I'd give it hand crossbow stats.

I would do it a little different. I would rule it as a 2d6 dmg, because pistols are very nasty, but require a move action to reload it, so it would be essentially a "draw the magnum, shoot, drop it and proceed with combat", which was kind of how one on one combat worked.

Also, it must be a simple weapon, not a martial weapon.

4e has the d6 crossbow as a free load
and the d8 crossbow as Minor,
but using a power you can not worry about loadtimes....

comparing the yank string and set bolt activity of loading crossbow
and the break-top and slip in new 357mag activity of loading pistol
I could see them on par for loading and powers-ing

Note: d20Modern gave 357mag pistols 2d6

The d6 one is actually labeled "Hand crossbow". The d8 one is labled "Crossbow".

I don't know much about guns, but for a quick and dirty I'd still use the hand crossbow. Both can be fired one-handed, both require two hands to reload. Sounds about right to me. Simple, quick, balanced, done.

That's not to say that I think it's the only way or the best way to convert the weapon. But if I was to make additional modifications, I would have to have some definate design goals in mind.

Wait a sec
the d6 is a Hand Crossbow, and the d8 is a regular crossbow...
where is the Heavy crossbow?

Heavy crossbows are gone (and good riddance). The AV has superior and repeating crossbows though.

ok, so if the 357mag pistol will use the d6HandCrossbow stats
what should the 44mag/50ae/500sw supermags get ... the other d8Crossbow stats?

Like I said, I know next to nothing about guns other than you put bullets in them and shot stuff. What I do know, however, is that if you decide to introduce a weapon, replicating the weapon's real-life capabilities should be secondary to creating balanced, functional stats.

But that's probably more indirect then what you were looking for. So try this:

Can the gun be properly fired in one hand? Use hand crossbow stats. Do you need two hands to properly fire it? Use crossbow stats. Is it a 2H gun that can fire multiple shots before reloading? Use repeating crossbow stats. Is it a BFG? Use superior crossbow stats.

For a more customized solution, search the Homebrew boards. There have been several homebrewed solutions for including guns in 4e posted there.
