After 4 months of hard work, My friend Space Odin and I would like to present our homebrew rules for making a 4e Monk. This pdf contains everything relevant to making a complete Monk including: Class, Racial and Multiclass feats, Monk Powers, Class Features and Class Builds, Monk Specific Weaponry, 3 Paragon Paths and 1 Epic Destiny.

This document has been reviewed by 3 DMs for power level and is about to be playtested in an upcoming 4e campaign. We will be posting the data as we receive it.

What we want from you:
Play the class, or hassle your DM to review the rules so you can, then come back and tell us how it went and how it worked in your campaign.

The Link

Note: We do not claim ownership of any of the images in this document and they are the property of their respective owners. If reposting this document on another site please give Space Odin credit since he assembled the pdf.

Were you aware that the WotC monk playtest will be available in three days? Not to knock your work, it will be interesting to compare

OK, being a DM myself, time to exame ...

(before I read the PDF I should say: I like monks very much, which makes me very biased: so I'll probably think you'll probably have done everything wrong. Read what I complain about, and think for yourself if I'm correct about the comment or just being an *ss)

  • striker ... it always pains me to see people making 'striker' monks. almost every monk (from movies, ...) doesn't want to fight, ... IMO defender or controller would fit it much better ... but thats just me
  • I don't know if you need to mention 'implements: none'
  • I would leave "your unarmed attacks deal one damage dice higher" away. just fixed d6: it stops people from abusing other items that also would increase the damage die
  • evasion training: The bonus increases to +4 at 11th level and +6 at 21st level. Why? defense bonusses are normally static, because it already rises with your level. (damage on the other hand doesn't)
  • unlike other most strikers, you seem to be missing a damage ability (curse, quarry, sneak attack), instead you get counter attack?
  • I think masterfull dodge is broken on epic level, especially with evasion training: 1/encounter, the opponent attacks your good defence with a -10 penalty ??
  • crushing palm: I'dd change the stat of the second damage. like [W]+STR, +DEX if he triggers it. (like STR+CON for the fighter (brash strike from martial power, STR+WIS for the paladin, INT+WIS for the wizard)
  • add a condition to the shattering strike. (I'm seeing a lack of inspiration between that shattering strike and crushing palm ...)
  • flavor wize: why in heavens blazes does Ki bast deafen?
  • positioning kick ... after I hit, can I shift around the battlefield (triggering all traps) as long as I end adjecent to the enemy ?
  • staggering strike ...I'dd make the bonus equal to half the strength modifier ...
  • none of the lvl 1 dailies monk powers have the kata power... not what I would have expected ...
  • empowered bounds is still to powerfull IMO (if I see it right, you use a modified 'jump' power). while compesating for the training, you forget that wizards usually don't have the STR mod for acrobatics check)
  • opportunistic strike: I'dd say you're pushing it with 3[W], but since monks are strikers, and don't have any other damaging specialities, I'll give you this one ...)
  • looking back ... why do monks get 6 hp/lvl ? and not 5?
  • Ki Flash. I think its overpowered, since it's a kata
  • Double-Palm Assault: it misses a miss block (nothing happens if you roll poorly)

  • Divine Representative (24th Level) ... basically, all enemies.
  • I'm missing a ressurection power in the God's hand powers

Oh, my battlerager dwarf (a variant fighter from martial power, who gets temp hp each time he hits equal to his CON-mod) with invigorating attacks (hit means I get temp hp equal to CON-mod. it stacks with battlerager (battlerager specifically says so)
-> takes Multiclass monk and the Tranquility of Stone feature. Now my make my dwarf with 18 CON get 16 temp hp each time he hits with his at will power ... and that at lvl 2.
Tranquility of Stone is way overpowered. (never assume a stat will be low ...)

And strangly I ask you ... why is this class dubbed 'striker'?

At a glance the at wills seem too static. All the attacks that are non weapon should be some value other then 1d6. If the class is going ot be

Otherwise looks pretty cool. :D
