while you wait, as you apparently want to sit around. Vanishes into the back room. Spends next two hours to find out the properties of two of three items, the ring and the headband. |
| #46zombiegleemaxDec 13, 2005 8:14:11 | .oO(I don't know why you are waiting until noon!) Burleg merely nods and goes inside. He has the tea offered him, and even sips it without placing his pinky on the cup. Soon he is asleep in a chair, despite the smells of the unusual shop. |
| #47codrianDec 13, 2005 8:31:12 | [To Natala in the backroom.] The bracers and the ring both offer some protection against physical harm. Ring by creating a slightly resistant field around you and the bracers just by making you harder to hit so you suffer any real harm. This headband is useful for book mages, as it increases the amount of knowledge one can keep in one's head. And Mr Burleg is currently sleeping in a chair inside the store. |
| #48kywynDec 15, 2005 9:55:42 | Hex sneaks away from Dak and NaShae to explore the space. Frogs can stay still for a long time, but if there is room to jump, sometimes it is too tempting. The black amphibian hops to the nearby chair where a mound of metal chain and beard snores. Feeling warmth underneath, Hex climbs up to the face of the thing, his reflexive timidness momentarily displaced by curiousity. Suddenly, Hex's left foot becomes ensnared in a length of dirty blond twine-like hair. Trying to kick it free, the tiny familiar does not muster much force. |
| #49zombiegleemaxDec 15, 2005 10:05:41 | As the frog struggles, pulling at the mustache, Burleg wakes. He sits up and adjusts his helmet. Wiping his sleeve across his face to remove drool, a small soft ‘something’ is detected. Burleg narrows his eye and drops his gaze. .oO(I’ve caught you, you little scoundrel. ) After removing the frog from his beard, none to gently, holding his by a webbed foot, Burleg looks around for a nice receptacle. He begins to put the little creature in a random jar but stops. ’oO(This is a strange place, maybe the little critter is some weird sort of a pet. That half elf’s likely.) Burleg sets the creature on the arm of the chair and rubs the sleep out of his eye. He does not offer a smile to NaShae. He simply challenges the frog to a staring duel. |
| #50kywynDec 15, 2005 10:25:53 | A chirp escapes from Hex after he is grabbed. “Crrrk.” Once returned to stable ground, Hex stares up at the strange creature. The frog hunches down and puffs up his body a bit to make himself look bigger. What was this feeling coursing through his mind? Something alien yet familiar. Ego? Courage? The words should have no meaning, yet Hex narrows his golden eyes at the giant dwarf. |
| #51zombiegleemaxDec 15, 2005 10:34:02 | The dwarf scowls and looks around trying to pin point the frog’s owner. .oO(Didn’t she have one in the sewers?)He thinks looking at NaShae. ”Do you know what ‘squish’ means Mr. Frog?” |
| #52kywynDec 15, 2005 10:56:13 | Drawn by the dwarf’s voice, the small dark-haired, half-elf boy walks over to kneel down and stare at Hex. “He isn’t acting right,” he whispers. Dak picks up the frog and walks to the counter to wait. Letting Hex climb up on the surface, the child hangs near his mother’s legs. Hex, on the other hand, keeps looking at the dwarf. If Burleg didn’t know any better, he could have sworn the frog pointed a teeny finger at him challengingly. |
| #53zombiegleemaxDec 15, 2005 11:09:27 | “He’s acting like fish bait. Those things’ll give you warts kid.” Burleg widens his optical as the challenge is given, and then realizes what he is doing. He smiles to himself and yawns casually sitting back in the chair. |
| #54kywynDec 16, 2005 11:37:45 | Dakarai doesn't appear to hear the dwarf. The frog, on the other hand, sits at the edge of the counter and ribbits once at Burkeg. "Guo-guo." Hex starts to wonder why he is so far away from the water and what these giants are doing. Something doesn't make sense here, but his brain struggles with anything resembling logic above basic survival instincts. |
| #55zombiegleemaxDec 16, 2005 13:26:02 | Burleg takes an old dusty peice of burlap from his sack and lays it over the frog, covering up the problem. "Night night little worm." |
| #56kywynDec 16, 2005 14:44:57 | Hex blinks several times to ward off the dark. It is a trick, but part of him does want to rest. The amphibian crawls out from under the cloth and moves along the counter, apparently forgetting his vendetta against the bearded giant. Hex shifts between various colored glass vials, ceramic bowls, and multifaceted crystal containers. His image distorts and contorts like a liquid ghost along his path. |
| #57hermy_the_hero_dupDec 19, 2005 2:10:38 | Hermy pops his head in to see how things are going. He notices both Codrian and Natala are not present at the moment. He shakes his head and retreats back out the door. .o0(I reallys hopes Minto gots my message. Things don't seems to be going to well rights now.) |
| #58kywynDec 20, 2005 16:20:32 | The quick draft of fresh air in the perfumed room draws Hex's attention. The frog turns from the counter and hops to a stool and then a smaller table near the door. The dark glob is crawling toward one of the front windows, raising his hand to stick on the glass. He finds it strange how he could see through but not pass through the space. |
| #59kywynDec 22, 2005 10:34:50 | Denied at the window pane, Hex follows the edge of the sill. He sidles to the where the window is open just a crack and squeezes through to get to the warm outside air. In the midday sun, Hex climbs part way up the panel to put his back to the heating rays and bask. He chirps once, not knowing why. The sound echoes, a drop spreading ripples in a pond. The sunlight streaming down through the skyline of the city do not seem to aid the frog -- he’s cold. It the same dull dream of consciousness the frog might experience after being thawed out from a frozen slumber. His insides turning from ice to slush as his brain fights to become aware of its surroundings. Only this time, he is not frozen. So why does he feel so cold? The wind murmurs a lullaby that the familiar can understand somehow: Rest, Little Frog. Nature does nothing in vain/ Everything changes; nothing perishes/ Nothing exists; all things are becoming/ Half in love with death, half with life, the winter roads lead to one place/ The spring beyond is slumbering. |
| #60hermy_the_hero_dupDec 29, 2005 15:05:49 | Hermy hears the chirp of a frog and sighs. .o0(At least it aints crckets.) He flexes his fingers and the grasps the hilt of his sword, sliding it part way out of the scabbard, and then putting it back in. He repeats the movements. .o0(Ifen Minto gots the message thens he shoulds be at the Temples by now. An with enoughs gold to do the job. Or at least does most of the job.) Hermy looks at the frog in the window, and shakes his head. He steps into the store again, and coughs. When he catches the attention of those in the room, he exhales. "Hey, ifen youse havens proplems gettin things done, theres always tomorrow. Why don'ts we comes back then. Kywyn cin help sorts things out. He's good at that types of thing. Cause Mintos waitin at the Temple with a whole bunch of money." Hermy holds the door open to let the noonday sun in. "I doubts I'll be ables ta gets him outs a bed this early again anytime soon." "Don'ts worry NaShae ya cin pays me back after ya sell them things, I probably still owes you fer them pants ysa lents me befores I gots my heroing pair an Little Doctari has been withouts his dad longs enough. I owe Kywyn fer helpin me out there too." "Let's gets him back. Codrum cin takes care of sellin the stuff." He motions for NaShae to go out the door. |
| #61kywynDec 29, 2005 18:51:28 | Seeing the movement of red with his bulbous eyes, the frog climbs toward the door frame. When Hermy passes under again, Hex drops down with a soft, audible 'tok,' aiming for the crimson-scaled, floating island that is the halfling's cap. Hex peers over the edge of this new fortress. |
| #62zombiegleemaxJan 01, 2006 17:03:09 | Shae looks to Hermy and slowly nods, "As long as I can pay you back." Moving toward the door, she sees Hex in Hermy's hat. Lightly plucking him out and putting him in her pocket, she heads toward the temple. |
| #63zombiegleemaxJan 01, 2006 20:34:39 | Burleg raises an eyebrow as they leave, sighs and hrmmphs. He wraps his tough old knuckles on the counter and clears his throat. "We come on now Codrain while I'm still young." |
| #64zombiegleemaxJan 02, 2006 12:50:24 | Boirin steps into the shop. Looking around, he notices NaShae and Burleg. .oO(I guess, I guessed right.) Boirin finds a chair and sits down next to Burleg. He then asks. "So is everyone alive again?" |
| #65zombiegleemaxJan 03, 2006 8:39:58 | Burleg gives Boirin an annoyed look, but this softens quickly. "I don't know that yet... I assume none. We got them all to where they need to be though. Just trying to finace the rest. I figured getting money from these things I found would be helpful in bringing everybody back." |
| #66zombiegleemaxJan 04, 2006 8:05:05 | Boirin nods, "Good."He pulls out his flask of spirits and takes a hit and then silently offers it to Burleg. |
| #67zombiegleemaxJan 04, 2006 8:14:22 | The dwarf partakes in the spirits and gives a satisfied sigh after the sip. "Obliged" |
| #68zombiegleemaxJan 04, 2006 18:19:08 | The man takes back the silver flask and fastens it to his hip. [dwarven]"Your welcome." Boirin pulls a dagger out of his sleeve and proceeds to clean his nails attentively. |
| #69zombiegleemaxJan 12, 2006 8:16:28 | As the time passes, Burleg gets more and more impatient. He starts to complain but holds his tongue. .oO(magic stuffs.. likely supposed to take all day… ) ”SO.. what happened down there? Weren’t you the only survivor?” he says turning to Boirin. |
| #70zombiegleemaxJan 13, 2006 21:55:04 | Boirin cocks his head slightly and then states, in a voice somewhere between irritated and sarcastic. The fuz of the alchohol was starting to work through his system. Before he starts he takes another swig from his flask. Some part of Boirin cares about not getting mutilated by NaShae, so he proceeds in dwarven. [dwarven]"Well, first we went down looking for treasure and deaders. First couple days netted us nothing, so we were going to pull out after another futile search on that last day. Then the..." Boirin swears in virilent Orcish for almost ten seconds, "lich-boy found us. Lich toasts Ulerian, a wizardy fellow, didn't like him much, but he could be usefull. Got me some good jobs. Anyway after he reduces him to cinders he walks in and gives Aramil Dunskar a "love-tap." Kills him dead with a punch that wouldn't have fased a giriatric pointy-ear. Then he touches Kywyn. Freezes him up so he can't move and takes potshots at him. Well once the lich is done their he turns on me and the cleric. We hold him off for awhile but the cleric gets it. Then I ran. Lost what honor I've earned in the last year." Boirin sighs, his tone loses its edge. [dwarven]"Of course I ran. After all not only am I a lantern-toter but a head-banger as well." The glow from the previous shot provides a comfort like a familiar bed. He would just have to cope. People die. Well here they seem to not be good at staying dead. Oh well. [dwarven]"You want to go bowling when we get done? I need something to take my mind off all this." |
| #71zombiegleemaxJan 13, 2006 22:06:50 | Gilgiga enters the shop and wanders about it, looking at salves and what not. He comes to a large rack of arrows and starts to read. Some of the arrows are anchent, others made behind the shop. He removes a small piece of partchment and compares it to the tags on the arrows. He gengerly removes an arow with a shaft of bone and a golden head. It seems perfectly balanced, a work of art, something to be displayed not use to slay. Yet it was made by monks for just that purpose. On another rack he finds a bowstring made from the hairs of a unicorns tail. Something tells him that hair wouldn't fire as well as true senu, but the string seems strongenough to do that job. With a brief talk with the shopkeep he pays for the items with an obcene amount of gold then heads for the shops exit. Show -1000 gp for the materials for making a cloak of resistance +1. |
| #72zombiegleemaxJan 14, 2006 7:14:47 | {Dwarven} "Sad turns this has taken. Aye I'll go, but I doubt I'll be up for much of the game. Need to get a bottle on the way." Burleg sits and gives his chin a scratch. He works over something a few times in his simple, but mechanical mind. {Dwarven}"Say, we only brought the two dwerrow and the Kywyn fellow back... The other one is still down there, and that creature was not destroyed." |
| #73zombiegleemaxJan 14, 2006 12:01:02 | [dwarven]"Yep, thats right. Ulerian got left down there, but he was pretty much charcoal last time I saw him." Boirin stands as well, and stretches his torso a bit. [dwarven]"Theres a field by a place called the Pelican. Rather dwarfish spot. Good for mead and stronger stuff. Also if your missing wild boar with cave tubers they've usually got a couple batches roasting all the time." |
| #74zombiegleemaxJan 16, 2006 14:44:03 | "Well, if you get finished off here, its in the dwarvish district. The fields around the back is where we usually play." Boirin shrugs and walks out heading towards the Pelican. |
| #75zombiegleemaxJan 18, 2006 9:46:34 | Natala steps out from the back room, followed by Codrian. Thank you, Mr. Enevelin, I appreciate it. Codrian nods, "Certainly. Just doing my job." Staying within reach of the proprietress, Codrian begins dusting the shelves, making sure the various jars and boxes are lined up evenly, labels facing out. Natala sees that only Burleg is present, and a frown flickers across her face. Mr. Kharn. The items have been identified, the bracers and ring offer protection -- the bracers more so than the ring -- and the circlet increases intellect. The circlet is likely to bring in two thousand gold, the bracers and ring about a thousand each. If you want one of those, say so. I'll send messages to the others involved but we'll have to see if any of them wants one of the items. Your share of the split will be one hundred fourteen gold, two silver, and eight or nine copper. Unless you want to take one of the items, of course. |
| #76zombiegleemaxJan 18, 2006 14:36:45 | Burleg sits up nodding his head. ”I see I see.. “ He stands and puts his hands on his hips. ”Miss, we brought these things to your apprentice there to get an idea of what, if any enchantments lay on them, and that would help in figuring the value accordingly. That task is done.” As he talk he holds off any interruptions from either party. ”So as far as I’m concerned, that’s the end of your business on the matter, at least for the time being. The fact that you’ve taken it upon yourself to decide what goes where, and to whom, without my or anyone else’s council is downright crooked. Your friends no doubt trust you, but why should I? The fact that I wasn’t even asked.. well.. the whole this is just a lie now..” He nods his head after a moment of silence smiles. ”I tell yah what, take my cut, the item of your choice, and use the money it brings to hire up some more folks to go down and bring back the soul we didn’t retrieve.” |
| #77zombiegleemaxMar 21, 2006 0:07:51 | A blow from Natala's fist shakes the counter. A clink of glass hitting glass can be heard somewhere above. "The end of my business on the matter?" she says, her voice precise with anger. "Taken it upon myself? If there is a lie here, it is not of my telling. "Are you soft in the head, b'zugda-hiara? Or are you simply a greedy mercenary who wants now to dictate how things should go from here? Take your money or don't. If you know who I am, the shop I run, the guild I help to lead, you know I'm not cheating you. If you don't know, then ask. Ask the others who were there, who asked me for help, who are no doubt at the Temple today. "But I have no reason to trust a drudak'ak who comes upon us in the sewers and offers us help for a price. I'm keeping shares for those who were lost, first; and dividing what's left among those who went to seek them. "The one we left behind... I hope to see him returned to his people in the towers, along with his share of the loot. I hope to see the evil below the city eradicated. But you are not going to dictate the terms of that. Anyone strong enough to go into that danger and come back will not do it for the money." She pauses, the anger on her face gaining a touch of sadness. "As we've seen." |
| #78zombiegleemaxMar 21, 2006 6:54:47 | Burleg nods as the halfelf rattles off some foul names for him. In the middle of her speech he sighs like a stupporn teen getting a lecture from his school master. He crosses his arms as it becomes lengthy. "Look now, you do what you think is right. I figure given your mighty status here in this city, that I'll get no help from the gaurd or any official. That means I'll leave it alone, and that's good for you, right?" He grabs a strap from his back pack and shoulders it, turning to go. "Tell your apprentice he carries an awful stence." Burleg leaves Natala's Mystic Store. |
| #79kywynMar 24, 2006 9:24:44 | Stalking around the corner, a black-clad outline reaches out to touch a gauntleted hand to the wall. His grey wrappings seem to shift before he moves to peer into the front window for a sign of movement. |
| #80zombiegleemaxMar 24, 2006 22:27:26 | Natala stops stock-still as she catches a glimpse of a figure looking in her front window. The light from the candles and the fireplace are dim, but the darkness outside means she can only see him as a shadow. "—" she says. The words were going to be, Who's there? — but in the moment of articulation she stops her tongue. Because she knows the answer. Instead, after a moment face-to-face with a figure whose face she cannot see, she gestures slightly towards the door. "Come in," her gesture says, without her having to speak the words. "Come in." |
| #81kywynMar 25, 2006 12:28:38 | The hooded man flinches back when he catches the eye of the woman within. Slowly, he comes closer to the glass again to see her gesture to enter. He sinks down and skips on hands and feet to the doorway. Straightening up, Kywyn turns the door handle and pulls the door open. He glances back at Minto and the younger halfling before setting foot into the store. A wash of thoughts stream into Kywyn's mind and the smell of incense and rare herbs mixes with the dim, warm glow that highlights his pale cast. It is almost enough to stagger the slender man back. He sets his shaded eyes scanning about the room. |
| #82zombiegleemaxMar 30, 2006 18:50:05 | The woman watches his every move, taking in every thing about him with her gaze. Even the dim lighting cannot conceal the dark half-moons under her eyes, if he looks at her face. "You're back," she thinks. "You." She turns her head suddenly, as if dealt a blow. |
| #83kywynMar 30, 2006 20:01:37 | Kywyn takes a slow step forward, testing the footing as if he is not certain the floorboards are solid. He leans forward after another step and crouches down when he reaches the place where the areas of candlelight overlap to form a greater radiance. The black-clad man under the grey cloak and hood places a hand out to touch the floor; a clink of his gauntlets is followed by more from his boots and other arm as he moves like a stalking cat, keeping a distance from the dark-haired woman still. He reaches a spare wooden chair and pulls it out a little to climb up to the seat. Perched like gargoyle, he leans toward Natala's direction like he is listening for a word. |
| #84zombiegleemaxMar 31, 2006 18:33:50 | Natala kneels on the floor in front of Kywyn's chair, gazing up at him from below. "You're not really back yet, are you," she thinks, and reaches out to him slowly, her fingers grazing the fabric of his hood. "You're not really of this world..." "...Seeker." The one word she says aloud is a hoarse whisper. |
| #85kywynMar 31, 2006 19:36:58 | Kywyn retracts slightly as Natala nears. But when she kneels, he looks down at her with iced eyes. "I'min-aesi jari... Pum axam... zint... Pum gned ug," he replies in low sounds that scratch at the brain uncomfortably. He remains still as he breaks his muteness, but slowly winds his neck around to let his hood fall back. The face is the same, though paler, making his dark hair seem darker. There is a chill in his stare that speaks of other places. ---[color=dimgray] [OoC: Never know the extent of Nat's language proficiencies, but the sounds pass for a low form of Abyssal if she knows it or has a suitable Knowledge skill.] [/color] |
| #86zombiegleemaxApr 01, 2006 10:01:40 | "Always so cold," she thinks, meeting his stare as her ears strain to catch his words. Show Yes, Natala would understand Abyssal. |
| #87kywynApr 01, 2006 14:04:29 | The whispers form into disjointed words as she listens. <"... I am... think... I know you..."> Some noises make words, others are slurred beyond recognition. |
| #88zombiegleemaxMay 05, 2006 22:55:41 | Natala pales slightly, and reaches to touch her hand to his, her fingers meeting with his gauntlets. "That's where you were, was it?" she asks softly, in the common tongue. She shudders internally, thinking back to a murky world of battled reenacted again and again, cruel riddles, and tormented souls. "There's a piece of you missing... a part that can't stop seeing..." When she speaks again, it is in the same tongue her friend is using, but fluently, and without the precise word choice that characterizes her normal speech. <"Come with me,"> she says, drawing his fingertips upwards along with hers. |
| #89kywynMay 06, 2006 2:39:34 | Kywyn leans back as Natala seems to understand him. He understands her also, though it is still as if through a haze. <"Shadow... There was a lot of shadow..."> he mutters. With her hand, he rises and hops down from his seat. He pursues her agilely on hands and feet at first before standing to watch where she leads.. |
| #90zombiegleemaxMay 29, 2006 22:48:31 | Natala nods sadly, her face etched with sorrow. she says. With that, she leads him out the door of her shop and through the darkened streets. [To the Temple] |
| #91kywynMay 30, 2006 0:44:24 | Kywyn stares at the unlit doorway for a moment before moving. The dim shadows he casts seem to swirl around his motion as the pale man exits the shop into the cool night air. His eyes let him find Natala without trouble and he catches up, remaining a cautious step behind as they go. |
