| #1argentosNov 22, 2008 15:11:48 | I've been working alongside the fellow DMs who are going to be PCs in my new campaign on a couple of powers I've created, and one of them suggested I gather opinions here as well. Through three revisions, this is what I've come up with; before I show the powers, here's the idea. I'm running a dueling parties campaign (aptly named Parallel Parties), so there will be an NPC party that levels up alongside the PC party. We're starting at level 4. There will be an event early on that turns the NPC party to the dark side. I plan on having them as boss-like encounters every couple of levels; the PCs outnumber the NPCs by one. The NPC Paladin and Fighter are twin dragonborn, both built to be sturdy defenders. Other party members include the half-elf Cleric, human two-blade ranger, and human wizard. (Yes, I know there are better race choices than human; this was an aesthetic choice for the campaign setting.) The first power is called Twin Tactics. This power replaces both the Fighter's and Paladin's respective lv2 Utility spells. The second power is called Sibling Strike. This power replaces both the Fighter's and Paladin's lv1 Encounter spells. Twin Tactics Encounter (Special) * Immediate Interrupt You may only use this power if you are adjacent to your twin. Trigger: An enemy attacks your twin. Target: Your twin. Effect: Target gains a +2 bonus to AC and Reflex until the end of the enemy's turn (including action points). This may be used after damage has been declared. Sibling Strike Encounter (Special) You may only use this power if you are adjacent to your twin. Standard Action, Melee Strength v. Reflex Hit: 1[W] + Strength modifier damage, and your sibling follows your lead with a basic attack against the same target. Your sibling gains a +2 bonus to its attack roll. No other abilities may be used in place of the basic attack, including those which state they may do so. Miss: Your twin laughs at you. I know my phrasing on these isn't perfect, but I'm just looking for input on the abilities themselves. Are they broken? Imbalanced? Or is it good since I have them replacing abilities the characters would have had otherwise? I'll take any opinions on further tweaks as well. Our first gaming session will be next Friday, though I don't intend on having a party v party encounter yet unless their wizard decides to do something rash. edit: I'm not altering the original text yet, but I had some afterthoughts. The Twin Tactics could be a touch imbalanced if used to deflect Daily attacks. Would it be reasonable for me to add a clause stating that the power can NOT be used in response to a Daily attack power? Also, should the interrupt come after the attack but before the damage? (This makes more sense to me.) Sibling Strike. The +2 bonus to attack was intentional, under the idea that your twin has already hit, so you're more likely to do the same. Since this is restricted to a basic attack, I felt it was still fair. An alternative I am pondering is +2 to damage, but it takes away from the original intent. |
