| #1Mist-BoundSep 23, 2009 2:57:15 | I've seen many a strangeling third party setting in the days of 3.5. From Scarred Lands to a D20 version of Warcraft to Mechamorphosis (basically G1 Transformers with the serial numbers filed off and played under 3.5 rules), but one that stuck in my head, despite literally only seeing a few glimpses of it, was a setting called Dragonmech. In this setting, the moon had somehow been moved closer to the world. Consequently, every night saw a terrible rain of debris fall from the moon to bombard the planet below. Between this and the attendent monsters that came down amongst the dust and boulders (the most terrible of which were the colossal abominations known as Moon Dragons), civilisation had been destroyed. For their own survival, sentient creatures had either emigrated into the Underdark... or had constructed tremendously huge fantasy "mecha", building new cities inside these mobile fortresses. All sorts of potential adventures were possibly; exploring a "dungeon" that was actually the interior of a huge clockwork-powered construct, surviving a war in which the main weapons were also whole cities, piloting smaller (but still huge) mecha against moon-spawned monsters or enemy mecha bands... you get the idea. Now, I honestly know less about this setting than I'd like. However, that doesn't stop me from being curious: could this be updated into a valid 4th edition setting? What do you all think? |
