Shatteredtower tries to be here between 1830 to 2100hrs most nights, longer on Tuesday and Wednesday. He often checks in at about 0800 hrs for an hour or two, but after that, he should be resting (and consider carefully whether you want to be distracting him from that). He will attempt to reply to e-mails over the course of the night, as he will have access to a computer (but not to websites - sadly, this includes his e-mail address), and has become proficient with the "cut-and-paste-then-save-to-disk" method.

I'm afraid you weren't able to finish anything in the time given to you. Try as you might, the art of making tanglefoot bags was just beyond you. Sorry.

By the way, here did the money come for these projects? I'm not saying you don't have it, but I'm a bit hazy on where it came from, due to the chaos going on right now. That would be 16 gold, 6 silver, and 7 copper for the bag.

Well, it's a funny thing - your message doesn't even come to 10,000 characters. Did I mention that I liked the 50,000 character limit a lot?

I do believe I may have missed the unspent point to go to consentration (which will always be maxed ^_^)

As far as money is conserned, Tynk has sold all but one scroll toalling 275 golds {LV:3 Flaming Sphere (150gp), LV:3 Exp. Retreat (75), LV:1 Jump (25), LV:1 Spider Climb (25)}...minus monies spent on creating the tanglefoot (16.67gp) and clothes (6 gp for two sets of loose "monk-like clothing). His previus funds added (13.5) brings to a total of...

Scrolls sold: 275gp
Previous funds:+ 13.5gp
~~~~~~~~~~288.5gp
~~minus~~~~
Clothes: -6gp
Tanglefoot: -16.67gp
Rope, 50' silk -10gp
Misc. (food, etc.)-12.4gp
~~~~~~~~~~ -45.07

Total: 288.5 - 45.07 = 243gp, 4sp, 3cp

Hope that clears it up ^_^. For reference of scrolls sold, see post in pg.3 of Hightower, forth floor of old threads.

Actually, Tynk, you sold the scrolls to pay for an alchemy lab, so you're overestimating the amount of money you've got left there.

ST for the new description, I emailed it to you a while ago:

But circumstances have changed since she arrived at the city and thus she was at a loss. Her body and everything she once had seemed to dissapear.

Upon request of her friend, Shae, she was brought back, under a different power...the power of the Avowed. Now she is in a form known to her, yet so far away. She is a wolf wild yet so domestic. She has dark tricolored fur (Black, white and tan) and still has the same deep green eyes. She is still wild at heart and that may cause her more trouble than she needs.

She lost most of her memory, which only now has begun to come back, piecing together what she had lost and what she is to find. They come to her in visions reminding her of who she once was, but there is a drawback to that side. Even though she is beginning to remember it does not mean that she can do the things she once did.

Her ability to use the divine as dwindled, and her ability to talk only puts her in a position which she does not like, drawing attention in which her creators do not wish. So she is restrained to only watch. She is wanting to know, wanting to find, only to see and listen.

As for her HP, how did it go down to 21 for her elf form? Shouldn't it be 28? She had 24(.5) plus 4(.5) -1 for her new con bringing it to 3(.5) making it 28.

For feats does she get the Still Spell or not?

Skills: Add these for my 5th level compliment
+1 Craft (Bowmaking)
+1 Animal Empathy
+1 Handle Animal
+1 Knowledge Nature
+1 Wilderness Lore

For Equipment she has...: Composite Longbow(not finished), Flint Daggersx2, Leather Satchel (Backpack), Quiver of 20 Flint Tipped Arrows(not finished..yet), Waterskin, Belt Pouch, Healing Herbs, Flint and Steel, Sack, Whetstone

5 0th: Flare, Resistance, Detect Magic, Detect Poison, Mending
4 1st: Animal Friendship, Calm Animals, Cure Light, Invisibility to Animals
3 2nd: Barkskin, Speak w/ Animals, Warp Wood
2 3rd: Speak w/ Plants, Cure Moderate

Also need to add her Bite attact in wolf form (1d6+2), plus her damage from the Longbow and her daggers.

After that I don't think that there is anything else

As an elf, Anaya has the base elf CON (8), not what Anaya has as an elf (10), so that's 8 + 4(4.5) - (5x1) = 8 + 18 - 5 = 21. CON adjustments always apply for every hit die, not just those gained after the change in the CON score.

For feats does she get the Still Spell or not?

No, Anaya doesn't gain another feat until 6th level. Consider it time to work on exercises that will allow you to move beyond the limitations of form, if it helps give you some ideas for how to play it. ;)

I'll note the rest tonight, thanks.

Also need to add her Bite attact in wolf form (1d6+2), plus her damage from the Longbow and her daggers.

I'll get the daggers and bow, but I believe I have the bite damage mentioned under racial traits. Perhaps I should move that.

A pair. Could be the last pair you saw. Could be.

Could be. No way to be sure, since they're coming over the mountains, not from back down the pass.

Or the dragons coming from where the other two came from and going down to the fire?

The destination is the only thing you can be sure of, since the pair you saw first were following the pass, not flying across it.

ST,

I do remember our AIM discussion of the alchemy lab, but I must have been unclear to the actual "puchasing" of the lab. We discussed buying in "pieces", but I did not post any such actions yet. Tynk only went to scope out the price in the marketplace.

As it falls out, Tynk was not gonna drain his pockets buying pieces of the lab, when he could wait to buy the whole thing.

If it is easier for you that way, then edit in whatever you feel appropriate in wealth. ^_^ I is of no consequence, as he is either saveing for the whole lab, or saving to buy the rest of it.

Thanks!

My guess is the purpose of "pieces" was to reflect the fact that you can't exactly go to the local hobby store and buy a boxed chemistry set, then get cracking on brewing your first alchemist's fire. I'm reminded of ST's description of a healer's kit, saying that if you want to refill it you'll most likely need to hit up several merchants, so you can have, ie, bandages, salves, herbs, tweezers (okay, I may be reaching on that last one, but for example's sake...).

And gathering the alchemist's lab's variety of beakers, measuring flasks, stands, stills, tubing, and burners is a chance to play out a tiny little storyline of your own. He might end up comissioning a glassblower to make pieces of the lab--how often does he get an up-and-coming alchemist stopping by his shop, so how likely is it that he has the stills for a lab in stock? He could visit an apothacary (sp?) for supplies of the needed chemicals and solutions. And I very much doubt that buying everything piecemeal would amount to Tynk spending more than the posted cost of 500 gp for a lab.

Ignore modern bulk rates.

However, if he doesn't have quite that much money, he should be able to get a good number of tools anyway. Maybe not enough to make his improvided lab a "perfect tool for the job" and grant the +2 circumstance bonus, but surely enough so that it is reasonable to say, in Tynk's case, that the "character with the Alchemy skill is assumed to have enough tools to use the skill but not enough to get the +2 bonus that the lab provides."

With my Combat Reflexes feat, I think I could do the most good (ie: carnage ) if we do the following...

orcs orcs orcs <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Aria ^<br /> | 10'<br /> v<br /> <br /> Gamis Hermy Aric (?)<br /> ------------------------------<br /> ------------------------------Wall<br /> Aramil Ran Thosar (all with spears)<br /> <br /> Mirielle Tahlin Tynk (Bows and spells)

Aria, sounds like a sound plan, but you'll probebly have to convince us IC about agrreing to have you surrounded so. Not that she can't handle it, but concieving handling may be hard. I like it though, as AoO's would be a good thing to draw when outnumbered.

Gamis, point well put, and I have thought about that. The idea I was striking at was not to drain Tynk's wallet and be able to afford things like the rope he bought and general necesities...not to mention an alchemists lab is useless if you can't afford materials to make things with it. ^_^

But in any case, I think 200gp would be a sound number to say he spent, leaving the rest in his savings. What do you think Miri and ST?

Well, it sounds reasonable, but I would still like a feel for you having gone out and acquired items toward that end, you know? Don't assume you did it, in other words, because it sounds like a character opportunity. It's going to take time to raise the full amount, and that's fine. But isn't there any potential for you in posting the search for a few items and the craftsmen to produce it. We can have the amount saved toward the final product, of course, with the benefit acrruing when it's all settled away, but it's not necessary to go from an idea to the completion of the idea in one day, let alone one post. If you let it move along, it gives you room to post for days or even weeks, no?

As for Aria's plan, yes, from the perspective of the game mechanic, it looks fine. Tynk does have a point when he says, "But could you talk the other people into it, since they've no experience with watching you fight groups alone?"

The other point also is, if you're first in line, don't they all just team up against you anyway? On second thought, scratch that - I see the idea now. Right, it is plausible even thinking in terms of "What will the onrushing army do?" No guarantee that it will work or how well, but let's focus on talking the others into letting you try it. You might find that Aric would prefer another plan - any other plan. ;)

Nevertheless, good idea, and I look forward to seeing it discussed.

Thanks for the input Bob.. since my idea is situational on what we come across in terms of numbers/makeup of the orc forces, Aria won't bring it up until she sees what they are up against. If I think my idea will work, then I'll post it to everyone to vote on it.

I'll go with that ST, you make a good point.

And don't think Tynk will be likely to vote in favor of the plan, as he is quite fond of Aria. I think the idea would be utilizing Aria's capabilities to there full extent. Let's leave it to IC.

Here is Aria's next action should I not be here..

She will stand her ground and try to find any sign of Hermy's location. Should he reveal himself, she will go to his aid to ensure they both get back to the wall safely.

Until she does see him, she will concentrate on the ogres 1st then orcs that try to attack her. She will use Expertise to take a +2 to AC/-2 Att for the first round. If she does not get hit that round, she will continue to use +2/-2.

If she is hit for more than 10 damge in the round, she will up the bonus to +4 AC/-4 Att.

If brought down to 20hps or under, she will either use Tumble to escape and head back to the wall for healing, or just run back if no enemies threaten her.

Here's Aria's next action should I not be here to post before I get home around midnight...

I've already posted her this round shooting her crossbow at the nearest approaching ogre.

Next round depends on what the troll does and how close the orcs/ogres are getting to the wall.

a) If the troll does not come within melee range and the orcs/ogres are more than 20' away, she will reload her crossbow (full round action).

b)If the troll does not come within melee range and the orcs/ogres are within 20' of the wall, she will stand her ground, draw her swords and engage them in melee combat when they attack (No Expertise 1st round. If she is not hit, she will continue with no Expertise the next. If she is hit, she will use +2/-2).

c)If the troll does come within melee range, she will drop her crossbow, draw both swords and attack using Expertise +1/-1 for an AC with Dodge of 21. (If she hits with the shortsword and sees it does no harm to the troll, she will attack the next round with longsword only).

Howdy!

Quick question: The troll attacked Hermy and I thought Hermy was in front of the wall. So did the troll reach over the wall and attack him or is the troll on the "walkway" behind the wall?

One more thing, is the troll so close to me that it is within the reach of my longspear?

Sorry if this is getting too technical but I was just a little confused.

Thanks. ;)

Yeah, she took things kind of personal, so she'll be where she can reach him. I can't see that being on the wall right now. Oh, and if Hermy is down there, he can't make a noise either, so that's one more clue Miri would pick up on that there's no noise to be made down that way either. ;)

You've got quite a bit of time left on the spell, actually - we're talking over 25 minutes, likely closer to 29 - or 28 and a bit. But you do have to ask if Ashina is one of those people who keeps time straight in her head down to the minute, and if so, how? ;)

Nah, Ashina is one of those people who wakes 2 hours before she has to get somewhere but spends an hour in the bathroom, half an hour on breakfast and the next reading the paper. ;)

Hermy, Gamis, and Aria are in front of the wall, with Gamis at the center--he took the position so he could be able to reach both of them to heal. IIRC, Aria was to his left when she first jumped down in front of the wall, but she might have changed places in the back-and-forthing; that's up to Jen as far as I'm concerned.

Then it was archers and spear-wielders actually on the wall.

So the way I'm picturing it is that the troll is now standing in front of the wall as well... Maybe taking advantage of her reach by standing in the mud, just beyond the dry space... Or she's being a dainty Demmionite demon-spawn and staying on dry land to keep her tootsies clean. ;)

Where is the troll in relation to Aria? (How many feet away?) From the sound of it we're on opposite sides of the wall.

Then I will edit, since her initial attack was on Hermy. I can't see her attacking him from beyond the wall, so you're within melee reach of her.

Aria last post.. I know that the ogres have reach weapons so they can attack her without her being able to attack back.. I posted my combat stats in the event any other orcs/ogres manage to get within 5' of her. She will use those attacks against the 1st enemies that are eligable.

What she's trying to do is lure the 2 ogers to the wall

The only trouble is that the ogres have up to 20' reach with those spears. They can attack defenders on the wall from a long way back - outside of the reach of anyone on hte wall, in fact, save the archers.

And on the matter of noticing the troll diving, no, I'm going to say you were a bit too preoccupied with matters at hand.

Bob, seems like the right time to switch from bow to hand-to-hand. Is my 40 ft. speed enough close with one of the ogres, or would I need a double move? I think 40 ft. should suffice, but I wanted to check - no way I'm charging in.

No problem. No need to edit, I'll post it up as my next action. Just wanted to make sure before posting anything.

Tumbling 20 of those 40 ft. should get me past that longspear and next to the ogre. Trying to stun it is most likely a very long shot, but I might as well try it. And I get better damage from my fists.

Okay, updates are in, but this e-mail is for me to remember the details people forgot to add:

Brodda is short one 1st level spell
Ran is short one feat for 6th level

Nowl, let's see what Darkar wants.

Yes, yes, I have. Now the question is whether or not the dragons might notice a dead elf craning his neck around for a better look. Yes, Darkar is more careful than that, but since he wants a measure, he is going to have to shift at least a little bit.

Okay, that was a good roll for the "Hide" check. They are roughly 50 yards from where you lay. They are looking in the general direction you sent Lakilea.

Yes, however it will fall under the category of a "basic" Knowledge (local) check (DC 15) at this time. For ease of play, assume that characters not involved or informed take 10 on the check.

This is a current event, but it's not one of concern to the common citizen at this time, so it's more likely to be known by those who keep abreast of day to day situations, such as merchants, innkeepers, and spies. (Not to mention your busybody wizard. ;))

Also will there be a private or public memorial for the fallen?

A very good question. At this time, Lord Malifaeyr has said nothing on the subject, but private ceremonies have been held at sunset in the chapel each day since characters returned, and will continue to be observed until August 15th.

I'll try to get a firmer set of guidelines up for craft checks shortly. I'm looking over your latest e-mail, Tynk, and I'm going to run this one by a few other people, because I think it looks pretty promising.

I do have one piece of bad news, though. The Combat Casting can't be taken as a 5th level wizard feat. That feat selection is reserved for metamagic or item creation feats, or for Spell Mastery. Combat Casting will have to wait one more level, I'm afraid.

Actually, this is rather amusing - I already have it listed as the feat you took at 3rd level, with Combat Expertise and Improved Initiative listed as your 1st level feats.

So the good news is now that you just have to find another feat on top of it.

To be honest, that is pretty amusing. I'll go with the original decision on the Craft Wonderous Item feat then. Time ta make me some bracers of AC ^_^ (As soon as I come up with a bit of mula sellin enchanted feet-warmers.) I didn't know you guys implemented the 3.5 changes so swiftly... I would've shared this other stuff I wanted editted in so it could all be done in one fell swoop.

Updated description...
----------------------
Sir Gamis Pfaebinn is a human paladin known in Garic’s City for his protectiveness, wisdom, cavalry expertise, and the din like a falling pot rack that his armor makes when he walks about. Patient, thoughtful, calm, and courteous, he’s something of a black sheep when compared with many paladins of Agathalos, known for their zeal and sometimes overbearing nature when it comes to dispensing justice. Gamis, in a departure from the Lightbringer norm, will protect the innocent and helpless with nary a thought before turning his wrath on the evil that threatened them.

Gamis stands at a hair over six feet and is built solidly, with his weight climbing as his muscle has bulked. He looked considerably lighter than he actually was on his arrival to the city, but now appears to be all of his 190 pounds--with his preferred armor making him look broader and adding fifty pounds to his mass. He’s olive-skinned, brown-haired, and has eyes of a grayish blue. Gamis is sometimes described as “pretty,” to his annoyance, but he does possess a handsome, high-cheek-boned face and a pleasant smile. He keeps his hair between full and short, trimmed close along the back and sides, longer on the top, generally in order after he tames it in the morning--except for the stubborn cowlick at the back that rarely, if ever, lays down.

When kitted for battle, Gamis wears an almost blindingly-polished (another trait he’s known for) suit of fullplate, his blue surcoat over it to protect the finish. It shines brightly, but makes a great deal of noise when he moves, and the plates even slide over each other when he simply breathes. Gamis doesn’t mind, but it can bother the more stealthy denizens of the city like Hermy, Aria, and Darkar, whom he’s known to associate with. The paladin’s lack of finesse bothers him none, as he knows that he’s too clumsy for it to suit him, and he can ignore jibes from elven rangers and the like. Over his left shoulder, or on that arm when fighting, he carries a heavy steel shield, round in shape. His casual attire is usually quiet and nondescript. Blue being the color of sincerity and honor, he wears it frequently.

The thick sword belt that circles his waist bears his main weapon while on foot on his left hip: a bastard sword. He has a sentimental attachment to it (it was forged by his blacksmith family), takes excellent care of the edge and its polish, and has put it to much use. His other hip carries his backup weapon: a single-bitted masterwork silvered battleaxe, forged by the Church of Agathalos in Garic’s to deal with a rumored werewolf. He’s not as fond of it, but relies upon it when disarmed, dealing with lycanthropes or fiends, or beheading a monster. A further back-up is the dagger he carries in a wrist sheath (actually the only magical weapon he owns). His ranged weapon of choice is a light-colored mighty composite shortbow, made of yew--he gives up power for the ability to use it on horseback. Speaking of horseback, he is highly-trained in mounted combat, handling a lance superbly.

Teamed with his heavy warhorse and partner, Valor, Gamis is about as subtle as a charging rhinoceros, but deals considerably more damage. Valor is a tall, strong, heavily-built destrier. His coat is a light gray, with his long mane and tail, and right forehoof a darker shade of gray. When not in battle, Valor’s demeanor is loyal and protective, but surprisingly mellow for a warhorse--he’s especially gentle around human women, children, elves, half-elves, and halflings. In combat, however, his breeding and training show in the fierce look in his eyes and powerful kicks, strikes, and bites (Gamis reins him with a hackamore, so there’s no bit to interfere with his biting) he can hand out. Studded leather barding adds more protection to his hide, which is already strengthened by the divine power that brought the two of them together.

He wears an eclectic arrangement of jewelry, the largest piece being a heavy copper bracer that he wears when not in his fullplate (it doesn’t fit over his gauntlets), usually on his left wrist. Those who know him and watch his mannerisms know that twisting the rune-covered bracer around on his wrist is a subconscious sign that he’s thinking (his gauntlet fills its role when fully armored). He has no piercings, nor any tattoos. A fine-linked silver chain that he wears close around his neck is a gift from the elderly paladin who instructed him in the esoteric ways and principles of his duty. Also around his neck on a braided leather cord is a tiny box, containing scraps of holy script. This phylactery of faithfulness fits well under his shirt and armor, and is uncommonly seen. Two platinum rings fit on his left thumb, one of them etched with a pattern like dragon scales, and the other with waves. These are the focus component to the shield other spell he can cast. The silver ring he wears on his right hand, bearing the symbol of Agathalos’s Lightbringer aspect, is the final piece, and the one he cares for the most. When the catch it worked, a compartment spills open and releases the light of a continual flame spell, thus providing him with a permanent light source. Other pieces he owns, but rarely, if ever, wears on his person, are awards for his aid he has given to the city: one a gold medal from the lords of the city for helping stop a plague of fiendish centipedes, the other a platinum medallion from the Jackals, also the sign of his honorary knighthood with Lord Malifaeyr’s personal army.

Gamis is often found in the company of Dame Mirielle Dyer, the high-ranking Hightower mage. A slow-starting romance has led to him living with her and her weasel familiar, Ixchal, in a recently-purchased two-story house not far from the marketsquare. The glowing ring is a cherished gift from her. Valor has a special soft spot for Miri, especially when she gives him apples.
----------------------

Also, some stuff about Valor... His speed is increased by +10 feet, up to 60. Uber-Pferd go zoom. His speed is also relevant to his Jump modifier, to the tune of +12?!
"Your dog can jump."

Considering the possible nasties with Improved Grab out there, here's his BAB/Grapple all figured out for ya, too... +6/+15. And Uber-Pferd's carrying capacities: with a Strength of 20 and being a quadruped, a light load for Valor is not more that 399 lbs, a medium load is 400-798 lbs, and a heavy load is 799-1200 lbs.

Bow to the Uber-Pferd.

Eight more game days during which your activity for the day is the creation of the tanglefoot back. I'm still working on a simplified system for this and other crafts, as well as a system for earning income.

A little help over in the LLI.

Thosar is just now finding out that Burleg had an altercation with Eric a while ago. I just wanted to ask if it would make sense to take down the notice on the board regarding Burleg. It makes sense to me that Eric wouldn't even want him in the bar at all, so he would probably take the notice down.

Anyway, I can have Thosar take it down if you like, if Eric would have said something to that effect. If not, I'll just shush-up about the whole thing. ;)

Thanks!

It's what a butcher does for a living.

Take 10. Also, Survival is about finding enough for you (and those you travel with) to eat, not making a living at bringing home game - that's a Profession skill.

In short, it's about finding enough grubs, squirrels, roots, and maybe a rabbit or quail to sustain a group on the road. It's not about bringing home deer and pelts. One can bring home enough for a small table at the end of a day of looking, but it's based on taking 10 on the roll, and it doesn't involve left-overs. ;)

Hope that helps.

Four feet long by half a foot wide. You can try it.

Also, how big is this room before it reaches the corridor? The descriptions make it sound as though we are having to climb over each other to get to the passage, am I reading that correctly?

Obviously not. ;)

To give you a better idea (and you've been to this room before - I'd have told you if its dimensions had changed so drastically), it's about 20 feet to the arrow slit Darkar is positioned at. The room extends about 15 feet to the left of the 10 foot wide hall you entered the room from, and then ends in a wall extending down the hallway toward the door to this room.

- Blight is missing the special qualities he gets from being a companion (to wit, Link, Share Spells and Evasion)
- Screech is missing Link
- Hodge is apparently Burleg's companion? Not that I expect him to get involved in combat, but I'm not sure you're even aware of this...

What can I do about my lost level ST?
#180

shatteredtower

Oct 18, 2003 1:18:56
The 4th level cleric/paladin spell restoration is capable of recovering one level lost, provided that it is cast within one day per caster level of the level lost.

The material component for the spell costs 100 gp, and the cleric will typically charge 280 gp (4th level spell x 7th level cleric x 10 gp). As she's on this mission with you, Silmarwen would likely cast it at no charge so long as the cost of the materials was covered -- and your group should have a fair sum left over above 100 gp, if all goes well.

Unfortunately, Sil is a level too low to cast the spell, unless she can acquire a scroll (and then there's a slight chance of failure). Natala can do it, but I can't speak for whether or not she'll do it for less than standard rates. It's not typical healing, after all, and that's a call she's going to have to make.

If she survives her current assignment, of course.

After the one day/caster level expires, there's the option of having greater restoration cast by a 13th+ level cleric, at least for one week per caster level. However, since that costs the cleric 500 xp (and you 2500 gp for that sacrifice), the total fee comes to 3410 gp. You might prefer to get back to the city within a week, but that gives you a few more days to check this place over.

zombiegleemax

Oct 18, 2003 15:25:16

I'm not sure why -- you haven't checked all of the available locations yet. I should also warn you that you aren't well equipped for digging through stone floors. This will not only take a long time, it could be risky for the equipment used.

Alright no digging, but I thought we had checked everywhere already?

You've got 38.

How long (ish) where we on that adventure?

Until sometime within the last two days. If you're Aric, you were kept at the temple for awhile, as they made sure you were okay. If you were Aria, you've been generally out of sight for one reason or another.

where do I find a link to an SRD?

Check the first post in Character Information. I may also have placed it in Information and rules. It's entitled something like "This link..."

Aramil would like to get started on making his new waraxe and his new shield (if I can) soon, just incase he might get caught up in another adventure soon. So can either one of you two tell me how much it will cost to make the following: Masterworked Dwarven Waraxe and a Masterworked Steel Shield. Also how long it will take to make both of them.

Thanks, Aramil will really appreciate it. :D

Dec 10, 2003 20:23:31
Materwork large or small steel shield?

It may take a whiles for you to complete both items. You are talking about many hundred-golds production. For an idea, look at it like this.

Waraxe creation: 300sp DC: 18

Once finished it's creation, you begin working on it's Masterwork element.

MW addition to Waraxe: 3000sp DC: 20

So it would cost you a total of 110gp (assuming you do not fail the roll(s) by 5 or more...and would take you quite some time. Look at the following (and all this can be found in the SRD):

Multiply your check result by the DC of what you are trying to create...this equalls the number of silver pieces you have contributed to it's 'total price' (which, as above, is 300sp for the axe initially at DC: 18...then once created it's another 3000sp of creation at DC: 20 for the MW).

So...let's say all your check rolls result in an adverage '10'.

10+14=24

This will have the item ready to add the MW component in less than a week IC (5-6 days). If I am not mistaken, then you begin rolling on the MW component...which with that check result would take appx. 5 more weeks IC. [at 480sp/week...]

You will be trebbled for quite some time making that axe my friend.

Thank you, Tynk. I am working on a small adjustment formula, but I think that addresses it pretty well for now, and it covers the key point (one which I have covered before with our noted weaponsmiths): masterwork weapons and armor take a long time to craft. Also, I've covered the cost of making these two particular items, and recorded it on Aramil's character sheet.

Exact times may vary a bit. I'm working on a slightly more game friendly system, but there is a limit on how much I can change. Stay tuned.

Thanks!

Aramil, please don't quote huge blocks of text just to add a smilie at the end. The last sentence you quoted from Tynk's message would have sufficed. And if you want to finish the journey of a thousand miles, yes, making that first step would be a good idea.

Thosar, you tell us, hmm? Are you a cleric or aren't you, as far as the church will be concerned? I guess not, and you really didn't need us to tell you that, did you? Consider the library off limits for now, Thosar.

Level 4 Updates
Extra Ability Point: +1 to Dex
Revised Saves: (yay i've learned how to figure these out )
~Fort +4
~Ref +8
~Will +2

BAB: +4 (+6 melee, +8 ranged)
HP: 21 i think

Skills:
~+1 rank to Survival
~+1 rank to Move Silently
~+1 rank to Knowledge (nature)
~+1 rank to Spot
~+3 ranks to Hide

Stuff Revised from the Dex Point:
~Initiative now +4
~AC now 18
~The skills Move Silently, Balance and Hide bonuses increased by 1

Class Updates:
~Wild Empathy now +5 (+4 lvl +1 cha)
~Animal Companion (Effective Druid Level: 2) Info below
~Ability to cast one Level 1 spell per day (+0 norm +1 bonus)

Equipment/Monetary Updates:
New Equipment: silver bracelet
New Money Amt*: 70 gold, 268 silver, 232 copper

Animal Companion Info: written in the format common to the char info thread for easier transferrance:

Maekka, (animal companion, eagle, small-sized animal): Hit Dice: 1d8+1 (5 hp); Initiative: +2; Speed: 10 ft, fly 80 ft; AC: 14 (+1 size, +2 dex, +1 natural); Attacks (Damage): Talons +3 (1d4); Space/Reach: 5 ft/5 ft; SQ: Low-light vision, Link, Share Spells; Saves: Fort +3, Ref +4, Will +2; Abilities: Str 10, Dex 15, Con 12, Int 2, Wis 14, Cha 6; Skills: Listen +2, Spot +14; Feats: Weapon Finesse; Tricks: Seek

I think this is correct but not one hundred percent sure so looking it over would be preferable to make sure I didnt forget something or misinterpret something. looking over past animal companion stats on the char info thread, the main thing i might have screwed up on is skills so that should probably be the main part to look at.

final thing: how do i rp meeting Maekka? i guess its that Tagg finds him in one of the eagle's habitated points and its friendly and things snowball from there.. or try something slightly more complicated than simply running into it, such as (exaggeration and quite stupid if i say so myself but its an example nonetheless) chasing a hoodlum through the city streets and the eagle dives in to stop the hoodlum. (*is amazed that he used the word hoodlum twice in one sentence*)

*the monetary amt is in effect after Tagg pays Mrs Weatherby belated rent

EDIT: ok again i am doubting my normally prepped spell choice. Now im considerig Speak with Animals. Ok i've swapped aronud like 3 choices so I think iwill just drop "normally prepared" for now. *deletes Normally Prepared Spell Section off update list*

I'm afraid not. It's a one-handed weapon, not a light weapon, and not one of the one-handed exceptions mentioned for that feat.

I sold the studded leather a long time ago bringing in 10 gp for myself. Then I finally paid the dwarf the money for the axe and shield also so here is my money and inventory after that.

Inventory:
Same as before minus the studded leather

Money:
Gp: 3554 (which includes my pay which was nothing)

Other than that everything looks good. Now I just need to finish making my axe. ;)

* Although Knowledge skills aren't has fully developed as they can be just yet, I think it might be approrpiate to assume DV has a +5 bonus to these skills when they relate to the Southlands, and that they are normal when applied elsewhere - like Garic's City. Since I hadn't developed much of DV's background at the time, I hadn't thought about taking them earlier - but they are somewhat critical to the character, and would help represent how DV can teach a class about military pike formations used by the Church Militia without any Knowledge skills what-so-ever. DV knew absolutely nothing about these skills as they related to Garic's City...

I don't foresee a lack of welcome, Cassius. We will need to work out the details of your absence, however. Either we ignore the fact that you'd been talking of seeking out a certain old keep (which has been looted since), or we have to explain where you went missing on that trip.

The easiest means are to have left Cassius finding employment through the Hightower for the last... good grief, it's been over a year, hasn't it? I'll PM you when we have details for you.

Perhaps it might be best to assume cassius did leave for the old keep but got distracted and ended up with his former master for a while, Rotharac of the Tower of elements, doing some more work on his Tattoo art and now he has simply returned home,

Or maybe thats to Blasee for you :D let me know what you've cooked up :D

Fund updates:
+4 gold (bought dinner and tea at LLI for 1 gp, paid rent [-3 gp] bought dinner at feast [-2 gp], +10 [hunt payment])

if applicable the following could be added to tagg's sheet:

Next to AC line:

Flat: 13, Touch: 14

Next to BAB line:

Grapple: +6

And something more of an optional variety, not necessarily put on the sheet but a possibly useful tidbit of info:

Typical Adventuring Equipment (light encumbrance; 53/58 lb.) (could use better title; basically a detailed list of what he would carry during an outing where he will be expecting to be gone from the city for longer than a day):

studded leather (worn, 20 lb.)
explorer's outfit (worn, 8 lb.)
silver bracelet (worn [left wrist], 0 lb.)

scimitar (left shoulder, 4 lb.)
short sword (belt right front, 2 lb.)
flask, full/water (belt left back, 2 lb.)
3 daggers (belt chest, 3 lb.)

composite shortbow (above backpack, 2 lb.)
quiver of 20 mundane arrows (right shoulder, 3 lb.)
backpack (center back, 2 lb.)
bedroll (below packpack, 5 lb.)

trail rations, 4 days (backpack, 4 lb.)
flint and steel (backpack, 0 lb.)

Typical Casual Equipment (light encumbrance; 7/58 lb.):
traveller's outfit (worn, 5 lb.)
silver bracelet (worn [left wrist], 0 lb.)
short sword (belt left, 2 lb.)

Typical Outing Equipment (light encumbrance, 44/58 lb.):
studded leather (worn, 20 lb.)
explorer's outfit (worn, 8 lb.)
silver bracelet (worn [left wrist], 0 lb.)

scimitar (left shoulder, 4 lb.)
short sword (belt right, 2 lb.)
flask, full/water (belt left, 2 lb.)

Level up information, thing, stuff, whatever.

+1 Sor level

+4,5 hp, putting total to 30 (+0,5)

BAB +1? Wait a second... it is already +4? How come? It should be +3 and now getting raised to +4.
+1 to Fort and Ref saves.

Defense score goes up by one point, so +1 to AC. (6th level char.)

Skills (3 points):
+1 to Knowledge (Arcana)
+1 to Knowledge (Religion)

Spells:
+1 to amount of castable lvl 1 spells per day.
Regain ability to cast Comprehend Language.

That should be it... oh, wait, a feat as well, I'm told.

Feat: Scribe Scroll

And some adjustments to Vareanin's stats as well:
+1 to Natural Armor Adj.
+1 to Int
And gain ability Deliver touch spells
Also some other Vareanin's stats will most probably change. Amount of hps, saves, attack bonuses and so on. Though, I remain mystified whether or not does the Clr levels count when calculating hitpoints for Vareanin.

Heh, well heres what you call dwarven bowling ;)

Rules: 4 dwarves to a team, each team has a small rock which they place on there side of the field, field is broken into 2 equal halves and each side gets a part of the field. Then each team takes turns trying to get each of their ball as close as possible to the oppositions smaller ball. But each person also has the option of taking there ball and hitting one of the opponents balls to knock it out of the way instead of trying to get their ball as close as possible to the opponents ball. Each person rotates turns. So one person on a team goes first, then the first person on the other team goes, and so on and so forth.

You play a series of 5 matches, where you determine the winner by whichever team has the most amount of close balls to there opponents smaller ball. Each ball must be in a range of 1 dwarf arm length. The ref will determine the arm length with his own arm, and will also determine the outcome of all matches and rounds.

That's pretty much up to you guys IC to decide. But it should be alright to leave them each with a half share. Maelut could say the adventure was to help his hometown, and Angeliqué could just take enough blood money to cover some expenses but turn down any more.

So it is easier for DMs to find. This is how the spoils were divided after the trip to the ruins.

After much discussion, the items are divided with Silmarwen getting the ring, Darkar the rapier, NaShae the glove, and Kywyn the bracers.

The wand stays in the possession of NaShae and Kywyn. Once the spellbook is assessed and sold, the money would go to compensate Darkar for the five hundred pieces spent on identifying the items, and one hundred to Kywyn for checking the ring.

The remainder of the coins would be split, with a portion added to Darkar and Silmarwen's share to compensate for the value of the wand. The pouch of twenty gold pieces and the vials of acid and anti-toxin would be thrown in as well.

Pausing from preparing her gear for the trip to Hardaja, Mirielle considers the question posed.

Hmm, alright, do it this way: add one level in Wizard. Then,
  • +4.5 HP
  • +1 to Fort and Reflex
  • +1 to Craft (Alchemy)
  • +1 to Concentration
  • +1 to Heal
  • +1 to Knowledge (Anatomy & Physiology)
  • +1 to Knowledge (Arcana)
  • +1 to Search
  • +1 to Spellcraft
  • Add Spell: Teleport
  • Add Spell: Waves of Fatigue
  • Add Spells per Day: +1 2nd, +2 5th

Ixchal chitters and dances around Miri's feet.

I wasn't forgetting you, Ix. He knows you get +1 to Natural Armor, and your Int goes up to 10, now. So you get to increase Listen and Spot!

Miri pets her familiar then excuses herself to finish packing.

You're in luck. There will be one available in three days, just as soon as they finish repairing some damage to the stock.

I haven't adjusted your funds for that, but I have deducted for the explorer's outfit. I've also added your five weeks of earnings for the bartending work, less 20% for expenses, which comes to 52 gold and 4 silver.

The PHB notes that summoning a mount is a conjuration (calling) effect, rather than (summoning), which means that Honor was actually killed, not just returned to his home plane. Note that the only time he leaves the gear he carries behind is if he's killed -- at any other time, the equipment vanishes with him.

Finally, there's this last sentence: "The paladin may not summon another mount for 30 days or until she gains a paladin level, whichever comes first, even if the mount is somehow returned from the dead."

That last part ("...even if the mount is somehow returned from the dead.") indicates that the creature is not automatically raised after 30 days.Threfdil has the option of making arrangements for raising the bear, and may even choose to take another mount in the meantime (once the "30 days or new level" terms are met), releasing the new mount from service when he restores Honor. (He may also choose to raise Honor but not regain his service as a mount, if you wish.)

I was going to list all the changes that I needed to make, but I saw that you already made most of them. So here are the ones you need:

I'll get +1 Stength for the 8th level ability Score
And I'll spend 1 rank in these three skills: Craft (Armorsmith) and Craft (Weaponsmith) and Spot.

I chose spot since I don't think i can put ranks into a cross class skill when adding a new class, if I can put ranks into something else then put them into jump.

And with my new addition to the Craft skill, I would earn 26 gp per week, minus whatever the SSAG takes out. (can you put this somewhere on my sheet please, it would help me out a little.)

Thanks :D

Earnings will be based on general, not specific, use of Craft skills, so there is no need for a Craft check to do the work. I simplified this system so that players with Craft, Perform, or Profession skills would not have to ask for a check every time they used the skill to earn an income (or create an item).

Unless there's a specific reason for making a check on the spot, Esmet's Craft check for bow or arrowmaking is always a 17 as long as she has a +7 modifer on the check.

Assume that arrows have the same Craft DC as bows, just to keep it simple. I guess someone thought arrows were too easy to make to deserve a DC or something.

I hope this helps you and a few others who might have a similar question. If not, I'm sure I'll read more discussion of the subject on Noise from the greater populace. ;)

Perhaps they'll have some small need for it.

ST/Sche:

You mine as well subtract like 25 sp or something like that for buying ale over the past months...... just a heads up, don't want to be getting free ale ;)

Edit: Oh and I also noticed that you still have that ring I got off the troll as unidentified, well I got it identified a while ago as a ring of jumping (+5) so you can edit that in whenever you get the chance.

Edit2: I looked over my character sheet and found out that I hate the background that I wrote for him originally so can you please change it to this:

Aramil Dunksar hails from a long line of the clan Dunskar in a very prosperous dwarven kingdom not far from Garic’s City. Even though his family is famous in his kingdom, he felt the urge that he was destined for something more so he decided that he wanted to explore the outside world with the "elves" and humans and other races to make his family name known throughout the whole land. Aramil is a fighter which is the typical type of character in his family, he was trained by his father, and his father was trained by his father before him, and there secrets in battle were passed down through the generations and Aramil hopes that one day he’ll be able to pass them down to his own children.

Another tradition taught by his father and that has been passed down from generation to generation has been their secrets for crafting magnificent items. Aramil learned the basics of this while he was still in his home but when he left he took part of it wih him and decided to take that much he knew and develop it in his own way and form to hopefully match his fathers craftsmanship.

On the day Aramil decided to start his lifelong adventure, his father gave him a ring with the family crest so the people can recognize Aramil after the great many deeds he will accomplish. The family crest is a warhammer criss-crossed with a dwarven waraxe symbolizing their ability to fight and forge.

Aramil is as tall as a normal dwarf and has fiery red hair that is starting to go a little white. No one knows why this is happening at such an early age. Maybe it is because he doesn't always get that much sleep since he adventures more then the normal dwarf, but he never really complains about it. He seems to be always rested whenever you see him around. His favorite weapon to fight with is the Waraxe that his father had taught him how to craft and also the axe that his father gave to him while he was learning how to fight. He also likes to use his bow occasionally just to pick of enemys from a distance or if he is forced to use it when he doesn’t have his axe or hammer. He is friendly to everyone he meats unless they are unfriendly to him though he occasionally dosen't get a long with elves but that is just because his father taught him to be like that, but this trait is slowly dissapearing in Aramil. He will often share some of his tailes about his father whenever someone might want to listen, most of the time he tends to listen to people rather then speak his mind, but when he wants to say something, he does.

He is now adventuring to the town of Garic city to start his adventure because he heard many things about this city and people going there from different places in the lands, each earning their own respect and reputation. This is the first of his many adventures…

Thanks, Remember you can take your time updating this stuff, it doesn't have to be right away, whenever you have time. ;)

Folks, while I appreciate the updates, may I please ask you all to e-mail them to me next time? I'd prefer to save this for rules-related questions, now that we don't have the option of deleting posts that have been addressed.

If it's up there already, you don't need to e-mail me, though. I'll get to it sometime in the next day.

Okay Jace desires to attain. A Silver longsword. According to the DMG it is +90 gp for a one handed weapon. 90+15=105...93 of that is the trade in. so that leaves a balance of 12 gp. Leaving Jaces gold funds at 122 gp, meanings how it was at 134.

134+93(commision)-115gp(silver L-sword)=122gp

I do belive that all that is right.

A single thought is but a moments existence, the foundation on which all boundaries are made. Grasping at the numerous impulses we cannot comprehend the many we cannot catch and fill this in with what we expect. In a single thought carries the power to more correctly balance the mind, and better sift our current environment of what is most important.

That single thought is the consciousness, holding such power to question that all things become possible. More so than the cliché suggests we are truly masters of our own realities. A thought's value cannot be weighed, just as all that is cannot exist without. Therefore, in a moment a thought brings all to be.

This leaves a lot of things less to coincidence than we may sometimes perceive.

Embrace each moment as a lover, expecting nothing more of it than the gift of it's existence. There are many techniques in learning to channel moments, and their effects are exponential.

Oh ho ho! Nanashi gains strength! Another level of cleric gives him 7 more hp, +1 on BAB and +1 on Reflex saves. He will also take Skill Focus (Intimidate) as his new feat and add a skill point each to Bluff, Concentration and Intimidate. If Nanashi read the rules right, he now gets to treat Bluff and Intimidate as class skills too! He will usually prepare Cure Moderate Wounds and Undetectable Alignment as his new 2nd level spells.

Nanashi, you might have missed this, but you can't perform any bardic music without at least three ranks in a single Perform skill. Did you want to rearrange your skill points to allow that?

Because they've got focus components, you'll need to buy a spell component pouch to cast open/close or message. You may also want to consider a change of armor at some point, as you've got a 25% chance of arcane spell failure in scale mail.

Just a few points I thought I should bring to your attention. ;)

Just to let you guys know, I will not be reuniting with Aramil after the sewer adventures go down to bring back the bodies. So just to let you know that. However my last wish from a dead dwarf would be to have a nice funeral for that, and to somehow have word be sent to his family in the mountains....

I'll PM you guys to let you know my new character idea, and if it's alright to actually make a new character. :D

-Aramil

(P.S. With the Exemplary Elf substitute at 10th level, why does it seem to me that it is underpowered compared to the others. Seeing as how it only gets a special ability at 14 and 18, while the other races get one at 12, 15, and 18. I don't know if it was meant this way, or you just couldn't think of anything else to give them. Please let me know. Thanks.)

Ok.... disreguard my last statement, I'll bring back Aramil and Oskar, and Aramil will go under the reanimation thing, and the level he losses will be his dwarven defender level, seeing as how he won't be a dwarf again ;)

Oh and this also means that you can disreguard my last pm to you guys... Thanks

There's been a slight change in pricing guidelines for the consumable goods. For the feat in question, the cost of the tattoo is three times that of a scroll, but we've changed the cost of scrolls (as well as potions and wands) according to this chart (which can be found in Information and Rules under the entry for Magic):

<br /> Level Cost Scroll Potion Wand<br /> <br /> 0 5 12.5 25 375<br /> 1 2.5 5 75<br /> 1 10 25 50 750<br /> 2 5 10 150<br /> 2 40 100 200 3000 <br /> 8 20 40 600 <br /> 3 70 175 350 5250 <br /> 14 35 70 1050<br /> 4 200 500 na 15000<br /> 40 100 3000<br /> 5 260 650 na<br /> 52 130 <br /> 6 320 800 <br /> 64 160 <br /> 7 570 1425<br /> 114 285 <br /> 8 660 1650<br /> 132 330 <br /> 9 750 2025<br /> 150 375

All right. I keep looking at it, and the changes don't improve much. 8th level paladin really doesn't have a lot.

Threfdil Proudfoot, 8th level paladin
Ability Boost: Strength (to 12/+1)

HP 57 + 7.5 = 64.5
BAB goes to +8/+3.
Melee: +9
Ranged: +8
Thrown: +9
Grapple: +5
Saves: Fort +15, Ref +7, Will +8 (+10 v fear)

Attacks:
+1 Greatsword +10 Melee (1d10+2)
longsword +9 (1d6+1, 19-20/x2 crit)
dagger +9* melee or +10* ranged (1d3+1, 19-20/x2 crit, 10' range increment)
sap +9 (1d4+1 subdual)

Skill Points: 2 Points to learn Auran (If approved) or Knowledge (Planes) 1 rank...

No new features, but...
Smite to +8 to damage.
Lay on Hands to 32 points of healing
Turn Undead 7/Day as 5th level cleric (damage now 2d6+9)
Spells: Caster Level 4. Normal Preparation Bless, Divine Favor

HONOR:
2 more HD (+9 HP, BAB gains +2, all saves gain +1, Natural Armor +2, Strength +2, Int +1, Speed +10 feet.) Hit Dice give him new feat, he will take Multiattack (only -2 penalty on bite instead of -5). Also 2 skill points, 1 to Listen and 1 to Spot.

That should be everything.

Cassius is studying the 5th lvl spell break enchantment and after that he's going to make 4 vials of alchemists fire if he can find the materials

Could I get a succes check on learning the spell (not writing itin his spellbook just yet) and an estimate of the costs for the alchemists fire
#425

shatteredtower

Oct 26, 2005 21:07:27
DC to understand break enchantment: 15 +5 (spell level) = 20

Spellcraft check: 6 (d20 result) +14 modifier = 20

Success.

(Note that Hightower does charge a fee for books copied from their library on top of the normal cost of copying a spell into your spellbook. However, while the going rate is an extra 50 gp per page, they only charge 20 gp per page. This results in a total cost of 120 gp per page copied by members and 150 gp for anyone else -- or for copying from a wizard's personal collection.)

~~~
Cost of alchemist's fire: 1/3 of 20 gp or 6 gp, 6 sp, and 7 cp
Craft DC to create: 20
Cassius' Craft check: 24
Craft check x DC = 20 x 24 = 480 sp (48 gp) of work per week.
Cassius can create two flasks of alchemist's fire per week at a cost of 13 gp, 3 sp, and 4 cp. After two weeks, he will have four flasks for a cost of 26 gp, 6 sp, and 8 cp.
While it will likely be acceptable to finish a week's work while still in contact with Darkar and the others, they are not caught up to the point where Cassius could have completed two weeks work. You may wish to hold off on the second week of work to keep you free for interaction in this regard.
Bear's Endurance
Heh heh. That's a good one. ;)
Speaking of which, did I get extra skill points and a feat once I became a human?
Not retroactively, I'm afraid. Sorry. You've got the stonecunning, combat bonuses, and Craft modifiers to make up for it, though.
However, I have to point out a few things about the spell selection. Oskar does not need to prepare cure spells because he can replace a prepared spell with one spontaneously. Likewise, we've eliminated bonus domain slots and replaced them with the option to spontaneously cast domain spells, so he doesn't need to prepare bull's strength (a Strength domain spell) either.
That would be fine in these circumstances. By the way, if you're making the cloak yourself, rather than hiring someone to do it for you, the cost is 500 gp, half the listed cost of the finished item.
