So this came up on the leader forum a while back, and resulted in some mixed opinions. I was curious what people here might think, or if they've done anything resembling.

Being a leader class whose builds are based on leadership styles and not weapon or combat styles, I kind of dislike the idea that warlords are restricted from ranged combat. An archer warlord would be a cool flavor that has some real world parallels.

A lot of people argue that it wouldn't work with the class' mechanics, but having reviewed all of their powers carefully, I disagree.

My idea was as follows. A good number of warlord powers in both the player's handbook and martial power have flavor text and mechanics that would work fine with a ranged weapon. I designate some of those as "melee or ranged" with the usual requirement of a heavy thrown weapon. I don't necessarily think that makes the powers more powerful, because using them at range would be a damage reduction due to the fact that heavy thrown weapons are generally not going to hit as hard as the warlord's melee weapon would.

Then, I'd add a feat that would either let you use any ranged warlord power with a bow, using your dex instead of your strength modifier, or just let you treat bows as heavy thrown weapons (similar to the rogue feats where you can treat one handed axes as light blades). I think the feat would be balanced because it would increase your range and potential damage with ranged attacks at the expense of the feat, but in the first case would also require you have a good dexterity to be useful.

Any thoughts or ideas?

edit: i have no idea how that "ke" ended up in "homebrew"
