Dryadwood (a tree that when it dies from too much railfall gets a large swelling at the base of an otherwise dead trunk that looks a lot like some sort of Dryad sized cocoon. Its actually a yellow fungus spore - Environment: Equatorial/Light-High rainfall). |
| #2rommeltasticAug 28, 2009 7:37:00 | 3 - Silverwood . These trees are normal in almost every way, but their sap is host to a large number of insects. Which in turn attracts a particular type of spider, the Silverspinner. These spiders thread a single strand of silver silk that allows them to hang in the air long enough to lunge at an insect that happens to fly by. When the spider dies or moves away, the silk wraps itself around the tree, the leaves, or the roots. Sap from the tree then adheres to the silk, causing the tree to be made completely made out of silver. At night, it is a sight to behold. |

| #8individualityAug 29, 2009 0:37:36 | 8: Devilgrass. Also known as the Weed. When burned, it produces an oily flat light. There are devils that live within the flame of the burning grass, who will lure you into it and light you on fire should you stare into the flame. Also very bad if ingested. Grows in deserts. From Stephen King's book The Gunslinger. 9: King's Blood. A bright red flowering plant with a fragrant scent. The small flowers spread quickly to cover vast fields. They grow in graveyards and battlefields, places of much death. Their sweet scent will cause nausea and headaches. The petals are bitter, but when brewed, they produce an elixer that could awaken one from the deepest of sleep. 10: Io's Tears. A thorny, rose like flower of many colors, who's petals feel like metal. They are very rare, but grow in many extremes. To find one is considered a sign of great luck. Legend holds that with enough petals, one could forge armor that would be so lucky, one would be invincible. |
| #9fenrir7139Aug 31, 2009 0:37:09 | 11) Harrow-Heal Tree: A small tree with reddish-brown bark and star-shaped leaves, the Harrow-Heal Tree is a soft wood much like pine, but its true notoriety comes from its bright-yellow blossoms, which, when diluted in water, are known to heal several afflictions. | #11zackalSep 01, 2009 21:18:15 | 14a. The Twinning Tree. While not a specific kind of tree, the Twinning Tree is a rare occurence in certain types of deciduous trees near places of great magic. One can identify a Twinning Tree by the way it splits from the base of the trunk to form two distinct trees. There is a magical bond between both of the trees, and a person trained in Arcana or Nature can sense this. Whatever happens to one side of the tree also happens to the other. This property is also shared with the leaves of each tree, which has been taken advantage of by some clever people. By identifying which leaves are twins of each other (those skilled in Arcana or Nature can do this), one can separate the two by a vast distance and still be able to transmit a message between them by scrawling on one leaf, whereupon the other leaf will have the same message that was scrawled appear on it as well. Archers have also prized the Twinning Tree's wood. Sets of two arrows, one from each side of the tree, can make for an effective weapon. Once the first shot is fired and hits, the arrow's "twin" will always seem to hit the target in the same exact place. If a Twinning Tree is cut in half at an early age, both sides can be replanted and they will grow into separate trees. They still share a bond with each other, and Druids in the past have learned to harness this bond by using magic that will allow them to teleport between both of the trees regardless of the distance. |

| #13DreamstryderJan 10, 2010 23:28:29 | World Lamp (fungus): a tall, dark spire that can shoot up to 3 human heights. A chemical excreted at the bottom of a small cup on its tip sparks in water, and fields of it hiss to light in wet weather. In cycles, a world lamp will form many bubbling bulges scattered about its sides from 1 to 4 hands across. These bubbles with swell into semitransparent, amber globes, lighted inside by the glow of the chemical. Eventually, they will become so tenuously attached that a breeze will lift them free to drift in the sky in an amber light trail. These are world lamp spores. |
| #14AbsintaJan 11, 2010 1:32:45 | I'm not sure how to put it into this form myself, but I think someone should do a fantasied up( maybe make it deliberately aggressive?) version of scrub oak. Many years ago I used to play paintball on a field of this stuff that was also used by LARPers, and it proved to be far more dangerous than the people running around with air rifles and prop swords. Basically, it is a man-height shrub with very thin, spindly branches about as thick as crossbow bolts---but they are still made of oak hardwood, and in a hot summer get baked literally drier than kiln-dried lumber, so very prone to splintering sharply and much less give than, say, accidentally falling into your christmas tree( which I've done). We had at least one person hospitalized with an injury almost identical to the "antler boy" story from a couple of years ago, and countless lesser uses of the First Aid kit. Perhaps it should be highly sought after for arrows and spears, but expensive due to the hazards of obtaining it, and able to shoot twigs from the trees of themselves... |
