Jan 01, 2009 18:45:06 I am running Greyhawk campaign based before the Great kingdom was formed. I don’t see Tiefling or Dragonborn fitting in to this setting. I would love any thoughts yall might have on my situation. I really don’t like Tiefling but I am open to any explanations that would allow Dragonborn...

Jan 01, 2009 18:50:23 Well Tiefling could simpy be used as they were before 4th edition.
Dragonborn could be a subrace of lizard folk perhaps.

Jan 01, 2009 23:21:22 I added the Dragonborn and Tiefling kingdoms to the Prehistory of the WoG (see my Sea of Dust forum thread using the link in my Sig). This gave me a way to include both races, and not mess with the setting I've loved for decades!

Jan 04, 2009 12:09:30 Great ideals thanks I think I have made up my mind. I don’t like Tiefling's so they are out for sure. If a player wants to play a Dragonborn since we are in Greyhawk’s pre history who is to say they did not have a long lost Kingdom...

Jan 04, 2009 16:47:46 Dragonborn can be fit in either as subrace of the reptile races (lizardmen, troglodytes), or even included as draconians as in Dragonlance.

(Dragonlance: dragon eggs get altered by magic to spawn several draconians instead of one dragon. This doesn't need to be evil magic as in DL, but a way of dragons to get loyal servants and guards. Draconians themselves cannot breed at all.)

Tieflings can be included as demonspawn, i.e. the offspring of the activities of succubi and incubi, which would carry a heavy social stigma besides making them very rare.

Jan 04, 2009 18:39:48 There's no reason why the dragonborn can't have their own lands in one of the areas that's "off the map". They'd be known but probably not very common in the usual areas of play, though it could just as easily be a case of the latest wave of migration (just as brought many of the human groups in).

Jan 07, 2009 10:41:00 There are plenty of pre-existing examples of tieflings among the lands of Iuz, the Horned Society, Bandit Lands, Almor, and among the Great Kingdom. You could also use them for the deranged Suel House Mahlel hidden in the Dreadwood.

I tacked on a retinue of dragonborn warriors to the personal guard of Resbin Dren Emondav of the March of Sterich, since she is from Zahind. There could also be dragonborn from nations along the Bakhoury Coast in the Baklunish coastal cities.

Overall the ancient Empire background doesn't fit Greyhawk tieflings at all and if it is used for dragonborn, then they have to be 'out west'. Placing them in the western Sea of Dust is quite a cool idea.

Generally, any player wanting to play one of these is going to be in a 'fish out of water' scenario when travelling in Eastern Oerik.
