Tier: Heroic Benefit: Choose an encounter attack power you know of lower level than your highest level encounter attack power and two numbers between one and six, inclusive. That power gains Recharge on those numbers. You may select this feat multiple times. Each time its effects apply to a different encounter attack power you know. Normal: You can only use an encounter attack power once per encounter. Special: 'Recharge [X Y]' allows you to roll 1d6 at the beginning of your turn. If you roll X or Y on the die, you regain the use of that power for the encounter until you expend it again. You may, in theory, recharge a power multiple times in an encounter. No matter how many powers you have with Recharge you only roll one die, and you regain the use of all powers with a recharge number equal to the number rolled. You may choose the same or different numbers for any powers to which this feat applies. ---------- This feat is designed to allow a character to use their favorite Encounter Attack Power (and only an encounter attack power) potentially more than once an encounter. It can't be taken until level 3 (retraining your level 1 feat for it) when you acquire your level 3 encounter power, and even then can only be taken for your level 1 encounter power until level 7. Is it about right? Too strong? Not strong enough? Aesthetically pleasing/unpleasing? My DM is allowing the playtest of this feat in her game, so I will have an opportunity to see it in action during the Heroic tier at least on a Cleric (using it for Divine Glow) and my fellow player, a Wizard (using it for Grasping Shadows). |
| #2Crimson_ConcertoJul 28, 2008 19:21:48 | What happens if you retrain the encounter power or trade it up for a higher level one? Also, I don't think it's a good thing that this is much more complicated, and needlessly so in my opinion, than the Recharge mechanic already set up for monsters. I'd say this is too powerful for Heroic tier. Maybe if you can only recharge on 6, it'll be fine. Maybe have another feat for epic levels where it can recharge on 5 and 6... |
| #3DarkChipmunkJul 28, 2008 19:36:00 | Perhaps a bit complicated, but I sort of liked the idea that the player could have their powers recharge on different numbers if they took the feat more than once. If essentially is the Recharge mechanic from the Monster Manual, only on two numbers of your choice. Perhaps making the Heroic tier only on one number, and allowing a paragon feat to add a second number is a good idea, yes. We will keep that idea in mind for playtesting if two numbers ends up being too powerful for Heroic. A good way to scale it back if it needs it. I believe the general rule for retraining is that if thing X is required for another feat/path/etc to work you can't retrain it before you retrain the thing that depends on it. Perhaps requiring as a prerequisite 'An encounter power, to which this feat will apply', for explicitness. Thank you for the constructive criticism. ![]() |

| #5korgoththepristJul 28, 2008 20:02:44 | Well you do get a Feat at level 2 So you can retrain that feat insteed of level 1 feat. But Recharge 5 OR 6 = BEEFY Make it only roll of a 6, That AND Make it higher Level Requirement Like level 11+ Or Even Epic level. (Level 21+) |
| #6renizarJul 28, 2008 20:02:59 | notice that these are High lvl opponents that get to recharge attacks. Good Idea, but make it somthing like this [Idea from Crimson_Concerto] Attack Focus [General] Through concentrated training you learn to make better use of one of your encounter attack powers. Tier: Heroic Prerequests: Two Class Encounter powers. Benefit: Choose one Encounter power you know. At the beginning of you turn, you may roll a d6. If the result is a 6, you may use that power agian this encounter. Special: If you retrain this feat, you no longer gain the benifits from this feat. You may take this feat multiple times, each time chooseing a new feat. The Normal thing was only in 3.x I think. For instince, Danger sence would have had a Normal, but no longer there. Also, I put two Class Encounter Powers, that means you need two rogue powers, or paladin powers, and Multiclassing does not count. All in all, I think it is a good idea, and it costs you a Feat to do, so not entirely broken. |
| #7DarkChipmunkJul 28, 2008 20:31:05 | 5 or 6 does seem beefy, yes. The DM has declared that we will playtest it on Heroic tier at two numbers. In the event that it seems overpowered, we will scale it back to one number. In the event it is still overpowered in Heroic tier, we will bump it up to Paragon tier. The current working draft of the feat can be found here: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Attack_Focus_%284e_Feat%29 This will be updated as we make changes. Thus far, two members of the party have chosen to take this feat: the wizard and cleric. The wizard has taken it for Grasping Shadows and the cleric for Divine Glow. We are level 6. I do foresee this feat being deemed 'too powerful' at the two-number level and being scaled back. Whether or not 'Improved Attack Focus' in Paragon/Epic tier will exist is still up in the air, in the event of the scaleback. It may become the case that two-numbers is overpowered at all levels, but that one-number is the sweet spot. Also, note that a power must have a level to be chosen (otherwise the power is not 'of a level less than your highest level encounter attack power). Racial encounter attack powers do not qualify, as written. Does this seem fair? It will be fun to playtest, regardless. ![]() |
