| #1bane13Nov 22, 2008 13:25:44 | Hi everyone! I am planning to do a 4th edition campain based on the Deadlands metoplot. For those who don't know Deadlands (shame on you! :D nah, just kidding), it's an RPG western horror RPG who take place in a far west haunted with supernatural abomination (they call it the weird west). I'm particularly interested by taking the metaplot and some key element of the setting and put it in a more classic D&D setting. Altough the setting will not be strictly western nor horror, there will be some horror elements and surely some inspiration from western setting (the main action will take place in a frontier like setting). My first idea will be to replace indian with a mix of teifling (for the more mystic and civilized part of the indian) and a more grey version of humanoid race (for the more savage part of the indian). The ghost rock would be the residuum and reverent Grimm and is cult would be some kind of crusaders. For those who know Deadlands and his metaplot, don't hesitate to give me your idea and feelings so a could create a more complete and exciting campain. |

An elven (or tiefling, but elf springs to mind) cleric of the Raven Queen performs a ritual to get rid of them, opening a portal to -Evil Plane- by mistake, letting lose a evil called the Reckoners. This evil feeds on fear and creates evil, evil monsters to spread that fear. The Ammere-ecan Civil War drags on because of the machinations of the Reckoners and the country is divided. The "Trackbeast" is invented, trains that run on magical railways, they are all built and driven by warforged. Elves that don't regret the ritual are called Drow, they living the canyon the ritual was performed in. Oh and because of the link to -Evil Plane-, Infernal and Abysal magic becomes strong and yer end up wit' loads o' warlocks. Tieflings ever'where I tells ya. |

I chose the tieflings because they already play with dark forces in the past, so it's easy to justify that they could have bring the reckoning. Also, in a multi-racial setting, they are probably those that inspire the more suspision to the other races but without bringing fight on sight like less civilized humanoid race like orcs. I also try to play the Deadlands metaplot in a mostly standard D&D setting, so using Tieflings change less the overall D&D background. My biggest change to the standard D&D background was to bring a monotheist religion insaead of the standard D&D polytheist panteon. It fit better with the priest class and it give more p-unch to the cult of Lost Angels, one of my main antagonist. Warlock, particularly of the fairy and star pact, could fit as a kind a pagan religion (some kind of shaman). Warlock of the infernal pact are much like the huckster of Deadlands. I trade the civil war for a kind of Napoleonic war between pseudo-european nations, and the west became a kind of crusade setting, Lost Angels being the holy city the crusader want to get there hands on. The idea of human vs dwarf war is really interesting but I want a nation vs nation war so the tension of the war would be still present in the «west» but they would not be bring just «on sight». |
