| #1alvl1heroOct 24, 2008 2:23:04 | I made this to go along with my Psypher Bowmen class (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1105090). My DM made up a crazy mix of 3.5 and 4.0 and we play that, so I don't know if this will have any relevance. Class works in no normal system, please disregard. Great Fairy Average Height: 5' 6'' - 6' 3" Average Weight: 100 - 150 lb. Ability Scores: +2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma Size: Medium Speed: 30ft Vision: Low-Light Languages: Common, Sylvan Skill Bonuses: +2 Perception, +2 Search Special Qualities: Wing Beat: You can use your wings to slow your decent, negating damage from a fall and allowing 20ft forward travel for every 5ft of descent. You glide at a speed of 40ft at good maneuverability, but you may not hover even if your mobility improves. You can't use Wing Beat while carrying a medium or heavy load. Fey Wings: You have some sort of insect like wings that allow you to fly 30ft at good maneuverability for a number of turns equal to your character level +1, as an encounter power. The maximum height you may fly is 15ft and you may not gain any sort of Wing Attack. Fey Resistance: You gain a +1 to Will saves and +5 vs enchantments. Physical Qualities: Great Fairies are a mystical race, born from magic and society oriented. They tend to be around 6ft tall and weigh about 125 pounds. Their skin is always fair and eyes tend to be shades of brown. Female Great Fairies hair ranges in a variety of colors reminiscent of a flower, from pink to gold. They are slightly built and could be mistaken as elves if not for their large, butterfly like wings. Male Great Fairies hair tends to be light colored and ranges in a variety of earthy colors anywhere from topaz to gray. Males tend to be taller then females but are more gangly, giving a sort of stretched out look. Their wings are less dazzling then the females looking like insect wings such as grasshoppers or dragonflies. Both tend to dress in nature-esk colors the females leaning toward brighter and males toward duller. Great Fairies start life no bigger then 12 inches tall and grow as they mature. They reach childhood by 8, adolescence at the age a 25, and are fully developed by 40. They live around an average of 200 years but some can live as long as 400 and do not suffer the effects of old age. |

(2) fey wings: broken. flight in 4e for PCs is more like teleport (in reference to air genashi, who have it): you can fly, but you must end on a solid surface. (IIRC air genashi can, once per encounter, spend a move action, to fly a number of squares equal to their move speed; landing on a solid surface). --> this way when facing animals/monsters with only mellee capabilities, you don't break the game instantly. |
| #3alvl1heroOct 24, 2008 6:00:04 | (1) "You glide at a speed of 40ft at good maneuverability, but you may not hover even if your mobility improves." That was taken right out of D&D 3.5E - Races of the Wild for Raptorians. Be smarmy to Wizards of the Coast for that one. A few things, firstly I totally forgot to add that there was a flight ceiling of 15ft making sure that you can at least be hit by reach melee wepons. That was my bad. Secondly, I've never actually even read a 4.0 book. So I'm just going off of crazy homebrew rules my DM made up. I said that in the first sentence, but that's besides the point. Thanks for your criticism and information, even if it was a-bit in the way of "Your stupid, s**ts broken.". |
| #4QubeOct 24, 2008 6:45:04 | Thanks for your criticism and information, even if it was a-bit in the way of "Your stupid, s**ts broken.". not intended that way, I just don't have any ranks in diplomacy. |
| #5FireclaveOct 24, 2008 8:06:14 | Seems okay. But without a defined rules basis, it's pretty much impossible to critique the mechanics. But I will point out the issues from the assumption that this race was intended to work in strictly in 4e. I'll let you decide what advice is relevant or not.Skill Bonuses: +2 Perception, +2 Search Redudant. Search as been rolled into the percepton skill. Wing Beat: You can use your wings to slow your decent, negating damage from a fall and allowing 20ft forward travel for every 5ft of descent. You glide at a speed of 40ft at good maneuverability, but you may not hover even if your mobility improves. You can't use Wing Beat while carrying a medium or heavy load. 4e no longer features 3e's five flight manuverability rating. Movement in general as also been simplied. There is no extra movement cost for moving diagonally, for example. Fey Wings: You have some sort of insect like wings that allow you to fly 30ft at good maneuverability for a number of turns equal to your character level +1, as an encounter power. The maximum height you may fly is 15ft and you may not gain any sort of Wing Attack. 4e has revalued the worth of flight. It is now a paragon to epic ability that you generally only get in small doses. In a standard game, this ability would be overpowered by 4e standards, though it sounds like your DM has no problem with it. Fey Resistance: You gain a +1 to Will saves and +5 vs enchantments. 4e no longer has will saves, though you do have a will defence. And enchantment is not a power keyword in 4e. The closest thing to it would be Charm, or possibly Illusion. |
| #6alvl1heroOct 25, 2008 2:11:19 | not intended that way, I just don't have any ranks in diplomacy. S'alright. Fireclave After hearing about it, it looks like this race would need a major rewrite to be compatible with 4th Ed. and it would still need a minor re-write to be 3.5 compatable. I thank you for your feedback and I'll think about re-writing this. |
| #7aethergreyOct 26, 2008 13:56:56 | Sorry, didn't get past your race's name before I was chuckling, immature brat that I am. You might want to rename that to something that isn't used as slang. |
