4e Lite Power System

I am playing around with power points to construct a simplified power system for the 4e lite game I am working on and would appreciate some feed back.

First, this system is based on the at-will attack being a basic attack that does [W] + level damage.  Wizards have a basic spell attack that does 1d8 + level damage to a single target with a range of 50 ft.  The wizard also has to pick a single damage type (i.e. fire, frost, radiant, etc.) and a single NAD to target for their basic spell attack.

The wizard is more limited in their basic attacks than weapon users (i.e. no choise of weapon damage and properties) but have a little more flexibility in their PP usage.

Okay, so here goes:

Power Points

You have an amount of power points (PP) equal to 4 + half your level (rounded down).  These power points can be used to power-up an attack.  The precise manifestation of this power-up depends on the weapon you are using.

Melee Weapons: When spending PPs to power-up a melee weapon attack you can spend 1 PP to do one of the following.

  • Increase damage to 2[W].

  • Make a close burst 1 attack at 1[W].

  • Slide the target 5 ft.

For the cost of 2 PPs you can power-up a melee weapon attack with one of the following.

  • Increase damage to 3[W] (half damage on miss).

  • Make a close burst 1 attack at 2[W].

  • Slide target 10 ft.

Ranged Weapons:  When spending PPs to power-up a ranged weapon attack you can spend 1 PP to do one of the following.

  • Increase damage to 2[W].

  • Make an area burst 1 attack at 1[W].

  • Slide the target 5 ft.

For the cost of 2 PPs you can power-up a ranged weapon attack with one of the following.

  • Increase damage to 3[W] (half damage on miss).

  • Make an area burst 1 attack at 2[W].

  • Slide target 10 ft.

Spells: When spending PPs to power-up a spell attack you can spend 1 PP to do one of the following.

  • Increase damage to 2[W] (half damage on miss).

  • Increase range to 100 ft. (can be stacked).

  • Change the damage type of the attack (can be stacked).

  • Change the defense targeted (can be stacked).

  • Make an area burst 1 attack at 1[W].

  • Make a close burst 1 attack at 1[W].

  • Make blast 3 attack at 1[W].

  • Slide the target 5 ft.

For the cost of 2 PPs you can power-up a spell attack with one of the following.

  • Increase damage to 3[W] (half damage on miss).

  • Make an area burst 2 attack at 2[W] (half damage on miss).

  • Make a close burst 2 attack at 2[W] (half damage on miss).

  • Make a blast 5 attack at 2[W] (half damage on miss).

  • Slide target 10 ft.

You must decide to power-up an attack prior to making the attack.  If you get a critical hit (normally rolling a natural 20) on the attack roll then you can automatically do a 1 PP power-up on the attack.  If you already declared a power-up then you can reduce the PPs expended by 1.

Unless otherwise stated you cannot stack multiple power-up on a single attack.

Without having the perspective of knowing the "4e Lite" system, it's impossible to give an accurate review of something like this.

Fair enough.  Here is the rundown.

1) The basic rules of the game (i.e. rules compendium stuff) pretty much unchanged.

2) No feats.

3) Three classes (fighter, rogue, wizard).

4) The post above replaces attack powers.

5) A +1 bonus per level for attack, damage, and defences replaces half level bonus, enhancement bonuses, feat bonuses, etc.

I think this is the gist of it.

I did something similar with Lucky Power.
