This is actually one more reason to be concerned with accent usage -- those prone to typos tend to make it much, much worse for those trying to read along. We'll certainly let a lot slide, as long as you remember the "h" belongs in "whisper" and not "wisp", but if I have to work harder to read what you wrote than you had to work to write it, you might understand why I might not look so kindly on your efforts.
(I'm not saying "Don't use it," by the way. I'm just asking you to consider whether it enhances your posts or detracts from them in combination with a bounty of typos. Something has to give in such cases, after all.

Unfortunately, such an act seems to introduce unclarity of meaning without taking into account its effect on spelling and grammar. (Which is why I post less often IC than I otherwise might, these days.)

Hello alls. It's soooo busy these days and I finaly got myself to go to my mom's house for use of internet.
ST, Schez, et all...expect my return by the end of March. Until then I just wanted to drop a greeting by.

For now I am still under financial burden and cannot afford to get my computer internet friendly. That and school/work takes much of my time (15 credits and 36-40 hours/week work tends to leave you with just enough time to use the bathroom).

1. Item creation costs tend to be prohibitive for materials made by any class other than clerics, druids, and wizards. While in one sense, there is some sense to this, the results tend to be a bit unbalanced. By the core rules, a cleric creating a wand of cure light wounds gets 1d8+1 hp of healing per charge for a 50 charge wand that costs only 375 gp to make, while a bard making the same wand pays twice as much for a wand that heals only 1 hp more. Meanwhile, a wizard pays 2250 gp to create a wand of blur, but a sorcerer has to spend 3000 gp for the same wand to increase the duration from 3 minutes to 4. The adjustment to the rules still takes caster level into consideration for purposes of the cost, but the scale of adjustment is not so steep.
2. The diminishing returns on the expense of more powerful cure spells is excessive. By the standard rules, 5d8+5 hp can be cured for a cost of only 50 gp to pay for five castings of cure light wounds by 1st level clerics, while it would cost 280 gp to get cure critical wounds cast once by a 7th level cleric, healing only 4d8+7 hp. Caster level still applies to the spell cost, but not on a scale that nearly always makes it better for a party to have two wands of cure light wounds per individual instead of one wand of cure critical wounds for the group.
3. Most people have a hard time replacing expendable magic in this game, making it much less worth the trouble than might otherwise be the case.
4. The question regarding magical ammunition has always been: "Why would anyone pay for fifty magical arrows when they could afford a magical bow for only a trifle (at least compared to the cost of crafting magical weapons) more? Being able to create them one at a time is not an ideal solution in every case, but there are times it's more practical than commisioning a bow. This issue may be reviewed shortly.

I think I'd like to join this forum, but it's all rather confusing and intimidating. I've read the information and rules thread and have browsed the rest of the forum, including all of the stickies. So, what should I be aware of? And why does it seem like no-one's leveled up for over two months? Is this normal?

Yes, it's normal. The higher your level, the longer it takes to level -- and if you stop being active you don't get experience. We have a number of players who are soooo close to leveling!

Best bet on gettign a character is to contact teh DMs it says to in the Character Creation Rules, or was it the Information Thread.
Well you want to e-mail:
Shattered Tower, Scheherazade, as well as kneyejalib. THey're the main ultra head honchoes around here. their decision usually depends on whether or not they're taking players at the moment but it's always nice to get in touch with them if you're interested in playing. I think I recall Shattered Tower saying something about accepting new players until March. But don't quote me on that my memory of the past two months has been rather and stupidly fuzzy. ;)
As for your leveling question the amount of experience you get depends on what you do and in some cases just sitting around and killing goblins for 10 levels isn't going to get you to level 10 any quicker than going out and interacting with other characters and such. It's kind of a mystery in such ways. *Shrugs*

I think you overlooked a little bit of information when you read that. It's sitting on the second list with all of the other feats of its kind. The initial entry does not note the added benefit, but the subject is covered in that post.

I was knocked out for all this past week......I had "Every thing hurts"......
get better ST.I currently have a migrane drilling holes in my eyes, temples, the base of my skull, and in two places on the back of my head.....The screen hurts my eyes, the rain on the roof feels like someone is pounding on my head. The screen isn't too bad though...its a LCD and they are nicer on the eyes then regular screens......I am going to have some excedrin migrane, ear plugs, and a VERY dark room......night all.

A necromancer? I don't suppose its the same necromancer from my first adventure. He was a nasty man, because we never got passed his Undead Carrion Crawler before Donnavin got knocked silly, Arnor(or his shurch inquisitor incarnation at the time) got whupped up on and Miri plowed off a bolt that just happened to kill on contact. And Jace really doesn't have much problem with things that can't be sneak attacked...He does swing a bastard sword which does some nice damage....Imagine though, having a character with a +2 Str and 2d6 sneak attack incert a bastard sword into you kidneys....need I say more. 1d10+2d6+(3/2)str, A normal hit with max damage is 25. Not to healthy fer ya

Wow. I don't know how Nanashi envisioned himself, but this seems to portray his eccentricities pretty damn well, everything from the hair to the stance!
I will say, however, that for such a wide mouth, his eyes seem remarkably unaffected; the eyes do not laugh with the mouth, suggesting disconnect between the two or perhaps the mouth lies. Either way, the stark open eyes make me think, "Slightly insane in a slightly scary, not endearing way."
Boirin, it's like deciding to help party's paladin by drawing all three lvl 24-25 Shadowhide Gnolls after you... when you are lvl 22 yourself. Hard to find any logic in it.
...I don't want to push things or seem impatient, especially since Natala seems to be having a number of study/children/life related complications that make posting difficult, but I've been sitting around for awhile in something I'm not sure I can advance on my own by NPCing things, since it concerns information I don't have... And I'm extremely reluctant to jump to another thread as an "after that event..."

I realize that the results may be significant to Culex, but until we know what they are, it's going to best to allude to them. He's not likely to get all of his answers from the reading, as you realize, but he might have a better idea of what the questions are.
Allow me to make a suggestion. It's not usually something Natala would propose, but if you wish, she can have at least referred you to the Labyrinth at the Temple of Ordemetrex. This is also not a place that gives straight answers, but it might help you out on your course.
I'm not certain how that subject would come up in the conversation between Culex and Natala and would prefer that you worked that detail out between yourselves in posting. You're given permission to play on as though events at Natala's shop had concluded, but you're not required to go to the Labyrinth right away (or at all). You know Culex best, but you'll need to consider how Natala expresses her advice and whether this might give Culex reason to spend a few days or weeks thinking about it before he goes there (if he goes at all).
It's significant to note that Natala has never been in the Labyrinth. She doesn't seem comfortable discussing that subject either, which is likely to flavour any advice she'd give about the place. It rarely tells people what they need to know and even more seldom what they want to hear. Sometimes it tells them nothing. Sometimes it tells them too much, more than a person can endure or retain. Some walk out with answers (as often as not to questions unasked), some with questions, and some with no recollection of what they experienced at all (for good or ill).
On the other hand, it can also be a great place for quiet reflection, provided you are content to just quietly reflect. Those who enter with doubts in their heart, however, or a pressing need for answers, tend to find this place a bit more "noisy," even if it doesn't do anything about to ease the doubts or answer the questions.
So what Culex would do with such uncertain, cautionary advice... that's up to you. If you'd like to simply wander the streets for a time and find other characters with whom to interact instead (or before heading into another situation that may result in a slower posting rate), please feel free to do so.
As for the issue of the conversation with Natala, if you're content to let it unfold as it will in the meantime, let us know. If you'd prefer a quick resolution, I can provide that instead. Natala will certainly understand and not take offense, as long as I do it properly -- and I think I have just the idea, if it comes to that.

(I will note that the usual way for things to be handled in this particular game would be to assume that the conversation concluded on the day it was started, and to feel free to go on posting elsewhere; but I don't blame you for not being comfortable doing that, and having it concluded ASAP is certainly your perogative.)

Certainly not arguing with your post or your reasoning, but I can't resist teasing you about your phrasing of it, Jace. ;) And just a thought -- you could try using an idea a little less familiar to the reading audience, to indicate that the culture we're dealing with in the game isn't one we meet in daily life. For instance, if you're going to imply that you will eat someone soul by eating a piece of their body (a familiar idea to most, however distasteful) you could suggest that that body part would be, not the heart (the first most players would likely think of, myself included, which means it's the most familiar to your audience) but the liver. (The liver? Seat of the soul? Sounds strange to me, but the Babylonians believed it, and that's exactly what I'm going for: sounds strange, but not so strange there wasn't a people which believed it at some point in history.)
The above may have been long-winded of me, and I apologize. Those who wish to ignore it may, and don't need my permission to do so. Jace, that advice isn't directed at you in particular; it's meant as an example or suggestion to anyone who would like to use their roleplaying to make this game world seem further removed from the one we all share every day. Plenty of people do this all the time, of course, but this one example has stuck in my head since I first read it a few days ago, and this is the first time I've gotten to post since.

Which brings me around to the actual point of this post, which is not responding to random previous posts in Noise.
My computer is broken. Yikes, is it broken; it will have to be replaced, which will be cheaper than repairing it would be. Meantime, I'm stuck borrowing from my husband the laptop assigned to him for work purposes when I want to use a computer, and for a few days there I couldn't even get online with that.
I have a final exam in less than two weeks. This class started in February. Did I mention it's an intensive course? Yeah. Explains a lot, doesn't it? Especially when the two things above aren't the only things which have been keeping me from the game lately.
I'd apologize for holding things up, but that would lead to my beating my head against a wall, sooner or later, so I won't. Instead, I'm making a list:

Not exactly appropriate to roleplaying), though you can feel free to ask whether the time is convenient when you see me online; and I tend to mislay things in my email inbox. (Don't ask how. If you don't understand, I can't explain it.)

Hello everyone, as you may or may not know, I’ve been around here for a long time in one form or the other, since the beginning actually. We’ve gone through lots of changes, no one more than Treble and Arnor character wise. I’ll cut to the quick, so as to keep the short post readers’ attentions.
Garic’s has always been a unique game. It has always had lots of players, and by lots I mean more than the usual group of 3-8, as is generally the norm in DnD. More special, however, is the style of play involved here. We could always go get a bite or a drink, and interact normally, as in how people would were they not on an adventure, with each other. This is still very easily accomplished, but is rarely ever how the game is now played here. Garic’s has always been the factor that we have all had in common, and still is but in far less of a capacity. I know RL has changed for most of us, few more so than myself, and that can take its toll on the way we play the game.
For example let me show you what I mean.
As of today no one has posted in the Last Lich Inn since January 20th.
That used to be the place to be. There are lots of places like this, and aside from Natala’s shop, and Nobody’s, this city is more or less dead. Nothing happens here, in the city. When was the last time it was locked??? This setting of a city is the main thing that makes the game unique. Players can hold businesses, be parts of groups, and even have residents here. They can be part of a community, with each other, and NPCs alike. Now I know one could do that in any RPG environment, but since this is, or was focused on a particular city, it made it special, not just some stop along the road of many travels or where the characters were from.
Each character, player and DM has their own motives, which is how it should be, but Garic’s City has become little more than a spring board for adventures, and this may be the intent. The City, and thus the community, has become secondary to adventuring. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good adventure, and it’s a great way to increase in level, which leads to power, money, etc. My current character for example, is all about gaining power and knowledge for himself and seeking out his own goals, the greater good is not a consideration. However, each of our roles in the city has decreased over time, as the city’s importance has decreased. Some still cling to that interaction with other PCs outside adventures, but for the most part, and I am guilty of this as well, that is rarely a goal. No one seems to talk to each other anymore.
Now, let me explain my intentions. This is not a rant at the DMs, or players, or those that have come and gone, just simply an explanation of my own feelings. I have been somewhat of a stranger, RL is the main cause of this. Also, I am playing a rather unsocial character in my own right. I am not one to go out and start an conversation with another character merely just to do, so the validity of my thoughts may very well be questioned. It is just something I have noticed of late, and thought I’d share it with those who are concerned.
I am not suggestion there needs to be a change, just that there has been one.

If you're hanging out here as often as that, it's easy and convenient to do lots of in-character stuff that doesn't require DM intervention. If you didn't, there was nothing to do since the DMs could never keep up with that kind of demand. Nowadays, 90% of my waking hours are spent studying or working. I still like to shoot the breeze every now and then, but if you can only spend about half an hour on average each day with your character, it stands to reason you'd like to do some 'real' stuff as well. Plus, chatting in character isn't really convenient if every other sentence has to wait for another day.
Those of us that are oldtimers seem to have a lot more RL concerns than we used to (just ask Natala) and the more recent additions to the roster apparently don't enjoy the kind of situation we were in during our early days.
Are we still a community? I think so. A different one, for sure, but I like to believe that those posting here now would, given the same circumstances we were in back in the day, would do things a lot like we did. I'm sure I would.
Arnor (now Ulerian), Bradachin (now Ran), Cassius (who started as a GM), Darkar, Hermy, Ivan (now Thosar), Kywyn, NaShae, Natala, Raen (now Codrian), Shadow (now Tensek), and Talleran (also a former GM, now Threfdil).
A dozen, unless I've missed anyone -- and I apologize if I have. (We don't see Thosar as often as we should, though. :P) Now let's see who else we've had for more than two years:
Anaya, Aramil, Ashina (now Lucian), Donnavin (now Treetrip), Kai, Mirielle, Sensandela, and Tawnos (now Jaer, who is still participating indirectly).
That's another eight -- and I'll make it nine if Gamis ever stops lurking and posts again. :P And for those with more than a year?

In this time, we've seen a lot of people depart from the game due to scheduling demands, with university being a major factor. I'm a bit surprised at how many new parents (Anaya, Cassius, Natala, Threfdil -- and Thanatis, should he ever return, nor have I forgotten that another child was born to the family of Dajuid/A'maelhin while the game was running) are still part of the game, but I see no cause for complaint in that. ;)
The oldest player was over forty (Zanderat). The youngest was twelve (Slagar). Sometimes, the age difference has been a bit of a strain for some people, as not everyone knew how to talk to everyone else. I recall the silence that greeted Slagar's proud "I've got a new puppy," for example -- and have to admit that I didn't know how to respond myself. I think I should have, however. If there is a community here, there should be some response when a person has something to share. I've been rather negligent of that of late, for those who are sick, overworked, offered a new opportunity of some sort, etc.
But as many of you know, that role isn't mine alone. If the concern is with the rules, sure, but if it's with the players themselves, if there is a community, you are all part of it, regardless of how long you've been here or how little time you have to participate in the game. I know people don't talk here the way they used to. Some of that came about from the need to cut down chatter that was making it impossible for players to communicate with each other about when they were going to be on next and what they should do IC. But the chatter wasn't so much about what was going on in your lives as it was a barrage of smiley posts or odd links or spontaneous spamming. (Not always a bad thing, but it became necessary to create a secondary OoC post for it for awhile.)
Things have changed for the better in that regard -- the PM system allows you to correspond with up to five people per message, and it's an ideal system for OoC discussion of an adventure or event. That means we've been able to relax the standards for Noise posting again, which is good, since people are a bit more free to blow off steam on silliness. (It's good to have a means of interacting with other players even when you're either too tired to post or would prefer to wait for a reply to your IC post from other players.)
The subject of the city itself as a focal point is a very good one, one that saw a lot of discussion from the days of Rorshac. He was legitimately concerned with how out of city adventuring took people out of the community for long periods of time and how that could detract from the community in ways. I would prefer to limit the number of adventures (especially those that take people away from the city) going on at any given time much more than is currently the case -- small, shorter encounters tend to be less demanding on the system, as we've found out.
However... there is a demand for adventures. Strictly speaking, there is no need for them, but there is a demand. Now that they tend to take longer to run, they don't increase levels more quickly than would playing around the city, but they do tend to be more profitable (a few have been more expensive than staying home would have been, however). On the other hand, leaving the city means keeping the body count at home down. This wouldn't be a concern with a four player game, but when there are a dozen or two of you at it, things get messy in the city. It suffered enough from the Night of Shadows as it was, don't you think? ;)
Actually, it's not true that there's no need for adventure. What's the point of playing a hero if there are never any adventures, hmm? Events in the past have created situations that will have to be resolved, even if many of the parties that were involved with these events are no longer with us. (I hope that some of them will come back, but we've had to work around that more than once before.) One of them is rather big and it will have to be met soon. To that end, I'm going to have to declare a moratorium on adventures at this point. There might be something of a local nature for the low-level types, but otherwise nothing new starts until the rematch at Hent Manevelins is settled. It's been nearly two years, making it well overdue. To avoid further delay, it's necessary to avoid any distractions that make those involved (or that can be involved) unavailable once more, as has too often been the case in the intervening years.
Not everyone in the city is involved or interested in getting involved in that event. There are a few other events brewing within the city that can involve them (without taking them out of regular in-city play, I might add), and I recommend making use of those. Two of those got stalled in the last year, but should be more than enough to give all players a common cause or two, in much the same way the Night of Shadows or the Centipede War did. The two events did have more than their share of problems, but they did bring the general community together in a big way, despite the regrettable absence of more than a few key players from both.
So once they're done, that's it for most of the adventures for awhile. Use the opportunity this gives you to get to know one another again (or for the first time). Don't feel you have to wait on that either. There's no reason people can't prepare scenes in advance by e-mail correspondence or IM play, to be posted later. (But I beg of you, folks, if you do this, please clean the post up before you submit it. Edit out such distracting material as IM names and posting times/dates. Ideally, give some thought to editting wording to help the flow between posts. Things look a lot less mechanical when you've got time to sidestep descriptions dependent on a turn-based system. Don't just submit the interaction as you played it out without giving some thought to how it's going to read.)
Something else that will help is to arrange for meeting times. We used to have a "When Are You Here?" thread to tell people when others were on and offline. It was a nice idea, but the trouble is that most people didn't update it or check it. It's much more effective to set up a time with other players in person, I've found. Sometimes, that's not possible between certain people, in which case you might be best off to set your posts up in advance and submit them in installments, should you wish to avoid Trebling. For instance, if Ulerian and Tyros, who tend to be online at different times of the day, wish to have a conversation that won't take them out of general interaction with other players or self-contained posts, I suggest that the pair start their conversation in e-mail, continuing their other posting as normal on the board, and then release the results when they've completed the meeting. (If they plan to meet several times, then they can release each meeting as they complete it, working nicely around other events in the meantime.)
I'm not "solving" the problem here. In some ways, as Ran notes, it's not entirely a problem for everyone. The game has changed. However, for those who do wish for more ready access to interaction with a broader population base (an option I feel should be more available than it is to those who wish to have it), I offer these suggestions to make it a bit easier.
I've one last suggestion that might help. Keep the lines of communication open, the way Ulerian did today. If you'd like some interaction, post here. It helps if you can give people a head start, mind you. Let them know if you plan to be around for a few hours tomorrrow or later that day (but provide your time zone in the post, so people know when you mean to be on). PM them if you have someone specific in mind. Let anyone (not just GMs) know if you could use their help moving things along. And keep talking with each other. People don't have the same amount of time as they used to, but if they are reminded that there are other people here who are interested in talking with them, more than a few of them will have extra incentive for stopping by.
I admit that I find it a strain, what with trying to keep up with the rest of the game's demands. I'm not going to be very social for precisely that reason, but if there's a game issue (and this one is most certainly a game issue), I will do my best to work on it for you. But your best chance for interaction with the community itself is between the players. Please don't miss out on the opportunities you afford each other.
It's a good question and thank you for bringing it up. What's surprising, when you think about it, is how many people are still here after three years. Only one of the three original GMs is still here, and only one other former GM (of the five others to hold that position) still plays, and we've lost all three of the big "NPC players" (though I thought it was a treat to have Redrik post something for UnCon), but let's see what we've still got of those who started within a month of this game getting underway:
Arnor (now Ulerian), Bradachin (now Ran), Cassius (who started as a GM), Darkar, Hermy, Ivan (now Thosar), Kywyn, NaShae, Natala, Raen (now Codrian), Shadow (now Tensek), and Talleran (also a former GM, now Threfdil).

I would like to make a small suggestion concerning things in the city. I wasn't hoping to get Epic Adventures in the city, like Night of the Shadows, etc, I was merely talking about the lack of IC activity outside adventures, and how that has changed. However, I think it makes things a bit more fun to have some small events that a few players at a time could get involved in. I know this is a fantasy game, as it should be, but I know some of the laws of reality apply here as well. To live in a city where nothing ‘bad’ or ‘evil’ ever happens is very unrealistic. I know there are NPC organizations that can deal with crime and the like, the Guards and Jackels for example, but a few little case specific events would not hurt one bit, as a matter of fact, I think it would be very beneficial to the game, city and community. Garic’s is home for our characters, and they want to keep it safe and peaceful so they can go off and seek fortune and glory, no whatever scale they wish, or conduct business there, etc.. but what are the character to the city? How important are they? Would the city care if that shady ranger Tensek went out on an adventure, and never came back, or Kywyn, Codrian, or Ran? Maybe, but likely not. Some have real affiliation with important groups, Darkar for example, if they only knew his beginning alignment… ;)
Our roles in the city are not, and this is generally speaking, important. Now it’s not ST’s role to make us all stand up citizens, protectors of the fair walled Shangrala that is Garic’s, and each character has his or her own motives, Ulerian for example, will likely never be a truly needed asset to the city. However, a good starter, or pace breaker now and then, may be some small encounter in the city. A monster, criminal, or whatever, could be placed into the every day activities of a couple of characters and really spice up the norm. It doesn’t have to be a 6 month RL trek like what those seeking honor folks are going through, but a couple of weeks or days even..
I know RL and planning get in the way, but something disrupting a stroll to the market to get some ink, or mutton, may be a fun way to change the pace, from time to time.
Perhaps I am just rambling, am my impatience getting to me. Just a little idea I thought I’d throw out there, though to what point is unknown…

My roommate is a 3D graphic artist. It is a VERY VERY hard industry to get into. I know that NAIT the school I went to for Radio Production has an okay 3D animation program. Not sure about other places though. *shrugs* I've never looked into it. =P

Sounds not so great, but then there's Bioware up here in Edmonton that makes the Top 100 Employers in Canada list, so might just depend on the company. I have been having the bank blues as of late. I overdrew my checking account (by accident, I had the money... in a different account). Then I took care of that and decided I had to close out this other account because it had dropped below the minimum level before they start charging me. So I do it, I travelled about 100 miles to visit the bank, empty the platinium checking account (generates a lot of interest) into a new savings account that had no minimum balance.
I thought it was over.
It was not.
Ring-ring. "Hello?"
"Hey Jon?"
"Dad?"
"Yeah, we just got a letter saying you overdrew your platinium account."
"What!?"
"Yeah, it says you are at $9.80-."
So today, I go there and I find out the reason I got charged was because my platinium account, which I thought was closed, wasn't. My account had generated $3.20 of interest after I had emptied it.
The silverlining: I now hold in my hands $3.20.

Oh ho ho! Nanashi has a question for the sages! What are Voladus' Rare Goods and Low-Life's Bric-a-Brac mentioned on the map? He sees them in the Market Place, but hasn't found any mention of them in that thread.
Those go back to the early days of the game, when a number of PCs owned businesses in the city. We never really saw Voladus in action, so his business drifted out of use, as did Raulnor's Emporium and a few others. I couldn't describe Voladus if I tried, sadly, so it's best to ignore that note for now.
Low-Life's Bric-a-Brac (until you pointed it out, I didn't even realize it had been given a name) was more of a worn out blanket than a shop. Low-Life the Half-Orc would spread items he found discarded in the sewers out on his blanket (after cleaning them up -- and fixing them, if he could, though he was limited in that regard to what the mending spell could do). Most of it was junk, but sometimes you could find use for that.
Low-Life was a druid with a small swarm of rats (called Rat, rAt, raT, RAt, RaT, rAT, etc... you get the idea) attending him, usually hiding in the folds of his dirt-encrusted robe. He likes baths, however, when he can get one, and he's prone to singing (not well enough to earn an income, but it's not unpleasant to the ear) in Sylvan in one. While he is perfectly fluent in Sylvan (and doesn't know Orc, if I recall my notes correctly), his Common is a bit off. I can't do the accent as well as he did, but the closest approximation I can get is... blast, the closest I can come to that might be familiar to many D&D players is the loud, ragged characters that sometimes appeared in Monty Python episodes, who would talk slowly, loudly, and enunciate their words in a sort of rounded fashion, sort of like being clipped, but more drawn-out. Let me see if I can recall some of the mannerisms he used.
"Ullo, Mister Cog! I like barfs [baths]! Tank yoou, Mister Cog. Yur a good frien'."
Not perfect, but I hope it gives you some idea. He tends to be friendly but shy. He doesn't want to get other people in trouble, which is why he stopped hanging around the Last Lich Inn (where many clients didn't like this unclean half-orc hanging around) unless they needed his help. He has been shown eating food that's been thrown out, but he casts purify food and drink on it first, which means that it's at least edible, if not always appetizing to look at, when you consider where he acquired it.
He's usually quite gentle, but can be ferocious if forced to defend himself. (He doesn't snarl as Grack does, but he can hit pretty hard). Otherwise, he might be seen as a bit of a dim oaf, even if he's not really that dim. (He's got a decent enough Wisdom score, for one thing. I'm not sure where his Intelligence and Charisma lie, but they're around human average, possibly a bit higher or lower.)
I don't know if you'll need all that, but it seemed worth mentioning one of the more unique characters that used to roam the market square. He never left the city, so he's probably still out there, even if he'll need to be NPC'd to find him.
I'll have an adventure post up this afternoon, once I expiate some housework guilt. I have 2 projects due when I get back, and one of them is a AP. Chem term paper, well it's sort of a term paper, more of a research paper that 10-15 pages long.

Oh yeah, I am curious which Paladins and Warriors of Light are still in the city (not on adventures), it is kind of boring (not to mention pathetic) roleplaying alone, and thus far my subtle (and less than subtle) attempts to interact with another player have been rather disappointing and fruitless.
I'm not seeing anything pathetic about being able to RP alone. Among others, Kywyn and Hermy have done a pretty good job of it over the years when they felt so inclined.
And "less than subtle" like, "Hey send me a PM, e-mail, AIM, ICQ, .NET, or Y! message." Which was like 3 weeks ago (still no message btw).
I already found out from Nigel that the target of my subtle (and slightly less subtle attempt) was totally miscalculated. (Next time I will use the subtlety of a guided missile. And when that doesn't work... I'll just have to upgrade the payload.)

Instead of bemoaning that fact, I worked on building up a background of activities in game, using the world with which I was presented. I ended up getting involved with other PCs because they knew there was something to work with there.
The fact is that some of the most involved players in this game are those who have been exceptionally good at self-management. Whether they're alone or there are other people around, something's going on, and people tend to gravitate to that. Maybe it's because they know they won't have to carry the other person. Maybe it's because it means they can get a good idea of who they're interacting with before they get stuck in a scene with them.
I know there's a project in the works, but most of the characters most likely to be involved (Culex, Daleah, Pacone, Treetrip -- not saying all will be involved, but they're the most likely) do not post very frequently. If you want to stay active and involved with that group, you'd have to be prepared to pad your activity level yourself. Kywyn has a particular talent for that -- things happen even when he's waiting for things to happen. The others on his current adventure have likewise proven pretty good at it.
You'll have to pardon me, but I don't really have much patience for "I'm bored." My knee jerk response is, "Then do something." It's not like you're not surrounded by opportunity. Nobody owes you interaction and it's not worth my trouble to compel anyone to provide it for you.
Right now, I see seven other characters active in the city. Pacone and Culex appear to be on extremely limited posting schedules right now, and both are trying to complete a specific scene. Daleah and Renna are progressing slowly with their scene, but it seems a good place for another character to drop in -- you may wish to ask in advance. Tynk has been around a fair bit of late as well, and some of his interests in character development might make him a good one with whom to arrange for interaction. And finally, there's Esmet and Nanashi. I'm not sure if Neb would have a reason for going to Nobody's Inn, and they are posting at a rather slow rate, but it might be possible to fit into that scene as well. (Again, you may wish to ask them if they've room for a third before you join. I don't think they'll object, based on what I've seen, but they might appreciate the courtesy. I know Esmet's time is very limited.)
Also, I've noticed that your request for parties with whom Neb can interact was defined in terms that left out both Nanashi and Tynk. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that Nanashi told people where he'd be today -- and at what time. Now if that's out of your posting schedule, that's understandable, but it would have helped to at least mentioned that, rather than seem to ignore someone who specifically set a time and place for interaction. I'd hope it's not because he was "pathetic" enough to write a solo scene while he tried to figure out his next step. (I'd prefer if it wasn't because you couldn't work around his concept either. If a paladin can work around it... :P) But if that is a problem, why not at least try to set something up with Tynk by PM or e-mail? Your posting schedules are pretty close to each others, from what I can see.
Failing that, you're really going to have to wait until one of the adventure groups gets back to town or Treetrip gets back from his trip abroad. It's not a bad offer, though.

Attunement: Your personal essence may be used to enhance prized possessions, but only for your personal use. Masterwork or magical arms and armor may be empowered with benefits as though you had the Craft Magical Arms and Armor feat and appropriate spells. Wondrous items that are worn (such as a belt or gloves) may likewise be further empowered, as though the character was adding powers to an item with the Craft Wondrous Item feat, so long as the item does not have a limited number of uses (such as a brooch of shielding). This costs you XP equal to one half the gp it would otherwise cost to improve the item's powers. Wondrous items can only be improved in this fashion to offer or improve a bonus (such as deflection or enhancement). The attune bonus may not exceed one third the character's level, or half the level for an armor bonus.
By expending XP equal to 10% of a ring's listed gp cost, it becomes a slotless item for you, though it must still be worn normally.
For every 10% of a staff's listed price you spend in XP, you can expend 1 charge per day at no further cost in XP, to a limit of 10 charges. These charges do not count toward the limit set by your spellcasting ability modifier.
These items grant attuned benefits only to the one attuned to them, but the appropriate item creation feats can be used to improve such an item for general use at half the usual cost. You cannot spend so much XP on an attuned item that your character loses a level.
Sustainable Reserves of Magic: A spellcaster who selects this ability has become familiar enough with lower level spells to the point that they may be replenished repeatedly each day. Spells affected by this benefit cannot require a slot higher than one third of your casting level. By trading in a second level, the benefit applies to spell slots of up to one half of your casting level.
A bard or sorcerer needs only 15 minutes to regain access to used spell slots this way. Spellcasters who prepare spells may require more time: one hour to prepare the entire daily capacity and proportionately less for only a portion of that amount, to a minimum of 15 minutes four one quarter or less of the daily allotment of spells.
I've also made adjustments to three spells in the rules entry on magic:
Mind Fog: In addition to the effects listed, those who fail the Will save are dazed for one round.
Protection from Arrows: Change the protection to damage reduction 5/bludgeoning vs. ranged attacks. At 11th level, the benefit improves to 5/bludgeoning and magic vs. ranged attacks.
Stoneskin: While the spell remains in effect, its recipient is also immune to critical hits or sneak attack damage. The extra damage this would otherwise have caused is still applied against the damage the spell can prevent before it's discharged, however.
And finally, there's been an adjustment to how a magical staff works:
Instead of using up a nonrenewable supply of charges, activating a staff draws off a portion of the user's essence to power the effect: 10 XP per charge expended. If the spell used has an expensive material component, the staff user expends an additional number of XP equal to 20% of the material cost. A staff can only expend a number of charges per day equal to the user's relevant ability score modifier. If several individuals use the staff in a day, count each use for this purpose. For example, if Cassius (Int 18), uses 3 charges (and 30 XP) to cast repulsion from a staff of abjuration, then hands it to Mirielle (Int 20), who uses it to cast resist energy (1 charge and 10 XP), she will still able to use 1 more charge, but Cassius cannot use it again that day. On the other hand, she could only use 1 charge from a staff of life per day, as her Wisdom score is only 12. (Even Natala couldn't trigger its resurrection power without first enhancing her Wisdom to 20 or higher to spend the 5 charges needed, in addition to the 50 XP plus another 2000 xp to cover the material cost.) You cannot use the staff to cast spells if the loss of XP would cost you a level.

No, when a damage reduction listing includes "and", it means "both", rather than "or", which means "either".
Note the difference between wording in the entries for a babau demon (10/cold iron or good) and the more powerful marilith (10/good and cold iron). This is also explained in the glossary at the back of the Monster Manual in more detail.

Hello, reading IC threads helps if you want to integrate certain elements into your character, but I think you could always submit first with the basics worked out and hammer out the details as the character is working through getting approved.
As is often the case, Kywyn offers excellent advice.
It is always a good idea to read recent posts (the last day or two) as well as the first entry of any thread to which you're about to post. This gives you an idea for the nature of the place as well as of the most recent events. Just don't feel you have to limit yourself to those posts -- people like to know if one of their posts entertained them.Speaking of which, I'm not sure where to begin today. I've been enjoying the conversation between Tynk and Treetrip. The description of what's happening in the background was a good touch as well, though one must be careful not to view Volos as too much the servant. He's got to take care of a number of very important matters, after all, so he's probably not the best person to wait on to bring you a drink or a meal. (And just be careful about invading that kitchen unbidden as well. ;))
Seeing the way Tensek and Gilgiga have approached hobgoblin interrogation was also very insightful into both of the character. It takes some skill to have a character speak sparingly and yet cover enough essential points to move things along for everyone else.
I'll agree with what others have said about Nanashi's posts. Very interesting reading. Got a chuckle out of them a few times as well, but the laughs didn't feel out of place for the situations, which is good.

Edit: In my last post (chapter house), when I said the farewell, I nearly said "May Pholtus Light Your Way on the True Path." :P I was half way through typing Pholtus when I realized what I nearly did.
But, Pholtus is a Greyhawk deity. In the Theocracy of the Pale Metaregion (where I reside because I live in Northern California), Pholtus is the main deity. And the majority (like 99%) of Clerics are Humans of Pholtus and of those, about 90% are apart of the "Church of the One True Path" (Pholtus is the only god, all the rest are Demon Prince Pretenders). So that phrase makes sense in 'Pale Context,' but not so much in GsC context.

Everyone who plays D&D might be interested in learning second-hand that the broadsword is a strenuous weapon to use. Today was the last day of my stage combat class, and after several weeks of unarmed, rapier, and rapier-and-dagger, we picked up these suckers and got medieval. The fight was that between Macbeth and Macduff, a quillion kept getting caught in my hip pocket while trying to fight, and my back muscles (especially my lats) are telling me all about it.

The Longsword owner doesn't have platinium pieces. The Bow owner has Electrum, and isn't the Gnome. And the Dwarf doesn't live next to the Halfling.

I'll admit, I was initially inclined to say the halfling. They are, after all, theiving little mongrels (no offense Hermy).
But in the end I had to choose the elf, because the other four were sleeping, and elves don't sleep.
I was also going to do an old time detective run down, where I list all the suspects and slowly eliminate them to build tension (Poirot), but instead I just arrested the damn dirty elf and let everyone get back on with their lives.

Eh? Did I forget to update his character sheet? That's odd. I know he selected to add a point to his Constitution score... let me see here... aha... I see what happened. Sorry, folks. Usually I update the sheet on the GsC board first and then the DM backup copy, but for some reason, I only updated the backup, not the main copy. I wonder if I was in a rush or just couldn't get the boards to load that day?
In any case, yes, Kai's hit point total should be 44, not 36. If his current standing of -17 hps is based on a 36 point total, he will in fact be standing right at... -9. That's still pretty grim, to be honest. I don't know if this would have a bearing on Silmarwen's chosen action (since her chosen action could just as easily be the difference between life or death for Cassius), but it may be relevant to others, who might be able to save him.
That is, they might be able to save him if he doesn't end up in the path of another lightning bolt, since an unconscious creature isn't entitled to the benefits of evasion. (Curiously, he's still permitted a Reflex save, though his effective Dexterity score is 0 for that purpose.) But in any case, there's life, there's hope, and... well, cross your fingers and feel free to adjust actions accordingly, if you deem it appropriate. Just keep in mind that he's not the only one in danger right now. ;)

Man...it kinda hits ya pretty hard. I've been playin Kai for alomost 3 years or so and now he's dead. It feels like my favorite kitty just died all over again. Thanks guys for getting things straighten out. But I don't think Kai can recover from -9 HP. I'll see what happens in the next few post but once things play out like I suspect, then I will post Kai final thoughts on his death. Geese are cool (btw, Codrian, geese don't quack - they honk :P ). No turkey vultures perhaps, but I've often considered picking one as a familiar or animal companion. Popular history credits the geese of Rome for saving the Capitol by warning the defenders when enemies tried to sneak in. Being foiled by geese - now that's got to burn. :D

I stand firm in my conviction that Kai actually stands at -4 right now (would be -3 if those 44.5 hp would be rounded up). You have his stats so you can check - the entire thing was based on Kai's last levels stats (31 hp), unless I'm very much mistaken (and I don't see how, I've checked the numbers) Kai should have 44.5 now, for a difference of 13 hp to be counted against that initial -17. Hope springs eternal.

Nanashi, Treetrip, Tynk, the results of the opposed Bluff vs. Sense Motive checks are as follows:
Nanashi: 9 + 6 = 15
Tynk : 9 + 2 = 11
Treetrip: 20 + 7 = 27
So even if it was a pretty believable bluff, Treetrip isn't buying it. I'm not sure what the bluff was supposed to be, though I assume it's about the reason you've given for sleeping outdoors?
I'd considered replying to this by PM, but since there were three of you involved, I decided to save myself a minute of typing out three SNs and hoping back and forth between screens. In the meantime, there are the results, and Treetrip can act on them according to how he sees fit. ;)

Generally though, bluff checks are only used when a person is trying to hide something important. Everyone lies as part of their daily life, it is just that 'white lies' are so trivial that they don't occur to us as 'lying' and don't trigger the normal lying actions.

It really happened this time. But that doesn't mean he can't still return: there have been several characters that have returned from beyond the veil in this game (Arnor, Anaya, ...) and one that got the opportunity but declined (Hermy's ticklekitten whose name escapes me at the moment - Alissa?). I doubt Kai is looking for something along those lines, but I could always be mistaken.

Rules Q: Can I take more than one free action a round?
For example, from purely rules' PoV you could draw and drop an infinite amount of weapons in one round if you had Quick Draw. Another example, a Thief-Acrobat could drop prone and stand up an infinite number of times per round if number of free actions weren't limited any way.
And I'll be around for the rest of the night, though I may head downstairs and play some more PS2 later on.... ;)
GM Note: Flint is going to be a medium level cleric, I'm thinking like level 9ish, so he'll be able to cast Restoration if I am correct. Then after Oskar meets Flint, Flint will become Oskar's teacher and Oskar in turn will become Flints understudy. So it will work out in the long run ;)

Now I've heard that theres a +7 underwear of Enlarge (Enlarge is a +3 enhancement), but I've never seen it. My guess is that its an artifact item that has been lost due to some reasonabley long yet entirely unwholesome backstory.
