Definitely not expecting to come out of this one intact though. Ah well. That's what you get when you go hunting for a dead bear, I guess.
As I drive up, the first thing I notice is the inordinate (especially for this time of day, even with some students that only have a few classes) number of parents beside their parked SUV's, almost all of them talking on their cells. The next thing I notice is the heavy distribution of police and their cars. Then orange cones and yellow tape cordoning off one of the Freedom HS parking lots. Then the big black van with "Walnut Creek Police Department" painted on the side, then a photographer tweaking his tripod. I've missed my turn into the parking lot, and as I cruise past the campus completely to find a spot to turn around, I see the student body up in the bleachers of the football field. As I come by for another pass, I see a helicopter flying high overhead. And I think, 'bomb scare.'
Sure enough, that's what it is. I park in one of the open lots to wait, walk down to talk to one of the cops, and soon hear that my guess is correct: there's a suspicious object, and police are combing the campus. The place is locked down for the moment, so I and everyone else have no choice but to wait.
And wait I do. I sit in the car reading material I'd planned on reading while waiting at the DMV. Before too long I hear a boom and look up. My reaction seems calm, though, compared to the parents I can see trotting a little closer to the school for a better look. I remember hearing on TV that it's a common practice for bomb squads to detonate bombs with their own explosives, so this becomes my natural assumption. I continue to wait, watching for activity to tell me that I can go get Jace now, but it's a long time coming. Finally I see a steady stream of cars pulling out of the distant parking lot, and see students walking. It's 12:40 o'clock. I walk over to the field to catch Jace, having no desire to fight this inordinate stream of traffic. I finally beckon him down from the stands and we quit the campus in favor of the freeway. He tells me that the suspicious object seems to be two pipe bombs, and since the campus is now being evacuated, the police are going to look for more. So we go on into Pittsburg. Maybe they'll squeeze him in, or at least we can set his next appointment.
Fortunately, the gentleman at the desk spoke to his supervisor, who'd heard about the incident, and Jace was allowed to take his test an hour later than originally intended. He passed it, and is in possession of a paper license until the card is sent to him.
Apparently, neither rain nor sleet, nor bad scheduling or bombs, will daunt the teenager in his quest to drive. They will, however, rain on his de facto chauffer's parade one last time before he's free of the burden.
But congratulations to Jace for passing his driving test.

Time rolls on, and I'm 25, and need a license. I take my test (in Eureka) only to fail it due to not slowing down enough at an uncontrolled intersection. So, for my second try my friends convince me to go down to Garberville, where the testers are 'easier'. My Dodge Monza gets jammed in gear and I can't back out of the parking space to take the exam. In disgust the examiner says 'come back when you've fixed your car.' :embarrass
Well, I thought I'd gotten it fixed, went to take the test again & went back to Eureka because I didn't want to face that same lady again... Only to find out she tests in both locations since Garberville is such a speck! And... my transmission jammed again. She starts to walk away, and I yanked that puppy into gear! So she gave me the test, skipping the parallel parking ("Just describe to me how you would parallel park.") and I got my license...
Then, I went to my parents house and suddenly got practical experience in driving in 18" of snow.

I took my own driving test in Pahrump, NV. I missed the call that morning telling me that my appointment had to be cancelled, but they were nice enough to let me take it after driving an hour and forty-five minutes. Tester said my only mistake was a left-turn-yield-on-green situation, and during the drive we were afforded the spectacle of a man standing on top of a dirt pile, waving a knife and ranting at nothing. I parellel parked in a lot for a church, behind an imaginary red Corvette with an imaginary blond in it.7:00

School Starts (Normal Day) 1st period class is more immature, and rude then normal

Class will end in about 15 minutes when over the PA system teachers are instructed to lock down their classes, nobody in or out of the class rooms. (meaning locked doors, and drawn shades.) Our entire class promptly bursts out in pandemonium. They all need to use the restroom, call their parents, leave the room because they feel claustrophobic, they feel unsafe on school grounds and wished to be escorted to their car so they could go home, and other similar excuses. Many resort to standing on the desks to look out the windows that are only 2x3 and eight feet from the floor, so light can come in but bullets will not strike students. The door is a fire door, and bullet proof. The glass is meshed tempered safety glass. Anybody running around with a gun would need a ladder to even see into the class rooms. The walls are 8 inches thick, concrete, cinder block, and reinforced with steel.
My poor teacher, a tiny French lady that could not control a classroom, of military recruits if the angriest and most controlling drill sergeant told them that they needed to be good for her. So of course the room is absolute chaos.

our principal sends an e-mail explaining that there is a suspicious object sitting by the bike racks close to one of the classroom buildings. our 9:15 starts again, only having drank the equivalent to 3 1/2 cups of Coffee and normally using the rest room at this time I need to use the restroom. I have never been really good at enduring the need. If I need to go I will. Meanings how my teacher likes me and believes me to be trustworthy, I quite possible could have used the restroom if nobody else in the class were to know about it. But as it stood if she let me go then she would lose what little control she still had, So I grinned and bore it.

Over this time we finished a movie that we slowly watching over different class periods, Received two more E-mail giving more information (Just enough to keep the rowdy kids satisfied, and little enough to not cause panic) The PA system came on and our principal told us the we all need to stay in the rooms for our own safty and if you have to pee tough. If you give your teachers any more crap about your newly developed problems, your name will be taken and you will have repercussions. We also started a gouge your eyes out movie, Clueless. And I still seriously need to go to the bathroom.

The class next door is evacuated, and some students that took up the job of watch looking threw the miniscule window that is next to the door. And they promptly tell the whole class, stirring the pot once again. A few minutes later we get a knock on our door, and my teacher had to check who was out there. (she had pulled the watch away from the window.) Its campus security and we are evacuated, across campus. (Its a big Campus) We walk a little less then a half mile to where we are going to be held until it is safe to evacuate the rest of the way, Half my class took this chance to separate. I managed to keep the more intelligent ones together (Don't know why I did this other then it seemed it needed to be done.) I slowly picked my class mates out from the flowing crowd and grouped them together. Until my teacher showed up to make an attempt at taking care of things. We sat in a area and waited for my entire student body to show up. (2200 students about 150 staff members.) It is now about 11:15 Oh and I forgot to mention it is a little warm sitting on aluminum bleacher in the sun surrounded by people. And I still need to Us the bathroom.

After hearing small details about things going on music being played over our stadium loud speakers, and other such things Our principal comes out and tells us how we are going to evacuate the school the rest of the way. First to leave is anyone that drove here or rode here with another student. Second is people that have parents present, and third is the ones that rode the various buses. It takes about 15 minutes to get the first group out, and i would guess about another Half-hour to get the second group out. The buses were arriving at 1:30

I get to Pitt and i feel like i am going to explode. I visit the Rayles next door and use their facilities. And Greatly relived I go over the DMV and stand in line and wait for my turn. About 10 minutes later. (It was a fast day) I speak with the Gentlemen, and he pulls some strings and gets me in.

Leave DMV with my paper license, and stop at Carls Junior. Call home to figure out which school My girlfriend was playing at that day. I am then informed that I can't drive until I have Insurance...(But I could drive with a permit but not a license...Ironic hu) So I had the keys over to my brother and leave for home.

Leave for girl friends game. Upon arrival i learn that they started the games early...at 3:00 and my thoughts were "Crap we missed half the game" In High school softball the Girls play for 7 innings. Or until there is either a score, or conditions are no longer safe for play (ie: gets too dark or cold) Well this game went 11 innings without a score and In the last inning there was a run scored for us. Woot again.

We leave for home to get my mom in bed. (she works nights and goes to bed a little before 5:00) and the rest of the day was a normal one.

In other car related news, the woman who I tapped is now claiming that she was injured. It really pisses me off because I know she wasn't hurt, and my insurance company knows it, but they will still probably pay her off because it is cheaper than litigation! (And how desprate can a person be to try to scam a 19th year old driving a car that is older than him!)
At least I can take solace in at least one scammer being caught (this in reference to the Chili Finger Lady).

Well this weekend Gilgiga and I will be at Heratige Music festival in the bay area. If anyone is going to the Powel Alto festival come say "hi" to Ponderosa, thats our band. Other than that I doubt we'll get any internet connection this weekend.

But my choir did very well. We took Gold, first place with a avg. of 97ish. We also won the spirit award. second year in a row. We were also awarded an invite to a gold compition next year.

7:00 AM: Now dressed, Jonathan slipped his cell phone into his pocket. In the livingroom, jacket zipped up and bike seat in hand, he left the apartment. After a short ride across the University Mall, the anxious man squeezed the hand lever, and his brakes answered with a high screech. After purchasing a chocolate old fashion, ham/cheese crosaunt, and a key lime beverage, Jonathan returned to his apartment to have breakfast.
7:30 AM: Hmm... Cable's out. "Better get my bag and battlemat and wait on the curb," Jonathan thought. He was scheduled to recieve a ride from another member of the Davis RPGA group.
7:40 AM: Jonathan completes his fourth game on backgammon on his cell phone. One win, three losses. He swears the phone cheats.

I haven't been keeping track, but I'm quite sure my gas bill is over $80/month. I even had a buying-gas nightmare, last night. (Part of the same dream that involved driving into a pond.)I'll be leaving on the 16th of June and then tour around Germany, France, and Switzerland for 11 days :D

Find another male or two, follow around a female, and sleep during the day. (There are ducks everywhere on the UC Davis campus... I can take a few pictures even. They are pretty cute.)
This reminds me of a story an instructor told me... but I won't share it as it is kind of sad (for a duck).

My daughter (five years old and feisty as all get-out) is running around outside with pink fairy wings over her t-shirt, boasting to the older kids that "My mom's boyfriend taught me to play soccer!" and summoning whales at the top of her lungs. :D I hope she never feels the need to 'conform,' or fears to follow her dreams.

I dislike crowded movie theaters, but I love a full house in live (whether I'm on stage or in the audience).
Same here. Mostly because I enjoy an audience that gets involved when watching theatre, but I want peace and quiet while watching a movie. I'll probably just go to a matinee for Ep. III though. That usually helps.

Only paid 15 US Dollars to see it at the Midnight showing, and the first showing durning the day. At the midnight showing there was easily 500 to 600 people (perhaps even more not sure when they started letting people in), the line wrapped entirely around the building waiting to get inside. I was at the end when I got there.
Perhaps at most 3 to 5 percent of the people were dressed up, and less than 1 percent of them were dressed up authentic looking. I was not one of them however. There was one guy who had an exceptional Sith outfit, and an unreal lightsaber. It looked like the thing lit up from the base and traveled to the tip. Also it made sound effects like a lightsaber. People chanted for a fight between him and the guy dressed up like Qui-Gon, but it did not happen.
The management of the theater was just as enthused about the movie as everyone there. We cheered when the lights went out, applaud and cheered trailers for Batman Begins, War of the Worlds, Mr and Mrs Smith, and The Fantastic Four. The trailer for The Island was jeered for just plain sucking. Thunderous cheers and applauses as Lucasfilm appeared, and the music and sound needed to be turned up loudly as the crowd drowned the scrolling opening of the scrolling intro.
Laughter, cheers, and oooo's where in what I deemed all the approriate places. The second time was much milder crowd wise, but the audience reactions were about the same in all the same places. The movie was easier to follow, and I think I have caught the other half of things that I might have missed the first time. Palpatine and Anakin's scene together as the Dark Side seduction started totally made me shudder.
Palpatine is truely unmatched in putting a long term plan together and pulling it off, but it is obvious that even he is fearful of what Anakin can do. There is a suggestion that I think gives the whole meaning of the story a different spin entirely. Although it is not said outright it make you shudder and think about it carefully.
Hoping it's better than #2 because I still haven't been able to stay awake through that one so I haven't seen all of it.Probably going this Monday. hooray for mandatory holidays. ^^

This one technically celebrates the birthday of Queen Victoria (May 24th, but people like having their holidays on Monday, so... it's the 24th of May long weekend, even when it's not), so it's not entirely a Canadian thing, except that it's a celebration even the British gave up on ages back.
Then again, we need a May celebration more than they do. Call what they've got in the United Kingdom weather? Pah! We've got your cold fronts right here, pal... :P

:snickers: I always loved the line, "Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May." I was well into my twenties before I experienced that sort of weather; in my home state, it was more like, "Stagnant air and heat exhaustion do wilt the darling buds of May." Most plants had the good sense to finish their blooming no later than April.
Generally, I dislike holidays because, more often than not, they happen here on weekends and as such, a holiday means a day when there is absolutely nothing open in this country except some gas stations and whatever seedy kebab/pizza joints that don't care of what day it is. And of course, being on weekend, on Sundays especially, there wouldn't be about anything open anyway...

More digging uncovered that not only was the principal photography done in New Zealand (film is currently in post-production in Los Angeles), but Richard Taylor and WETA Workshop are covering the effects department. The director is Andrew Adamson (whose previous directorial credits are Shrek and Shrek 2).
This movie's got a lot going for it.
I just hope that the Disney Narnia movie is more than just special effects with a story "based on the novel by C.S. Lewis."
Disney productions, usualy try to remain true to their inspiration. But if you're expecting another Lord of the Rings, I doubt you get it.

It seems his ride down to Las Vegas got himself arrested last night. Unless we postpone the wedding for thirty to sixty days he won't be making it.
Hopefully I can get my brother (the one who shall remain nameless) to agree to ride with his wife, so I can stick the best man in the car he was riding in. Otherwise its another long night of driving for me.
On the plus side, the man performing the cerimomy got his Col. Sanders custume in time, so at least the cerimony will still be a classy one.

Misplaced to someone else. Now that lawyers are involved, the wedding just doesn't seem like its going to be as much fun as I was told it will be.
I'd remind the bride and groom there's still time to cancel it and do the Star Trek Experiance instead, but I rather like being able to breath.
Anyways, this is the last computer access I will have until late Monday night. Hopefully I won't get strangled before then. :-p

She has no idea the pace this course moves at.) One book down, 3 to go before I'm caught up. (Increment by one as of tomorrow evening.) Also two quizzes in the next 24 hours.

He didn't throw anything at me when I told him one of his groomsmen deceided five minutes before the cerimony was an ideal time to take his girlfriend out to lunch.
It's too bad they could not have gotten hitched the day before, I wouldn't have this shiney black eye from when he threw his phone at me during the rehearsal. (The black eye wasn't intentional, he was expecting me to catch it and give instructions to one of several people who were lost.)
All the other problems got sorted out in tim. They found a replacement dress (Luckily the theatre company had one leftover from a play they did a few months ago, and were able to alter it in time.) One of the bridesmaids had a nice flower garden they raided to replace the bruised and wilted ones that got delivered by the florist. The fact that the man performing the cerimony couldn't get liscensed was fixed with the secret wedding. He still got to give his lengthy speech about the... well whatever it was he was yammering on about. (They had a liscensed officiant that was suppose to step in at the important moment, but he had an emergancy, that's why they did the quickie one.) And finally and most importantly I got a new pair of shoes.

I did not think I was even close to doing so.......Well with school closing, only 3 days left for me w00tness :D this only means that I will be leaving for germany with each day passing. Which only means that I won't be here to finish Aramil's little adventure unless we somehow stumble apon the boss right now. So with that in mind, I'll have to leave Aramil and Oskar in care of one of GM's. And I'll revive them when I get back, around the 27th. :D

Nanashi, Esmet, & Tynk: Sorry for the delays. Busy with moving preparations to move + class. (Having two weeks' worth of class in one day, and a quiz due three days after that... yeah.) I actually put "post in GsC" on today's to-do list, which I usually follow pretty closely, but today a number of things on said list were trumped by the spontaneous addition of "throw out my back." Ow. If it keeps me up enough longer, I'll try to post anyway, but my focus is on anything that makes it hurt less, right now.

Natala, Arnor, Anaya, Alissa(she didn't accept it but teh money was there), Daron Haldar, Ivan Granitehammer, and Ulerian were all resurrected, in various forms.
The only characters who shouldn't feasibly be able to be resurrected are the ones without any connections, and even then it can happen if you approach it from the right way.
Not that I'm game to test that out myself but maybe you'd like to?

:bounce:So someone is going to have to roleplay Oskar out, for now he'll just try a Turn check, if that doesn't do anything, and Boirin is hurt or Boirin is dead, he'll just sacrifice himself for the ulitmate good. If they kill the mage, then start dragging the bodies back to the front and work out some type of pully system to bring the bodies out. When I get back, I'll see if I want to raise Aramil depending on the situation, and if he is even out of the sewers ;)

I wish to apologize to Omnimental for putting him in an awkward situation, wherein he believed that he was being condemned for the death of several PCs in this game. I can't speak for everyone here with 100% certainty, but I know I do not feel he is deserving of blame for the death of three PCs and a cohort this month. I'm pretty sure no one else feels that way either, though I know it's rough on people when a PC dies -- even when it's someone else's PC.
It's not a matter of blame. Certain things could have been handled differently and the dice could have been a bit less sadistic, but dice will do as they will and what's the point of player choice if the results are always the same?
However, if anyone feels that the opponent this group faced was too far beyond the party's ability and pitting them against it was a mistake, please be advised that it was my mistake and not Omnimental's. I designed the foe and outlined tactics. I failed to account for several things, while several things I felt to be relevant to the situation were overlooked or discounted -- and then there was the bad luck, which is what turned this from a difficult encounter to just shy of a TPK.
Nevertheless, I do not feel the encounter I laid out was a mistake, nor do I have a complaint with how it was executed by Omnimental. He played his enemy smart, but not invincibly (though I know it sure seemed invincible). The results remind me a bit of a favourite line from The Last Unicorn:
"There are no happy endings, because nothing ends."
That's not always true within the game, but it's pretty clear that in this instance, things are far from over. ;) People have been pretty good about making the most out of this and I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.
But again, for leaving Omnimental to think that I or anyone else was upset with his efforts, I apologize. If anyone has any complaints about the scenario itself, please feel free to contact me, since I was the one who set it out in the first place.
I will also apologize to Codrian and Threfdil while I'm at it. It's been a heck of a month. At least the flooding hasn't been a major concern up here, but it's been a weird week at work, let me tell you. Nevertheless, I'll try to wrap up what I'm doing with that adventure shortly, then get things moving again for the e-mail group.

I think maybe we, or I, should have taken a hint, even if IC characters like Boirin and Aramil were too stubborn to stay away from the fight. ;)
Kywyn showed the only real constant caution although the last thing my character intended to do that he vocalized was leave. It just turned out it was about 12 seconds to late for that.
I suppose after Aramil effectively died the first time we went down, and then we almost lost Boirin the second, were pretty good hints. The mildness of the third attempt, I may be getting these mixed up, gave me hope that the main danger had passed and the rest was a mind game figuring out how to get in. I was terribly wrong. Mistakes were made on our parts, but it’s hard to be 110% effective as a group when playing a game like this, in this format. Still, I underestimated the malice placed before us after we fought the first two encounters. I know I gave the option not to return, but no one took it, and who could blame them. Finishing things feels good.
I don’t think that the encounter was too difficult, but I think that the results may have taken everyone aback. I’ve always said that PC death brings realism into the game. This was an extreme example. It’s just something the PCs and DM must take into account. When do or die encounters are placed before you, you won’t always make it. I don’t think ST or Omni meant to kill anyone, the adventure as a whole was extremely dangerous, and if more even powerful enemies await, I would question things a bit, but as ST said, it was played well, and even with the odds in our favor, we didn’t succeed. So be it, time to move on, and play or not play in whatever way we wish, or the Dm’s allow.
I won’t request Omni not be my DM next time, of course I may not jump at the opportunity to have his dice make my saves either. ;)

I do have to say that this was the most involving, most interesting, most scary adventure I've ever been on. If a high mortality rate is what it takes, then so be it. I'm sad for everyone else who posed a bigger threat than me, but remember I just that poor bastard who springs traps. As much as I hate it I'm not a combat character, at least when fighting undead, constructs, elementals, or things with really big DR. Unfortunately we went up against something that is both undead and has nasty DR.
I'm not too worried about it, I just got to make history is all.

I finished Peter David's Tong Lashing, the third book of his Apropos series, this morning on the walk home from work. Awful humour at times (Ronnell of Clan MacDonnell indeed...), but the story also touches on the issues of justice, vengeance, and mercy (among other serious subjects). I still find myself feeling uncomfortable with how they all play together in that story, and I mean that as a compliment to Mr. David.

Which eventually led me on to the fact that a fresh start wouldn't be so bad, yet I wouldn't want to lose everything that I had with Aramil. So yet again that puts me in an interesting situation, start fresh and have a million possibilities, or continue with Aramil were his basic plan is set, with a twist after the reincarnation..... Any thoughts of yours to guide me would be wounderful :D

I've got one other character submission under review at this time, but it could take a few more days before it's ready. Right now, however, I need to head out for the day. I should be back home sometime this evening and hope to be able to finish a few more tasks here then.

You didn't actually upset me, Shae. Sorry if it sounded that way; I was just home from class, which meant I'd had a slightly stressful evening, and my allergies were acting up. That combination means I have a tendency to clench my jaw anyway, so the roleplaying combined with the effort of concentrating to write the post just tipped me over the edge. It's all roleplaying, though, on both our parts, and I'm finding this an enjoyable scenario to play.
You've got me curious about what you had her saying but changed your mind about, though. ;)

I'm going to do what I can to catch up on a few things this weekend.
Starting tomarrow I will pretty much be gone for the next two weeks, having three weeks of camp to put into two (Band Camp, Drum Major Camp, and Boy Scout Camp).
Anyways the days I'll have internet access are this coming Thursday, for a little bit, and next sunday (8 days from now) but not again after that till July 24. Sorry Adventure folks, I was hoping we could get things off the ground more quickly, but everything is taking forever.

You could do it yourself if you have something in mind. If you'd like a DM to help out, it's best to ask one of them. A lot of times they might be waiting to see what you are going to do. Which is the case with at least one of the DMs right now.
