Any ideas? Maybe upgrade humans and get rid of multiclassing, or weaken multiclassing?

I believe you're looking for the Previous Editions boards? :P

Maybe the OP is talking about the 30th level limit? Perhaps the OP thinks some ideas can be taken from 2e?

You want the previous edition boards, but for my 2cp:

Remove multiclassing and change it to dual classing for all races. Then give humans a little extra "oomph" so that you aren't handicapping yourself for choosing a human. Small little benefits on par with what you get for choosing a different race.

I haven't played 2e in forever... don't the demi-humans get +1 to a stat and -1 to a stat? Maybe give humans +1 to a stat of their choice, and leave it at that. Not getting a -1 should somewhat make up for the fact that demi-humans get cool stuff like darkvision.

Alternatively you could give them a free Proficiency-- their choice of Weapon or Non-Weapon. (this simulates the "free feat" of later editions)

How would getting rid of multiclassing, or weaken multiclassing help at all in 4e? :P
No, I'm pretty sure this guy it talking about 2E.

A 10-20% experience bonus for humans is a good start. Giving humans a +2 bonus to a stat of their choice is also an option.

Yes it's true, I should have posted in the Previous Editions board, but I also wanted to get an answer, and let's face it, not even 3.5 gets a lot of hits these days. Plus, I also know that people seem to post more on things that are out of place and look at that - it worked ;).

Anyway, basing it on the above, I think I'll do it like this:

Remove multiclassing
+1, -1 to stats of choice for humans
Bonus proficiencies for both weapons and non-weapon proficiencies.
+5% to exp in general for humans

How's that?

Sounds good to me; I'd play a human under those rules. The only downside is that the bonus weapon proficiencies don't help out the human fighters.

Actually, now that I think about it, I can just keep multiclassing for everybody, but subtract around 10% from experience for every class extra you choose. Sound fair?

In addition to this?

+1, -1 to stats of choice for humans
Bonus proficiencies for both weapons and non-weapon proficiencies.
+5% to exp in general for humans

Even if multiclassing is open to everyone, humans still need some sort of boost to compensate for infravision, saving throw bonuses, finding secret doors, etc. I think opening multiclassing to all races is perfectly reasonable, but it's already twice as slow as single class advancement. I'm not sure how much effect another 10% penalty will have.

That's a good point. Any suggestions? Extra languages? Maybe just get rid of the penalty?

Actually, I just reread it, so I guess it's fine by itself.

first off i LOVED second edition multi classing wish it owuld come back somehow..

we always had four general house rules that depended on the GM
1. ignore the race level limitations.
2. humans may multiclass like other races, but only 2 classes.
3. when non humans hit level caps they jsut got an xp penalty.
4. increase the level limits by 50% rounded up, i don't think we ever had a character get near that high in our game, perhaps thief's may because of how fast they level

we also kept record of partial hp gains when we divided hp each level and as the fractions added to whole numbers they got them

we really never found multiclassing all that strong, spells are behind a pure caster, thaco and hp behind the pure fighter etc etc
