What's the best pre-made campaign avaliable for a combat focused group of players?

A friend of mine is considering DMing his very first game but is struggling to design a campaign due to time constraints. So I was thinking that a pre-made would be the way to go.

The DM prefers:
Low-Magic
Gritty survivalist style play where everyone is against you, especially the enviroment.

The Players are a mix:
Power gamer (me): I would be happy with anything because I'm always the DM.
Butt-Kicker: She likes to kick butt and chew bubble gum, and she's fresh out of gum.
That guy who always plays a rogue: He loves to kill, steal and burn things to the ground but plays nice with the party.
Role-Player: She's the type who likes to play Bard, and buff NPC's, but may play a more combat oriented class this time.

Any recommendations?

I would highly recommend Dark Sun. It's a very unique and flavorful setting. The downside to that is it would take some work (probably more than your DM is willing from what you say) to make it work for 4th ed. Too many things such as psionics, half-giants, and defiling wizards won't be in 4th ed right away. However if you are planning on playing 3rd ed then check out athas(dot)org, or issues 110 and 111 of Dungeon magazine for DM info, issue 319 of Dragon magazine for player info, and issue 315 of Dragon for the defiler wizard.

Athas.org did great work converting Dark Sun to 3.5e. I far preferred it to the Dragon conversion.

Otherwise, the default Points of Light 'setting' isn't that far off what you want. I gather the new DMG has a lot of good info, a map of the surrounding area, a well fleshed out town (Fallcrest) and links the series of starter adventures all together.

I would higly recomend to play in the dragonlance setting, Krinn is a low magic world, only basic races, knights bad guys, dragons... its easy and if you like it there ale tons of books about it

Any campaign world would work. I would just have the pcs be in the middle of a war that has been going on for a long time. Like a goblin or ork war then just have the pcs attack camps! works and then the game can grow.

I have been using the Scarred Lands setting since it came out back in '03 for the 3.0 game. It's gritty and very tough. Typically experienced gamers like it. The books are inexpensive to procure as they are out-of-print and you can get them in PDF form drivethrurpg dot com.

The magic level is always at the option of the DM so that should not be a major factor. Gods there are tons of fantasy novels out there that offer ideas. Robert E. Howard's world of Conan is an ideal setting as it's more warrior oriented and less magic oriented - at least in the novels. Fritz Lieber's Lankhmar is a golden opportunity to slice and dice wizards and fight a lot of nasty creatures.

Tell your DM that the setting is not as important to flesh out as is the adventures. I used to fret and worry over how a world was going to be coherent and my old DM told me, "Don't worry dude, it's a fantasy world. It's not supposed to always make sense" So I took his advice and began to put more effort into making the adventures click rather than worry who was the Overlord in the next county and how many people lived there.

Hope this helps.
