| #1shatteredtowerJun 18, 2003 15:34:02 | Large and imposing stands the palace of Garic. It is within these rules that the laws of the city are laid out. It is here that you buy licenses to trade and form a guild. The palace also serves as a residence to Lords Malifaeyr and Talean. Quarters have also been given to the elven diplomat, Lord Daerion. It is often hard to speak to this illustrious figures as they only rarely grant an audience. (This is the first Palace thread on this board; the previous thread is linked here.) |
| #2zombiegleemaxAug 03, 2003 23:26:21 | From Elsewhere *She sets her resolve as she traverses the city towards the Palace.* Lord Malyfaer knows who I am... surely, volunterring on his behaft must hold some weight in asking him for a boon... I will do anything he requires in return, if only he will help Alissa.. :embarrass *Climbs up the front steps and enters the foyer. She walks across the polished stone floor to where a servant of the Lords of Garic sits behind a desk.* *Trying to block the memory of the incident at the Iron Wolf from her mind, she clears her throat.* "Excuse me.. I am here to ask for an audience with Lord Malyfaer.." ![]() |
| #3shatteredtowerAug 07, 2003 16:02:32 | At first, Aria's reception isn't particularly helpful. "Listen, girl, I'm sure you're eager to enter a promising new career, but you don't just come straight to his Lordship and ask to join his guards. There's protocols to be followed." "Oooh, the sargeant's learned himself a new word!" "Shut up, Syme. Can't you see I'm trying to help this young lass? Now, girl, if you just go-" "Actually, sargeant..." :sighs: "Coren, I'm trying to-" "I know, sargeant, only... The rest is mumbled into the sargeants ear, however Aria does make out "...with the Silver... Jackals" "Oh. Oh, I see! Miss, please pardon my lack of courtesy. Coren will see you to his Lordship's wing and pass word on to his Lordship. I can't promise he'll see you himself - recent events have taken their toll - but he did leave word that he was to be notified if any of your group should present themselves to the palace." Coren escorts the heir to the Amberhawk name into a hallway, and bids her to take a seat. He leaves her under the watch of several other guards, then disappears for a time, returning with an apple, a half loaf of bread, and a section of cheese. "With Lord Malifaeyr's compliments," he says, adding "Pleae eat, and his Lordship will see you as soon as he has concluded his present business." |
| #4zombiegleemaxAug 07, 2003 19:44:38 | *Slowly sits down in the offered chair as she accepts the food given to her by the suddenly helpful guard... this sudden offer of hospitality catching her off guard in her current frame of mind.* *As soon as the guard leaves, she puts the plate down, not having an appetite.* *She curses herself as her body begins to tremble.. the cause being the fatigue of the past few days and her growing despair at being able to help her sister in time.* *The minutes tick by oh so slowly for her until she feels that she will soon go mad unless something happens soon.* Steady... calm yourself. You will not earn favors with Lord Malyfaer if you appear like a crazed woman.. ![]() *Still, she squirms in the chair, unable to sit still for longer than a few seconds at a time.* |
| #5shatteredtowerAug 08, 2003 4:00:23 | "Excuse me, miss? His Lordship will see you now." Aria, lost in her own thoughts, jumps as she is startled out of her reverie. Getting up out of the chair, she follows the page without a word. As they prepare to enter Lord Malifaeyr's chambers, Coren says quickly over his shoulder, "Miss? How do I introduce you?" "Tell his Lordship that it is Aria Amberhawk, of the Silver Sword Guild, who humbly begs this audience. He has met me before." He nods, and opens the door to a well-furnished study, announcing, "My Lord, Miss Amberhawk." The lord rises, a touch carefully. While his skin has faded from pink to brown, it appears that he shall carry the reminder of his fight for some time. Malifaeyr greets her with a small smile and a warm voice. "Miss Amberhawk, welcome. Please, take a seat. My dear, you look pale. Coren, wine for the lady, please." Aria bows before the lord. "M'lord... I cannot tell you how happy I am to see you alive and well." He nods his head graciously in response. "We had... feared the worst back at the pass." ![]() She takes the offered seat, but declines the wine goblet as it is presented to her. Malifaeyr graciously accepts a cup, then casually dismisses the servant. "I would also like to say that words cannot convey how grateful I am that you have taken the time to grant me this audience, M'lord." "You and the others all served myself and our city well in several times in recent days, and I shall not forget that. Though there has been no movement from Hent Manevelins, I may yet require your aid again. Whatever darkness was behind that attack... we have not heard the last of it, there can be no doubt of this. I shall learn what I can, but... it is curious..." His words drift off as his expression becomes distant. Then Malifaeyr shakes his head, and his eyes return to the present. "But that is not why you are here." He smiles, gently. "Why are you here?" Aria looks down at her hands, which are folded in her lap. She swallows hard when the question is asked, trying to keep the pain and despair from her voice. She fails. "M'lord... I... forgive me... it is hard for me to speak of..." Patiently, the nobleman waits for her to continue. "When I had returned to the city after the battle in the pass... I had found that my sister... Alissa, had been... slain..." The words continue to come out in a trembling voice. "She... died while helping another who had lost her son, and paid with her life for her compassion. She... is at the temple, under a spell that will keep her... suspended, until tomorrow." "I... see," says Lord Malifaeyr, in a tone that remains gentle, but carefully neutral. "Truly, I am sorry for your loss. After all you've faced, to return home to this news is surely unbearable. What do you intend?" Aria almost shows relief to be asked this question. "I wish to see my sister live again," she answers quickly, then, seeking to convince him, adds, "She is too young to have died such a horrible death. The church has set a price of five thousand gold in diamonds to perform the ceremony that will return her to life." She looks at the lord through tear-stained eyes. "M'lord... I fear I cannot raise that sum alone. That is why I have asked for this audience... to beg for any aid you can find in your heart to give. I would gladly do anything you ask of me to repay you... anything. I swear I will repay whatever loan you can spare for this act of mercy, M'lord..." ![]() Malifaeyr sits a long time in silence, fingers steepled against his lips. He speaks his next words carefully. "I have lost four score of my finest these last few weeks. No, please, Miss Amberhawk, let me continue. I am going somewhere with this. Please allow me to explain my situation." When she is ready, he continues. "I bear the responsibility for the death of too many under my command, yet I could not afford the sum the Church would require of me to restore all of them. Even if I did have such wealth, it still remains beyond my power - the priests have declared them all to be casualties in a conflict between the Two Brothers, and they will not interfere in this." The slightest trace of bitterness creeps into his words. "Brother Luther claims to know nothing of this, naturally, and I am forced to believe him. The enemy is not speaking through him, after all, but instead using our Mother's servants as intermediaries. "Damn them all to the ashes!" he cries, slamming his fist down on the table. He rests his head on one hand, holding the other up, palm open, to Aria before she can speak. "I beg your pardon, Miss Amberhawk. It just galls me that they would hide behind Her skirt, revealing themselves only to act as if... as if they were tattling children! I am certain that they only did this because it meant that the Temple would thus be bound to Her neutrality. At least they have enough sense to mistrust the Demmionites, for all the good it does my Jackals. "I have just finished securing the release of the few - far too few - prisoners taken by our enemies, at no small cost. Much of the last week has been spent arranging compensation families who had lost a son or daughter in my service. You might be surprised at how many of them, even among the aristocratic houses, had relied upon that extra source of income. "There is also the matter of preparing a monument to the fallen. Incredible. For the fees the artist requires, I would almost expect the finished work to be visible all the way to Hent Manevelins." He smiles at the joke, then lets the smile fade again, quickly, seeing that it does not have the desired effect. He speaks once more in gentle tones. "Please do not think this is my roundabout way of saying no, Miss Amberhawk. As you can see, I too am frustrated by loss and the powerlessness to do enough to redress it. You come to me for help, and I will help you, in part because I can do something here, now." He raises his palm again to stay her reaction to this news. "However... I shall require full compensation, in no small part for the reasons I have mentioned. And until you have repaid this debt, you are expected to reply promptly and any time that I call upon your services, performing them to the best of your ability. Let it be a reminder that my generosity is never bestowed lightly." He stops to sip his wine, then asks a question. "Miss Amberhawk... why have you come alone? Surely your sister's husband is no less eager to see to her return? It seems uncharacteristic of Sir Woodhome, somehow, and I can't imagine that he has changed so much. What are his wishes - and hers - on the matter?" |
| #6zombiegleemaxAug 08, 2003 11:31:27 | *Through her tears, it slowly dawns on her that he has not denied her initial request..* So many died in that skirmish.. I must sound so selfish begging for aid when so many others have died and will be denied that aid.. still, I had to pursue this option.. I owe it to my sister.. ![]() *Speaks slowly, but with respect for his situation.* "Forgive me, M'lord.. in my grief I had not considered your perdicament,":embarrass *Frowns at the mention of Hermy.* "I fear I have not yet seen him since our return, M'lord.. I do not even know if he has found out what has happened to Alissa. I plan on seeking him out, for I can realize even in my grief that he has a say in what should be done with his wife.." *Her frown deepens at the mention of what Alissa would want.* "You are not the first to bring up that question, M'lord. My answer to that is that she died an agonizing death way before her time. Her life was just beginning.. with a new husband and a bright future ahead of her. She.. had already survived so much.. I cannot evn fathom that she would not wish to be returned to us.." |
| #7shatteredtowerAug 08, 2003 12:12:03 | "For certain, a good many reasons to live," Malifaeyr replies. "I would prefer that we discuss the matter with Sir Woodhome as well, in case he can help you with the debt involved. In the meantime, I will arrange to continue the spell which preserves your sister's remains, to give you both... to give us all... more time. Will that suffice until you can find her husband?" |
| #8zombiegleemaxAug 08, 2003 12:28:37 | *Nods slowly.* "That would be most helpful, M'lord.. I shall seek out Hermy right away. Again, I thank you for your aid, M'lord.." *Stands up and bows deeply to Lord Malyfaer.* "By your leave.." *When the Lord nods his permission, she turns and leaves the room and the palace in search of Hermy.* I have no doubt in my mind Hermy feels the same way I do.. between the both of us, we shall raise the gold needed to restore my sister to life.. *The thought that he might feel otherwise never crosses her mind.* To SSAG |
| #9hermy_the_hero_dupAug 29, 2003 17:57:31 | *Hermy approaches the gates and waves to the guard on duty.* "Hey! Is Lord Malletfur home?" "I needs to talks to him about a problem with the city guards." "It's kinda important." "Oh yeah, Ise Hermy Woodhome. Sir Hermy." "He knows me. I helps him save the fcity all the time." |
| #10zombiegleemaxAug 29, 2003 18:03:44 | The guard opens his mouth to make an outraged retort, but his fellow elbows him in the ribs. A quick shake of his head indicates there is more than meets the eye, and the second guard nods to Hermy. "I'll pass word that you're here, Sir Woodhome." He steps into the guardhouse, and a runner darts into the Palace. After a few minutes' wait, the runner returns, sketches a bow to the halfling, and invites him to wait inside. Hermy is led to a bench in a waiting room. |
| #11hermy_the_hero_dupAug 29, 2003 18:20:50 | *Hermy looks at the bench, then at the guard, and then looks past the guard at the familiar hallway beyond.* "I knows the way. I comes to strategize with Lord Malletfur alls the time." *Hermy starts to walk towards the lords office, but the guard stps in his way.* "I'm afriad you will have to wait. The Lord is presently occupied." *Hermy nods and returns to the bench.* *He sits for a few minutes and then starts pacing.* *Every few minutes he asks the guard if Lord Malletfur is free yet.* *After around the sixth time the guard nods and escorts Hermy to the Lords chambers.* *Hermy wastes no time in getting to the point.* "Hey, dids you know that the city guards don't get no vacations? IThat dwarf guard Goodrag was going to comes an helps me get the moneys to raise Alissa, but they keeps him so busy that he culdn'ts even takes the time to finish the planning meeting." "He was looking very stressed about it too." "That's can't be healthy." "I was wondering if maybe you coulds let the guard captain know that one of his guards is about to fall over from too much work." "You knows that old saying I mades up don't you?" "Too much work an not enoughs pie makes for a very hungry halfling." "Well I thinks it works for dwarfs too." "Goodrag needs a brek from doing all the locking people up and sending them to the mines." "An I needs him to comes helps me finds a mummy." "See the coincidenc? I think it's the work of the Mother that timedit likes that." "BUT THE Mother can't tell his bosses to makes him take a vacation." "But perhaps you coulds?" |
| #12shatteredtowerAug 29, 2003 23:00:38 | Malifaeyr allows Hermy to continue on, waiting for him to reach a conclusion. He shudders once, for a moment, but that subsides quickly, and then he appears to be all ears again. When the halfling comes to a rest, the lord speaks. "I think something can be arranged. It is, after all, for such a good cause. Yes, I shall have word sent to Captain Hunter at once. And to the lieutenant, of course." He shifts into his chair and adopts a more thoughtful expression. "Sir Woodhome, what thought have you and the others given to my offer. No, not the one for your sweet Alissa, though you have my best wishes for your success, there. I may even be able to offer you some aid on that journey as well." Malifaeyr reaches into a pouch and produces a spoon, carved from a piece of horn from the looks of it. "This spoon will produce a porridge if you place it within an empty bowl or pot. It doesn't taste very good, so you may wish to bring molasses or honey for flavour, but it will provide enough sustenance for four people each day. You won't have to carry quite as many sandwiches this way." The he reaches into a second pocket, and produces a lit torch! "And this will save you the cost of torches. It won't burn anything, so you can store it anywhere, but it will not sputter out in heavy winds or rain, either. You can even use it underwater, if you wish." He hands the two items to Hermy and watches the knight. Then he shakes his head slightly. "I'm sorry, where was I? Oh, yes. Sir Hermy, have you and the other members of your guild reached a decision on the subject of serving as my champions while I rebuild my Jackals? Sir Darkar is doing what he can, but there are so few, and both the city and I need what champions we can gather. "I could have talked with the investors about the matter - I'm sure they would have appreciated the prestige this offered them - but I felt it best to learn your opinions, individually and as a group, first. "Would your band of adventurers be willing to serve me, much as Allegion and Tao once served me?" |
| #13hermy_the_hero_dupAug 30, 2003 7:04:12 | *Hermy gives Lord Malefaeyr a strange, confused look.* "I don't think no ones evem mentioned that." "But of course we cin be yer champions... As long as it don't interfer with our being heroes." "Savin peoples got to come before taking orders an marchin around an stuff." "I bets the rest of the guilds will be ables to helps out to." "But nots likes yer old jackals did." "Wese gunna need more freedoms to takes care of hero types stuff. And I don'ts wants to lives in yer castle neither." "The guildhouse is where I belong." "Oh, an wese gunna need better uniforms." "I don'ts means to be rude or nuthin, but green hats is kinda silly looking." "Don'ts tell Minto I saids that though." *Hermy hurridily looks around to make sure no one overheard him before continuing.* "So what exactly dids Sir Allginone and the Toe Lady do for you?" |
| #14shatteredtowerAug 30, 2003 8:17:43 | Lord Malifaeyr looks surprised at Hermy's first statement, but allows him to continue. He adds a comment here and there, responding to Hermy's assertion of the needs of herodom with a simple "Of course," and on the matter of residence he simply says, "I quite understand." He gives a sudden amused snort on Hermy's assessment of uniforms, before regaining his composure, but nods his assent to the request for maintaining a confidence from a minstrel. Then he replies to the halfling's question. "They saw to my security, and the safety of those I serve - the people of this city and the surrounding lands. They were my private guard force, my army, my agents and ambassadors, whether it was to a village's elders, the royal court in Reise, or to a bandit chief - though diplomacy usually work an iron gauntlet in the later case. "However, they were a bit too dedicated to my service, in some ways. Sir Allegion meant well, but his insistence that a Jackal had to foreswear all other relations to serve only myself and Thalos - Tao got him to bend on that, to a degree, but this was never meant to be a religious order. The rules will have to change if I am to rebuild the group. "And yet... I need to replace them with men and women who can be seen to uphold the traditions of truth and justice, heroism and valor. Finding such - yes, please help yourself," Malifaeyr says, noticing Hermy eying a tray of pastries that a servant has just laid out for them. "As I was saying, finding such individuals can be a trying process. However, if I were to find a group dedicated to such principles - it's custard. Quite good, actually. If I were to find such a group, then it would simply be a matter of recruiting them to my cause, and letting them serve as an example to the new blood I will be recruiting." He politely accepts a cup of tea from the servant, mouthing his thanks before the elder man turns to Hermy, to see if the young knight would also like a cup. Malifaeyr sips, then speaks again. "The offer to become one of my Jackals is always open to any of the Silver Sword, Sir Hermy, but this offer to the Silver Sword is for a term of service, until we can reestablish the Jacka's to something approaching their former glory. It could take two years, perhaps longer, but it will cement your reputation as this city's greatest heroes. "And, of course, I shall be every so grateful," he adds, in case Hermy might realize how much the gratitude of a nobleman is worth. "Give it some thought, perhaps after a good night's sleep and a proper breakfast," he offers, smiling. "In the meantime, I have a few letters to write. Please feel free to enjoy the refreshments - I shall return shortly." Lord Malifaeyr sips from his teacup once more, then rises and leaves the room. |
| #15shatteredtowerAug 30, 2003 13:41:12 | After perhaps... twenty minutes (?), Malifaeyr returns. He picks up the tea cup and looks at the contents, before putting it back down. "Ah, cold tea. Ahhh...," he says, rubbing his hands together. Then he picks up his tea and sips it, expressing mild distaste. "Bitter," he declares, then twirls his finger over the cup before drinking again. "There we go." Malifaeyr takes another sip, then addresses his guest. "Well, Sir Hermy, the letters have been dispatched, and the lieutenant should be at your disposal for the duration of your expedition. Now, if there is no more business to discuss, let us finish our tea, and I will wish you a safe journey and a successful return." Malifaeyr sits and samples one of the tarts.. |
| #16hermy_the_hero_dupAug 30, 2003 15:48:24 | *Hermy nods, and shoves a few pastries into his mouth as he listens to Lord Malifaeyr.* *When his mouthg is finally empty enough to speak with out spraying the lord with custard, Hermy speaks.* "These is pretty good! Do Jackals get these often?" *He shakes his head.* "Not that it matters." "I don't really needs to sleep on it overnight. I knows I will be willing to helps you out. Ise one of your knights already aint I? Minto too?"" "We will both be happies to help. My students too if you want them.." "I'm already use to serving as an example. An standing fer truth, justice, heroism, an goodness an stuff, sose I mights as well do all that officially." "Don't worry though. I won'ts become too dedicated. At least not to you or Aggietheloose." "I'm more of a Mother kinda guy. And a saving the city guy too. Ise very dedicated to that." *Hermy takes the letters from Malifaeyr, and a few extra pastries and nods his head.* "Thanks fer helping me out with my problem." "As soon as I get back, I'll start helping you with yours." "An I bet most the rst of the guilds will too." "I'll mention it to thems." "See ya soons." *Hermy exits the chambers and from there the palace.* |
| #17zombiegleemaxNov 03, 2003 5:14:04 | Gerug wanders about the palace, reviewing the entrances -- and the possible entrances. .oO(I'll have to ask about this door later. It should be okay during daylight hours, though. Hmm... that doesn't look like too difficult a climb... ah, barred. Good, good... Are those the barracks now?) He walks toward the Jackal's headquarters. |
| #18hermy_the_hero_dupDec 23, 2003 22:51:23 | *Hermy and Minto approach the gates and are stopped by the guards. They recognize the halfling hero from one of his many previous visits.* "Lord Maelifaeyr is currently busy. If you really want to speak to him it's going to be a long wait." "Actually I wanteds to talks to who ever was on duty last night." "I needs to know ifen there was an angery woman in purple armor who cames by sometime after midnights?" *The guard frowns.*"Lady Amberhawk? She came by demanding to see the Lord and stormed off after being told he was sleeping." "I was warned to keep an eye out for her when my shift started." "Evidently she looked very dangerous." "She is." *Hermy looks back down the road.*"I don't suppose you heard anything about where she was going did you?" "If she saisd anything about that, it did not make the report." *Hermy frowns.* "Allrights. Thanks fer yer help. Ise better gets to finding her." *Hermy and Minto mount back up, and Hermy gives a wave as he starts to ride off.*"Tell Lord Malletfur I said Hi." *The two halflings ride away talking.* "Where to next? Marroc's? If any one has heard rumours about where Aria is at, it's him." "Thats what I was thinking too. Cme on! We need to hurry. I wants ta finds her before morning, I still has a few last goodbyes I needs to give to Alissa before they creamates her." |
| #19hermy_the_hero_dupJan 25, 2004 13:57:26 | *Hermy rides up to the gates. He nods at the two guards positioned in front of it.* "Hey. Hi.... Say aint you new. I aint seen you guardin before." *Hermy points at the younger of the two guards. The other one smiles and answers for his companian.* "He was just transferred over from the south gate. What brings you here today Sir Woodhome?" "I hope it's not to see the Lords. They aren't accepting visiters at this time." "Nah, Ise hear ta train the Jackals." *The new guardsman struggles to hold in a laugh.*"You are going to train the Jackals? In what?" *The senior guard elbows his partner in the ribs.* "Very good Sir Woodhome. I'm sure they can use your expertise." "I believe you know the way." "Yup. Ise been there a few times." *Hermy waves and then rides to the Jackal compound.* *The younger man turns and rubs his side.*"What did you do that for?" *The vetren shakes his head.* "Don't you know who that was? You aren't color blind are you?" |
| #20zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 16:26:06 | *Accompanied by Brodda, Tynk nears the main Palace entrence and continues speaking softly.* "...then he stuck the sword right into th demon-troll's throat. It was horrific, and I thought Hermy was a gonner for sure..." *Looks to the Palace as they draw near the guards.* "I must admit, I have never been here before for any reason. Perhaps you know the formalities?" |
| #21zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 17:36:10 | Brodda listens raptly to Tynk's tale until they begin an approach to the palace guards. She chuckles when he inquires as to her familiarity with palace procedure. "Heh heh, aye, ah think ah kin say ah've been herre once orr twice. Go ahead and step forrwarrd and let them know we'rre herr on business forr Sirr Woodhome and woould like a guide t'the rrecorrds." She begins to hum and weaves together a beguiling, lilting tune. |
| #22zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 20:34:32 | *Nods* *Walks twards the guards and addresses the older one.* "I am Tynk Waverstone, and this is Brodda..." .oO(I never got her last name.) *The boy studders a little, trying to put the uneasy feeling that this unfamiliar protocol gives him.* "...Um...Hermy...I mean..." *Not noticing Brodda's song, he doesn't notice it's effect put him somewhat to ease.* "...we are here on behalf of Sir Woodhome, and request escort to the records to conduct research." "Please." *he quickly adds* |
| #23zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 20:43:24 | The guard looks at Tynk curiously. "That's a matter for the clerks, sir." He nods in the direction of the reception desk. "Ask him." |
| #24zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 21:24:36 | "Thanks." *Heads in the direction indicated with Brodda right beside him.* *Approaches the desk, talking when the receptionist is free.* "Good-day sir. I am here seeking information on the father of our friend on his behalf. This man was sentensed to the mines and we wish to investigate the details of his case." |
| #25zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 21:36:29 | The clerk pulls a ledger from the stack on his desk, flips it open to the current page, licks his pen nib, and says, "There's a five gold fee for researching the archives naturally you're citizens of the city or working for such what is your full name and affiliation, that of your associate, that of the person on whose behalf you are researching, that of the criminal and the date of the crime and sentencing?" He waits, pen poised over the parchment. |
| #26zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 21:46:02 | *Reaches into his pouch as he speaks.* "My name is Tynk Waverstone of the Silver Sword, resident and apprentice of the Hightower under Master Cione." *Silences and looks to Brodda, who states her own name. Tynk places the five gold on the counter as he continues.* "I come on behalf of Sir Hermy Woodhome, whos father, also Hermy Woodhome, was sentensed to slave work at one of the mines." "Which mine is unknown, as well as how long ago he was sentenced." *Is about to say something else, but silences instead.* .oO(The criminal...we'll see.) |
| #27zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 21:52:02 | The clerk scratches down the information, counts and records the gold, placing the coins in a lockbox. He then looks up at Tynk severely, "Our archives are filed by date. I'll require at least the year he was sentenced, and the closer to the correct date you can get, the faster it will be done. Based on the little you have given me, it will likely be a month before the records can be located. If it turns out that your friend is an elf, and the incident occurred five hundred years ago, you'll be lucky if we ever locate it!" |
| #28zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 22:11:30 | .oO(Something I don't think we can even find out...but maybe.) *Is taken back by the agitation expressed.* .oO(Hm..How do I put this without aggitating her further?) *He is silent for a moment, thinking. He leans forward and lowers his voice a little, allowing some compasion for a friend to weigh his concern.* "For a long time now, a man who is the father of a very good friend of mine has been sentensed to slavery for a crime he was framed for." "I know the details are vague, and if I could give you more information I certainly would." *Places another 10 golds on the counter.* "All I can do is ask that you help. The framed criminal is a halfling, if that helps. And it would definately be a rather many years ago. For now if you can work off of that I will do my best to obtain more information." "But tell me, perhaps you know? For what types of crimes are criminals sent to the mines for?" |
| #29zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 22:31:15 | Brodda steps up to the clerk with a smile. "A halfling's lifespan cerrtainly isn't five hundrred yearrs, lad, and we'rre lookin' ferr one that coould possibly be alive t'day." She smiles again for him. "Especially ferr one who's the Da of Sirr Woodhome." She winks. |
| #30zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 23:00:48 | "Well, one of the crimes is bribery of a city official." The clerk pointedly does not take the ten gold. "The other crimes are arson, assault, banned religious activity, blackmail, burglary, damaging city property, counterfeiting, embezzling, fraud, impersonation of a city official, inciting riots, manslaughter, perjury, brawling, robbery, sedition, tomb robbing, and vandalism." He catches Brodda's comment and smile, and smiles in return. "A halfling? That's a good bit of information, yes. How old is your friend? His father couldn't have been sent off before siring the child, after all." |
| #31zombiegleemaxFeb 13, 2004 23:09:05 | She keeps smiling. "Ah'd say he's aboout mid-twenties, wouldn'a yeh agrree, Tynk?" She glances over to Tynk, who looks at her in an almost puzzled fashion, and he nods. "Um, yes. I would say so." Brodda returns her gaze to the clerk. "Aye... mid-twenties orr soo." ![]() |
| #32zombiegleemaxFeb 14, 2004 8:10:33 | "Alright, so, we won't search further back than, hm, 26 years. Presumably the incident didn't happen as recently as last week?" At their reply of 'no,' he goes on, "Well, we'll start 26 years ago and work our way forward. If you can get me any kind of better parameters, I'd certainly appreciate it. And don't expect us to treat this as a priority. Check back in a week." |
| #33zombiegleemaxFeb 14, 2004 13:35:28 | .oO(Was that bribery? How rude...) *Takes the gold back.* "If I was to bribe I would be a little more tactful," he says under his breath as Brodda speaks." *Waits for Brodda and the clerck to finish, adding "Thank-you" at the end with his own touch of agitation.* *Walks tward the gate with her, speaking softly.* "Maybe someone at the guild knows more. Hermy said he found out from his mother's spirit about his father, and that his brother had something to do with the framing. Hermy didn't mention who was with him during this time, but it's worth a shot." "Who knows, the hero may even be there himself. He is so hard to find you know?" |
| #34zombiegleemaxFeb 14, 2004 13:55:22 | Brodda notes her partner's outward agitation and nearly winces. .oO(He's gooin' teh hafta learrn how teh play the game teh git a positive rresult.) ![]() She smiles at the clerk and shakes his hand. "Thank yeh ferr yeh'rre help, lad. We'll check back with yeh... Ah'm soorry, what was yeh'rre name?" :D After getting the clerk's name, she take's Tynk's elbow and heads for the SSAG. | #36zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 13:41:49 | Minto reaches the palace, and nods to the guards at the gate. "Having a nice day boys? I need to go in and talk to a few clerks." "Jackal buisness." The guards let Minto pass, and the bard approaches the recepion desk. "I've been informed that there was a dwarf and a skinny human here earlier asking to do some research?" "Did they mention it pertained to a mission for the head of the Jackal's scouts?" "I know they mentioned to me that it could take a few weeks." "Is there anyway you can speed that up? I'd hate for the scouts to go out into the field lacking a piece of valuable information. I think Lord Maelifaeyr has lost enough men recently to inadequate scouting recently, don't you?" "If your research team is understaffed, I'm sure a few Jackals could be assigned to help out?" "Should I go ask Lord Maelifaeyr to do that? I'm sure he's not to busy to help out a few clerks, don't you think?" Minto smiles at the clerk and starts to humm "Hands of Malifaeyr". Diplomacy total due to new level = +12, Bluff =+10, Intimidate =+7 |
| #37zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 17:04:37 | "That doesn't sound familiar. I've just been on duty since noon, so perhaps they were here in the morning?" The clerk looks quizzically at Minto. |
| #38zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 21:51:49 | Minto gives the clerk a stern stare. "It doesn't matter when they were here. Or who was on duty when they were." "What does matter is that the information is found as soon as possible." "Lives are at stake." "Important lives." "Does that sound familiar?" |
| #39zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 21:55:37 | "Actually, it does matter 'when' and 'who,' if you want me to find the work order and expedite the job." The clerk frowns in annoyance. "You can't expect me to act on nothing, and that's all you've given me." |
| #40zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 22:11:26 | "I expect you do what ever can be done." "But since it is a rush matter I'll give you as much as can be disclosed without the proper clearances." "We need to know all you can find out about a crime that was commited between twenty and twenty one years ago." "A halfling by the name of HHermy Woodhome, no not the great hero, was sent to thirty years in the mines for killing an acolyte of Agathalos." "I believe that Captain Kerris was in charge of the investigation. And Mr. Woodhome was sentanced to thirty years in the mines." "I need to know which mines, who was killed, and who the other suspects in the crime were." "I also need to know why Captain Kerris left the guards." "Anything else you can dig up would also be nice." "Mr. Woodhome had some knowledge very essential to the scouting mission that the Jackal's will be going on soon." "It is imperative we find him." "The safety of the city may depend on it." |
| #41zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 22:30:23 | "And presumably someone has already written this up, so why don't you just tell me who was here before? Otherwise, I'm going to waste a lot of time looking for that parchment." |
| #42zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 22:46:52 | Minto looks at the man, and then shakes his head. "I'm sorry about that. It's such an important subject that I forgot my manners." "It was a dwarf, Brodda, and a human, Tynk of the Hightower." "They were working under the instructions of the head of the Jackal scouts. I wasn't sure wether they were authorized to leave their names or not." .o0(I really ought to ask Brodda what her last name is.) "Luckily I am authorised." "And thank you in advance for whatever help you can give." "I'll be sure your name goes into the report." |
| #43zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 22:52:22 | "Hmph." The clerk stands up. "Wait here, then." He walks into another room, and returns after a few minutes with a parchment. "Here we are. Says here the records search was to start from 26 years back. That's not what you were saying, though..." |
| #44zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 22:55:30 | [Minto nods at the man. "They were not privey to the full details." "It's classified material." Minto quickily looks around the room to make sure no one is listening. "Does what I have told you speed up the process more? Or do I need to tell you more?" |
| #45zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 23:02:03 | "Knowing that it was exactly twenty to twenty one years ago helps immensely. It's very time consuming to go through the files, and we would have gone through five years' worth unnecessarily." He jots some notes down on the parchment. "There's an extra five gold fee if you want us to work through the night on the records' search." |
| #46zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 23:16:18 | Minto hands the clerk 10 gold coins. "Thriugh the night yes, and keep going till you find the information we need." "It's very important. Top priority." "And very confidential." "If the public finds out about this there might be rioting on the streets." |
| #47zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 23:29:04 | The clerk raises an eyebrow, but merely places the coins in the lockbox. "Very well, then. It'll be on the list of priority records searches." |
| #48zombiegleemaxFeb 22, 2004 23:43:39 | Minto bows slightly to the man. " I'm sure you will find it soon." "My thanks to you." "And those of Lord Maelifaeyr." Minto heads out of the office and heads towards Nobody's Inn. |
| #49zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 1:14:10 | Minto and Tynk approach the castle gates, and are stopped by the guards. "The gates are closed for the night." Minto smiles andwaves his silver sword pin in front of them quickily. "It's all right. Official buisness. It's about the orcs up in the pass." "Urgent news that can't wait." One of the guards looks at the other and whispers, "Is he the halfling in charge of the scouts? I thought he always wore red pants?" The other guard nods. "That's probably just a rumour. Theres a lot of rumours about that guy. I'm not sure how many are true." "Should we let him by? I'd hate to be the one who stopped the Lords of the city from getting important news. We'd be on the front lines for sure." "But is it him?" "It's got to be. How many other halflings would have a human for a personal servant?" The guards stop whispering and clear out of the way. Minto bows at them as he leads Tynk through the doors. He whispers to Tynk when they get out of earshot. "You've just got to know the right words." |
| #50zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 1:51:23 | "Or the right story it seems. I thought I heard the guard say 'human servant'." "You don't suppose they were talking about me?" *He asks innocently as they come to the receptionist for the records.* |
| #51zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 5:50:51 | Unsurprisingly, the reception desk is not manned. There are plenty of servants and clerks hurrying about at their tasks, though, and one of them recognizes Minto. "Oh, hello there, you know we couldn't possibly have found that record already." His arms full of documents, the clerk Minto spoke with on his last trip to the palace veers off from his path to greet the halfling. "Or did you have another reason for coming by after the public gate was closed?" |
| #52zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 10:39:11 | Minto smiles. "To save the tax payers money." "And to make your job easier." "We have an exact date now for when the man was sent to the mines." "20 years ago, 24th day of Prairial. And he was sent to some salt mine." "Will that help you to track down all the relevant information? We need to know everyone involved. Who did the sentancing, the guards reports on the inncident, and if its not to much extra trouble any information you have on the guard captain at the tie. A woman named Kerris I believe." |
| #53zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 14:46:56 | *Tynk simply nods and adds kindly...* "Please." |
| #54zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 16:26:38 | Minto looks at Tynk and nods approvingly, and then speaks to the clerk again. "Yes, please." "And thank you." |
| #55zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 18:00:51 | "Ah, well if he was sent to the mines on the 24th of Prairial, 20 years ago, then his sentencing was most likely within the month before that. Yes, that helps a great deal." He jots that down. "The guard captain! Now you're adding a whole new records search!" He looks up from his paper, upset. |
| #56zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 18:15:27 | Minto frowns and hands the clerk another five gold. "Not as big of a rush on that one." "Go ahead and get some sleep. We'll be back in a few days to see what kind of progress you've made." "And sorry for the inconvience." Minto tugs on Tynks sleeve. "Come on, we could use some rest ourselves." "We need to meet Brodda at the Temple in the morning." |
| #57zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 19:37:35 | Grumbling, the clerk takes the fee and adds the new search request to the parchment detailing the first one. |
| #58zombiegleemaxFeb 28, 2004 22:43:32 | *Tired, Tynk follows Minto out of the Palace, says goodnight, sets a time to be at the Temple, and heads twards the Hightower.* |
| #59zombiegleemaxJul 31, 2004 16:43:45 | Thref enters the palace slowly. As he does so, he remembers that the last time he had been here was to get a permit to allow Honor in the city as a mount. The thought disturbs him for a moment, before he moves towards the reception desk. He stops just far enough away so that the clerk would be able to see him without stretching, and composes himself to ensure he speaks clearly. When the clerk is free, he speaks. "Excuse me. Oi'm looking fer someone named Darkar, a member of the Jackals. Oi know they don't like people barging in their areas unannounced. Do you think you could 'elp me out?" The clerk looks down at the halfling and nods. "Now that they are busy recruiting members, they are not so strict on that particular quirk. You may go on back." Thref thanks the clerk, and moves on to the Jackal's area. To Jackals |
| #60jace_cornwallAug 05, 2004 15:02:29 | *Walks into the palace with a measured step, looking about at the hall, he sees a clerk sitting behind a desk writting away on a peice of parchment. Jace walks up to the desk* "I am considering employment with the Jackels. To whom should I speak with and how may I do this?" "In the past, you would leave a note here, but in these days you should probebly speak with Sir Darkar Shadowood." "Where may I find Darkar?" "Sir Darkar will be in the compound doing some task" *Jace furrows his eyebrows* "excuse me....may I go and serch for him." "you may" *With that Jace bows slightly and leaves for the compound* |
| #61ghost_theoryNov 02, 2004 13:33:43 | The curtain lifts and the thespian looks stunned. Lucian Risk takes a nervous bow, embellished in full make up and styled hair. He tugs at his normal loose, grey clothing and it tears away as easy as a costume change should, revealing an outlandish, frilled getup. It’s all shiny red and orange designs and black velvet The half-elf doesn’t quite understand what is going on. He was in one place, and then this curtain fell all around him and lifted to reveal a wholly different scene. The applause of a shadowed audience sends shivers up his spine like cold water. A white spotlight follows Lucian as he takes a step one way and then another, grappling with how this could all be real. A filter is placed over the light, bathing the stage in a crimson hue. “What is this...” the rogue asks, “Where am I?!” Sweat begins to moisten Lucian’s auburn hair. A gentle laughter starts somewhere in the crowd and spreads left and right followed by polite clapping as if Mr. Risk has just performed some stage magic trick. He walks forward, hoping for a better view of the crowd. All he can see are silhouettes however. Fed up with the spectacle, Lucian turns to dash for where he guesses a backstage area must be. Running past the curtain, he passes through a dark corridor only find himself back on stage... whether it is the same one or a second, identical one, the actor cannot be sure. He looks back in the direction he came but only sees shadow. “Boo!” someone hisses. A chorus of boos follows suit. “Get ‘im off the stage!” “Be rid of him!” Lucian backs away from the edge of the stage slowly; the red light in his eyes won’t let him think. He holds his hands up to placate the mob of observers. The light glints of the glittery pieces of his costume. “Sirs, Madams,” he tries to speak with good cheer, “If you could just tell me what is going on here...” The light color switches to a somber blue. “He wants to know what’s going on here,” snickers one woman’s voice. “Ha, like he doesn’t know,” adds a second, deeper voice, “Brilliant!” The raucous clapping and laughter that follows should be music to a performer’s ears. Instead the noise drills into Lucian’s very soul, and he has a sinking terror that this might be real, that “life is a stage” is not just a metaphor. A loud gonging sound quiets the crowd down. A white light comes on somewhere high and at the back of the rows, casting a seated man’s shadow all the way onto the stage. The light somehow rolls its pitch until it is directly above the sitting man. The chair, Lucian squints to realize, is a small throne. “Come now, good player, you are holding up the show,” a resonating voice emits. “Who are you?” Lucian cries. “You are in my palace; don’t you recognize one of your own rulers?” Lord Malifaeyr states. “What?!” “You grew tired of the play you were in, didn’t you? You were searching for a new part to play,” Malifaeyr turns, addressing the audience, “He pleads for a change, and when he receives, he acts as if he did not wish it in the first place.” This draws a string of boos and jeers toward the stage. “Oh, very well,” the light above the Lord goes out, leaving Lucian in his indigo shade, “Just remove your mask and be done with it. You’ve ruined the role and broken the illusion anyhow.” The light switches again, this time Lucian is standing in a yellow spotlight. He didn’t realize he was wearing a mask. The rogue feels to his face for some loose edge to grasp. Finding one on either side below his ears, Lucian pulls with a maddened urge. Some liquid drips onto the black frills around his neck. No strings, he wonders... What strange fluid was used to hold this mask on? A hushed line of ooo’s and ah’s reaches the stage. In the amber light, Lucian holds the mask up to get a better look at it. He nearly screams when he sees his own face staring back at him, flesh peeled off like some theatrical mask. When he reaches up to feel the exposed teeth bones where his lips should be, he does scream. Trembling, Lucian drops his mask with a shudder. Madness. What hellish ruse is this? They know! Lucian peers into the shadowed crowd that is now clapping again. They... they must. He would have answers. This can’t be the real world. The Mother would never allow such a sickening imbalance. He... I – don’t... can’t be. With a titter, Lucian rushes the edge of the stage and dives forward into the dimness. |
| #62darkar_shadowood_dupJan 19, 2005 2:01:49 | Darkar heads to the proper area for waiting to be summoned by Lord Malifaeyr. He lets a page know that he has arrived to speak with Lord Malifaeyr as requested. |
| #63zombiegleemaxJan 19, 2005 10:20:37 | After a short wait, Darkar is shown to Lord Malifaeyr's maproom. The lord looks up from where he is leaning over the table, and gestures Darkar to approach. Come, look at this. Darkar sees a map of the area between the city and Hents Manevelins. I've been concerned that this region is under-protected. Much good, arable land lies undeveloped because there is no-one to oversee the area. Also, should the orcs decide to move against the city, as Kahn did, all this forest provides excellent cover. See how closely they could approach, undetected? I've been watching you, Shadowood, and I believe you have the strength of will needful to rectify the situation. We need a loyal vassal to go to this spot, seize it from the creatures infesting it, and secure it for the good of the City, and the farmers that should rightfully be living there! Lord Malifaeyr's piercing gaze rivets Darkar to the floor. Am I wrong? Or can you take on this challenge? Can you find the allies you'll need, go to this hill-- he points to a spot on the map--and build the fortifications to establish a lawful presence in the wilderness? This is the challenge of a lifetime, Shadowood. Can you do it? Will you do it? |
| #64darkar_shadowood_dupJan 19, 2005 20:15:47 | The piercing gaze causes Darkar to stand up straighter, as if his mother is calling him to behave when he was a child. Walking over to the map Darkar is familar with the spot. The group with Kirby passed by there on the way to investigate the ruined fortress. Running a hand through the back of his hair, Darkar takes a moment to consider the challege presented to him. "It is a plan that can be accomplished, and I am confident that I can do it. However, I need to know about funding. It will cost lots of money to build that fortresss, hire people to become a guard for that region. Part of the forest around the hill would need to be cleared. I need to know if there are any who claim that forest under their protection. It would do no good to anger elves or some other party. Also I need to find people to get in touch to help design the fortress. That is not my strong suit. I can help from a tactics stand point, but that is about it. Then quality of the workers do we want skilled workers like dwarves and build a stone fortress or will a wooden structure do? I am sure there are more issues to think of at the moment, but I can not think of them off the top of my head. Your input would be helpful on this or perhaps someone who helped with the building and forticification of this city. |
| #65zombiegleemaxJan 19, 2005 20:29:29 | Lord Malifaeyr nods, and taps the map with one neatly-manicured forefinger. This is the best spot for the fortress, this hill. The river provides a natural fortification on one side, as well as a water source and potential trade route. Since I don't feel we have time to wait while you have this built manually, I will assist by raising the walls magically. Furnishing and staffing it will be up to you, as well as any future modifications. There are no elves there, Sir Shadowood. Some peasant mutterings of 'hauntings,' which have discouraged settlements, as well as sightings of wolves. |
| #66darkar_shadowood_dupJan 19, 2005 20:33:31 | Yes, I recently got a report of that area where thieves and undead are plundering and killing. I am going with a group to investigate and take care of the problem. I think there were wolves mentioned as well, normal wolves or the shape changers that Ms. Amberhawke once faced I am not sure. |
| #67zombiegleemaxJan 19, 2005 20:45:54 | Excellent! Then you can reconnoiter the area before you go in and start clearing the land for the building. Undead? That might explain the rumours of hauntings, eh? You know the precautions to take, I'm sure. When are you leaving? |
| #68darkar_shadowood_dupJan 19, 2005 20:50:08 | Within a few days, I am waiting to hear back from some of the people I contacted to help out with this. I have Jace Cornwall and Kai an elf who first reported this disturbance coming along to help out. |
| #69zombiegleemaxJan 19, 2005 22:43:43 | With a slight wave of his hand, Lord Malifaeyr replies, Yes, I'm sure you'll choose your companions well. I'll be anxious to hear your report. You may stay and study the map further if you wish, I have a meeting to attend now. |
| #70darkar_shadowood_dupJan 19, 2005 22:57:03 | Darkar bows as Lord Malifaeyr leaves, and then he studies the map. Taking some parchment Darkar does his best to represent the hill and surrounding area so he can find someone to advise him how this fortress should be raised. With the parchment in his pocket the elf heads back to the Jackal compound. |
| #71zombiegleemaxMar 10, 2005 19:11:46 | The young man nears the palace gates, his blue bouncing bullet-headed lizard keeping pace on a leash. He could sense the reptiles discontent at the restraint, but there can be no taking chances on an issue as sensitive as this one. "Behave, Zap. Very important." He commands. Greeting the guards calmly as he approaches he immediately assures them the creature is harmless, and the purpose he is here is to attain a license for her. "Could you point me in the right direction?" After locating the office he waits a little before being called upon, then goes through the process of attaining the license. This consists of a demonstration of obedience, a lecture on etiquette, paying a sizable liability tax, and signing six times on thirteen pages of document outlining a broad array of "what-ifs" and there own liabilities. The process taking much longer than expected, Tynk is glad when it ends with a direct warning. Clerk: "Let me remind you that the lizard is your responsibility henceforth. Failure to keep her civil places the blame solely on you. Please use discretion in keeping her, else the license may be revoked and liabilities enforced." Eye contact and a slow nod show his serious attitude to see no such ill become. "Yes mam." [/i]He exits, stopping to bend down to his lizard and remove the leash and attach the ID pendant. As they continue the two have a slow exchange...a seesaw of a few snaps between them. Zap "His charge is small, but you think big. I've seen your snap! Why swallow strength?" . o O(Swallow strength? Oh, she means bite my tongue...) "Remember telling of your small snaps to alert friends. Well he calls many with big ones, and tells me your welcome to the city." "'cause he knows I'm big charge!" He laughs, a short wizzz of snaps the makes his lips tickle, then makes his way to the church of Agathalos to study. |

| #80darkar_shadowood_dupSep 19, 2005 17:55:11 | Malifaeyr enters quietly -- and alone -- in the midst of their conversation. Allegion reaches out to stand, but his lord raises a hand to stop him. "Please, no need to get up. We've got a lot to cover today, so we may as well make ourselves comfortable. Sir Allegion, it's a relief to see you well." "You have Sir Darkar and the others to thank for that, my lord." "Quite so. Sir Darkar, Lady Silmarwen, I cannot thank you enough." "We were not expecting to find survivors, milord," Darkar admits. "The gnome in charge had undead at his disposal. One was another Jackal at some point. Needless to say we were suspicious when we first found him." "That and the prisoner we capture did not mention any prisoners when we questioned him." Silmarwen adds. Both Malifaeyr and Allegion nod at Darkar's statement, then stop to ponder Silmarwen's. "How very odd," says Malifaeyr. "Indeed, it seems strange enough that the enemy would keep such a prisoner for so long with no word to us. But then so much of this is strange. What do you make of it, Allegion?" "I can't be entirely certain, my lord," the paladin replies. "You lose all sense of time if separated from the sun for too long and the..." Allegion sets his jaw. "Suffice it to say, there was torture. I would prefer to say no more than that of what I endured -- the specifics are not an appropriate subject to your company, milords, milady. What I will say is that I can no longer recall all that has occured. I don't know how I came to be where Sir Darkar's group found me, for example." Silmarwen listens intently, with great interest "I see," says Malifaeyr, pursing his lips. "Do you recall this gnome at all?" "Yes. I cannot say he was a pleasant sort. He had many questions about the area." ""And what did you tell him?" "My lord, I swear to you, I spoke not a word to him, nor indeed to any of my captors, that was not of my defiance for their cause." Silmarwen silently wonders what could have been said when was not aware of his surroundings. She looks very concerned at this thought. Darkar wonders the same thing, but does not have the same tact as Silmarwen. "What about when you were unsure of what was happening to you?" "This a good point," Malifaeyr admits, hesitating ever so slightly before he speaks again. "You did just say there are things you don't recall." Allegion nods, appearing to go into deep thought. "So can you be sure you didn't say anything else at those times?" After a long pause, Allegion answers, "Milord, if I betrayed you, I am certain that I would know it. Even if I could not remember having done so, such a thing would surely continue to weigh deeply on my heart. Further, if our enemies had what they wanted from me -- knowing what they are like -- I doubt they would have left me to live for so long." And now Malifaeyr appears to think deeply on what has been said. "It sounds reasonable," Darkar suggests "although it might have not made much sense while you were being tortured. They might have been trying to make sense of what they learned and keeping you around if you started to make more sense?" Silmarwen suggests something else. "What could they have possibly learned that might still be useful after all this time has passed?" "...Perhaps..." Allegion admits. "The gnome was more inquisitive than I recall those before him to be, but I can't confirm that to be the cases. The orcs seldom spoke a word I could understand unless it was an insult or a command. The elf, however... what little I do remember her saying was odd." "Such as?" Malifaeyr prompts. "Well... she thanked me for defying her. She said... it was the most curious thing... she said I couldn't imagine how helpful that made me. And then she said... 'I do hope you won't break before we find a replacement. That could take ages.' And then she cast some spell -- and seemed genuinely pleased that it did nothing. Oh, I felt a tingle as though she'd tried to bend my will to hers with magic, but if she'd been successful, I'd never have noticed even that." "That is odd," Darkar agrees, "...almost like she was looking for something for a demonstartion." "Perhaps," Allegion allows, "but to what end? Perhaps she only wanted to try to put me off guard." "It sounds almost like you were supporting some idea with your resistance, thus making her seem right," suggests Silmarwen. "However I am not sure what that could be." "Yes, but I fail to see how that helped them any." "I can't fathom it at the moment either," admits Malifaeyr, "but we can come back to it later. What did the gnome want to know?" "He asked about our numbers -- as though I could tell him much by then! He asked if we could have allied ourselves more closely to the elves in the wake of our defeat, which I admit is a question that also has me curious. The only Jackal I recognized in my rescue party was Sir Darkar, but more than half of them were elves, if I'm not mistaken." "Most of our group was Silver Sword, milord," Darkar corrects him. "Two of them came to me after encountering the gnomes and kobolds skeletons." "I see," Allegion replies, "and I ask your pardon for the assumption." "No offense taken," Darkar allows, "just explaining the situation." "Perhaps it would be best if we heard your report now, Sir Darkar," Malifaeyr suggests. "It might help us determine our next course of action." "When we got near where the gnomes were seen, I sent out a scouting party. The wizard sent his raven to keep watch so we could find out if there was a problem. I am not entirely sure what happened; all I know is that we got a report that there was trouble and hurried after them to assist." |

The wizard sent his raven to keep watch so we could find out if there was a problem. I am not entirely sure what happened; all I know is that we got a report that there was trouble and hurried after them to assist." "It was a very long run to try and assist our companions. Ran the fastest of our group was the first to arrive. He discovered three of our party with varied injuries, and Jace one of the scouts; who informed me of the problem in the first place missing. Upon arriving we learned what had happened. The scouting party split to try and cover more ground. One group ran into a large wolf and was forced to fight for their survival. Unfortunately the noise from the fight alerted the gnomes and kobolds to their presence. Jace and Lucian were ambushed and entangled as one gnome caused the plants to come alive and ensare them. Words were exchange and I believe that gnome freed them and sent more wolves after them. I think that the other scouting group of Anaya and Kai heard the commotion and went to investigate. They arrived but before they did something happened and Jace was taken captive by the enemy. I am not entirely sure of the details. Lucian was not overly verbose, it seemed he was in shock. Silmarwen tended to the wounded, and we were trying to determine the best course of action to rescue Jace. There was a serious debate on whether to go immediately after them or wait until we could rest and be fully prepared to attempt a rescue. We finally decided that it was imperative not to give them any time to heal or fortify their defenses. Also I was concerned that it seemed that from Jace's information that one gnome could create undead and that it seemed one of the reasons that were attacking travelers. I was not prepared to let them turn one of our party into something monsterous. he exclaims vehemently. Darkar pauses and excuses himself to take a drink, and calm himself. |

Setting down his drink continues, after unclenching his jaw. We continued pursuit, and evaded a group of skeletons thanks in part to Silmarwen. We wished to avoid announcing our presence too early, we reached an area where we thought they had taken Jace. I searched the area for traps, and found a pit near the enterance. Carefully avoiding that we entered the cave, leaving some of the group as a rear guard. We found the way difficult the ceiling being very low. We startled a sentry who quickly ran off. I tried to purse but a portcullis dropped quickly preventing pursuit. It took several long moments to raise the portcullis, but I still tried to find out where the passage led not knowing anywhere else to go. Silmarwen interjects at this point Around this outside we heard others approaching in the distance, and we readied ourselves for an attack from behind. It seems that they were trying to pin us in an bottle neck for an ambush. However we were prepared and were ready to defend ourselves. Darkar continues I continued and heard strange whispers and thought they were lying in wait. I proceeded with caution but was not prepared for the attacks. I was caught between two attackers and a mage shooting glowing orbs into me. We were forced to try and retreat back outside. The mage took advantage of us all standing in a line and fired lighting at us. Several among us were injured, as we continued to retreat. A second bolt hit and one of own Kai dropped charred. I grabbed hold and drug him out of the cave. The low prevented me from getting out before a third arc raced down the cave striking the unconcious Kai fully. All hope for saving him passed at that point sadly. Silmarwen continues while Darkar sits slightly dejected for a moment. We had routed the attackers outside, and I heard the commotion coming from the cave. I moved to help those exiting, unfortunately one was already beyond my ablity to render aid. The mage Cassius I helped first, and as soon as Darkar was clear Cassius returned the favor to the mage still within the cave with his own lighting that he sent thundering down the tunnel. |
| #83darkar_shadowood_dupOct 16, 2005 16:19:20 | Silmarwen continues "After deciding that going in the cramped cave was an extremely bad idea. We set off after the Kobolds that ran, and found an enterance that was easier for us to access. Moving as a group we fought our way to a small area where the mage Cassius preformed a bit of magic that caught part of our own group that caused them to temporarily lose their hearing. Darkar and Ran heard, a gong I think but did not realize that the rest of us did not. Insisting that time was running short we hurried to an area that was where the group was ambushed earlier. Darkar went up the stairs and engaged the enemy. When I reached the room where the battle was raging and moved to tend to Jace I realized something was wrong. I was unable to articulate any words, and I could not hear any sound either. We were doing alright in the battle driving back the undead, but then the cleric of Demmion did something that affected us all. We were all injured, and the undead were strengthened. I think that is what finished off the young man Jace. He was alive but unconcious when I got to him. Ran and Darkar tried to work together to finish off the cleric, but his armor was quiet effective at turning away their blows. He escaped behind a door that had a symbol that caused everyone immense pain and suffering. Darkar was unrelenting trying to follow after the gnome until he realized that the battle was still raging behind him. We cleared the room of the undead creatures, and took leave of the place. After resting we came back to the caves, and found the remains of the gnome's cruelty. The had slaughtered the women and children kobolds that they were using to keep the men in check. Only a lone child survived that was shielded by his mother. Finding no one left we started a search where we quickly found Sir Allegion. He insisted that we bring him quickly back to the city so that he could report to you milord." With that Silmarwen pauses and looks to Darkar, who nods briefly in agreement with the story. |
| #84shatteredtowerOct 23, 2005 14:54:24 | "I see..." Lord Malifaeyr says after a lengthy pause. In a careful tone, he asks, "Was anyone left behind to secure the area against further enemy occupation?" |
| #85darkar_shadowood_dupOct 23, 2005 18:30:54 | Darkar replies, "No there was not anyone I was comfortable leaving on their own against whatever might return. It was very difficult for me to even get by the gnome's armor. Plus the undead creatures were difficult to attack as well it seemed, they seemed to resist the blows when attacked. |
| #86shatteredtowerOct 23, 2005 19:12:10 | "So you've reason to believe that there were more forces in the area, likely to return?" Lord Malifaeyr asks, then raises his hand, as if to still an objection. "Make no mistake, Sir Shadowood. I'm not faulting your decision. You'd had casualties by this point, and the rest of you had doubtless maintained injuries. I'm certain your spellcasters were also running low on resources. There's also the matter of Sir Allegion's retrieval." Malifaeyr pauses long enough to allow Allegion to comment. The knight responds with nothing more than a nod. "My only reason for asking," Malifaeyr continues,, "is to determine whether or not this site still poses a danger. I would prefer to use it or a similarly convenient location for a base of operations to guard against threats from Hents Manevelins." He stops to take a sip of his wine, then adds, "Or as a staging ground from which to attack it." |
| #87darkar_shadowood_dupOct 23, 2005 22:52:05 | "The hill seems like a highly defendable area. I think it is likely that others will return, the prisoner that we capture lead us to believe that the gnome in charge was well connected and that their mission there was important. That and the cramped areas inside the caves are difficult for humans, and elves to fight properly in. Sir Hermy, I don't think would be as hindered though. Or someone of similar stature like the gnomes." |
| #88shatteredtowerOct 24, 2005 23:36:10 | "Or someone granted the stature of gnomes..." Malifaeyr says musingly. He then shakes his head and changes the subject. "I'd like more information on this gnome that lead them. Lady Silmarwen, do you have any objections to speaking with the dead? The only one of your group that might have spent any time with this foe is no longer with us, but if there is any way we could learn more from him, I would be... appreciative." |
| #89darkar_shadowood_dupOct 25, 2005 13:15:29 | I do not have any objections, but the information will be limited to what Jace knew when he was alive. Also if they were talking and he could not understand what they were saying he will still not know what was said. There will also be a limited amount of time that we can ask questions, it is quite taxing to keep it going. Silmarwen states |
| #90shatteredtowerOct 25, 2005 21:30:40 | "Hmm," says Malifaeyr, brow furrowing with thought. "I understand. It's a chance we must take, however. More may yet be required, but let us start there. How long would you need to prepare?" |
| #91darkar_shadowood_dupOct 25, 2005 21:39:06 | I could be ready to with the incantation to do this by breakfast time tomorrow. Would that be enough time for you to prepare your questions? |
| #92shatteredtowerOct 25, 2005 23:06:02 | "Plenty of time," Malifaeyr confirms. "Now is there anything else that needs to be addressed today? I've taken up so much of your time already, after all." |
| #93cassius_gaia_dupOct 25, 2005 23:13:29 | As Darkar and Silmarwen leave the palace a large Raven lands on Darkar's shoulder " CAW, Cassius would like to know when we are going back to finish that little priest creature" |
| #94darkar_shadowood_dupOct 28, 2005 21:33:42 | Not sure the exact time, but we have somethings to do over the next few days to be better prepaired. |
| #95darkar_shadowood_dupOct 29, 2005 23:25:00 | If he wanted to meet us at the Last Lich for some dinner I would be happy to discuss options with him for preparing to go back. |
| #96darkar_shadowood_dupOct 29, 2005 23:29:48 | After preparing, Silmarwen returns to the palace along with Darkar so that any information that Jace might have learned might be gathered. |
| #97cassius_gaia_dupOct 31, 2005 23:17:48 | If he wanted to meet us at the Last Lich for some dinner I would be happy to discuss options with him for preparing to go back. CAW That won't be possible he locked himself in the tower searching for a new spell. He be not happy about the warded room. He wants me to tag after you. Keep an eye out for him so to speak |
| #98darkar_shadowood_dupNov 02, 2005 12:13:30 | I see, well tell him he shouldn't spend all of his time locked away. It isn't very good for him. By the way Lord Malifaeyr mentioned having the stature of the gnomes, ask Cassius if he knows of a way to make us that size. I took a potion once that made me the size of a child. That would be a good way to negate our height disadvantage if we needed to fight in the caves again. |
| #99cassius_gaia_dupNov 03, 2005 12:58:11 | "Caw ..i'll ask him, where do I find you tomorrow caw" |
| #100darkar_shadowood_dupNov 03, 2005 14:34:18 | Either here at the palace or at the Jackal compound. |
| #101darkar_shadowood_dupNov 05, 2005 14:05:45 | Was the questioning of Jace going to take place here? Silmarwen asks Darkar I am not sure, but I believe we were supposed to met Lord Malifaeyr here. replies Darkar |
| #102shatteredtowerNov 06, 2005 11:01:33 | Malifaeyr, accompanied by a pair of pages, soon comes out to greet the elves personally. "Good morning to you both. Are we all prepared for the task ahead of us?" |
| #103darkar_shadowood_dupNov 06, 2005 12:28:10 | Good morning Lord Malifaeyr, and yes I am well prepared for the task ahead of us. Darkar nods in agreement. |
| #104shatteredtowerNov 06, 2005 17:12:21 | "Excellent," says Malifaeyr. "I'd arranged to have Mr. Cornwall to be placed in the Jackal crypts for now. It will offer us the privacy we'll need. If you'll both come this way..." Lord Malifaeyr leads the elves into the vaults beneath the Jackal quarters. As he prepares to open the great door sealing this place from intrusion, he turns to his pages. "Lads, please wait for us upstairs. I would prefer that no one disturbs us, is that clear?" The boys manage to look both disappointed and relieved at their lord's request, but are quick to obey. With a bow, they are gone. Malifaeyr turns to the others. "Now then... Sir Darkar, your hand with the door please? It sometimes sticks just a bit. Ah, there we go. Sister Silmarwen, I understand that there is a limit to the number of questions we'll be able to have answered. May I ask what that limit is?" Light flickers from a row of enconced torches as he closes the door behind them. |
| #105cassius_gaia_dupNov 07, 2005 7:39:14 | A dark bird lands on darkar's shoulder just moments before he enters the crypt "CAW Cassius asks if it is ok for me to stick around, he's curious about the answers as well. Oh and he might know a trick to get a few of you big folk down to goblin size" |
| #106shatteredtowerNov 08, 2005 1:29:06 | Malifaeyr stares at the bird for a moment, then turns to Darkar. "I don't believe we've been introduced," he remarks wryly. |
| #107cassius_gaia_dupNov 08, 2005 23:15:13 | Curiously the bird hops down to the floor and manages an awkward sort of bow to the Lord CAW My name is Crebain m'Lord and although we have never been formally introduced I believe we've met before. I am the Familiar of the wizard Cassius Gaia. The bird hops on Darkars shoulder again CAW Cassius is going to need cash to buy some scrolls for the gnome stature thing if you still want to go for that line of thought. He says that spells like that usually don't last that long |
| #108shatteredtowerNov 09, 2005 1:22:45 | Malifaeyr returns a half bow to the raven. "Ah, yes, I recall that name from Sir Darkar's report. Very well, Crebain. Unless the Lady Silmarwen has cause to object to your presence in these proceedings, I see no reason I should either." |
| #109cassius_gaia_dupNov 12, 2005 5:45:49 | CAW Thank you m'lord |
| #110darkar_shadowood_dupNov 12, 2005 14:51:49 | Malifaeyr turns to the others. Once I cast the spell you will be able to ask Jace's body four questions, he might ramble on a bit or simply not know the answer. Also once cast it will last about ten minutes and then will expire. Darkar makes a move to the door when Crebain lands on his shoulder. Hello, again Crebain. Well I think we will have to drop by and discuss the specific costs with Cassius about the scrolls. We will only need them to fight in the cave so I doubt the short time will matter much. after Lord Malifaeyr is informed what is happening. |
| #111shatteredtowerNov 12, 2005 16:20:50 | "Yes, what you've described of the passages and their defenders indicates that this could likely be the soundest strategy," Malifaeyr admits. "I will arrange for the scroll. I trust that one will be sufficient?" |
| #112darkar_shadowood_dupNov 12, 2005 17:01:02 | In all probability yes it should be sufficent. I don't see any potential fight lasting more than a few minutes at the most. Begins to pulling to open the crypt door. |
| #113shatteredtowerNov 13, 2005 12:47:49 | Once inside, Malifaeyr closes the door once more, leaving them in chambers lit by rows of torches. This is curious enough, but Darkar notices one other thing: there are no traces of soot on the wall around the sconces. Malifaeyr walks over to a shrouded body. "Here he is. Will you need the shroud removed for this?" |
| #114darkar_shadowood_dupNov 13, 2005 13:24:48 | "None of these torches go out, no trace of soot, must be like Silmarwen's torch." Darkar muses Silmarwen walks over to Jace's corpse and pulls the shroud down from his face. "It might be a bit easier to understand him without the shroud covering his face." Silmarwen begins the prayer that will allow them to speak with Jace's dead body. OOC Will Save = 17, if it matters. |
| #115shatteredtowerNov 13, 2005 13:51:02 | "Will I need to give you the questions before we start, or can I ask them as we go?" Malifaeyr asks. |
| #116darkar_shadowood_dupNov 13, 2005 13:53:41 | "I think that I would need to ask the questions. I have not seen it done another way before." |
| #117shatteredtowerNov 13, 2005 14:07:57 | "Well, yes," Lord Malifaeyr says, "but what I mean is: Do you need to know all of the questions before we start or can I provide them to you one at a time, allowing me to tailor each based on the previous answer?" |
| #118darkar_shadowood_dupNov 13, 2005 14:15:51 | It would be more informative if you waited for the answer, I would think. I do not mind waiting a moment for the new question after the answer. The only problem might be the ten minute time limit. However the potential for more useful information from better questions seems worth the risk. |
| #119shatteredtowerNov 13, 2005 14:45:50 | "That should be long enough for four questions," Lord Malifaeyr admits. "I doubt we'll get long answers anyway. Let's start with: Did the gnome -- no, let me try that again -- While you were captured, what did the gnome say to you?" OoC: Jace might prefer to handle this part. It might not be possible to coordinate times, but I'd like to give it a try. Besides, it gives Cassius a chance to keep up a little more easily. ;) |
| #120darkar_shadowood_dupNov 13, 2005 14:48:45 | Silmarwen turns to Jace's corpse and repeats the question. "While you were captured what did the gnome priest say to you?" OoC Sounds good to me. |
| #121jace_cornwallNov 13, 2005 20:15:34 | *Jace's mouth opens, and draws in a slow dry rattley breath. Some of his wounds which are now dry and cracked reopen and let out a little more blood. The flickering light dances across his dark face while a voice very much unlike his own comes of his dry cracked and bloodied lips. A voice devoid of any sort of emotion* "He fixed me to make Jace praise the All-glorious Kakodemmion, Lord of Death and War, and the Light of Darkness. I will be living dead forever. It will be an honor he said." "Jace will be alive and my agony and blood will open gateway, blood and agony will make his blessings come. Jace will praise the Light of Darkness. When its over I will rise again. But will not be me, Jace will not be Jace. Jace is gone. Forever gone." "Human thinks foul of me. The gnome is close to Darkness. Favored by Endless Fire." "Come, young one." "Hear now to glorious words of Kakodemmion." *The voice coming from Jace's body changes, to a different tone. This sounds more like a chant coming from a person who has only heard it once, and if forced to repeat it. Very mumbled and choppy* “All hail to the Son The powerful, the .... Stands up to the sky Looking ... eyes of ... fire Whose feet crash on us, destroying the faithless With infernos of ... All hail to He who will salt earth... And bring ...from yesterday.” *The voice returns to the first tone.* "Bells, Bells. the sound of bells." "Stop for now human, Something upsets the slaves." *Jace's body lets the rest of the air out of his pierced lungs, and his mouth closes again.* |
| #122shatteredtowerNov 13, 2005 21:05:16 | "That was quite the experience," Lord Malifaeyr says, though whether he speaks of the present or the past is unclear. "Not quite what I was hoping to learn, but worth noting. Did anyone else speak to -- excuse me, I forget myself, Lady Silmarwen. I need to know if there was anyone else who spoke to him while he was captive. Let me see... no, put it like that: Did anyone else indicate any sort of plans while he was held captive?" |
| #123darkar_shadowood_dupNov 14, 2005 1:52:53 | Silmarwen frowns at the troubling thought that they were correct in assuming the gnome was planning to make Jace one of the foul undead. Turning she nods to Lord Malifaeyr and asks the next question. Jace, did anyone else indicate any sort of plans while you were held captive?" |
| #124jace_cornwallNov 14, 2005 11:55:03 | *Again Jace's mouth opens, and the unwolrdly voice comes out of his lips.* "Very good, Xakko, you may return to your patrol. Kill the rest, the kobolds are getting hungry. Says the Gnome, to the Gnome." "Kill the others, Jace's friends...Kill them. Jace's friends are comming to help." "Come, young one... The lizard, The big black lizard, the lizard with wings comes and stands next to master...Master smiles and says to hear the glorious words of Kakodemmion." "Plans no more...no more plans." |
| #125shatteredtowerNov 14, 2005 18:58:44 | "That's not much help, then," Malifaeyr muses. "Wait. Did he hear anything about Allegion?" |
| #126darkar_shadowood_dupNov 14, 2005 19:15:44 | "Jace did you hear anything regarding Sir Allegion?" |
| #127jace_cornwallNov 14, 2005 20:18:15 | "No, Jace knows no Sir Allegion." |
| #128shatteredtowerNov 14, 2005 21:09:06 | "I find myself at a loss," Malifaeyr confesses, turning to the others. "Can anyone else suggest a question?" |
| #129darkar_shadowood_dupNov 14, 2005 21:29:39 | I do not have anything that seems relevant at the moment. states Darkar |
| #130shatteredtowerNov 14, 2005 22:52:19 | "All right then. I don't see much choice here. Ask him what he'd want if he'd died and been given a second chance at life." |
| #131darkar_shadowood_dupNov 14, 2005 23:17:59 | "Jace what would you have wanted if you had died, and been given a second chance at life?" |
| #132jace_cornwallNov 14, 2005 23:24:18 | "I would want to contunie on. Jace would continue with his friends." *With the ending of the spell, Jace's mouth is left open. The excess of air that was left in his lungs slowly seeps out in a soft hiss.* |
| #133shatteredtowerNov 14, 2005 23:37:19 | "And that appears to be that. Your pardon, Darkar, Silmarwen, but with the man's consent, it is in our best interests to bring him back. Allegion's presence in such a place, after all this time.. it just felt wrong to me. If there's a chance this fellow knowns more, I need to explore it." |
| #134darkar_shadowood_dupNov 14, 2005 23:44:21 | Darkar shrugs "I have no objections to it." Silmarwen frowns "It is your decision, but I would prefer not to be present for it when it happens." |
| #135shatteredtowerNov 15, 2005 7:38:48 | "As you wish," Malifaeyr agrees. "However, I have another matter I wish to discuss with you, and this may be the best time. It's a matter I wish for you all to hold in the strictest confidence." He looks to all three of them, waiting for their acknowledgement. |
| #136darkar_shadowood_dupNov 15, 2005 15:16:26 | Both, Darkar and Silmarwen agree to listen and hold what Lord Malifaeyr says in confidence. |
| #137shatteredtowerNov 15, 2005 16:17:40 | "I apologize, Master Raven," Malifaeyr says to Crebain, "but upon reflection, I realize that this must remain an internal matter for the moment. I have no objections if Sir Darkar feels confident in sharing what we discuss here, but that is to be determined after our conversation." The raven sounds mildly annoyed at the decision, but replies, "Very well, milord, but someone's going to have to get the door for me." |
| #138darkar_shadowood_dupNov 15, 2005 18:00:58 | Darkar moves and opens the door for Crebain to fly out, and once he is gone Darkar closes the door again moving back to Lord Malifaeyr. |
| #139shatteredtowerNov 15, 2005 19:18:53 | OoC: Sorry, Cass. It both seemed appropriate and the easiest way to move things along. They'll catch up to you soon enough. ;) |
| #140darkar_shadowood_dupNov 15, 2005 20:24:25 | Honestly, I did not meet him before finding him in chains, but some of the questions that he asked about the doings in the city striked me as odd. If I were suspicious, I would have he was checking his facts for accuracey, but he did seem rather worn and distrested when found. It might have been a need to have any conversation that was unrelated to his captors. |
| #141shatteredtowerNov 15, 2005 23:08:12 | "I'm not entirely sure that is Allegion," Malifaeyr says quietly. "There are... spells that can create a duplicate of a creature, one subservient to the creator. Little things can sometimes give the duplicate away -- small irregularities in the appearance or manner, as well as gaps in what one recalls. I realize it may just be the marks left on him by an ordeal that... well, I hesitate to imagine what he's endured, but it could account for the things I've noticed. "However, in case my suspicions are correct, I need him kept preoccupied for now, until I can determine the truth for certain. It also needs to be handled in a fashion that won't arouse his suspicions." Malifaeyr pauses to look between the two elves again. "Suggestions would be appreciated." |
| #142darkar_shadowood_dupNov 16, 2005 12:36:11 | Would a duplicate be able to use to do all of the things that Sir Allegion did? As a paladin of Thalos doesn't he have some gifts that normal men do not have? inquires Darkar "Well have we learned any more about the connection between Hardaja and the pass? Perhaps we could have Sir Allegion search into that. Not leave the city, but searching old tomes, scrolls, and books. Silmarwen suggests |
| #143shatteredtowerNov 20, 2005 10:38:59 | "There are means by which a double can duplicate the abilities of the original," Malifaeyr tells them. "So long as the double adheres to Allegion's code, it's likely to retain those abilities. It is possible that regular association with villains like that gnome could very well have compromised that code, but I can't just come out and ask him to put on a display for me. If I'm mistaken, my suspicions are enough of a slight to the man. I'd rather not offer greater insult on top of that." He considers Silmarwen's proposal with his chin resting on his hands, folding them behind his back as he gives his assessment. "An excellent suggestion. With a little effort, it could even throw him off the track, keeping him from determining how much we already know. Between that and refamiliarizing himself with the units -- and he'll insist on that, I'm sure, whether he's Allegion or not -- yes, that should keep him preoccupied most of the time. "We'll proceed with that idea for now. Let's be off. Your raven friend probably shouldn't be kept waiting too long." |
| #144shatteredtowerNov 23, 2005 8:36:27 | Several hours after he has concluded his discussion with Darkar and Silmarwen, Lord Malifaeyr returns to the Jackal crypts and to the ill-fated corpse with which they'd conferred several hours earlier. Gently placing a hand on the young man's chest, the nobleman pronouces a difficult syllable, followed by the words, "I wish to have this man's life restored to him." Dust swirls on the floor around him, slowly drawing into a pile. As it begins to form into unpleasant, though familiar shapes, Malifaeyr removes the shroud from Jace's cold body and drapes it over the pile, allowing it to continue its growth in greater privacy. Close to an hour later, Jace opens his eyes. OoC: And Jace will want to check his PMs before he posts. ;) |
| #145darkar_shadowood_dupNov 23, 2005 21:32:38 | Silmarwen and Darkar exit the crypt finding Crebain, explaining what has happened to him. They walk slowly from the palace headed back to the Jackal compound. |
| #146jace_cornwallNov 28, 2005 18:39:09 | *Jace’s eyes open to see a blanket covering him. There is cold stone under his cold body.* *Jaces body begins to shake in fear.* *His body begins shaking far more violently. He cannot breath right. At times he hyperventilates and others he cannot breath at all. His heart, beats so fast that all he can hear is his heart killing him, and other times he cannot even hear his own heart because it had stopped entirely. Jaces hands try to go to his clenching stomach. But he only twitches. He tries to cry out for help, but he only gags.* *His stomach clenches again, and something comes out.* *Jace spasms far more violently then ever and he eventually is able to gain a gasp of air only to feel the world spin around him.* The last calm thought that comes to Jace before the blackness and silence comes for him is. *With that thought Jace passes out.* ooc:There is more to follow. |
| #147jace_cornwallNov 29, 2005 0:37:29 | *Jace’s eyes open again. His body realizes that opening them was a terrible idea. The confused and terrified mans mind is assaulted by a vision of another world. Everything is too defined. To the point of giving him an instant splitting head ache. He can see too well. Its dark he should not be able to see so far. And then the sounds…even the crackling of the torches is painfully loud. Jace tries to move his hands to hold them over his ears to block out the too loud noises. But the movement makes him retch with nausea again. A groan escapes his lips and, is sounds alien.* *Jace begins to turn his head, but his vision screams in protest, and this strange and intimidating world once again disappears.* [5 minutes later] *Jaces ears are hurting.* .oO(I was captured. Sir Darkar had come. The skeleton…It bit me. Gnome, Kakodemion…Cave… “I will honor you with an eternity of serving him, raising you up in undeath.”…… “high in the favor of the Eternal Flame.”…….” “Obliterating the faithless with infernos of remorseless ire.”) *Jace struggles to move his head again but this time he is rewarded by the ability to do so.* *Jaces mouth opens and though the taste of vomit and bile a scream unlike anything Jace has ever made escapes down the halls of cold stone, echoing horribly throughout the room. When Jace’s ears stop ringing from that horrible alien scream he hears sobs of fear and pain..* *Jace then feels something slid down his face. Its him, Jace is crying and sobbing. This alien body is crying in fear.* *With all these questions in mind Jace fights for control over this body. After what feels to him an eternity he finally gains enough to turn over. The alien hair flops down into his face. It smells of vomit and sweat. Ignoring the hair Jace fights to crawl over to the table and reaches out his, no not his… the hand he has to use out to wrap these strange and pale fingers around the leg. Using the alien arm Jace levers himself up to see what lies upon the table. Once standing what little color that was left in his face drains away and the blood rushes from his extremities into his torso.* |
| #148jace_cornwallNov 29, 2005 19:46:34 | *His pupils contract, and his vision is impaired by it due to the lack of light. He can see like he is used to seeing. Jace reaches out and touches the dead bodies face. The alien hand reaches out and touches the face of his dead body. He can hear nothing save the blood rushing through his head. His fingers cannot feel what they are pressed against. His extremities have lost all feeling entirely. He cannot feel that his dead body is cold and lifeless. Jace just stands and watches as these strange fingers touch what his mind refuses to accept. His strange eyes move up and down the body that is his. Taking in the wounds. The bite marks from that skeleton on his face. He can still feel them piercing his skin. Jace sees his new hands begin to shake. He cannot feel his hands. He is so cold.* *Jace turns and tries to run but his legs give under him.* *Jaces ares draw up agains this strange and weak body to gain warmth. But there is non to be gained. The floor sucks out all heat from him.* *Jace crawls to a torch away from what his mind will not accept, away from what he cannot face. Once to the wall Jace works to get tall enough to get the torch down. Once down he crowds his body near to it but is rewarded by nothing. Time and time again Jace is denied what he needs and desires. Still clutching the icy torch, Jace runs down the corridor. In search for a door. His breath ragged.* *Jace leaves his body and the blanket behind. The latter completely forgotten. But the first burned into his memory for all time* ooc:I think a DM is needed from here. |
| #149shatteredtowerNov 30, 2005 19:25:48 | "Calm yourself, sire" Jace hears, before finally noticing the speaker, a richly dressed man in his middle years. "You're safe. Everything is all right now, though I'm afraid it will never be the same. I don't believe we've met, well, not in your lifetime, at least. I'm Lord Malifaeyr, the one Sir Darkar and the other Jackals serve." The man does not extend a hand or move toward Jace, maintaining a healthy distance between them. Jace can't tell if it's disinterest or caution. "I realize it's all quite confusing, but let's discuss it elsewhere. Would you care for dinner now? I'm sure the experience has left you famished." |
| #150jace_cornwallNov 30, 2005 21:13:11 | One of hte only things that kept Jace from reacting diffrently is the mention of Darkar...a friend...This voice may be a friend. .oO(How did I not notice the man before.) *Jace turns to see the one addressing him, having compleatly forgotton that he is unclothed.* "Darkar...Jackels...Yes I would like some food." .oO(What was I actually doing...what has happened. Stay aware Jace...) *A chill runs up his spine from the cold. After calming down a little more, he notices the unpleasant taste in his mouth and the state of his new hair. Jace now notices that he is unclothed again and he kneels down to save the Lord the sight.* "I would however like to clean up some." .oO(I speak diffrently now...what has happened...If this man will explain...but not yet...Over food.) |
| #151shatteredtowerNov 30, 2005 23:06:30 | Lord Malifaeyr looks confused for a moment, but recovers quickly. "Very well, then. I shall have the servants draw a bath at once, as well as some clothing laid out for you and someone to bring you to dinner when you are ready. The rest of your gear..." JHe gestures toward the corpse on the slab, which makes Jace aware of the fact that he has nothing but a shroud for attire. "... will be held for you at the end of the evening. We have much to discuss. Now, if you'll please follow me." Malifaeyr leaves the room, moving to open the vault door. |
| #152jace_cornwallDec 01, 2005 1:40:40 | *Jace moves to pick up the shroud and covers himself. Jace then steps in behind Lord Malifaeyr. Very consciously he avoids his dead body.* |
| #153jace_cornwallDec 08, 2005 12:24:53 | *After a very strange and a little bit clubsy bath. Jace dresses with the provided cloths, and steps outside the room. One of the servants are waiting for him outside of the door waiting to take him to get some food. He sits at the table and begins slowly eating. He sits and runs over what has happened and he finds that he can only remember parts of what has happened to him. Confused but no lo ger scared, just cautious Jace waits to see the man that he meet earlier.* |
| #154shatteredtowerDec 24, 2005 17:33:56 | The meal is fairly simple, beef and turnips with gravy, served with bread and wine. Malifaeyr asks Jace several questions about the site he and Darkar had visited, frowning occasionally when his guest can provide nothing more than speculation for an answer. After a time, Malifaeyr brings the subject around to Jace's new form, confirming that this transformation is permanent. He attempts to reassure the new elf by pointing out that his lifespan has just been greatly increased, but somehow the reassurance rings hollow. He suggests that Jace should talk with Darkar about the changes he's experienced, then switches to lighter subjects. Malifaeyr excuses himself before Jace has finished his meal, but not before he thanks Jace for his assistance and arranging for a carriage to wait to bring him back to the Silver Sword Guild once he has finished. OoC: Sorry, Jace, but I just don't have time or energy to play out a solo scene. Consider yourself free to return to regular play on your own as of this point. |
| #155jace_cornwallJan 18, 2006 14:05:23 | *Jace thanks Lord Malifaeyr, for his help, and for the meal. Disturbed but calm, Jace finishes the meal provided for him a little awkwardly with his new limbs. Jace then stands and leaves the room, and asks someone he finds, where he can get his gear back. The man leads Jace back to where his body lay, and pauses outside the door and give Jace a questioning look.* “Its ok, please lead the way.” *The man nods wordlessly and opens the door and stands aside.* “We will need to know what to do with your body sir.” *Jace nods and enters the room alone. The torches still line the walls, and the torch that he had pulled down, lies a little ways away from he is currently standing. He silently replaces the torch to the correct socket, and turns to where the old Jace lies. His steps echo around the room as he walks towards the body. Wordlessly and slowly, Jace removes his gear. With one last look, the new elf leaves the room bearing his possessions. The man, who escorted him back to the room, closes the door behind Jace.* “Burn the body please. I will go now. I believe that I can find my way to the carriage. Thank you for your help.” *With that Jace leaves to find the carriage, and finds his way there shortly and leaves to the Silver Sword.* |
