| #1degausserAug 15, 2008 3:14:18 | So, I had an idea, just for a community recource, to create a '1001' thread for interesting NPCs that the Players could bump into. This way, DMs in need of a dude can just look up guys here. There are only a few rules: 1)Give the NPC a purpose. Captain of the guard, king, whatever. 2)Use the rules for Enemy NPC generation for Stat generation. 3)These are supposed to be helpful, or at least not BBEG NPCs, so treat them accordingly. With that in mind: I start off the game with: Balthor the Genius! Male Dwarven Fighter 11, Lawful Good (Background: Metalsmithing) Str:17, Dex:11, Con:20 Int:17 Wis:15 Chr:12 HP: 108, AC: 31 (in scale mail +shield), F/R/W 17/10/12 Attack (Battleaxe) +13 (1d8+13) Powers: Reaping strike, Unbreakable, Reckless strike, Thicket of blades, Last Ditch evasion, Boundless Endurance. Skills: Arcana*Intimidate, Heal Feat: Ritual casting Balthor is a former adventurer who has an interesting story. Early in his adventures, he was confonted by a vile sorcerer who had cursed the land. Balthor and his companions found the madman's ritual book, but not one of them was trained in the mystic arts. Fortunatly, Balthor, through trial and error, and study of the book was able to piece together the counter ritual, thus earning his (in his mind undeserved) tital of Balthor the genius. Balthor is a cermudgeonly retired old adventurer who has resigned to making weapons for the rest of his life. He says he now views the adventuring life as foolish, but in his heart of hearts he wishes to be out their again, battling dragons and saving the world. Secretly, he still has the madman's ritural book, which he has studied inside and out, and has learned how to enchant a great number of items. For the right price, he might be convinced to sell these magical wares to adventurers. Balthor is one of the few beardless dwarves, he says that the beard interfears with the fires and only maintaines a modest (in dwarf terms) mustashe. His hair is brown but greying, and his age is beging to show. He almost always wears a pair of darkened goggles on his forhead, and a large, leather metalsmithing apron complete with tools. |
