Humming cheerfully, Eric bustles about the Inn, directing his staff in a final sweep-up, checking that the supply of mugs is adequate and that the tables have all been scrubbed.

You'll see, Kannan, we'll be needing that extra crate of pottery mugs I laid in.

"Yessir. Oh, sir, young man came by, says his buddies are gonna bring in some game for tonight."

Excellent! I just hope they dress them before bringing them here, there's not much room in the kitchen right now.

Eric hurries to the front of the Inn to assist in hanging some bunting under the eaves.

A large half orc enters the inn. Anyone familiar with Nobodys Inn would be quite shocked to see the bouncer of that inn, Grack, away from his post.

Everyone is shocked to see the fearsome looking warrior carrying two large flower wreaths and a dragon shaped bit of pottery that sounds like it has several small items rolling around in it..

"Marroc send." Grack grunts and hands them to Eric. "Sent to wrong place."

Grack seems to wink as he says it, but it was probably just a bit of smoke getting in his eye.

"Marroc send cook later."

"Him say your food not food enough."

Grack looks around the room and shakes his head. "Too bright. Bad for buisness."

Grack turns around and exits the inn.

Eric blinks in stunned amazement, and weakly says Thank you... as the half-orc departs.

He turns to a server, and directs the hanging of the flower wreaths, then scans the rafters until he sees a conveniently placed nail. Fetching a stepladder and scrap of rope, he proceeds to hang the pottery pinata from the nail, arranging the rope so that it can be lowered to thwacking height later in the evening.

THE large half -orc enters the inn, a heavy and very full pot, clutched in his sixteen inch arms.

"Therokke has brought the soup! Let the party begin!"

The barbarian raises the pot above his head trimphantly.

"Pig snout for everyone!"

Therokke places the pot on the bar and sniffs at it. He nudges the bartender. "Used fresh pig too."

Kannan turns an interesting shade of green and stumbles back a step. "Ahhh..."

Eric steps forward, a pained expression on his face, and says, What he means is, would you like to buy an ale? Oh, ah, and... perhaps that table over there would be more convenient for your soup pot.

He gestures to a table in a corner.

Therokke raises an eyebrow. "Therokke no drink ale. Therokke not savage. Therokke drink beer."

Therokke flexes his muscles and makes a big show of lifting up the pot before heading to the indicated table.

He sets the pot down, and poses next to it."Soup is here! Get while hot! No pushing! Plenty for everyone!!"

He waits for the expected rush of hungry festival goers to line up.

Some laborers shuffle over, sniffing the scent of the soup.

"I think it's free."

"Free?"

"Yeah, I think so."

"Well, heck, then..."

"It smells... familiar."

One fellow, a mason by the look of his apron, elbows to the fore and holds out his bowl. As soon as it is filled, he takes an eager slurp, then looks up, tears of happiness in his eyes.

"It is! It's just like my ol' Nana useter make!"

Therokke raises one eye brow and then the other. "Therokke not your Nana."

He grabs the soup out of the mans hand and sniffs it before handing it back. "Just what Therokke thought. Not enough pepper."

Therokke stalks over to the bar. "Need to borrow pepper. Soup made man cry. Therokke cooking do not make men cry. Therokke good looks do that."

Upon receiving a pepper shaker Therokke returns to his soup and liberally drowns it with the spice.

"That fix it. No more need to cry little man."

"If like Therokke soup, you really like Therokke Mother. She god. Only she can cook better then Therokke. Therokke take you to her Temple after soup gone."

Therokke flexes to show that it was not a request. "Mother save Therokke life when he freeze. Explain why pants good."

The big half orc poses to show off his loin cloth. "Not that Therokke need pants, why not show what Mother has given Therokke. Mother heal again. Mother all powerful."

"Like Therokke."

The big half orc grabs the man and twists his arm behind his back and then shoves him towards the door. "We go to Temple. Therokke will set straight."

With the light dimming in the sky, the aromatic smell of seasoned and spiced food draws a grey shape closer. Not wanting to prepare a meal at home after all their travel readying, Kywyn walks with NaShae toward the inn in search of dinner.

"So many people... Must be that festival. Is it today already?" he thinks to her.

"Maybe we should go somewhere quieter.."

A soft ribbit from under Kywyn's cloak is translated in his mind.

"New people... new lights... You're hungry now."

Feeling an indistinct grumble in his stomach, Kywyn knows his familiar is right.

With a glance at NaShae, Kywyn continues toward the Last Lich. He thinks of how NaShae used to work in this place, surrounded by people. Perhaps she somehow misses that... if even a little. In any case, the bouquet of the food is drawing Kywyn in.

Turning sideways to slip by a chatting couple, the two make a path through to the inn. Striding in before NaShae, Kywyn surveys the setting nonchalantly, marking possible drunkards or troublemakers, probable exits, and areas of cover in his head. He brushes the front of his dreary, torn poncho-cloak as he steps into the common room, a dark silhouette among moving firelight shadows.

Leaving NaShae to find a pair of seats, Kywyn walks up to the counter to order a couple of teas for them to start.

The noise and heat of the gathering grinds on Kywyn's senses, yet he can appreciate the feeling of drifting that seems to surface as he catches bits of conversation.

"...I'm not talking to him ever again!..."

Drifting on an ocean of nameless faces and detached plots.

"...Have another. I owe ya for what ya did t'day...."

You could throw everything in... soiled sweat, bitter tears, tainted blood...

"...You shan't regret it..."

And all that comes back is the tide.

A gold-eyed frog stares wide-eyed from the shadow of Kywyn's cloak, while Kywyn himself closes his eyes momentarily as he waits for his order, turning a gold piece in his gloved fingers.

"Well, here's a little more meat for this feast. If you'd like, I'd be more than happy to offer my help. I'm not only a traditional cook, but I can do...unusual things to help."

Summoning the magical energies like he learned from Angelique, he begins cooking while sending unusual flavorings into the dish. To help him, he invokes a silent assistant to make the preparations easier.

During a pause in the cooking, he fetches the bottle of homemade wine he has stored in his bag. Pouring a glass, he has the invisible helper bring it out to Angelique, in an effort to cheer her up after the hunt.

"Well, we have plenty of assorted vegetables, many loaves of bread (baked fresh, just this afternoon :D).. there's a half-orc over there making soup... if you trust the safety of it and assuming that he's handing it out..."

The door opens and in walks a tall young man accompanied by a female elf. They are conversing in elven for any who happen to speak the language.

Jalen: It was nice of Darkar to give us the day off and recommend the winter feast to us at the Last Lich.

Silmarwen: Yes I suppose so, but I wonder why he declined to come with us. It is not like he has anything pressing for him to do at the moment.

Jalen: Really? Perhaps he just wants sometime to himself for awhile. He has been busy with work and has rarely had a moment for himself lately.

Silmarwen: That sounds reasonable. Let's take a table over near the fire, that way we can avoid the chill when the door opens.

The pair head over to a table to sit talking of other things before moving to partake of the feast and the company of others.

The door opens, and in walks the gnomish bard, Inglebroq. As he swaggers through the crowd, nodding to his future adoring fans, the bells on his hat chime cheerfully. He waits for the current entertainer to be pelted off-stage with rotten potatoes, then hops up and takes his place.

With a bow to the crowd, he announces, "This song is in honor of all those who have passed on in the year gone by -- may we all remember them fondly."

There were three ravens sat on a tree,
Down a down, hey down, hey down,
They were as black as they might be,
With a down.
The one of them said to his mate,
Where shall we our breakfast take?
With a down derry, derry, derry, down, down.

Down in yonder greene field
Down a down, hey down, hey down,
There lies a knight slain under his shield.
With a down.
His hounds they lie down at his feet,
So well they can their master keep.
With a down derry, derry, derry, down, down.

His hawks they fly so eagerly,
Down a down, hey down, hey down,
There's no fowl dare him come nigh.
With a down.
Down there comes a fallow doe,
As great with young as she might go.
With a down derry, derry, derry, down, down.

She's lifted up his bloody head,
Down a down, hey down, hey down,
And kissed his wounds that were so red.
With a down.
She got him up upon her back,
And carried him to an earthen lake.
With a down derry, derry, derry, down, down.

She buried him before sunrise,
Down a down, hey down, hey down,
She was dead herself ere even-song time.
With a down.
May blessed be ev'ry gentle soul,
With such hawks, such hounds, such faithful love.
With a down derry, derry, derry, down, down.

A rare flea. A rattling flea.
Flea on a feather.
Feather on a bird.
Bird on an egg.
Egg in a nest.
Nest on a twig.
Twig on a branch.
Branch on a limb.
Limb on a tree.
Tree in the bog
And the bog down in the valley-o.

Tell me the tale about one who is so dear,
Sing me the songs though it brings me to tears.
And never let me forget.
Now you are gone but all my grief it remains,,
Weeping with sadness when ever I hear your name.
And I fear that forever will always be the same.
And never let me forget..
Let me remember the love that you loved.

Do you remember the paths where we met?
Ah, yes, you told me you'd never forget,
And never let me forget.
Then to all others, my smile you preferred,
Love, when you spoke, gave a charm to each word.
Still my heart treasures the phrases I heard,
And never let me forget.
Let me remember the love that you loved.

Though by your kindness my fond hopes were raised,.
You by my quivering lips will always be praised,
And never let me forget.
But, however long you are gone, know that I tried,
Still to your memory I smile with pride,
Blessed as I was when I sat by your side.
And let me never forget.
Let me remember the love that you loved

Though the last glimpse of Alissa with sorrow I see,
Yet, wherever thou art shall seem heaven to me.
And never let me forget.
Sad and lonely it seems now in my home,
But you will be in my heart, wherever I roam.
Remembering you, I'll never be alone.
And never let me forget.
Let me remember the love that you loved.

Minto stands quietly for a minute, looking at Hermy to make sure he is all right,

Once he sees that Hermy isn't weeping Minto smiles and strums a familiar chord to many of the audience. And then starts singing.

THE SAGA OF THE NIGHT OF THE SHADOWS AND HOW HERMY SAVED THE DAY

Undead forces had began to assemble
To ravage the city and make it tremble
Wraiths, shadows and armored horrors
Marched across Garic citys borders

The undead army, hidden by foul mists
Sent people running, afraid to resist.
Silence was shattered by the sounds of crying,
As many kind people lay down dieing.

There were few who dared oppose this horde,
Few brave enough to raise a sword.
But there was one man who knew no fear,
Standing against them was Mr. Hilldeer.

Brave Hilldeer issued a challenge to duel,
He had to buy time, he was no fool.
But he was overwhelmed, it was taking a toll
Those shadows had began to eating his soul.

But Mr. Hilldeer gave up not , he gave his all.
But soon he was weary and not long to fall.
But Lo! He appeared the Great Halfling!
Hermy the Hero, of whom all the bards sing!

Hermy stepped in to battle the wraith,
He knew he must keep his friend Hilldeer safe.
He handly handed his foe a defeat
And sent the evil horde into a retreat.

Many brave folk gathered and rallied round.
Around the Greatest Hero To Ever Be Found.
The Best of the Best, The Mighty Hin!
All rallied round knowing Hermy would win!

Hermy and those other guys battled all night.
The undead learned to fear Hermys might.
The wraiths trembled with fear at their mighty foe.
Hermy the Great. Greatest of Heroes.

Before dawn the undead were deep in a rout
Hermy hunted them down and chased them out.
He slew all there were, showing no pity.
For the evil they had done to Hermys city.

The people were saved, and let out a cheer.
For Hermy, his friends, and Mr. Hilldeer,
As the sun rose up high into the sky,

Last time I remember seeing you, it was with that young mage, Tynk, and that was really ages ago. Dear gods... it must be almost a year ago. I'm truly shocked how quickly time passes.

Takes a sip of his tea.

How I am? Better than yesterday is the easiest answer, as then I can relate purely on my physical health. But then again, I must say that I've seen too many good men to die, while I've lived. Lived to mourn their fate and to try to preserve their memory. Thus, I really can't say it's been a joyful year.

I've worked a lot, it takes part of pain away but not all. And I can't allow myself to forget, for to forget would be to betray and to betray would be to turn my back to Thalos.

Sensandela, fumbling, pays for her cheese and ale and carries them to the table at which sit the red pants and their owner. She smiles at the two halflings and sets the mug down before the bard.

"Hello," she says cheerfully. "Hope you like ale 'cause that's what I got."

She turns to the owner of the red pants and, after a moment, bows, respectfully if a bit shakily. "Mr. Hermy, in thanks for, ah, saving the city... Um, would you like some cheese?"

*she shakes her head as she remembers the meeting*

I don't believe it has been that long...much after Ran had come to the city I would say at least. I believe the last actual converesation we were having was about a Dryad and a tree...

*she pauses as she takes a drink of her ale*

I don't believe you ever finished telling me what happened with that...

*she frowns*

I can't say it has been a joyful year either. Much as to why my spirits aren't as lifted as they should be this day of festivities...

*she takes another sip*

I have lost so much myself and yet I have gained some as well... it is a balance on how the mother and her sons work I guess. Much to say that certain changes heed warning and silence to others just to keep that balance.

*she stairs into her mug and lets the liquid swirl like a golden tornado in her glass*

*she looks back up at Codrian*

New secrets being revealed..lies of old told only to keep others safe...

*she sighs and the liquid returns to its orginal form..still*

It was during that dryad thing? You have a better memory than I do. It still feels like ages ago.

Stares sadly at the cup of tea.

Another sad tale that one, though not one of us died while in there. The dryad, had been killed a long time ago, but had awakened again to torment living as a group of men and hobgoblins had begun to dig gold out of a stream near dryad's tree. We chased the gold-diggers away and allowed the dryad to live once again.

Since that my life's been in quite of downward spiral... every adventure resulting something to mourn or grief for. Even if the dead hasn't been my close friends, I can't escape feeling some loss at their deaths. For me... I guess I see the balance being twisted, others die and I live. Thalos trusts me with incredible luck, but in return I have my burden to carry.

Arches his eyebrows at the whirpool in the ale.

You too now? Occasionally I still feel like cursed, with my talents. I sincerely hope you won't ever feel such thing.

Of late, I've been having thoughts of getting on the road again. It's like something was urging me to leave behind this city.

Hermy takes the offered cheese and mumbles a quiet tanks before putting it in his mouth and chewing carefully.

Minto watches him for a second and then smiles at Sensendela.

"How did I get so good? Well the modest answer is lots of hard work and practise."

Minto winks. "But the truthful answer is I was born to perform."

"I was singing in the familky inn in Brannons Run before I could walk."

"Mind you, they weren't the best songs ever. I believe I used the word 'Gah gah ' a bit to much. But I think youth can excuse that, don't you?"

"And as soon as I was old enough to get run out of town,"
Minto winks again. "I had to make a living somehow. And heroing is a bit to rough on the clothes."

"I traveled a bit, and spent a lot of time in the various inns, performing and watching performances. And making a bit of money here and there singing fior my supper, and for a bed for the night, and occasionally someone to share said bed with."

Minto quickily glances at Hermy again.

"I managed to pick up a few things a long the way as well. I won my lute in a singing contest in the capital, and I inherited my magic sword from an old man who enjoyed the song I sang for him before he passed away."

"The life of a bard could make as good of stories as the life of a hero But... well I am a bit to modest for that."

Minto laughs a bit.

"And whats your story? A princess fleeing from an arranged marriage to a hideous old man? Ran out of town by a jealous old shrew?"

"What brings you to Garics? Surely you weren't born here, or I'd have heard songs about someone so lovely."

Minto glances at Hermy again.

Yeah... though I don't take it as being a curse..I'm not really sure where it even came from...it has only started a couple of days ago and I am still trying to grasp how to control them.

I was thinking about going to the hightower for information on what the power is..cause it is not a divine power..more hardcore in a sense, but yet it is a bit natural..like the energies are in the blood rather than from what surrounds you.

I could give you a lengthy talk about what your power most probably is. Instead, let me condense it to couple of sentences.

In very basic level, all magic is alike, method of accessing is only different. You know how to draw the power without help of learned methods and draw more, the drawback is: you can't do so many things with it. Seeking help from Hightower won't help, all you can do is to learn on your own. Even I, who can cast spells same way, can't help you much. That's the way of being an innate.

Shakes his head.

I have ties as well, but I know if I wanted I could leave in a day or two. Already this is probably the longest time I've been in one place. Every month I am here, even if I venture outside occasionally, makes me feel that the bars of the cage are getting thicker. Soon, I don't know what I will be... I am changing.

I fear that the change is not for good. For all the grief I've seen and all the things I've tried to do... I've lost gradually part of myself. And now as the void is filled, it's making me afraid of myself. I don't longer know what I truly am. Like, occasionally Thalos grants me spells I don't ask for or then there are days when I can't cast single spell, nothing.

Then, sometimes, I feel like there is something battling inside me. Two sides fighting and I am not sure my old self is winning, especially as I find myself thinking about things in a way that I would've not considered before. Or then I just feel that I am doing it all wrong, getting stuck at this somewhere and not being what I could be. It's all very difficult to explain. Only thing I can be sure of, is that there is a change happening.

Looks sad.

Look what I've done now... taken away from you a chance to have a pleasant evening and forced to listen my ponderings. I'm so sorried.

(Oh, they'll love me.)Oo. thinks Sensandela as she hops up the stairs. .oO(Or they'll hate me because I'm not a pwetty elfie-poo, but they won't be able to deny...)

She walks to the center of the stage with a bold grin on her face and, more importantly, with dried dandelion petals clenched in hand.

(So okay, it's really short, compared to his, and maybe the melody isn't as great... Ehh.)Oo.

For a moment, she seems only to stand there, humming quietly to herself, hips slightly swaying. She dances, warming up her body as well as her vocal cords. When she has finished, she blows the dust of the petals from her palm. The little cloud twinkles in the light as it falls.

"Hello!" she calls, grinning.

"My name is Sensandela, and I will be singing something short, and you may think it repetitive if you speak all the languages I do. I wouldn't blame you," she laughs.

"I wish I could craft lyrics like, ah, Mr. Minto does or even sing like him. I'll work on that. For now, this is Dandelion Wine in Common and a couple other languages."

Swaying gently, she sings first in Common, then repeats it Dwarven, Orc, and Elven.

Dandelion wine:
Crushed sunshine
and my soft summer breath.
A floating wish:
Sweet, careless,
not a worry left.

It is a soft, simple melody that, while lovely, sounds a bit bare without accompaniment.

One last time she repeats it in Common, but it is uncertain to the listener who is the other singer if there is one:

It sounds like two voices twirl and weave together slow melody and harmony. It seems only the melody carries the actual lyrics, however, while the harmony is only simple vocalization. Ghost Sound

The girl blinks and then giggles. "It shouldn't be very hard to imagine these people as stuffed animals. I always thought dwarves kinda looked like little bears, and elves like porcelin dolls."

"And halflings, well they already look like toys."

The mother shakes her head but doesn't say anything.

"I'll try again in a little while. After they've forgotten my first performance."

The girls mother nods. "And this time we won't follow that halfling."

"It sounds like you know Maroc, so at least you are going to the right places around town."

"He's the man to know, if you want to know anything."

"Speaking of knowing... What halfling friends of Marroc's? I know it wasn't Hermy or I, And most of the city's other halflings tend to stay in the halfling quarter."

"It wasn't... them was it?"

Minto cringes and points at the Mick and Vivvo who are dancing on the crud table, accompanied by Dirkko and Davvos armpit orchestra.

Tagg joins in the applause for a moment, enjoying the Common and Elven versions, but lesserly enjoys the Dwarven and Orc versions, perhaps because he doesn't understand the languages and the two languages seem to lack a certain eloquency. He then follows Minto's finger with his eyes and notes the familiar halflings and watches them for a couple moments before turning back.

"Yep, that was them."

"And new enough I suppose."

He takes another sip at his drink, as the halflings cries reach his ears. He stops drinking and slowly puts the glass down. He refrains from commenting.

"Not too painful. For me at least. But they are responsible for indirectly getting a couple of my friends sliced up more than needed."

"Anyways, Marroc had a job for me, Silis the spellflinger (something like you. Except all grim-like.), Maelut the cook, and Boirin the.. bartender. We were to hunt some goblins, and Marroc threw the halflings in as help. Well they wandered off just about as soon as we hit the forest. About five or so goblins, thirty hours, and a few pints of blood later we find them tied up about to be cooked by more goblins. Luckily none of them were injured (if that can be called luck) and we got away but not without a fair share of scratches."

He remembers the experience, recalling how Silis and Boirin had nearly died. While he has not thought about it all that much since then, the scene of seeing both of them lying on the ground covered in their blood ready to die and how lucky he had been not to experience a similar fate still lingers clearly in his mind. He reflects upon such for a few moments as he recalls the tale, quickly enough shuffling it from his thoughts and turning to another topic.

"Perhaps now you can tell me how you saved Brannon's Run?"

He takes another drink and looks at Minto.

"I'm not a spellflinger, and certainly there is no one else like me."

Minto grins and winks.

"That certainly sounds like those boys. You should have let the goblins try tro eat them. One bite and they'd die of food poisoning."

"But enough about them. Lets talk about me."

"And Hermy."

"Were you here when the goblin Warlord Kahn attacked the city?"

"Hermy and I were traveling to Brannons Run to find a home for an orphaned halfling newborn. Hermy saved the babies mother from robbers, but she died soon after during childborth."

"Since you don't know much about Hermy yet, I suppose a bit of background information might help you to understand the story better."

"Hermy's father dissappeared when he was very young, and not long after that, his evil older brother killed his mother."

"Hermy was raised by his older brother Kirby, but it was most certainly not a happy childhood. Kirby left him alone to fend for himself except when he needed someone to abuse."

"And Hermy didn't want the baby, who he named after his brother, to have to grow up without a mother. He still had a father, but he was a halftuck, so you can understand why Hermy had to find a decent family for Baby Kirby."

"The mothers family was from Brannons Run, so we went there to find Baby Kirbys grandparents. It was a long dangerous journey. Remeber how I mentioned Kahn earlier? Well this was during his seige of the city."

"We had to fght our way past his scouts, and even his elite calvary. But somehow we managed."

"Without waking the baby up even."

"When we rteached Brannons Run, you know Brannons Run don't you? It's the closest halfling community to Garics. Several of the
Garics more prominant citizens are from there. Marroc and myself to be precise."

"Anyways, when we reached Brannons Run, it too was under seige."

"The town officials, having heard about how Hermy saved Garics from a giant, a dragon, and an undead invasion, begged him to save their town."

"Which he gladly did."

"Hermy and I fought off the entire attacking force, and even convinced an ogre to change sides and fight for the side of good."

"Between Hermy, Myself, and Wyrmbait the ogre, Kahn was forced to give up his plans to conqueer Brannons Run so he could concentrate his remaing forces on Garics."

"Of course he did not plan on having Hermy stop him thee either. But thats another story."

"To continue on at Brannons Run, after routing the goblin forces,
Hermy, I and Wyrmbait returned to the town and the town begged Hermy to train a few of their sons in case of another goblin attack."

"Hermy agreed on the condition that the city kept Wyrmbait there to guard the city until the boys are fully trained heroes."

"And I think that may have turned intoi a lifetime position for the poor ogre."

Minto takes a sip of his drink.

Ah, the cares of tomorrow can wait till this day is done.

Oh, come by the hills to the land where legend remains.
The stories of old fill the heart and may yet come again,
Where the past has been lost, the future is still to be won;
Ah, the cares of tomorrow can wait till this day is done.

Oh, come by the hills to the land where fancy is free.

"My apologies my dear. My name is Joseph. How does my treating you to dinner and wine sound?" Joseph askes. God it stings! Somewhere deep inside of Joseph, he hears the clinging of coins changing hands... and they aren't falling into his.

Joseph leads Elise over to a table, where he pulls out her chair for her. "I hope I can make up for my foolishness by serving you this meal," the bard says. "I'll be right back."

Joseph wanders over to the bar. He exchanges a few words with the barkeeper and passes a pair of gold and matching silver to the bartender.

Finally deciding that she has enough drink in her, Brodda checks that the stage is still empty, takes up her recorder, and makes her way to the stage.

Without a word, she lifts the recorder to her lips and starts slowly, capturing her audience, weaving together for them impressions of a slow dawn in spring, the music crescendoing then decrescendoing. She lowers her instrument and, with eyes half closed, begins to sing of awakenings of the creatures of spring from winter’s long slumber. However it isn’t long before the bumblebee brings up the tempo, then she sings of the birds playing in the cool morning air, and she raises the recorder once more to her lips and plays a lively tune, expressing the youthful creatures’ playfulness.

The tune reaches dancing tempo and her eyes snap open as she dances alone on stage, encouraging others to dance.

*leans foward*

What people think of my face does not concern me...what does is a man who fears such petty things, especially if that man may work with me again.

Kai reaches into his cloak and draws a dagger. In one swift motion he stabs it into the table in front of Tensek and rises.

And the next time you insult me...I'll put this in your chest.

The elf releases the dagger into the table, allowing it to sway. Turning away from the table, he makes his way to the exit avoiding all eye contact. Once he exits the building he looks up to the moon.

I dont need anybody...ever.

His dark form dissolves into the shadows as he turns down an alley. Alone he walks the shadows, his fated path. Kai tugs at his hood while the cold winds stir his cloak.

*whispers in the shadows*

Holding out his palm near his side for Hex to crawl into, Kywyn sprinkles a few drops of water from his cup for the frog. In one motion, Hex jumps back into the folds of the cloak as Kywyn reaches for the glass with his hand. He takes a sip of the cool liquid as the scene before him shakes with music and movement.

There she is,
The lovliest girl in the world
Hermy was smitten,
The first time she twiredl.

With her fingers ringing,
And her skirts a swinging
Shes the reason that
Bards keep singing.

Watch her move,
And watch her prance.
Give her money
If you like the Dance.

Look at the way
Her dress spins round
Give her some coin
Or it’ll go down.

And look at the smooth
Graceful dancers legs
Just like her sisters
Except Alissa shaves

But don’t look too hard
If you value your life
This lovely girl’s
Soon to be Hermy’s wife.

"Oh, the water on the river of Derryadoo,
It flows with the deepest of blue.
Its strong and its fast, an often quite deep
And its much to loud to get a decent nights sleep.
Or so says the River Trader.

Carrying his wares on his ole' leaky boat.
Glaring at the water as the river gloats.
A glurping and a splashing all night long.
Singing a racous watery sounding song.
Or so says the River Trader.

Eyes bloodshot red, from another sleepless night
Deterimined to best the river in this fight.
The ole' River Trader plugged up his ears with wax.
An pulled in his oas and sat back to relax.
Or so thought the River Trader.

As soon as his eyelids were open no more.

The river complained about it being to loud to think.
And flipped the old boat into the drink.
Or so says the River Trader.

[color=royalblue]THE TALE OF HERMY THE GIANT SLAYER

Now listen close to the tale I tell,
About a fearsome beast and how it fell.
For a giant had come to set up a lair,
And to give the farmers quite the scare.

It terrorized the country, it ravaged the land,
There were none nearby brave enough to withstand.
The farmers were scared and rightfully so.
So they sent to Garics to get a hero.

Upon hearing the call, Hermy volunteered.
For there was nothing on earth, Hermy feared.
He gathered his companions for this quest,
and among those champions he was the best.

Gamis, Kal, Cassiys and Mister Proudfeet,
Set forth to help bring this giant defeat.
For they knew that they must save the farm,
And keep more poor farmers from coming to harm.

Miles and miles, they traveled that day,
Seeking the giant for Hermy to slay.
When the giant saw them he was full of fear,
Knowing that Hermy soon would appear.

He sent vampire birds, a swarm thousands thick,
Hermy worried not, he dispatched them quick.
Hermy strood up to the beast, proud and defiant,
And threatened with death the four hundred foot giant.

The giant growled, and gnashed his teeth,
But he knew that soon, he would know defeat.
Hermy felled it quick, his weapon thrown,
He dropped the giant with his lucky stone.

The giant crashed to the ground, loud as thunder,
His companions stared in awe and wonder.
The farmers rejoiced and started a feast.
To thank Hermy for slaying the beast.

There was plentiful food,
And the pie was real good,
The farmers sang, and laughed some let out a cheer.
And they named a cow after Mister Hilldeer.

"I've got a request for a song about one of this grand inns employees. Its going to be my last one for a bit. Thinking about the bartenders tends to make me thirsty."'

The Tale of Kal-Zakath, a True Friend of Hermys.

I’ll tell you a story,
Of one of Hermy’s best pals.
I’ll tale you of the adventure
Of Hermy’s friend Kal.

Kal-Zakath, or Mister Kal,
As he’s called by his friends,
Was a noble elf man,
On whom Hermy could depend.

Mister Kal, was a master tracker,
A well trained ranger.
Who like Sir Hermy
Is never fearful of danger.

Not so long ago, great deeds
Were done by this noble elf.
When Hermy was not around,
To take care of them himself.

Young Nige , a brave young halfling
And follower of Hermy.
Was lost in the dark woods up north,
While looking for a Puppy Tree.

But Hermy was out of the city,
Saving Lady Amberhawk yet again.
It was up to brave Mister Kal,
To find Hermys lost man.

Upon receiving the call for help,
Kal knew what Hermy would do.
He hurried to the rescue,
For he’s a hero too.

Kal set out at once,
He was soon on the trail.
For like Hermy he could track
By sight, sound, and smell.

Almost as quietly as Hermy,
Kal traveled and tracked.
And found the lost boy,
Just as he was attacked.

Easily a dozen orcs there was,
But Kal and Nige fought them.
They faught with skill and grace,
Just like Hermy had taught them.

It took them little time,
To do Hermy proud.
Soon all the orcs were,
Defeated and cowed.

The battle was over,
And Hermys friends had won.
But their adventure was not over.
Their day was not done.

For while he was lost,
Nige had found a birdlady.
But Kal thought it wisest
To report to Sir Hermy.

Hermy had still not returned,
And something seemed shady.
So Kal returned to the forest,
To save this birdlady.

Even without Hermys help.
Kal saved her from a terrible fate.
I’d go into more detail about it.
But the songs already running late.

She drinks half her ale in the pause. As she looks at the stage, she realizes something is jabbing her in the side. Her hand moves to the spot and rests on her coin purse. Some investigation inside places the blame on the gem from Burleg.

She finishes the second half of her ale and signals for another, setting enough coin on the table for Minto's next drink as well.

When the drinks arrive, Minto raises his mug in a toast. And stands up on his chair before giving it.

"Heres to Garic's! A city where even the smallest person can become the biggest hero!"

"To Garic's! Where a bard can find a song on every corner!"

"To Garic's!! Where anyone can find their calling in life be it fighting, spell casting, or loving!"

"To Garic's! Where you can get a decent drink and make a toast without getting pelted with rotten fruit!"

"Here's to Garic's!"

Minto takes a big swallow of his ale and raises it again and then sits down and whispers to Brodda. "What's a party without a few obnoxious drunks."

"Awww, look at meh! Heh heh." :embarrass

.oO(Wow, more people showed up than I thought!)

Shuffling into the noisey inn, Tynk stops short of hanging his fur on the rack to find it way overstacked. He then turns his attention to finding a table, noding to any in the bar who notices him. Tynk can tell he is a little late as most have already shown up.

There are no open spaces to sit, so he instead begins looking for any he knows. It seems though, most are indulged in their own social knits and he stands in the middle of the common room at a loss.

.oO(Um...)

He is bumped by a busy waitress from behind. Mumbling a shy appology to the busy woman he shuffles to the side and bumbs into a seated patron. Shyly he stammers another appology and makes his way to an area, although still crowed, has less flow of traffic.

.oO(Hm...perhaps I should go back to my studdies...)

The boy stays a while and looks over the crowed, noticing many he recognizes and many odd people he does not.

.oO(The atmosphere is too charged with positive energies to leave.)

Tynk spots an elven women relinquish her spot nearby at the bar and he moves quickly to take it. After a few minutes, a very busy Kannan asks his request.

"A bottle of wine please...just one glass."

Kannan says nothing but raises an eyebrow as he turns to quickly meat the request and that of many others. Soon enough though his drink is brought and the boy nurses the wine for quite some time alone.

He applauds at the many performances and is quite taken by the diversity of the mid-winter gathering. Soon enough, between the wine and the skilled performances, Tynk is light of heart.

He raises his last glass to Minto's toast and cheers along as he finishes it with a mild grimace. Then he looks around again and time slows for him. So many smiling faces...so much cheer...and Minto's toast is realized by at least one in the bustling bar.

A Gnome passing buy is selling exquisite roses for a few coppers and Tynk buys a white one. He turns his attention to the flower...casting a mild spell to change it's color.

Paying for his drink, he moves from his place and heads twards a pair of good frineds. Not wanting to interupt, he comes behind Anaya, noding to Codrian, and drops the rose on the table in front of her, leaning down to wisper in her ear.

"It is days like these that call for a declaration of friendships and a want for the merryment of them."

Stands back up.

"Codrian, I didn't know you could dance." ;)

Without awaiting a reply Tynk heads to the onyl empty space left in the bar, the stage.

He takes the few steps slowly, gathering his thoughts and feeling the weight of exposition as he nears it's center.

Smiling his boyish smile he clears his throat and begins...

"We dine among heros today, the littlest and largest ones. I am honored to be here and hope what color I may add can add to the merryment we now share. I assure you though, the compliments are illusions and will not harm you."

[i]Mubling a few words and a motion he bows his head and closes his eyes as four images of himself slide to his rear flanks, each acting as he does.

"I will tell a tale, though I am not a common spinner. This story is about a boy trying to become a man and how his intentions, although good, may lead to destructive outcomes if he lets his own desires cloud his judgement.

You see..."

He and his reflections take a small un-locked chest and place it on the stool in front of him, but only the real box shows once the real him releases it.

"...he traveled with many heros. He wanted to be one so, dreaming of it as he slept and waking to think of how it could be done. This was unfortunate, for it caused him trouble. His want to be seen as a hero was more important than his need to act like one."

The lid to the chest opens by itself.

"Mistakes he did make, and almost died many times. He was never able to contribute to his companions when faced with a problem, be it natural or foe."

As he continues a thin cloth spun of a silver color floats out of the box.

"But as I said he traveled with many heros, and he was given the light of a paladine, the hart of a warrior maiden, the nurture of a wilder-elf, the heart of a little hero..."

The closest to the stage can see a tear form but not drop from the many Tynks.

"...the faith of a priestess, the deciveness of an elven knight, the strength of a pack-brother, the stoutness of a dwarf's axe, the wisdom of a wise-wanderer, and all of these plus more to learn from. He needed their example."

"He wanted so to be like them...to be looked a with respect and fondness recieved by one who has earned it. He was torn..."

With a quick motion a dagger passes through the thin-cloth and it is severed in two.

"...between his desire to be a hero and his inability to not always have the right answer when given the chance to prove it."

"He learned though, first, that being a hero is not easy..."

He takes some slow steps back as he speaks to give a little room at the front of the stage, the two cloths poised in mid-air.

"...then came a light he did witnessed that taught him well."

An image materializes in the very front of the stage of a man dressed in shinning full-plate that some may just recognize as one in the bar now. The image lets out a call to Agathalos and raises the sword high, where light strikes down to the sword and flashes in it's arch as it is brought to strike. Then the image disappears.

"From that day forward the boy stopped trying to be a hero and started trying to make a difference."

Walks back to the cloth and reaches under and in-between the two halfs.

"And his heart was made whole again."

Much like the use of a zipper, Tynk pinches the two halves together between his fingers at the top and runs them down, making it whole as he does.

"Time went on and the boy still wasn't quite content, for he still did not have the answers he was looking for."

The cloth spins slowly.

"He found himself again with true heros, this time in a castle of darkness. Here he learned that the answers were always there...it was the questions that mattered, for they are where the answers flowed from."

"And for the first real time he truly contributed, and he began to grow."

More images materialize, and a total of nine Tynks stand on the stage. Holding his palm up small butterflies made of a yellow light begin to fly from him and all his reflections. More and more fly out until all about the room they fly, dozens and dozens of them.

"And now the boy is on the road to manhood, and he knows the road last a full lifetime."

The butterflies sparkle out one by one as the cloth settles back into the box and the lid closes.

"No longer does he want to be a hero...or be praised as one. He has true friends in the heros he has journeyed with and who he has yet to. Those are what he fights for..."

One by one the reflections disapear as well, and the box floats to the boys hands which he places away.

"And those are what he would die for..."

The horrific image of the gapping open-maw of a red dragon passes through the wall behind the boy wizard as if to swallow him. In fact, it does swallow him as the boy bows his head and closes his eyes with both hands grasping his multi-wooden staff. It's breath can be smelt throughout the room as it echos.

But a faint light shines through the dragon's teeth which grows brighter and brighter. After a moment the light builds to a flash and when it clears there is nothing besides and empty stool on the stage.

Maelut sees that people are beginning to leave, and looks for Angelique to check that she is alright. He spends several minutes, but is unable to locate her.

.o0(I'll see her back at the Inn, and I'm sure she'll be fine with this many nice people around.)

The cook gathers up his gear from the closet, and wraps some of the food to take back to the Inn for himself. This done, he waves to the thinning crowd, and heads back to the Inn.

Lucian's happy mood is replaced by an irritated frown.

"Sometimes I forget that he isn't my friend. It isn't much more than a buisness arrangement. He's too dangerous to be my friend."

Lucian applauds the rest of the performers greatfully.

"Very well. Nice meeting you, and farewell."

He watches Aramil depart and finishes his meal uneventfully. He stands up and starts to walk towards the door but as his stomach catches up with him he sits back down and watches the performances for another hour or so before departing.

As he walks outside it is early morning, the sky still fairly black, winter seeing to that. Tagg slowly walks back to teh boarding house to get some rest after the long day and heavy meal.

Hearing a feminine voice, Kywyn turns his head to see Angelique.

"Were you speaking to me?" he asks quietly.

Catching the end of her curtsy, Kywyn rises slightly.

"So formal," he comments.

His words come out evenly.

"We can talk. Now or later."

*stepping a little closer, she inclines her head slightly to Kywyn, then greets Silis and NaShae. Not recognizing Miriellle, she bows to her before addressing Kywyn

If you do not mind me correcting you, polite is a better term. Formal can mean stiff, or unwilling to acknowledge a higher status. Polite is nicer, and respect an even better word. Respect for an elder, or perhaps one more learned, or even one appreciated for wise sayings, it is valuable. Respect is much too lacking, not enough people understand the way it can turn a bad situation into a good one. Perhaps when talking with a magistrate, or seeking employment, asking for directions anything like that, respect is a powerful if not indispensable term. I don't think my actions were formal, perhaps just polite and respectful.

*she removes the puppet from her pack, and hands it to Kywyn, but speaks to NaShae

I hope this brings a smile to your eyes, and to your son's.

*stepping back and bowing again to Mirielle as she leaves, Angeliqué quickly looks around as best she can to see if she can spot Maelut, and failing to do so, turns back to the table

I would have brought it by this morning, but I was taken hunting. A bad decision in hindsight, but perhaps also some benefit came from it.

"Respectful, then," Kywyn corrects himself.

Kywyn takes the puppet carefully and lets his eyes wander over its features.

"It's great, thank you. You are very skilled."

After letting NaShae examine the puppet, Kywyn turns to place it in his knapsack slouching against his chair. Kywyn's hand brushes against something small within the contents, something wrapped away. He brings up the deck of reading cards.

He looks at them a moment, churning through thoughts before lifting his gaze to Angeliqué.

"You said you went hunting?" Kywyn asks.

*smiling half at the praise and half at the man correcting himself at an impudent elf's words, she takes a sip of her wine and speaks

Perhaps I should correct myself now, as I wasn't hunting, merely tagging along. Probably to the others dissapointment also. I cannot use a bow, or track an animal, or prepare the meat. Until today I had never seen an animal attack someone in anger, and it shocked me. I had never seen a person bleed from a wound either, it was a traumatic experience. Perhaps I have learnt my lesson and will leave hunting to hunters, and stick to what I am good at.

*giggling at NaShae's shock she shrugs helplessly

Yes, the Ranielina also teach every child to use a bow, but I refused all lessons. A bow is designed to hunt with, but too often it is used to hunt people, not animals. This is not correct, and I believe firmly in pacifism, therefore I refused all manner of training that could be used to harm others. It has not hindered me in any way, nor will it ever hinder me. If anything, it is liberating and joyous.

Flipping through his cards, looking into some memories, Kywyn stops at a particular one that is almost identical to one of the cards the fortune-teller showed him more than a year ago.

A jester, a fool, an entertainer dressed in motley. He appears to be dancing and juggling two stars which are encircled by the symbol for infinity. There are large ships on waves far in background.

"Always trying to make the pieces fit," he rebukes himself, though he could hear his familiar speaking as well.

Kywyn questions Angelique gently, but his words come out like rocks falling atop one another.

"Where do you come from?"

We, being the Ranielina are nomads in the elven lands. I would have thought this more common knowledge, as they are known for their entertainers. So I am not from anywhere specifically, just a traveller for now.

You are more likely to die when you go in search of a fight. Having something worth living for, and dying for that thing is noble. If I firmly believe in pacifism, and die as a result of not taking action against another person, then I have fullfilled my life and lived it to it's full as I saw fit. Were I to stoop to their level and fight back, my life would be wasted and I would be bitter, no matter how long I lived afterward, or tried to make up for that deed.

*she accepts the card, and examines the image, and the words spoken with the transfer

A wise person will keep the conflict verbal, that way no one will die and no regrets shall happen. Too many people rush headlong into a battle without first negotiating.

Peace and destiny? Yes, perhaps. I would see my destiny to be peaceful, but I cannot see it. I will always strive for peace, and to help others reach peace. But as I said, if my destiny ends in violence, let it be another's and not my own. I would rather it remained peaceful, I believe that everything can respect the fact that I will not attack them, so in turn they will not attack me.

Those are the people who I would seek to change. I think that perhaps they lack understanding or just do not like it when no one shows them any respect or common decency. Perhaps if people did not treat beggars like dogs, then they would not prowl the streets at night looking to mug someone!

*she stops a passing waitress and hands her the half-full wine glass

Yes, I would like to live to be an old lady, but I understand that radicals seldom do that. And yes, I do understand that people will not share my views, as many people make money from war or crime. However, I feel it proper to tell people if they ask me, regardless of consequences. Who knows, they might even be impressed, though it is not likely.

A tiny pair of golden eyes can be seen in the shadow of Kywyn's cloak near his right shoulder. They peer at Angeliqué intelligently.

"Enough trouble has found us that we are probably among those that can't share your view," Kywyn comments with a hint of a smirk.

Then all I could hope for is that my death inspires others. And yes, I gather that we shall never agree as our lives have been shaped differently. If everyone were the same, the world would be a boring place.

*noticing the pinpoints glowing under Kywyn's cloak, she starts then steps away slightly, not sure as to what being they belong. Interlocking her fingers nervously, she wishes she hadn't given the drink back, if nothing than to have something in her hands

In a way you can accpet my view, because you do not wish to kill me for being different, or perhaps stupid to your thinking. This tells me that you are intelligent enough to be able to rationalise what I say, and accept that it can work, just as I can accept that your path will work for you.

Kywyn gives Angelique a small wave as she departs.

When the cloaked figure approaches, Kywyn nods.

"Ulerian, right?"

"Yes.. and you are Kywyn."

"What could I do for you?" Kywyn asks, some cautiousness in his tone.

Ulerian leans forward and places his hand on the table. "I would like to further discuss our previous subjects"

Kywyn shifts his chair so there is room at the table.

"Something in particular?" he asks quietly.

Ulerian sits and crosses his arms over his staff in his lap

"You know what I seek correct. Whether wisely or not, I revealed that in our meeting"

"I have an inkling."

"Yes.. I have a feeling you may be able to aid me in that 'quest'. You have extensive experience do you not? In methods concerning certian aspects of magic."

"I've said in the past that I don't believe in magic," he says to Ulerian.

"It's a matter or perspective. But it's possible I've seen some things you speak of."

"Yes.. you see, I do not want to waste time with ones I think might be advantageous. You of course only know what you know, but that its self is a step."

He pauses and stares intensely.

"I want to know before hand.. "

"That is a strange request... but I suppose logical from your point of view."

"I can tell you a little. I don't know myself what limits exist. It's a living thing, the permutations that allow such abilities."

"Do you have specific questions? I should tell you definite answers aren't something I'm good with."

"Specifics..no. Not of yet.. I think however this is not the place.. perhaps somewhere a bit more controlled, and private would serve us better."

"Yes. Not the Hightower, though. If you have theories on the energies involved I may be interested to hear what you have to say in exchange for some... perspective?"

Kywyn glance to NaShae then back to the wizard.

"I will be away for a time. But later on we could talk again."

Ulerian Nods

"Do you fear the Hightower? "

"That is where I stay.. you may reach me there when your time is your own."

"Not particularly... but there are better places."

"When the time comes, then."

"Yes until then."

Ulerian stands and walks out of the inn
