| #1fenrir7139Feb 10, 2009 16:24:29 | Hey, everybody! I saw M-bark's Races for Video Game-inspired campaign setting thread, and I was inspired to update some of them to Fourth Edition rules; please note, some of these these are just my first drafts, so be careful. Anyway, here it is! |
| #2nthdegree256Feb 10, 2009 16:53:39 | Nice, I'm looking forward to this. I ran a Zelda-setting oneshot a few months ago by reflavoring/tweaking a number of monsters, and one player wanted to be a Twili (ala Twilight Princess.) I had her use the Shadar-Kai racial stats, as they have a lot of shadow-centric abilities and a short-range teleport - it was practically a perfect fit. |

I just posted the Zora under Legend of Zelda races, feel free to use it. Anyway, I'm about ready to post the Laguz tribes, and then I'll probably look at some moe Zelda stuff. P.S. I agree about the Twili/Shadar-Kai thing; I'll probably use them as the base for the Twili when I post them. |
| #4fenrir7139Feb 10, 2009 18:02:15 | I just posted the the six laguz tribes from Fire Emblem; I will now start working on the other Zelda races, like the Kokiri and Twili, as well as the protoss (which are basically complete). See ya later! |
| #5fenrir7139Feb 10, 2009 18:42:40 | The protoss are up, and they have two Paragon paths, as well as an Epic Destiny! Yay! |
| #6vebrandssonFeb 10, 2009 19:04:10 | I think this looks realitively good, the only fix I see is that the Zora need the Aquatic keyword added in thier racial features. |

| #8fey_felineFeb 10, 2009 21:53:07 | Add the FFXII races and it'll be just dandy. Good job so far! |
| #9fenrir7139Feb 10, 2009 22:14:33 | Add the FFXII races and it'll be just dandy. Thanks! I've never played Final Fantasy XII, but I'll see what I can do. EDIT: Brain-fart! I have played FFXII before, never mind! :D |
| #10yrogergFeb 10, 2009 22:35:37 | I think the only criticism I could really give is that the Protoss race seems just a wee bit weak: Elves' and Eladrins' Fey Origin seems to be accounted as a negative for those races which only adds an additional, albeit minor, vulnerability, all things considered, (unlike non-humanoid PC races in previous editions, where that was a net plus, as you it rendered you immune to a significant group of spells) and accordingly, the two races get some fairly potent racials in exchange: not quite as potent as Small races, but it's still up there. Protoss's Aberrant Origin seems even *more* of the sort of thing that would only come up as something that tacks on extra damage or penalties, so I'd expect racial abilities that were at least somewhat more in line with Elves' or Elandrins' abilities. |
| #11yrogergFeb 10, 2009 22:37:45 | Thanks! I've never played Final Fantasy XII, but I'll see what I can do. If it helps, they're also featured in the FF Tactics (Advance) series, as well. Also, Bangaa only really require some minor modification from Dragonborn, AFAICT. |
| #12fenrir7139Feb 10, 2009 23:08:10 | I have the Bangaa and Garif races up; I haven't played much FF, so if anybody has corrections for me, feel free to speak up! |
| #13-stuFeb 11, 2009 0:12:21 | I honestly think that bangaa are a Str/Dex race. Violent should prolly give a +2 to damage rolls. And I'm honestly not a fan of the Bangaa Fortitude power, its the same as the power the makes Hobgoblins suck in my opinion. I would give them an ability that replaces a normal Opportunity attack, in responds in another way. Maybe something similar to a Red Dragons attack that in an Immediate Interrupt when someone flanks him, since Bangaa seem very quick to me. Then again, if you look at Bangaa in the Tactics games (also set in Ivalice, so they are the samw Bangaa) the often get a breath weapon, pretty much just like dragonborn, so you may consider that. I would definitely consider looking into Bangaa classes from Tactics A2 for ideas on Paragon Paths (Dragoons!!!). Also, if you don't want to give them just combat buffs, you could replace Bloodlust (since its kinda been done) with: Fearsome: all non-Bangaa party members within 10 squares gain a +1 to intimidae checks. This is similar to a half-elf's Group Diplomacy buff. If you don't like them with a group ability, some sort of racial initiative boost would be cool. One last thing on Bangaa - the need a racial feat similar to the Minotaur feat given in Dragon, its basically a better racial version of Blind Fight. If you ever read any of the fluff stuff for Bangaa, you'll find that bangaa have very poor eyesight (which brings to mind, the should NOT have a racial bonus to perception! I would replace it with Intimidate.). And that because of this some of them even sport headbands that cover their eyes! The Garif are hard to pin as a race, you really don't see much of them, but I'd have to say that they should have a WIS boost for absolute sure. They seem the shaman/warrior types. Kinda similar to native americans. |
| #14pigknightFeb 11, 2009 0:16:54 | Bangaa are +Str/+Wis to me. |
| #15fenrir7139Feb 11, 2009 16:07:19 | I just finished posting some more Zelda races; the Deku, Twili, and Kokiri. More FF races will be up son, and I'm probably going to change the Bangaa. EDIT: I just posted all of the races I could find info on from the FF games set in Ivalice; I hope you guys like them! |
| #16vebrandssonFeb 11, 2009 19:28:24 | Just to say, before you get too carried away, that some racial feats would be nice to see. I've noticed you're using alot of things from the other races so altering their racial feats in simular ways should make things relatively easy. |

I've noticed you're using alot of things from the other races so altering their racial feats in simular ways should make things relatively easy. Yeah, that's pretty much what I was planning on. Hopefully, i'll have a few feats for each race in the next couple of days. Any suggestions would be helpful. :D EDIT: Goron feats are up; in general, I'd say they count as dwarves for any feats/paragon paths/Epic destinies... |
