Hi

I am a rather seasoned dungeon master, but recently I've grown tired of the high fantasy setting Dungeons & Dragons generally delivers. My current campaign is a very open campaign, that allows all sources available. It is being run in Planescape, so everything can happen more or less.

However I am really turned on making a very low-magic old medieval themed campaign. My questions to fellow GM's is: Which sources should I explude and what is the easiest way to explude magic-using classes?

Thanks

Well, here are some thoughts.

  • Limit your PC power sorces.  Martial is an easy in, maybe Primal or Divine, depending on how you want to do things.

  • You could also restrict classes on a case by case basis.  For example, if you want only natural born arcanists only allow Sorcerers, but no Wizards, Bards, or Swordmages.

  • Use the inherent bonuses (DMG2?) to limit the number of magic items you hand out.

  • Check the various Monster Manuals for opponents that could reasnoably exist (most natural humanoids and beasts, for example).
