Pleae keep in mind that this thread has not been opened for posting yet. If this should change, an announcement will be posted here to state who may post, how, and when. It is not a Q&A thread - that's what the DM thread and Noise are for.

Most of you will remember this thread, opened by Gerug, with the assistance of Natala, under a charter granted to them by shanks to report on significant events that characters should be aware of, and to provide a forum for DM announcements. Later, Hermy, assisted heavily by Scheherazade, took over the task.

One thing has become apparent: this is a monumental assignment. Keeping up with the assignment cuts heavily into one's posting time, especially with the volume of material there is to read. (And if there are players who think there's too much too read after a few days away, show some compassion for your DMs, who still have to try to keep up with all of it.) However, this thread does serve a purpose - it helps us better build and maintain a continuity. It's important for a player to have an idea of things that might have occured and left signs, gossip, or consequences in the marketplace, or the Last Lich Inn, or the Temple of Agathalos.

Sometimes not knowing can lead to amusing situations, such as the time that the Frail walked obliviously through the city on the Night of Shadows. Ryo even worked in an explanation of how she managed not to notice, something he might not have done if it hadn't been reported. Other times, a record could help use to avoid large continuity errors, such as occured when the Jackals became a celibate order, a situation that didn't jibe with Tao's relationship with Treble. (Later, this was rescinded for the higher ranks, which got Tao off the hook, but didn't explain how Treble was allowed to have a relationship with her.)

So now I've overexplained the why. I'm going to continue by proposing two ideas for the how. Please get up and grab a glass of water or stretch your legs before reading on - I need you to be paying full attention.

There are two ways we could do this from now on.

We can appoint specific people to review specific threads for us. This didn't work out so well when it was tried by Gerug, however - neither of the two individuals he tried this with were able to keep reporting on threads in a timely manner, and eventually he had to write up reports on all of the threads for the week himself anyway.

The alternative is that we get players to report their activities on a weekly basis. If you were playing for stakes at one of the inns, if you broke a window at one of the boarding houses, if you were beaten by a mob, made a major (or otherwise notable) purchase, tried to meet with the Lords of the City, cast a spell in a public place, renewed a casting license, spent the last five weeks working as a caravan guard or apprentice to a local smith, painted your true love's name on the city walls (especially in large letters), wandered through the middens (so that it will take days before you scrub the smell off), attempted a break-in, or performed before a crowd, we need to know.

(Yes, sometimes we may even have to say, "No, you will have to edit that action. Mistress Gottrisdottir was not at your door asking if she could persuade you to contribute to a church bake sale. Don't delete it, change it to something a little more plausible. Perhaps one of the acolytes has been sent around to gather old clothing for one of the church's charitible functions? Maybe someone just came to report that someone had egged your house?)

My concern with that is that posting in this thread could quickly explode, so I would ask that each player only create one post here, and edit it every time that they had something to add. Don't delete information (though you may update it), but do include a note of the date (regular calendar) on which an event took place, and in what thread(s).

Eventually, people will reach that 50,000 character limit, but it will take a long time. (For a rough idea of how long, that monster post of the fight between the SSAG and some trolll ran over 26,866 characters. The post you are reading right now is in the area of 5,000 characters long.) That's when you can start a new post, or possibly begin condensing. But I want us to keep the post count down as much as possible. Report updates, which I ask you to make once a week, in Noise (which was designed to keep expanding), and I recommend including a small note at the bottom of your GCD post that reads: "Updated:" with the date of your last update. These steps will make the process easier for everyone.

In addition, DM announcements will go here. This is one reason why I'm opening this thread today, in fact. Rules changes will first be posted to this thread, so that all are made aware of them, and then will be added to the relevant section of the Information thread. I'd also like for the level awards to be posted here as well, to keep our number of threads down, but that's not critical at this time.

Hopefully, this thread will once again serve a useful function, but without burning out a small number of players who try to keep up with the lot of you. It's going to need your cooperation, however.

Thank you.

And now the announcement that explains why I've opened this thread. At the bottom of this post, I am including a list of PCs and how 3.5 will affect them. A few names were left off this list for now, as the players have been absent (or mostly absent) for some time. This doesn't mean that they aren't affected by the changes (or that they are no longer in the game), just that I've typed enough for this weekend and will get to them when they get to me.

Several characters (namely Aramil, Aria, Darkar, and Kelly) lose a feat, because it is either rolled into another feat or the feat is taken over by a racial trait. This means that these players all get to select one new feat from the 3.5 list.

After conferrring with Scheherazade, we both felt that it would be only fair to allow all players in the game the option to trade in one feat for a new feat that has been added in the 3.5 PHB, subject to DM approval. Not every change will be approved, especially if you are looking to exchange a feat which you have benefitted from on a regular basis. However, I know that some people are no longer impressed with Spell Focus, for example, and though Skill Focus has increased from +2 to +3, a few people might feel that the reason they selected that feat is now better described by one of the feats that grants +2 to two skills. E-mail both DMs your request for a feat exchange, keeping in mind that a few players might not get to trade in any feats and that you are not required to switch a feat.

I do have to note one thing, however: the feat Natural Spell is not available in this game. My apologies to the druids, but your DMs don't find this an acceptable feat. No one blames you for wanting it, but we've chosen not to allow it here.

This is also a limited time offer, good until the end of August, let's say.

Several skills have been eliminated. Ideally, the skill points from those skills should go to related skills - for instance, Intuit Direction skill points can be used to buy ranks or cross-class ranks in Survival. However, we recognize that this isn't appropriate for every character, and will be open to discussion of more suitable allocations. NaShae, for example, might feel that it's appropriate to spend some those points from Intuit Direction and Scry on Bluff, as there are several reasons it is an appropriate skill for her character to have. The synergy bonuses for Diplomacy and Initimidate checks, the necessity to keep herself hidden from her family for so long, her membership in the Avowed - all practically beg for ranks in Bluff, which is now a class skill for sorcerers.

(I'm not insisting that you take ranks in Bluff, NaShae. I'm sure you can think of other ways to allocate them. I'm merely using your character to demonstrate an example, because it is so effective in this one.)

As with feats, requests for skill point reassignment should be e-mailed to both DMs, preferablly in the same e-mail that asked for the feat exchange. Don't start that e-mail just yet, though - there may be a few other changes you wish to send along.

Let's get to the biggie:

Spells.

Several spells have switched level recently. Message is now a cantrip - a welcome bonus for every wizard in the game (and NaShae). The direct damage Conjuration spells tend to bypass spell resistance now, and a lot of Necromancy doesn't care what your saving throw modifier is. And take a good look at shocking grasp.

However, sleep doesn't have the same drawing power it used to, and hold person is worse. Spider climb is now a 2nd level spell, and clairaudience/clairvoyance now has a range and much longer casting time. (At 400' +40'/level, however, it is still perfectly capable of meeting most of your needs.)

With the exception of A'mok, who will have to relinquish the ability to use spider climb for now, the wizards will be keeping the spells they have in their spellbook. Levels and effects will change, both good and bad. Believe me, you've all seen a few spells get a nice boost, so the declines won't hurt you that much. (Even the reduced effect of sleep isn't crippling, just frustrating for those who got used to it the other way, when it might affect up to 8 HD of creatures on a lucky roll.)

The sorcerers and bards, on the other hand, are going to have a few spells that will need to be switched (or replaced entirely - bards lose both mage armor and magic weapon), since they don't have the luxury to rearrange spell levels in a spellbook. We know that, in a few cases, requests will be made to take spells more relevant to the character.

For the most part, we'll be handling this by allowing the character to switch out spells retroactively, as though they had taken the option at level 4, 6, and 8 for a sorcerer and at levels 4 and 7 for a bard. Don't feel limited to that when you discuss changes, but please understand that we will need to approve all changes of this nature. (Changing out spells for future levels will also have to be okayed. I'd prefer for us to come up with plausible reasons for why Kywyn, for example, suddenly finds that he can no longer boost his manual dexterity, but is suddenly able to strike another person blind with a touch. It could very well be two separate reasons, and I believe that it can be explained satisfactorily, but I'd prefer that we worked it out in private discussion first.)

The only spell we are modifying from the 3.5 standard at present (but there are a few more we will have to make rulings on in the future - these will be discussed with arcane casters when they are selected, and if the changes are unsatisfactory, we will allow the player to instead make another choice) is hold person. I will make a note of that in the Informaton thread when I have a chance, but for now, anyone capable of casting any of the hold spells should refer to Ashina's entry on the list below.

When are these changes coming into effect? For the SSAG, it will be when they return from the field. For the rest of you, give us until next Monday, which is when we hope you'll have e-mailed us about the modifications you've requested or had to make in your PC.

And now, the list of changes for each character, in alphabetical order, starting with Amarandios and working down to Tynk.

Amarandios:
  • The Travel domain now grants Survival as a class skill, not Wilderness Lore.
  • Skill Focus now grants a +3 to the selected skill.
  • Bards gain 2 extra skill points per bard level, which gives Amarandios 8 more points.
  • Bards don't suffer arcane spell failure casting bard spells in light armor now, but it still applies to shields and to medium or heavy armor. Bards are no longer proficient with medium armor.
  • Bards are proficient with all simple weapons, plus the longsword, rapier, sap, short sword, shortbow, and whip.
  • I'll have to review his list of spells, because I don't recall what he's selected at 1st level. So far, it looks unchanged.

A'mok:
  • While the favoured class for gnome is now bard, A'mok keeps illusionist as his favoured class.
  • Gnomes now gain gnomish hooked hammer as a martial proficiency.
  • Weapons are sized to the wielder now, but the weapon equivalency rules on pg. 27 of the DMG are in effect.
  • The DC of illusion spells cast by gnomes now receives a +1 modifier, which stacks with Spell Focus.
  • Spell-like abilities for gnomes are now Charisma-based.
  • Alchemy becomes Craft (alchemy) - and this character's cross-class ranks become class ranks.
  • Wilderness Lore becomes Survival.
  • Intuit Direction no longer exists: 3 skill points selected as a barbarian must be reassigned.
  • Divination can no longer be taken as a restricted school by specialists, and A'mok will have to choose another school, as well as Necromancy. Taking into account his spells, it can't be Conjuration (he has mage armor), Evocation (magic missile), or Transmutation (enlarge), which leaves him a choice between Abjuration or Enchantment.
  • There are two new cantrips, but only one is available to him - acid splash. Furthermore, the spell message is now a cantrip, not a 1st level spell.
  • Color spray's range is shortened to a 15' cone, rather than a cone with a range of 25' +5/2 levels. However, it now affects all targets within that cone (Will save negates), rather than just 1d6.
  • Spider Climb becomes a 2nd level spell. A'mok will have to select another 1st level spell to take its place.

Anaya:
  • Elves are now proficient with longsword and rapier.
  • Druids may use any weapon without penalty to class abilities, though non-proficiency penalties still apply. Certain forms of armor and non-wooden shields are still forbidden, however.
  • Animal Empathy disappears as a class skill, freeing up 4 ranks to assign elsewhere. Instead, Anaya gains the wild empathy class feature, which allows her to make a "Diplomacy" check (1d20 + druid level + Cha modifer) to improve the attitude of an animal or (with a -4 penalty) magical beast. It still takes roughly a minute of interaction before the check is made, in most cases.
  • Druidic nature sense now grants a +2 to Knowledge (nature) and Survival checks.
  • If Screech is still her animal companion, he is an owl with the following changes: HD 3 (13 hp), AC: 20 (+2 size, +3 Dex, +2 natural), talons +8 melee (1d4-3), Str: 5, Dex: 18, add one feat and two skill points.
  • Druids may pontaneously cast summon nature's ally spells.
  • Intuit Direction is gone, and the skill point assigned to it may be distributed elsewhere.
  • Profession (herbalist) no longer gives a +2 bonus to Heal checks. Since the profession was likely chosen with that synergy bonus in mind, however, we shall allow this character to keep it.
  • Wilderness Lore has become Survival.

Aramil:
  • Dwarven speed is 20', but they maintain that speed even in heavy armor carrying up to a heavy load.
  • Dwarves treats the dwarven waraxe and urgrosh as martial weapons, not exotic ones. In light of this adjustment, Aramil may select a new feat.
  • Dwarves gain a +4 bonus on ability checks to avoid being bull-rushed or tripped, but only when standing on the ground.
  • The +2 bonus on Appraise checks now applies to stone or metal items, not rare or exotic goods.

Aria:
  • Ambidexterity and Two Weapon Fighting are being rolled together, leaving Aria with an open feat.
  • Expertise has been renamed Combat Expertise.
  • Weapon Finesse now applies to all light weapons, the rapier, unarmed strike, whip, and spiked chain.
  • Intimidate is no longer be a cross-class skill for fighters, which increases her modifier in the skill by +1.

Aric:
  • A 3rd level barbarian has a +1 modifier on "trap sense."
  • Intuit Direction is no more, leaving Aric 1 point to reassign to another skill.
  • Wilderness Lore becomes Survival.

Ashina:
  • Bards gain 2 extra skill points per bard level, which gives Ashina 20 more points.
  • Bards don't suffer arcane spell failure casting bard spells in light armor, but it still applies to shields and to medium or heavy armor. Bards are no longer proficient with medium armor.
  • Bards are proficient with all simple weapons, plus the longsword, rapier, sap, short sword, shortbow, and whip.
  • Perform functions more like Profession or Craft; Ashina will have to decide how she wishes to assign ranks to cover the categories she's selected under the heading of Perform.
  • Cause fear is just a little bit better (Will save partial rather than Will negates).
  • Tasha's Hideous Laughter, which was as a 2nd level spell, becomes a 1st level spell for bards. Ashina will take it in a 1st level slot, replacing protection from evil and leaving her an open 2nd level spell slot.
  • Cat's grace now has a duration measured in minutes, not hours.
  • Invisibility has had its duration reduced 90%, to 1 minute/level.
  • Hold person has changed, however, GsC will be playing that change in a modified form. Where the spell now reads, "Each round on its turn, the subject may attempt a new saving throw to end the effect," change this to read, "Each round on its turn, the subject may attempt a new saving throw to resist the effect," followed by the parenthesized section, and then, "Success means that the creature may now move as though affected by the spell slow until hold person's duration expires."

Brodda:
  • Dwarven speed is 20', but they maintain that speed even in heavy armor carrying up to a heavy load.
  • The dwarven waraxe and urgrosh are martial weapons for dwarves, not exotic ones. As a bard, Brodda would need to spend a feat to become proficient with them either way.
  • Dwarves gain a +4 bonus on ability checks to avoid being bull-rushed or tripped, but only when standing on the ground.
  • The +2 bonus on Appraise checks now applies to stone or metal items, not rare or exotic goods.
  • Bards gain 2 extra skill points per level, giving Brodda 16 extra skill points.
  • Mage armor is no longer a spell on the bard spell lists. This gives Brodda an unfilled 1st level spell slot.
  • Sleep has a full round casting time, smaller area of effect, and a cap of 4 HD of creatures.
  • Cat's grace has a duration of 1 minute/level, rather than 1 hour/level.

Burleg:
  • Burleg will retain his hp and skill point totals as they are now. Future levels of ranger will earn 4.5 hp (plus his Con bonus) and 6 skill points (minus his Int penalty) per level.
  • Dwarven speed is 20', but they maintain that speed even in heavy armor carrying up to a heavy load.
  • The dwarven waraxe and urgrosh are martial weapons for dwarves, not exotic ones.
  • Dwarves gain a +4 bonus on ability checks to avoid being bull-rushed or tripped, but only when standing on the ground.
  • The +2 bonus on Appraise checks now applies to stone or metal items, not rare or exotic goods.
  • Burleg's Reflex save increases to a base of +4 (or +6 with Dex modifier).
  • Rangers now gain wild empathy as druids do, allowing Burleg a "Diplomacy" check to improve the attitude of animals toward him, much like Anaya gets.
  • Rangers gain Endurance as a bonus feat at 3rd level. (There have been modifications to this feat since 3.0.)
  • Ranger's of 4th level may have an animal companion, which will be Hodge for Burleg. (Refer to pg. 36 of the PHB for animal companions, remembering to count only half of Burleg's ranger levels for this purpose.)
  • Favoured enemy bonuses work differently, and are more significant. They apply to the same skills, but the damage bonus now applies even to creatures that are immune to critical hits. Burleg's bonus for giants will be +4, and +2 for magical beasts.
  • Wilderness Lore becomes Survival.

Codrian:
  • Half-elves get a +2 modifier to Diplomacy and Gather Information checks. (There may be exceptions to this rule, particularly when dealing with Burleg. ;))
  • Bluff is not cross-class for sorcerers anymore, which results in Codrian's modifier for the skill increasing to +5.
  • Intuit Direction is gone. Codrian gains 2 skill points to spend elsewhere.
  • Codrian's familiar grants him a +3 bonus on Appraise checks, but Vareanin does not speak a language. Furthermore, as a familiar with 5 HD, Vareanin gains one feats, subject to DM approval.

Darkar:
  • Darkar gains trap sense +1, a dodge bonus to AC or to his Reflex save vs. traps.
  • Ambidexterity and Two Weapon Fighting are being rolled together, leaving Darkar with an open feat.
  • Weapon Finesse applies to all light weapons, as well as rapier, unarmed strike, whip, and spiked chain.
  • Pick Pocket becomes Sleight of Hand.

Donnavin:
  • Donnavin's 4 ranks in Animal Empathy may be redistributed to other skills. Instead he gets wild empathy, as per Anaya and Burleg.
  • As a ranger, Donnavin now gains a +2 bonus vs. his favoured enemy (goblinoids), not a +1.
  • Donnavin's base Reflex save is +3 (+5 with Dex modifier).
  • Donnavin loses 3 hp, bringing him to 42, but gains 2 skill points per ranger level (6). (He may choose to not make this retroactive adjustment to hp and skill points, but it will apply to all future ranger levels.)
  • Rangers of 2nd level or higher choose between two combat styles - archery or two-weapon combat.
  • Intuit Direction is gone, giving Donnavin another 4 skill points to redistribute.
  • Wilderness Lore becomes Survival.

Ely:
  • The separate unarmed attack bonus section has been eliminated and replaced with the flurry of blows base attack bonus, which is an option available with unarmed strikes, monk weapons, or the quarterstaff.
  • At 1st level, monks are now giving the choice between Improved Grapple or Stunning Fist as a bonus feat. (Stunning Fist works a little differently for the monk than it does for other classes.)
  • At 2nd level, there is a choice is between Combat Reflexes and Deflect Arrows (which is a slightly better feat now).

Fern:
  • Fern is still an elf, and thus proficient with all bows. As a bard, she's also proficient with all simple weapons, as well as the longsword, rapier, sap, short sword, shortbow, and whip.
  • Bards are no longer proficient with medium armor, but don't suffer the risk of arcane spell failure in light armor. Arcane spell failure is still a risk while using a shield.
  • Picket Pocket becomes Sleight of Hand, Wilderness Lore becomes Survival.
  • Invisibility's duration drops 90%, to 1 minute/level.

Gamis: :
  • The paladin now radiates goodness relative to his level just the same as a cleric does.
  • Gamis may now smite evil twice per day.
  • Aura of courage has been clarified such that the paladin gains no benefit from it in an antimagic shell.
  • While special mounts now stay for only one hour/level each day, an exemption has been granted to Gamis, on the basis of how long he's taken care of Valor.
  • Speaking of Valor, the improvement in HD is worth an extra feat and four skill points to the mount - since all animals get them that way now. Feat and skill selection will be subject to DM approval.
  • Five ranks in Knowledge (religion) grant a +2 synergy bonus on checks to turn undead.
  • Sense Motive is now a class skill for paladins, which will bump his current +5 modifier to a +9, and will serve to grant him a +2 synergy bonus to Diplomacy checks, giving him a +13 modifier there.

Hermy:
  • As a 9th level rogue, Hermy gains a trap sense modifier of +3.
  • Pick Pocket becomes Sleight of Hand.
  • Weapons are sized to the wielder now. The variant for Weapon Equivalencies found on page 27 of the DMG is also in effect.

Jaer:
  • Weapons are sized to the wielder now (see Hermy).
  • Druids gain spontaneous casting of summon nature's ally spells as a class feature.
  • Animal Empathy is replaced by the class feature wild empathy (1d20 + class level +Cha).
  • Blight, Jaer's animal companion is a wolf with these changes: HD 4, AC: 17 (+3 Dex, +4 natural), bite +6 melee (1d6+2), Str 14, Dex 16, two bonus tricks; SQ: link, share spells, evasion. Blight also gains one feat and 2 skill points.
  • Jaer gains a +2 bonus on Knowledge (nature) and Survival skill checks.
  • Ride is now a class skill for druids, and thus Jaer's Ride modifier increases to +8.
  • Wilderness Lore is now Survival.

Kai:

Ambidexterity becomes Two Weapon Fighting.

Kal-Zakkath:
  • Kal's base Reflex save increases to +4, or +7 with Dex modifier.
  • His hp total drops by 5 to 25, and he gains 14 skill points. Optionally, he may keep the hp he has now and waive the extra skill points, but future ranger levels grant 4.5 hp and 6 skill points per level, rather than 5.5 and 4, respectively.
  • Rangers now gain wild empathy as druids do, allowing him a "Diplomacy" check to improve the attitude of animals toward him, much like Anaya gets.
  • Rangers get the Endurance feat at 3rd level.
  • Ranger's of 4th level may have an animal companion. (Refer to pg. 36 of the PHB for animal companions, remembering to count only half of Kal's ranger levels for this purpose.)
  • Favoured enemy bonuses work differently, and are more significant. They apply to the same skills, but the damage bonus now applies even to creatures immune to critical hits. His bonus for orcs is +2.

Kelly:

Ambidexterity and Two Weapon Fighting are combined as one feat, leaving this character an open feat.

Kieran Whitehall:
  • Spell Focus only grants a +1 to save DC for the named school now.
  • Alchemy becomes Craft (alchemy)
  • Scry has been eliminated as a skill, leaving Kieran 3 ranks to spend elsewhere.
  • Knowledge (arcana) gives a +2 synergy bonus to Spellcraft.
  • There are two new cantrips - acid splash and touch of fatigue. Furthermore, the spell message is now a cantrip, not a 1st level spell.
  • Burning hands is a 15' cone instead of a 10' radius semicircle.
  • Color spray's range is shortened to a 15' cone, rather than a cone with a range of 25' +5/2 levels. However, it now affects all targets within that cone (Will save negates), rather than just 1d6.
  • Identify now functions on only a single item per casting, but it determines all magical properties of an item, including the number of charges it contains (if any) and how to activate its properties.
  • Obscuring mist loses a bit of its radius to become a 20' spread, rather than 30'.
  • Shocking grasp gets a serious upgrade, from 1d8 hp of electrical damage +1 hp/caster level (+20 maximum) to 1d6 hp of damage/caster level, to a maximum of 5d6 at 5th level. A 1st level caster loses a little something, but after that it offers a lot of incentive to keep it on your spell list.

Kywyn:
  • The Scry skill no longer exists, leaving Kywyn 1 rank to be reassigned
  • Weapon Finesse now applies to all light weapons, rapier, unarmed strike, whip, and spiked chain.
  • Endure elements has a greatly reduced effect.
  • The duration of Cat's grace is now measured in minutes, rather than hours.
  • False life will replace endurance on Kywyn's spell list, since it is a better reflection of the character's abilities.

Mirielle:
  • Alchemy becomes Craft (alchemy).
  • Five ranks in Knowledge (anatomy and physiology) will grant Mirielle a synergy bonus of +2 to Heal checks, subject to approval.
  • The Scry skill no longer exists, leaving Mirielle 8 skill points to spend elsewhere.
  • There are two new cantrips - acid splash and touch of fatigue. Furthermore, the spell message is now a cantrip, not a 1st level spell.
  • Cause fear gains a saving throw adjustment (Will partial rather than Will negates).
  • Identify now functions on only a single item per casting, but it determines all magical properties of an item, including the number of charges it contains (if any) and how to activate its properties.
  • Obscuring mist is now a 20' radius spread, not 30'.
  • Sleep takes a full round to cast, and affects up to 4 HD of creatures within a 10' radius burst.
  • Greater magic weapon grants +1 enchancement per 4 levels, instead of every 3 now, unless one is using it to create a permanent magic item, where the bonus remains +1 per 3 levels.
  • Melf's acid arrow now bypasses spell resistance. The way spell immunity works for a few creatures has likewise changed (golems are a biggie here), making this an even more potent spell.
  • Protection from arrows now offers a flat DR 10/magic against ranged weapons.
  • Sleet storm no longer allows a saving throw; instead, it requires Balance checks.
  • Summon swarm has changed to make use of swarm rules from the MM. ("Be afraid. Be very afraid.")
  • Familiars do not gain skill points with level advancement - this is covered under the heading of familiars on page 52. However, a familiar will gain one feat for every 3 HD. Ixcal's bonus feats are Stealthy and Toughness. ("Evil beware!")

NaShae:
  • Rogues lose uncanny dodge (Dex bonus to AC) at 3rd level, getting trap sense +1 instead.
  • Intuit Direction no longer exists, giving NaShae 3 rogue skill points to spend elsewhere.
  • The Scry skill no longer exits, giving NaShae 3 sorcerer skill points to spend elsewhere.
  • Message is now a cantrip, not a 1st level spell. NaShae may remove one of her other cantrips and replace it with this one, allowing her to make another 1st level spell selection, or she may choose to continue to leave this spell in a 1st level slot (and use it as a level 0 spell, giving her greater flexibility to emply it).
  • Sleep takes a full round to cast, and affects up to 4 HD of creatures within a 10' radius burst.
  • Tasha's hideous laughter lasts 1 round/level, instead of 1d3 rounds.
  • Clairaudience/clairvoyance now functions only to long range (400' + 40'/level) and takes 10 minutes to cast, not one action.
  • Palasha grants NaShae an additional +3 on Spot checks in daylight hours. Furthermore, as a familiar with 6 HD, Palasha gains two feats, subject to DM approval.

Ran:
  • A 6th level monk may choose either Improved Disarm or Improved Trip as a bonus feat. Ran has selected the former.
  • Ran's base attack bonus is now the same for armed attacks as well as unarmed attacks (+4), though when he fights unarmed or with monk weapons (including quarterstaff) he may perform a flurry of blows with a base attack bonus of +3/+3. (Previously, this was +4/+1.)
  • Ran's unarmed attacks are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of bypassing damage reduction.
  • The bonus a monk gains to movement is now treated as an enhancement bonus, meaning that it won't stack with other enhancement bonuses. It is no longer treated as a supernatural ability at higher levels, meaning that it never becomes subject to the effects of an antimagic shell.
  • Knowledge (religion) has been added to the list of class skills for the monk.

Sensandela:
  • Bards gain 2 extra skill points per bard level, which gives Amarandios 8 more points.
  • Sensandela has Perform ranks in three categories - drama belongs to Perform (act), singing to Perform (sing), and pan flute to Perform (wind instrument), and will need to rearrange her ranks in Perform to cover these choices individually rather than under a single Perform heaing.
  • Bards don't suffer arcane spell failure casting bard spells in light armor now, but it still applies to shields and to medium or heavy armor. Bards are no longer proficient with medium armor.
  • Bards are now proficient with all simple weapons, plus the longsword, rapier, sap, short sword, shortbow, and whip.
  • Dancing lights no longer grants a saving throw, since it is now an Evocation (Light) spell, rather than an Illusion (Figment).
  • Feather fall now lists the target as "One Medium or smaller free-falling object or creature/level, no two of which may be more than 20 feet apart," with calculations for larger targets as well.

Tahlin:
  • Tahlin's base Reflex save increases to +4, or +8 with Dex modifier.
  • Tahlin loses 6 hp, dropping to 31.
36 of the PHB for animal companions, remembering to count only half of Tahlin's ranger levels for this purpose.)
  • Favoured enemy bonuses work differently, and are more significant. They apply to the same skills, but the damage bonus now applies even to creatures immune to critical hits. Tahlin gains a +2 bonus against bother orcs and humans, with an extra +2 to be assigned permanently to either race.
  • Tahlin gains 16 skill points.
  • Wilderness Lore becomes Survival.

Tensek:
  • Increase base Reflex save to +3, or +6 with Dex modifier.
  • Hit points drop to 8. As Tensek is a 1st level ranger, we will be playing him strictly by 3.5 policy.
  • Rangers now gain wild empathy as druids do, allowing him a "Diplomacy" check to improve the attitude of animals toward him, much like Anaya gets.
  • Favoured enemy bonus increases to +2.
  • This character does not have the combat style clas feature yet - that comes at 2nd level.

Tharokke:

As a 3rd level barbarian, Tharokke gains "trap sense +1."

Thosar Lueque (Ivan):
  • As Thosar no longer has a dwarven build, he now suffers movement penalties for medium or heavy armor or loads normally.
  • The dwarven waraxe and urgrosh as martial weapons for dwarves (and Thosar), not exotic ones.
  • Thosar doesn't get the dwarven +4 bonus on ability checks to avoid being bull-rushed or tripped.
  • The +2 bonus on Appraise checks now applies to stone or metal items, not rare or exotic goods.

Tynk:
  • Alchemy becomes Craft (alchemy).
  • Knowledge (arcana) grants Tynk a +2 synergy bonus to Spellcraft checks.
  • Knowledge (engineering) becomes Knowledge (architecture and engineering), and grants Tynk a +2 synergy bonus to find secret doors and similar compartments.
  • Knowledge (geography) grants Tynk a +2 synergy bonus on Survival checks to keep from getting lost or for avoiding hazards.
  • Knowledge (history) leads me to wonder why Tynk didn't choose to be a bard in the first place. ;)
  • There are two new cantrips - acid splash and touch of fatigue. Furthermore, the spell message is now a cantrip, not a 1st level spell.
  • Color spray's range is shortened to a 15' cone, rather than a cone with a range of 25' +5/2 levels. However, it now affects all targets within that cone (Will save negates), rather than just 1d6.
  • Expeditious retreat increases base land speed, but no other form of movement, such as climbing, flying, or swimming, by 30' (an enhancement bonus). Jumping distances are affected by the increased speed.
  • Identify now functions on only a single item per casting, but it determines all magical properties of an item, including the number of charges it contains (if any) and how to activate its properties.
  • Jump grants a +10 enhancement bonus on Jump checks, not +30, though it does increase to +10 at 5th and +30 at 9th level.
  • Sleep takes a full round to cast, and affects up to 4 HD of creatures within a 10' radius burst.
  • Spider Climb is now a 2nd level spell, and the climb rate is now listed at a speed of 20', with no run movement permitted. However, it now notes that the recipient retains Dex bonus to AC and opponents gain to no bonus to attack the climber.
  • Cat's grace now has its duration measured in minutes, not hours.
  • Invisibility's duration has been reduced by 90% to 1 minute/level.
  • Haste affects 1 individual/level, not just one recipient, but the benefits have been greatly reduced. (Tynk may be reconsidering this spell, as he was not aware of the changes coming to it. Since he has not had time to update his spellbook and access this spell, the change is acceptable.)

Nitpicker review welcome (in Noise, please), to prevent ambiguous wording that could be abused.

Entertainer (submitted by Ashina Warrich)

Benefit: Select two Perform categories (act, comedy, dance, keyboard instruments, oratory, percussion instruments, string instruments, wind instruments, or sing). You receive a +2 bonus to Perform checks in both of those categories.

Special: This feat may be taken multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to two new categories of the Perform skill.

Actually, no, not yet, but I may do bookkeeping through this post for earnings.

Okay, folks, tell us what you did this week, but remember:

  • Each player is to create just one post here, and edit it to add new events as they occur.
  • Please don't delete information (updating it is fine).
  • Please include a note of the date (regular calendar) on which an event took place, and in what thread(s).

I hope to edit into this post an announcement concerning your earning potential as craftsmen and professionals later today, but it might take me another week. I've already spent a few months trying to figure out where I went wrong on a few paths, and then 3.5 made a few changes on me. (You might like one or two.)

In other words, keep an eye on this space. I'll mention that in Noise, as well. ;)

Having returned to the city from the March on Hent Manavalins, Mirielle and Gamis dusted their house.

On 5 August 03, Mirielle delivered a report of the March to Master Cione in the Hightower and began dissection of the creature given to her by Darkar. NaShae & Kywyn found her there and enlisted her help in deciphering the notes brought back from Ennorath, with hopes of curing Lady Ch'radryn.

Mirielle returned to her house in Elsewhere and buried herself in research.

Mirielle and Gamis delivered the distressing news to NaShae and Kywyn (14 Aug, the Market) that the cure for Lady Ch'radryn will require -- for starters! -- a 1/5 measure of mummy dust. Being pressed for details (17 Aug, the LLI), Miri reluctantly admitted that Lady Ch'radryn could possibly become one of the undead if a cure is not provided.

Updated September 1st

Lucian Risk - 6 Aug 03 - 10 Aug 03

At The Market Lucian eyed up potential customers. He spyed an armoured dwarf, and introduced himself to Aramil, saying that he is an actor. Lucian hired Aramil to make him a dagger, one can never have too many daggers, to be picked up in just over a week. After a breif conversation, Lucian had decided that it would be a good thing to get a look around the guild, perhaps his superiors may be interested in the guild later.

Deciding that The Market was too warm for his liking and he would probably make a mistake if he tried anything, the rogue made his may Elsewhere to the park near Natala's shop. He spotted an elf walking through and decided to introduce himself. Anaya and the young Half-Elf made their way to The Blue Pumpkin where the two talked about themselves. Lucian again saying he is an unemployed actor, and learning Anaya is a caretaker of the woods. After dinner, Lucian excused himself and headed towards The Fox Boarding House A busy day for the young vagrant.

August 10th - September 1st.

Lucian has been busy during the time since our last encounter. While at the Fox Boarding House there was an altercation between Brodda and Kai. Lucian wasn't impressed with his threats or in her smoking while hiding. Mr. "M" (Lucian's Boss whose name I wont attempt to spell without looking at.) Sent Lucian out to try and befriend the dwarven bard.

The pair wandered Elsewhere in the city and agreed to meet for dinner after chatting on a few subjects including Lucian offering to find Brodda a job with the nobles of the city.

Lucian, being a tired vagrant, went back to The Fox Boarding House.

Upon waking very late in the day, Lucian dressed and made his way through Elsewhere and towards The Blue Pumpkin for dinner.

Lucian had not long to wait before Brodda arrived. The pair drank ale and ate good food, meanwhile, discussing many topics and letting a bit more about themselves be revealed. Lucian said to her he hadn't had the chance to talk to Mr.M while in all truth he had slept until about an hour before.

The pair finished up their meal and decided a walk would be good for two night owls like themselves. Brodda asked if Lucian if her knew a quiet spot. He suggested the river down in the warehouse district, Elsewhere in the city. Upon reaching the river, Lucian Said a bit more than he usually does about his past, and his parents being gone. Brodda jammed on her recorder. Lucian was quite touched and the two parted ways and he went back to The Fox Boarding House.

He woke in the morning to join Mr.M for Breakfast with Kai, learning of his skills with weapons, his habit for masks and his unstabillity. After breakfast Lucian had a chat with his boss, discussing a possible position for Kai, both agreeing he was too unsubtle for pretty much all delicate ops. They also discussed His friendship with the dwarven bardess. He was assigned to find out who she takes orders from. Lucian than left to pick up his dagger from Aramail.

At The Silver Sword Lucian entered and mosseyed around the lobby until Aramil came in. Lucian payed for the dagger and asked where he could get a sheath. [i]Aramil suggested The Iron Wolf. They parted ways, both happy.

~Time Warp~ [I was absent for over a week and in the hope of retaining sanity I have simply continued on like nothing happened.]

Lucian is run over by Tensek in The Market. Lucian was rather unimpressed, both by being run into and him not seeing it coming. The two talk for a while, about Tensek's coming to the city and of laws breifly. The two part ways on good terms.

Week of 4 Aug

Ran picks up his training with Zoli Rassul again and tries to figure out where he needs to direct his path from now on during the many hours of spare time he has since leaving his day job. He decides he wishes to learn to be a healer, a more pro-active skill to use instead of merely avoiding bringing harm to others (a sometimes impossible task for one lacking wisdom beyond that of a novice). The monk seeks out Natala in hopes of her either becoming his tutor or recommending him to the clergy as one worthy of being schooled in medicine, but is told by her apprentice Tynk that she has many other things occupying her at the moment.

Week of 11 Aug

Natala agrees to take Ran on as a student, taking time around noon every day to initiate the monk in the healing arts. The elf spends part of his savings on a healer's bag and some basic tools, with the intent of adding to those as his skill grows. Aside from these lessons - and time spent studying and practicing afterwards - Ran keeps up with his training at Zoli Rassul's and spends his evening working at the Last Lich.

Weeks of 18 & 25 Aug

Nothing but routine.

Week of 1 Sept

Ran continues majoring in Monk and minoring in Healing, but has time as well to find a student job to be fullfilled in the near future (transport stuff from point A to B without losing anything - how hard can it be?). He also meets a new tenant at Mrs Weatherby's boarding house, a woodsy elf by the name of Tagg, to whom he explains the finer points of becoming a Silver Sword.

51 weeks from Sept 2003 to the end of Aug 2004

Lots of things. Too many to tell. Ahem. :embarrass

Week of 30 Aug 2004

Ran leaves with Hermy, Kywyn and Minto to return Hermy Woodhome Sr. to Garic's City.

Week of August 4th

Tynk returned from defending the pass and set straight to work catching up on his studies, finishing old projects, and starting new ones.

In the first few days, he worked on the Tanglefoot at Natala's and helped her clean and re-open the shop for buisness. He also spent some time training at the SSAG and had a brief conversation with Aramil while observing the dwarf at work on a dagger.

Later in the week, he spent a good deal of time watching Natala's shop while setting the tanglefoot to a one-week cooling and settling period. While she was gone with many other guild-members to the church, he and Thosar had a quiet conversation over a couple cups of Elfmist tea.

Later that night, he returned to the Hightower and completed his studies on Item creation and started drawing up diagrams detailing the creation of a masterwork Balista...

The last few days he copied two new spells into his spellbook (Haste and Major Image), as well as completed the Balista diagrams all on top of his regular studies. Near the end of the week, he made a presentatin to the Hightower officials on his discovery of new techniques to cast and act defensively in combat, as well as described his philosephy on the matter.

Week of Aug. 18th-31st

Having finally finished a most difficult tanglefoot, he sets to work on producing a handful of sunrods to replace Natala's ebding supply. He continues on this throughout the week, happy to be working on something more simple and productive.

Aside from regular activities, he picks back up on his workouts at the SSAG in the late afternoon after work. He is sure to keep up with studies, and does research on arcanic empathic links and different uses of protective magical energies on his limited spare time.

The last few days he attended a meeting at the SSAG and joined on one of two expedition s...he immediately sets to researching the area and geography he will be traveling to, as well as does some shoping to prepare for the journey.

With any spare time he has he attempts to look up any historical data on the fortress his group will arrive at.

Many days spent on the journey to and within the Dark Castle (Darkar's Revenge)

Week of Nov. 25th

Returning from the dreaded castle with Darkar et al, Tynk sets to identifying many items from a very large accumulated treasure. This treasure proves much more than useful in attaining the MW alchemists lab he has been aiming for.

He trades in the spellbooks recovered for access to them, page-inscription credit (6 pages), and 1200gp.

He also added the spell "Circle Pro. Evil/Good/Law/Chaos" to his spellbook, and spent a day discussing an electrifying dream with Natala at her shop (to be posted).

Week of Dec. 2nd

Tynk finally gets to buying that alchemist's lab and finishing the work on the "Fly" spell. He takes the spell for a test-cast and comes back with a smile and ruffled hair. The lab sits un-used at Natala's.

Tynk put to use the making of scrolls...something neglected until now. [Scrolls made: Spider Climb (LV: 3), Detect Magic (LV:1), Detect Poison (LV: 1)]

On the third-day Tynk spent most of it desiphering the spell Protection from Energy out of the brass-book recovered from the dark castle. He was successful in this endevour (thanks to a roll from Hermy).

Week of Dec 9th

After starting and finishing copying the spell (see above, pages paid out of credit), Tynk spent a lot of time catching up with chores and studies. Also, he completes the setup of the alchemedic lab, whcih is now ready to use.

Darkar expressed to him his desire for a pair of enchanted gloves, which Tynk does the neccesary research on while the elf attains a pair to match his liking. The final day Tynk spent researching another spell out of the brass book to add to his spellbook.

Kai

AUG 8th-14th 2003
Kai finallly reaches the Fox Boarding House. But as soon as he arrives, hes pushedto the ground by Brodda . Overwhelmed with anger, he almost guts her, but at Mundavai's request he leaves her be and enters the building. After some questioning by Mundavai , he's aloud to stay.

NOV 2nd-6th 2003
He begins his training with the Striker's. Tareh, a little girl who seems to able to open Kai up to conversation, takes him out to the market square to give him a look on how the operation works. She questions Kai on what he could bring to the Strikers, he replies "Death".

NOV 7th-10th 2003
Tareh's tour leads Kai to an old friends shop. Not finding Natala there, Kai leaves and meets back up with the young girl. She finally takes him to the "Strikers" safe place. Once the two resume to the Fox Boarding House, the elf makes his way to his room to wait for his assignment. Later on that evening a knock is sounded at his door. Finding Lucian with a pair of glasses and ale he is asked to join him. Unfortunatly for Lucian, Kai is not a very social person but still allows access to his room. "What is it you want from me?" Kai states

NOV 20th-30th 2003
During the unwelcomed visit, Lucian proposed for a partnership between the two. After some consideration, Kai agreed, only to help serve his own purpose. Soon afterwards, the elf recieved his first mission as a Striker. It seems that a baker hasn't been paying the appropiate protection money and Kai is to remind him. Notifying Lucian, the two set out to gather more information.

DEC 2003-JUL 2004
The duo teamed up with two people, Tensek the hunter, and Sensandela the uhhh...anyways, the teaming up with people Kai know nothing of wasn't exactly the wisest choice Lucian made. The elf endured, and started his first mission. After tailing the baker, the group made their move the next day, all the while lying to the the half-orc who in turn never trusted Lucian, Tensek and especially Kai. After some form changing, distractions, and some more lies, Kai finally was able to get his warning across to the baker in a way that Mundavai himself may not have expected. With a final look back, the masked elf shook his head and closed the door to the room where the baker's wife stood, knees shaking on top of a chair with a rope tied to her neck with just enough slack to breath. Her mufffled cries followed the elf as he slowly walked away from the room. Kai could not help but get the feeling he was'nt only leaving the women to her fate but was also leaving the remanents of his old self. Nothing else matters to him, only that those who wronged him will recieve their punishment and the road towards that goal will be littered with corpses if the need be.

After a long and venturous journey to her mentor and father's home she sought out guidance and found more than that. She aquired the ability to gain her elven form back, something that she had desired to obtain ever since she was brought back from the darkness.

Nodbody's Inn (7-24-03)
Coming back to the city was the easy part, but what things lay ahead for her may be the hardest. Not sure on how to face those whom she owes an eternal debt..she set off to Nobody's Inn, a place with fond memories and the place that haunts her dreams.

With the memories of the place and the significance of it, she decided to stay. Her thoughts are on Kai..the lost soul that she hopes that she may be able one day heal...for he is the one that haunts her dreams at night.

Not too long after she had returned to the city she got a "phone call" from Verinal, one she hoped she would be able to face, but wasn't expecting to hear from so early in her return.

Avowed(7-25-03)
She set off to the establishment in which she was brought back and faced the man. More problems showed themselves..and a choice she may have to one day make was presented. The debt owed to her friends Shae and Kywyn for her ignorance may be something more pressing, but the question is how to fullfill it.

Elsewhere (8-02-03)
Even more things happened since her return to the city. A night walk in the city presented a figure among the shadows..though she never got a look at his face or find out who he may be. The thought still stands in the back of her mind.

New beginnings come new friends. Upon a walk to Natala's Mystic Shop she came across a half elf by the name of Lucian. He says that he is a freelancing actor and they talk about themselves during a meal at the Blue Pumpkin Inn

After departing, thoughts of the debt seep in and she goes to the temple of the Mother for guidance.

Nobody's
After the visit to the temple she heads back to Nobody's to rest. The next day she goes downstairs and finds Brodd talking to Marroc. They eventually share a table and a conversation. She know her from the encounter in the graveyard, but doesn't seem to get a hint of who she is..even the 'green eyes' doesn't give it away.

Natala's Mystic Shop
After talking with Brodda and seeing how upset Shae was she heads to Natala's for a well awaited visit. She finds out about Alissa and the moneys needed to raise her. They also talk about the situation between Shae and herself as well as the dreams she has been having.
(more to come)

(8-21-03)
- She heads to the Market to sell the black pearl. Gets 500 gold worth in diamonds ( to be picked up the next day) plus 25 gold for herself.
- Goes clothes shopping then heads to Iron Wolf to buy a set of leather armor, then heads back to Nobody's to work on her new bow and to rest
- Next morning: goes back to the market to pick up the diamonds
- Heads to the Temple of Ordo to make the donation and gets to give the diamonds to Father Camrun personally. She gives him her name to put down who the donation was from. Her name seems to catch his attention, though he doesn't say anything

8-22-03 thru 8-23-03
- SSAG: She visits the SSAG in search of Gamis and finds out that rumor is that she is dead, according to Tynk's note. They talk for a bit, she gets Gamis's address and also a new SSAG pin to replace the one she had lost.

8-24-03 thru 8-25-03
- After no luck that night after leaving the SSAG she heads back to the Inn to rest and tries again in the morning. Still having no luck she goes to the first place that comes to mind as to where Gamis would be at
- Temple of Ordo: She finds out that he is studying in the library and goes there. She syas her hello's and meeet's an elf she hasn't seen before, one by the name of Thosar, but before she is able to talk to Gamis, the Cleric Clarice pulls her and Thosar aside for a little quest through a labyrinth.
- She finds out that she has more in common with this mysterious elf than she would have thought and soon become good friends as they learn more about each other as the travel through the labyrinth...they also learn more about themselves.
- They head back to the library after finishing the maze and head back to the library. She asks Thosar to get Gamis for her so they can talk, but as he does..Shae pulls her aside to tell her that she isn't welcome in their room and that she has her own.
- Finally she is able to talk with Gamis and spills all. Filling Thosar in of all that she knows about Kai, and getting Gamis up to date. She is still in charge of looking after him and her mission is to find him and bring him home if possible. Marina seems to be the target of a future endeavour.
- After all is told, she asks Thosar out for a drink which he declines because of things he needs to do himself, but will take up the drink at a later date. They know they will be seeing more of each other in the future.
- She heads back home for a couple of drinks, some food and nice warm bath before heading to bed for the night.
As of December 15...
Alot has gone on since she returned to the boarding house. Verinal assigned a task for her to do while everyone was out on their own ventures to raise Alissa and help Shae with her mother's illness, but her task would be something more fitting. She was sent out to find a Manticore and bring it back Alive so that they could extract blood from it, to help in the aid of Shae's mother. She found herself a group and set out, found the manticore, and brought it back as hoped. The blood was extracted and the manticore free'd, but she still wanted to make sure everything was alright and found herself in a predicament. The manticore was loose, but hadn't left the area as of yet, and wasn't too happy with her or for what they did to it. She fled, but in the process was injured badly, changing back into her wolf form and found she was alot more of challenging meal for the manticore on wolf's paw then on elf's foot. Te manticore soon gave up, but not without a threat that they would meet again. Injured badly and without ability to enter back into the safety of the city should the manticore return, she found safety at her brother Jaer's camp and rested to let her wounds heal, returning back into the city at morning and back to the boarding house for a much needed bath.

Week of August 11th:
Brodda spies on the Fox Boarding House, keeping an eye out for a man in a mask. After a long wait, she finally spots him entering the boarding house and tackles him at the door, however making apologies for her "clumsiness". She is escorted away by a stranger named Lucian. They chat for a bit while walking, and Brodda tells him that she really needs some cash. Lucian promises to speak to someone about the possibility of hiring Brodda for her bardic talents.

When they split up, she heads to Nobody's, chats with Marroc, then with Anaya, who hints that they've met before, though Brodda is vexed that she can't remember it. (Of course, Anaya was a wolf at the time they met...)

Brodda and Lucian shared dinner at the Blue Pumpkin and discussed Brodda's "search" for a job, after which they went for a walk and Lucian was treated to a spectacular performance by the stars, the river, and Brodda's recorder.

Up to September 5th
Brodda is distracted from her mission to spy on the Masked Man (Kai) by Hermy and Minto, who need her help getting a mummy and some gold. She meets the others in the group, buys some supplies with Minto, and head out to the desert (see What a Butte-iful Mummy).

After returning from his heroic stand at the pass of Hent Manavelins, Hermy seeks out his new bride to finish his honeymoon.

It isn't until after an expensive shopping spree that he finds out his dear Alissa died while performing her own heroic quest.

Hermy asked for Natala's assistance in speakig with his departed love, and sought out his undead brother Kirby, for advise on wether he should bring her back to life.

The question still remains. (August 11)

Week of Aug 4

After returning from the mountains Thosar had a religious experience at the Temple of Ordemetrex [8-2-03, Temple of Ordeme] after which he cleaned himself up, got some sleep and headed over to Natala's shop, and ended up making some soup. [started on 8-5-03, NMS]

(Note: Because of a long pause in one thread, events of this week carried into the next. The following took place "in game" on the week of August 4th. The events of the week of August 10th are noted below.]

After that he headed on over to the SSAG to find out about lodgings and was directed to Mrs. Weatherby's Boarding House. [8-13-03, SSAG] After securing a room (6 gp) [8-13-03, Weatherby] there he finished out the week frequenting Natala's shop for religious direction and training with his weapons at the SSAG. (The last two details are his "regular" actions when a time warp occurs.)

Week of Aug 10th

Thosar's time contiuum was very messed up this week. He left word for Burleg Khan at the Last Lich Inn [8-14-03, LLI] and worked out at the SSAG [8-17-03, SSAG]. All other time was devoted to "regular" actions.

Aug 17th to the 25th

The contiuum is beginning to look good. Here's how it breaks down.

Thosar talks with Natala about religion, their relationship and has a card reading [8-21-03, NMS]. After that he heads over to the SSAG to train; He talks with Aramil and confuses him by speaking dwarven, then he shares a moment with his old friend Darkar [8-20-03, SSAG]. The two elves set out to find Aria and Hermy, worried about the state of affairs with Alissa being raised. They wander the streets for a while, talking with a poor man along the way and Thosar pays for some information (3 sp) [8-24-03, Elsewhere]. The information leads them to the Temple of Ordemetrex.

At the Temple, in the library, he meets Kywyn, NaShae and Anaya [8-24-03, ToO]. Mere moments later he is asked to walk the Labyrinth with Anaya by Clarice and learns about the elf-turned-wolf and also knowing oneself [8-24-03, ToO].

That night he says his first "official" prayer to Ordemetrex [8-26-03, WB].

Aug 26th to the 31st

To start the day out right Thosar heads over to the guild for some practice and ends up sparing with Aramil [8-26-03, SSAG] after which he attended the guild meeting. On his way home from the SSAG he ran into Burleg Kharn and hired him to search for a granite quarry (15 gp) [8-27-03, Elsewhere].

The next day he chopped some wood for Mrs. Weatherby [8-28-03, WB] and then went over to Natala's shop to purchase four sunrods, two vials of holy water and a holy symbol (8 gp) and ended up having a serious conversation with Natala about their relationship in which he kissed her [8-28-03, NMS]. After that he acquired a new heavy, wooden shield from the Iron Wolf (6 gp 3 sp) [8-31-03, IWA].

The spent the last part of the week preparing for the trip to the castle.

Sep 1st to the 8th

Headed off for Undeath Keep and got busy battling some bad guys.

Sep 9th to November 25th

Continued battling forces of undeath and evil in Undeath Keep.

November 25th

Arrived back in GsC.

Nov 26th to Dec 10th

After returning from the adventure to Undeath Keep Thosar spoke with Natala at the Last Lich (11-26-03, NMS-LLI) and spent one gold and five silver for the meal and drinks. While visiting her shop he was given back a potion (Nondetection) which Natala had identified for him (11-26-03, NMS). Next he did some chores around Mrs. Weatherby's Boarding House to make up for while he was gone (12-2-03 and 12-3-03, WBH). He also paid for four weeks of boarding, the three he was gone, plus the coming week (12 gp cost).

On his way to the temple he buys some new clothes (a new pair of trousers (dark brown), two shirts (light green and light brown), a new belt (brown) and a new cloak (dark green)) at a cost of two gold pieces plus two silver pieces for the runner (12-4-03). Next he dropped off his old suit of studded leather armor and his old warhammer at the SSAG to be donated (12-4-03, SSAG). After that he attended the ceremony to raise Alissa and prays for the strength of his friends (12-9-03, ToO).

Finally he returned to Mrs Weatherby's to rest and contemplate on what he should do next (12-9-03, WBH).

Dec 11th to Jan 9th

After pondering, Thosar decides to seek answers to some of his questions but has no luck at the Temple of Ordemetrex (12-11-03, ToO). He returns to Weatherby's and continues to work on some chores (12-17-03, WBH) for a day or so before he decides to go and see Natala again (12-18-03, NMS). Unfortunately she is busy so he leaves. He also paid for two weeks at Weatherby's (six gold pieces).

Over the next days he stays at Weatherby's getting his questions together and taking care of his equipment after his long journey.

Finally the cabin fever gets to him and he heads out to see Natala (1-9-04, WBH-NMS).

Jan 9th to March 17th

Not finding Natala at her shop (1-9-04, NMS) Thosar strikes up a conversation with Codrian instead. He learns about the cleric/mage and his life plans, after which the elf returns to Weatherby's for the night.

The next day he decides to head over to the SSAG for some training. Along the way he stops at the Iron Wolf to order some masterwork items (1-13-04, IWA). Continuing on to the SSAG he spares with a dummy (1-13-04, SSAG). Staying too late to get into Weatherby's he takes up lodging at the LLI that night. In the morning he heads over to the Market Square and runs into Gamis and walks over to the LLI for a chat (1-14-04, Market-LLI). After that he heads over to Weatherby's to speak with the proprietor (1-20-04, WBH).

A few days later the elf decides to go and check on the progress of his masterwork items, but on the way stops in the Market Square to find some stone for the out building he is making for Mrs. Weatherby (1-28-04, WBH;1-30-04, Market;1-30-04, IWA).

Later that day he does some combat solo sparing and heads to bed(1-30-04, WBH). A few days later he wonders through the Market Square thinking about the changes the city if going through (2-17-04, Market) and ends up at the Iron Wolf to pick up his shield (2-17-04, IWA).

A few days later Thosar is able to secure a piece of granite to work on from the merchant dwarf he had been speaking with about the stone for the out building. He also discovers some strange bumps on his feet (3-2-04, WBH). The next day, after a chat with Mrs. Weatherby he heads over to Natala's shop to ask about their trip to Clerihew and to see if she knows about the bumps (3-2-04 WBH-NMS). After talking with Natala he returned to Weatherby's for a good nights rest (3-4-04, WBH).

  • pg 23, 8/4/03--Gamis touches briefly on the events in the pass on the march and his newly-acquired acquaintence with Amarandios, but devotes most of this long-overdue entry in his journal to recording what he knows about Alissa's death, the potential of the younger Amberhawk sister being revived, and his own worry about what this has done for Aria's state of mind.
  • pg 24, 8/14/03 --The paladin reviews Natala's casting of speak with dead on Alissa's body and the ensuing discussion at the Temple of Ordemetrex and his thoughts on how it went, including Aria's reaction. He then considers what could happen and what might be done if he himself were to be slain.
  • pg 25, 8/22/03 --No news from Hermy or Aria, but Gamis does learn about what Miri's been working on at her desk for the past few days--the search for the cure for the ailing Lady Ch'radryn--and gets himself involved in looking for the first piece of the cure. He has a bit of a frustrating time in the Church and Temple libraries (fortunately, NaShae and Kywyn show up to help research) as he looks for anything dealing with mummies, and the distant Western Desert where a tomb containing one was found. As of the writing, he, NaShae, and Kywyn are still looking to solidify their leads in the libraries.
  • pg 26, 6/25/04 --Gamis catches up on events since his last entry--the trip to the Western Desert, the falling out with NaShae, Alissa's failed raising, Da'Vane returning, and the training of Jackals. He fills in background on the Flame in Hents Manavelins. The recent trip to Hardaja and the information gained there is covered in more detail, and he makes a note of Kywyn's note regarding Kai.

6th Aug Silmarwen arrives in GsC to and tracks down Darkar thanks to the directions given by NaShae while in the market. After introductions and living quarters obtained, the pair went to Last Litch for an early dinner. There they had the special and Silmarwen questioned Darkar about his life in the city. After the conversation they make their way to Natala's shop and currently are in a conversation about history in the making and the offer proposed to the Silver Sword.

19th Aug After the conversation with Natala, Darkar and Silmarwen return to the Jackal compound. Silmarwen starts researching in the library for information on Dread Heart and information on the castle where Darkar encountered the undead. Darkar goes on a mission for Lord Malifaeyr to watch the priests who are paying the ransom and release of Jackal prisoners. It is successful and 19 Jackals are recovered. The next day he goes to the temple of Ordemet to donate money for Alissa Woodholme. (8pp, 102gp, 10sp, and 200cp Darkar has 25pp and 1800gp(found notes gold from Khan's armor))

20th-24th Aug Looking for Hermy is harder than he thought. Darkar makes his way to the Silver Sword and starts a conversation with Thosar. However upon a simple handshake he finds out that his good friend Ivan has returned from death and now is the elf he sees before him. The two spend sometime catching up and then go in search of Hermy. Hours later they manage to track the halfling to the ToO. Plans are made in order to help Hermy in his time of need. Darkar returns to the Silver Sword and posts a notice for the members. Aric and Aramil show up and they have a disscussion about how they will be willing to help. Aric talks with Darkar about becoming a Jackal. Silmarwen spends time researching find information about the Quiscoth Path and the fortress that Darkar told her about. Still no word on Dread Heart though.

29th Aug - 29th NovRevenge Adventure

30th Nov - 8th DecSpent time catching up with work at the Jackal compound after the items recovered from the undead fortress were divided up. Sent lengthy report to Lord Malifayer about what happened on the mission and recommend that Aric join the Jackals.

Silmarwen has been in the Jackal library researching information about the Maw, and information about the names mentioned by Gaya Hoon in his letter.

Darkar talks to NaShae, Kywyn, and Miri about their successes to help NaShae's mother and helps them obtain the vial of blood from the manticore. This is Darkar's first time seeing such a beast.

Darkar stops by the Silver Sword and speaks with Volos about finding a valet. Volos promise to find him some names in a few days. Back at the compound NaShae and Kywyn drop by and inform him about Alissa's raising, and he agrees to go. Also they ask him to go with them to NaShae's hometown of Ennorath. He promises that Silmarwen will go and he will too if he has no pressing issues come up.

The ceremony takes place and Alissa is not allowed to return. This leaves many in shock and with a new profound sense of grief. Darkar sends Hermy and Aria a pie the next morning unsure of what to do in this situation.

It finally happened that the murderous merchant, Mercer was arraigned, tried, convicted and executed privately, as per the custom for people with some amount of money and power. Specifically, he was convicted for the murder of Zanderat the brewer, fleeing arrest, breaking into the Palace, and of destroying government documents.

Kenna, a former member of the city guard who went on the most successful killing spree against the Strikers to date, fared considerably better. Defended by the marvelously talented Dr. Freis Chandl of the Guild of Lawyers, Kenna was acquitted of all charges, including the murder of the town crier and of a Hightower student, by reason of magically induced insanity. She was taken to the Temple of Ordometrex and healed of her condition, which had been caused by a cursed cup, dubbed the Vampyric Grail by the arcanologists at the Hightower.

Shortly after the trial, the cup was stolen again, and is currently at large. Kenna went to live with her benefactress, the wealthy young noble, Valalena, who befriended her and provided for the cost her defense.

I would like to direct your notice to the fact that the Religion post on the Rules and Information has been signficantly tampered with. You may wish to take a look; I'm hoping that some of the alterations address issues too long ignored. Please be warned that what is revealed therein is not necessarily true. I have included conflicting versions of certain legends, and there is always the possibility that the truth lies somewhere in between them (or even outside of them altogether). There is also the possibility that other versions of the tales do exist, but please give me a heads-up if you wish to spring them on us.

There have been a number of changes, many of them necessary due to campaign evolution and small (or not so small) indiscrepancies that have crept into the game over time. A few of them are my fault, and for those, you have my apologies. I have, however, worked to prevent people from having to feel that anything they have posted before now has been made inaccurate. This hasn't always been easy, since the transition between ideas put forth by shanks, Gawain, Pi, and Rorshac haven't always meshed, and a few ideas have been introduced into the mix since then, with varying degrees of success.

(I won't call any of them failures just yet, because we aren't done with them. )

Note that I've included the issue of Knowledge checks within the text. This is something I think some of you will agree is overdue, but please understand that all such checks will be subject to DM adjudication. In a few cases, we might adjust the DC for a specific individual based on circumstances, just as I have done for certain items listed in the revision.

It is my goal to eventually work on lists for other Knowledge checks as well, so those of you with Knowledge (geography) have an idea of what you know about neighbouring communities, how far away they are, regional exports, rough population numbers, etc., while Knowledge (history) will actually be able to reveal a few incidents over the years and centuries.

Please bear with us, because both of those lists are going to take a staggering amount of work to set up. Knowledge (local) and (nobility) aren't going to be a picnic either, and those are off the top of my head. There's also the matter of the world map, which is starting to get more critical as people wander a bit further afield. (I think we've got most of the communities we need within a day or two of the city. Now we need to start nailing things down so that we don't have a deserts overlapping with swamps and major forests.

In any case, I hope the adjustments made to the religion thread are interesting, useful, and informative to you all. If there is a problem, please let me know (by e-mail, if I may ask a favour).

Please note that Garic's City will be under lockdown conditions from Monday, December 29th, until Monday, January 5th. There is an event planned, for those of you who will be around, and Noise is always open, but the rest of the city is down for the time being.

For the restless among you, consider it an opportunity to work with one another to prepare posts for release when lockdown is lifted. There's no harm in writing them in advance and posting them sometime after the boards get moving again.

In the meantime, the Information and Rules thread has just acquired a new section. Input is welcome (but not on that thread -- take it to Noise), and I'm sure there will be questions. I'll do my best to answer them.

The following feat has been reworded slightly, updating it to 3.5 rules. Thanks go to Lucian for spotting this.

From the entry on GsC-Specific Feats, Spells, PrCs, and Weapons

Double Weapon, General (Donnavin Snowolf): Select one of the following weapons made for a creature of your size category: glaive, guisarme, halberd, spear, or ranseur. You may use that weapon as a double weapon.

Prerequisites: Proficiency with the selected weapon, base attack bonus +1.
Benefit: You may use the selected weapon as a double weapon, causing normal damage with one end and bludgeoning damage for 1d6 hp (or 1d4 for a small wielder) for with the other, with a critical modifier of x2 for this secondary attack. The extra attack is treated as an attack from a light weapon in the off hand (add 1/2 your Strength bonus to damage), while the main attack is considered as a one-handed weapon (add the Strength bonus to damage, not 1.5 times the Strength bonus) when both ends are used in a given round.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time you take this feat, it applies to a new type of weapon. A fighter may select Double Weapon as a bonus fighter feat.

Hay its me, wow I just realized I've never posted here...

Journally thing. Sorry I don't have any dates, since it was a while ago. I intend to include dates as I update this post.

Way back last November
Boirin arvies in the the city and gets a job at Nobody's Inn as a bartender. He then goes off and has an adventure with Maelut the cook, Tagg the tracker, and Silis the spellslinger. We killed some goblins.

Later, like maybe a month
Boirin begins to become interested in joining the SSAG. So he goes and talks to Mirrielle Dyer and Gamis Pfaebin about joining. They put in a word for him to Hermy.

Right before my adventure
Boirin talks to Hermy about going off about being a part of the new Scouting group Hermy is creating. However Boirin has to run off to help Maelut clear out the kobalds in his hometown.

3/25/04 - 4/11/04
Boirin returns from his adventure in Sorat Arlon and spends 3 weeks not doing much. He then is invited by Aramil Dunskar to acompany the dwarf with Tagg and Ulerian, to help clear out a dwarven mine.

6/22/04
Well I got back from the shrine a couple days ago, I guess I should right what happened...

We showed up, went into the shrine, killed the monster thing. Unfortunately Ulerian died in the process, it was a shame but he got brought back by the clerics. Death doesn't seem to have changed him much though. As a reward I was given a couple potions by the clerics, one which heals wounds and one which protects me. We got back to the city and I'm afraid I acted pretty dumb in front of some dwarves, however we went bowling so everything is fine now. Maelut still doesn't seem to be at the inn, he still has one of my shirts, I'll have to get it back when he gets back.

7/03/04
Well I've been working at the inn for the last 5 weeks or so. I've made some Okay money and I spent some money. I bought myself some new clothes and ordered a pretty neat little crossbow. Anyway Marroc talked to me last night and showed me a into his office for the first time. In there was this handy little secret room with some locks to practice opening. It was pretty neat. Anyway Marroc told me that I could probably get into the SSAG now that I helped out Aramil.

7/10/04
I've just joined the guild, it seems like a pretty good place at least. I have my pin now and everything. I think my crossbow should be done by now, I'll go pick that up. Maelut isn't back yet, so no shirt yet. I heard hermy is running a sneak mission somewhere against some orcs. Maybe I'll try to get into that.

9/27/04
Wow its been awhile, what have I done since my las entry, well Maelut got back. And then Maelut, a priest named Gilgiga, a human named Jace, and I went on a little orc hunt. I ended up killing the most orcs of them all but I did need everyone else as a distraction so I could stab the orcs where it hurt. Well since then I haven't done much, until recently, when I got turned down for a mission in the desert and have since then been set up with a mission finding a thief whos been bothering the Jackels. I don't know how this will turn out but I hope we catch the bugger.

May 26: Came to Garic's city after a longlonglong treck, dead tied and looking for a place to stay. People wern't as nice as I hoped.

May 27: Met Deravnous, Maelut, and Marroc at Nobody's Inn. They seem like nice people. I bought an ale for 1cp.

May 28: Lack of sleep is overwhelming, I slept in the commons at the cost of 1sp. Thought about getting a job.

May 29: Slept all day

May: 30 Ate and reflled water skins at Nobody's (2gp, 2sp, 2cp). Went hunting, game around here promses to be good, cunning, smart, a tough hunt.
Later retuned to Nobodie's and gave my catch (two squirrells) to the chef for free, not worth selling. I witnessed Marroc and some ranger talking in the back office, looked important.

May 31: Went to the temple of Ordermetrex. Have a funny felling that the clerics there are more than they seem. Met a big oaf of a half orc, reminded me of the warrors back home. Seriously thinking of joing the church.

Joined the church, and have been living there for the past week or so. Had little time to write, been working for old Doc in the gardens. I've been makeing alot of new friends and learning alot about Ordermetrex.

Doc sent me out to meet some woman named Ard'nas to look for healing herbs. He said he would do it, but he's getting to old.

May 25-30: Dravenous first saw Garic's from Outside the Walls. Met Gilgiga, Marroc, and Ely at Nobody's Inn, but only got Gilgiga's name. Spent 7 sp at Nobody's Inn.

May 31 - June 6: Dravenous has discussion with Maelut at Nobody's Inn about Dravenous joining the guard, Marroc gave a warning to Dravenous that he should never come to the Inn in uniform. Maelut gave Dravenous a sandwich. Went the City Guard Chapterhouse and joined the guard. Was given equipment and shown his bunk by Corporal Tirsori. Then was taken to the Marketplace by Tirsori and told to be careful not to have his money taken.

June 7 - June 13: Went and saw the beautiful park by the Church of Agathalos and then saw the intimidating Hightower. After seeing most of the city Dravenous was taken back to the City Guard Chapterhouse where he was told to go to handle a disturbance at the Blue Pumpkin Inn between Pearl and Dennis.

June 14 - June 20: Talked to Pearl and Dennis at the Blue Pumpkin Inn. Talked Pearl out of attacking Dennis and told her to go home after listening to her talk for a while. Went to Dennis to talk to him about his drinking, but he didn't seem to have any desire to stop. Left to report this event at the City Guard Chapterhouse.

June 21 - June 27:

June 28 - July 4:

July 5 - July 11:

July 12 - July 18: After considering other options and also after a third failed attempt by Brand to break down the bathhouse door the two return to the main entrance.

July 19 - July 25: Brand and Dravenous go to the main entrance to the bathhouse to question the manager. Found out little more than she was angry with Brand and that they didn't see anyone use the tunnels. Noticed that she was hiding something, but couldn't figure out what.

July 26 - August 1: Finishing talking to the halfling woman at the bathhouse Brand and Dravenous started to find out what their next move will be. Dravenous suggested that they find the tunnel blocked by the rock above ground.

August 2 - August 8: Following the trail the team left Elsewhere in Garics and ended up an hour away by a river Beyond the Walls.

August 9 - August 15: Dravenous found tracks by the river leading to some rocks on a hill. Two seemed to be fake and Dravenous found a lever by the first one he examined. When pulled the rock retracted into the hill and Dravenous nearly was hit by a bladed pendulum trap. The entered the revealed cavern to find a burnt out firepit and a foul smelling pile of spoiled foods. On further examination of the firepit a trap door was discovered and, when opened, activated a trap causing the trap door to crush Dravenous.

August 16 - August 22: Brand searched the pit below using Dravenous' rope while Dravenous searched the refuse pile finding a body, several purses, and daggers. Brand found barrels and crates with foods. After returning to the city the two went straight toward the City Guard Chapterhouse. There the gave the body and items the brought back to some other guards. Later Dravenous filled out a report on the investigation. Was summoned with Brand into Captin Hunter's office a few weeks of light work. They were told that the body they found was Leon Schellinsinger's, youngest son of Warner Schellinsinger. Also they were informed that the cave was Leon's private storage area and that he had been selling the families wares down south. In exchange for not telling anyone of this case both Brand and Dravenous were given 50 gold coins, a masterwork dagger, a bar of chocolate, and a bottle of elven wine.

9/07/04-9/30/04

Fern re-appears, somewhat worse off for having spent the intervening months in the slums and streets.

[Following a group of Strikers to Caranbar Manor, she prevents one from escaping NaShae (who is posing as the Lady Calmoranna, a Striker agent); getting herself into a situation that involves the Strikers, the Avowed (though she doesn't know it), the Ayres, and an (as of yet) unidentified fourth party. Mundavai shows up and offers them a reasonable stipend (90gp/month) and benefits (excellent health insurance) if they are willing to continue the operation for him and return some of his people. They accept, though not without a few parting jabs at the first Striker they send back.]

10/01/04-10/31/04

Fern spends a day playing in the market and then wanders shantytown, giving some badly need food to a pair of half-elves (Leuthil and his sister), she then heads down to the river and spends some time playing her harp.

While wandering the streets Fern meets Kai.

[Fern and NaShae talk with Gabby (the second Striker) about the job, and their preference in drinking establishments. Payment is brought (along with a haridresser) and preperations are made for a dinner appointment with the Ayres. They arrive for the appointment and...]

Expenditures: -3cp

Income: [+90gp] +16sp

Currents Funds: [90gp] 16sp 12cp

Current Equipment:
Armor and Weapons: masterwork leather armor, rapier, daggers (7), throwing knives (4, treat as darts), sap, light crossbow and bolts (16)

Other Equipment: psaltery, harp, thieves' tools, traveler's outfit, spellcasting permit (levels 0-2), [Blue Cloak]

Current Appearance:
A thin half-orc with ragged black hair and pale blue, almost bluish silver, eyes stands before you. Her face and hands are smudged with dirt and she wears a tattered cloak that may once have been black over a swathe of dirty rags and poorly made clothes. If one were look closely enough it is clear that her rags conceal a suit of leather armor.
A battered and well used rapier rests at her hip, and while the casual observer could take her for nothing more than an adventurer down on her luck, an experienced eye might note that her equipment is in far better repair than her appearance would suggest. But then even the poorest of adventurers may take good care of her blade and armor in the hopes that she might find some profitable venture....

[A thin woman wearing somber colors and a well made suit of leather armor, an elegant blue cloak trails behind her with the hood kept up to hide her half-orc features. A number of blades hang from her belt, and while none are of exceptional make they are are well cared for.
When she speaks an astute listener might place her as a southern aristocrat, and should she choose to speak in elven her command of the language might make one wonder whether she is indeed the half-orc she appears to be. Her eyes in particular add to this question as they are silvery blue that is, at a guess, uncommon among both orcs and humans.]
