| #1keldariaJun 15, 2009 14:56:23 | a few days ago me and my group were talking and stumbled apon what I thought might make a unique setting for a campaign. The idea behind it is that the characters exsisted beforehand, they gotten themselfs killed somehow (not of natural causes) leaveing them with unfinished business in the real world and no friends left to bring them back from the dead. They then are sent to the afterlife where they struggle and quest for a way to return to the relm of the living. They arrive in the afterlife with nothing but the cloths on their backs at lvl 1 because since they've left their bodies behind in the real world, their "Soul" now taking the shape of their afterlife bodies isn't as attuned to their abilities nor as coordinated as their bodies were back in the life which goes to explain any level loss. Being the afterlife their souls are in essence immortal, after all you can't kill something thats already dead however they can still be injured and knocked unconcious, players may not be able to die but they can get any posessions they aquire stolen from them (after they get knocked out) or they can be captured and sold for slavery in other areas of the afterlife, or just captured and tortured for fun. Weapons, Clothing, food all exsist in this afterlife altho things like Food and Water are now more or less a luxary and not a nessesity. your soul still needs rest and sleep to refresh your abilities. Demons and Angelic beings are common and frequently appear to gather followers and or squash opposition and ofcourse war amongst themselfs. Religions still exsist here but being as its the afterlife they are less conserned with "saveing" others or recruting followers since the gods have likely already passed judgement on all that come here. they won't reject anyone interested in trying to save themselfs but make no efferts further efferts than that. The gods will has already been done and thats that is their point of view The plane is also vastly uncharted due to the mass anarcy that exsist in much of the relm. a couple of the more powerful organizations may have mapped out the plane however if they have they probibly don't feel the need to share any of that information I think this unique setting leaves a very open feeling to it and does away with some of the annoying things like how much food and water do you have since by second level these things are easily affordable to any adventurer and becomes a pain to keep track of. |

We made a bunch of runaway rock band groupies that wiped out while following their favorite band from concert to concert. When they realized what had happened, they realized that they had wasted their young lives and potential chasing this band around, so they decided that they wouldn't waste their deaths. After initial sorrow followed by giddiness, they embarked on a series of adventures that allowed them to rack up some good karma to reincarnate, which ended the game. |

And there is of course White Wolf's Wraith RPG, which deals solely with the dead and the afterlife (and a grim one to boot). It got never as popular as Vampire- The Masquerade, but there were some books with short stories about the setting.I have never played it, but I kinda liked the books. So if you look for inspirations, these two can maybe give you some ideas. |

The entire game revolves about what happens after death. Death is just the beginning. IMO, Wrath is one of the best RPG's ever invented - definitely the best thing to come out of White Wolf. Top 3 of all time. Easily. |
