| #1babysitterApr 23, 2009 22:05:51 | I'm planning an encounter for my PCs to go through. They will be in some normal looking room (I'm not sure exactly where yet), and there will be a small-looking alcove in one of the walls. As they enter the room, they will be surprised to see some monster charge them from the alcove in the wall. The monster won't be too strong, and the party should dispatch it pretty quickly. As soon as it is killed, however, another of the same creature will run from the alcove. The meaning behind this is a spellcaster hidden deeper in the alcove, sending Summon Monster spells out at the group. My question is what spellcaster would be a good choice to put in there, and how strong do you think I should have the monsters/spellcaster for a ~level 15 party? I was leaning toward a sorcerer so that I could have him use up his entire Level X spell slots for the Summon Monster of that level, and after that reveal himself, but I don't know if a different spellcaster would be a better fit for summoning. |

High level summons are relatively weak, but druid can summon few, say, earth elementals (CR 11), one each round (why send them one at the time, summon few, then send them through walls, floor...) and he can be transformed into elemental himself for extra fun ![]() Say, four earth elementals (CR11) + druid 17 - that's could be one interesting encounter Just be aware that summoned creatures perhaps cannot even touch some of the party members due to spell buffs... |
