One of my player's in my 3.5 campaign has expressed the desire to turn his cleric into a mage hunter. So thinking about that I decided to try my hand at making a prestige class for him that focuses on nulling and resisting arcane magic used against it. I barrowed a large part of the class' feel from the game 'dragon age', really liking the templar's ability in that game to damage a mage's mana pool when it attacks them. Hopefully I managed to succesfully transfer that feel over into d&d terms. Anyways I'm looking for some feedback on this rough draft of abilities I've worked out for this class, so please P.E.A.C.H.

Class Requirements:
  • Alignment: any non-evil or non-chaotic alignment

  • Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 5 ranks and Knowledge (religon) 5 ranks

  • Special: Be able to cast dispel magic and 3rd level divine spells

Class Features:

  • detect magic: The templar detects magical aruas up to 60 feet away.

  • Iron Will: A templar gains Iron Will as a bonus feat at 2nd level.

  • Aura of Courage: Begining at 3rd level, a templar gains immunity to fear effects. Each ally within 10 feet of the templar gains a +4 bonus to saving throws against fear effects.

  • Aura of Purity: Begining at 5th level, all allies within 10 feet of the templar gain a +2 bonus on saves made against arcane spells.

  • Mental defense: Add this bonus: +1 at 1st level, +2 at 3rd level, +3 at 5th level, +4 at 7th level, and +5 at 9th level to the templar's saving throws when they are against arcane spells as well as the spell-like and supernatural abilities of outsiders.

  • Spellcasting: At every even-numbered level, a templar gains a new spell level and an increase in divine caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if the templar had also gained a level in a divine spellcasting class he belonged to before he added the prestige class. The templar does not however, gain any other class benefits a character of that class would have gained.

  • Censure Strike: Once per day a templar may attempt to censure strike an arcane spellcasting creature with a normal melee attack and adds their Charisma or Wisdom bonus (I'm still not sure which to count at this point), if any, to their attack roll and deals 1 extra point of damage per templar level. In addition, if censure strike is succesfull the target is effected as if they had the spell silence cast on them and must make a will save to negate the effect or be silenced for rounds equal to 1/2 the templar's level. The number of censure strikes increase to 2 per day at 5th level and 3 per day at 10th level.

  • Purge Magic: Begining at 7th level a templar can use the purge magic ability 1 per day as a standard attack action. Purge magic creates a 15 foot circular range centered on the templar in which any arcane spellcaster that enters into that range, voulntarily or not, must make a will save or be silenced untill they exit the range. Spells cast outside the range of the purge magic ability are not effected by it and can pass through it. This ability lasts rounds equal to 1/2 the templar's wisdom or charisma bonus. At 9th level the number of times a templar can use purge magic increases to 2 per day.

you might get more feedback if you post this here ; as you'll find a few more 3.5 players in the "previous editions" threads.

as to this specifically -- I'm not much on casters, but at first glance, it appears that much of what you are wanting to do already exists with feats and PrCs (I'm drawing a blank right now, so I apologize for not being able to state any specifics).
