1/2 Eladrin, 1/2 Shadar-Kai?

Hey, all. I'm the DM of my group, and I've got a player whose character, and Eladrin, had a trist with another PC's Shadar-Kai character. The Eladrin would like to role play the character becoming pregnant and having a child, and would like stats for the child as a possible character in a future game.

I haven't decided yet whether I'll allow this... the player is fairly new to role-playing in general, so I'm more inclined to be permissive then with a more established player. In the mean time, I'm just trying to decide how to stat it up.

So far my thoughts are either to run it as a half elf, only with +2 Dex and Int instead of the normal stat mods, and allowing eladrin and s-k feats instead of human and elf.

Otherwise, I thought maybe run it as an eladrin, but with the s-k racial power, and with a skill bonus to stealth or acrobatics instead of history.

I'm not really sure, but I'm open to suggestions on whether to allow this, and on how to run it if I do. Advice?

Well there are two ways of going about this 1) a variant on an existing race. or 2) creation of an entirely new race.

My only recomendation is talk to the player about what he wants from this.

Personally i would make the following new race:
Gloom Elf
+2Dex +2Int
Low light vision
+2 Stealth +2 Arcana
Twisted Origins- When determining origin treat the gloom elf as both a shadow and fey creature.
Fractured Body and Soul- when you make the gloom elf you may choose to have a +1 bonus to will or fortitude.
Painseeker: +2 damage racial bonus against bloodied foes.
Unstable Step- gain teleport 1 as a move speed.

My interpretation is that prodigy of the two doesnt work well, trying to mix fey and shadow has terrifying results.

I decided a while back that, assuming the child was even viable, I'd go with a simple rule for this sort of thing: the child is the same race as its mother. So, it's either an Eladrin or a Shadar-Kai, depending on which one the mother is.

I like simple fix's like this, but it doesnt give the player what they want. which is essentially to play both races at the same time. as a dm you just said "backstory wise you can bethat but you cant gain benefits from both!" Which isn't the worst decision to make, but I'd rather go with the "This is what happens when you mix the two races: do you still want to play it?" it a way of saying yes wthout giving the control of the situation to the player. If he like the concept of a new race, he play it, if he doesn't he will look for another one as your new race prevents him from complaining that you didnt give him what he wanted in the first place.

I would go through each list of racial traits and spot out the corresponding stats and abilities - mental stats, physical stats, special perception, racial abilities, etc.

For the ones that have no equivalent, mark them as this or nothing.

Then just go through and flip a coin for each allele trait - then you have a rather random, rather odd creature popping out of the PC. If it doesn't turn out the way you want, then just re-roll it, or manually switch some of the traits.
