| #1number_2_dupJul 25, 2007 10:26:08 | Settled between the dreaded pass of Hents Manavelins and the City of Garic's lies the Royal Order of the Silver Sword Guild Hall. This walled stone fortress is what the city relies heavily on to defend itself from the evil inhabitants of the pass. It houses the field office of the Silver Swords. Here they train, watch and prepare for anything the pass might try to throw at the city. The nearby lands are charted, explored and routinely scouted for dangers. The watch on the pass is never lifted. Day and night the members of the Order keep vigilant watch on the pass, doing their best to ensure the safety of the city they protect. Housed here is the Royal Order of the Silver Sword, the now official defense body of Garic's City, sanctioned by the House of Reise itself. The past twenty five years or so of turmoil have taken their toil on the guild members. A call to arms was issued for volunteers throughout the kingdom. Many answered, and at times still continue to arrive. The guild turns no one back, race, gender, skills, all are welcome in these dark times... The guild hall is a multi story stone building with a thick and tall solid stone wall surrounding the grounds, complete with battlements. The building itself houses both garrisoned troops, and officials of the order. There are supplies a plenty here, enough for the members to withstand nearly a month long siege. The main floor has the mess hall, offices, infirmary, training rooms, supply caches, and similar needs. The floors above contain mainly housing for the soldiers with a few specialized exceptions. The quarters of the members are private, aside from a couple of soldier barracks. Each is provided with lock and key for the door, a chest, simple furniture and a bed. While the guild supplies basic needs for the members, it does not give away anything extra. The Royal House cannot afford such amenities to every particular warrior. A hand weapon, a bow, and some armor, as well as food and shelter are all they provide for no cost. Extras cost, well, extra. Basic supplies are available at the Quartermaster's office. Here mundane equipment can be purchased and even some repairs can be made to certain items, providing they are not to extensive. Exotic materials are rare. Their availability is spotty at best, requests can be made, but the length of time to procure such items varies. Magical equipment falls into the same availability as exotic goods with a few exceptions. While scrolls and potions are readily availably, they are by no means a given. Getting healing potions and light scrolls is generally not dramatic, but counting on the Quartermaster to be fully stocked would be a mistake. As far as magical equipment beyond those mentioned above, their number is small, and infrequent. Such items either have to be requested made, at full price, or bought in the city, again, at the seller's price. OoC Here the adventures end. Feel free to role play with your peers or with NPCs as you see fit once you are back from adventure or during downtime. Getting official responses are by character request, so don't post for NPCs that have names other than cooks, the quartermaster(don't try haggling), and the like. If you have a special DM request, use the normal channels for that. You can buy mundane equipment from the the PHB, and sell such items for 50% their book value. The resale is low, but running such things like armies, fortresses, and the like cost money. Free room and board, consider your starting equipment to be the free items the guild offers. Stables available as well at no cost. This post is free to be edited by all DMs and will likely be done so at various times so check back often. |
| #2dorian_d_greyJul 25, 2007 13:44:22 | Dorian finishes his meal in relative silence, waiting for Xades ideas on the new arrowhead he designed ooc The details are in my last post on the adventure thread |
| #3xade_lilfellowJul 25, 2007 14:59:29 | "It looks bigger than a normal arrowhead, I am not sure that it will be anymore effective. Undead are affected by the slashing of a sword, magical energy, or divine power that would drive them away." Taking a drink he considers a moment "Perhaps if you bow were enchanted like I did to my crossbow last time you could be more effective against undead as well." |
| #4dorian_d_greyJul 26, 2007 0:56:21 | "I agree, but permanently enchanting a bow is an expensive undertaking. The idea behind the broader arrow head is to deliver cutting damage instead of piercing damage, hence increasing it's effectiveness against zombies and the like." Dorian flips the piece of paper and begins to draw a different design, this time a half moon with the arrow conencted to the flat back of the shape, curve sharpened and leading "Perhaps this would be even more effective, this way the cutting edge of the arrow resembles the cutting edge of an axe, al be it on a smaller scale of course" |
| #5xade_lilfellowJul 26, 2007 1:07:35 | "That might work, but I would recommend trying to find a safe way of testing it. Perhaps a straw dummy? A piercing arrow would probably stick in, and a slashing arrow should cut the straw." the halfling thinks out loud. |
| #6dorian_d_greyJul 26, 2007 1:17:25 | "Actually I was thinking allong the same lines about the testing, a straw dummy would be a good way. I'll pay a visit to the quartemaster later on to see if I can make a commision for the making of these. I need to get me some arrows and heads anyways. I nearly spent all of mine during our last trip" |
| #7xade_lilfellowJul 26, 2007 1:20:43 | "I need more crossbow bolts as well, I think I only had a couple left when the goblins ran for it. Also I need to get some more holy water. I wonder when our debriefing will be?" |
| #8dorian_d_greyJul 26, 2007 2:26:08 | "Well I hope Kader and Aridar show up before we are debriefed, Aridar is the one holding the stones we found. Besides I'd like to know what the rules are concerning the treasure and items we found. Thanks for your input Xade, I think I'll stick with the half moon design" Dorian takes out a new piece of parchment and begins to draw a more acurate version of the halfmoon arrow head. Muttering under his breath as he works, Xade can pick up a few things "..... to consider the weight. ...... an opening on either side of the shaft fitting should.... two inches at the base....., more oval, one and a half across" When the ranger is satisfied he turns to Xade "Want another drink my friend?" |
| #9aridarJul 26, 2007 13:18:22 | Upon arrival, Aridar makes his way straight to his room. He undresses and throws his dirty clothes in the hamper for cleaning. After a rest on the bed, Aridar makes his way to the bath. When he returns to the room he pulls out a fresh dress shirt and pants. With everything in order, the elf grabs his pack and leaves the room. He gets himself light plate of food and a glass of wine and moves into the chow hall to find Dorian and Xade sitting at a table. Taking a seat with them and without a word, begins eatting the food. A few moments pass before Aridar finishes off the plate. With wine glass in hand, Aridar sips and savors it. Finally, the elf looks to his eatting companions. Hello. Ooc Srry for the delay guys. I just returned from Iraq and have been a bit busy. |
| #10xade_lilfellowJul 27, 2007 0:02:17 | Hello, Aridar how are you doing? Yes, Dorian I would like another drink thanks. |
| #11aridarJul 27, 2007 2:34:41 | Fine I suppose. He says before taking another long sip from the wine glass. |
| #12dorian_d_greyJul 27, 2007 4:47:26 | Dorian nods hos greeting to the Elf, then headsa of for the bar. When he returns he places the preferred drinks of his companions on the table then sits and takes a long pull form his tankard "Well, any guesses as to the debriefing protocol?" |
| #13aridarJul 27, 2007 8:53:11 | Soon after Aridar finishes with his first glass, Dorian expertly places a fresh new glasss before him. With a nod and a silent toast, the elf takes another sip. Afterwards, Aridar answers the rangers question with a slight shake of his head. |
| #14number_2_dupJul 27, 2007 9:00:30 | Dorian's questions are answered. In walks, well limps, a dwarf. He's in full battle ready gear, and has a number of scars to show his battle experience. He sits down at the table with the others and looks them over silently. "Well now, you've returned alive. That's well indeed. I'm Captain Kralg. You've not met me before I don't reckon. Looks like tonight, you're reportin' to me. So, any success? I'm familiar with the assignment, so fill me in on what you saw, and what you found." He gets up and gets a plate of food for himself and a flagon of ale. Returning, he eats. OoC Aridar, your 3rd level feat please.... |
| #15dorian_d_greyJul 28, 2007 6:35:23 | After the dwarf sits Dorian begins to give a compact report of their mission "As agreed with the other two parties we took the higher road. Cut through the woods to avoid prying eyes watching the entrances. Once in the pass we we're accosted by some type of undead. After we gave it back it's rest it turned out to be a former member of the jackals. Day two we found a gate to another plane, after Kader and I got through the gate began to waver so we jumped back. We tracked on for the day, found a cave to sleep. The next morning found us on another plane, a nasty stinking slimy place full of hungry rats. Fought of an couple of waves, found some sort of ritual place of concetric circles of standing stones. This turned out to be the abode of some sort of minor rat demon. Upon it's death we we're transported to another plane again....." Dorian stops to take a swig from his tankard |
| #16dorian_d_greyJul 28, 2007 6:48:03 | Dorian continues his report "This place was dry and dark, every inch of rock surface shone with a soft purple light. Once removed the rocks stopped emanating light. We encountered a few zombies and we're spotted by a band of Goblins. Kader had a chat with them goblins and they deceided to let us live and share some loot if we'd help them. This got us into a cave full of zombies, we fought of at least 2 dozen but me, kader and Aridar came down with filth fever. We braved a nights rest in the cave, and found next morning that the goblins were gathered outside the cave. Weakened from the filth fever we deceided to look for another exit and headed deeper into the cave. This led us to a smaller cave with a deep pit in the centre. In this pit was a large zombie as well as several other zombies in the room. The pit held a pile of treasure at the bottom. We slew the giant zombie, fought of another wave of zombies and found that the Goblins had gathered up enough courage to enter the cave system. As we squared of against the Goblins with the zombies in the middle the world once again warped and we found ourselves back in the full daylight. Both the Goblins and the zombies choose to make a bee line out of the light and we found ourselves back on our own world.. Aridar and Xade can give you further detail as well as a tally of what we took on the road. I at least believe we have s few of the stones we were send after. Oh and we have found a great position to set up a small outpost or base camp half a day from the pass entrance. His mouth parched from the unusual amount of speech Dorian finishes his tankard in a third and mighty pull |
| #17aridarJul 28, 2007 20:07:44 | Once Dorian finishes with their tale, Aridar pulls out the sack containing the two black gems and places them in front of the dwarf. The gems have a very evil aura...they should be handled with care. He then retrieves the two torn pant legs containing the treasures they acquired during the trip. Trinkets. |
| #18xade_lilfellowJul 28, 2007 20:53:17 | I think they have pretty much covered everything I wrote down in my notes when we got back. Xade explains as he reads over his recollections. In all I think it was a decent first mission, we worked well as a team in my opinion. Sure there was a couple of rough patches when people started getting sick in the cave, but we pulled through and all made it back. Hopefully these are the stones that we were seeking too. |
| #19dorian_d_greyJul 30, 2007 7:00:15 | In the time it takes Xade and Aridar to add their accounts to his story Dorian walks over to the bar and returns with another tankard. Sitting again he looks at the others, if none of them has anything more to say the rangers verntures a question "Captain, I found that my arrows we're quite useless against them zombies. Xade and I designed new arrowheads that might be more effective. Is there a weapons smith in the guild or is there another way I can commision a few samples?" |
| #20number_2_dupJul 30, 2007 7:57:50 | "Hmm, perhaps."the dwarf says to Dorian's latest question. He takes a small soft leather pouch and collects the two black stones. "No sign of the wizard then?" He asks, but doesn't much wait for an answer. "Well I'm glad tah see you've made it out alive. Eat well, rest and regain your strength. As for those other treasures, do with what you will of them and donate the rest of the guild. I'll see about getting you some payment for your services." |
| #21xade_lilfellowJul 31, 2007 16:24:57 | "Oh I meant to ask before you leave captain. With treasure obtained on a mission from the Silver Sword is there an expected amount that the order should obtain?" |
| #22number_2_dupJul 31, 2007 16:41:33 | "Donations are welcome, but at this time there is no tithe required. The House of Reise fits the bill, and I think they realize just how perilous our situation is. Rewardin' those brave enough to fend off the hordes of the pass and venture forth in that dark place is a small matter, as long as it remains within reason." He sips his ale and continues, wiping a metal shod hand across his maw. "However, if the times darken, expect it... It might be a good idea to give a certain amount, or perhaps items that are less desirable, to the guild so that others may use them. I do know this, you'll not be gettin paid if your loot exceeds the wages of an officer, and a lesser one at that. " he waves his hand over the items. "And any magics you need worked to see what properties items have is provided, as long as you put in the price of materials needed." |
| #23xade_lilfellowJul 31, 2007 21:42:22 | "That sounds fair enough, Aridar did we not have some items like that?" the halfling asks |
| #24dorian_d_greyAug 01, 2007 1:49:54 | "I propose we divide the money and donate the magicks to the guild, of course I have little use for magical items myself unless they keep me safe or make my weapons more effective" |
| #25aridarAug 01, 2007 10:45:02 | We have a fair amount, Aridar says while he taps the two torn pants legs. Let's identify them first before making a decision. |
| #26number_2_dupAug 01, 2007 15:51:19 | "Aye, of course, since there are so many, you might ought to go to the Hightower and pay them for it. It would likely cost you less that way." The dwarf says eyeing the pieces in turn. "If you need some rest, and would like to do that, then take a week or so and go to the city. I will draw you up papers tonight and you can go in the morning. How is that?" Show Your Options: 1. Have the Guild Wizard cast Identify on each item at 100gp a pop. Total: 600gp 2. Take the stuff to the Hightower and pay 470 to have a big Wiz cast Analyze Dweomer on the lot. It takes longer, but is less expensive. |
| #27xade_lilfellowAug 02, 2007 11:22:13 | "A side trip to the city might be a good idea. We do not really have a whole lot of money to identify the items, and a less expensive option would be more desirable." as Xade agrees with the captain's suggestion "What do you think he asks the others?" |
| #28dorian_d_greyAug 03, 2007 1:15:37 | "The city seems like a good idea, There's bound to be a weapon smith there that could make me some of my new arrowheads. Besides I need some other supplies as well. perhaps it would be an idea to divvy up the money we found, then have the magics looked at and sell any that we can't use, or donate them to the guild all together" |
| #29xade_lilfellowAug 03, 2007 9:33:14 | "If we don't have any use for them I think we should donate them to the guild. There is a good chance that someone will be able to use them." |
| #30aridarAug 03, 2007 10:21:41 | The city it is then. The two glasses of wine start to take effect on the slim elf as he eyes the treasure on the table. I hear Hightower's an interesting place. |
| #31xade_lilfellowAug 03, 2007 17:47:26 | I have not heard much about this Hightower? What do you know? the halfling asks |
| #32dorian_d_greyAug 06, 2007 8:39:57 | "Hrmphh, I've not got much use for cities much less for mage dwellings. I'll leave that up to you two. I say if we're heading for the city tomorrow we'd better tuck-in early today and count our coins. I'll go see the quartermaster to see if he's got errands to be run in the city" Dorian gets up and after nodding a greeting to his partners he walks of to the quartermasters chamber. He hails the QM for a quick talk "Greetings chief, me an' me friends are heading into the city tomorrow. Is there somehing we can do for you if we're there, any errands to run or orders to pick up or deliver?" |
| #33number_2_dupAug 06, 2007 9:19:39 | The dwarf shakes his head. "I'm off to write your papers. Get some sleep and we'll see you at sunrise. Good job, lads. It's nice to see more seasoned folks out there traipsing around than the last lot I sent out." The dwarf nods and stands, limping out of the mess hall. "No, I put in for supplies and then they are sent for once approved." the quartermaster says as he makes additions to his log book, without looking up at Dorian. He stops, looks up and smiles. "My thanks however. Is there anything you need from me?" |
| #34aridarAug 06, 2007 10:35:28 | Aridar looks over to Xade and gives him a slight shrug. I don't know much besides the few bits my master told me. |
| #35dorian_d_greyAug 06, 2007 14:22:49 | "if you've got a half decent shield to spare I'd be much obliged. Just run it on my account, Dorian d'Grey's the name" |
| #36aridarAug 07, 2007 10:36:24 | Exhaustion begins to set in as the elf sits at the table recalling some of the things his master told him about...such as the hightower being filled with arrogant pompous know-it-alls. There were much more his master told him but with his eyes feeling as heavy as they did, Aridar found it a bit difficult to concentrate. Where shall we meet up? |
| #37number_2_dupAug 07, 2007 14:55:17 | Dorian's shield is logged and provide for him. The night passes uneventful and Kralg awaits all the party members with their papers in the messhall that next morning. "Weather looks good for yer trip. Just head South for a day and a half." ooc When making formal equipment requests please put the ooc information in an sblock and or a PM to the DM in question. For example.. Dorian wanted a shield. :fight!: Hmm, I know, a tower shield! Added.. ![]() there are four types of shields and these are broken down into materials; wooden and steel. Which shall it be? ![]() |
| #38aridarAug 07, 2007 16:06:54 | Aridar find himself well rested as well as the first one to make it to the messhall. Taking the seat across from Kralg, Aridar greets the dwarf then enjoys a cup of coffee while awaiting his companions. |
| #39xade_lilfellowAug 07, 2007 17:31:20 | After finishing his conversation with Aridar, Xade heads to visit the quatermaster and makes a couple of requisitions before retiring for the evening. The next morning he meets with his companions before setting out for the city. "I would imagine that the trip south could be just as dangerous, and I hope I have prepared accordingly." ooc Requesting a large wooden shield and getting another 10 crossbow bolts. Spells for the road: 0 - Detect Magic, Inflict Minor Wounds, Light, Resistance 1 - Cause Fear, Magic Weapon, Protection from Evil 2 - Bull's Strength, Inflict Moderate Wounds |
| #40dorian_d_greyAug 08, 2007 1:13:30 | Dorian joins the others for breakfast, placing his gear against the wall near the entrance, from the looks of it the ranger has had a busy evening cleaning and tending his weapons. His quiver how ever is still almost empty, only a handfull of arrows remains "Good morning to you all. The weather looks good for a walk today so I say we head out after breakfast" ooc Dorian leaves his spear at the guild, along with most of his gear and most of his money, he's taking 30 gold the rest remains behind. Weapons for the road, bow, axe, 10 arrows, dagger and shield. Beyond that it's clothes, armor and food and flint'n steel |
| #41xade_lilfellowAug 08, 2007 9:41:14 | "So..." Xade says between a mouthful of food "do we have enough gold between the four of us to have the spell cast at the hightower?" |
| #42aridarAug 08, 2007 10:44:30 | Aridar nods his head while taking a sip of the coffee. We have enough. After another sip, the elf places the mug down on the table and gets up. Once he makes his way to the quartermaster, Aridar makes one last minute request. Afterwards, he returns to his seat at the table and begins to drink his second cup of coffee. Ooc Request: 1x longspear |
| #43dorian_d_greyAug 08, 2007 13:16:32 | Dorian does not look pleased at the idea of paying for the magic but concedes to the point "You can use my share of what we found to pay for that spell but don't expect me to pay from my private funds. Like I said, I could care less about magic unless it protects or aids in combat" |
| #44aridarAug 08, 2007 15:23:42 | You'd be surprised, Aridar says into his cup. With one last gulp, he places the cup down and looks around for a moment. Kader.....? |
| #45xade_lilfellowAug 08, 2007 19:03:15 | "I would refrain from comments like that in that Hightower, Dorian. We could offend everyone there and they could turn us all into fish or something worse!" Xade says a little worried |
| #46dorian_d_greyAug 09, 2007 1:04:59 | The Ranger smirks "I wouldn't worry about that Xade, I'll keep my mouth shut when we're at the tower. When you're ready I'd like to head out, daylight's a wastin'" Dorian picks up his gear, slings his shield on his back, covering it with his cloak. His quiver gets attached to his belt, it's weight countered by the axe on the other side. With his bow in his hand he stands waiting for the others to get ready "I reconn we've got a day or three in the city if we want to get back in time. It's three day's back 'n forth" |
| #47xade_lilfellowAug 09, 2007 1:10:49 | Xade hurries his dish and plate off the table and back to be cleaned. Moving as quickly as he can the priest carries his pack and catches up with Dorian. Hoping for some more useful insight on surviving out doors the halfling listens carefully as they prepare for the journey south to Garic's City ooc Will there be a new thread for the trip into the city so we don't fill this one up with our journey? |
| #48dorian_d_greyAug 09, 2007 2:21:27 | "I propose we stick to the road on our trip to the city, it's faster that way, we can always decide to leave a day early and track through the woods on our way back. If we're lucky we might even get us some venison for the cook on our way back" |
| #49aridarAug 09, 2007 10:32:11 | Aridar nods his head in approval as his companions ready themselves for the trip. He then returns to the corner where he left his newly acquired long spear. With it propped up, the elf lightly runs his finger down the shaft to feel the cold metal against his skin. While just barely familiar with the weapon, Aridar decided he would learn to use it's length to his advantage. With his finger still touching the spear, the sorcerer recalls his memories of training with his master and the brief explanation he gave him about the weapon. When he notices his companions ready to leave, Aridar quickly finds a way to use his pack to keep the spear in place. The elf then manages to catch up and takes one last look around but doesn't find their missing friend. Someone should check up on Kader. |
| #50number_2_dupAug 09, 2007 16:47:11 | Kader does not show up the next morning. The sickness he had contracted came back and worse. However, the remaining three soldiers were supplied with papers from Captain Kralg. "Careful on the road. If yer needed, we will send for yeh, otherwise, take a week or two and conduct yer business. I've got an appointment. Nice work lads." He hobbles off with a well fed man, jawing orders as he limps. |
| #51dorian_d_greyAug 10, 2007 0:56:51 | Dorian notices Aridar with his spear, a new weapon for the sorceror "If you want Aridar, I could show you a few defensive manouvers with that when we make camp tonight. It's to bad Kader's still sick, I believe he had some skills with the spear as well" |
| #52aridarAug 10, 2007 19:35:10 | If it's not too much trouble. |
