Let's give this a shot, yeah? Try coming up with some more bizarre or humorous plots, whether from past experience or your own invention.

1. Three days after a knight is sent to defeat a dragon that captured the princess, his horse returns with the princess on it, unconscious. Three weeks pass, and the knight has not returned. The party, upon being sent to discover what became of him, find him quite alive and well in the cave, along with two other things:

  • The Dragon in question is female
  • The knight has fallen in love with it/her.

The PCs must find some way to inform the king and keep the city from marching an angry mob into the cave.

2) You have traveled with a Dragonborn and Tiefling for a long time (up to paragon level). Unfortuantely, the Dragonborn has become a Scion of Arkhosia with a desire to restore her empire, and the Tielfing is a Turathi Highborn with a desire to bring back Bael Turath. You have to choose between your two close friend's war to bring back an ancient power.

4) A port city has had a long existing truce with a tribe of Sahuagin (or Locathahs, for something more neutral/nicer), who live just off shore. The Sahuagin protect the city from Pirates in exchange for the delicious food that the land dwells would normally feed to their less worthy cattle (yes, I'm talking table scraps and garbage).
HOWEVER! Suddenly the entire populous of the 'sea guardians' disappeared overnight. Any clues would have been washed away with the tides, but perhaps the wizard that moved into town a month ago would be a knowledgeable resource.
Upon going to his residence though, the party first finds the door unlocked and slightly opened, as if done so absent-mindedly; and upon wondering into the house, accidentally trigger a secret switch that reveals an underground layer! Deep within the layer the party finds the Sahuagin in a giant glass room, filled with water for them to live within... with houses designed as little castles...

9) There is a heavy metal band made of a black dragon lead guitar, giant drummer, and organist who plays a organ inside of a desecrated and animated temple of bane (the public latrines have been built over bane's holy symbol). The draconic lead guitar has been murdered and the PCs have to find out who did it, the cult of bane is an obvious candidate, but several nearby nobles also don't like their music...

10) You are asked to get the salt and pepper shakers from the local tavern / restaurant. Without making it obvious what you are there for. (The prize is the pepper in the shakers - rare and valuable and very tasty. Also hot enough to fuel a Scorching Bursts.)

Should be fun to watch the PCs plan to trash the joint. Or Diplomacy their way to buying the shakers as-is.

For more plot fun, this is not your average peasant pub - it is the high-end place where only the best of society are even allowed in (like CBGB's or like the baron's wife's nephew's business).

11. You are sent to retrieve a magic ring from an ancient keep belonging to long-dead civilization of sorcerers. The ring can only be worn by dragonborn (any specific race will do) otherwise it simply disappears from the wearer's finger reappears on the pedestal from which it was taken. The ring has one of two effects, it grows the wearer to huge size, or it grows the wearer to tiny size. This is determined by a d6 roll, 1-2 is tiny, 3-4 is normal size, and 5-6 is huge. The wizard knows a spell to remove the ring, a ritual must be done by party wizards to remove the ring.

12) The Quest for the Ultimate Sandwich. In a Planescape/Plane-travelling setting: The PCs need information from a person in a mental hospital. He's suffering from deep depression; he's lost the will to live. The PCs have to get him happy again before getting the info.

Before becoming depressed, that person liked the small pleasures of life, more specifically, a good sandwich.

So, there's a little known sandwich stand in Sigil run by a genie, who has the recipe for The Ultimate Sandwich (i.e. The Best Sandwich in the Multiverse). This sandwich is so good it should give back the will to live to the poor depressed man.

The ingredients for The Ultimate Sandwich:
  • A 1000 years old special dwarven bread (found in the lost ruins of a dwarven stronghold).
  • Meat from a Feyborn boar (found in the pristine forests of a nature-aspected plane like the Feywilds).
  • Some "Royal Mushrooms", which are a special kind of mushroom that only grows on the tombs of kings (found in an ancient mausoleum).
  • To make the cheese: milk from a celestial goat, which nobody (even the genie with the recipe) really knows if it actually exists (it does, there's one somewhere in the celestial planes).

The rest of the recipe can be done by the genie: the mushrooms are cleaned with holy water, the bread is grilled to perfection with a dragon's whispered breath and the meat is cooked to perfection with a little fiery infernal dust to give it a little kick.

And there you have it. The smell alone is enough to make passer-bys stop in their tracks. Angels and demons alike gaze at it with envy. The problem now is just to give it to the depressed man without eating it on the way !

14) For some odd reason, the kingdom the PCs have entered has been transformed into a parody of a normal fantasy kingdom. The heroes must defeat the terrible demon-clown, Kom-A'Di, along with his hordes of disposable minions (literally disposable; the PCs keep finding dead ones in rubbish bins), silly traps (whitewash pails everywhere!) and ridiculous adventure hooks (a man named Plaht de Vyse keeps trying to lead the PCs places).

15) Arthur, King of the Britons, wants the PCs to find him a shrubbery. Their reward will be a +5 Herring of Tree-bane.

16) A Scooby-Doo style mystery.

18) The PC's are asked by the king to find a unique herb for the king. He claims that his daughter is very ill and the herb is necessary if the kingdom hopes to survive. The PC's are forced through a great many dangers to steal the herb from some archlich's potion-making supplies. When they return, the find out just what the herb was needed for. The king's daughter suffers from chronic flatulence, and a mighty warlord has announced his intention to marry her. The herb is the only known thing that can keep the princess's constant farting to a minimum, so the warlord is not disgusted by his bride to be.

(And then they find out it was all unnecessary since the warlord has a fart fetish!)

19) a copper dragon pays the PCs to transport a tun of Hlal's Hangover to it's lair. Of course many kobalds and wyrmlings try to steal the famous brew on the way. (of course when they pick it up, tempt one of the PCs to buy a shot of it).

3) A dragon approaches some adventurers in a dungeon and begs them to travel to a bar and rescue a wizard from a princess.

20) A portal suddenly opens in a city, despite the wards against such. The wards are still in place, but the portal somehow bypassed them.

From the portal emerge frightening constructs, protected by impenetrable wards, and wielding the very thunder from the skies as a weapon. Thankfully they don't seem hostile, but they stand vigilant guard over the portal.
As a plot device, the portal is opaque, so nobody can see the other side.

As the PCs investigate the stargate and powered armor soldiers, they discover an advanced civilization with no knowledge of magic.

How will they react to each other?
