| #1tacktixOct 29, 2008 20:26:16 | I just started a Forgotten Realms campaign for my mid-Paragon (16th level) players. The story will focus on Cyric and his deceitful minions (willing or unwilling). The Bow of the Betrayer is an artifact I created to mirror the plot I have in mind by forcing one PC to make some tough decisions. I modeled it off of the Axe of the Dwarven Lords and the Eye of Vecna (one being a weapon, the other being an evil item). I'd like to balance the weapon to be appropriate for mid-Paragons (going into Epic tier, eventually), so here's the full stats: The Bow of the Betrayer The Bow is appropriate for paragon-level characters. When first fired by you, the bow implants spikes into your forearm, dealing 2d10 damage. It can only be removed by ripping it off of your arm, causing 4d10 damage. Once removed in this way, the bow disappears in a wisp of smoke. Bow of the Betrayer Paragon Level Forged of malice and hate by Cyric himself, the Bow of the Betrayer is a cruel instrument composed of spikes and teeth. Its power is undeniable, but at a great cost to the bearer. The Bow of the Betrayer is a +4 necrotic longbow with the following properties and powers. Enhancement: Attack rolls and damage rolls Critical: +4d6 necrotic damage Property: Whenever this weapon is fired, you suffer 1 damage. Property: On any successful hit, the bow does an additional 2 necrotic damage. Property: You can speak and understand the Abyssal language and read the Barazhad script. Power (Encounter ✦ Arcane): You can use darkest mirror (warlock 10). Power (Daily ✦ Arcane): You can use ruinous resistance (warlock 16). Power (At-Will ✦ Martial): Immediate Reaction. When hit by an opportunity attack, you can use the bow as a melee weapon, dealing 1d6 damage on a hit. |

I think it is definitely an interesting item, and I know if I was using it in my campaign I would have them run into a guy (however he was used) with either a jagged scar or two puncture scares on his arm. Be back soon with how well the weapon seems to function. |
