I run a Forgotten Realms campaign. However, I plan on having the players worldwalk to other planets including Oerth. I played Greyhawk a great deal when I was younger and it is my favorite setting next to the Realms.

I want to have this adventure focus on iconic points of the world. Of course a single adventure limits how much I can include.

I am thinking of having the players arrive in the City of Greyhawk and then journey to the City of Skulls (using a portion of that module to supplement the action).

Anyone have any ideas of a more iconic adventure location for Greyhawk than the City of Skulls? [I was considering the Bright Desert but they will be journeying to Athas so I don't want to overdue desert adventures].

Thank you for your input.

You will want something already written up, since detailing Rauxes, while a good idea, would be alot of work for little long term benefit to you. You could just use some of the Maze of Zaene series - since that is basically set in Rauxes before Ivid's fall, with the names changed to protect copyright.

Tovag Baragu would fit the bill possibly. Being a time and world traveling portal, they could even be involved with someone trying to use it to muster some power. It could be part of the reason they are world jumping...And there is a lot out there on it if you google it.

The Giant lairs are also iconic Greyhawk - Frost Giant Jarl and Fire Giant King especially.

Rel Astra could be an option if you want primarily role playing. Visit Drax the Invulnerable and consult with the Fiend-Sage.

Finally, I could see using Crypt of Lyzandred the Mad. A) He has powers acorss planes to capture whomever and B) you can end the capture after any number of encounters you choose.

Those are my quick thought. Also, see the link in my sig, to the Epic Greyhawk boards on Canonfire, where there is a list of 25 plot ideas - some of those could make good 1-shots... Here it is: http://www.canonfire.com/cfhtml/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1090

Wow, that's tough. Only one adventure before they leave Oerth behind? So many good choices...

'Against the Giants'? No, it's excellent but it isn't very specific - could happen in any world. Also, it has drow, and I'd wager they get enough drow-fighting at home. :P

The Saltmarsh trilogy? Too low-level. Barrier Peaks? Lord knows you don't want them traipsing off with high-tech... Truth is, not too many Greyhawk adventures focus on the setting itself.

Hm... how about the Slavelords? Of course, that'd mean they "arrive" in Greyhawk back in the 570s, but...

Yes I was going to suggest the slavelords. Those are tournament modules so should lend themselves to a session or two of adventure. Both A1 and A2 interesting terrain based encounters that should translate well to 4e.

Might as well start with A1, in case the players want to continue on.

I was looking at some of your sugestions Rob. All very interesting but I think more relevant for a Greyhawk Campaign. (Who knows maybe one day )

The slavelords is an interesting idea but what level is the module? I have found that 2E to 3.5 conversion is pretty close when it comes to module difficulty.

Right now my idea is this:

The characters will be looking for portions of the Rod of Seven parts which I have scattered across the multiverse (Oerth, Abeir-Toril, Athas, Krynn, Khorvaire and the planes).

One of the pieces of the rod is held by Belvour the IV. Being a realm of Law I figured this would be a likely place for it to end up. The characters worldwalk to the City of Greyhawk. Once there they use the piece of the Rod they do have to locate the piece on Oerth. (Of course they will spend some time in Greyhawk).

Once they arrive in Furyondy (this will be around the time period described in the City of Skulls), they will seek audience with the King. As it happens in the module, the King is looking for brave heroes to enter Dorakka and rescue (the Shield Land General whose name escapes me at the moment). Recognizing that the characters present an opportunity to not only free the General but to do so with no risk to precious forces needed within Furyondy itself, he agrees to trade the Rod fragment in return for their acceptance of the rescue mission Of course he will part with the Rod when the job is done.

What do you all think of that as a one shot? While it is tough to include all the greatness of Greyhawk (yes Lincoln I agree no Ray guns from the Barrier Peaks ) this will have the City of Greyhawk, maybe an encounter with one of the Circle of Eight, maybe an near miss with Iuz, whole roads paved with human skulls! How can you beat that?

that sounds like a dandy plan. I ran that module not too long ago...ok, looks like 2002....but still. There are some tough conversions in there for 3.5E.

Good luck

Not a problem. Pretty much every official adventure I have used for my 3.5 game has been a converted 2 ed module.
