| #1ostrakonJan 23, 2009 19:19:59 | Yes, I'm aware that we have a sickle. It's too... sickly for my tastes. I have a cleric of the Raven Queen, and I want something a little more substantive. Something with a little more oomph. I'm envisioning something with a steel shaft about as long as a longsword, but with a weakly curved (or maybe even straight?) scythe blade at the end. My first thought was to simply reflavor Bastard Sword, but I think something more unique would be better. My DM is likely to accept something a little overpowered, but I want to keep it as balanced as possible anyway. All of these versions are superior weapons. Warscythe - Prof +3, Heavy Blade, 2d4, High Crit: basically a one-handed Falchion. Prof +2, Heavy Blade, Axe, 2d4, Brutal 1 Any advice or ideas would be highly appreciated. |

| #3redclock_the_untimelyJan 24, 2009 3:40:23 | If keeping it balanced I would rule it as: Warscythe - military one handed cost - 20gp +2 prof. weight - 6lbs damage - 1d8 versatile High Crit I took it from a 2d4 to a 1d8 because it loses some weight and some of the force behind it. The high crit was added in because in 3.5 the scythe was a x4 crit weapon and it fit better than brutal. edit: Oops, I just made a warpick. ![]() |

| #5vebrandssonJan 24, 2009 10:42:49 | Why not just reflavor a sickle to look like a kama? |
| #6vebrandssonJan 24, 2009 11:01:21 | Or of course the really obvious question, why not forgo a shield and just use a 2 handed scythe. Now I realize making a 1 handed 2d4 high crit weapon gives you an absurd mechanical advantage but seriously the scythe was overpowered in 3.x, its balanced now, deal with it. |

Two words: Cleric Reflex. 1 handed 2d4 high crit in exchange for a feat is an absurd mechanical advantage? Hell, a battleaxe becomes 1d10 high crit in paragon for one feat and it's only martial. kama THANK YOU! I knew there was already a name for it. Why not just reflavor a sickle to look like a kama? Weren't kama exotic weapons in 3.X? Sickles are simple weapons. Besides, I'm going for a whole "Champion of the Raven Queen" angle with this character, and I don't think one of her most powerful warriors would use something as mundane as a sickle. |
| #8vebrandssonJan 24, 2009 15:14:29 | Well first powerful warrior and Cleric don't exactly go together, thats more the paladin's thing. And if you want to talk mechanical advantage you want a weapon that is the same as a falcion (which would also cost you one feat) but one handed, making the falcion obselete for starters, how is that not advantage? Also if you look at the one handed damage progression table you'll see that 2d4 isn't on there anywhere so as someone else stated it'd need to be reduced to 1d8 to fit with other one handed weapons. Also how mundane the weapon is is quite a mute point. First off the true champions of the raven queen, the sorrowsworn use scythes, which are equally as mundane as a sickle. Secondly the champions of Moradin use a hammer which is even more mundane. So either suck it up and give up the game advantage of having a shield for the rps sake or use a bloody sickle, if I were your DM thats what I'd tell you. |

Doesn't obsolete the falchion since it requires a feat. The one-handed damage progression thing is a valid point though. As for the cleric/paladin thing, you're absolutely right. Thing is, he's evolved from a cleric into more of a cleric/warlord kind of thing. The sorrowsworn thing is a valid point, though. Maybe I should forgo the shield altogether and suck the Reflex hit up. I dunno why you're being so antagonistic, though. It kind of sucks being a WIS primary, STR secondary character with no built-in martial proficiency. If I'm going to be spending a feat on a weapon what's wrong with trying to get the biggest bang for my buck? |
