I haven't really been back to the boards since the switch to 4th edition because it edged out 3.5, which is what my group plays and prefers. I came back because I remember how helpful the suggestions from this forum were for my last campaign, as well as the strange homebrew creations that you can assmilate into your game.

I'm going to update this thread bit by bit to catch anyone who wants to help out up to speed. If you have specific questions I'd be glad to elaborate.

I guess I should start off with some backround. (As a disclaimer, if I took names or ideas from books, movies, or homebrew rules I didn't "steal" them. After they come up I tell my players where they came from; I don't take credit for creating 100% of this materiel.)

The setting is fairly generic; mythical creatures, magic and magic items, dragons, your basic DnD world. I morphed it slightly to uphold a more "pirate-y" theme, with many coastal towns, gunpowder weapons (only pistols for the most part) albeit at steep prices. Pirates run rampant in the small sea the PC's grew up on (simmilar to the mediteranean).

The major villians are called the Seven Scourges. According to legend, they are six of the most fearsome warlords of all time, brought back from the dead and united under the banner of the newly crowned Pirate King and seventh Scourge, Shroud. They are loosely based on the seven deadly sins (full metal alchemist/flogging molly), in both their personas and powers.

The Campaign began with a pirate assault on the Pc's home town. The ships were manned by grunts, mostly goblins with a smattering of gnolls. The Pc's managed to hold out, making a few allies along the way. They were asked to join an organization dedicated to freeing the waters from piracy, called The Sea Hounds (the sea dogs?). The Sea Hounds are, in essence, bounty hunters dedicated to hunting pirates.

The Pc's formed a crew and were dispatched to hunt down the fleeing pirates who had attacked the town. The Pc's had tremendous dificulty in tracking them down, ending up stopping on several islands for side arcs ranging from a war between were-crocodiles and mer-folk, to hydra slaying, to anthropomorphic dinosaurs. They eventually got back on the trail. To their dismay, they discovered the assualt had been led by one of the Scourges, Roth Cannonhand. They were forced into combat with him, and lost crew members in the process. Before they could defeat him, he destroyed the deck of the ship they were fighting on and he managed to escape.

After catching up with him again a few levels later, they managed to eke out a victory, again at a steep cost. The Pc's then decided to return home to regroup and replace their lost crew members. On the way home, they were hit by a severe storm and had to fight for their lives. In the midst of the storm they were attacked by another of the Scourges, Rai, the first Pirate King. He defeated them soundly and destroyed their ship, stranding the small remaining crew on an island.

They discovered a strange ship on the island, and are now ready for revenge on Rai.

I'll be updating more soon, this is the bare basics. Let me know if there's something you want to go up first.
