| #1beleganMar 02, 2009 1:11:00 | I really like what I have seen of the new PH II class Avenger, but my group doesn't want to play 4e, but would rather stick with 3.5e. That got me thinking about how I would make an Avenger with 3.5e rules, since I really would like to play an Avenger type of class. IMO it must be a combination of an assassin and a paladin without taking to many key class features from each. IMO the trick is to make it an individual class and not just a mishmash of these two classes. I have used the two pages of the Avenger that is circulating the net and the Mord of Kord pre-gen character sheet as a healthy inspiration. However since powers are a no-go then I'm thinking if he should perhaps have access to some limited spells like the assassin, but with more emphasis on the divine side of the character. Here is what I have come up with so far PEACH: Avenger Class Traits Armor Proficiencies: light armor Weapon Proficiencies: simple and martial weapons BAB: as fighter, ranger, barbarian and paladin Class Features Armor of Faith (from PHB II - Avenger) The favour of your deity wards you from harm. While you are neither wearing heavy armor nor using a shield, you gain a +3 bonus to AC. Avenger’s Censure (from PHB II - Avenger) As an avenger, you train your mind, body and soul toward one purpose: destroying the enemies of your faith. To that end, you gain divine aid in pursuing a single target, though the way you eliminate that enemy varies. Do you pin your foe down and keep other enemies away, or do you pursue your foe across the field of battle. Choose one of these options. Censure of Pursuit: If your oath of enmity target moves away from you willingly, you gain a bonus to damage rolls against the target equal to 2 + your Dexterity modifier until the of your next turn. The bonus increases to 4 + your Dexterity modifier at 7th level and 6 + your Dexterity modifier at 14th level. Censure of Retribution: When any enemy other than your oath of enmity target hits you, you gain a bonus to damage rolls against your oath of enmity target equal to your Intelligence modifier until the end of your next turn. This bonus is cumulative. Channel Divinity: Divine Guidance (from PHB II - Avenger) You lend your deity’s guidance to an ally’s attack against you. Encounter Divine Immediate Interrupt Close burst 10 Trigger: An ally within 10 squares of you make an attack roll against your oath of enmity target. Target: The target makes a second attack roll and uses either results. Oath of Enmity (from PHB II - Avenger) You focus your wrath on a single foe, giving your attacks against it extraordinary accuracy. Encounter (Special) Divine Minor Action Close burst 10 Target: One enemy you can see in burst Effect: When you make a melee attack against the target and the target is the only enemy adjacent to you, you make two attack rolls and use either result. This effect last until the target drops to 0 hit points, at which point you regain the use of this power. If another effect lets you roll twice and use the higher result when making an attack roll, this power has no effect on that attack. If an effect forces you to roll twice and use the lower result when making an attack roll, this power has no effect on that attack either. If an effect lets you reroll an attack roll and you rolled twice because of this power, you reroll both dice. Deity’s Weapon Focus (from Complete Divine - Favoured Soul) At 2nd level, an avenger gains the Weapon Focus feat with her deity’s favoured weapon. If the character already has that feat, he can choose a different one. Uncanny Dodge (from PHB - Barbarian) Starting at 2nd level, an avenger retains his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) regardless of being caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. (He still loses any Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized.) If a character gains uncanny dodge from a second class the character automatically gains improved uncanny dodge. Secret Blade (from Lords of Darkness - Spur Lord prestige class) At 3rd level, an avenger has the ability to magically hide an item as if he were wearing a glove of storing. Only one item can be concealed at a time in this manner, although the avenger can cause the item to repappear in either hand as a free action, regardless of which hand was used to store the item. Improved Uncanny Dodge (from PHB - Barbarian) At 5th level, an avenger can no longer be flanked, since he can react to opponents on opposite sides of him as easily as he can react to a single attacker. This defense denies rogues the ability to use flank attacks to sneak attack the avenger. The exception to this defense is that a rogue at least four levels higher than the avenger can flank him (and thus sneak attack him). If a character gains uncanny dodge (see above) from a second class the character automatically gains improved uncanny dodge, and the levels from those classes stack to determine the minimum rogue level required to flank the character. Deity’s Weapon Specialization (from Complete Divine - Favoured Soul) At 6th level, an avenger gains the Weapon Specialization feat with his deity’s favoured weapon. If he already has that feat she can choose a different one. |

| #3randomredmageMar 03, 2009 20:35:00 | wait.. I dont get it... Everything I see is like Copy Pasted.... and it has, ok, now lets put some things in order... Take a copy of office, open or otherwise, and orgnize a table, much like those lovable tables in PHB 3.5e And set up the 20 levels, just like any class, show where they gain an ability. Second... use 3.5e mechanics. 4e mechanics are scaled up, more powerful usually. Oath of Enmity, Channel Divinity: Divine Guidance, ok these 2, for one tey are screaming 4e mechanics. I like the abilities, and they may be key, but they need to be reworked, its a devine class, so think a little of the owers clerics and paladins have, its an avenger, so its prolly going to be more attck oriented, so something like a paladins smite would fit in,myou need to think it through a bit more and bring it back in time to 3.5 as if 4e never existed and the class concept was your own. |

It is the monk-esque sword wielding warrior, so really all you would need is to alter the flavor a bit and swap out abilities with those above. |
