| #2savarJul 29, 2007 18:50:15 | Savar growls and pulls out his crossbow. The half-orc wants to fight the beasts head-to-head with his new glaive, but prudence overrides bloodlust. If there's no reason to see them up close just yet, then why waste anymore of his own blood than he has to? He pulls out his crossbow, lines up a shot on one of the ghouls close to Malic, and fires. Then he steps to the ladder that Thorik disarmed the spring on and stays ready to climb down at a moment's notice. "Are these things smart enough to understand us?" he asks Harou. "We've been calling our battle tactics out for the whole world to hear before now. Mabey we should use some more caution, if these enemies have the brains to use that against us." Fight! Shooting at a random ghoul that's on the lowest level he can get a good aim at. Also moving to the ladder that Thorik worked his magic on. |
| #3harou_dupJul 29, 2007 22:16:35 | "If you are worried about that then surprise them and leap down and attack them." he says as he fires his crossbow "I am not concerned with what they know about us. I am in no mood to barter or speak with such evil." OoC +3 to hit 1d8 |

| #5kneyejailbJul 30, 2007 9:14:45 | The bolts and hammer fly, all striking their targets. The ghouls don't fall, instead they snarl and start moving towards the ladders. (Provided they don't fall first of course.) |

| #7harou_dupJul 30, 2007 9:54:45 | "It seems that they will come to us Savar." He comments firing again. "Everyone attack the one at the top of the closest ladder." OoC +3 to hit, 1d8 damage. Fire at the highest climber. If one reaches the top then draw sword and change tactics to spell casting! |
| #8thorik_whitestoneJul 30, 2007 10:58:33 | Thorik nods his head in agreement. He pulls his two remaining hammers, holding one in each hand. When he is sure of his aim, he throws both at the top most ghoul. After both hammers have been released, he removes the shield from his back, and unsheathes his axe. ooc +4 d4+2, +4 d4+2 |
| #9savarJul 30, 2007 15:37:56 | Savar starts to reload his crossbow, but stops and looks at the ladders curiously, chewing one lip. "Why not bottleneck them by making them come up just one ladder? They'll come up slower and we'll get free shots at them as they try to climb up. Hell, if we have to, why not cut down all the ladders and waste all our ammunition killing the damned things? We can always go down by rope." Taking his own advice, Savar sets his crossbow down, takes his glaive, and runs over to whatever ladder the ghouls seem likely to be able to use first. He then uses a combination of glaive slashes and kicks to try to knock away the ladder. Still, if they're up here then they won't be down there trying to rip Malic to pieces. But they don't seem to know about him...yet. Let's hope he stays quiet and doesn't get hit when the bodies start falling. I feel bad for the poor kid. He's missing out on all the fun. |
| #10harou_dupJul 30, 2007 16:33:18 | "Well yes, isolate them and prevent them from springing the traps so that they fall down on Malic and kill him." |
| #11thorik_whitestoneJul 30, 2007 16:48:33 | "Well unless I can disarm them traps, they'll be fallin' anyway!" He says as he starts removing his shield and axe. |
| #12kneyejailbJul 31, 2007 1:56:25 | Thorik tosses both his hammers at the ghoul first up the closest ladder. One of them strikes the thing in the shoulder. The other hammer falls harmlessly down into the muck below. The ghoul keeps coming. Harou fires his crossbow down at the same ghoul. It hits home, joining the earlier bolt the wizard fired. The ghoul tumbles off the ladder and crashes to the bottom of the pit. Down below, Malic hears a small thud of something hitting the ground, followed quickily after by a larger one. Ghouls are coming up the three remaining ladders. Savar moves to the next closest one to where Thorik and Harou are and tries to tip it over. For a trapped object, it seems very attached to the wall. The ghouls continue to climb. Show Thorik 26/26 Pawl 10/11 Harou 21/23 Malic 11/ 30 plus 5 non lethal Savar 27/27 plus 5 non lethal Ghouls Correction to the earlier sblock. There are a total of 12 (11 now) ghouls about to start climbing the ladders. Three (two now) can reach the top at the end of one more round. Three the round after that. Three after those ones. And then three more after that. (Provided they don't fall first of course.) The four ghouls from the room the sprung ladder was in merely hiss and stare upwards. |
| #13thorik_whitestoneJul 31, 2007 2:24:07 | With axe in hand and shield held high, Thorik tries to position himself between Harou and the climbing ghouls. "Keep pulling that trigger magician. I'll do me best ta keep em' off ya." ooc Delay action. If thats possible with the movement. Wait until Savar makes his attack before I swing at it. And if Savar drops it, I'll try to hit the next one. +4 d6+2 x3. |
| #14savarJul 31, 2007 5:45:03 | Savar grunts in frustration. "Well, I should have guessed that whoever set the ladders up would want one good one to use. Looks like the trapper made sure his way up and down wasn't going to come loose." Not wanting to stand around and wait for the monsters to come to him, Savar looks around and tries to find a heavy, but not unvomeable, corpse to throw down at them. If he can find one, he lifts it over his head, staggers to the edge, and drops it on the ghoul nearest to the top of the ladder. If he can't, then he stands next to Thorik and awaits the undead. OoC If he can't drop one of the bodies, then he positiones himself at the top of the ladder and attacks down as soon as one of the ghouls comes into reach. Power attacking for 2; +7, 1d10+11. |
| #15harou_dupJul 31, 2007 8:09:49 | "Savar, stop, do not knock them down onto Malic. He is isolated and in the dark." He says as he reloads and fires again. "Malic, climb the rope!" He shouts down the pit. "Stay together. When they reach we must protect one another, as a group. If they isolate us, we will be sorry. Try to funnel them to us, and I will burn as many as I can." |
| #16kneyejailbJul 31, 2007 8:33:15 | Thorik moves into position to defend Harou, while the wizard fires another bolt into an approaching ghoul. Savar finds one of the smaller devil corpses and starts dragging it towards the pit just as the first of the ghouls reach the tops of the undisarmed ladders. The snap of the latch coming up rings, and those two ladders come off the wall and start to tilt away. The three ghouls on those two tumble into the air and plummet towards the pit bottom and Malic. The two ghouls on each of the lower rungs of those manage to make it back into their rooms and hiss in frustration. The three remaing ghouls on the ladder Thorik earlier disarmed continue climbing. The first should reach the top in seconds. Six large thuds followed by hissings alert Malic that he isn't alone at the bottom of the pit anymore. Show Thorik 26/26 Pawl 10/11 Harou 21/23 Malic 11/ 30 plus 5 non lethal Savar 27/27 plus 5 non lethal Ghouls Six ghouls are now in the bottom of the pit. Three are climbing up towards Thorik and Harou. Two are stuck (momentarily) in the rooms after their ladders tilted. Four are still stuck in their rooms due to Malic tripping the ladder to their room earlier. Don't forget though. There are ladders from the rooms the ghouls are trapped on, leading down to where Malic is. I haven't. ![]() |
| #17harou_dupJul 31, 2007 8:41:42 | "Damn..." "Savar, you and Thorik assault those reaching the top, I have to aid Malic now!" Harou moves to the safest edge of the pit, keeping oncoming ghouls on the other side of Savar and Thorik if possible. He begins an incantation and points towards the pit. A large ball of fire erupts in the pit, and he begins burning ghouls. OoC Casting flaming sphere as far down as possible into the pit below, range is plenty, but sight may be an issue. I am not sure what the situation really is as far as levels, rooms, ladders and whatnot, only semi. However, the sphere sheds light as a torch and thus illuminates the area for Malic. If Harou is unable to see well enough to cast it directly over a ghoul on Malic's level, he will get as close as possible and then begin burning next roung. 3 rounds total, 2d6 per target, DC 17 Ref save. Please let me know if this needs adjusting. |
| #18kneyejailbJul 31, 2007 9:00:22 | Show I'll try to explain the situation again. Basically there are four levels. The top of the pit, where the majority of the party is. The next level is where the ladders led too, and where the ghouls came from. It consisted of four large rooms carved out of the side of the pit walls. Another set of ladders went down from each of those rooms to the third level. Theses are much smaller. The ladders continue down to the bottom where Malic currently is. There are three tunnels leading off from there. As far as Harou's spell goes, he... well in preview I see he answered it himself. |
| #19malic_jannisstaire_dupJul 31, 2007 9:17:49 | Uttering a soft hiss as the sphere of fire bursts into being illuminating Malic's situation the half-elf frowns. Drawing his great sword Malic drives the blade towards the skull of one of the prone ghouls. ooc If he can Malic will Do a full attack on the closest ghoul with a full power attack, if he kills teh ghoul he will cleave. +4 (2d6+6/19-20, slashing). |
| #20thorik_whitestoneJul 31, 2007 10:16:25 | Watching Savar drag dead bodies around causes him to look at the half-orc with a bewildered glare. Not sure what to make of it he decides to change his tactics. .oO (Has the heat affected him?) He attacks the nearest ghoul with his trusty axe. ooc Full attack. +4 d6+2 x3 |
| #21savarJul 31, 2007 15:18:43 | OoC I considered trying to bull rush the ghouls when they hit the top, but I have a feeling that the fall might not kill them. I doubt that Malic would like to face even more of them at the moment :P . |
| #22kneyejailbAug 01, 2007 1:17:10 | Thorik sinks his axe into the shoulder of the first ghoul to make it to the top of the ladder. It hisses and keeps coming. Harous spell catches one of the ghouls a flame. It continues standing up, but very slowly. The smell of charred flesh engulfs Malic as he approaches the ghouls and slices through the neck of one of the ghouls before it can get to it's feet. His swing carries past that ghoul and nearly removes the head of the one next to it. It stops moving. Savar pushes past Thorik and splits the skull of the ghoul at the top of the ladder. It's body falls to the floor of the pit. The four remaing ghouls at the bottom of the pit get to their feet and try to surround Malic. He is able to fight off their attacks. The two ghouls still climbing the ladder to the surface continue upwards. One getting to the top, only to be met with Savars glaive. It's body joins the others in a heap at the bottom of the pit. The ghouls still in their rooms start climbing down the ladders towards the commotion below. Show Thorik 26/26 Pawl 10/11 Harou 21/23 Malic 11/ 30 plus 5 non lethal Savar 27/27 plus 5 non lethal Ghouls Four ghouls are surrounding Malic. One of which is very badly burnt. One more ghoul is climbing towards the top. There are now six ghouls climbing down towards Malic. The first three of those should reach the bottom in three rounds. |
| #23harou_dupAug 01, 2007 6:31:51 | Silently Harou directs the sphere to engulf another ghoul now attacking Malic. He casts the spell again centering on the ghoul at the bottom of the ladder that lower ghouls are climbing down on. Like a conductor of a fiery orchestra he begins moving his arms this way and that burning ghouls as he goes. OoC Casts another flaming sphere so that it forms in a square with a ghoul. |
| #24savarAug 01, 2007 6:47:17 | Savar smiles in satisfaction as he carves up two enemies. "Looks like we're going down," he says to Thorik. "I hope there's some fun left by the time we get there." He waits and swings at the remaining ghoul as soon as it reaches the top. If it dies, then he climbs onto the ladder and slides down to the next level and keeps moving to the bottom as quickly as possible until he runs out of movement. "Hey!" he shouts to the ghouls as he moves. "One half-elf won't be enough for you all! Come on up and try to take me on!" Hopefully the attempt will draw a few of them away from Malic, but the half-orc doubts it. Still, it's worth a try. OoC Same attack as before. +6 1d10+12. If the ghoul dies, then using all available moves to go as far and as fast as possible to the bottom of the pit. I don't really care if I end the round standing on a ladder (unless the ghouls below can reach me from that point). |
| #25malic_jannisstaire_dupAug 01, 2007 8:55:41 | The smoke stings Malic's eyes and teh smell of burning flesh fills his nostrils. Wincing with each swing Malic swings the heavy blade at the first burning ghoul. Realising that by now anything left inside the hole is most likely focusing on him the half-elf proceeds with more caution focusing on deflecting his opponets blows away while he attacks. ooc Combat Expertise for 3, cleave into the next burning ghoul if able. +4 (2d6+4/19-20, slashing) AC 18 |
| #26thorik_whitestoneAug 01, 2007 9:49:55 | Thorik watches the remaining ghoul climb and figures Savar is capable enough to deal with him. He waits until Savar has made his strike and then spins around to grab the crossbow Harou is not using. "Mind if I use this...good!" he says as he picks up the weapon and begins loading it. ooc Delay action. Let Savar attack again, and then Thorik is going for that crossbow. |
| #27kneyejailbAug 01, 2007 11:12:45 | Harou moves his flaming sphere towards another ghoul. It goes up in flames. Then falls down into the muck and stops moving. Harou casts another at the ghouls one the ladders, engulfing the fastest of the ghouls clamboring done them in flames. It does not stop it, but it does look impressve. Malic slices across the chest of the ghoul that Harou burned earlier, he cleaves through it and sinks his blade into the ghoul standing next to it. The thing staggers but stays on it's feet. Savar knocks bodyparts and the ghoul they at one point belonged to off the ladder, and then storms down it. He half climbs, half slides down it to the room the ghouls came up from. Thorik moves and grabs Harous crossbow and starts loading. Malic finds two ghouls pressing into him with tooth and nail. He blocks most of their attempts, but a claw gets past his defenses. He shakes off the numbness that had started spreading through his limbs. Savar has a few moments to survey his suroundings as he moves towards the next ladder. It extends back nto the rock around forty feet, and is mostly empty except for a feeding trough, and a few piles of filthy bedding. There are 2 ghouls around Malic, one of which he has injured. There are now six ghouls climbing down towards Malic. The first three of those should reach the bottom in two rounds. One of those is severly burned. |
| #28savarAug 01, 2007 11:20:02 | Three kills under his belt already, Savar runs to the next ladder and starts down. "Hold on, Malic! Help is on the way!" OoC Double move, trying to get to the bottom of the pit as quickly as possible. If any of the ghouls turn and attack him, then he'll stand and fight instead. |

| #32kneyejailbAug 01, 2007 12:35:59 | Thorik fires down at the burning ghoul. His bolt catches it, and it falls from the ladder and does not appear to get back up. Harou moves his two spheres with great results. The lower sphere torches one of the ghouls on Malic to a crisp. It falls. The sphere starts to sputte out however. The other sets another one of the ghouls going down the ladder ablaze, but not bad enough to stop it. Malic makes short work of the last Ghoul surrounding him, and has time to catch his breath before the next wave hits him. Savar hurries down the second ladder, moving passed the rooms on the way down in his hurry to get to Malics aid. The ghouls on the ladders keep hewading towards the Malic. Show Thorik 26/26 Pawl 10/11 Harou 21/23 Malic 10/ 30 plus 7 non lethal Savar 27/27 plus 5 non lethal Ghouls Savar has made it to the bottom. As has two of the ghouls. Bith are opposite each other. And thirty feet away from Malic at the center of the pit. There are now three ghouls climbing down towards Malic. They should reach the bottom in one, two and then three rounds. One of those is severly burned. The level the ghouls started on was less then thirty feet from Thorik, the levels they are one now is more. |
| #33harou_dupAug 01, 2007 12:54:05 | Harou remains silent as his first sphere sputters out. He sends the second one towards the next non burned ghoul on the ladder, and then moves to descend down the upper ladder himself. "My spells are spent. We should back them up." he says to Thorik as he climbs down the ladder. |
| #34thorik_whitestoneAug 01, 2007 13:19:31 | "Be right with ye." he says as he reloads and fires again. He aims again for a creature ablaze. After the shot has been taken, he puts the crossbow over his shoulder, and starts down the ladder. ooc light crossbow +5 d8 x? |

It attacks back, but Malic is able to block it's wild lunges. Savar charges at the ghoul, the muck slows him and makes his balance slightly off. His glaive misses. | #61savarAug 02, 2007 12:01:40 | Savar lays motionless, inwardly groaning. He'd have to remember that the little bastards could freeze him up like that. The sound of drums doesn't make the situation any better, and he's still worried and vulnerable when Malic dispatches the last ghoul. He remembers that orcs and goblins often marched and fought to the beat of drums, and while he relishes the thought of battle, he would rather be able to stand when it happens. If no new enemies present themselves, then once the paralization wears off Savar will pick up his glaive and head up the ladder with the others. OoC Are we still in combat? Also (not that Savar would be able to know), the drums that Thorik found are playing themselves, right? Or is the sound coming from another set? |
| #62kneyejailbAug 02, 2007 12:21:19 | After a few more seconds, the drumming stops. Show Combat is over for a few seconds at least. Thorik didn't see anyone playing the drums. But those were the only drums he saw. |
| #63harou_dupAug 02, 2007 12:34:11 | Harou covers the area while the others join him. "We are at a crossroads. Either we stand and fight, assuming that enemies are coming. Or we Flee with nothing to show for our troubles... That is unless we should continue? Thorik, what did you see in the room?" |
| #64malic_jannisstaire_dupAug 02, 2007 12:35:46 | Malic frowns and follows Savar and Thorik up the ladder once Savar is able to move. "I think it is time we left this perverse plane," Malic comments as he reaches the level where Harou is, "I would rather have us all aliver with nothing to show than all of us dead." |
| #65thorik_whitestoneAug 02, 2007 14:25:13 | Thorik searches for his hammers, and soon finds the two weapons. He sheathes them again in their proper places and climbs the ladder behind the half-orc. "Disgusting, vile creations I can only describe as furniture. A tapestry of human flesh was the most distrubing." he replies to Harou. "Or was it the table made of skulls? Either way I saw some drums also made of flesh, that apparently started playing themselves. Could'a just been to warn them ghouls, but I doubt it considerin' they were below 'em." "I hate to say it, but I'm forced to agree with ya, Malic. You're in no condition to go deeper, we're out of healin', and you gotta be runnin' short on magiks." he says pointing to Harou. He walks over to the edge adn peers down again. "I could check the rooms below again...see if I missed somethin', but I'd sure hate fer them drums t'start beatin' again." |
| #66savarAug 02, 2007 14:33:39 | "Could you take a look at the drums?" Savar asks Harou. "Maybe they were just an alarm system. And before we go running back across the plains, which were even more dangerous than the pit, I say we take a look down the tunnels. Nothing came running, even with all our shouts and battle-noises, so there probably isn't some sort of horrible creature waiting just inside for us. It can't hurt to walk in a few steps. At this point our greatest worry should probably be traps." As he talks he rubs the ghoulish wounds to take out some of the numbness. Then he makes five satisfied marks on the head of his glaive. |
| #67harou_dupAug 02, 2007 14:47:59 | Harou stops and thinks. "Very well, we need rest again, whether or not Savar will admit it. All of you go to the top. I will peek at the drums, and if trouble appears, you can haul me up double quick. There is the rope." he points. "Between the three of you, it shouldn't be a problem. Objections? If we are going to rest anyway, why not? I do not wish to leave either way, and perhaps a peak inside will lend us a bit of foresight as to what is to come tomorrow." |
| #68savarAug 02, 2007 15:19:38 | "I never said we didn't need rest," the half-orc retorts angrily. "And if we're going to catch some sleep, it might be better to use one of these rooms. We know the original owners won't be coming back, and we'll have more cover than that little wall can provide. And if we stay on the top level, we can get up out of the pit if anything comes from the tunnels looking for a snack during the night." He scratches his head. "Or during the day, whatever time it is here." |
| #69harou_dupAug 02, 2007 15:46:07 | Harou stares at Savar and then looks away. "Then stay here." He makes his way down the ladder and looks into the room with the drums, trying to figure the place out. OoC Knowledge Planes, Arcana, anything else? +10 |

He turns his head towards his shoulder. "Course that could be me, i suppose." ooc I dont think Kneye actually said it smelled down here, but you know it has too with all this death. |
| #71kneyejailbAug 02, 2007 16:24:00 | Harou climbs down the ladder to the room and steps in. The drumming begin again. Like Thorik did, he can plainly see the tapestry of human flesh along one wall. Harou however "manages" to get a closer look. Going by the number of strecthed faces along the borders of it, half a dozen or more men gave the skins of their backs for this decoration. Likewise the wicker-like cage made of human rib-bones on the other wall. Plates and cups also made of bone hang inside the cages on finger-bones screwed into the wall. Harou is unable to make sense of the markings on the skull table. It appears to be some sort of laungage, but not one he is familiar with. The drums at the far end of the room are also made of human parts. and they do appear to be playing themselves. All in all this is the type of room creatures like those corpses on the surface would find pleasant and relaxing. |
| #72harou_dupAug 02, 2007 16:58:53 | Harou takes in the scene slowly and steps away once he is sure there is nothing more to see. Ooc Is this room a dead end? Decipher Script +10 just in case on the markings. Are there other rooms at the bottom of the pit? |
| #73savarAug 02, 2007 22:47:46 | "Pinch your nose shut," Savar suggests to Thorik. "I'd rather deal with a little smell than have to fend off giant beetles for about ten hours." He grins mischeviously. "Then again, I'm surprised any smell bothers you. I thought you'd have worked up a natural immunity by now, your bathing habits considered." |
| #74kneyejailbAug 03, 2007 2:18:30 | The room does not appear to have any other way out then the one Harou came in. Harou tries to figure out what the markings mean. As far as he can tell it has something to do with maiming and killing. There are a few "illustrations" to support that interpratation. As he studies those, the drumming increases in volume and tempo. Show There were three tunnels leading from the bottom of the pit. And three more rooms on the level this room is at. And three more rooms on the level the ghouls started in, though those appeared to be similar to the one the group passed through on the way down. (Other them Malic, he took the short-cut.) |
| #75savarAug 03, 2007 7:49:19 | While he waits on Harou, Savar retrieves his crossbow and reloads it before clipping it back to his belt. Mostly out of boredom, he then starts to wander around and take a look at the other rooms on Harou's level to see if they hold anything interesting. He takes a look over his shoulder at Thorik and Malic. "Coming? If we're staying the night, I'd like to find anything dangerous close by before it finds me. Besides; if we get enough instruments, we can start a band." |
| #76kneyejailbAug 03, 2007 8:03:36 | Show In order o check out the other rooms, you will have to go down to the bottom of the pit, and then up one of the ladders that lead to them. |
| #77harou_dupAug 03, 2007 8:07:21 | Harou rushes out of the room, and peers into one of the others on this level to see if they are similar. |
| #78savarAug 03, 2007 8:21:34 | Savar sighs and twirls his glaive. "Alright, let's go save the wizard," he mumbles to himself, probably unable to be heard over the drums. He descends the ladder as quickly as he can to get out of the others' way and takes another ladder from the bottom level to get to the area where Harou and the drums are. Assuming, of course, that nothing meets him along the way that needs killing. If a horde of monsters spills out of the tunnels at the bottom of the pit, he stays there. |
| #79malic_jannisstaire_dupAug 03, 2007 9:33:43 | Ignoring Savar and Thorik's panderings Malic sheaths his greatsword and begins a slow climb back up the ladder. Mumbling ti himself as he does, "Better go up top and see if there's any trouble up there..." |
| #80thorik_whitestoneAug 03, 2007 11:15:55 | "...says the man that's part orc." he replies to Savar's comments about bathing. Watching Savar go down, and Malic go up. Thorik shruggs his shoulders and sits on the edge of teh level he is on. He removes his flask and takes a couple pulls before replacing it. .oO (To hell with them all.) "Can ye shut them drums off?" he calls down to Harou. ooc Not real sure what is going on. So Thorik is taking a coffee (whiskey) break. |
| #81kneyejailbAug 03, 2007 14:02:19 | Harou starts down the ladder to get to the pit floor so he can go up one of the other ladders to investigate another room. He meets Savar coming to get him at the bottom of it. Moving to the next ladder, and the next room, Harou is nudged into the room by a very impatient half-orc. Like the other room there are no other visable exits from this room. it's not as unpleasant as the last one. At least not in the stomache turning sense. The back wall of the room has a full bookcase lined up against it. Eight books total. Eight very large books. the splines of the book are six feet tall and a foot thick, and using the depth of the bookcase as a guide probably four foot wide. There is nothing else in the room. Malic makes it to the top and notes that nothing on the surface seems to have changed. |
| #82malic_jannisstaire_dupAug 03, 2007 14:05:56 | Malic moves a few feet away from the edge of the pit and let's his left arm hang painfully at his side. The half-elf stands up on tip toes and puts a hand above his eyes and scans teh horizon for signs of anything approaching. |
| #83harou_dupAug 03, 2007 14:11:45 | "Alright Savar, quickly let's have a look at the other one and see what is there. I may wish to revisit this one though." With the halforc in tow, a look at the third room is next. Show Knowledge planes on all these rooms in turn +10 |

Knowing this place, one of the books might try to eat you." He means it as a joke, but after speaking he seems to consider that he might be right. Frowning lightly he follows Harou to the next room. OoC Are the drums still beating? Have they lessened at all? |
| #85kneyejailbAug 03, 2007 15:12:39 | The drums slow down and stop as the third of four rooms on this level is investigated. Savar is the first to smell it. but Harou picks up the scent of something very acidic as they climb the ladder. Inside this room is a pool of foul smelling red ooze. It fills most of the room. A person might be able to skirt around it by clinging against the wall, but there doesn't seem to be much point in doing that. There does not appear to be any other exits or anything else besides the ooze in the room. |
| #86harou_dupAug 03, 2007 15:33:50 | Harou curls his nose. "Let's have a look at the last room and then leave. I need to think on all of what we've seen today and Malic needs rest." And he does just that. Show Ooc=Knowledge Planes +10 |
| #87savarAug 03, 2007 19:19:58 | Savar eyes the pool and shakes his head. This place just keeps getting more and more bizarre... He climbs down and back up to the last room with Harou, hoping that something more interesting for him will be in the last room. The books were a curiosity, but nothing so far has really peaked his interest. |
| #88kneyejailbAug 06, 2007 9:44:13 | The fourth room is decorated with a giant, deformed skull twice the size of a human, with an unnaturally wide jaw, hundreds of daggerlike teeth, and what appear to be claws where one might find ears on a person. It is surrounded by what Harou recognizes as the decomposing remains of five bearded devils and two erinyes. |
| #89savarAug 06, 2007 10:23:27 | Savar groans in disappointment. "Well, maybe there's some treasure down through the tunnels. Are you going to take another look at those books, or are we done for the day?" |
| #90harou_dupAug 06, 2007 10:37:27 | "I think we'd better rest. Malic needs it, and I have no idea what to make of this place, and I would like to sleep on it." Harou exits and makes his way to the top. "Also, we should not rest in the pit and risk being trapped below. Inside the wall is fine enough." He sits and reads one of the books from the floating house and mulls over all he's seen, quietly talking with Pawl in dwarven. Ooc For the time being Knowledge Planes +10, +2 assist from Pawl or his check at +4 I believe. |
| #91kneyejailbAug 06, 2007 11:13:51 | Harou has no doubt that this place is a hell dimension. The bodies of devils laying about should leave little question about that. | #92harou_dupAug 06, 2007 12:33:43 | Once they actually settle down, Harou will take last watch. Until then he will attempt to figure out each room's purpose in turn, and what the pit might actually be if nothing more than a devil home. "This plane is hellish... I would not be surprised if we are attacked at random by some devilish creatures. If our wizard is here, pity her, she will no doubt have been tormented horribly.[/i] Ooc Room purpose or items in the room, info about them. Until we are rested Harou will use the brains is all. |

Tearing off a piece of his ragged cloak Malic uses it to polish his sword to pass the time. Occasionally Malic rises to scan about the area suspiciouslly. |
| #94savarAug 06, 2007 17:24:52 | Savar shrugs and follows the wizard up to the top level. Still feeling that it's probably a mistake to be so exposed, especially in a plane where devils live, he takes second watch. If it goes as planned, he spends the time pacing around the perimeter of the wall, looking out over the ash plane while spinning his glaive and mumbling to himself in orcish. [orc]"...Wasn't what I signed on for, no..." "...And not a single copper piece, just all those damned bodies and beetles and..." "Oh, we'll get trapped in the pit, we've got to rest outside, that's a great idea..."[/orc] |
| #95thorik_whitestoneAug 06, 2007 18:45:11 | When Thorik sees Harou and Savar climb up the ladders, he merely shrugs to himself, and stands. .oO (Must nadda found much..) He climbs the ladder after the other two. He sits and listens to the brief chatter. "I don't care what watch I take. Just wake me when it's time." he says as he shuffles through his things. He brings out the lock that he practices with and starts to fiddle with it. He locks and unlocks it many times. Sometimes with his eyes closed, sometimes with one hand, but most times just normally. He does this for a long while, before closing his eyes. ooc Sorry I wasnt around today. |
| #96kneyejailbAug 07, 2007 11:47:59 | Harou ponders the purpose of the rooms below. The first seems easy enough. A devilish dinning room, though the nature of the self playing drums does add some mystery to it. Invisable servants perhaps, or maybe just a simple spell? It will take closer investigation to figure that out. The library room likewise seems pretty straight forward, and will also warrant closer inspection. The book are sized for a much larger then human sized creature, perhaps they belonged to the pit fiend whose corpse sits in the background. Definetly one of the more intelligent of the devil species. The room full of ooze is a mystery to the wizard. A sort of torture chamber, or maybe a bath house. Again, it will take more then the quick examination that Savar and Harou made to get a solid answer. The last room may have been an alter room. The huge skull could have been that of an archdevil or some thing of that ilk. Which one, if that is the case is not familiar to Harou. But the bodies laid before it were most likely sacrifices, or killed there praying for help against whatever killed everything else in this place. |

| #105kneyejailbAug 08, 2007 14:01:21 | Savar sees no sign of movement below. That last ghoul could have come from one of the tunnels at the bottom. "We can't carry Malic back across the ash plane and fight at the same time, and we can't clear out those tunnels with him in this kind of shape. Not to mention that we'd have to lower him down by rope if we were going to look for healing potions or a way out down there." Bitter and angry, the half-orc stomps back to the wall and takes a long look over the plains while he thinks. "I guess it's my watch now," he grumbles. The whole affair seems to have set his nerves on edge. "Unless one of you knows anything about healing, you should probably get some sleep. Keep your weapons close; it's going to be a long night." |
| #107thorik_whitestoneAug 08, 2007 17:38:08 | Thorik cautiously makes his way to his feet again. He feels a bit lightheaded but soon shakes the feeling. "Nasty bite that thing has." he comments to himself. Seeing Malic still on the ground he makes his way over to the half-elf and kneels down next to him. He feels his neck for the life-beat and finds it, but it is considerably weak. "Just unconsious." he says to the others. "Could be from loss of blood. I'm no healing man, so I can't be sure. But this bite looks nasty. Think whiskey would help fend off infection?" He puts his own pack under Malic's head and moves the warriors weapons to the side. "I know we're not exactly trained for this sorta thing, but we should be tryin' somethin'!" |
| #108savarAug 09, 2007 19:42:06 | "I think all we can do now is try to find someplace to rest that we can defend and let him rest. If we go poking and prodding him we're likely to make matters worse." Savar curses in orcish. "Next time we're bringing a healer!" He paces back and forth uselessly, looking out over the desert of ash. "We can't go back across the plains," he mumbles to himself. "We can't tackle the tunnels in this condition. Resting doesn't appear to be safe. What if we break down that ladder? We can do down by rope, and that would keep anything else from coming up at us from the pit. Then we'd only have to deal with enemies coming over the walls." |
| #109harou_dupAug 10, 2007 15:13:16 | "Savar you need a lesson in teamwork..." the mage comments as the halforc crushes the ghoul. He kneels near Malic to have a look at his wounds. "I know as much about healing as Thorik likely does about perfume.." He sits near Malic, and faces the pit. "Yes, all we can do is rest now and tend to our sick comrade. It will be a day or two before he regains the strength needed for battle or laborious travel." The wizard eventually tries to rest. Ooc Oh, kneyejailb, since we woke up and went to the pit and have started resting within a couple hours, or at least I would think, we should all have plenty of time to rest, even watch in pairs if need be. Just something to keep in mind. Sorry for my absence, I should be around more in the week to come, just at different times than we are used to. |
| #110savarAug 10, 2007 22:48:07 | Savar almost snarls at the wizard's comment. "Teamwork? This coming from the man who treats his companions like servants? Lessons from the one who gives commands rather than information? Tell me, when was the last time you even bothered to tell us why we were supposed to do something, instead of just ordering us around? Of course, we're probably too stupid to understand all those wonderful ideas bouncing around in your head, so it's likely for the best." He stands up and sweeps his gaze across the other side of the ash plane to scan for enemies. "And if you're referring to me not 'drawing that thing away,' I doubt that it would have ran at me when there were two helpless bodies to feast on. Use that magnificent mind of yours for a second and think on this: if you had the choice of finishing off a pair of enemies that couldn't move or rushing at a warrior and a wizard by yourself, which would you pick? Or would you run away and try to come back with friends later, if you had the chance?" He folds his arms in defiance. "But if you really want me to appologise for killing the beast before it could rip out someone's throat, then I will do so. I'm sorry. Next time I will follow your orders and give it a chance to do even more damage. But if you're going to tell me how to fight, then the rest of us get to tell you when and how to use your magic. True, we don't know a damn thing about spells, but fair is fair." Furious, the half-orc marches away and starts looking through his pack for anything he could use to bandage Malic's wounds, even though he knows he won't find anything. |
| #111harou_dupAug 11, 2007 7:45:04 | Harou watches as Savar lays into him. He casually draws his pipe, and light it. As the halforc walks away, he comments under his breath, more to Pawl. "Next time I will say please..." |
| #112thorik_whitestoneAug 12, 2007 15:59:33 | Thorik's head jerks around at Harou's comment concerning the dwarves hygene. He squints and snarls his lip at the magician. .oO (That's the second damned comment about the way I smell. Doubt I smell any better than the rest of them, but still. Not use to the fragrance a la Thorik I suppose.) His snarl soon turns to a slight grin, as he forgets what he was thinking about. He takes his flask from its place and takes a small sip. That will be his last, fore this heat makes his drink unbearable. When Harou comments about teamwork he simply rolls his eyes, because he knows the argument will soon be on. When the half-orc retorts, Thorik at first grins at his correct assumption. The grin is replaced with raised eyebrows, half cocked glances, and shifty eyes between the two of them. He then reaches for his flask again, thinking the heat isnt nearly as bad as he had previously thought. After the next drink he shrugs his shoulders, and remembers he just doesnt care. .oO (I could kill them both, and return to the guild. No one would ever know. The trip back would be a bit hard by meself. But would enjoy the silence. Could get a bath. Two baths!) |

Breathing heavily the half-elf's body shakes relentlesly as he looks at his surroundings. .oO(Father what have I gotten myself into...) Reaching to his side Malic grips the handle of his greatsword tightly, as if it were a security blanket. |
| #115savarAug 13, 2007 13:10:24 | "You live," Savar says dully when Malic awakes. "Now that we've had a bit of sleep, I guess it's time to decide on our next move. Do we turn around and run back home and hope we don't get jumped along the way, or take a look down those tunnels? We can't sit up here forever." |
| #116thorik_whitestoneAug 14, 2007 17:52:51 | Thorik looks at Savar and shakes his head. He squats down to Malic and puts a hand on his shoulder. "Easy now. Yer safe, but still need some rest. We'll keep a watch over ya." He stands and answers the over-sized warrior. "Yer right. We can't stay up here forever. But we also can't be expecting to push Malic along, in his condition." he says as he motions towards the barely consious half-elf. "Now I'm not sayin' I want t'turn tail and run back...but I am sayin' he needs to get his strength back before we do anythin'." He turns and looks out over the ash covered landscape. "And even in this climate, a hot meal'd do us all some good." |
| #117savarAug 14, 2007 21:26:56 | "I don't want to push him unnecessarily either," Savar answers slowly. "But I'm worried that if we delay too long then we'll have to fend off more enemies that will continue to drain what little strength we have left. I doubt that we killed all the skeletons and beetles on the ash plane, and there could be more ghouls in the tunnels that might wander out here and spot us. That's not even considering whatever killed all the devils here. For the moment we can all stand on our own two feet, and I think it would be a mistake to wait around too long." |
| #118thorik_whitestoneAug 14, 2007 23:26:46 | Thorik stands there quietly while he wipes the sweat from his brow. With his eyes shut he messages his forehead, and tries to relieve the dull pain that wont seem to ease. "I think crossing the plain again is a mistake. We're not even sure we can reach our world from there anyway. Hell, I'm not even sure which way we came from." he says as he looks around the surrounding landscape again. "I say we wait til Malic regains some strength... at least until he thinks he can swing that sword again. And even then, he'll need to stay near, in case he needs'ta retreat behind the line." |
| #119savarAug 15, 2007 9:27:58 | "I will agree that the plain is risky..." Savar mumbles. "Those skeletons hurt us more than the ghouls did. But unless there's a way out through the tunnels, we may have to risk it. I suppose that after a meal we can think on it more." The half-orc opens his pack and takes out some rations, passing them around to anyone who wants them. Then, glaive across his knees, he sits with his back to the wall and munches on a piece of bread in silence. This is looking dangerous. I wonder if the next team that the Silver Sword sends will be looking for us... |
| #120harou_dupAug 15, 2007 20:39:10 | "Rest Malic.." He says as the halfelf wakes. Letting Savar and Thorik banter back and forth, the wizard considers. "Thorik is right about the way we came.. it is just as likely a closer less perilous exits lies in the ghoulish tunnels below. I say we rest here until Malic regains more of his strength, and keep a double watch posted. That will allow us plenty of time to rest each of us, and lower the chance of being surprised again. After that time, we can explore the passages below. Your thoughts? These are just my suggestions, not orders" |
| #121malic_jannisstaire_dupAug 15, 2007 20:47:46 | "If we continue to argue the state I am in will be the least of this groups worries." With a cough Malic spits some blood up, wiping it away with his bare hand but he does not lay back down. With a grimace Malic holds himself up with a shaky arm. "I have been the most vocal about turning back, but now I think it would be best to do as Harou says and press on. I am afraid I won't be able to continue on for at least another few days though." |
| #122thorik_whitestoneAug 15, 2007 22:32:46 | Thorik raises an eyebrow at Malic's comment. .oO (Musta heard while he wuz under. UH! Saw some blood flyin' there. Tough bastard to have part elf in him.) He takes whatever food Savar offers and nods his head in appreciation. "Then we check the tunnels first fer'an exit! If it gets t'be too trecherous, we kin turn back, and come topside again." He shoves a mouthful of food into his maw, and starts chopping heavily. He is nowhere near finished chewing when he continues. "Ash long ash we kin outrun Malic, we shouldsh be fine! HA! HAH!" |
| #123savarAug 18, 2007 7:41:32 | Savar grins at Thorik's joke. "If I outrun anybody, it'll be you. I doubt that even the monsters in this hell would enjoy eating dwarf, so they'd likely let you go anyway." He finishes off his light meal. "Do we even have enough supplies for an extended stay? True, we can always go hungry for a few days if we need to, but running out of water in this place could be disasterous. I'm thinking that there might be a reason why everything we've only come across undead creatures so far." |
| #124malic_jannisstaire_dupAug 20, 2007 10:22:59 | Malic flops back onto teh ground and looks up at the sky, "If we leave now we may have to rest out in the middle of no where. It would be better off to fully rest here and than go that way we'll be able to go longer..." "Ideally," Malic adds after a brief pause. |
| #125thorik_whitestoneAug 20, 2007 16:13:38 | "Hmmm." he responds to Savar as he shoves another bite in his mouth. .oO (Should make ya eat me hammer!) He nods at Malic's comment as he speaks. "Even with the big pit fulla undead critters, I think we're in the safest place we can be now. But as Harou said, rest when ye can, so the others can watch yer back." | #130thorik_whitestoneAug 27, 2007 23:26:38 | Thorik nods his head in agreement as he rumages through his pack. "Fine by me." He finds his 'practice' lock and begins fiddling with it. After a time, he grows tired of this, and puts it away. He stands and stretches. After walking a short distance from the group, he goes to the ground and does numerous push-ups followed immediately by sit-ups. When he finishes his last one, he rolls backwards into a handstand. He stays like this for a couple minutes before he removes his left hand from the ground and balances on only his right. He quickly replaces it and does the same with his right hand. After going back to both hands he starts to walk around on them. He tucks his head, rolls foward and leaps, landing into another foward roll that ends with him on his feet again. He casually removes one of his hammers and starts to twirl it in his fingers. He sits but continues to twirl his hammer, sometimes throwing it into the air and catching it again. After another short time he walks back over to the group, and tries to get some rest. |

It goes on for a few hundred feet, opening into a large room lined with bunks and empty racks against the wall. A large chest sits in the middle of the room, the floor around it has ruins and diagrams drawn in a dark material that Savar can tell is likely dried blood. |
| #139savarAug 31, 2007 15:38:47 | Savar eyes down the chest, but makes no move towards it. "Knowing this place, it's probably going to try to jump up and eat us before we can open it," he grumbles. "I guess it's the dwarf's turn. I'd like to keep both my hands rather than lose them to some trap." Playing with his glaive, he looks around the rest of the room and counts the bunks, looks at the size of them, checks for signs of recent use (such as the absence of dust) and generally tries to figure out how many more ghouls they may have to deal with. |

Against the left and right walls are rows of humoniod sized bunks. Six rows head to toe, and five high on both sides of the room. The wall oppisite the entrance has five larger beds against it. The wall the entrance is in has two very large beds flanking the entrance tunnels. None of the beds appears to have seen use recently. The small bunks have no matresses, and no blankets. The five larger ones have wool blankets and some padding on them. The two largest beds have silk sheets and blankets. All the beds are made. They look comfortable. Thorik studies the chest area carefully, but finds nothing that looks dangerous. Once given the signal, Harou moves in to study the writings. It takes some time, but he is able to make out a few of the runes and symbols. "Transformation", "Power", "Wealth", "Sacrifice", and "Death". What the context and meaning is eludes the wizard. |
| #144savarSep 05, 2007 14:22:24 | OoC By 'large' do you mean that those 2 beds are fit for giants? Or merely king-sized? |

But he does have a nagging feeling that the words on the ground, and the "treasure" might somehow be related. |
| #151harou_dupSep 11, 2007 14:19:44 | The wizard frowns and picks up an item or two. He shakes his head and keeps a couple of different bits. "Here lies a puzzle. I think, given what information I have here, that these materials are used to make something, or perhaps, used to attempt to make something. For example, turning lead, into gold. What their purpose here is a mystery, perhaps the stones are made with such items. I think death is involved as well. These are all guesses, and hardly educated." |

| #172harou_dupSep 20, 2007 6:54:55 | He cocks and eyebrow at the dwarf and frowns. "I think you should look at the chest for either..." |
| #173thorik_whitestoneSep 23, 2007 18:29:44 | ooc I didnt know if I should post that I was gonna check the chest as well since I said I was doing the room. I will go ahead and post for it as well, just in case. If mistake, please forgive. |
| #174kneyejailbSep 24, 2007 9:03:13 | Thorik carefully searches the chest for traps and doesn't find any. Nor does he find a lock on the chest. Inside it is filled with cheap glass and lead slugs like the last one. These ones are probably not even useful for costume jewelery. Some of it appears to be melted. Harou's studies note that a few of the ruins he identified in the other room have been drawn wrong. They are close enough to see what was intended, but as the wizard knows, close isn't good enough when it comes to manipulating the forces of magic. Show Hold up has been me. Work got too busy to post, and I haven't been home enough to get anything done. |
| #175malic_jannisstaire_dupSep 25, 2007 20:38:23 | Leavign teh others to their musings over teh chest Malic slowly walks around the perimeter of the room stopping every few steps to examine the wall. Taking time to check on behind beside and under teh beds as well. ooc Search +4, taking twenty if possible |
| #176savarSep 30, 2007 11:31:19 | Savar walks around the room swinging his arms from boredom. "Maybe we should give the other rooms another look. Might be something else in that one with all the big books." OoC So all rooms haven't been searched thouroughly, eh? I'm taking that as a hint. I say we send out our trap hound...um, Thorik...and let him give the whole place a full look. It's likely that Harou and I missed something during our previous run-through. There's bound to be something here. |
| #177harou_dupOct 02, 2007 9:26:46 | Studying the runes, Harou nods to Savar and kneels beside them. Rummaging through his things, he produces a piece of chalk. He tries to repair the smeared runes to match those in the other room. ooc Sorry for the delay!! Please apply appropriate skills. |
| #178savarOct 02, 2007 14:25:45 | "Should you be doing that?" Savar asks nervously. The half-orc grips his glaive and looks around. "Do you really want to complete whatever kind of ritual these monsters started?" He takes a few steps away from the wizard and the rune circle, half expecting something horrible to be summoned up at any moment. |
| #179harou_dupOct 02, 2007 17:10:21 | "I know Magic Savar, not traps or secret doors. So, if you wish me doing something else, then help Thorik find that something." He smiles lightly and nods, then goes back to his runing. |
| #180thorik_whitestoneOct 02, 2007 17:53:37 | "I'm sure ya do wizard, but I donna wish to be around when it explodes!" the dwarf huffs. "Course on the other hand, all this junk could be turned inta jewels, and I sure wanna be around fer that!" he says with a new sense of anticipation. He turns his attention to Savar. "We can check the other rooms again, after we see whut happens here. Sure didn't spend alotta time in the torture room. Coulda missed somethin there fer sure." He readies his shield, and grabs a hammer. ooc Whats the dimensions of this room? |
| #181savarOct 02, 2007 18:15:14 | The half-orc doesn't look too happy about the idea of going back to the torture room. Still, he nods reluctantly and stands back, waiting to see if Harou's actions produce any effects. |
| #182kneyejailbOct 08, 2007 8:58:03 | The wizards attempt does not produce a big expolsion as much of the party fears. Nor does it transform the chest full of junk into gold as much of the party hopes. It merely has no effect. A more complete search of the torture chamber yields little more then the first did. Show Sorry about the delay again. Unfortunately I can see more of them coming, so whenever possible try not to put yourselves into positions that require waiting on me. I'm hoping to get you back into the city this week, so you aren't stuck waiting on me. I'm going to hurry you along a bit more if that's allright. |
| #183malic_jannisstaire_dupOct 09, 2007 9:47:30 | ooc That's fine by me kneye! |
| #184thorik_whitestoneOct 09, 2007 12:48:03 | ooc Fine by me too. |
| #185savarOct 09, 2007 14:11:25 | "Maybe they don't have anything that we'd see as treasure," Savar says in a sick tone. "This cheap jewelry might be like gold to those ghouls." He folds his arms. "After we pry up those chests, I say we go back and look in the main rooms again." The half-orc will help lift the treasure chests to let Thorik search under them, and will help shift through the glass beads to try to find any of the stones. |
| #186kneyejailbOct 10, 2007 9:35:31 | Thorik finds nothing under the chest, and nothing of significant value is found in the chest. The search of the mid-level rooms proves slightly better. The room the drumming came from has nothing of immediate value, though the drums might be worth something to the right person. Thorik is the first to notice it, and Harou confirms it. The dozen or so various sized drums are being played by tiny skeletal snakes trapped inside the instruments. Each of the eight giant books in the library will fetch a few hundred gold price as well if they can be carried back. The size of them might present a challenge even for Savar. The room with the giant skull contains several things of note hidden behind the skull. And some of the corpses have a few things under them. Shattered lengths of chain, a masterwork scimitar, five glaives, two wands (fully discharged and non-magical according to Harou), a fur cloak (20 gp value), and an electrum studded broad belt (5 gp value). Under each of the two erinyes is an ordinary coil of rope, a longsword, and a masterwork composite longbow (+5 Str bonus; 900 gp value each). There are also scattered remains of what was once a large mirror in various places around the room. Show The tomes are 6 ft tall and 4 ft wide, with pages of etched lead. Each weigh 800 lbs. The drums have no value unless you can find a buyer, (Role playing oppertunity alert) and will increase the chances of an encounter going back through the ash sea. |
| #187malic_jannisstaire_dupOct 10, 2007 10:14:51 | With a frown Malic takes stock of their findings, "I suppose since we are all already burdened it would be best to take only what we deem necessary." |
| #188savarOct 10, 2007 16:37:59 | Savar happily looks through the treasure, glad that there was something of value after all. He pays particular attention to the glaives, but seems fairly disappointed when they don't look to be of the same quality as the scimitar. "Unless we have a way to quiet those drums down, I don't think we should lug them along. We're weakened already, and that noise would likely draw in every monster around. Unless we can rig up some kind of sled or something, we'll probably have to leave the books too." The half-orc picks up the fur cloak and takes a look at it. He briefly toys with the bow, enjoying the idea that he could use it to its full extent, but his lack of skill with ranged weapons makes him set it back on the pile. OoC There's nothing that I really want to keep out of the loot. Technically that bow would be better than the crossbow I've got now, but for the price it'd probably be better to put it up on the market. I'm a bit interested in the cloak, though, if Kneye could provide some more description on it. Size? Type of fur? It sounds like the kind of garmet that an orcish barbarian might find stylish. Otherwise, there's nothing I'm calling dibs on. |
| #189thorik_whitestoneOct 10, 2007 19:08:56 | "The drums'd be nothing but burdun. And ta hell with those books. Probly couldn't get em outta this pit. We'll take these fancy bow's of course. Both'll bring a good bit, I'm sure. That belt and cloak there's gotta be worth somethin'." He picks up the belt and puts it around his waist. .oO (Notta bad fit. See whut it's worth...) Taking the belt back off and laying it back on the pile, he looks towards the skull. .oO (Did I look this over good enough. Could anythin' be in them eyes?) Thorik gives the skull another look. ooc I'm sure you wouldve included any other finds, but just to make sure I'll look in the eyes...if of course anything could even be in them. Mainly just making sure we dont miss the stones we've been looking for. Search +9 |
| #190malic_jannisstaire_dupOct 12, 2007 8:59:10 | "The three swords may be of some value as well, and they won't be too cumbersome to carry. I'm not too sure the Glaives should be taken that may be too much weight," Malic comments as he picks up and examines the scimitar. The half-elf give sit an experimental swing before putting it back down. "So the bows, the coat, the belt and the swords? Is there anything else you think we shoudl take Harou?" |
| #191kneyejailbOct 12, 2007 8:59:14 | Savar examines the fur coat. It's big enough for him. maybe even slightly too big. He can't identify what kind of animal it is from, but it comes from something large. It doesn't appear to have been stitched together from smaller pelts, but rather all from one animal. There are no gems in the skulls sockets, nor anywhere else that Thorik can find. But that does not mean his search is in vain. Thorik catches his sight of his reflection in one of the broken bits of mirror on the ground next to the skull. He appears in the image, but not in the room he should be standing in. He appears to be standing outdoors somewhere. |
| #192harou_dupOct 13, 2007 8:06:37 | Harou frowns but then shrugs as his experiment fails as expected. He follows the others in their search, and leans against the wall once his skills are less than benificail to the party. "I admit I had hoped to find more myself. This place feels like there is something we are missing." |
| #193savarOct 14, 2007 8:34:59 | "Well, we may have gotten a better haul from the rock house, but at least we found something." Savar tries on the cloak and walks around for a bit, judging the feel of it, before rolling it up carefully and packing it in his backpack to keep it from being damaged on the return trip. He makes a mental note to try to find out what kind of fur it is once they get back to the barracks. |
| #194thorik_whitestoneOct 14, 2007 15:35:08 | Taking a 'double take' after seeing his image, Thorik bends down to get a better view. "Hmm... how strange. Harou, come have a look at this!" He starts gathering more pieces of mirror, and tries to piece them together for a larger viewing area. |
| #195harou_dupOct 15, 2007 6:58:39 | Harou peeks over the dwarf's shoulder as he arranges the pieces of the mirror. His eyebrows raises and then furrow. Stepping back he ponders. "Perhaps this is all an illusion?" Skill Checks Knowledge Arcana, Spell Craft. Will save to disbelieve? |
| #196savarOct 15, 2007 19:29:33 | Savar follows the wizard and looks at the broken shards of the mirror. He scratches his head, puzzled. "If this is all an illusion, it's a good one." An idea comes to him. "Maybe the mirror is showing what the pass itself would look like if we were in it right now, if we hadn't gone plane-hopping. What if we used these shards to look at those chests we found? Maybe they're not really filled with cheap jewelry." OoC Knowledge (arcana) check. I might as well use it, since I've got a few ranks :P . I don't know if you can aid another on knowledge checks, but if possible, I'll do that for Harou. Maybe something that Savar said jogged his memory about what the mirror could be. |
| #197harou_dupOct 15, 2007 21:41:01 | "Brilliant Savar!" the wizard exclaims. "Regardless of the outcome the idea is quite clever.. I wonder if the writing will appear differently, if at all?" |
| #198kneyejailbOct 16, 2007 7:56:28 | As more pieces are joined together, Savar's idea seems to be making more sense. The groups reflection appears to be showing up in what certainly could be what the pass might have looked like before the rip appeared. Harou seems to recall rumours of mirrors that led to other dimensions. Perhaps this one leads back to the one the group is from. As more and more of the shards are placed next to each other, Harou get's more sure of the idea. |
| #199savarOct 16, 2007 8:34:15 | Feeling smug at being right for once, the half-orc tries to help with the pieces. "Can you repair it?" he asks Harou. "Or do you think it'll fix itself, once we get it assembled?" Another idea comes to him. "Hey, if we can use it to get out of here, we can take those drums. We won't have to worry about waking up every ash beetle in existance. I'm sure that the guild could find some use for it, if they could somehow change the conditions for setting it off." |
| #200malic_jannisstaire_dupOct 16, 2007 8:54:56 | Malic approaches behind the others and looks at teh mirror over Thorik's shoulder at the mirror, "Do you think it could work both ways? If so this is probably of greater import than the stones we were sent to find..." |
| #201harou_dupOct 16, 2007 18:02:24 | "I think it may indeed me a portal. That would be news worthy. However, to where it leads I do not know. We might as well place it together though, but I would like to peek at the reflection of other things here. The bodies above could be guildmembers, or the rooms below, much different than we found them. If there is time, and it is safe, we may as well give it a moment." He helps gather pieces, assembling them. |
| #202savarOct 16, 2007 19:06:14 | "Will the mirror fix itself if we put it back together?" Savar asks. "If not, it'll be hard to view the other rooms through it. We'd have to keep reassembling it each time. But if you want to see the reflection of a ghoul, that's easy enough to do." Going on the wizard's idea, Savar goes down the ladder and into the pit to retrieve one of the fallen ghouls that he and Malic killed. He then hauls it back up to the next room with the mirror, using a rope to pull it to the upper level if he can't carry it and climb at the same time. Once that's done, he holds the body so the group can see how it looks in the magical mirror. "Damn, this thing stinks...Good thing I put that cloak away; I'd hate to ruin it before we even get home." |
| #203thorik_whitestoneOct 16, 2007 22:05:49 | "A portal'd be nice." the dwarf comments as he continues putting pieces together. Thorik cringes when Savar returns with the undead fiend. He stops what he is doing and retreats away from the two of them. "The idea 'bout the mirror was good, orc, but bringin the corpse of a reanimated corpse ain't!" He covers his nose, as the half-orc continues his experiment. |
| #204malic_jannisstaire_dupOct 17, 2007 9:18:31 | Malic wrinkles his nose at the smell, teh half-elf takes a few steps back, keeping a mild distanmce from Savar and his corpse, "Although I appreaciate your enthusiasm on the matter Savar, I don't think that this is the best way to test out the mirror." |
| #205savarOct 17, 2007 9:27:50 | Savar raises his eyebrows. "The wizard wanted to see how one of the monsters looked in it, not me, and it's easier to get a corpse up those ladders than taking the mirror down them. Besides; if his idea doesn't work, and this thing is a portal, we can tie a rope around our rotting friend and toss him through first to test it and see if he's on fire or covered in acid when we pull him back in." |
| #206kneyejailbOct 17, 2007 13:56:07 | It takes some time to put the shards together again, but after an hour it appears to be completed. (Minus a few very small pieces that were to small to recover.) The party can see their (and the ghouls) reflection in it standing in what appears to be a slightly grassy valley. |
| #207savarOct 17, 2007 14:08:40 | "Too bad," Savar says, putting the ghoul's body off to one side. "So how do we use it to get home?" He gently pokes one of the larger pieces of the mirror with the end of his glaive, hoping that it will go through somehow. "Do you know a way to fix it, Harou?" |
| #208malic_jannisstaire_dupOct 17, 2007 15:47:37 | Malic frowns as he crouches down to look at the mirror, "It looks like we may be walking, although the mirror shouldn't be too hard to carry back in pieces." The half elf runs his finger along one of the smaller pieces, "I can't imagine the bad luck someone would receive for breaking a magical window..." |
| #209kneyejailbOct 18, 2007 0:17:53 | The tip if Savar's glaive and Malics finger sink through the surface of the mirror. |
| #210savarOct 18, 2007 5:42:28 | "At last," the half-orc sighs. "A break. So; since we don't have to trek back across that accursed sea of ash, how does everyone feel about taking the drums back to the guild? Once we're in our own world, assuming that what's on the other side is our world, we shouldn't have to worry about as many enemies. I think that a magical alarm system might be useful for the Silver Sword, if they can figure out how to avoid setting it off themselves." |
| #211shadow264Oct 18, 2007 9:08:54 | ... |
| #212malic_jannisstaire_dupOct 18, 2007 9:09:59 | "If we go through there is no guarantee that we can take the mirror with us as we leave. As well if it's still in peices there's no guarantee we can use it to travel through until it's repaired." |
| #213harou_dupOct 18, 2007 18:37:20 | "Those drums are far from what I would consider a worth while bounty, but so be it. Malic the mirror seems to be working fine. As to where it leads, there is but one way to find out." Harou ponders the mirror a moment and frowns. "It is a riddle I am too dense to work, or so simple it requires no thought at all. I lack the wisdom to judge it properly I suppose. If we now stand in a grassy valley, where will it show us once we journey through? Who is first?" He calls Pawl to his shoulder and waits for volunteers. ooc Knowledge planes on the other side of the mirror/portals |
| #214savarOct 18, 2007 19:05:49 | Savar chuckles. "See you on the other side. Even if the mirror doesn't lead to home, no place can be worse than this hell. Let's grab the loot and get out of here." He loads up as much of the treasure into his pack as he can, unless someone else wants to carry part/all of it. Once getting the drums, wincing at the repetitive tone, the half-orc tries to step through the mirror. |
| #215kneyejailbOct 19, 2007 0:48:49 | Show I need to know what treasure Savar takes with you before I can post the results of his attempt. |
| #216thorik_whitestoneOct 19, 2007 10:21:47 | "I kin take back those silvers, Malic, so you can help carry morra this stuff." the dwarf says as he relieves Malic of his burdun. "Whut're we taken again. The bows a course. That fancy sword'll be worth somethin'. That pelt and belt, i suppose. I'm thinkin' those drums'll be more trouble than anythin'. Might get something for em, but we're loaded down as is." he continues as he makes sure the party isnt forgetting anything. |
| #217malic_jannisstaire_dupOct 19, 2007 11:03:33 | "I am still worried we won't be able to take the mirror with us." Malic comments as he passes Thorik back his silver, and scoops up the two bows. "I beleieve we agreed on the bows, the swords, the fur coat and the belt. Anyuthing else and I worry we will be even more overburdened." |
| #218savarOct 21, 2007 14:24:56 | "Who knows?" Savar says as he helps the others pack up the loot. "Maybe there was a mirror in our plane too, and by fixing this one, it magically reassembled there too. Or, we'll appear out of nowhere and not be able to find our way back to this hell. I do think that it'd be a bad idea to try to carry all the pieces back across the ash plane. As weakened as we are, and out of healing potions, we probably wouldn't last too long against more of those beetles." OoC I've already got a medium load. Want me to be the pack mule? If we're leaving the drums and the glaives, any one of us can easily carry the rest. |
| #219kneyejailbOct 24, 2007 15:29:45 | It dawns on Harou and he points out to the group, that with a more convinent way to get across the ashfield, bringing that books back might be possible. They are certainly one of the more valuable objects here. But extremely heavy. Show The books weigh 800 pounds each, but each one is worth a couple hundred gold easily. |
| #220thorik_whitestoneOct 29, 2007 19:28:54 | "How do ya propose we move em?" Thorik asks Harou after his comments. "Maybe if we made a sled, or somesuch, but even then we'd needa mule ta pull one." Thorik picks up the belt and puts it on for convienience more than a claim. He adjusts his bag of silvers, and grabs up the scimitar and fastens it to his back between himself and his shield. "Could get 'em across and stash it. Come back fer em later when we're better equiped?" ooc Let's get moving! Books or no books... |
| #221shadow264Oct 30, 2007 9:27:18 | Thi wind blows over the ash covered land. |
| #222malic_jannisstaire_dupOct 30, 2007 9:48:06 | Malic frowns, "if we have enough rope we could get them up here, and maybe drag them back to the Guild House. Thorik your idea is sound, although what gaurantee do we have that we'll be able to return to that spot?" Shaking his head, "Let us get the books and transport them through teh portal regardless. We have stood on this wretched plane long enough." |
| #223thorik_whitestoneNov 04, 2007 21:41:32 | "Agreed." he states as he follows behind the half-elf on their way to the room with large books. "At least gettin the books through the mirror'll get 'em a bit closer to where we're goin. Least I hope it will." The dwarf shrugs his shoulders, and enters the room with books. He closes his eyes and shakes his head when he is reminded of the sheer size of the literature. "Why in the Hells would ya make a book so damn large? I know those beds we saw were fer some kinda giant, but... " At this he bends down, grabs a strong hold and heaves, nearly straining his back. "This is obsurd!" The dwarf grabs his back and pops it back into place. "Either we cut the damn pages out, or that wizard better have a spell ta shrink em, cause I ain't rippin meself apart ta get em out." He awaits a response from Malic before doing anything else. |
| #224kneyejailbNov 05, 2007 8:52:20 | Savar finds he can drag two of the books at a time to the ladders, and from there with Malic and Thoriks help and a healthy amount of rope manages to get the books into the mirrir room, and shoved through the mirror to the otherside. They appear to just be sitting on the ground out there. The rest of the group gathers up the last bits of odds and ends they want and then head through as well. Show I'll give a day or two for everyone to post their own going through (ans describe what happens with each one as soon as I notice the post), and then I'm going to take over and scoot you all home with my big Boot of DMing +2. |
| #225thorik_whitestoneNov 05, 2007 11:28:26 | Thorik raises his eyebrow at the oncoming orc. .oO (I donna care how many muscles he has. No way he moves those books!) The dwarfs mouth falls open as Savar grabs hold of two books and starts to haul the off. .oO (Wull I'll be a troll's...) He looks to Malic to explain. "Ya see me hands are all slippry, and... and me back... slept on it funny, ya know." Trailing behind Malic and Savar he continues, "I coulda got one with a better grip!" He helps Malic get the books through, and then leaps through the portal himself. He readies himself in case he has to tuck and roll when he 'lands'. |
| #226kneyejailbNov 05, 2007 11:38:17 | The dwarf lands very solidily on the ground next to the books. Looking back over his shoulder, Thorik can't see where he came from. Wherever he is now, he can't see any immediate dangers. He appears to be alone in a sparesly grassy pass. |
| #227malic_jannisstaire_dupNov 05, 2007 14:12:53 | "I'll go next," Malic announces, "It'll be best if you keep up the rear Savar." Malic nods to Harou and Savar before picking up what he can that they have yet to take through and stepping through the mirror. |
| #228kneyejailbNov 05, 2007 15:49:21 | Malic finds himself in the same place as Thorik. He can't see the last two of his companians. It seems the mirror is only one way. Glancing around the area, Malic is pretty sure they are in the pass. In fact he thinks he can see where they enterd at in the distance. |
| #229thorik_whitestoneNov 06, 2007 16:35:16 | "AH! Whutta welcomed sight." says the dwarf as he takes in his surroundings. "Thank the gods we didna havta trek across that ashy wasteland again!" |
| #230harou_dupNov 06, 2007 18:42:27 | Harou follows the others through along with his feathered friend. "I still have the feeling that we left something or someone behind. My mind does poorly when working with things that are not plain to see. I lack the wisdom to truly deduce deception. I think this is due to my lack of deceiving skills, something I am rather proud of." The Wizard goes on about himself pompusly for a while yet as they travel along. OOC So sorry for my absense, my schedule has been extremely ramped up with the new job. And plenty of other things I don't have the energy to mention. My schedule will change dramatically in the next week. Patience, things should improve. |
| #231kneyejailbNov 07, 2007 11:26:51 | Savar follows Harou out, and looks around. The Half orc points towards what he believes is where they entered the pass. "I think that cave is over there. I can drag the books to there, and bury them. We can send someone to pick them up later. No way I am dragging them back to the Guildhouse myself." He starts to drag two of the books across the ground. Show RP yourselves back to the Guildhouse and I'll run you through debriefing from there. |
| #232harou_dupNov 12, 2007 9:59:14 | "That should be fine." He says to the half-orc. Harou sweeps off his hat and sleeves his brow, sighing. "I hope the others fared better. At least we have our skins and with a small hike, which I am prepared to do without a rest, we should have a warm meal and cot awaiting us." He moves out with the others. |
| #233malic_jannisstaire_dupNov 12, 2007 10:14:58 | Malic glances back to where the portal would have been commenting mostly to himself, "a shame we couldn't bring the mirror with us." The half-elf sighs and hefts the groups treasure over his shoulder as he follows the others. |
| #234thorik_whitestoneNov 12, 2007 16:13:32 | "Anna shame we could'na find anymore a them stones!" he says trailing behind the others. "Warm meal'll be welcomed, thats fer sure." Thorik kicks the random rock as they make towards the cave. "This should do fer a bit." the dwarf says as he helps Savar stash the books. He emerges again from the mouth of the cave and awaits the others to leave the pass. |
| #235kneyejailbNov 19, 2007 13:37:07 | The trip back to the guildhouse is uneventful. The group gets a few curious looks upon arrival and are hurried into a side room. A guildmember they are unfamiliar with looks them over before speaking. "You look like you've been to hell and back. Get cleaned up and get some rest. You can fill in the details of your trip when you are ready." Show You are free to head into the city now if you wish. Just give your version of your trip before you go. |
| #236thorik_whitestoneDec 04, 2007 22:46:57 | "Think we 'ave sir. Think we 'ave." says the dwarf as he nods his appreciation, to the guildmember, for leave. "I'll see you boys later." Walking out the door he continues to leave a small trail of ash as he walks. The miles he has travelled has failed to remove all of it from his person. Brushing even more dust from his clothes, he leaves a cloud in the hallway, but could care less. After bathing, he leaves the water murky as a swamp. He feels relatively clean, and makes his way to his quarters. He sleeps hard and long. In the morning he gathers his gear again, and makes his way to the mess hall for breakfast. He sees a few random members, but makes eye contact with none of them. "Whatcha got this mornin' friend?" he asks the 'cook'. "Lots of the same." he says not paying much attention to him. "Except at this hour the eggs are cold, and the biscuits are hard. Pigs still good." he adds as he starts wiping off some plates. "Alot better'n I been gettin". he mutters to himself as he fills his plate. A pile of eggs are surrounded by slabs of ham, and biscuits are pilled high on top of both. Sitting at a table he begins to devour his meal. |
| #237thorik_whitestoneJan 02, 2008 13:19:24 | He eats furiously, only looking up to see if anyone of interest enters the hall. He finishes his meal and another mug before taking his plate back to the kitchen. He sits back at the table and sips his drink. "Hmph!" he exclaims growing tired of waiting on his companions. .oO (The dogs likely went to the city without me. Aughta thrash the lot of em when I see em next. I'm given'em another bit, then I'm heading out meself.) ooc Kneye, how will we handle the goods if characters are absent? I think Malic is still about, but not sure on the other two. |
| #238malic_jannisstaire_dupJan 03, 2008 10:20:03 | Witha nod to the others and a polite "Thank You" to the guildmember, Malic let's out a long and tired sigh as he walks towards his room. The weight of his armor, and the wounds cause him to drag his feet slightly and his arms hang limp at his sides as the half-elf moves down the hallway. Entering his room he strips himself of his armor and leans his weapons against the wall by the foot of his bed. Malic bathes as well, and when done he tiredlyempties the tub, and returns to his room where he falls stifly onto his bed and drifts off into a heavy sumber. After a deep and almost dreamless sleep Malic awakes with a start to find he had over slept by almost an hour. Quickly he dressed and washed his face before running to the mess hall. As he enters he smiles and waves at Thorik before heading to the coo, and gathering up a meagre breakfast he walks tentatively to Thorik's table and sits across from the Dwarf, "I didn't miss the breifing did I?" |
| #239thorik_whitestoneJan 15, 2008 8:36:57 | "Didna miss a thing." the dwarf says to the new arrival. "Have ya seen the others?" |
| #240malic_jannisstaire_dupJan 15, 2008 9:03:11 | "No, I expected I was the last one up. Maybe they're still asleep?" Malic comments as he turns back to his food. "Once we finish up eating we would probably be best off looking for someone to debrief us." |
| #241thorik_whitestoneJan 15, 2008 9:34:37 | "Agreed. No sense waiting on what can be done ourselves." The dwarf continues sipping his drink. "Should trade in the spoils as well. I've got a few things. Is the rest still in yer possesion?" ooc Even if that isnt the case, Malic, lets just say it is. At least until we hear different. |
| #242malic_jannisstaire_dupJan 15, 2008 9:39:11 | Malic nods, "yes I have everything still, we'll have to deposit most of this off or trade it in for more guild gear. as well we'll be needing to get some potions again for the next time we head out." Frowning Malic taps the top of the table with his pointer finger as if trying to make a point, "we were hardly prepared for anything like where we went last time." |
| #243thorik_whitestoneJan 15, 2008 9:58:03 | Some drink trickles down the dwarfs chin as he nods his head in agreement. "Thats fer damn sure." he replies wiping his chin with his hand. "We make that mistake again and it'll cost us our lives." |
| #244malic_jannisstaire_dupJan 15, 2008 10:16:03 | Again Malic nods and glances up and around checking to see if the others have showed up. Commenting almost to himself Malic frowns, "I think it's time I acquired some sturdier armor." |
| #245thorik_whitestoneJan 15, 2008 13:43:13 | "Sturdier armor wont do a damned thing to protect ya from a fall like you took." he says followed by a light chuckle. "A full suit would've crumbled!" he adds still smiling. |
| #246malic_jannisstaire_dupJan 15, 2008 14:09:26 | "Yes well next time I shall avoid climbing down any ladders," Malic comments with a smile. |
| #247thorik_whitestoneJan 15, 2008 14:59:06 | "And I will check for traps before we are ambushed!" After finishing his mug and setting it on the table, he leans back and stretches audibly. "Do ya know who we're to debrief to, Malic?" |
| #248malic_jannisstaire_dupJan 15, 2008 15:04:55 | Malic shakes his head as he stands up, "Sadly I do not. It's probably best if we find the guild member who we spoke with when we arrived." |
| #249thorik_whitestoneJan 15, 2008 16:10:37 | "Then let us go." The dwarf stands, grabs his gear and starts for the exit. |
| #250malic_jannisstaire_dupJan 16, 2008 15:34:20 | As Malic and Thorik exit the mess hall the Guild member from the evening before approaches them, "Ah just two of the very people I was looking to see." As he reached the two he nodded back towards the mess hall, "are you able to give me a beifing?" |
| #251thorik_whitestoneJan 16, 2008 16:00:50 | "Aye sir. We were jus on our way to find you an do jus that." He nods to the man as he walks back into the mess hall and has a seat near the door. "Where to start..." Show Malic, I dont care to finish, but not much time right this second. |
| #252malic_jannisstaire_dupJan 29, 2008 11:24:59 | Malic licks his lips as he addresses Thorik, "It's probably best to start at the beginning." Clearing his throat softly Malic begins the tale of the group, "We set out the same day as the others who had been sent out on the pass. After a days travel we approached the pass, and sheltered in a cave. We took turns on watch and during the fourth watch I spotted a strange glow. Waking the others we decided it was best to continue on. Later that day we happened upon a large floating stone spire, the spire had small holes over it much akin to a termite mound. We entered one of those holes and found ourselves in a large structure. In which we explored and came upon some small lizard like humanoids, as well as a small library filled with books written in a strange language that I believe Harou claimed to be Abyssal. After clearing this first level we proceeded to head to a lower level where we came across a great black throne. Flanking the throne were a pair of strange winged creatures floating off the ground and burning. We tried to help them but as we neared the throne an unnatural fright gripped all four of us and we fled." Malic's voice takes on a modicum of shame as he reaches the part of their first encounter with the frightening black throne. After a short pause and a deferential nod from the ranking guild member he continues with the tale. "As a whole we decided to move onto the upper levels, after moving down a hall Thorik found a hidden door and after opening it a trap was sprung but Thorik managed to avoid most of the swinging lades. After the trap reset itself a scorpion appeared from thin air and we quickly dispatched it. In the room we found eight humanoid looking creatures, their flesh seemed to be decaying even as they screamed at us unintelligibly. We left them shut in the room and continued on. After we cleared this level we continued on to the next higher level, off of the stairs we found many weapons that were designed to be wielded by beings much larger than us. Most of these weapons seemed poorly made except for one, we decided to leave them be, or fear of drawing the owner of the weapons ire. On the floor scattered around were parts of creatures, they looked to be eaten. Moving on to a room behind a massive locked stone door we came upon a room filled with tables and about twenty small chests. We found a large sum of silver coins as well as three vials of a silver liquid. The next room was what seemed to be a bedroom, in which we encountered a magic wielding creature. It gave us some stones and a pair of potions, Harou believes them to be vials of silver sheen, to buy its freedom from the spire. After an exchange of words Harou decided it better to take the items from the creature and let it flee. It had been trapped in that bedroom long enough for it to resort to eating on of its dead friends. After we returned back to the throne room, in the room we searched for hidden doors and than Harou cast a protection spell on Thorik so he could approach the throne. On the throne Thorik found ten of the magic stones we were initially sent out to find. After we left the strange structure and headed back for the guild house." Again Malic takes a short pause to allow the guild member to soak in the information, "we were the first of the three groups to return to the guild hall and after speaking with sir Woodhome, we were sent back out into the pass the following day. The next day we traveled into a plane that seemed to grow much hotter, and we reached a high plateau with a small trail leading to a vast valley covered in a thick layer of ash. As we reached the valley we began wading through the deep ash towards a mound we spied from the top of the plateau. After traveling some distance we were accosted by a pair of hollow beetles, which thanks to Harou's magic and Savar's might we dispatched without any major difficulties. An hour later we were attacked again by five more of the strange beetles, after we defeated them we continued on towards the mound. Again we were attacked this time by a group of skeletons, after a trying battle where we almost lost Savar we were able to continue on. When we reached the mound we found many corpses of devils, as well as a swarm of bats which we narrowly defeated. Exploring the mound after a rest we found a large pit with four ladders along the pit walls. I began descending a ladder and the ladder which was trapped fell into the pit, inside the pit which was populated by ghouls that after a short while we defeated. After resting for eth evening and being attacked by a last remaining ghoul we returned to the pit to explore. Inside the pit we found sleeping chambers, a torture chamber, a room in which there was a giant skull and some dead demons, as well as a room populated with large books and some drums with undead snakes trapped inside. Among the things we found aside from the books and drums were a masterfully crafted scimitar, five glaives, two fully used wands, a fur cloak, an electrum studded broad belt, two coils of rope, two long swords, and a pair of finely crafted composite longbows. We also found shards of a mirror and after we pieced the mirror back together we were able to travel through it back to our normal plane of existence. We left the books hidden in a cave about a half days journey from the guild house. If we could I would like to secure a cart so Thorik and I could retrieve the books." After a pause the guild member nods and speaks, “Arrangements will be made to recover the books, you two and your friends are free to head into the city for now. You are dismissed.” |
| #253thorik_whitestoneJan 29, 2008 12:45:10 | Thorik stares at Malic through most of the explanation. Only a few times does his gaze shift to the guildhand. He nods his head at a few events and raises his brows to show he has been impressed. His brow quickly changes to disappointment when he is told the books will be retrieved for them, knowing this to mean they will see nothing for them. After nodding his head in acknowledgement, he turns to the half-elf. "Helluvan explanation ya gave there. Couldna done it better meself." he says with a smile. "What say we go see the quartermaster 'bout this stoof?" |
| #254malic_jannisstaire_dupJan 29, 2008 13:48:13 | "Thank you Thorik." Malic says with a slight tone of embarassment. Nodding his agreement at Thoriks idea of trading in the items they found Malic replies, "yes, let us go and do that. I think I have most of it in my room." |
| #255thorik_whitestoneJan 29, 2008 23:36:24 | "Oy've got the belt on me, but the fur be on the orc." He pulls the belt out as they walk out the hall. "Wonder if we'll be gettin' anythin' for them books?" he asks as he trods next to Malic. .oO (Doubtful. Never hear of them again, I'd say. Probly best!) |
| #256kneyejailbJan 30, 2008 8:11:09 | A voice can be heard coming from the direction the guild member went. "Large books and magic drums! Saddle my dog! I'll supervise the recovery." An old looking halfling hurries into the hallway, trying to balance a large hat on his bald head as he hurries past the adventurers. He gives them a nod and a smile, but doesn't stop. "You guys head into town. Tell the bartenders at the Lich to put your dinner and first round of drinks on my tab." |
| #257thorik_whitestoneJan 30, 2008 12:22:07 | "That we will!" he responds as the figure disappears. "Wonder who that was?" |
| #258malic_jannisstaire_dupJan 30, 2008 16:20:11 | "I have no idea," Malic responds with a shrug. "Did you want to keep the belt? I think Savar wished to keep the fur coat. Other than those two items I think no one wanted anything so that would be a good deal of money to split for the group." |
| #259thorik_whitestoneJan 31, 2008 10:20:02 | "Hmm?" he mumbles as he shrugs his shoulders and looks the belt over. "Bit fancy for me tastes." After looking at it another second he adds, "See what they'll give fer it, and I'll decide then." Thorik follows Malic to his room and helps him carry all the gear. "You do the talkin'." |
| #260malic_jannisstaire_dupFeb 01, 2008 15:10:17 | "Of course sir dwarf," Malic responds with a smirk, "although you have a pretty good eye for tthe price of things don't you?" |
| #261thorik_whitestoneFeb 01, 2008 16:06:40 | "Not too shabby I'll admit." he replies. "I'll make sure they offer us a fair piece." |
| #262malic_jannisstaire_dupFeb 01, 2008 16:12:07 | "Well we can only hope," Malic comments wistfully, "I'm not to sure what the rules are for exchanging weaponry at the guild we may want to take it into town..." |
| #263thorik_whitestoneFeb 01, 2008 16:15:42 | "S'fine by me if we do." he says adjusting the gear in his arms. "Wouldnt mind renting a mule for the trek." he adds after nearly dropping an item. "We'll at least have a better selection of buyers. Here we 'ave to settle for the one." |
| #264malic_jannisstaire_dupFeb 01, 2008 16:22:38 | "That is true but we may not be allowed to even do so." Forwning Malic looks down at the items held in his arms, "although I don't think they would do that." |
| #265thorik_whitestoneFeb 01, 2008 16:26:09 | "True. They may. Jus'ta keep they're supplies up if nothin' else." Reaching the place he opens the door for the half-elf. "We'll know soon enough. After you... age before beauty and all that." |
| #266malic_jannisstaire_dupFeb 12, 2008 14:43:31 | "Aren't I younger than you?" Malic retorts as he steps through the door ahead of Thorik. As the pair enter the grizzled quarter master looks up, "been expectin' you two I have. Heard all about your exploits I have. So let's take a look at what ya got!" "Yes sir," Malic nods and brings forth the bundle of weapons he's carryng and lays them out in front of the Quarter Master." |
| #267thorik_whitestoneFeb 12, 2008 15:25:00 | "Might be," Thorik responds "but I know I'm better lookin!" He follows his half-elven comrade into to place. After unloading the goods he points out the finer points. "These bows are the finest you'll find, I know! You'd get well over'a thousand fer em each, if you took em to Garics!" he says trying to get all he can for them. |
| #268malic_jannisstaire_dupFeb 12, 2008 16:03:09 | "We will see, we will see," the quarter master responds to Thorik's comments. Beginning with the stones the quarter master slowly inspects each of the items, humming and hawing all the while. Softly Malic nudges Thorik as he and the dwarf wait for the quarter master. |
| #269malic_jannisstaire_dupFeb 12, 2008 16:30:24 | After what seemed to take hours to the two friends, the quarter master coughs and adresses the pair. "Including the stuff that they're bringing back I can give you 7385 gold for the lot of it." Malic, surprised at the amount coughs loudly. |
| #270thorik_whitestoneFeb 12, 2008 16:50:42 | Thorik nods his head in anticipation through much of the Quarter Masters investigation. He smiles when he realizes the amount could be large. He squints and glares at the elfs cough. He quickly covers and steps towards the counter. "I wouldnt take that offer from a market in the city..." he lets this comment hang a moment, not really understanding the finer points of bardering "...but seein' as yer no market in the city, it'll do." He turns to Malic, as the Quarter Master shruggs his shoulders and starts putting away the product, and smiles broadly. "I think we've done well." he whispers to him when he is confident the man cant hear him. |
| #271malic_jannisstaire_dupFeb 13, 2008 10:20:40 | After getting over his initial reaction Malic nods in agreement with Thorik. The half-elf starts counting his fingers in a vain attempt at figuring out how to split the amount four ways. Noticing Malic's confused look the quarter master smiles, "four ways is 1846 gold, 2 silver, and 5 coppers." |
| #272malic_jannisstaire_dupFeb 14, 2008 14:38:32 | "We will have to find Savar and Harou to get them their share." Malic comments to Thorik. |
| #273thorik_whitestoneFeb 14, 2008 15:22:50 | "Bah! Let them pick it up from here." He turns to the quartermaster with a friendly grin. "Would ya mind holding half this for the rest of our team? Dont know if we'll be seein' em this morning, and I'm sure they had to come by here anyway." |
| #274malic_jannisstaire_dupFeb 14, 2008 15:27:21 | The quarter master nods, "aye that will be fine, the wizard Harou and the big half-orc Savar yes?" Malic nods, "yes those are the two. I have a few things in my bunk I wish to sell to you as well. I shall return in just a moment." With a short bow Malic turns and runs out of the room heading back to his dorm. Smiling the quarter master looks at Thorik, "anything for you?" |
| #275thorik_whitestoneFeb 19, 2008 8:03:14 | "A few'a them healin' medicines if ya dont mind. Four of em'." He scratches what little facial hair he has, and give the impression he is pondering something. "That'll be it fer now. Gotta think on this a bit." ooc 200gp for 4 clw potions. At least for now. |
| #276malic_jannisstaire_dupFeb 19, 2008 10:20:01 | A few minutes later Malic returns and drops his flail in front of the quartermaster, "I'd like to sell these as well." The quartermaster nods, "I can give you 5 gold and 3 silver for the flail." Malic nods as he responds, "thank you." |
| #277kneyejailbMar 20, 2008 10:20:00 | The quartermaster takes the items and pays out for them. And then plops a small chest on the counter. "This needs to be taken into the city. To Nobody's Inn. The task pays 7 silver. And most likely free drinks if you can get it there tonight." "Are you interested?" |
| #278malic_jannisstaire_dupMar 27, 2008 10:53:25 | "Of course sir," Malic responds with a nod, "we're always willing to aid the guild." |
| #279thorik_whitestoneMar 27, 2008 12:45:09 | Thorik nods. "Could use'a trip to the city." he says to Malic. "We'll make nightfall for certain." he remembers to reply to the quartermaster. He ties up his money pouch and stashes it away. |
| #280kneyejailbApr 02, 2008 8:02:25 | "Right then," the quartermaster waits until the chest is picked up before going on. He writes something down on a sheet of paper, folds it, and then seals it. "Give the bartender this note, and he'll set you up." Preperations to head out go smoothly, and in less then an hour Thorik and MAlic find themselves on their way to the city. |
| #281malic_jannisstaire_dupApr 07, 2008 9:50:20 | Malic hefts the chest onto hsi shoulder as he strolls along with Thorik, "I wonder if this inn will be hard to find." |
| #282thorik_whitestoneApr 07, 2008 11:01:20 | "Won't be a bitta trouble." He walks carelessly down the path enjoying the walk. "Let me know if ya need help with that chest there." |
| #283malic_jannisstaire_dupApr 07, 2008 15:15:22 | Malic nods solemnly, "I should be fine. It's not that heavy and now that I'm not carrying around everyone's money..." Malic smiles, "I've never been to the city is it large?" |
| #284thorik_whitestoneApr 07, 2008 22:55:03 | "Aye. Quite large in fact. Largest I've been to. Course I've yet to see the world in its entirety." Thorik keeps up with the swift half elf as best he can. |
| #285malic_jannisstaire_dupApr 08, 2008 9:53:46 | Malic slows down his stride to accomodate Thorik, "I kind of feel bad for leaving Harou and Savar behind." |
| #286thorik_whitestoneApr 08, 2008 10:24:46 | "Bah. They should have made breakfast." "And ya ask me, Savar was not to be trusted. An orc that thinks he can out drink a dwarf must be soft in the head." He walks another bit before adding, "The wizard on the other had could have been useful I'm sure. Course I wouldnt know when!?! HA!" |
| #287malic_jannisstaire_dupApr 08, 2008 10:38:20 | Malic frowns, "Savar did seem a little over emotional." The half-elf shifts the chest slightly and stares off down the pass. After a moment he adds, "not to sure if he couldn't be trusted though..." |
| #288thorik_whitestoneApr 09, 2008 10:34:53 | "Whether he could or no, he could sure swing that sword of his. That will be missed, most." He pulls a bit of jerky from his bag and tears at it. "But we'll fair well on our own, I know. You swing your own sword well enough. And my hammers find their mark more than not." he continues with a mouth full of jerky. "Weren't you wanting some better armor?" |
| #289malic_jannisstaire_dupApr 09, 2008 10:37:57 | Malic nods, "I thought it best to wait for now, until we head off into teh pass again." |
| #290thorik_whitestoneApr 09, 2008 10:44:55 | "Well there's a couple Armorers in Garics that'd have just what yer lookin fer. Quality work! May even suit it to your prefrences... for a price." |
| #291malic_jannisstaire_dupApr 09, 2008 11:22:38 | "Well I don't think I lack the money now," responds Malic. |
| #292thorik_whitestoneApr 13, 2008 22:14:23 | "Aye, that's fer certain." Thorik replies with a grin on his face. "Think I'll get meself good and drunk and maybe buy a woman fer the night. Maybe even two!" Thorik seems lighter on his feet now that the prospects of a good night lie ahead. |
| #293malic_jannisstaire_dupApr 15, 2008 10:44:33 | Malic raises an eybrow, but once again chalks it up to Thorik being Thorik, and continues along the way. "I will be glad to have a good hot meal, and a nice comfortable bed instead of the bunks that we have at the guildhouse." |
| #294thorik_whitestoneApr 16, 2008 10:52:13 | "Wont complain bout those meself." "We should pick up the pace if we wish to make evenfall." he says as he begins an easy jog. Easily leaping over any obsticles, he keeps his hurried pace until he can no longer. |
| #295malic_jannisstaire_dupJun 05, 2008 14:43:46 | Malic keeps pace with his longer strides easily enough, although the weight of his armor slows him down enough that he tires sooner than Thorik. The half-elf slows to a walk a few steps behind Thorik as the city walls begin to appear on the horizon. |
| #296thorik_whitestoneJun 10, 2008 10:57:21 | Thorik slows, but keeps his jogging pace. When he is a few hundred feet in front of Malic he stops. He finds a stump on the side of the road, and sits on it waiting for the half elf. He admires the sheer size of Garics and the wall that surrounds. "Well we've made it. With a bitta time to spare. Not much tho." |
| #297malic_jannisstaire_dupSep 09, 2008 15:26:57 | Malic nods, "it's kind of intimidating. I've never been anywhere near half this large." |
| #298thorik_whitestoneSep 09, 2008 16:01:43 | "Aye 'tis. Ye can get lost quick unless ya keep yer head on straight. And if it happens, ya jus gotta ask one of the locals." He stands and keeps pace with Malic. "Now lets hurry. I believe we were promised free drinks if we made it to Nobody's before dark." He picks up the pace and heads towards the gate. Once there it is easy enough passing through, once the badge of the Silver Swords are shown. "Thanks lad. Can ye point us in the way of Nobody's?" The guard shows a mailed fist in a general direction and then turns back to his duties. "Good enough." says the dwarf as he walks way. "Shouldna be too far." |
| #299malic_jannisstaire_dupSep 09, 2008 16:20:49 | Malic nods a thanks to the guards, and chases after Thorik, "I wonder what kind of place this inn is." |
| #300thorik_whitestoneSep 09, 2008 16:36:34 | "Dunno. Tho a place named Nobody's must be full of 'em." He looks the clean cut, half-elven warrior over and raises an eyebrow. "By the looks of us, we should fit right in." he jests rolling his eyes. "Truly tho, this pin'll get us around well enough." He walks the streets until he gets lost. He asks another local for directions only to realize it is right across the street. "Ah. Thank ye." he turns to his companion. "There she is. What a beaut." He starts for the door. "Lets get this done." |
| #301malic_jannisstaire_dupSep 09, 2008 17:41:09 | "Let's get this done," Malic nods and follows after the dwarf. As the two step into the smoke filled bar, Malic let's out a cough. "We're supposed to take it to the bartender," he says as he tries to see through the smokey cloud, "do you know where that'd be?" |
| #302thorik_whitestoneSep 09, 2008 19:43:23 | "Aye. That be the easiest part to find." laughs Thorik as he walks towards the bar. "Come on now." he calls when he sees Malic lagging in the crowd. Once he reaches the bar he pounds a couple times to get the tenders attention. "Hey lad. Come 'er." he takes out the paper he needs. "I've come to deliver this to a.... to... eh." He turns to Malic with a look of confusion. "Who'n the hells were we suppose to deliver this to again?" |
| #303malic_jannisstaire_dupSep 10, 2008 13:34:31 | "The bartender," Malic reiterates pointing to the man behind the counter. "The owner is out but I can get this to him for you," the bartender says. |
| #304thorik_whitestoneSep 10, 2008 15:31:52 | "Good, good!" says the dwarf handing over the paper. "And doona forget the chest, Malic." After Malic hands over the chest Thorik smiles at the barkeep. "Now. How 'bout them free drinks? It's before dark, and I gotta nasty thirst!" Thorik holds the smiles frozen on his face. "I'll 'ave me some wine I think...and fill'er up!" |
| #305malic_jannisstaire_dupSep 12, 2008 11:33:35 | "I'll have some wine as well," Malic adds. The bartender nods and sevres the pair their drinks. Malic turns and locates a place for the pair to sit, "this place looks pretty crowded." |
| #306thorik_whitestoneSep 12, 2008 15:17:41 | "Me thanks to ya!" the dwarf says to the bartender. The dwarf turns to follow Malic and is quickly met with a crowd. He spins around one patron, while dodging another. When he thinks it is over, another wave tries to knock him back. He stays smiling through the most of it, but has to flash a glare to get others to move. The wine stays unspilt in his hand, and he finally finds his seat. "Whatta place. Aint it so?" |
| #307thorik_whitestoneSep 22, 2008 8:47:57 | Sipping wine has never been Thoriks thing, so he is on his third glass by the time the bartender returns to the table. "Finish up your drinks boys. This's gotta get back to the Swords post haste!" says the bartender handing over another sealed message. Thorik looks at the man like he's just been told a cow has been spotted flying over the city. "Ya dont say..." replies the dwarf. "No, I dont. But my boss does, and he says its important. But if you dont believe me, dont take it. See what your bosses have to say about it. What do I care?" Tossing the note onto the table, he turns and walks away. "Well... suppose we needta go back..." He looks at Malic with a grin. |
| #308malic_jannisstaire_dupSep 22, 2008 11:14:24 | Malic rises and dusts himself off, "than we best make haste and be off." The half-elf picks up the note, and works his way to the door leading Thorik out onto the street. |
| #309thorik_whitestoneSep 22, 2008 12:19:21 | Thorik follows and is soon in the street again. "Didja like the city?" he asks shaking his head as they walk through the streets. The two soon find their way to the city gate, and are back on the road to the Silver Swords. |
