if STR is not useful to a Wizard, then it is not a characteristic but a feat from the fighter class;
so perhaps the STR score could give the Wizard his base spell damage, that is his offensiveness ???

I have no idea what you're talking about. What?

I think that you're trying to say that STR shouldn't be an ability score because it's not useful to everybody, so you want to make STR useful to the Wizard? But that doesn't really make any sense, because STR already is useful to the Wizard:
Melee Basic Attack attack roll and damage roll, Ranged Basic Attack attack rolls and damage rolls with a Heavy Thrown weapon, Fortitude Defense, Athletics skill checks, carrying capacity, and probably some other stuff that I can't remember.
Do most Wizards care about any of the above? Probably not. Does that mean it's useless? No.

Why?

To increase the number of arbitrary and senseless rules?

I'd really hate to use this argument, but Wizards didn't need strength in any previous edition, and if it ain't broke...

I agree the rules as stated are just fine, str is a ability score becouse it represents how strong you are just becouse wizards normaly arn't strong nor do they normaly care about brute str don't mean it shouldn't still be there to represent how str the wizard is, as for str mattering for damage of spell powers for wizards that again kinda kills the image of the weak book worm which is kinda the image I get with wizards,

Sugestion if you like str mattering with spells then simply use the dragon soul sorc poof issue resolved for you without needing to change anything Wizards are suposed to be smart and use there mind and wits to kill things not there muscles

It's not like wizards never needs strength.  Just ask one that falls off a ship in choppy seas.  Besides, I once had a wizard leap a pit that fighter #1 had fallen into and then push over a cauldron that fighter #2 had failed his check on, and then use time stop to pick up and rescue a prisoner, and then use an action point to put up a wall of flames while the musclebound idiots looked on.  Really, who needs strong fighters when you have wizards. (they never did live that one down)

STR means offensiveness
DEX gives Reflex Saves
CON gives Fortitude Saves and Hit Points
INT means something like # number of tactics/abilities useable on the battlefield
WIS gives Mental Saves and could also reveal Alignment tendancies, with foolish characters having low WIS and peaceful ones bearing high WIS;
CHA is useful for non-combat encounters; non-combat encounters are ways to obtain hints and bribes;

obviously a Magic-User has lots of (spells) abilities to help him on the battlefield whereas a fighter has only a few tactics as mentioned under the Combat section; so high Int is useful to a Mage and useless to a Warrior; still the warrior deals incredible damage while the mage uses tricks at low level (well, this a vision of ol' style Dungeon playing, where spells are more useful in the fields of utility powers).

A good Thief is also good at resolving non-combat encounters so he should have good CHA.

Uglyvan has been doing this for a long time... He's supposedly creating a AD&D 5.0.

But he's only a level 1 monster encounter. Not interested (15 xp)

Are you even trying? You almost seem like you're spouting off stupid stuff for attention. (that's not a question)

Six errors in two sentences, bud. Pot, meet kettle. I hear you're calling him black.

Anyway, you can probably ignore Uglyvan. He's posting things for an edition that doesn't exist, save in his head. It is... insanely complex, rife with errors, and fairly nonsensical to boot. As this thread shows, he's seriously considering having STR be the damage dealing stat for wizards.

Cut the guy a little slack. Being french and posting in english can't be easy. He's certainly doing a lot better than I would if I tried to post in french!

As far as the content of the posts, I can't really judge. It could be inspired design or just crazy talk. Or maybe it's all just lost in translation. Either way these threads are always entertaining.

I'd imagine this makes a lot more sense in his native french, yes. Which makes me wonder why he doesn't post this on a french-speaking website. There's not a single person here who can make sense of what he says, so his threads just clutter up the forum. It's sometimes fun to go on one of these and watch all the posters going "WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN?!" but lately I've just found it annoying.

Oh well, it's not like he's ever going to stop, anyway.
