All of my money is lost on holiday shopping and I have little artistic talent. What would be the best free way of getting my world-map artistically rendered online? Preferably it'd be by my own hand.

Use map making software, such as Map Tool. It's free, and has a vast database of graphics that allow you to easily make very detailed maps. It takes some getting used to of course, but it's not overly complicated.
