For me, it was reading over all of the humanoid monsters and smiling at all the awesome. You see, one of my favorite spots for adventuring is the Pomarj. I love the story of orcs and goblins completely overunning a country at home while their military was busy clearing out the goblinoids from their caves. Its got all the gnolls you could ask for on top of long lost cities and mines. What's not to love?

But it always fell kind of flat for me in earlier editions since eventually even a few hundred orcs is just target practice for the wizard. But with the 4e types, I can keep scaling up the goblinoids from kobolds to ogres through to paragon levels and maybe a little further. Moreover, each type has its own tactics and skills now so the gnolls aren't just goblins with more hit points.

To top it off, the most likely place for adventurers to come from are the Uleks where demi-humans predominate. So that optimized party with an elf, dwarf, eladrin, tiefling and maybe a token human actually fits the demographics instead of being a weird aberration.

As soon as I can get a regular gaming group together, they are heading into the Pomarj. :D

Right on - that is a definite improvement in 4E. You could set the new Scales of War Adventure Path there. I have it set in Sterich, but either way. The battles with the goblins and hobgoblins in the first were great, but I am looking forward to the orcs in the second - there are some nasty ones, including Orogs! They FEEL like orcs too with their powers and tactics.

The Slavers series could also be run with the new monsters. I think that would be a great set of adventures to do for this.

Good luck. My group really enjoys 4E - they can go longer at low level, but still feel like little fish in a big pond.

Does anyone else think that Tieflings are a perfect race to have their origin in the Horned Society?
Just replace the fluff from the PHB and Races & Classes to being tHS instead of Bael Turath, and you're set!

Horned Society and the Bone March - and possibly even Scarlet Brotherhood as the result of "accidents". If it weren't for the difference between demon and devil in 4E, I might even go for putting them in Iuz's lands too.

My Dragonborn come from the Pinnacles of Azro'Alq, but basically I don't have any in the mainland, and the one PC is "the first" anyone has seen. Well, actually, the second. I had a player playing half-dragon in 3E, and he was the first, and that story takes place 15 years before my 4E story, so there is a connection, but it is not common to see a Dragonborn in my Greyhawk.

Agreed, as it seems that they should be from across the ocean, or possibly from Hepmonaland or Amedio.

I'm just hoping my PC Wizard will survive to build a flying ship...His quest for Godhood culminating in the crafting of a Flying Ship (cost: 20,000,000gp / construction time: 100 years).

Darowyn, God of Sailing, Trade, and Exploration.

tieflings don't really fit for SB

I disagree. They may not fit for the public face of the SB, but they are perfect for the behind the scenes manipulators. Suel racism is just the kind of thing they would prey upon to shore up power.

They could also be the result of genetic experimentation, a common SB theme as well. Imagine a PC as an escaped experiment - good times....

Gooday

For Tieflings I was thinking of Horned Society for pre-wars campaigns, but they could have been coming from the See of Medegia for years.

For Dragonborn I was thinking from across the sea to the south. Maybe over the lat 10 years they came to Keoland and Prinicipality of Ulek (the gods know they could use the help down that way)

Arkhosia and Bael Turath could simply be across the sea to the south or east. No planar travel necessary, just a long sea journey. Wizards of the Spiral Tower could be a Guild in Celene.

As for what i'm itching to try, i've been downloading the Classic Greyhawk modules like Temple of Elemental Evil, Tomb of Horrors, Descent Into the Earth, Against the Giants etc, and running them on Greyhawk with 4th edition.

Probably run them Pre Wars, but some may fit in post wars with the Dragonborn immigrants available aswell.

As a player, try a Paladin fighting the Hordes of Iuz or Ranger/Rogue against the foulness taken over Sterich.

Happy gaming!

P.S - If you don't know where you can download GH 2nd and 1st edition stuff cheaply, www.drivethrurpg.com, most things are $5 US each.
