| #1owls_and_more_owlsMay 25, 2009 21:34:42 | I'm still pretty new to 4E, and I wanted to convert a Homebrew race that I made for 3E into fourth. Here's what I have so far: Half-Succubus Average Height: 5'5" - 6'0" Average Weight: 140 lbs. - 190 lbs. Ability Scores: +2 Cha, +2 Dex Size: Medium Speed: 6 squares Vision: Low-Light Languages: Common, One Other of your Choice Skill Bonuses: +2 Stealth, +2 Diplomacy Limber: You gain a +1 bonus to your Reflex Defense. Fire Resistance: You have Resist Fire 5 + one-half your class level Succubine Flight: You can use Succubine Flight as an Encounter power Succubine Flight Encounter, Range: Personal, Minor Action Effect: Your small wings grant you flight for a short time. You gain Fly Speed 6 until the beginning of your next turn. Here's the 3rd Edition race for anyone interested: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1142497&highlight=half-Succubus Any Help or critique would really help Thanks. |
| #2Crimson_ConcertoMay 25, 2009 21:41:54 | Limber: You gain a +1 Bonus to your Reflex Defense This is unnecessary. Racial defense boosts are for races with both of their ability score bonuses going towards abilities that affect the same defense. For example, the Eladrin gets a +1 Will because DEX and INT both go towards Reflex, and the Goliath gets a +1 Will because STR and CON both go towards Fortitude. Your race has +2 DEX and +2 CHA which is already a bonus to both Reflex and Will. A further racial defense boost is unnecessary. Succubine Flight That's until the beginning of your next turn and not the end of your next turn, right? Usually effects specify. |

| #4rampantMay 25, 2009 21:59:34 | Racial defense bonuses aren't completely the domain of str-con, dex-int, and wis-cha, races. The Gith'yanki for instance are a con-int race with a will boost. Humans have a +1 to all non-ac defenses, and a +2 to a stat of your choice, so the +2 to a defense from race isn't game breaking. I see nothing grossly wrong with this race. However you do need to specify when that power ends. |
| #5Crimson_ConcertoMay 25, 2009 22:02:41 | The Gith'yanki for instance are a con-int race with a will boost. That's a Monster race, not a PC race. The two are not the same thing. They are constructed and balanced differently and for different purposes. EDIT: As to Humans, they only get a single ability score boost, so they would need some kind of defense boost. Having a +2 total from race to a defense isn't game breaking, no, just like getting a +2 bonus to 4 skills probably isn't game breaking, but it's not really consistent with how other races are designed. |
| #6daidojitaidoruMay 25, 2009 22:38:35 | Crimson_Concerto covered most of it. You'll want to make some racial feats as well for the race. And you may want to decide if you're going to give them the immortal tag like other devils. Also as an aside you may want to hunt down the old 2nd ED Alu Fiend from the Planescape setting (though those stats may have escaped into the big 2nd ED MM compilations). They're the old 1/2 succubus race and they had a fairly nice writeup. |
| #7ascottbayMay 25, 2009 23:15:20 | How can you reject such a hot racial feat as 'Limber'!? Keep it, baby. Or make it do something else. |
| #8Crimson_ConcertoMay 25, 2009 23:21:12 | Or make it do something else. That's fine. The race could probably still use something anyways... |
| #9owls_and_more_owlsMay 25, 2009 23:35:55 | That's fine. The race could probably still use something anyways... What would you suggest? |
| #10Crimson_ConcertoMay 26, 2009 0:42:40 | What would you suggest? Well considering this is supposed to be based on a succubus, have you considered Change Shape as an encounter power? |
