Welcome to the Bar! (Rooms to rent)

You enter a huge oval room. Bottles array the far wall behind a long, oak bar. Anyone pulling a stool up near the centre of the bar might notice where a square granite plate has set into the wood, into which has been engraved:

"In memory of Cog,
Founder of this inn,
Friend of this city,
Fallen, but never forgotten,
Fallen, but never to fade."

To the left of the main entrance are several booths, surrounded by heavy drapes that can be drawn for greater privacy. Each booth seats up to eight people, though they are often used as sleeping quarters at night.

Plays and other performances are sometimes presented on the inn's small stage, visible to the right of the entrance. A small alcove leads off the stage's right, connected to the main room by a bolted door. Stairs ascend over stage left to private rooms on the upper floors. The rest of the common room is taken up by tables and chairs, save for a small area near the entrance, which has been reserved for a dart board and some pool tables.

Large, enclosed stables, attended by a couple of hands, are found at the rear of the building.

Prices
Rooms
2 gp/night for one of the 18 private rooms
5 sp/night/person staying in the common room (booths)
2 sp/night/person sleeping in the stables

Daylight begins to fade when Xade, Aridar, Thomil, Karuil and Dorian enter the commonroom of the Last Lich. When the door closes behind him Dorian looks around the room, taking in the scenery. Beeing the outdoorsman he is, the city doesn't sit well on his nerves. One hand is on the handle of his large knife at all times

Xade turns around slowly taking in everything. The smell of cooking food triggers memories of home and he is easily more at ease than Dorian. He begins making small talk with the others about their favorite dishes to eat. He is so animated in the discussion, the halfling is easily ravenous just by thinking about food

Dorian smiles as the Halfling keeps going about food

"With your mind so bend on food master Halfling, what do you say that we arrange for ourselves a bite to eat first. That way we can plan our actions in the city over a good meal"

Dorian leads the group towards one of the tables and sits down motioning for the others to join him. Once seated he adressen Karuil

"Karuil, could you tell me is there is a weaponsmith in this city that is worth his salt? I'm working on a new arrowhead design and I would like to hear a proffesionals opinion on it."

Aridar follows the crew and takes a seat at the table after propping his spear in the corner. He quickly recognizes the staff currently working the floor but makes no move to greet any of them. Instead, he pulls out a small notebook and flips though several pages before stopping and reading where he left off.

"Mmm," Karuil says, pondering the question. "Maybe--"

"And what have you dragged into our place this time, Thomil?" declares a blonde woman, interupting the elf. Despite her words, she's obviously grinning.

"Ah, Lúthien," Karuil says, "Still as lovely as the dawn, I see."

"Ach, you old flatterer! Who are your new friends? Hullo, Karuil. Can I get you your usual?"

The female elf nods.

Xade turns to the hostess greeting Thomil. He is a bit confused to why she is grinning when she just accused him of dragging them in. When Karuil is done the halfling takes a moment to introduce himself before ordering food.

Greetings Lúthien, I am Xade. What would you recommend for dinner for a weary halfling? he says with a smile

"I think we might have just the thing, Xade," Lúthien tells him, "but I'd best check with Ab-well, look who we have here! Aridar, you rascal! I wasn't sure we'd ever see your face again!"

Thankfully, she seems happy enough to see it now. The sound of a glass being dropped by the bartender, an elf, suggests that the feeling might not be universal, however.

OoC
Aridar, I hope this suffices as an answer to your PM. Feel free to send another if it's not. I'm just short of time right now and felt I'd best get a post up first.

Aridar slowly looks up from his book, being careful not to glance in the direction of the bar.

A pleasure as always Lúthien.

While thumbing through the pages of the book, he takes a quick peek at the bartender then back to Lúthien.

I take it that everyone has been doing well, he says while shifting a bit in his chair.

Sits back while the others chat with their hostess, the comments about Aridar are not missed by the ranger and he arcs an eyebrow at the elf

"Well enough, Aridar," she answers, "Well enough. And what can I get for you -- and you, sir?"

Meanwhile, the fellow at the bar ignores a few jeering customers as he quietly goes about cleaning up the broken glass.

"Coming up!" Lúthien says before bustling off to the the kitchen. Everyone can make out shouting from behind the door, though not what. The bartender's pained expression suggests this event is an all-too familiar burden for him.

"She's quite good," Thoml says -- then, sensing confusion, adds, "The cook, that is. They say she can roast a pig with her only her temper, a few harsh words, and seasoning to taste. Findecáno! A bottle of your finest, if you please."

The elf at the bar nods, selects a bottle from the rack, and places it on the counter before moving to serve another customer.

"You expect me to come get it?" Thomil asks, mocking disbelief.

Findecáno just shrugs.

"Atrocious," says Thomil, shaking his head. "Pardon me a moment, fellows. Can I interest anyone else in a glass? The Last Lich prides itself on it's remarkable selection-- even if the service doesn't always meet the same standard!"

By the time Thomil's there, Findecáno has the glasses ready for him to take back with the wine.

satyre

Sep 13, 2007 12:36:54
Satyre sits at a table close to the stage with his friends. Originally the plan had been to grab a lunch and be on their way, but the staff was so kind and the decor very inviting. The bard had decided it better to convince his unkempt Halfling friend of the benefits of city life, sooner rather than latter.

"You see, Arvindur, at dusk the dinner crowd begins to fill the place quickly. No doubt the proprietor of this establishment has some form of play or other diversion to entertain. Is it not marvelous?!"

As he takes in the sights and sounds of the inn, the Half-Elf's thoughts drift back to the pleasant maid they had the pleasure to meet earlier in the day, Viola. He doesn't see her now, and instead begins to see if he recognizes any of the other patrons.

OoC
Spot +2. At the very least I might recognize someone from Ennorath, perhaps?

*Once they enter the Inn, Zade immediately orders some food for himself and his friends, and when it comes Zade doesn't talk for quite some time but stuffs his face with food, only stopping to take the occasional swig of drink. Finally after his 3rd or 4th helping Zade stops eating and sits back in his chair. With a happy expression on his face he quietly looks around the room watching the patrons until it becomes later on in the day.

"Well that was quite the meal if I say so myself, and this is a fine establishment to go along with it. I wouldn't mind staying in here for a while. No need to hurry back to the fort, it'll be there with or without us."

Aridar makes no effort to explain the past incident, instead he looks back down at the book and flips through a few pages. With a nod of thanks, the elf enjoys a glass of wine. Dorian listens to Thomils talk about the market and seems in doubt about the wine until Thomil makes his remark to Karuil, then he gracefully accepts the glass. At times he looks over at the elf and the halfling that Aridar pointed out.

"I don't remember seeing either of them at the guildhall but their demeanor is right. They could be members of the guild"

*Zade notices the expression on Satyres face as one of someone trying to look for someone in a crowd.

"Well my friend, is there someone your looking for? Perhaps I'll be able to find him or her, I sometimes have a knack for having a good eye for finding things."

*Zade gives Satyre a wink and waits for him to reply to his question.

"Oh, just our maid from earlier. Do not bother yourself with searching for her, probably gone for the night. Though I am sure you would find her without much trouble, master Zade. Actually, I was just thinking it strange I do not recognize those Elves sitting over there. The one reading a book is a bit odd."

Satyre takes the last sip of his glass and sets it down gently. He turns his head towards the nearest barmaid.

"Another glass, my sweet. Oh, and is there any entertainment planned for the evening?"

OoC
Spot +2, do I see the other group pointing at us? Not sure how subtle they were being about it. I knew it was a stetch that I'd recognize anyone from Ennorath, but no harm in trying.

After another sip of the wine, he leans back and crosses his leg. The sorcerer then rests the open book on his lap and takes another glance at the group.

The barmaid is not sure but assures Satyre that she will check for him. After she has gone, he turns to Arvindur. Chuckling slightly to see the famished Halfling stuff so much food into his gullet, he replies to his feral friend.

"HA! You might want to slow down, master Arvindur. I do believe you might be offending the sensibilities of our fellow patrons. See how the one Elf stares at your table manners?"

He nods to the bookworm Elf dressed in grey. Strangely enough, the oddness about the Elf in question is slowly turning to familiarity. For the life of him, Satyre can not place where he has seen this person before.
#31

arvindur

Sep 17, 2007 18:39:03
Mumbling unintelligibly around the food, Arvindur glups it down with more ale before looking about for the offended elf his friend just mentioned. "Don't see anyone offended enough to do something about it, I just like eating fast." He resumes demonstrating the famed halfling appetite, albeit at a somewhat slower pace.

*Zade smiles at his friends appetite, seeing as how he went through a lot of food in a quick time also. He looks over that the Elf that Satyre has mentioned and can't think of who he is or if he has ever seen him before, however dressed like he is, he is either someone of slight importance, or he belongs to something.

"You think he may be from the guild? I mean we are bound to see others from the guild sooner or later right? I doubt our good ol' captain would only send one party at a time..."

*Zade chuckles a bit at the picture in his mind of 50 guild members sitting around waiting for the party to return so they can head out.

The waitress returns to Satyre.

"Nothing planned for tonight, my dear," she tells him. "but maybe someone will surprise us."

She looks once around the table, then exclaims, "Well! You two must have been half starved to death! Can I get you anything else?"

===

Thomil laughs along with Xade; Karuil merely smiles.

"I wonder if they'll have any entertainment tonight?" Thomil muses, then changes the subject. "The half-elf? The one seated with the two halflings, you mean? Can't say we've met. How do you know him -- assuming he's who you think he is, of course."

"Thank you, love."

Satyre replies to the waitress upon her return. Then, Zade's jest makes the young bard smile.

"You are quite right, my friend. Perhaps these are fellow guild members. Well, no sense in sitting here in wonder, shall we introduce ourselves? Be wary though, they very well could be enemies of the Silver Sword."

Standing from his seat he motions for his friends to follow. Upon reaching the other table, Satyre bows deeply his hands flung out to either side in an over-the-top flare.

"Good evening to you, fellow patrons of this fine establishment. I am Satyre, Minstrel Extraordinare of the Royal Order of the Silver Sword. These are my comrades: Zade Deftfingers, Master of Daggers; and also Arvindur Leafchaser and Wolfrider!"

With his face only inches away from the bard's, Aridar stares deeply into Satyre's eyes before nodding. He then sits back down and looks back down at his book.

*Zade's expression becomes confused as the elven mage that we just met talks to Satyre like he's know him for years. Guessing by what he just said however he has known him for quite some time. Zade finds this very interesting, and wonders if Satyre indeed didn't know who these people were or was just lieing to Zade and Arvindur for some particular reason.

.oO(Perhaps I should start keeping a closer eye on Satyre for future purposes....)

*Zade makes a mental note of that and then he goes back to having a slight smile on his face and listens to the conversation between the elf and the half-elf.

satyre

Sep 20, 2007 12:47:08
For a moment, Satyre is actually silent. His eyes widen and his mouth drops as he remembers why this Elf had seemed Familiar. The astounded young bard reaches down and places his hand firmly on Aridar's shoulder.

"Ari, you magnificent Elf! What in Mother's name brings you to Garic's City, my old friend? You are looking very well, I might add. Liliana is looking well also, I hope? I have been very busy, I meant to write to her... I swear! Did you catch the part where I am in service to the Silver Sword? I am doing very well there, I should take you back to Fort Malifaeyr! You should sign up, you would like it, I am sure. Oh, and how is Kiriana? Still chasing butterflies I would gamble. Oh, it has been a long time, yes? What does bring you to the city, Ari?"

Satyre takes a deep breath.

"More wine!!"

After closing the book, Aridar leans to his right to see around Satyre. He then studies Zade's and Arvindur's face as if he just realized there were others besides the bard. After a nod to the both of them, the sorcerer sits back to address Satyre.

Satyre reaches behind him and pulls a chair up to the table. Taking his seat, he nods towards the others as they introduce themselves.

"So, Ari is silent in your company as well? I'm not surprised. When you have friends as amazing as I, it makes for a timid person. I jest, Aridar is a wise Elf and speaks only when pertinent."

Luthien arrives with a bottle of wine and some glasses. As she begins to pour out the drinks it occurs to Satyre that his friend did not answer his question about their presence in the city. He glances over at Thomil and his companion.

He is quite glad to have met others from the guild, however he still has not earned their trust, they can say they are a part of the guild, but who knows if they are lying or not. The only way to tell is if we all head back to the guild together and the captain knows them. If he doesn't know them, well then I'm sure it'll be an interesting day.

Oh, if I could but describe the scene with any sort of justice... Karuil and I, fighting back to back against a horde of skeletons, hopelessly outnumbered...

"You would have laughed to have seen how our assailants ran. A sharp word and a single shaft from Dorian d'Gray's bow sent them scattering to find a place to hide -- some open grave, no doubt. "Fire would be good yes, however skeletons don't have much in the way of flesh to burn. A good weapon like a mace or hammer would be more effective. Smash and break the bones so it is difficult for them to move about. Another problem is that fire doesn't always stop them from advancing. Then you have to worry about catching on fire too." "I'm a fair marksman with the bow, but as you can see I carry no sword.
I've sworn never to touch such a weapon. I do not put my trust in a tool whose only purpose is to kill and maim. I favor a good axe or spear in close combat, tools that are usefull when you have to survive in the wild as well. A spear, like a bow can help one to provide food and an axe goes a long way in building a shelter and other necessities. Work that would irreversibly damage a sword.."

Though Zade's first two shots land impressively close to one another, both strike just above the bullseye. The third shot also comes close, but arrives too low.

Zade can hear a sympathetic murmur from some of the gathered crowd.

"A valiant effort," Amras tells the halfling, "but unfortunate. I'd nevertheless prefer to avoid ever being the target of your aim. Karuil, I believe it is your turn again? Best two, this time."

The other elf retrieves the darts, sparing Zade a nod as she passes him. Taking her time, she places two darts close to the centre before finally scoring a bullseye with the third. This earns her some applause from Thomil, which she feigns to ignore.

"You can't ask for much better than that," Amras concedes, rushing for the board ahead of Dorian.

"You must excuse me, sir," he tells the human, "but your efforts last round so unnerved me that you simply must allow me to return the favour this time. Allow me."

And without waiting for a reply, Amras makes his first throw, settling the matter with another bullseye.

"There we go," he chirps. "Two more like- blast."

The second shot lands at the edge of the inner ring, leaving Karuil some room for hope. That hope dies quickly, however -- Amras lands his final shot dead centre.

"You've been no less worthy an opponent than the halfling, milady," he tells Karuil, "but it now comes down to your human friend and myself."

Turning to Dorian with a hint of amusement in his eye, he says, "I'll tell you what. If you beat all three of my shots this round, I'll concede the match and the prize here. If not... best of three next round."

In case anyone checks, there's no one visible near the entrance at the moment.

Listening carefully to the elf some questions form in his mind. Then he sees him look nervously at the entrance. Xade looks towards the entrance and sees the door. Slightly confused he wonders what the elf saw. It isn't like the door has moved closer or anything.

"If you don't know what it is then how will you know when you find it?" Xade asks

Who is your patron anyway? Also, do you know her well enough to say what she would do in the event that one of our number stumbles upon whatever she was looking for and accidentally damages or otherwise misplaces it?" Amras takes a few moments to reply to the halfling concerns, as though giving them careful consideration.

"I had much the same concern myself," he admits, "and I've little doubt my benefactor could quickly bring about my end if inclined to. However, if she was concerned about me being able to stealing this secret in turn, I don't think she'd have asked for my aid."

"Besides," Thomil interjects, "if this is so dangerous, it probably can't be learned quickly, right?"

"There is that."

"I will go," Karuil declares.

"Ah," says Thomil, looking a bit uncertain. "Very good, then."

"Good morning Dorian, yes I am ready" he greets the others as they arrive. When Dorian suggests they explain tactics that they use to get to know each other. Xade waits for his turn before going

I am a priest of Terrametrex, I can be an aid in battle with healing, enhancing our fighting abilities, or even improve defenses. I am a fairly decent shot with a crossbow, and I can also attack with my mace rather well. I guess you can say that I am versatile. My drawback is that I am not as fast as Dorian or Aridar so if we have to run I am likely to fall behind. I guess we can plan a better strategy on how best to use our talents sharing this information Dorian? Xade asks as he finishes up explaining his abilities

"Indeed, but don't worry about falling behind Xade you know I never leave anyone behind. I'm waiting for Master Amrass and the Lady Karuil to join us. If i'm not mistaken the lady might be a good shot with the bow as well.

I think we're best off sticking to ranged attacks until we've got the odds down a bit. A few score is not a group I'd like to wade into swinging a blade.

I know Aridar is proficient with the crossbow and Zade has a good aim as well, but I think that he'll prefer a shortbow and his range might be a bit shorter. We'll need to agree on a maximum attack range to maximize our effectiveness.

Against a larger group our best tactic would be to close in to firing range, give'm hell then fall back, circle around and hit them again untill they start to chase us. We'll need to find a good place for an ambush first though"

Nov 10, 2007 13:41:13
"I'm a druid, I'll help more with the front lines, with a handful of minor healing, entangling roots, fire magic and Wolfkin is as good as an extra sword, maybe more. If I can get Wolfkin into the place, he can carry me along as fast as anyone, so I'll take care of stopping escaping goblins. If I can't get Wolfkin in though, I'll have to stay in the back and attack from range without the benefit of his protection. Oh, and I can track as well as any ranger could boast of, not that goblins should pose much of a challenge there, but there might be more than one trail."

Arvindur pauses, considering something, "Staying in the back with Wolfkin might not be such a bad idea though, He can smell any goblins sneaking around and ward off a surprise attack. What do you guys think? In the thick of the front or a more defensive position? Also, if they come as a mass...well, I could do something about that, some vegetation persuaded to entangle will pin them where we can whittle the goblins down from range or cut into them close in without risk of being swarmed. With a sling, I can't really throw very far or hit particularly hard though, and Wolfkin is quite unable to contribute to a ranged combat."
#173

dorian_d_grey

Nov 11, 2007 3:12:21
Dorian listens carefully to Arvindurs words, is mind obviously already working to incorporate the druids abilities into a plan of action

"I think that with your healing abilities and your wolf's fine nose you'd be better at place in the rear. With Wolfkin by your side you'd make a very tough rear guard. And when it gets down to an ambush or close quarters your spells will be very helpfull"
#174

arvindur

Nov 11, 2007 10:15:45
Chuckling somewhat at Dorian's misconception,"I appreciate the compliment, but Wolfkin is a dog, though he should be happy to hear that. I'll cover the rear as you suggest, though if you are sorely pressed, I'll of course charge in with support. I've also prepared some healing berries last night, while not being very powerful, it would be useful in dealing with otherwise deadly wounds. They should be kept with those of you without spells, in case you need healing while Xade and I are inaccessible or in the event that we are BOTH disabled."

He rummages in a pocket for them and hold the blessed berries out.

ooc
Well, when I get a reply on the number that got blessed, we can divide them among the frontliners so that you can at least stop death from bleeding out. As I recall, even one point of healing would stabilise the dying.

You'd better hold that last part Aridar. Abeni is mighty upset right now and I don't think you want her to bring anymore wrath down upon you. Don't you remember what happened the last time?

Aridar rubs his sore ear while Luthien warns him of impending danger.

I can't keep protecting you forever you know. In any case, I'll calm her down...oh thats right! Here you go sir, sorry for the wait.

Luthien places Zade's breakfast in front of him then walks back to the kitchen. Moments later shouting is heard from behind the door once again but only takes several seconds before subsiding. Aridar glances to each of his companions then returns to his breakfast at hand.

The inn is pleasantly crowded, without being oppressingly full. Arvindur has little problems finding a table of his own off to one side. The ale is cold and the service warm - perhaps life is a littledull, but that doesn't mean one can't pass it in comfort.

Other than the staff there are customers of various walks in life present, but mostly merchants disposing of some excess coin (probably to smoothen business conversations to add to that wealth again). Two groups stand out a little: the first a bunch of rowdy-looking individuals whose rough demeanor seems out of place - something earning them the attention of the lone bouncer in a chair near the door - and a young couple who try so hard to be inconspicuous that one can't help but notice them. The watch man himself, prone in the middle of the four thugs, is curled up and looks like he suffered a few good blows already, but he still seems clear-headed enough to block or evade most of the attacks aimed at him.

Nobody just runs into my kitchen! And that dirty mongrel! Out out out OUT!"

Devlin, groaning and gingerly feeling his ribs, is helped up by his girlfriend. He looks gratefully at Arvindur and extends his right hand: "Thank you. I'll be sore all over for a while, but it could have been a lot worse."

"Thank you all," he adds for the rest of you. "I hadn't expected to be attacked like that right here at the last Lich..."

"Devlin's my name, Devlin Chiswick. And this is Zohrina," Devlin introduces himself and the pretty brunette holding on to his hale arm.

Looking at Dorian with the prisoner, he adds: "There's probably a watch patrol or two in the area, the number of watchmen on the streets has been increased. If you whistle loudly or call for the watch, they can take him off your hands."

Still quite pale, Devlin lets Zohrina help him to a chair so he can sit down.

"Let me at least buy you all a drink - I'm going to have one myself so I can get back on my feet."

The bouncer heads out in search of a watch patrol and a round of drinks is brought over - on the house, the Last Lich doesn't stand for good customers being accosted.

"There have been more and more incidents of thuggery, petty crimes, people running amok and acting like they're above the law lately," Devlin says with a shrug.

"Lots of provocations too, watchmen being goaded, threats... Nothing like this though, there hadn't been anything like unprovoked attacks in public until now."

The bouncer comes back in with a few watchmen in tow. He points out the tied-up prisoner as well as the two victims of Elobi's spell, who are still snoring where they fell. The watchmen get to work, tying up the sleepers and slapping them awake - none too gently - and checking on the leader's secured wrists, while the one in charge of the patrol greets everyone. Apparently he's had all the explanation he requires from the bouncer, because he doesn't ask any questions, but the angry look on his face shifts to irritation when he sees the young couple.

"For crying out l...

Right. Good evening, gents. Chiswick, miss Zohrina... You know I'll have to report this, obviously. She's not going to be pleased...

At least it looks like you'll be fit for duty in a day or two again, Chiswick. You can complete the report in the morning. Go and have the healer take a look at you.

Miss Zohrina, I'll have Grendholm escort you home..." - the girl gets an angry look in her eyes and tries to say something, but the watch man just holds up a hand to silence her and keeps going - "... or I'll be in as much trouble as the two of you. No discussion."

One of the patrollers, the one named Grendholm, throws a long-suffering look at the girl when he hears his name and new task, but sighs in resignation and comes over as well.

"Shall we go, miss?"

Satyre pushes open the door slowly, the scent and sounds of days gone by hits him suddenly and strangely. It hadn't been that long ago when he was here last, having completed his first task for the Guild. He was so much younger then, in mind if not in body. The privileged grandson to the head of a great Elven house. Mighty in his own mind, deserving of respect... though he had done nothing to merit any.

The Half-Elf lets out a breath he's been holding since he saw the inn. He sees a familiar table and takes a seat. Things were different now, he was different now. Satyre had learned what it meant to be of the Silver Sword. He was part of a team, others relied on him, and it was up to him (he had recently decided) to keep his group on this side of the ground. With breath still to hold.

"If only I hadn't been so rash..." the bard whispers to himself as a woman with hair the color of raven's wing comes to his table. A smile on her face, and a wink in her eye.

Walking past the Dwarf's drums, Satyre steps up to the very front of the stage and looks out the waiting, curious crowd. He swallows the lump growing in his throat, it has been a while since he's had to entertain. He begins to slowly clap his hands in rhythm, feigning that he is going to begin a song. In reality his mind has gone blank, desperately he trys to think of a song to sing.

A few of the patrons begin to clap with him, and it is then that his eye catches the bartender pouring a pint of ale. A wide grin creeps across the Half-Elf's face and he opens it to sing an old drinking song. Now alternating a stomp of his foot with his hand clap.

"Now is come Shestoi Yue, the hunter's moon is born
And through the wheaten stubble is heard the frequent horn
The leaves are pale and yellow, and kindling into red
And the ripe and bearded barley is hanging down its head

All among the barley, who would not be blithe
When the ripe and bearded barley is smiling on the scythe

The Bard urges the crowd to sing the chorus along with him, doing a slight jig to one end of the stage has he beckons to them.

[color=DarkOrchid][FONT="Palatino Linotype"]All among the barley, who would not be blithe
When the ripe and bearded barley is smiling on the scythe

The spring is like a young man who does not know his mind
The summer is a tyrant of most ungracious kind
The autumn's like an old friend, who loves one all she can
And she brings the bearded barley to glad the heart of man

The wheat is like a rich man, it's sleek and well-to-do
The oats are like a pack of girls, laughing and dancing too
The rye is like a miser, it's sulky, lean, and small
And the ripe and bearded barley is monarch of them all

All among the barley, who would not be blithe
When the ripe and bearded barley is smiling on the scythe

Now is come Shestoi Yue, the hunter's moon is born
And through the wheaten stubble is heard the frequent horn
The leaves are pale and yellow, and kindling into red

My plaid awa, my plaid awa,
And ore the hill and far awa,
And far awa to Norrowa,
My plaid shall not be blown awa.

The elphin knight sits on yon hill,
Ba, ba, ba, lilli ba
He blaws his horn both lewd and shril.
The wind hath blown my plaid awa

He blowes it east, he blowes it west,
He blowes it where he lyketh best.

As soon as Satyre picks up the song, the dwarf's rhythm becomes more intricate, more subtle, more suggestive. Knowing how the song goes, he anticipates where the singer will use his voice to enhance the melody, timbre and pitch colouring the emotions evoked by the words.

'I wish that horn were in my kist,
Yea, and the knight in my armes two.'

She had no sooner these words said,
When that the knight came to her bed.

'Thou art over young a maid,' quoth he,
'Married with me thou il wouldst be.'

'I have a sister younger than I,
And she was married yesterday.

'Married with me if thou wouldst be,
A courtesie thou must do to me.

'For thou must shape a sark to me,
Without any cut or heme,' quoth he.

'Thou must shape it knife-and-sheerlesse,
And also sue it needle-threedlesse.'

'If that piece of courtesie I do to thee,
Another thou must do to me.

'I have an aiker of good ley-land,
Which lyeth low by yon sea-strand.

'For thou must eare it with thy horn,
So thou must sow it with thy corn.

'And bigg a cart of stone and lyme,
Robin Redbreast he must trail it hame.

'Thou must barn it in a mouse-hell,
And thrash it into thy shoes sell.

'And thou must winnow it in thy looff,
And also seek it in thy glove.

'For thou must bring it over the sea,
And thou must bring it dry home to me.

'When thou hast gotten thy turns well done,
Then come to me and get thy sark then.'

'I'l not quite my plaid for my life;
It haps my seven bairns and my wife.'
The wind shall not blow my plaid awa

'My maidenhead I'1 then keep still,
Let the elphin knight do what he will.'
The wind's not blown my plaid awa

It's an altogether different style than Satyre's previous performance, not a boisterous, stomping drinking song. The Last Lich's crowd, first spurred to enthusiasm, now becomes quiet, hushed, but is equally easily captivated.

Show
A great performance, going on memorable this time, Satyre, thanks in part to the dwarf's aid another.

"That... that was quite lovely, wasn't it. I'm surprised the words came back to me... it has been a long while since last I sang a song as such. Lately it has been all war chants and battle cries."

Satyre stares into the darkness outside the window while he speaks. He breaks his gaze before getting lost in his own thoughts though, and turns to the Dwarf with outstretched hand.

"I don't believe I got your name, friend. If your partner hasn't arrived yet, I might be up for another musical collaboration."

The dwarf shakes Satyre's hand with his meaty paw.

"The name's Dirck. Dirck Berenson. It does look like Amaryllis isn't going to show up soon, so if you're in the mood for more..."

"Well met, Dirck. Right, so one more and then I should be on my way...."

Satyre grins wide at his own words. Remembering a song he picked up from a traveler in his Elven homeland.

"This is one you might not be familiar with, my friend. Though I learned it from a wanderer... and there is a good chance he might of wandered through the Last Lich Inn. Only the Mother knows."

The Half-Elf begins to tap his hand against his side and hum the melody to his song. Louder and louder until he is vocalizing without words. Finally, in a more subdued tone he begins.

"Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go. The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain, and with it pain, and it's headed my way.
Sometimes I grow so tired, but I know I've got one thing I got to do... "

Dirck picks up the tune immediately and accompanies Satyre's voice with a muted, understated rhythm. The song calls for simplicity, not overpowering grandeur. The crowd eats it up, much like the previous one, smiling and humming and nodding along and applauding when the song comes to an end. There are calls for more, but a brunette in her early thirties entered the inn just in time to catch the last few verses and is standing close to the stage, alternating between glaring at the dwarf and at the half-elf. Not a classic beauty, but she'd be a bit of a looker if it didn't appear the angry frown was such a regular fixture on her face.

"There she is," Dirck nudges Satyre. "Watch your tongue, she might make off with it if she doesn't like what she hears."

Satyre turns to look, the returned glare of anger contained puts a nervous smile on his face. He holds his arms out palms up and approaches her. Reaching the bottom of the steps, he bows low and holds out a hand to assist the tardy songstress up the stairs that lead to the stage.

"Amaryllis, lady of the stage, mistress of song, musical enchantress... it is an honor!

I am Satyre of the Silver Sword, a long time and humble admirer. I hope that my colorless singing was at the very least tolerable to your ears."

"Hmph. Flattery will get you nowhere, I'm sure. You haven't put the crowd off, at least. Did you want something?"

"Oh... I see."

Satyre glances over to Dirck with a disappointed look.

"No, madam. Apparently not." The bard sighs and walks past her, his eyes search the inn for Viola. He spots her and reaches for his coin purse.

"I would suggest, my dear Amaryllis, that in the future you attempt to be more pleasant. Or if you can't possibly be pleasant, at the least attampt not to be tardy."

He fishes out a gold piece and hands it to Viola who is passing by. "For my meal, dearest." The Half-elf smiles and winks to the bar maid.

"Well, thanks to you Dirck, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay. But now it's time for me to go."

"Good night, madam."
Satyre says with a smirk.

Viola returns the smile while she tucks away the coin. Tipping like that will make Satyre a welcome guest at any inn, and certainly keep him in the favour or the staff at the Last Lich.

Satyre sets his hands on the door for a moment, debating whether to leave.

'Where to go.... it has been a while since I was in the city. Let's see, last time I was here I remember the Hightower being nice and stuffy. Heh, night's young... why not.'

The young bard swings the doors open and steps out into the night.
