The lord of the nine hells doubled over in his chair, his fists shaking with white hot rage. The vision faded - the ritual was not going to be completed after all.

"So this is what he does? After all I do for that pathetic warlock, and he only shows his cowardice at the end?" Asmodeus roared, causing the empty halls of his temple to shudder and crack. "That ritual meant everything to me! Aaargh!"

At that moment, into his gaze came the outline of a well used human male. Flesh clung to century-old bone and muscle, as the figure walked closer, head held high.

"My great lord, Asmodeus. I do think I have a solution to your worries," said the newcomer in a sickeningly sweet voice. "For just a small token, really." The devil lord's head shot up, and he jumped to his feet. Asmodeus opened his mouth to speak to the poor lost soul, before he noticed the warmth of life around the old human.

"Gone are the days when mortals spokemy name in hushed whispers," boomed the towering devil " You're tempting a fate worse than death by laying eyes upon me." The figure below stood steadfast with a courage that bespoke of wisdom beyond his mortal body. Asmodeus began moving his long fingers to craft the magic needed to crush the insect who dare waste his time -- especially now. The human smiled, despite the sweat forming on his brow.

"Down on that lovely world you've been trying to burn, I've built something that you might take interest in." The man geticulated nervously, and waited for some indication to continue. Asmodeus lowered his hand -- at least it might help to relieve some stress. Asmodeus waved his hand towards the man, motioning him to continue. Breathing out a hidden sigh of relaxed nerves, the man went on. " You remember a few hundred years ago, the origin is what we call it. When the Astral sea spilled into the mortal plane, it left behind the arcane magic that we use." The man brushed his wrinkled hand through his gray hair, trying to keep his composure in front of the incarnation of evil.

"Go on," Asmodeus ordered, his patience waning by the second. "I won't hurt you until you at least finish." This seemed to pull the weight off the mans shoulders, and he continued with his facade of confidence.

"Well, you know what happened when that magic built up -- massive worldwide destruction." The man shifts to his other foot, and itbecame apparent to Asmodeus that there was something in his left hand. "I've got here a crystal -- enchanted with magic stolen from Ioun herself. If I get enough magic to power it, I could make make another origin." Asmodeus leaned in, intent now. Perhaps there was more to this man than met the eye. "I've built a cannon, to propell that power. It's large, a mile long at least. But if I were to fire it at somewhere in the mortal world, I might have enough magic to destroy a city or so."

Asmodeus' mouth began to twist into a wicked smile as he relized where the man was getting to. If there was only a portion of the Astral seas magic on the mortal world.... The man began rasping now, unleashing his inner madman to the devil. "I've got the cannon positioned right now to fire into an planar portal. With all the power in the Astral sea, I could do-" the man stopped, and inhaled sharply. "-I could kill a god."

"You really think that I'm going to let you threaten me like that, and walk out of here?" Asmodeus roared with unholy laughter. His cackling pierced through the walls, and made the sulfurous air outside shiver.

"No, actually, I came here to make a deal," the old man quipped. "I've lost something I hold truly dear, and I'd like it back from you." Asmodeus' gaze savagely attacked the man, but he remained silent. "I'd like to give you this weapon, I'll use it as you see fit to do what the warlock could not." The man's image rippled, and began to tear itself apart, the old flesh becoming young. His hair flashed once, and then was new. The helpless illusion of King Falir fell apart, and Soned's evil grin replaced the gentle smile. "I'd like my REAL body back. To keep."

    Asmodeus laughed.
